Đề bài (cue card)

Describe a useful skill you learned from an older person

You should say:

  • who the older person was
  • what skill you learned from this older person
  • how easy or difficult it was to learn this skill
  • and explain why it was useful for you to learn this skill from this older person

Band 6.5

Short, plain statements like 'It was not easy at all' and 'My first ten cakes were failures' keep the description clear but simple, which is characteristic of Band 6.5.Những câu ngắn, đơn giản như 'It was not easy at all' (không dễ chút nào) và 'My first ten cakes were failures' (mười cái bánh đầu tiên của mình đều hỏng) giữ cho phần miêu tả rõ ràng nhưng đơn giản, đặc trưng của Band 6.5.

The older person I want to talk about is my grandmother, who lives in Hue. The skill she taught me was how to make banh beo, a small steamed rice cake that is famous in our hometown.

I learned this when I was about sixteen, during a summer holiday. My grandmother makes banh beo every week to sell to neighbours, and one day I asked if I could help her instead of just eating them. She said yes, but she didn't explain much. She just showed me once and then watched me try.

It was not easy at all. The rice batter has to be the right thickness, and you steam it in tiny dishes for exactly the right time, or the cake breaks when you take it out. My first ten cakes were failures. My grandmother didn't get angry, she just told me to do it again. After about two weeks of practising almost every day, my cakes finally looked like hers.

This skill has been useful because now I can cook something from my hometown wherever I live, even in Da Nang. Sometimes I make banh beo for my friends, and it always makes me think of my grandmother's kitchen. It's a small skill, but it connects me to home.

  • LRMy first ten cakes were failures.'Failures' is a common, everyday noun used in its most literal sense, with no attempt at a more specific or colourful alternative like 'disasters' or 'flops' that a 7.5 answer might reach for. That plainness matches the Band 6.5 lexical target precisely, which calls for 'everyday, high-frequency words' and explicitly warns against idioms or clever phrasing at this tier. The specific number 'ten' does add a small concrete detail that keeps the sentence from being purely abstract, which is enough to make the statement feel personal and credible without needing more advanced vocabulary.'Failures' là một danh từ thông dụng, đời thường được dùng theo nghĩa đen nhất, không có nỗ lực tìm một lựa chọn cụ thể hơn hay sinh động hơn như 'disasters' hay 'flops' mà một câu trả lời Band 7.5 có thể vươn tới.
  • FCIt was not easy at all.The sentence states the difficulty of learning to make banh beo in the plainest possible terms, without elaborating on why or giving a figurative comparison, before the following sentences fill in the specific technical challenges. That kind of simple, direct topic sentence — stating the point and then supporting it with concrete detail — is exactly the 'answer directly, stay on topic' approach the Band 6.5 fluency target expects, rather than the more woven-in evaluative style a 7.5 answer would use.
  • GRAAfter about two weeks of practising almost every day, my cakes finally looked like hers.Fronting the time phrase 'After about two weeks of practising almost every day' before the main clause is a small but genuine grammatical choice, since the more basic version would simply place it at the end: 'my cakes finally looked like hers after two weeks.' That fronted structure is the kind of modest variety the Band 6.5 grammar target expects — 'a few basic complex ones' beyond plain simple sentences — without attempting the more elaborate embedded clauses a 7.5 answer would use. The specific detail of 'almost every day' also grounds the improvement in real, sustained effort rather than a vague claim of getting better.
Band 7.0

The relative clause 'which meant I had to pay close attention every single time' extends a simple observation into a fuller explanation, and the natural collocation 'wasting my pocket money' shows comfortable, flexible word choice typical of Band 7.0.Mệnh đề quan hệ 'which meant I had to pay close attention every single time' (nghĩa là mình phải chú ý thật kỹ mỗi lần như vậy) mở rộng một nhận xét đơn giản thành một lời giải thích đầy đủ hơn, và cụm từ tự nhiên 'wasting my pocket money' (phí tiền tiêu vặt) cho thấy sự lựa chọn từ ngữ thoải mái, linh hoạt điển hình của Band 7.0.

The older person I want to talk about is a man called Mr Tan, who used to run a tiny bicycle repair stall near where I grew up, and the skill he taught me was how to fix a punctured tyre and adjust brakes properly.

I was about fourteen when I started hanging around his stall after school, mostly because my own bike kept breaking down and I got tired of paying him every single time. One afternoon he just handed me a spanner and said I might as well learn to do it myself instead of wasting my pocket money.

It wasn't easy at first, to be honest. Finding the exact spot where the tyre was leaking took me ages, because you have to submerge the tube in water and watch carefully for tiny bubbles, and my first few patches kept coming loose because I hadn't roughened the rubber enough before gluing it. Mr Tan didn't really explain things in detail, he mostly just watched and corrected me when I got something wrong, which meant I had to pay close attention every single time.

After a couple of months of practising on my own bike and occasionally my friends', I finally got reasonably confident, and I could fix a puncture in about ten minutes without really thinking about it.

This skill has been genuinely useful for me since then. I still ride a bike sometimes now, and whenever something goes wrong, I can usually sort it out myself rather than paying someone else or waiting around at a shop. More than that, though, I think Mr Tan taught me that you learn things properly by doing them badly a few times first, which is something I still remind myself of whenever I'm trying to pick up a new skill as an adult.

  • LRwasting my pocket money"Wasting my pocket money" pairs the verb "waste" with the specific, age-appropriate noun "pocket money" rather than a vaguer phrase like "spending my money badly," giving the anecdote concrete, relatable texture -- the kind of flexible, topic-specific collocation the Band 7.0 lexical target calls for, used naturally here within reported speech (Mr Tan's own words) rather than as decoration.
  • FCIt wasn't easy at first, to be honest."To be honest" is a natural spoken hedge that frames the admission of difficulty as a candid aside rather than a scripted transition, and its placement at the end of the sentence rather than the more formal front-loaded "Honestly," adds to the conversational rhythm -- this kind of natural linking device, rather than IELTS-Writing transitions like "However," is exactly what the shared band guidance asks speakers to use.
  • GRAMr Tan didn't really explain things in detail, he mostly just watched and corrected me when I got something wrong, which meant I had to pay close attention every single time.A comma-spliced pair of independent clauses is extended by a "which" relative clause referring back to the whole preceding idea -- Mr Tan's hands-off teaching style -- to state its consequence (having to pay close attention every time). This long but accurately controlled chain stays within Band 7.0's "comfortable mix... generally accurate" range rather than reaching for more deliberately varied structures like a cleft sentence, and it captures something specific about the teaching method rather than just that a skill was learned.Một cặp mệnh đề độc lập nối bằng dấu phẩy (comma splice) được mở rộng thêm bằng một mệnh đề quan hệ với "which" chỉ lại toàn bộ ý trước đó -- phong cách dạy kiểu buông tay của ông Tan -- để nêu hệ quả của nó (phải luôn chú ý kỹ mỗi lần).
Band 7.5

The paradoxical phrase 'the boring part is the part' captures an insight in compact, idiomatic language, and the result clause 'well enough that he let me do the price board' shows the varied complex grammar expected at Band 7.5.Cụm từ nghịch lý 'the boring part is the part' (phần nhàm chán mới chính là phần quan trọng) nắm bắt một nhận thức sâu sắc bằng ngôn ngữ cô đọng, mang tính thành ngữ, và mệnh đề kết quả 'well enough that he let me do the price board' (giỏi đến mức ông ấy để mình làm bảng giá) cho thấy ngữ pháp phức đa dạng mà Band 7.5 yêu cầu.

The older person was Mr Lộc, a retired sign painter who lived two doors from us in Hue, and the skill was lettering with a brush — painting letters by hand, the way shop signs were made before printers existed.

I was fifteen, bored in the summer holidays, and I'd been watching him repaint the name on a neighbour's pharmacy, one letter at a time, with a brush the width of my finger and no ruler. I asked how he kept the lines straight. He said, 'Come at seven tomorrow,' and that was the beginning.

How difficult it was: much harder than it looked, and he made it harder on purpose. For the first three weeks I wasn't allowed to paint a letter. I painted straight lines on old newspaper, hundreds a morning, then curves, then the same curve until it was identical ten times in a row. He'd look, say nothing, and hand me another sheet. When he finally let me paint an 'O', I understood why: my hand had learned to move from the shoulder, not the wrist, and the brush did what I meant. By the end of that summer I could letter a small sign well enough that he let me do the price board for the noodle shop.

Why it was useful, and why it mattered that I learned it from him rather than from a video: I'm a designer now, and half my job is typography. Everything I know about the weight of a line and the space inside a letter started on his newspaper. But the real skill was patience — he taught me that the boring part is the part, and that you earn the interesting work by doing the dull work identically a thousand times. No video would have made me wait three weeks. He did, by simply not being in a hurry. He died a few years ago. I still have the brush.

  • LRthe boring part is the partThe phrase plays on repeating 'part' with two different meanings — first as 'the tedious portion' and then, more provocatively, as 'the essential, defining portion' — compressing a philosophy of skill-learning into five words rather than spelling it out in a full sentence. That kind of compact, paradoxical wordplay is the natural, idiomatic economy the Band 7.5 lexical target rewards, since it requires real confidence with English rhythm to land a repeated word as a turn of phrase rather than a mistake.
  • FCHe did, by simply not being in a hurry. The sentence answers an implied question — how did Mr Lộc teach patience without a video or a formal method? — in the shortest way possible, adding only one small prepositional phrase ('by simply not being in a hurry') rather than a fuller explanation. That kind of compressed, confident close, trusting the reader to supply the connection to what came before, is a more sophisticated coherence move than the fuller restatement a lower-band answer would need to make its point clear. Coming right after the rhetorical claim that 'no video would have made me wait three weeks,' the short sentence delivers the answer with real economy.Câu này trả lời một câu hỏi ngầm — Thầy Lộc đã dạy sự kiên nhẫn như thế nào mà không cần video hay phương pháp chính quy nào?
  • GRABy the end of that summer I could letter a small sign well enough that he let me do the price board for the noodle shop.'Well enough that' is a result structure showing the skill reached a specific, testable threshold — good enough to earn a real task — rather than a vaguer claim like 'I got quite good at it.' Building the sentence around this kind of degree-plus-result clause, and fronting it with the time marker 'by the end of that summer,' is the flexible grammar the Band 7.5 target expects over the simpler main-clause statements a 6.5 answer would rely on.

  1. 1. Why do children often enjoy learning from older people?

    Band 6.5

Sticks to short, self-contained sentences joined by plain connectors like 'For example' and 'also', which keeps the reasoning easy to follow but flat.Bài viết dùng các câu ngắn, độc lập, nối với nhau bằng những từ nối đơn giản như 'For example' và 'also', khiến lập luận dễ theo dõi nhưng khá đơn điệu.

I think children enjoy learning from older people because they are patient and not in a hurry. For example, Mr Lộc taught me a skill that took a whole summer, but he never rushed me and treated me like an apprentice, not just a child. Older people also have interesting stories and knowledge about things from the past, like old tools or old songs. Parents are often too busy with work to explain things slowly. Children can also feel when someone is really interested in teaching them, and they enjoy that attention.

    • FCFor example, Mr Lộc taught me a skillThe 6.5 answer signals its example with the basic, formulaic connector 'For example'. The 7.0 version instead opens with a spoken hedge ('Honestly, I think'), and 7.5 drops the signpost altogether and folds the example straight into the sentence, reading as more naturally connected rather than mechanically listed.Bài 6.5 điểm dùng từ nối cơ bản, khuôn mẫu 'For example' để dẫn vào ví dụ.
    • LRtreated me like an apprentice, not just a childThe phrasing here is plain and literal. At 7.0 this becomes 'spoke to me almost like an apprentice', softened with a hedge, while 7.5 sharpens it into 'addressed me as an apprentice rather than a boy' plus the idiomatic 'intoxicating' — noticeably more precise and evaluative.Cách diễn đạt ở đây khá đơn giản, trực nghĩa. Ở mức 7.0, câu này trở thành 'spoke to me almost like an apprentice', được làm mềm bằng cách nói giảm nhẹ, còn 7.5 làm nó sắc bén hơn thành 'addressed me as an apprentice rather than a boy' cùng từ mang tính thành ngữ 'intoxicating' — rõ ràng chính xác và giàu tính đánh giá hơn.
    • GRAChildren can also feel when someone is really interested in teaching them, and they enjoy that attention. This is a simple compound sentence joined with 'and'. The 7.5 version fuses a similar idea with a semicolon and a relative clause ('that kind of attention is rare, and kids gravitate toward it instinctively'), showing a wider range of clause-linking devices.Đây là một câu ghép đơn giản nối bằng 'and'. Phiên bản 7.5 kết hợp một ý tương tự bằng dấu chấm phẩy và một mệnh đề quan hệ ('that kind of attention is rare, and kids gravitate toward it instinctively'), cho thấy phạm vi sử dụng các phương tiện liên kết mệnh đề rộng hơn.
    Band 7.0

Uses spoken hedges such as 'Honestly' and 'To be fair' to soften claims, and links the example with 'for instance' inside a longer, more natural-sounding sentence.Sử dụng các cách nói giảm nhẹ theo văn nói như 'Honestly' và 'To be fair' để làm mềm các luận điểm, và liên kết ví dụ bằng 'for instance' trong một câu dài hơn, nghe tự nhiên hơn.

Honestly, I think it's mainly because older people aren't in a rush and don't treat children like children. Mr Lộc, for instance, gave me a whole summer for a skill a school would have covered in a single afternoon, and he spoke to me almost like an apprentice, which felt quite special at fifteen. To be fair, parents are usually rushing between jobs and don't have that same patience. Older people also carry stories and knowledge from a world that seems a bit exotic now, like old tools or songs from the past. I'd say children simply go wherever that kind of genuine attention is.

    • FCTo be fair, parents are usually rushing between jobsThe hedge 'To be fair' marks a concession before returning to the main argument, a cohesive move the 6.5 answer doesn't attempt — it just states parents are busy as a flat fact. The 7.5 version achieves the same concession more compactly with 'by contrast'.Cách nói giảm nhẹ 'To be fair' đánh dấu một sự nhượng bộ trước khi quay lại luận điểm chính, đây là thủ pháp liên kết mà bài 6.5 điểm không dùng — nó chỉ nêu thẳng sự kiện cha mẹ bận rộn.
    • LRa world that seems a bit exotic nowThe hedge 'a bit' softens the claim in a natural spoken way. The 6.5 answer avoids this kind of evaluative colouring entirely, while 7.5 commits fully to the image with 'a whole exotic world that seems to have vanished', trading caution for a more vivid, idiomatic phrase.Từ giảm nhẹ 'a bit' làm mềm luận điểm theo cách nói tự nhiên. Bài 6.5 hoàn toàn tránh loại sắc thái đánh giá này, trong khi 7.5 dấn sâu vào hình ảnh đó với 'a whole exotic world that seems to have vanished', đánh đổi sự thận trọng để lấy cách diễn đạt sinh động, giàu tính thành ngữ hơn.
    • GRAMr Lộc, for instance, gave me a whole summer for a skill a school would have covered in a single afternoon, and he spoke to me almost like an apprentice, which felt quite special at fifteen. This one sentence chains a main clause, a coordinated clause with 'and', and a non-defining relative clause ('which felt quite special'), noticeably more complex than the two short sentences the 6.5 answer uses for the same content.Câu này nối liền một mệnh đề chính, một mệnh đề song song bằng 'and', và một mệnh đề quan hệ không xác định ('which felt quite special'), rõ ràng phức tạp hơn nhiều so với hai câu ngắn mà bài 6.5 dùng để diễn đạt cùng nội dung.
    Band 7.5

Opens with the idiomatic image 'racing the clock' and closes on the evaluative touch 'kids gravitate toward it instinctively', giving the answer a shaped, reflective ending rather than just stopping.Mở đầu bằng hình ảnh mang tính thành ngữ 'racing the clock' và kết thúc bằng nét đánh giá 'kids gravitate toward it instinctively', tạo cho câu trả lời một đoạn kết được xây dựng có chủ đích, giàu suy ngẫm thay vì chỉ dừng lại đột ngột.

Mostly, I'd say, because older people aren't racing the clock and they don't reduce a child to just a child. Mr Lộc handed me an entire summer for a skill a school would have crammed into an afternoon, and he addressed me as an apprentice rather than a boy, which at fifteen was genuinely intoxicating. Parents, by contrast, are shuttling between jobs and rarely have that same unhurried patience. Older people also come bearing stories, hand tools, old songs — a whole exotic world that seems to have vanished. And children have a sixth sense for when an adult is truly invested in passing something on; that kind of attention is rare, and kids gravitate toward it instinctively.

I think a society loses things it doesn't even realise it had. For example, hand lettering almost disappeared in Hue because nobody younger thought the old sign painters were worth asking. Lonely old people also get sick, and hospitals end up paying more for it later. It teaches the young something bleak too, since everyone gets old eventually. I believe societies that respect their elders stay steadier, while the ones that don't repeat mistakes their grandparents already knew to avoid.

Honestly, I think a society like that loses things without even knowing it had them. The hand-lettering skill nearly disappeared in Hue in just one generation, because nobody younger thought the old sign painters had anything worth asking about. To be fair, it's also cruel in a practical sense — older people who are left alone tend to get sick, lonely and poor, and the cost eventually lands on hospitals and their own children. I'd say it quietly loses things it doesn't even know it once had. Hand lettering nearly vanished from Hue with a single generation of sign painters, simply because nobody younger imagined the old men had anything worth asking about. There's also a more practical cruelty at work: elderly people left to fend for themselves get sick, lonely and poor, and that cost eventually lands on hospitals and on their own children. It teaches the young something rather bleak about their own future too, given that everyone is heading the same way. I think different people help in different ways, and no single person can do it all. For example, Mr Lộc's daughter in Saigon sent money, the neighbours checked on him daily, and a nurse visited monthly. Each of them did something the others couldn't. Family is best for love and important decisions because they know the person well. Neighbours help with everyday things since they are close by, and professionals give medical care that untrained people might get wrong. I think leaving everything to one family member, like daughters often do, makes them exhausted and doesn't really help the older person enough.

  8. 8. What kinds of help do older people usually need?

    tháng 5–8/2026
    So sánh Band 6.5 / 7.0 / 7.5 cho câu hỏi này
    Band 6.5

Numbers the four kinds of help explicitly with 'First', 'Second', 'Third' and 'And finally', which organises the answer clearly but in a slightly list-like way.Đánh số rõ ràng bốn loại giúp đỡ bằng 'First', 'Second', 'Third' và 'And finally', giúp câu trả lời có tổ chức rõ ràng nhưng hơi mang tính liệt kê.

From my experience with Mr Lộc, I think older people need four main kinds of help. First, technical help, like using a phone or filling in online forms. Second, physical help, like climbing stairs, carrying shopping, or changing a light bulb. Third, administrative help, like doctors' appointments, pensions and paperwork. And finally, company, because evenings were often the hardest part of his week, and no service can really provide that. But I think most older people need small, regular help rather than big things, and mostly want to keep doing things for themselves.

    • FCFirst, technical help, like using a phone or filling in online forms. The ordinal markers 'First', 'Second', 'Third' make the structure very explicit but somewhat mechanical. Both higher bands drop the numbering and instead use single labelling words ('Technical:', 'Physical:') followed by a colon or dash, which reads as more naturally spoken.Các từ đánh số thứ tự 'First', 'Second', 'Third' khiến cấu trúc rất rõ ràng nhưng hơi máy móc.
    • LRbig thingsThis is a vague, general phrase. The 7.5 answer replaces it with the more specific and slightly playful 'large dramatic ones', which paints a clearer picture of what is being ruled out.Đây là một cụm từ mơ hồ, chung chung.
    • GRAAnd finally, company, because evenings were often the hardest part of his week, and no service can really provide that.A fragment ('company') is expanded with a 'because... and' clause. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use a colon after 'the one people tend to forget' to introduce the same idea even more economically.Một mảnh câu ('company') được mở rộng bằng mệnh đề 'because... and'. Các bài 7.0 và 7.5 dùng dấu hai chấm sau 'the one people tend to forget' để dẫn vào cùng ý đó một cách kinh tế hơn nữa.
    Band 7.0

Drops full sentences for the first three categories in favour of a fragment plus dash-appended examples ('Technical help — the phone he couldn't work...'), a more compressed, spoken-style structure.Bỏ câu đầy đủ cho ba nhóm đầu tiên, thay bằng một mảnh câu cộng với các ví dụ gắn thêm bằng dấu gạch ngang ('Technical help — the phone he couldn't work...'), một cấu trúc súc tích hơn, mang phong cách khẩu ngữ.

Honestly, based on my experience with Mr Lộc, I'd say there are four kinds. Technical help — the phone he couldn't work, online forms, a television that had basically become a computer. Physical help — the stairs, the shopping, a light bulb he could no longer reach. Administrative help — doctors' appointments, pensions, anything involving an office. And the one people tend to forget: company, because evenings were the hardest part of his week and no service really delivers that. But most older people I know need small, frequent things rather than large ones, and mostly want to keep doing what they still can.

    • FCAnd the one people tend to forget: company, because evenings were the hardest part of his week and no service really delivers that. The colon after 'the one people tend to forget' builds anticipation before naming 'company', a more deliberate cohesive move than the 6.5 answer's plain 'And finally, company...'.Dấu hai chấm sau 'the one people tend to forget' tạo sự chờ đợi trước khi nêu tên 'company', một thủ pháp liên kết có chủ đích hơn câu 'And finally, company...' đơn giản của bài 6.5.
    • LRa television that had basically become a computerThis is a mildly hyperbolic, natural-sounding way to describe a confusing modern TV. The 6.5 answer doesn't include this detail at all, sticking to the more literal 'using a phone or filling in online forms'.Đây là một cách nói hơi cường điệu nhưng nghe tự nhiên để mô tả một chiếc tivi hiện đại gây bối rối. Bài 6.5 hoàn toàn không có chi tiết này, chỉ dừng lại ở cách nói trực nghĩa hơn 'using a phone or filling in online forms'.
    • GRATechnical help — the phone he couldn't work, online forms, a television that had basically become a computer. This fragment-plus-dash structure omits the verb entirely, relying on the list to carry the meaning — a more elliptical, advanced structure than the 6.5 answer's full 'First, technical help, like...' sentence.Cấu trúc mảnh câu cộng dấu gạch ngang này lược bỏ hoàn toàn động từ, dựa vào danh sách để truyền tải ý nghĩa — một cấu trúc tỉnh lược, cao cấp hơn câu đầy đủ 'First, technical help, like...' của bài 6.5.
    Band 7.5

Uses single-word colon labels ('Technical:', 'Physical:', 'Administrative:') instead of full sentences, and closes with the reflective line 'The best help... is the kind that quietly preserves that'.Dùng các nhãn một từ kèm dấu hai chấm ('Technical:', 'Physical:', 'Administrative:') thay vì câu đầy đủ, và kết thúc bằng câu mang tính suy ngẫm 'The best help... is the kind that quietly preserves that'.

Four kinds, in my experience with Mr Lộc. Technical: the phone he couldn't work, the online forms, the television that had somehow become a computer. Physical: the stairs, the shopping, the light bulb he could no longer reach. Administrative: doctors' appointments, pensions, anything involving an office. And the one people tend to forget — company, because evenings were the hardest part of his week, and no service on earth delivers that. Medical help does climb with age, and eventually many need daily care. But most older people I know need small, frequent things rather than large dramatic ones, and what they want most is to keep doing for themselves whatever they still can. The best help, I'd say, is the kind that quietly preserves that.

    • FCTechnical: the phone he couldn't work, the online forms, the television that had somehow become a computer. The bare label followed by a colon is the most compressed of the three bands' openings for this category — the 6.5 answer needs a full 'First, technical help, like...' sentence, and the 7.0 answer still needs the words 'Technical help' before the dash.Nhãn trơ trọi theo sau dấu hai chấm là cách mở đầu súc tích nhất trong ba mức điểm cho nhóm này — bài 6.5 cần cả câu 'First, technical help, like...', còn bài 7.0 vẫn cần các từ 'Technical help' trước dấu gạch ngang.

    • GRAThe best help, I'd say, is the kind that quietly preserves that.A relative clause ('that quietly preserves that') closes the answer on a reflective note, a more evaluative final sentence than the plain, practical closing statements in the two lower bands.Một mệnh đề quan hệ ('that quietly preserves that') khép lại câu trả lời bằng một nốt trầm mang tính suy ngẫm, một câu kết giàu tính đánh giá hơn những câu kết đơn giản, thực tế của hai mức điểm thấp hơn.
  9. 9. Why do some young people today fail to recognise the contributions older people have made to society?

    tháng 5–8/2026
    So sánh Band 6.5 / 7.0 / 7.5 cho câu hỏi này
    Band 6.5

Introduces each new reason with 'also' or 'And', giving a clear point-by-point list rather than a tightly woven argument.Giới thiệu mỗi lý do mới bằng 'also' hoặc 'And', đưa ra một danh sách rõ ràng theo từng điểm thay vì một lập luận được đan kết chặt chẽ.

I think it's mainly because the contributions have become invisible once they succeed. For example, my colleagues cross a bridge every day that Mr Lộc's generation built by hand, but a finished bridge just looks like any other bridge. Young people also live apart from older people now, in different neighbourhoods and online, so they know old people as a group, not as individuals. And schools teach kings and wars, not who actually built things like the water system. I think recognising their contributions needs real contact and stories, and both have become rarer.

    • FCFor example, my colleagues cross a bridge every dayThe bridge example is flagged with the plain connector 'For example'. The 7.5 answer removes this signpost entirely and simply states the fact, which lets the argument flow more naturally into the example.Ví dụ về cây cầu được đánh dấu bằng từ nối đơn giản 'For example'.
    • LRinvisible once they succeedThis is accurate but slightly literal. The 7.5 answer compresses the same idea into 'invisible by succeeding', a more economical and idiomatic phrase for the same cause-and-effect relationship.Cách nói này chính xác nhưng hơi trực nghĩa.
    • GRAYoung people also live apart from older people now, in different neighbourhoods and online, so they know old people as a group, not as individuals.A single 'so' clause links cause and effect, with a plain 'not as' contrast at the end. Both higher bands rebuild this with a dash-set-off aside for 'different neighbourhoods, different screens', a more polished way to present the same list.Một mệnh đề 'so' đơn lẻ liên kết nguyên nhân và kết quả, kèm một sự đối lập đơn giản 'not as' ở cuối.
    Band 7.0

Sets off 'different neighbourhoods, different screens' between two dashes as a compressed aside, and uses 'To be fair' and 'And honestly' to keep the tone conversational across several reasons.Tách 'different neighbourhoods, different screens' ra giữa hai dấu gạch ngang như một lời chú thích cô đọng, và dùng 'To be fair' cùng 'And honestly' để giữ giọng điệu như đang trò chuyện xuyên suốt nhiều lý do.

Honestly, I think it's partly because their contributions have become invisible simply by succeeding. My colleagues cross a bridge every day that Mr Lộc's generation built largely by hand, and they've never once thought about it, because a finished bridge just looks like a bridge. To be fair, young people also live more separately from older people now — different neighbourhoods, different screens — so they end up knowing the elderly as a category rather than as people with real histories. And honestly, nobody really tells them — schools teach kings and wars, not who built the water system. I'd say recognition needs contact and story, and both have thinned quite a lot.

    • FCTo be fair, young people also live more separately from older people now'To be fair' introduces this reason as a considered concession within a longer chain of reasons, a more connected move than the 6.5 answer's plain 'Young people also live apart...'.'To be fair' dẫn nhập lý do này như một sự nhượng bộ được cân nhắc kỹ trong một chuỗi lý do dài hơn, một bước liên kết chặt chẽ hơn câu 'Young people also live apart...' đơn giản của bài 6.5.
    • LRknowing the elderly as a category rather than as people with real historiesThis precisely contrasts 'category' with 'people with real histories' in parallel phrasing. The 6.5 answer expresses a similar idea more plainly as 'know old people as a group, not as individuals'.Câu này đối lập chính xác 'category' với 'people with real histories' bằng cấu trúc song song. Bài 6.5 diễn đạt một ý tương tự một cách bằng phẳng hơn là 'know old people as a group, not as individuals'.
    • GRAyoung people also live more separately from older people now — different neighbourhoods, different screens — so they end up knowing the elderly as a category rather than as people with real histories. Two dashes set off a parallel two-item aside in the middle of the sentence before the 'so' clause continues, a more elaborate structure than the 6.5 answer's single flat 'so' clause.Hai dấu gạch ngang tách ra một chú thích song song gồm hai mục ở giữa câu trước khi mệnh đề 'so' tiếp tục, một cấu trúc công phu hơn mệnh đề 'so' bằng phẳng, đơn lẻ của bài 6.5.

Because the contributions have become invisible by succeeding, I'd say. My colleagues cross the river every day on a bridge that Mr Lộc's generation built largely by hand, and they've never once thought about it, because a finished bridge just looks like a bridge. Young people live inside a world older people made, and the making itself is hidden. They also live apart from the old now — different neighbourhoods, different screens — so they know the elderly as a category rather than as people with histories. The sheer speed of change makes old knowledge look obsolete rather than foundational, and honestly nobody tells them otherwise: schools teach kings and wars, not who built the water system. Recognition needs contact and story, and both have worn rather thin.

    • FCYoung people live inside a world older people made, and the making itself is hidden. This short, balanced pair of clauses works almost like a mini-thesis statement placed mid-answer, a rhetorical device neither lower band uses — they keep building their argument through separate, more literal reasons instead.Cặp mệnh đề ngắn, cân đối này hoạt động gần như một luận điểm thu nhỏ đặt giữa câu trả lời, một thủ pháp tu từ mà cả hai mức điểm thấp hơn đều không dùng — chúng thay vào đó xây dựng lập luận qua từng lý do riêng biệt, trực nghĩa hơn.
    • LRinvisible by succeedingThis compact phrase packs cause and effect into three words. The 6.5 answer needs the fuller, more literal 'invisible once they succeed', and the 7.0 answer sits between the two with 'invisible simply by succeeding'.Cụm từ cô đọng này gói gọn quan hệ nhân quả chỉ trong ba từ. Bài 6.5 cần cách nói đầy đủ, trực nghĩa hơn 'invisible once they succeed', còn bài 7.0 nằm giữa hai mức với 'invisible simply by succeeding'.
    • GRAThey also live apart from the old now — different neighbourhoods, different screens — so they know the elderly as a category rather than as people with histories. The dash-set-off pair 'different neighbourhoods, different screens' is even more condensed here than in the 7.0 answer, with the definite article dropped ('as people with histories' rather than 'with real histories'), tightening the sentence further.Cặp cụm từ tách bởi dấu gạch ngang 'different neighbourhoods, different screens' ở đây còn cô đọng hơn trong bài 7.0, với tính từ bổ nghĩa bị lược bỏ ('as people with histories' thay vì 'with real histories'), khiến câu càng thêm chặt chẽ.
