Gần nhất ra thi tháng 5–8/2026

Đề bài (cue card)

Describe a time when you had to pay more than you expected for something

You should say:

  • What you were paying for
  • How you felt when you saw the price
  • What you did about it
  • and explain why the amount of money you had to pay was unexpected

Band 6.5

The plain phrase 'I felt quite shocked' and a simple comparative sentence describe the situation clearly but without linguistic ambition, Band 6.5 level.Cụm từ đơn giản 'I felt quite shocked' (tôi cảm thấy khá sốc) cùng một câu so sánh đơn giản miêu tả tình huống một cách rõ ràng nhưng không có tham vọng về ngôn ngữ, mức Band 6.5.

The thing I want to talk about is a haircut and hair dye I got at a new salon inside Vincom mall, about three months ago. My hair was getting long, and I also wanted to try a lighter colour for a change. I was paying for a haircut, a wash, and colouring my hair light brown, and the stylist, whose name was Trang, spent almost three hours on it using several different products.

When I saw the price on the bill, I felt quite shocked. It was almost two million đồng, about four times more than I usually pay at my normal salon near my apartment. My face must have shown something, because Trang quickly explained that the colouring products were imported and more expensive than usual.

What I did about it was just pay, because I had already agreed to the service and hadn't checked the price list carefully before starting. I didn't argue, but I felt annoyed with myself walking home.

Why it was unexpected is simple: the salon is in a big shopping mall, so I assumed the price would be similar to other salons, and I didn't ask about the colour treatment price first, which was my mistake. Now I always ask the full price before any new service.

  • LRI felt quite shocked"Quite shocked" is a plain, very common way to express surprise, built from a basic intensifier and a familiar adjective rather than a more vivid alternative like "I was taken aback" or "my jaw dropped." This directness without embellishment is exactly the 6.5 lexical target — "use everyday, high-frequency words... do NOT reach for idioms or clever phrasing." The phrase is also placed early and briefly, functioning as a simple emotional marker before the story moves on to explain why, rather than being developed into a longer descriptive passage."Quite shocked" là một cách diễn đạt sự ngạc nhiên đơn giản, rất thông dụng, được xây dựng từ một từ nhấn mạnh cơ bản và một tính từ quen thuộc thay vì một lựa chọn sinh động hơn như "I was taken aback" hay "my jaw dropped."
  • GRAthe colouring products were imported and more expensive than usual. This uses a basic comparative structure ("more expensive than usual") joined to the first clause with a simple "and," correctly but without any further grammatical ambition — no relative clause, no conditional, no fronted phrase. That accurate-but-plain construction is precisely what the 6.5 tier expects: "mostly simple sentences plus a few basic complex ones," with the comparative here counting as one of those basic complex elements rather than anything more elaborate. A 7.0 answer at the same point would likely link this explanation into a longer sentence with a result clause showing why it mattered.Câu này dùng một cấu trúc so sánh cơ bản ("more expensive than usual") được nối với mệnh đề đầu tiên bằng một "and" đơn giản, chính xác nhưng không có thêm tham vọng ngữ pháp nào — không mệnh đề quan hệ, không câu điều kiện, không cụm từ đảo lên trước.
  • FCNow I always ask the full price before any new service. This closing sentence states the lesson learned directly and briefly, giving the story a plain resolution without extending it with reflection on how the experience changed the speaker's broader attitude toward spending or salons. That direct, unelaborated closing move is sufficient for the 6.5 tier's Fluency and Coherence target — "answer directly, stay on topic" — but it stops short of the evaluative or generalising close a 7.0 or 7.5 answer would add.
Band 7.0

The natural collocation 'after the fact' and the multi-clause sentence weighing the mechanic's explanation against the price show accurate, comfortable Band 7.0 development.Cụm từ tự nhiên 'after the fact' (sau khi sự việc đã xảy ra) cùng câu nhiều mệnh đề cân nhắc giữa lời giải thích của thợ sửa xe và mức giá cho thấy sự phát triển chính xác, tự nhiên của Band 7.0.

The thing I want to talk about is a motorbike repair I had done a few months ago. My bike had been making a strange noise for a while, so I took it to a mechanic near my apartment, thinking it would just be a simple, cheap fix.

When I first dropped it off, the mechanic quoted me a rough estimate of around four hundred thousand đồng, which sounded reasonable, so I left the bike with him and went to work. But when I came back to collect it that evening, he told me the actual problem was with a part inside the engine, not just something minor, and the total bill came to almost two million đồng.

Honestly, I felt pretty annoyed and a bit caught off guard when I saw the final price, especially since it was so much higher than what he'd originally told me. I did ask him to explain the difference, and he showed me the part that had been replaced, which did look genuinely worn out, so I didn't think he was lying to me, just that he'd underestimated the problem at the start.

What I did in the end was just pay it, since the bike was already fixed and I needed it for getting to work. There wasn't really much point arguing after the fact.

Why it was so unexpected, I think, comes down to the fact that I didn't ask him to confirm the price again once he found the real problem, and I probably should have. Now I always ask a mechanic to call me before doing any extra work, just so there are no surprises like that again.

  • GRAhe told me the actual problem was with a part inside the engine, not just something minor, and the total bill came to almost two million đồngThis sentence layers a contrastive phrase, "not just something minor," inside a reported-speech clause, then coordinates it with a second consequence clause about the bill, two separate grammatical moves combined smoothly in one extended sentence. It's the comfortable, accurate complex grammar the 7.0 descriptor describes, stopping short of anything like a cleft sentence or nested conditional that would mark 7.5. The specific number, "almost two million đồng" against the earlier "four hundred thousand," also does real argumentative work, making the scale of the surprise concrete.Câu này lồng một cụm tương phản, 'not just something minor,' vào bên trong một mệnh đề lời nói gián tiếp, rồi phối hợp nó với một mệnh đề hệ quả thứ hai về hóa đơn, hai thủ pháp ngữ pháp riêng biệt được kết hợp trôi chảy trong một câu mở rộng.
  • LRThere wasn't really much point arguing after the fact."After the fact" is a natural, slightly idiomatic-leaning collocation meaning "once something has already happened," used here instead of a more literal phrase like "after it was already done." It's the flexible, topic-specific-adjacent phrase the 7.0 lexical descriptor targets, sitting comfortably among otherwise plain vocabulary rather than standing out as showy. It also economically closes the argument about why the speaker didn't push back on the mechanic's price.'After the fact' là một cụm kết hợp tự nhiên, hơi nghiêng về thành ngữ, nghĩa là 'một khi điều gì đó đã xảy ra rồi,' được dùng ở đây thay vì một cụm mang tính nghĩa đen hơn kiểu 'after it was already done.'
  • FCI did ask him to explain the difference, and he showed me the part that had been replaced, which did look genuinely worn out, so I didn't think he was lying to meRather than simply stating the outcome, that the speaker paid, this develops the reasoning with a concrete example, actually seeing the worn part, that leads to a specific conclusion about the mechanic's honesty. That's the kind of reason-plus-example development the 7.0 fluency descriptor calls for, going beyond the bare fact that the bill was higher than expected. A 6.5 answer would likely skip the verification step and just state that the price was paid.
Band 7.5

The ironic image of walking out 'feeling like a man who'd been taught a lesson in the most pleasant possible way' and the repeated-'message' construction show the idiomatic, controlled sophistication of Band 7.5.Hình ảnh mỉa mai về việc bước ra 'cảm giác như một người vừa được dạy cho một bài học theo cách dễ chịu nhất có thể' cùng cấu trúc lặp lại từ 'message' cho thấy sự tinh tế mang tính thành ngữ, được kiểm soát tốt của Band 7.5.

The time I'd describe was a dinner in Hội An last spring, when a colleague from our German client's team was visiting Vietnam for the first time, and I'd offered to take her, along with two people from my studio, to a restaurant on the river.

What I was paying for was the meal — a table by the water, lanterns, grilled fish, a whole crab, some local dishes I wanted her to try, and a couple of bottles of wine, which was the mistake. The restaurant was one I'd walked past many times but never eaten in. The menu had beautiful photographs and no prices, and I remember noticing that and deciding it would be rude to ask in front of a guest.

How I felt when the bill came was a small, cold shock. It was three million six hundred thousand đồng, roughly three times what I'd budgeted. I'm sure my face did something, because Linh, sitting beside me, quietly asked if I was all right.

What I did about it was nothing, in the moment. I could have questioned the bill, and part of me wanted to, but our guest was there, delighted with the evening, and arguing over money in front of her would have spoiled it and embarrassed everyone at the table. So I paid, smiled, and walked out along the river feeling like a man who'd been taught a lesson in the most pleasant possible way.

Why it was unexpected comes down to two things. First, I'd assumed a restaurant I'd walked past as a local was priced for locals, when it was clearly priced for tourists, and I'd stopped noticing the difference. Second, a menu with no prices is a message, and I'd read the message and ignored it. I now ask, always, before ordering wine anywhere, and I've found a much better restaurant one street back where the crab is half the price.

  • LRwalked out along the river feeling like a man who'd been taught a lesson in the most pleasant possible wayThis closing image is genuinely ironic and figurative — comparing an expensive, awkward moment to a "lesson" delivered "pleasantly" — which is precisely the kind of idiomatic, reflective touch the 7.5 lexical descriptor rewards over plain description. A 7.0 answer would more likely state directly that the experience taught him to check prices in future, without this wry self-portrait.
  • GRAa menu with no prices is a message, and I'd read the message and ignored itThe deliberate repetition of 'message' across a coordinated clause is a stylistic, less-common structure handled with control, reflecting Band 7.5 grammar.
  • FCI could have questioned the bill, and part of me wanted to, but our guest was there, delighted with the evening, and arguing over money in front of her would have spoiled itThe speaker weighs a hypothetical alternative, questioning the bill, against the real social cost of doing so, rather than simply stating what happened, which is exactly the reflective, evaluative depth the 7.5 fluency descriptor asks for beyond description. A 7.0 answer would more likely just say "I decided not to say anything because our guest was there," skipping the internal conflict. This moment also explains the emotional logic of the whole story, why an expensive mistake was absorbed silently rather than challenged. Một bài Band 7.0 nhiều khả năng chỉ nói "I decided not to say anything because our guest was there", bỏ qua sự giằng xé nội tâm.

  1. 1. What kinds of things do young people like to spend money on?

    So sánh Band 6.5 / 7.0 / 7.5 cho câu hỏi này
    Band 6.5

Opens with a plain "I think young people mostly spend money on", listing categories with simple "then" connectors.Mở đầu bằng cụm đơn giản 'I think young people mostly spend money on', liệt kê các hạng mục bằng từ nối 'then' đơn giản.

I think young people mostly spend money on food and drink out, like bubble tea or dinner with friends. At our studio, I see this every month on salary day, the juniors' money goes on things like that first, then clothes and shoes, then experiences like concerts and trips, and then technology, usually a new phone they didn't really need. Gym memberships get bought with excitement but used maybe twice. Compared with my parents' generation, what's different is how much goes on experiences instead of objects, and how much is spent just to be seen by other people online.

    • FCI think young people mostly spend money on food and drink out, like bubble tea or dinner with friends.A full sentence frames the claim with "I think" before the list begins. The 7.5 band drops the framing entirely, opening directly on the concrete scene "I see it every month on salary day at the studio", a more vivid, confident opening.Một câu đầy đủ dùng 'I think' để đóng khung luận điểm trước khi bắt đầu liệt kê. Band 7.5 bỏ hẳn khung này, mở đầu trực tiếp bằng cảnh cụ thể, 'I see it every month on salary day at the studio', một cách mở đầu sống động, tự tin hơn.
    • LRthen technology, usually a new phone they didn't really needClear, functional phrasing. The 7.0 and 7.5 bands both tighten this to "a phone upgrade they didn't strictly need", a more precise noun ("upgrade") and a slightly more formal adverb ("strictly").Cách diễn đạt rõ ràng, mang tính chức năng. Cả 7.0 và 7.5 đều gói gọn thành 'a phone upgrade they didn't strictly need', dùng một danh từ chính xác hơn ('upgrade') và một trạng từ hơi trang trọng hơn ('strictly').
    • GRAGym memberships get bought with excitement but used maybe twice.A single contrastive sentence with "but", correct and clear. The 7.5 band drops the conjunction and states the same contrast in two shorter clauses joined without "but" at all — "bought with enthusiasm and used twice" — a more compact structure.Một câu đối lập nối bằng 'but', đúng và rõ ràng. Band 7.5 bỏ liên từ, diễn đạt cùng sự đối lập bằng hai mệnh đề ngắn hơn không có 'but' — 'bought with enthusiasm and used twice' — một cấu trúc chặt chẽ hơn.
    Band 7.0

Adds the hedge "honestly" and extends the list with a fourth category, "Games and subscriptions", not present at 6.5.Thêm cụm rào đón 'honestly', và mở rộng danh sách thêm hạng mục thứ tư, 'Games and subscriptions', điều mà 6.5 không có.

I see it every month on salary day at the studio, honestly. The juniors' money goes, in roughly this order, on food and drink out, bubble tea, dinners, cafés with good lighting, then clothes and sneakers, then experiences like concerts, festivals and trips, then technology, usually a phone upgrade they didn't strictly need. Gym memberships get bought with real enthusiasm and used maybe twice. Games and subscriptions take a steady slice too. What's noticeable compared with my parents' generation is how much goes on experiences rather than objects, and how much is spent to be seen, a lot of youth spending is really spending on a version of yourself for other people to look at.

    • FCI see it every month on salary day at the studio, honestly. The hedge "honestly" is tacked onto the end of the opening sentence, giving it a slightly more spoken feel. The 7.5 band drops the hedge entirely, letting the concrete scene open the answer with no qualifier at all.Cụm rào đón 'honestly' được gắn vào cuối câu mở đầu, mang lại cảm giác khẩu ngữ hơn một chút. Band 7.5 bỏ hẳn cụm rào đón này, để cảnh cụ thể mở đầu câu trả lời mà không cần từ bổ nghĩa nào.
    • LRGames and subscriptions take a steady slice too."Steady slice" is a nice, natural collocation for describing a recurring but moderate expense.
    • GRAa lot of youth spending is really spending on a version of yourself for other people to look atA comma splice attaches this closing reflection directly onto the previous clause with no linking word, functional but a little loose for 7.0. The 7.5 band fixes the equivalent sentence with a colon instead, "how much is spent to be seen: a great deal of youth spending is...", a cleaner link between claim and reflection.Một câu nối bằng dấu phẩy sai (comma splice) gắn nhận xét kết thúc này trực tiếp vào mệnh đề trước mà không có từ nối nào, khả dụng nhưng hơi lỏng lẻo với band 7.0. Band 7.5 sửa lỗi tương ứng bằng dấu hai chấm, 'how much is spent to be seen: a great deal of youth spending is...', tạo sự liên kết sạch sẽ hơn giữa luận điểm và phần phản tư.
    Band 7.5

    • FCI see it every month on salary day at the studio.A short, concrete opening sentence with no hedge and no framing verb like "I think", more direct than the hedged version at 7.0 or the framed claim at 6.5. Opens with "I think it's usually because", spelling out the claim before the anecdote arrives.Mở đầu bằng 'I think it's usually because', nói rõ luận điểm trước khi câu chuyện xuất hiện.

I think it's usually because they're buying something other than just the object itself. Once I bought some wine to impress a guest, and it wasn't really about the drink, it was about looking like a generous host. People spend on things they don't need to feel a certain way, to show status, or just because buying itself feels good. Advertising is also good at making people think they need something they don't. It's also easier to spend without much thought when a purchase only takes one tap on your phone. I don't think it's usually about being silly, it's more about emotion with a price attached.

    • FCI think it's usually because they're buying something other than just the object itself.A full sentence frames the claim with "I think" before the anecdote. The 7.5 band drops the framing entirely, opening on the bare clause "Usually because they're buying something other than the thing itself", a more compact, confident structure.Một câu đầy đủ dùng 'I think' để đóng khung luận điểm trước khi dẫn vào câu chuyện. Band 7.5 bỏ hẳn khung này, mở đầu trực tiếp bằng mệnh đề trần trụi 'Usually because they're buying something other than the thing itself', một cấu trúc chặt chẽ, tự tin hơn.
    • GRAOnce I bought some wine to impress a guest, and it wasn't really about the drink, it was about looking like a generous host.A long sentence chains three clauses with commas and "and", correct but a little loose. Band 7.5 gói gọn nội dung tương ứng bằng dấu chấm phẩy, 'That wine in Hội An wasn't a drink; it was an image of myself as a generous host', một cấu trúc sạch sẽ hơn.
    • LRI don't think it's usually about being silly, it's more about emotion with a price attached.A comma splice states the closing contrast with fairly plain vocabulary. The 7.5 band fixes the punctuation with a semicolon and tightens the phrasing to "most of it is emotion with a price", cutting the slightly redundant "attached".Một câu nối bằng dấu phẩy sai phát biểu sự đối lập kết thúc bằng từ vựng khá đơn giản. Band 7.5 sửa dấu câu bằng dấu chấm phẩy và gói gọn cách diễn đạt thành 'most of it is emotion with a price', bỏ từ 'attached' hơi thừa.
    Band 7.0

Adds the hedge "Honestly", and extends the closing sentence with "I'd say" and "really" for a softer finish.

Honestly, I think it's usually because people are buying something other than the object itself. That wine I ordered once wasn't really a drink, it was an image of myself as a generous host, and I paid for the image, not the bottle. People spend on things they don't need to feel a certain way, to signal status, to relieve boredom or sadness, or simply because the buying itself is a pleasure that ends at the door of the shop. Advertising is expert at turning wants into needs, too. Ease matters as well, a purchase that takes one tap gets a lot less thought than one that required a trip to an actual shop. I'd say very little of it is stupidity, most of it is really just emotion with a price.

    • LRthe buying itself is a pleasure that ends at the door of the shopA vivid, slightly figurative phrase for the fleeting nature of the pleasure of buying.
    • FCI'd say very little of it is stupidity, most of it is really just emotion with a price. The hedge "I'd say" softens what follows into a personal judgement rather than a flat claim, a natural spoken marker for offering an opinion. A 6.5 answer would more likely state the same claim directly without this hedge; a 7.5 answer might vary the hedge or drop it for a more confident construction. Here it signals the speaker's own stance clearly while keeping the tone conversational, typical of Band 7.0.Cụm rào đón 'I'd say' làm mềm nội dung tiếp theo thành một phán đoán cá nhân thay vì một luận điểm phẳng, một dấu hiệu khẩu ngữ tự nhiên khi đưa ra quan điểm, giữ giọng điệu mang tính trò chuyện.

I think it's very important, and I learned this a bit late myself. When my father needed eye treatment two years ago, my parents paid for it from their savings without borrowing any money, and watching that made me start saving properly at thirty. Savings turn a crisis into just an expense, illness, job loss, or a broken machine become problems instead of disasters. They also give freedom, like being able to leave a bad job or take a risk. And for old age, especially where pensions are thin, they make the difference between staying independent and depending on your children. Of course, saving everything and never spending isn't good either.

I agree, but how they do it matters a lot. A businessman in Da Nang quietly paid for the rescue boats our district used in the last floods, and nobody knew until a journalist found out. Another put his name on a hospital wing and never actually finished paying for it, both are technically 'giving', but only one is really worth admiring. Wealth is never entirely self-made, it depends on workers, roads, laws, and luck too, so giving some of it back seems fair rather than saintly. Whether it should be forced by tax or left as a personal choice is a real debate, but I'd say both, with tax for the basics and giving for the rest.

    • LRWealth is never entirely self-made, it depends on workers, roads, laws, and luck too, so giving some of it back seems fair rather than saintly. The phrase 'never entirely self-made' is a common, slightly abstract way of describing how wealth depends on other people, chosen over a more concrete or varied description of who specifically contributes. A 7.0 answer might name a more specific example first; a 7.5 answer might use a more figurative phrase. The plain, general wording here is accurate and functional, representing the modest lexical range typical of Band 6.5.Cụm từ 'never entirely self-made' là một cách khá trừu tượng, phổ biến để mô tả việc của cải phụ thuộc vào người khác, thay vì một mô tả cụ thể hoặc đa dạng hơn về việc cụ thể ai đóng góp. Câu trả lời 7.0 có thể sẽ nêu một ví dụ cụ thể hơn trước; câu trả lời 7.5 có thể dùng một cụm giàu hình ảnh hơn. Cách diễn đạt đơn giản, chung chung ở đây chính xác, khả dụng, thể hiện độ rộng từ vựng vừa phải điển hình của band 6.5.

Wealth is never entirely self-made, it depends on workers, roads, laws and a fair amount of luck, so returning some of it seems fair rather than saintly. Whether it should be a duty enforced by tax or purely a personal choice is a genuine debate, I'd say both, with tax covering the basics and giving covering the rest. What matters most is that the giving is real and aimed at actual need rather than at reputation.

Our studio built a website for a homeless shelter for free, which was probably worth more to them than the donation we could have afforded. A retired teacher on my street also tutors the neighbours' children every evening for nothing. People can give what they know, give their time, or give things like clothes, food, or a spare room after a flood. Employers can hire people who need a chance, and neighbours can just notice things, like checking on an old man who hasn't been seen lately. There's also speaking up for people who can't speak for themselves. Money is easy to give, but help that involves actually showing up often changes more.

Drops the framing entirely for the compact "Somewhat more likely, but it isn't the money that decides", and closes with a further reflective sentence about choice versus inability not present at 7.0.Bỏ hẳn câu đóng khung, dùng cụm chặt chẽ 'Somewhat more likely, but it isn't the money that decides', và kết thúc bằng một câu phản tư về lựa chọn và sự bất lực mà 7.0 không có.

Somewhat more likely, but it isn't the money that decides. A former colleague who left to keep bees is the most contented person I know and earns very little; a cousin who's equally uninterested in money is broke, anxious and unhappy — indifference to wealth only helps if it comes with enough to live on and a purpose to replace it. People who chase money hard tend to compare themselves constantly and never arrive, which is corrosive. People who don't chase it avoid that trap but not the others. Research seems to say that beyond a modest level, more money adds little happiness. So not wanting a lot is a good sign, as long as it's a choice and not just an inability.

    Band 6.5

Opens with "I think it's often because", stating the claim in full before the anecdote arrives.Mở đầu bằng 'I think it's often because', phát biểu luận điểm đầy đủ trước khi câu chuyện xuất hiện.

I think it's often because of when they were poor. There's a landlord in Hue who owns a whole street and still mends his own sandals, and the reason is simple, he was hungry as a child, and no amount of money has ever felt completely safe to him since. Some wealthy people see spending as a loss rather than a pleasure, the number in the bank account feels like the achievement, and reducing it feels like losing. Some are also afraid that being generous will invite endless requests from other people. Some are just used to living simply and don't see a reason to change. And a few are just mean, though probably fewer than the stories suggest.

Tôi nghĩ thường là do thời điểm họ từng nghèo khó.

Band 7.5 bỏ hẳn khung này, mở đầu trực tiếp bằng mệnh đề trần trụi 'Often because of when they were poor', một cấu trúc chặt chẽ, quyết đoán hơn.

The 7.5 band fixes the equivalent sentence with a colon, "the explanation is simple: he was hungry as a child", a cleaner link between claim and explanation.Một câu nối bằng dấu phẩy sai gắn luận điểm với phần giải thích, khả dụng nhưng lỏng lẻo. Band 7.5 sửa câu tương ứng bằng dấu hai chấm, 'the explanation is simple: he was hungry as a child', tạo sự liên kết sạch sẽ hơn giữa luận điểm và phần giải thích.
    • LRSome wealthy people see spending as a loss rather than a pleasure, the number in the bank account feels like the achievement, and reducing it feels like losing."Feels like losing" repeats "feels like" from earlier in the sentence, slightly redundant. The 7.5 band tightens this to simply "hurts", a more economical, precise verb for the same idea.'Feels like losing' lặp lại 'feels like' đã xuất hiện trước đó trong câu, hơi thừa.
    Band 7.0

Adds the trailing hedge "I'd say" after the opening claim, and extends the closing sentence with "honestly" and "quite".Thêm cụm rào đón kéo dài 'I'd say' sau luận điểm mở đầu, và mở rộng câu kết bằng 'honestly' và 'quite'.

Often because of when they were poor, I'd say. There's a landlord in Hue who owns a whole street and still mends his own sandals, and the explanation is pretty simple, he was hungry as a child, and no amount of money has ever quite felt safe to him since. Some wealthy people see spending as loss rather than pleasure, the number in the account is basically the achievement, and reducing it genuinely hurts. Some fear that generosity invites requests without end. Some are simply used to a modest life and see no real reason to change it. And a few, though probably fewer than the stories suggest, are just mean. The saddest version, honestly, is the person who spent a whole life accumulating and never quite learned what it was for.

For some people, I'd say yes, clearly. A client of mine once described his second boat to me as a 'necessary upgrade', completely seriously, and I don't think any amount of money would have satisfied him, because each level of wealth just brings new neighbours to compare with. The desire for more is partly built in, humans measure themselves against the people nearest to them, and that group keeps moving as you get richer. But I think the word 'always' is too strong. Plenty of people do stop, decide they have enough, and change how they live, my own parents are a good example of that. The difference seems to be whether money is treated like a tool or like a score, and you can have enough of a tool, but a score never really has a top.

• LRThe difference seems to be whether money is treated like a tool or like a score, and you can have enough of a tool, but a score never really has a top.The comparison 'treated like a tool' versus its implied opposite is a common, accessible way of framing the distinction, rather than a more specific or varied description of the two mindsets. A 7.0 answer might add a concrete example to sharpen the contrast; a 7.5 answer might use a more figurative pairing. The plain comparative phrasing here is accurate and clear, matching the modest lexical range typical of Band 6.5.Sự so sánh 'treated like a tool' cùng ý đối lập ngầm của nó là một cách đóng khung sự khác biệt phổ biến, dễ hiểu, thay vì một mô tả cụ thể hoặc đa dạng hơn về hai lối tư duy này. Câu trả lời 7.0 có thể sẽ thêm một ví dụ cụ thể để làm sắc nét sự đối lập; câu trả lời 7.5 có thể dùng một cặp từ giàu hình ảnh hơn. Cách so sánh đơn giản ở đây chính xác, rõ ràng, phù hợp với độ rộng từ vựng vừa phải điển hình của band 6.5.

This plain but clear broadening move keeps the answer on-topic, typical of Band 7.0's adequate coherence.
