A Well-Known Person in Your Country Who Is Very Popular

Gần nhất ra thi tháng 5–8/2026

Đề bài (cue card)

Describe a well-known person in your country who is very popular

You should say:

  • who this person is
  • what you know about this person
  • why he/she is so popular
  • and explain how you feel about this person being so popular

Band 6.5

The answer uses simple, blunt self-assessment ('What I know about him is fairly basic') and plain connectors, giving accurate but linguistically modest content typical of Band 6.5.Câu trả lời dùng cách tự đánh giá đơn giản, thẳng thắn ('Những gì tôi biết về anh ấy khá cơ bản') cùng các từ nối thông thường, cho nội dung chính xác nhưng còn khiêm tốn về ngôn ngữ, đặc trưng của Band 6.5.

The person I want to talk about is Sơn Tùng M-TP, a singer who has been extremely popular in Vietnam for around ten years.

What I know about him is fairly basic. He started as quite a young singer, writes a lot of his own songs, and mixes Vietnamese music with pop and hip-hop styles. He has his own record label now and also acts in music videos that look almost like short films. My friend Khánh, who is much younger than me, knows every single one of his songs by heart.

Why he's so popular, I think, is because his songs are catchy and modern, and young people feel he represents something new for Vietnamese music, not just copying foreign styles. He's also very active online, so fans always know what he's doing, and each new song or video becomes a big event that everyone talks about for days.

How I feel about his popularity is a bit neutral, if I'm honest. I'm not really a fan myself, and some of his songs aren't really my style, but I respect that he changed how Vietnamese pop music sounds. Khánh often plays his songs at the office, and I don't mind at all — I think it's good that young people have someone local to be excited about, instead of only foreign singers.

  • FCWhat I know about him is fairly basic. This opening functions as a topic sentence that directly answers the cue-card prompt ("what you know about him") before any detail follows, exactly the plain, front-loaded structure Band 6.5 fluency rewards — say the point first, explain after. A higher-band answer would likely fold this admission into a longer sentence with a qualifying clause ("though what I know is fairly basic, since..."), but here it stands alone as a short, self-contained statement. The word "fairly" is doing the only hedging work in the sentence, typical of the limited hedging range expected at this level.Câu mở đầu này đóng vai trò như một câu chủ đề trả lời trực tiếp gợi ý của cue card ("what you know about him") trước khi bất kỳ chi tiết nào theo sau, chính xác là cấu trúc đơn giản, đưa ý chính lên trước mà Fluency Band 6.5 đánh giá cao — nói điểm chính trước, giải thích sau.
  • LRHe has his own record label now and also acts in music videos that look almost like short films.Every content word here — "record label," "acts," "music videos," "short films" — is high-frequency and topic-general rather than specialised industry vocabulary ("imprint," "cinematic," "vignettes"), consistent with the "everyday, high-frequency words" ceiling set for Band 6.5. The comparison "almost like short films" is the one mildly more descriptive touch in the sentence, but it stays a simple simile rather than a precise collocation a 7.0 answer might reach for. The two facts are simply added with "and also," reinforcing that the sentence is built for clarity, not lexical range.Mọi từ nội dung ở đây — "record label," "acts," "music videos," "short films" — đều là từ tần suất cao, mang tính chung chung theo chủ đề chứ không phải từ vựng chuyên ngành đặc biệt ("imprint," "cinematic," "vignettes"), phù hợp với trần "từ ngữ thông dụng, tần suất cao" được đặt ra cho Band 6.5.
  • GRAI'm not really a fan myself, and some of his songs aren't really my style, but I respect that he changed how Vietnamese pop music sounds.Three independent clauses are strung together with the coordinators "and" and "but" rather than subordinated into a single complex sentence (for example, with "although" or a relative clause), the coordination-heavy pattern the descriptor flags as typical of Band 6.5 grammar. The structure is accurate and the contrast between personal taste and professional respect comes through clearly, but a Band 7.0 answer would likely compress this into something like "although I'm not really a fan, I respect..." to show subordination instead of addition. It's a good example of a speaker managing complex content (mixed feelings) with simple grammatical tools.
Band 7.0

The answer develops its opinion with a clear reason and a specific remembered scene (watching a free kick 'with a group of neighbours on a shared TV outside a shop'), and links ideas with natural spoken framing ('Why he's so popular, I think, comes down to...'), matching Band 7.0's comfortable mix of description and reasoning.Câu trả lời phát triển quan điểm bằng một lý do rõ ràng và một cảnh cụ thể được nhớ lại (xem cú đá phạt 'cùng mấy người hàng xóm trên chiếc TV chung đặt trước một cửa hàng'), đồng thời liên kết ý bằng cách diễn đạt tự nhiên trong văn nói ('Tôi nghĩ lý do anh nổi tiếng đến vậy phần lớn nằm ở...'), phù hợp với sự pha trộn thoải mái giữa miêu tả và lập luận của Band 7.0.

The person I'd talk about is Nguyen Quang Hai, a footballer who's been one of the most well-known sportsmen in Vietnam for the last few years.

What I know about him is mostly from watching matches with friends rather than reading much about his life. He plays as a midfielder, he's known for scoring some memorable free kicks for the national team, and he's played for clubs both in Vietnam and briefly abroad in France. He's still fairly young, but he's already seen as one of the players who helped the national team do better than it had for a long time.

Why he's so popular, I think, comes down to timing as much as skill. He was part of the team that reached the final of an Asian tournament a few years back, and that whole run gave people something to get excited about together, which doesn't happen that often here. On top of that, he seems fairly down to earth in interviews, which people appreciate, rather than acting like a celebrity.

How I feel about his popularity is mostly positive, if I'm honest. I'm not someone who follows football closely, but I remember watching one of his free kicks with a group of neighbours on a shared TV outside a shop, and everyone on the street cheering together. It's rare that one person can bring a whole street, or really a whole country, together like that for an evening. I do think some fans expect too much from him now, comparing every match to that one tournament, which doesn't seem fair. But overall, I think it's a good thing when a country has someone people can rally around without it being about politics or money.

  • FCWhy he's so popular, I think, comes down to timing as much as skill."Comes down to timing as much as skill" is a natural spoken framing device that introduces a reasoned, balanced claim, crediting two causes rather than one, instead of just asserting "he's popular because he's good". That kind of evaluative claim, delivered in natural collocation, is what gives Band 7.0 fluency its unforced, reasoned quality rather than sounding like a list of facts."Comes down to timing as much as skill" là một thiết bị đóng khung nói tự nhiên, giới thiệu một tuyên bố có lý lẽ, cân bằng — ghi nhận hai nguyên nhân thay vì một — thay vì chỉ khẳng định "he's popular because he's good".
  • LRdown to earth"Down to earth" is a fixed idiomatic collocation describing personality, common enough to be natural rather than showy, but still more specific and evocative than a plain alternative like "friendly" or "normal".
  • GRAI remember watching one of his free kicks with a group of neighbours on a shared TV outside a shop, and everyone on the street cheering together. The main clause is extended by a participial clause attached with "and" — "everyone on the street cheering together" — functioning almost like an absolute construction describing a simultaneous scene rather than a separate event. Combining a full clause with this kind of participial addition, and keeping the whole thing accurate, is the comfortable complex grammar Band 7.0 is built around, distinct from the simpler coordinated sentences a 6.5 answer would use for the same content.Mệnh đề chính được mở rộng bằng một mệnh đề phân từ gắn vào bằng "and" — "everyone on the street cheering together" — gần như đóng vai trò một cấu trúc độc lập (absolute construction) mô tả một cảnh diễn ra đồng thời chứ không phải một sự kiện tách biệt.
Band 7.5

The unexpected, reflective opening to the final paragraph ('mostly relief, which sounds strange') and the precise, slightly dry observation about an industry that 'produces scandals weekly' show the evaluative sophistication and lexical precision of Band 7.5.Cách mở đầu bất ngờ, mang tính suy ngẫm ở đoạn cuối ('phần lớn là nhẹ nhõm, nghe có vẻ lạ') cùng nhận xét chính xác, hơi khô khan về một ngành công nghiệp 'mỗi tuần lại sinh ra scandal mới', cho thấy sự tinh tế trong đánh giá và độ chính xác từ vựng của Band 7.5.

The person I'd talk about is Mỹ Tâm, a singer who's been one of the most popular performers in Vietnam for about twenty-five years, and who happens to come from Da Nang.

What I know about her is what most people know. She started very young, won a national singing competition in her twenties, and has released ballads and pop songs that have been the soundtrack of two generations — my mother knows her early songs and my niece knows the recent ones. She writes some of her own music, she's acted in films, and she's famous for a concert habit of going into the crowd and singing with people. She's also known for charity work she does quietly: scholarships, help for families after floods in the central provinces, things that come out afterwards rather than before.

Why she's so popular, I think, is a combination of longevity and manners. She's been good for a very long time without a scandal, in an industry that produces scandals weekly. She's warm on stage and plain-spoken off it, and she seems to genuinely like her audience, which people can tell. For Da Nang there's the extra pride of ownership: when she gave a free concert on the beach here a few years ago, my entire alley stood in the sand together, and my landlady, who is sixty, sang every word.

How I feel about her being so popular is mostly relief, which sounds strange. Popularity in Vietnam often goes to people who are loud, new and briefly everywhere, and it's cheering that the most loved singer in the country is someone whose main qualities are consistency and kindness. I'm not a passionate fan, but I'd rather my niece admired her than most of the alternatives. And I like that a city famous for bridges and beaches has one famous person who is simply a good singer who never left in spirit.

  • FCHow I feel about her being so popular is mostly relief, which sounds strange.Naming the feeling as "relief" rather than pride or admiration is an unexpected choice for describing how the speaker feels about someone's popularity, and the added aside "which sounds strange" shows the speaker is aware of, and examining, that oddness rather than just reporting it. That kind of genuinely unpredictable, self-scrutinising evaluation, going past straightforward positive description, is the reflective depth Band 7.5 fluency is calibrated to reward, well beyond a 7.0 answer that would more likely just state straightforward admiration.
  • LRan industry that produces scandals weekly"An industry that produces scandals weekly" treats scandal almost like a manufactured product on a schedule, a dry, ironic collocation that does a lot of critical work in very few words. That kind of precise, faintly witty phrasing, deployed with total ease rather than flagged as a clever turn of phrase, is exactly the idiomatic sophistication Band 7.5 Lexical Resource looks for.'An industry that produces scandals weekly' (một ngành công nghiệp sản xuất scandal hàng tuần) coi scandal gần như một sản phẩm được chế tạo theo lịch trình, một cách kết hợp từ khô khan, châm biếm nhưng làm được rất nhiều việc phê phán chỉ trong vài từ. Kiểu diễn đạt chính xác, hơi dí dỏm này, được sử dụng hoàn toàn tự nhiên chứ không phô trương như một cách chơi chữ cố ý, chính xác là sự tinh tế mang tính thành ngữ mà tiêu chí Vốn từ vựng ở Band 7.5 tìm kiếm.
  • GRAShe's been good for a very long time without a scandal, in an industry that produces scandals weekly. The sentence builds its contrast structurally, a positive main clause ("been good for a very long time without a scandal") set directly against a prepositional phrase describing the industry's norm, rather than relying on an explicit "but" or "although" to signal the antithesis. That kind of controlled, economical contrast, letting the juxtaposition itself do the work, is a more sophisticated grammatical choice than the plainer coordinated "but" sentences typical of lower bands, and it fits Band 7.5's expectation of varied, mostly error-free complex structures.Câu này xây dựng sự tương phản về mặt cấu trúc, một mệnh đề chính mang nghĩa tích cực ('been good for a very long time without a scandal' - đã yên ổn rất lâu không có scandal) được đặt trực tiếp đối lập với một cụm giới từ mô tả chuẩn mực của ngành, thay vì dựa vào từ 'but' hay 'although' tường minh để báo hiệu sự đối lập.

    Band 6.5

Keeps each claim in a short plain sentence and signals the turn with a bare 'But', which is clear but doesn't vary its connectors much.

I think yes, whether they like it or not. For example, my niece copied a singer's polite manners and a footballer's angry tantrum in the same week, without even thinking about it. Popular people are watched by young people who are still learning how to behave, so this creates a responsibility. But I don't think they need to be perfect in private, only decent in public. The best famous people accept this role calmly and admit their mistakes honestly. Saying 'I'm just a singer' ignores the real effect they have on others.

    • FCFor example, my niece copied a singer's polite mannersThe example opens with the stock connector 'For example'. The 7.5 answer drops this signpost entirely and states the fact directly, which reads as more integrated into the argument rather than tacked on.Ví dụ mở đầu bằng từ nối khuôn mẫu 'For example'.
    • LRa singer's polite manners and a footballer's angry tantrum'Polite' and 'angry' are plain, general adjectives. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers upgrade this to the more specific 'gracious stage manners', which names a particular kind of behaviour rather than just describing it as good or bad.'Polite' và 'angry' là những tính từ đơn giản, chung chung. Câu trả lời ở band 7.0 và 7.5 nâng cấp thành cụm cụ thể hơn 'gracious stage manners', gọi tên một kiểu hành vi cụ thể thay vì chỉ mô tả nó tốt hay xấu.
    • GRABut I don't think they need to be perfect in private, only decent in public.A short contrastive sentence with 'But'. The 7.5 answer expresses a similar contrast inside one longer sentence introduced by a colon ('I'd draw a line, though:'), packing more reasoning into a single grammatical unit.Một câu đối lập ngắn với 'But'.
    Band 7.0

Honestly, I'd say yes, whether they want the role or not. My niece, for instance, copied a singer's gracious stage manners and a footballer's tantrum in the very same week, and neither of them had actually asked to be copied. To be fair, I think there's a limit — famous people owe the public decent behaviour in public, not perfection in private, and demanding otherwise usually just makes them fake or miserable. The best ones, I'd say, accept the role lightly, behave well where it's seen, and are honest when they slip up. Claiming 'I'm just a singer' is right about the job and wrong about the effect.

    • FCTo be fair, I think there's a limitThe hedge 'To be fair' signals a qualification to the main argument, a move the 6.5 answer's flat 'But I don't think...' doesn't quite manage with the same nuance. The 7.5 answer achieves a similar pivot even more compactly with 'I'd draw a line, though:'.Rào đón 'To be fair' báo hiệu một sự giới hạn cho lập luận chính, một bước mà câu 'But I don't think...' trần trụi ở band 6.5 không đạt được cùng mức độ tinh tế. Câu trả lời ở band 6.5 nêu cùng sự thật một cách phẳng lặng hơn bằng 'without even thinking about it', bỏ lỡ nét châm biếm nhỏ này.
    • GRAMy niece, for instance, copied a singer's gracious stage manners and a footballer's tantrum in the very same week, and neither of them had actually asked to be copied. This sentence coordinates two clauses with 'and' after already packing in an appositive ('for instance'), giving it more internal structure than the 6.5 answer's shorter, simpler version of the same anecdote.Câu này phối hợp hai mệnh đề bằng 'and' sau khi đã lồng vào một cụm đồng vị ('for instance'), mang lại cấu trúc nội tại phong phú hơn phiên bản ngắn hơn, đơn giản hơn của cùng giai thoại ở band 6.5.

Whether they want it or not, I'd say yes — my niece copied a singer's gracious stage manners and a footballer's tantrum in the very same week, and neither of them had asked to be copied. Popularity means being watched by people who are still deciding who to be, and that creates a responsibility that fame doesn't simply cancel out. I'd draw a line, though: famous people owe the public decent behaviour in public, not sainthood in private, and demanding perfection just makes them fake or miserable. The best ones accept the role lightly, behave well where it's seen, and stay honest about their mistakes. Those who insist 'I'm just a singer' are right about their job and wrong about their effect.

Contrasts each idea in its own 'while' or 'but' sentence, repeating a very similar pattern across the whole answer.Đối lập mỗi ý trong câu 'while' hay 'but' riêng, lặp lại một khuôn mẫu rất giống nhau xuyên suốt câu trả lời.

I think influence and power are quite different things. For example, a singer can fill a beach with thousands of fans but can't change a single bus route, while a district official can change the route but couldn't fill a small room. Influence is about changing what people want, while power is about changing what actually happens. Influence comes from attention and admiration, and it disappears when people stop caring. Power comes from law and money, and it stays even if nobody admires it. The people who have both are rare and worth watching closely.

    • FCFor example, a singer can fill a beach with thousands of fansThe plain connector 'For example' introduces the contrast. The 7.5 answer removes it and states both halves of the comparison as one flowing sentence, which reads as more naturally connected.Từ nối đơn giản 'For example' giới thiệu sự đối lập. Câu trả lời ở band 7.5 bỏ nó đi và nêu cả hai vế của sự so sánh thành một câu trôi chảy, đọc lên tự nhiên, liên kết hơn.
    • LRInfluence is about changing what people want, while power is about changing what actually happens.'Is about' is a serviceable but generic way to define something. The 7.5 answer sharpens this into 'is the ability to change what people want', a more precise, formal definition-style phrase.'Is about' là một cách định nghĩa dùng được nhưng chung chung. Câu trả lời ở band 7.5 làm sắc bén hơn thành 'is the ability to change what people want', một cụm từ mang phong cách định nghĩa chính xác, trang trọng hơn.
    • GRAInfluence comes from attention and admiration, and it disappears when people stop caring.A simple compound sentence with 'and'. The 7.5 answer fuses a parallel idea about power into the same sentence with 'while', producing one balanced comparison instead of two separate statements.Một câu ghép đơn giản với 'and'. Câu trả lời ở band 7.5 hợp nhất một ý song song về quyền lực vào cùng câu bằng 'while', tạo ra một sự so sánh cân bằng thay vì hai câu khẳng định tách biệt.

Honestly, I think the two work quite differently. A singer can fill a beach with fifty thousand people and still can't change a single bus route, whereas the district official who actually can change that route couldn't fill a room. To be fair, influence is really the ability to change what people want, while power is the ability to change what happens — influence works through attention and evaporates when it fades, but power works through law, money and institutions and stays regardless. The two do meet sometimes, like when a celebrity's campaign pushes a real policy. I'd say influence is broader and shallower, while power is narrower and much harder to get.

Influence, I'd say, is the ability to change what people want; power is the ability to change what actually happens. Influence works through attention and admiration and evaporates the moment they do, while power works through law, money and institutions and stays whether anyone admires it or not. The two meet when influence gets aimed at power — a celebrity's campaign that pushes a policy — and when power buys influence, which governments try constantly. Influence is broader and shallower; power is narrower and harder to come by. The people with both are rare, and worth watching carefully.

I think they can point attention at things that need it. For example, after the floods a few years ago, a famous singer's appeal raised in one day what the provincial appeal had raised in a whole month, even though the money itself came from the same public. Celebrities can make a cause visible and reach people who usually ignore officials or the news. Of course, they also sell products, which is the most common but least interesting use. I think it works best when it matches who they are, like a kind singer raising money for flood victims.

The 7.5 answer makes the identical point with a more casual 'obviously', tucked mid-sentence rather than announced at the start.'Of course' đánh dấu một điểm phản biện hiển nhiên một cách trần trụi.
    • LRpoint attention at things that need itThis is a workable but fairly generic verb phrase. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use the identical structure too, showing that even at 6.5 the core phrase can be reused — the real gap shows up elsewhere, in the flatter 'a famous singer's appeal' versus the named, specific 'Mỹ Tâm's appeal' at the higher bands.Đây là một cụm động từ dùng được nhưng khá chung chung.
    • GRAI think it works best when it matches who they are, like a kind singer raising money for flood victims.A single 'when' clause with one trailing example. Câu trả lời ở band 7.5 xây dựng một sự đối lập song song đầy đủ hơn trong một câu — 'a singer known for kindness... is believed, while the same singer lecturing on economics simply isn't' — với hai nửa cân bằng thay vì một.

Honestly, I think it's mainly by pointing attention at something that needs it. After the floods a few years ago, for instance, Mỹ Tâm's appeal raised in a single day what the provincial appeal had raised in a whole month — the money came from the same public, but the trust and reach were completely different. To be fair, celebrities can also make a cause visible, model good behaviour like vaccination or recycling, and reach people who ignore officials and newspapers entirely. Selling products is obviously the most common use, though it's honestly the least interesting one. I'd say the influence works best when it fits who the celebrity actually is.

States the reunion story and each rule plainly, using 'while' and 'but' just once each to keep the structure simple and easy to track.Nêu câu chuyện họp lớp và từng quy luật một cách đơn giản, chỉ dùng 'while' và 'but' mỗi từ một lần để giữ cấu trúc đơn giản, dễ theo dõi.

Not always, and my class reunion proved it. At our ten-year gathering, the quiet boy who used to sit at the back was the person everyone wanted to talk to, while two of the old school stars sat together looking a bit left out. I think school popularity rewards things that stop mattering later, like sport, looks or being funny at fifteen. Adult popularity instead rewards warmth, reliability and genuine interest in other people. Some skills do carry over, since a confident child often becomes a confident adult, but the whole ranking mostly resets once school ends.

    • FCNot always, and my class reunion proved it.This short opening sentence states the answer and points to the evidence in one plain move. The 7.5 answer opens even more compactly with just 'Not reliably, and the reunion proved it', trimming a word without losing the meaning.Câu mở đầu ngắn này nêu câu trả lời và chỉ ra bằng chứng trong một bước đơn giản. Câu trả lời ở band 7.5 mở đầu còn cô đọng hơn, chỉ với 'Not reliably, and the reunion proved it', cắt bớt một từ mà không mất đi ý nghĩa.
    • LRlooking a bit left outThis is a plain, general description. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use the more specific and evocative 'looking slightly stranded', which paints a sharper picture of the two former stars' discomfort.Đây là một mô tả đơn giản, chung chung.
    • GRASome skills do carry over, since a confident child often becomes a confident adult, but the whole ranking mostly resets once school ends.A 'since... but' sentence chains a reason and a contrast together. The 7.5 answer achieves something similar but ends on a further clause about who stays liked, extending the sentence chain one step further.Một câu 'since... but' xâu chuỗi một lý do và một sự đối lập lại với nhau.
    Band 7.0

Lists the outdated school-popularity qualities between dashes ('sport, looks, boldness, being funny at fifteen') rather than after 'like', giving the sentence a more spoken rhythm.Liệt kê các phẩm chất nổi tiếng ở trường học đã lỗi thời giữa các dấu gạch ngang ('sport, looks, boldness, being funny at fifteen') thay vì sau 'like', mang lại cho câu nhịp điệu nói hơn.

Honestly, not reliably, and the reunion really proved it. At my class's ten-year gathering, the quiet boy who'd sat at the back the whole time was the person everyone wanted to talk to, and two of the stars of our schooldays sat together looking slightly stranded. To be fair, school popularity rewards things that stop mattering — sport, looks, boldness, being funny at fifteen — while adult popularity rewards warmth, reliability and genuine interest in other people. Some skills do transfer, since a socially confident child usually becomes a confident adult. But the hierarchy resets once the classroom disappears, and the children who were liked for kindness tend to stay liked.

    • FCTo be fair, school popularity rewards things that stop mattering'To be fair' introduces the rule as a considered claim rather than a flat statement, a cohesive move the 6.5 answer's plain 'I think school popularity rewards...' doesn't use.'To be fair' giới thiệu quy luật này như một luận điểm chín chắn thay vì một câu khẳng định trần trụi, một bước liên kết mà câu 'I think school popularity rewards...' đơn giản ở band 6.5 không dùng.
    • LRlooking slightly stranded'Stranded' is a vivid, figurative word for feeling out of place among people who no longer share your context. The 6.5 answer only manages the flatter 'looking a bit left out'.'Stranded' là một từ sống động, mang tính hình tượng để chỉ cảm giác lạc lõng giữa những người không còn chung ngữ cảnh với mình. Câu trả lời ở band 6.5 chỉ đạt được cụm phẳng lặng hơn 'looking a bit left out'.
    • GRAschool popularity rewards things that stop mattering — sport, looks, boldness, being funny at fifteen — while adult popularity rewards warmth, reliability and genuine interest in other people. Two dashes set off a four-item list in the middle of a 'while' contrast sentence, a more elaborate structure than the 6.5 answer's shorter 'like sport, looks or being funny' phrasing.Hai dấu gạch ngang đặt một danh sách bốn mục giữa một câu đối lập 'while', một cấu trúc tinh vi hơn cách diễn đạt ngắn hơn 'like sport, looks or being funny' ở band 6.5.
    Band 7.5

Closes with a semicolon-balanced pair of fates for the two kinds of popular children, ending on the fresh image of a 'different scoreboard' rather than simply restating the point.Kết thúc bằng một cặp số phận cân bằng nối dấu chấm phẩy cho hai kiểu trẻ em nổi tiếng, kết thúc bằng hình ảnh mới mẻ 'bảng điểm khác' thay vì chỉ nhắc lại luận điểm.

    • GRAThe children who were liked for kindness stay liked; the ones liked for status have to earn it all over again in a world with a different scoreboard. The semicolon balances two mirrored clauses about two different kinds of children, a tighter parallel structure than the 6.5 answer's single sentence about 'confident children' with no matching second half.Dấu chấm phẩy cân bằng hai mệnh đề đối xứng về hai kiểu trẻ em khác nhau, một cấu trúc song song chặt chẽ hơn câu đơn về 'những đứa trẻ tự tin' không có nửa sau tương ứng ở band 6.5.
  9. 9. How important is it to be popular with colleagues at work?

Frames the opening claim with a plain 'but' contrast and closes with another 'and' sentence, keeping the same simple connector pattern through the whole answer.Định hình luận điểm mở đầu bằng sự đối lập 'but' đơn giản và kết thúc bằng một câu 'and' khác, giữ cùng khuôn mẫu từ nối đơn giản xuyên suốt câu trả lời.

I think it matters more than ambitious people admit, but less than anxious people fear. There's a designer everyone likes, and when her project hits trouble at midnight, three people show up to help without even being asked. There's also a more brilliant colleague nobody wants to sit beside, and he solves everything alone, slowly. Being liked at work brings help, information and forgiveness for small mistakes. But it doesn't mean being everyone's friend or never disagreeing. I think respect matters more than popularity, and a fair, competent colleague will be liked enough.

    • FCI think it matters more than ambitious people admit, but less than anxious people fear. This opening balances two groups with a plain 'but'. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers drop 'I think' and state the same balance more directly as 'More than ambitious people admit, and less than anxious people fear', which reads as more confidently spoken. Câu trả lời ở band 7.0 và 7.5 bỏ 'I think' và nêu cùng sự cân bằng đó trực tiếp hơn thành 'More than ambitious people admit, and less than anxious people fear', đọc lên nghe tự tin hơn, giống lời nói hơn.
    • LRthree people show up to help without even being asked'Show up' is a reasonably natural phrasal verb, but the phrasing overall is fairly plain. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use 'appear without being asked', a slightly more economical and polished way to say the same thing.'Show up' là một cụm động từ khá tự nhiên, nhưng cách diễn đạt nhìn chung khá đơn giản. Câu trả lời ở band 7.0 và 7.5 dùng 'appear without being asked', một cách nói tiết kiệm và trau chuốt hơn một chút cho cùng ý.
    • GRABut it doesn't mean being everyone's friend or never disagreeing.A short sentence with 'or' linking two things being ruled out. The 7.5 answer expresses a similar idea inside a longer sentence beginning 'What it doesn't require is...', a more formal, essay-style construction.Một câu ngắn với 'or' nối hai điều bị loại trừ. Câu trả lời ở band 7.5 diễn đạt một ý tương tự trong một câu dài hơn bắt đầu bằng 'What it doesn't require is...', một cấu trúc trang trọng hơn, mang tính bài luận hơn.

Honestly, more than ambitious people admit, and less than anxious people fear. There's a designer in our studio everyone likes, and when her project hits trouble at midnight, three people appear without being asked; there's a more brilliant one nobody really wants to sit beside, and he solves everything alone, slowly. To be fair, being liked at work brings help, information and forgiveness for mistakes, since most work is genuinely done through other people. What it doesn't require, though, is being everyone's friend or never disagreeing. I'd say respect matters more than popularity — a colleague who's fair and competent ends up liked enough regardless.
