Band 6.5

The plot is narrated in short, plain sentences with a single, directly stated lesson at the end ('being too greedy brings trouble'), typical of Band 6.5.Cốt truyện được kể bằng những câu ngắn, đơn giản với một bài học duy nhất được nêu trực tiếp ở cuối ('quá tham lam sẽ gặp rắc rối'), đặc trưng của Band 6.5.

The story I want to talk about is called Cây Khế, or The Star Fruit Tree. I know it because my grandmother told it to me many times when I was small, in Hue, usually just before bed.

The main animal in the story is a giant bird, a magic one that can talk and fly very far across the sea.

The story is about two brothers. The older brother is greedy and keeps almost all of their parents' land, leaving the younger brother only a small house and one star fruit tree. Every year, the giant bird comes and eats the fruit from that tree. One day, the bird tells the younger brother it will carry him to an island full of gold, if he sews a small bag first. He goes, takes only a little gold, and comes home rich but still kind. When the older brother hears about this, he makes a huge bag for himself, but he is too greedy, and he falls into the sea on the way back.

I like this story because it teaches a simple lesson, that being too greedy brings trouble in the end. It's also a story my grandmother loved telling, so it always makes me think of her.

  • LR“a giant bird, a magic one that can talk and fly very far across the sea” — This description relies on simple, high-frequency words — "giant," "magic," "talk," "fly," "far" — building a clear picture without reaching for any more specific or literary vocabulary. It communicates the fantastical element of the folk tale plainly and accurately, which is all 6.5 requires, though a 7.0 answer might use a more specific verb than "fly very far," such as "soar across the ocean."
  • GRA“One day, the bird tells the younger brother it will carry him to an island full of gold, if he sews a small bag first.” — This is a basic conditional sentence, with the if-clause placed after the main clause rather than before it, correctly linking the reward, gold, to the condition, sewing a small bag first, as the original tale requires. It's accurate and functional, but it's the only piece of grammatical machinery in the sentence, matching the mostly-simple profile of 6.5 rather than combining the conditional with any additional subordination. It also faithfully reproduces a key plot mechanism from the folk tale, which the story's moral later depends on.Đây là một câu điều kiện cơ bản, với mệnh đề "if" được đặt sau mệnh đề chính thay vì trước nó, liên kết chính xác phần thưởng, vàng, với điều kiện, khâu một chiếc túi nhỏ trước, đúng như câu chuyện gốc yêu cầu.
  • FC“I like this story because it teaches a simple lesson, that being too greedy brings trouble in the end.” — This gives one directly stated reason for liking the story, its simple moral, without further elaboration on how that lesson applies to the speaker's own life or a more personal reflection. At 6.5, one clear reason delivered plainly is enough to close the answer coherently; a 7.5 answer would likely add a more specific or reflective observation about the moral's relevance.
Band 7.0

The answer develops the 'why I like it' section with a specific reflective reaction (being annoyed at crying over a talking pig) and a closing thought about sharing the book with future children, giving genuine personal development beyond the 6.5 answer's single-sentence reasons.Câu trả lời phát triển phần 'lý do tôi thích' bằng một phản ứng suy ngẫm cụ thể (bực mình vì khóc vì một chú lợn biết nói) và một suy nghĩ kết về việc chia sẻ cuốn sách với con cái sau này, mang lại sự phát triển cá nhân thực sự vượt ra ngoài những lý do một-câu của câu trả lời Band 6.5.

The story I'd talk about is Charlotte's Web, a children's novel by E.B. White that I first read in an English class in secondary school, and then again a few years later just because I wanted to.

The animals in it are mainly a pig called Wilbur and a spider called Charlotte, who lives in the barn above his pen, along with a rather greedy rat named Templeton and a flock of gossiping geese.

What happens is that Wilbur, the smallest pig in the litter, is due to be slaughtered once he's fully grown, which is normal on a farm, but Charlotte decides to save him. She does this in a rather unusual way — by spinning words like "Some Pig" and "Terrific" into her web above his pen, which convinces the farmer and everyone in town that Wilbur is a miracle and too special to kill. Wilbur ends up famous, safe, and slightly confused by all the attention, while Charlotte, who is old for a spider by that point, quietly dies not long after saving him.

Why I like this story is that it doesn't try to soften the sad parts to protect children, which I think is quite brave for a book aimed at that age group. Charlotte's death genuinely upset me the first time I read it, and I remember being annoyed that a book about a talking pig had made me cry. At the same time, it's a story about friendship and sacrifice that never feels preachy, because the animals behave like themselves rather than like little moral lessons in disguise. I've thought about buying it for my own children one day, partly to see whether it affects them the way it affected me.

  • LR“quietly dies not long after saving him” — "Quietly dies" is an understated way of describing a major plot event, deliberately avoiding dramatic vocabulary like "tragically" or "heartbreakingly" even though the content itself is emotionally heavy, a restraint that's itself a subtle, natural stylistic choice rather than an accidental plainness. This fits the flexible, natural-register vocabulary the 7.0 descriptor targets, where the word choice matches the understated tone of the storytelling rather than overselling the emotion.
  • GRA“She does this in a rather unusual way — by spinning words like "Some Pig" and "Terrific" into her web above his pen, which convinces the farmer and everyone in town that Wilbur is a miracle” — This sentence uses a dash to introduce an explanatory phrase, then attaches a relative clause, "which convinces...," describing the consequence of that action, combining two structures accurately across a fairly long sentence. It's the comfortable, accurate complex grammar the 7.0 descriptor describes, going beyond a simple statement like "Charlotte writes words in her web to save him." The specific quoted words from the book, "Some Pig," "Terrific," also ground the summary in real textual detail rather than a vague paraphrase.Câu này dùng dấu gạch ngang để mở đầu một cụm giải thích, sau đó gắn thêm một mệnh đề quan hệ, "which convinces...," mô tả hậu quả của hành động đó, kết hợp chính xác hai cấu trúc trong một câu khá dài. Đây chính là loại ngữ pháp phức thoải mái, chính xác mà tiêu chí band 7.0 mô tả, vượt xa một câu phát biểu đơn giản kiểu "Charlotte writes words in her web to save him."
  • FC“I remember being annoyed that a book about a talking pig had made me cry” — This reflective, slightly humorous personal reaction develops the "why I like it" point with a specific memory of the speaker's own emotional response, rather than a general statement that the book is sad. That's the kind of development the 7.0 fluency descriptor rewards over plain description; a 6.5 answer would likely just say "the story is sad." The self-aware humor in being "annoyed" at crying over a children's book also gives the answer a natural, conversational personality.
Band 7.5

The semicolon-linked contrast ('Most children's stories punish the villain; this one made the hero the villain') and the reflective opening line show grammatical range and evaluative sophistication typical of Band 7.5.Sự đối lập được nối bằng dấu chấm phẩy ('Hầu hết truyện thiếu nhi trừng phạt kẻ xấu; truyện này lại biến người hùng thành kẻ xấu') và câu mở đầu mang tính suy ngẫm cho thấy phạm vi ngữ pháp và sự tinh tế trong đánh giá, đặc trưng của Band 7.5.

The story I'd choose is 'Diary of a Cricket' — in Vietnamese, 'Dế Mèn phiêu lưu ký' — a children's novel by Tô Hoài that almost every Vietnamese person has read or had read to them. I know it from my mother, who read it to me in Hue when I was about seven, a chapter a night, doing the voices.

The animals in it are insects, mostly. The hero is Mèn, a young cricket who leaves home early and is very proud of his strong legs and shiny wings. There's Choắt, a thin, sickly cricket who lives next door; a mantis, a grasshopper, a water beetle, ants, and a frog who behaves like a small-town official. Every creature has a personality you recognise from your own street.

What happens is that Mèn, showing off, plays a trick that gets Choắt killed by a bird, and Choắt's dying words — asking him to stop being arrogant and think of others — change him. From there the book becomes a journey: Mèn travels across fields and rivers, is captured and made to fight, escapes, makes a loyal friend, and ends up trying to persuade all the insect nations to live in peace instead of at war. It's an adventure story and a story about growing up, and by the end the cricket who only cared about his own legs is trying to fix the world.

Why I like it is that it treated me like someone who could handle the truth. The death of Choắt is genuinely upsetting. Most children's stories punish the villain; this one made the hero the villain for a chapter and then let him become better, which is more honest about how people actually change. I also love the ordinariness of it — a whole epic that takes place in the grass beside a pond. I've bought it for my niece. She's not sure about the death yet either.

  • FC“Why I like it is that it treated me like someone who could handle the truth.” — This reflective opening statement frames the entire closing paragraph as an evaluation of the book's honesty rather than a further description of its plot, immediately signalling a more analytical stance than a plain "I like it because it's a good story." This is the kind of evaluative framing the 7.5 fluency descriptor asks for, setting up the specific comparison to other children's books that follows. It also personalizes the claim, "treated me," making the observation about the speaker's own experience as a child reader, not just the book's general qualities.Câu mở đầu mang tính suy ngẫm này định hình toàn bộ đoạn kết như một sự đánh giá về tính chân thực của cuốn sách thay vì mô tả thêm về cốt truyện, ngay lập tức báo hiệu một lập trường phân tích hơn so với một câu đơn giản như "I like it because it's a good story."
  • GRA“Most children's stories punish the villain; this one made the hero the villain for a chapter and then let him become better, which is more honest about how people actually change.” — This sentence uses a semicolon to join two independent contrastive clauses and then adds a relative clause evaluating the contrast, "which is more honest about how people actually change," combining three grammatical elements with full control and no errors. A 7.0 answer would more likely break this into two separate sentences joined by "but," which is simpler and safer; the semicolon construction here shows the wider, more literary range the 7.5 descriptor rewards. The content itself, a genuinely sophisticated literary observation about moral complexity, matches the ambition of the grammar carrying it.Câu này dùng dấu chấm phẩy để nối hai mệnh đề độc lập mang tính đối lập, sau đó thêm một mệnh đề quan hệ đánh giá sự đối lập đó, "which is more honest about how people actually change," kết hợp ba yếu tố ngữ pháp với sự kiểm soát hoàn toàn và không mắc lỗi.
  • LR“the cricket who only cared about his own legs is trying to fix the world” — This is a figurative, compact summary of a character arc, reducing an entire novel's transformation to one ironic contrast between vanity, "his own legs," and grand purpose, "fix the world," which is precise and idiomatic rather than a literal plot recap. A 7.0 answer would more likely state plainly that "the cricket changes and wants to help others," which is accurate but far less vivid. This kind of compressed, image-based phrasing is exactly the figurative lexical resource the 7.5 descriptor targets.Đây là một bản tóm tắt giàu hình ảnh, cô đọng về hành trình phát triển của một nhân vật, thu gọn toàn bộ sự chuyển biến trong cả cuốn tiểu thuyết thành một sự đối lập mỉa mai duy nhất giữa sự phù phiếm, "his own legs," và mục đích lớn lao, "fix the world," một cách chính xác và mang tính thành ngữ thay vì kể lại cốt truyện theo nghĩa đen. Một câu trả lời band 7.0 nhiều khả năng sẽ nói đơn giản rằng "the cricket changes and wants to help others," chính xác nhưng kém sinh động hơn nhiều. Kiểu diễn đạt cô đọng, giàu hình ảnh này chính xác là nguồn lực từ vựng mang tính hình tượng mà tiêu chí band 7.5 nhắm tới.

    So sánh Band 6.5 / 7.0 / 7.5 cho câu hỏi này
    Band 6.5

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion with simple listed examples, joined by plain connectors like "because" and "and", and closes with a flat restatement of the idea.Bản 6.5 đưa ra một quan điểm trực tiếp, cùng các ví dụ liệt kê đơn giản, nối bằng các từ nối đơn giản như "because" và "and", khép lại bằng một câu lặp lại quan điểm bằng phẳng.

Children's stories usually use animals like rabbits, bears, foxes and tigers, because each animal already has a personality people know, so the fox is clever and the tortoise is slow. I checked my niece's bookshelf and found a tiger, a water buffalo and even a cricket. Soft animals are popular for very young children, and dangerous animals are often the bad character. In Vietnam we also have animals like the buffalo and the crane. I think animals are used because they can represent people in an easy and simple way.

    • FC“I checked my niece's bookshelf and found a tiger, a water buffalo and even a cricket.” — This sentence just lists the findings with "and", one fact after another, rather than folding the list into a reflective or evaluative sentence. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would attach a comment to the list (such as what it shows) instead of leaving it as a flat report.Câu này chỉ liệt kê các phát hiện bằng "and", việc này nối tiếp việc kia, chứ không hòa danh sách đó vào một câu mang tính suy ngẫm hoặc đánh giá.
    • LR“an easy and simple way” — "Easy" and "simple" are near-synonyms placed side by side, which is a common 6.5 habit of doubling up plain words instead of choosing one precise term. A higher band would pick a single, more exact word or phrase for the same idea."Easy" và "simple" là hai từ gần nghĩa được đặt cạnh nhau, một thói quen thường thấy ở band 6.5, thích xếp chồng các từ đơn giản thay vì chọn một cách nói chính xác.
    • GRA“because each animal already has a personality people know” — This is a single, accurate because-clause with no further embedding, which is grammatically correct but structurally basic. A 7.5 answer would likely compress the same idea into a dash-linked phrase or a participial construction instead.Đây là một mệnh đề "because" duy nhất, chính xác, không có sự lồng ghép thêm, đúng ngữ pháp nhưng cấu trúc cơ bản.
    Band 7.0

The 7.0 answer opens with the spoken hedge "Honestly" and uses a which-clause ("which shows how wide the range actually is") to comment on its own example, giving a bit more reflection than a flat list.Bản 7.0 mở đầu bằng từ đệm khẩu ngữ "Honestly", và dùng một mệnh đề "which" ("which shows how wide the range actually is") để nhận xét về chính ví dụ của mình, thể hiện nhiều sự suy ngẫm hơn một danh sách liệt kê bằng phẳng.

Honestly, it's usually animals that already come with a built-in personality, so writers don't have to explain much — the fox is automatically clever, the tortoise is automatically slow. When I counted my niece's shelf, there were rabbits, bears, a tiger, a water buffalo and even a cricket, which shows how wide the range actually is. Soft, round animals tend to dominate for the youngest readers, while predators are cast as villains or, these days, as misunderstood characters. Vietnamese stories add their own regular cast, like the buffalo and the crane. I'd say the real reason is that animals let a story talk about human behaviour without pointing at anyone directly.

    • FC“Honestly, it's usually animals that already come with a built-in personality” — The spoken discourse marker "Honestly" opens the answer as a natural conversational hedge, something a 6.5 answer would rarely use and a 7.5 answer might replace with a more idiomatic opener still.
    • LR“a built-in personality” — "Built-in" is a mild, natural collocation rather than the plain phrasing a 6.5 answer would use, such as "a personality people know". It is not yet as distinctive as the figurative choices a 7.5 answer would reach for."Built-in" là một cách kết hợp từ tự nhiên ở mức độ vừa phải, chứ không phải cách diễn đạt đơn giản như "a personality people know" mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng.
    • GRA“there were rabbits, bears, a tiger, a water buffalo and even a cricket, which shows how wide the range actually is” — The list is followed by a non-restrictive which-clause that comments on the list itself, a moderately complex structure beyond the simple coordination a 6.5 answer would use. A 7.5 answer might compress this further into a single fronted or appositive construction.
    Band 7.5

The 7.5 answer opens with the vivid, compact image "a personality already attached" and closes with the evaluative summary "Animals, in short, let a story discuss people without ever naming one," a small closing flourish absent from the plainer bands.Bản 7.5 mở đầu bằng hình ảnh sinh động, cô đọng "a personality already attached", và khép lại bằng lời tổng kết mang tính đánh giá "Animals, in short, let a story discuss people without ever naming one.", một nét điểm xuyết nhỏ mà các band điểm thấp hơn không có.

Children's stories tend to reach for animals that arrive with a personality already attached, so the character work is essentially done before the plot even starts — the fox is sly, the tortoise plods, no explanation required. A quick census of my niece's shelf turned up rabbits, bears, a tiger, one water buffalo and, improbably, a cricket. Soft, round creatures dominate the youngest end of the market, while predators get cast as villains or, more recently, as misunderstood outsiders. Vietnamese folk tales add a homegrown cast of their own — the buffalo, the carp, the crane. What's conspicuously absent, though, is an animal simply being an animal; a story cow is invariably a person in a cow costume. Animals, in short, let a story discuss people without ever naming one.

    • FC“no explanation required” — This clipped, fragment-like closing to the opening sentence is an economical, idiomatic way of finishing a thought, something a 6.5 answer would instead spell out as a full clause. It shows a comfort with compressed grammar that lower bands avoid.Cách kết thúc dạng mảnh câu, cô đọng được gắn vào cuối câu mở đầu này là một cách kinh tế, mang tính thành ngữ để hoàn thành một ý, trong khi bản 6.5 sẽ viết đầy đủ thành một mệnh đề. Nó thể hiện sự làm chủ ngữ pháp nén chặt mà các band điểm thấp hơn thiếu.
    • LR“improbably, a cricket” — "Improbably" is a genuinely less-common word choice used as a sentence adverb, more precise and knowing than a plain phrase like "and even a cricket" at 6.5.
    • GRA“What's conspicuously absent, though, is an animal simply being an animal” — This is a fronted cleft construction ("What's ... is ...") that inverts normal word order for emphasis, a flexible structure well beyond the simple subject-verb-object sentences typical of 6.5 and the moderate complexity of 7.0.

    Band 6.5

The 6.5 answer states a direct opinion ("Yes, I think so") with one simple reason and one short example, using the plain connector "because" and closing with a flat "So" summary.Bản 6.5 đưa ra một quan điểm trực tiếp ("Yes, I think so"), cùng một lý do và một ví dụ ngắn gọn, nối bằng từ nối đơn giản "because", và khép lại bằng một câu tổng kết "So" bằng phẳng.

Yes, I think so, because children learn better when they can see real things. At my primary school in Hue, we kept silkworms in the classroom, and watching them eat and spin taught me more than the pictures in the book. Learning about animals also teaches children about nature and where food comes from. City children especially might never see an animal that is not a pet. So schools should teach it, but they should show the real facts and not only cute animals.

    • FC“So schools should teach it, but they should show the real facts and not only cute animals.” — The caveat about honesty is tacked on as its own short sentence at the very end rather than woven into the point it qualifies. A 7.5 answer would fold this nuance into the sentence that raises the idea instead of adding it afterward.Điều kiện hạn định về tính trung thực này được thêm vào như một câu riêng ở cuối, thay vì được dệt vào câu đưa ra ý đó ngay từ đầu. Bản 7.5 sẽ hòa sự tinh tế này vào câu nêu ý tưởng, thay vì thêm vào sau.
    • LR“teaches children about nature and where food comes from” — "Teaches...about" is plain, general phrasing rather than a more specific collocation such as "a doorway into". It gets the meaning across without any distinctive word choice."Teaches...about" là cách diễn đạt bình dị, chung chung, chứ không phải một cách kết hợp từ cụ thể hơn như "a doorway into".
    • GRA“because children learn better when they can see real things” — This is a single because-clause with a simple comparative ("learn better"), accurate but structurally basic. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely replace it with a dash-linked example or a more compressed construction.Đây là một mệnh đề "because" duy nhất với cấu trúc so sánh đơn giản ("learn better"), chính xác nhưng cấu trúc cơ bản.
    Band 7.0

The 7.0 answer uses the natural spoken connector "honestly" and a dash to attach an unexpected memory to its opinion, then closes with the mild qualifier "I'd just say" instead of a flat rule.Bản 7.0 mang lại cho quan điểm một chất suy ngẫm, khẩu ngữ bằng từ nối tự nhiên "honestly" cùng cách diễn đạt phủ định ("weren't...at all"), và khép lại bằng nhận xét hạn định nhẹ nhàng "I'd just say" thay vì một quy tắc bằng phẳng.

Yes, and honestly the best lessons I remember weren't from a textbook at all — my primary school in Hue kept trays of silkworms in the classroom for a whole term, and watching them actually eat and spin taught me far more than any diagram did. Beyond basic biology, animals are a natural way into bigger ideas like ecology, responsibility and where food really comes from, especially for city children who might otherwise only meet an animal as a pet or a meal. I'd just say the lessons need to stay honest, showing the ordinary animals as well as the cute ones.

    • FC“honestly the best lessons I remember weren't from a textbook at all” — The spoken connector "honestly" plus the negative framing ("weren't ... at all") gives the opinion a reflective, conversational quality that a 6.5 answer's plain "I think so" would not carry. It is not yet as compact as the idiomatic openers a 7.5 answer would use.Từ nối khẩu ngữ "honestly" cộng với khung diễn đạt phủ định ("weren't...at all") mang lại cho quan điểm một chất suy ngẫm, mang tính hội thoại, điều mà câu "I think so" bằng phẳng của bản 6.5 không có. Nó vẫn chưa tinh gọn bằng câu mở đầu cô đọng mà bản 7.5 sẽ dùng.
    • LR“a natural way into bigger ideas like ecology, responsibility and where food really comes from” — "A natural way into" is a moderately elevated collocation, more specific than the plain "teaches...about" a 6.5 answer would use, though still short of the more distinctive imagery a 7.5 answer might reach for."A natural way into" là một cách kết hợp từ được nâng cấp vừa phải, cụ thể hơn cách nói đơn giản "teaches...about" mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng, tuy nhiên chưa có hình ảnh nổi bật hơn mà bản 7.5 có thể hướng tới.
    • GRA“especially for city children who might otherwise only meet an animal as a pet or a meal” — The relative clause "who might otherwise only meet an animal as a pet or a meal" is embedded onto the noun it modifies, a moderately complex structure beyond the simple coordinated sentences of 6.5.Mệnh đề quan hệ "who might otherwise only meet an animal as a pet or a meal" được lồng vào danh từ mà nó bổ nghĩa, một cấu trúc phức tạp hơn một chút so với các câu song song đơn giản của bản 6.5.
    Band 7.5

The 7.5 answer uses the precise image "a living animal somewhere in the room rather than just a diagram of one" and the compact aphorism "a lesson stocked only with adorable animals misleads just as much as one with none at all" as an evaluative closing touch.Bản 7.5 dùng hình ảnh chính xác "a living animal somewhere in the room rather than just a diagram of one", và khép lại bằng câu châm ngôn cô đọng, mang tính đánh giá "a lesson stocked only with adorable animals misleads just as much as one with none at all".

Definitely, and preferably with a living animal somewhere in the room rather than just a diagram of one. My primary school in Hue kept trays of silkworms in the classroom for a term, and watching them eat and spin taught me more than any textbook page ever managed — children absorb how living things work by watching them actually live. Beyond biology, animals offer an easy doorway into weightier subjects: ecology, responsibility, and the fact that the world wasn't arranged for our convenience. City-raised children especially risk never meeting an animal that isn't a pet or a meal. The one caveat is honesty — a lesson stocked only with adorable animals misleads just as much as one with none at all.

    • FC“children absorb how living things work by watching them actually live” — This restates the point as a small, generalised principle rather than a plain personal claim, a slightly more analytical move than the direct "I think so" of a 6.5 answer. It reads as reflection rather than a bare fact.Câu này phát biểu lại quan điểm thành một nguyên tắc nhỏ, mang tính khái quát, thay vì một luận điểm cá nhân đơn giản, mang tính phân tích hơn một chút so với câu "I think so" trực tiếp của bản 6.5.

    • GRA“The one caveat is honesty — a lesson stocked only with adorable animals misleads just as much as one with none at all” — A short fronted noun phrase ("The one caveat is honesty") is followed by a dash-linked explanatory clause, a compact, flexible construction rather than a full separate sentence with "but" as a 6.5 answer would use.Một cụm danh từ đảo ngữ ngắn ("The one caveat is honesty") theo sau bởi một mệnh đề giải thích nối bằng dấu gạch ngang, một cấu trúc cô đọng, linh hoạt, thay vì viết thành một câu độc lập đầy đủ bằng "but" như bản 6.5.

The 6.5 answer states its position in three words ("It depends on the zoo") and supports it with one simple story told in short, coordinated sentences joined by "and".Bản 6.5 phát biểu lập trường của mình chỉ bằng ba từ ngắn "It depends on the zoo", và hỗ trợ bằng một câu chuyện đơn giản kể bằng những câu ngắn, nối song song.

It depends on the zoo. My niece and I went to a small zoo near Da Nang and saw a bear walking the same three steps again and again. She asked why it was walking wrong, and I did not know what to say. A good zoo, with enough space and good information, can teach children about animals in a real way. But a bad zoo just shows animals for people to look at. So I would take children to a good zoo, or better, let them see animals in nature.

A 7.5 answer would more likely close on an image or a pointed remark instead of a plain restatement.Kết luận này là một câu ngắn, độc lập, dẫn bằng "So", lặp lại trực tiếp quan điểm, thay vì hòa quan điểm vào câu chuyện trước đó.
    • LR“walking the same three steps again and again” — This is a plain, literal description built from repetition ("again and again") rather than a single precise verb. A higher band would likely reach for a more specific word like "pace" instead.Đây là một mô tả bình dị, mang tính nghĩa đen, tạo bằng cách lặp lại ("again and again"), chứ không phải một động từ duy nhất, chính xác.
    • GRA“She asked why it was walking wrong, and I did not know what to say.” — Two short clauses are joined with "and" in a simple coordinated sentence, accurate but structurally plain. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely turn this into a single sentence with an embedded clause instead. It really depends on the zoo, and my niece taught me that without meaning to. At a small zoo near Da Nang, she watched a bear pace the same three steps for ages and asked why it was 'walking wrong', which I honestly couldn't answer properly. Good zoos, with space, conservation work and honest information, can make animals feel real in a way no screen ever could, and children who've stood close to an elephant tend to actually care about elephants afterwards. Bad zoos just teach that animals exist for our entertainment. I'd take children to a good one, or to the wild if possible.

It depends entirely on the zoo, a lesson my niece handed me without meaning to. At a small zoo near Da Nang, she watched a bear pace the same three steps for ten minutes straight and asked why it was 'walking wrong' — a question I had no good answer for, though it taught her something the zoo certainly hadn't intended. A well-run zoo, with genuine space, conservation work and honest signage, can make an animal real in a way no screen manages, and a child who's stood near an elephant tends to go on caring about elephants. A poorly run one simply teaches that animals exist for our amusement. Take children to a good zoo, take them to the wild where you can, and skip anything that prompts that particular question.

Pets are increasingly popular, and honestly the whole idea of what counts as a pet has shifted. My parents used to keep a dog in the yard just to bark at strangers and eat leftovers — useful, but not exactly family. These days, a regular at the café near my flat brings her poodle along in a pram, which says a lot about the new model: small dogs and cats that live indoors, have names, vets and even social media accounts. My parents kept a dog in the yard purely to bark at strangers, fed on leftovers — the traditional Vietnamese pet: useful, outdoor, not quite family. Now a regular at the café near my flat wheels her poodle along in a pram, and that's the newer model taking over: small indoor dogs and cats with names, vets, outfits and, occasionally, their own social media accounts, especially among young urban people not yet raising children.

    • FC“Pets, in other words, have never been more popular” — The idiomatic discourse phrase "in other words" is used mid-sentence to restate the opening claim with more force, a rhetorical move a 6.5 or 7.0 answer's plainer closing would not attempt.Cụm từ diễn ngôn mang tính thành ngữ "in other words" được dùng ở giữa câu để lặp lại quan điểm mở đầu một cách mạnh mẽ hơn, một thủ pháp tu từ mà kết luận bằng phẳng hơn của bản 6.5 hoặc 7.0 sẽ không thử.
    • LR“the very idea of one has drifted from the yard to the bed” — "Drifted from the yard to the bed" is a genuinely idiomatic, image-based collocation standing in for a plain description like "pets are now kept indoors", showing a distinctly wider vocabulary range."Drifted from the yard to the bed" là một cách kết hợp từ mang tính thành ngữ thực sự, dựa trên hình ảnh, thay cho một mô tả đơn giản như "pets are now kept indoors", thể hiện vốn từ rõ ràng rộng hơn.
    • GRA“My parents kept a dog in the yard purely to bark at strangers, fed on leftovers — the traditional Vietnamese pet: useful, outdoor, not quite family.” — A dash introduces a compressed appositive fragment ("the traditional Vietnamese pet: useful, outdoor, not quite family") standing in for a full clause, a flexible construction well beyond the simple sentences of lower bands.Một dấu gạch ngang dẫn vào một mảnh câu đồng vị được nén lại ("the traditional Vietnamese pet: useful, outdoor, not quite family"), thay cho một mệnh đề đầy đủ, một cấu trúc linh hoạt vượt xa các câu đơn giản ở band điểm thấp hơn.
  5. 5. Should people who live in cities not have pets?

    Band 6.5

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion ("should be allowed to"), one plain example, and a short, blunt judgement ("That is not fair to the dog") before closing with a simple "So" rule.Bản 6.5 đưa ra một quan điểm trực tiếp ("should be allowed to"), một ví dụ đơn giản, và một phán đoán ngắn gọn, thẳng thắn ("That is not fair to the dog"), rồi mới khép lại bằng một quy tắc "So" đơn giản.

I think people in cities should be allowed to have pets, but they need to think carefully first. My upstairs neighbour keeps a husky in a small flat, in a city where it is very hot, and only walks it once a day. That is not fair to the dog. Cities can be fine for cats or small dogs if the owner has time. But a big, active animal in a small space is not a good match. So the real rule should not be about the city, but about choosing the right animal for the right life.

    • FC“That is not fair to the dog.” — This short, blunt sentence states a plain moral judgement directly with no hedging, typical of the direct style at this band. A 7.0 answer would more likely fold this judgement into the sentence describing the example instead of stating it separately.Câu ngắn, thẳng thắn này phát biểu thẳng một phán đoán đạo đức đơn giản mà không rào đón, phong cách trực tiếp điển hình ở band điểm này.
    • LR“a big, active animal in a small space is not a good match” — This is a plain descriptive phrase using ordinary adjectives ("big, active") without any distinctive collocation. A higher band would likely choose a more vivid or specific way of expressing the same mismatch.Đây là một cụm mô tả bình dị dùng tính từ thông thường ("big, active"), không có cách kết hợp từ nổi bật nào.
    • GRA“My upstairs neighbour keeps a husky in a small flat, in a city where it is very hot, and only walks it once a day.” — This sentence strings several facts together with commas and "and", grammatically correct but repetitive in structure. A 7.5 answer would likely compress this into a dash-linked phrase instead.Câu này xâu chuỗi nhiều sự việc bằng dấu phẩy và "and", đúng ngữ pháp nhưng cấu trúc hơi lặp lại.
    Band 7.0

The 7.0 answer softens its opinion with "honestly" and the collocation "a pet chosen for how it looks rather than what it needs", then uses a longer but-linked sentence to weigh both sides before its conclusion.Bản 7.0 làm mềm quan điểm của mình bằng "honestly", và dùng cách kết hợp từ mang tính thành ngữ vừa phải "a pet chosen for how it looks rather than what it needs" để nhận xét về ví dụ, rồi mới dùng một câu dài hơn, nối bằng "but" để cân nhắc cả hai mặt trước khi rút ra kết luận.

They should be allowed to, but honestly a lot of people don't think it through properly. My upstairs neighbour keeps a husky — a snow dog — in a thirty-square-metre flat in a city that's thirty-five degrees for half the year, walked just once a day, and it's clearly a pet chosen for how it looks rather than what it needs. Cities can suit cats and small dogs, especially with an owner who has time to walk them properly, but they can't really suit a large, active animal in a cramped space with nobody home all day. I'd say the rule shouldn't be about the city at all; it should be about matching the animal to the life.

    • FC“honestly a lot of people don't think it through properly” — The spoken hedge "honestly" introduces a generalising, reflective remark rather than the flat direct claim a 6.5 answer would open with, giving the opinion a more conversational feel.Từ đệm khẩu ngữ "honestly" dẫn vào một nhận xét khái quát, mang tính suy ngẫm, thay vì luận điểm trực tiếp, bằng phẳng mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng, mang lại cho câu này thêm một chất hội thoại.
    • LR“a pet chosen for how it looks rather than what it needs” — This rather-clause contrast is a moderately elevated way of expressing the idea a 6.5 answer states plainly as "not a good match", showing more precise, judgement-carrying vocabulary.Cấu trúc đối lập dùng "rather" này là một cách nâng cấp vừa phải, mang tính đánh giá để diễn đạt ý mà bản 6.5 diễn đạt đơn giản là "not a good match", thể hiện từ vựng mang tính phán đoán, chính xác hơn.
    • GRA“Cities can suit cats and small dogs, especially with an owner who has time to walk them properly, but they can't really suit a large, active animal in a cramped space with nobody home all day.” — This long compound-complex sentence joins two contrasted clauses with "but", each containing its own embedded detail, a more ambitious structure than the short separate sentences of a 6.5 answer.Câu ghép dài này, nối bằng "but", liên kết hai mệnh đề đối lập nhau, mỗi mệnh đề còn lồng thêm chi tiết riêng, một cấu trúc nhiều tham vọng hơn các câu ngắn tách biệt của bản 6.5.
    Band 7.5

The 7.5 answer uses the vivid verb "crammed" and the fronted construction "what they can't suit is..." for emphasis, ending with a pointed comparison rather than a flat rule.Bản 7.5 dùng động từ sinh động "crammed", và dùng cấu trúc đảo ngữ "what they can't suit is..."

They should be allowed to, though plenty of people clearly haven't thought it through. My upstairs neighbour keeps a husky — a snow dog, no less — crammed into a thirty-square-metre flat in a city that hits thirty-five degrees for half the year, walked once a day; it's a pet chosen for its looks, and the animal is the one paying for that choice. Cities can suit cats, small dogs, and owners with the time to walk them properly; what they can't suit is a large, restless animal in a cramped space with an owner out at work for ten hours. The rule, then, shouldn't really be about cities at all — it should be about matching the animal to the life on offer. A flat with a cat and an attentive owner beats a village yard with a dog on a chain.

    • GRA“what they can't suit is a large, restless animal in a cramped space with an owner out at work for ten hours” — This fronted cleft construction ("what they can't suit is...") inverts normal word order for emphasis, a flexible structure the simpler but-linked sentences of a 6.5 or 7.0 answer would not attempt.Cấu trúc câu chẻ đảo ngữ ("what they can't suit is...") này đảo ngược trật tự từ bình thường để nhấn mạnh, một cấu trúc linh hoạt hơn các câu đơn giản hơn nối bằng "but" của bản 6.5 hoặc 7.0, những phiên bản này đều không thử thủ pháp đó.

Pets can help older people in many ways. My grandmother has a cat, and it makes her get out of bed at six every morning and walk to the market to buy fish. It also gives her something to talk about with the neighbours. Doctors say pets can lower blood pressure and stop older people feeling lonely, and I believe this is true. But there are some problems too, like a big dog that could make someone fall over. Still, for most older people, a cat or small dog is good company.

    • FC“But there are some problems too, like a big dog that could make someone fall over.” — This additional point is introduced with the plain connector "But" and listed directly, a typical simple way of adding a second idea at this band. A 7.5 answer would more likely weave this concern into the surrounding sentence instead of stating it separately.Điểm bổ sung này được dẫn bằng từ nối đơn giản "But" và liệt kê trực tiếp, một cách thêm ý thứ hai đơn giản, điển hình ở band điểm này.
    • LR“Doctors say pets can lower blood pressure and stop older people feeling lonely” — The plain reporting verb "say" and simple verbs ("lower", "stop") deliver the idea with no elevated vocabulary. A higher band would likely use a more precise verb than "stop... feeling" for the same meaning.Động từ tường thuật đơn giản "say" cùng các động từ đơn giản ("lower", "stop") truyền tải ý này mà không có từ vựng nâng cấp nào.
    • GRA“it makes her get out of bed at six every morning and walk to the market to buy fish” — This is a simple causative structure ("makes her") with two coordinated verbs joined by "and", grammatically accurate but structurally basic. A 7.0 answer would likely turn this into a list of three effects instead of two coordinated verbs.Đây là một cấu trúc sai khiến đơn giản dùng "makes her", cộng thêm hai động từ song song nối bằng "and", đúng ngữ pháp nhưng cấu trúc cơ bản.
    Band 7.0

The 7.0 answer opens with the short spoken response "Quite a lot, actually" and lists three effects before summarising them in one dash-linked phrase, adding reflection the plainer 6.5 version lacks.Bản 7.0 mở đầu bằng câu đáp khẩu ngữ ngắn gọn "Quite a lot, actually", và liệt kê ba tác động trước khi tổng kết chúng bằng một cụm nối bằng dấu gạch ngang, mang lại nhiều sự suy ngẫm hơn phiên bản bằng phẳng hơn của bản 6.5.

Quite a lot, actually. My grandmother's cat gets her out of bed at six every morning, gives her a reason to walk to the market for fish, and gives her something to complain about to the neighbours — three things doctors recommend for people over eighty, delivered by one small animal. Pets generally give older people structure, gentle exercise and a living presence in a house that's often gone quiet, and studies suggesting lower blood pressure and less loneliness don't surprise me at all. There are limits, of course — a big dog can easily pull someone over — but for most older people, a cat or small dog is company that never asks how they're feeling and always wants dinner.

Quite substantially, and my grandmother is proof of it. Her cat hauls her out of bed at six every morning, gives her a reason to walk to the market for fish, and supplies a running subject to complain about to the neighbours — three things doctors recommend for the over-eighties, delivered by a single animal. Pets more broadly give older people structure, gentle exercise and a living presence in houses that have often gone quiet, and the studies pointing to lower blood pressure and less loneliness ring entirely true to me. There are real limits — a large dog can easily topple someone, and there's the nagging worry of who takes the animal in if its owner falls ill — but for most older people, a cat or small dog is company that never asks how you're feeling and always wants feeding.

Animals are intelligent, but in a different way from humans. I once saw a crow on the road drop a snail so a car would break it open, which shows it can plan and use tools.

A higher band would use more varied, specific verbs to describe what these animals actually do.Tính từ chung chung "clever" cùng trạng từ tăng cường "very" là từ vựng bình dị, thường ngày. Differently intelligent, I'd say, which isn't quite the same as equally. I once watched a crow on the Sơn Trà road drop a snail onto the road and wait for a car to crack it open — that's planning, tool use and a real grasp of cause and effect. Dolphins recognise each other by name-like calls, and elephants seem to mourn, so on their own problems, some animals clearly think as well as we do. What humans have that nothing else really does is language that carries ideas across generations, so each of us starts with everything the last generation learned. That's the difference that actually matters.

Differently intelligent, which isn't the same thing as equally. I once watched a crow on the Sơn Trà road drop a snail onto the tarmac and simply wait for a passing car to crack it open — a plan, complete with a tool and a working grasp of cause and effect. Dolphins address each other by something like names, octopuses solve puzzles, elephants appear to mourn their dead; on their own terms, plenty of animals think as well as we do. What sets humans apart is language capable of carrying ideas across generations, so each of us inherits everything the last generation figured out. That's why we build cities and crows don't, a difference in kind rather than degree. Animals, in the end, are far cleverer than we once assumed, and still nowhere near us on the things we happen to value.

    • FC“That's why we build cities and crows don't, a difference in kind rather than degree.” — This closing judgement appends a fragment after a comma instead of a full second clause, an economical, idiomatic construction beyond the plain "but not as smart as humans in every way" a 6.5 answer would use.Phán đoán khép lại này gắn một mảnh câu sau một dấu phẩy, thay vì một mệnh đề thứ hai đầy đủ, một cấu trúc kinh tế, mang tính thành ngữ hơn cách nói đơn giản "but not as smart as humans in every way" mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng.
    • LR“octopuses solve puzzles, elephants appear to mourn their dead” — This tricolon uses three precise, varied verbs ("address", "solve", "mourn") across its list rather than the one generic adjective "clever" a 6.5 answer relies on, showing a wider vocabulary range.Câu tam đoạn này dùng ba động từ chính xác, đa dạng ("address", "solve", "mourn") trong danh sách của nó, thay vì tính từ chung chung duy nhất "clever" mà bản 6.5 dựa vào, thể hiện vốn từ rộng hơn.
    • GRA“What sets humans apart is language capable of carrying ideas across generations” — This fronted cleft construction ("What sets humans apart is...") combined with a reduced relative ("capable of carrying..." instead of "which is capable of") is compact and flexible, well beyond the simple relative clauses of lower bands.Cấu trúc câu chẻ đảo ngữ ("What sets humans apart is...") kết hợp với một mệnh đề quan hệ được rút gọn ("capable of carrying..." thay vì "which is capable of"), vừa cô đọng vừa linh hoạt, vượt xa các mệnh đề quan hệ đơn giản ở band điểm thấp hơn.
  8. 8. Why have many people's attitudes towards animals changed in recent years?

    Band 6.5

The 6.5 answer lists several causes one by one, each introduced with "Also" or a new short sentence, and closes with a plain "So" summary of the pattern it sees.Bản 6.5 liệt kê từng nguyên nhân một, mỗi nguyên nhân được giới thiệu bằng "Also" hoặc một câu mới, và khép lại bằng một câu tổng kết "So" bằng phẳng về khuôn mẫu mà nó nhận thấy.

I think several things have caused this change. Near my old flat, a restaurant stopped selling dog meat because young customers stopped going there, and this happened without any new law. Also, people now have more money, so they do not need animals for work, and they can see them as friends instead of tools. Pets are now part of the family, with names and photos. Films and social media also show people how animals think and feel. So attitudes are changing fastest when an animal becomes a companion, not just something useful.

    • FC“So attitudes are changing fastest when an animal becomes a companion, not just something useful.” — This short concluding sentence, signalled with "So", restates the pattern plainly rather than developing it further. A 7.5 answer would more likely turn this into a balanced, parallel closing sentence instead.Câu kết ngắn, dẫn bằng "So" này chỉ phát biểu bằng phẳng khuôn mẫu này chứ không triển khai thêm.
    • LR“people now have more money” — This is plain, everyday vocabulary for an economic idea that a higher band would likely name with a more precise, abstract term.Đây là từ vựng bình dị, thường ngày để miêu tả một khái niệm kinh tế học, một bài trả lời band điểm cao hơn nhiều khả năng sẽ dùng một thuật ngữ chính xác, trừu tượng hơn để gọi tên nó.
    • GRA“a restaurant stopped selling dog meat because young customers stopped going there, and this happened without any new law” — Two clauses are joined with "and" in straightforward coordination, grammatically correct but structurally plain compared to the dash-linked constructions of higher bands.Hai mệnh đề được nối trực tiếp bằng "and", đúng ngữ pháp nhưng cấu trúc bình dị hơn so với cấu trúc nối bằng dấu gạch ngang mà các band điểm cao hơn sử dụng.
    Band 7.0

The 7.0 answer inserts the reflective aside "and I've actually seen one happen" and names the abstract cause "Prosperity" before explaining it, giving more shape to the list of reasons than the 6.5 version.Bản 7.0 chen vào cụm mang tính suy ngẫm "and I've actually seen one happen", và gọi tên nguyên nhân trừu tượng "Prosperity" trước khi giải thích, có cấu trúc rõ ràng hơn danh sách nguyên nhân của bản 6.5.

A few things at once, I think, and I've actually seen one happen. A restaurant near my old flat quietly took dog meat off the menu because younger customers had simply stopped coming, and that shift happened in about a decade without a single new law. Prosperity plays a part too — people who no longer depend on animals for work or survival can afford to see them as individuals rather than tools. Pets have moved into the family, so they now have names and faces, and documentaries and social media have shown people what farms and wild animals' minds actually look like. Attitudes seem to change fastest once an animal becomes a companion rather than a resource.

    • FC“I think, and I've actually seen one happen” — This spoken reflective aside is inserted mid-sentence to signal personal involvement, a natural conversational move a 6.5 answer's flatter opening would not include.Cụm chen vào mang tính suy ngẫm này được đặt giữa câu, báo hiệu một sự tham gia mang tính cá nhân, một động tác hội thoại tự nhiên mà câu mở đầu bằng phẳng hơn của bản 6.5 không có.
    • LR“Prosperity plays a part too” — "Prosperity" is a more abstract, precise noun replacing the plain phrase "people now have more money" a 6.5 answer would use for the same idea."Prosperity" là một danh từ trừu tượng, chính xác hơn, thay cho cách nói đơn giản "people now have more money" mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng để diễn đạt cùng ý đó.
    • GRA“people who no longer depend on animals for work or survival can afford to see them as individuals rather than tools” — A relative clause ("who no longer depend on animals for work or survival") governs the subject of the main verb, a moderately complex structure beyond the simple coordination of a 6.5 answer.Một mệnh đề quan hệ ("who no longer depend on animals for work or survival") chi phối chủ ngữ của động từ chính, một cấu trúc phức tạp hơn một chút so với cấu trúc song song đơn giản của bản 6.5.
    Band 7.5

The 7.5 answer uses the extended image "thrown open the doors of farms and the minds of wild animals" and closes with a balanced, parallel sentence contrasting "a resource" with "a companion".Bản 7.5 dùng hình ảnh mở rộng "thrown open the doors of farms and the minds of wild animals", và khép lại bằng một câu cân bằng đối lập "a resource" với "a companion".

Several things at once, I'd say, and I've watched one of them unfold. A restaurant near my old flat quietly dropped dog meat from the menu once younger customers simply stopped showing up — an attitude shift achieved in a decade with no new law behind it at all. Prosperity is part of the story: people no longer dependent on animals for work or survival can afford to see them as individuals rather than resources. Pets have migrated into the family proper, acquiring names and faces along the way, while documentaries and social media have thrown open the doors of farms and the minds of wild animals for anyone to see. A generation raised on films with animal heroes, too, finds cruelty harder to shrug off. Attitudes shift fastest once an animal stops being a resource and becomes a companion.

    • FC“Attitudes shift fastest once an animal stops being a resource and becomes a companion.” — This closing sentence uses a balanced, parallel contrast as a rhetorical flourish, more idiomatic than the plainer "So attitudes are changing fastest when..." a 6.5 answer would use to make the same point.Câu kết này dùng một sự đối lập cân bằng, song song làm điểm nhấn tu từ, mang tính thành ngữ hơn câu "So attitudes are changing fastest when..." bằng phẳng hơn mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng để nêu cùng quan điểm đó.
    • LR“documentaries and social media have thrown open the doors of farms and the minds of wild animals” — "Thrown open the doors" is a vivid extended metaphor standing in for a literal description like "have shown people", demonstrating a distinctly wider and more deliberate vocabulary range."Thrown open the doors" là một phép ẩn dụ mở rộng sinh động, thay cho một mô tả mang tính nghĩa đen như "have shown people", thể hiện vốn từ rõ ràng rộng hơn, có chủ đích hơn.
    • GRA“Pets have migrated into the family proper, acquiring names and faces along the way” — A main clause is followed by a participial phrase ("acquiring names and faces along the way") instead of a second finite clause joined by "and", a more compact grammatical choice than lower bands would make.Một mệnh đề chính theo sau bởi một cụm phân từ ("acquiring names and faces along the way") thay vì mệnh đề xác định thứ hai nối bằng "and", một lựa chọn ngữ pháp cô đọng hơn so với các band điểm thấp hơn.

    Band 6.5

The 6.5 answer gives a direct position ("not exactly the same rights ... but real rights") supported by one simple example and closes with a plain qualifying sentence using "but".Bản 6.5 đưa ra một lập trường trực tiếp ("not exactly the same rights ... but real rights"), kèm theo một ví dụ đơn giản, khép lại bằng một câu hạn định bằng phẳng dẫn bằng "but".

I do not think animals should have exactly the same rights as humans, but they deserve some real rights. For example, the right not to suffer for no reason, and to live in a natural way. Humans have rights with duties too, like voting, and a buffalo cannot do this. But we still use animals, like the buffalo that pulls the plough near Tam Kỳ, and most people eat meat. I do not think this is always wrong, but it should be done in a kind way.

    • FC“But we still use animals, like the buffalo that pulls the plough near Tam Kỳ, and most people eat meat.” — This is a plain listing sentence joined with "and", presenting facts directly with little hedging or reflection. A 7.0 answer would likely add a spoken aside to soften or comment on the same list.Đây là một câu liệt kê đơn giản nối bằng "and", đưa ra sự thật trực tiếp, hầu như không có rào đón hay suy ngẫm nào.
    • LR“in a kind way” — This is a simple, generic adjective phrase rather than a more precise term for the idea, which a higher band would likely name more specifically.Đây là một cụm tính từ đơn giản, chung chung, chứ không phải một thuật ngữ chính xác hơn, một bài trả lời band điểm cao hơn nhiều khả năng sẽ gọi tên ý này cụ thể hơn.
    • GRA“the right not to suffer for no reason, and to live in a natural way” — Two infinitive phrases are joined by "and" in straightforward parallel listing, accurate but structurally plain compared to higher bands.
    Band 7.0

The 7.0 answer hedges its position with "I'd say" and uses the natural collocation "eat meat without thinking twice", adding a mildly reflective, spoken texture to the same basic argument as the 6.5 answer.Bản 7.0 làm mềm lập trường của mình bằng "I'd say", và dùng cách kết hợp từ tự nhiên "eat meat without thinking twice", mang lại chất suy ngẫm nhẹ nhàng, khẩu ngữ cho cùng luận điểm cơ bản đó.

Not the same rights as humans, but real ones, I'd say. There's a cricket story I love that basically argues even insects deserve not to be tormented, and I think that's about the right line — a right not to suffer needlessly, to live as their nature intends, to be treated with some basic respect. The same rights as humans doesn't quite make sense, since rights come bundled with duties, and a buffalo can't exactly vote or stand trial. Where it gets uncomfortable is how we actually use animals: the buffalo still pulls the plough near Tam Kỳ, and most of us eat meat without thinking twice.

    • FC“but real ones, I'd say” — This brief spoken hedge attached to the opening claim softens a direct statement in a natural conversational way, something the flatter opening of a 6.5 answer would not include.Từ đệm khẩu ngữ ngắn này được gắn vào luận điểm mở đầu, làm mềm một phát biểu trực tiếp theo cách hội thoại tự nhiên, điều mà câu mở đầu bằng phẳng hơn của bản 6.5 không có.
    • LR“eat meat without thinking twice” — This is a natural idiomatic collocation rather than the plain statement "most people eat meat" a 6.5 answer would use, adding a touch of judgement through word choice alone.Đây là một cách kết hợp từ tự nhiên, mang tính thành ngữ, thay vì phát biểu bằng phẳng "most people eat meat" mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng, thêm vào một chút phán đoán chỉ qua việc chọn từ.
    • GRA“rights come bundled with duties, and a buffalo can't exactly vote or stand trial” — The metaphorical verb "bundled with" is followed by a coordinated clause, a slightly more textured construction than the plain listing of a 6.5 answer.Động từ mang tính ẩn dụ "bundled with" theo sau bởi một mệnh đề song song, một cấu trúc có chất hơn một chút so với câu liệt kê đơn giản của bản 6.5.
    Band 7.5

The 7.5 answer treats the quoted phrase 'The same rights as humans' as its own grammatical subject and closes with the compact, ellipted line "the manner of it very often is," a more economical evaluative touch than the plainer bands.Bản 7.5 xử lý cụm từ được trích dẫn "The same rights as humans" như chủ ngữ ngữ pháp của chính nó, và khép lại bằng câu cô đọng, tỉnh lược "the manner of it very often is", mang lại điểm nhấn đánh giá kinh tế hơn các band điểm thấp hơn.

Not the same rights as humans, but real ones nonetheless. There's a cricket story I'm fond of that argues, in the end, that even an insect deserves not to be tormented, and I think that's roughly the right line to draw — a right not to suffer needlessly, to live as its nature intends, to be treated with some basic dignity. 'The same rights as humans' doesn't really hold together, since rights arrive bundled with duties, and a buffalo can hardly vote or stand trial. Where things get uncomfortable is in how we actually use animals: the buffalo still pulls the plough near Tam Kỳ, and most of us eat meat without a second thought. None of that strikes me as automatically wrong, but the manner of it very often is.

    • FC“None of that strikes me as automatically wrong, but the manner of it very often is.” — This closing sentence ends with an ellipted clause ("but the manner of it very often is [wrong]"), a compact, idiomatic construction more economical than the fuller closing sentence a 6.5 answer would spell out in full.Câu kết này kết thúc bằng một mệnh đề tỉnh lược ("but the manner of it very often is [wrong]"), một cấu trúc cô đọng, mang tính thành ngữ, kinh tế hơn câu kết mà bản 6.5 sẽ viết đầy đủ.
    • LR“a buffalo can hardly vote or stand trial” — "Can hardly" is a precise, slightly wry collocation, more idiomatic than the flat negative "cannot do this" a 6.5 answer would use for the same point."Can hardly" là một cách kết hợp từ chính xác, hơi mang chút dí dỏm, mang tính thành ngữ hơn phủ định thẳng thắn "cannot do this" mà bản 6.5 sẽ dùng.
    • GRA“'The same rights as humans' doesn't really hold together, since rights arrive bundled with duties” — This sentence treats a quoted phrase as its own grammatical subject, a flexible, compact construction well beyond the simple sentences typical of lower bands.Câu này xử lý một cụm từ được trích dẫn như chủ ngữ ngữ pháp của chính nó, một cấu trúc linh hoạt, cô đọng, vượt xa các câu đơn giản điển hình ở band điểm thấp hơn.
