The answer is coherent and correct but relies on a formulaic opening and the general intensifier 'really exciting', keeping the vocabulary plain throughout.回答连贯、语法正确,但主要依靠公式化的开头以及笼统的强调词'really exciting'(真的很精彩),整体词汇始终比较朴素。

The exciting book I want to talk about is called The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides. My younger sister Thao, who studies in Ho Chi Minh City, told me about it during a Zalo video call. She said she finished it in two days, so I got curious and bought the ebook.

The story is about a woman named Alicia who suddenly stops speaking after a terrible event in her life. A psychotherapist becomes interested in her case and tries to find out what really happened. The whole book slowly reveals small clues, and you keep guessing what the truth is.

I found this book really exciting because I honestly could not guess the ending. Every time I thought I understood the story, something new appeared. I read most of it at night in my apartment, and a few times I stayed up much later than I planned because I just wanted to know what happened next.

After I finished it, I felt a bit shocked, but also satisfied, because the ending really surprised me. I even called Thao again just to talk about it. Now I want to read more books like this one.

  • FCThe exciting book I want to talk about is called The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides. The opening sentence lifts its structure almost directly from the cue-card prompt ('The exciting book I want to talk about is...'), which is a safe, formulaic way to start that guarantees relevance but adds no development of its own. This kind of low-risk, template-style opening is common at Band 6.5, where the priority is staying clearly on topic rather than crafting an original way into the answer.开篇句几乎直接照搬了提示卡题目的结构('The exciting book I want to talk about is...'),这是一种安全、套路化的开头方式,能保证紧扣主题,却没有增添任何自身的展开内容。这种低风险、模板式的开头在6.5分很常见,那里的首要任务是清晰地紧扣主题,而不是打造一个独特的切入方式。
  • LRreally exciting'Really exciting' simply reuses the word 'exciting' from the cue-card question itself rather than paraphrasing it with an alternative like 'gripping' or 'unputdownable', which a higher-band answer would be expected to reach for. Recycling the prompt's own vocabulary instead of varying it is a clear marker of the plain, unparaphrased word choice Band 6.5 lexical resource describes.'Really exciting' 只是简单地重复了提示卡题目本身用到的 'exciting' 这个词,而不是用像 'gripping' 或 'unputdownable' 这样的替代词加以改写——这是更高分段答案被期望做到的。直接沿用题目原词而不加以变化,正是6.5分词汇资源所描述的那种平实、未经改写的选词方式的明显标志。
  • GRAI found this book really exciting because I honestly could not guess the ending. The sentence links two ideas with a single 'because' clause — finding the book exciting, and not being able to guess the ending — which is accurate but represents only one layer of subordination. A 7.0 answer covering the same idea would likely add a further clause explaining how the guessing worked, so this single-clause 'because' structure sits at the modest end of what Band 6.5 grammar is calibrated to expect.这句话用一个单一的 "because" 分句连接了两个想法——觉得这本书很精彩,以及猜不到结局——这样的表达准确,但只体现了一层从属结构。7.0分的答案涉及同一想法时很可能会再加一个分句,解释这种"猜测"是怎么进行的,因此这里单层的 "because" 结构,处于6.5分语法水平所预期范围中较为基础的一端。
7.0 分

The fronted structure 'What made it exciting for me was...' and the idiomatic 'give it a shot' give the answer clearer development and slightly more flexible vocabulary than 6.5, while remaining more restrained than 7.5.前置强调结构'What made it exciting for me was...'(真正让我觉得精彩的是……)以及习语'give it a shot'(试一试),让回答比6.5级展开得更清晰、词汇也更灵活一些,但仍比7.5级更为克制。

One exciting book I really enjoyed is And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie. I picked it up around eight months ago after a friend recommended it during a book swap at a small cafe near my office, insisting it was the best mystery she'd ever read. I don't usually go for classic novels, but her description was convincing enough that I decided to give it a shot.

The story follows ten strangers who are invited to an isolated island off the English coast, each for a different reason, only to discover that someone is killing them off one by one, apparently as punishment for crimes they got away with in the past. As the number of guests shrinks, the remaining characters start turning on each other, unsure who among them is actually responsible.

What made it exciting for me was how carefully the clues were placed throughout the book. I kept changing my mind about who the killer was almost every few chapters, and I was genuinely wrong until the very end. I read most of it late at night in bed, and more than once I told myself I'd stop after one more chapter, then ended up reading three more anyway.

By the time I finished, I felt a mix of satisfaction and slight disbelief at how the whole plan had been carried out. It's stayed with me since then, and I've actually recommended it to a couple of colleagues at work. It also made me want to read more classic mystery novels, which isn't something I ever expected to say before this.

我真心很喜欢的一本精彩小说是阿加莎·克里斯蒂(Agatha Christie)的《无人生还》(And Then There Were None)。

  • FCWhat made it exciting for me was how carefully the clues were placed throughout the book. The fronted structure 'What made it exciting for me was...' shifts from summarising the plot to explaining the personal reaction, doing more coherence work than a flat 'I found the clues exciting'. This kind of deliberate topic-fronting to signal a shift from narrative to evaluation is the developed linking Band 7.0 targets, more sophisticated than the simple chronological retelling a 6.5 answer would likely stick to throughout. It sets up the specific detail that follows — constantly changing suspicions — as the real answer to what made the book exciting.前置结构‘What made it exciting for me was...’把叙述从概括情节转向解释个人反应,比一句平淡的‘I found the clues exciting’做了更多连贯性方面的工作。这种刻意把话题提前、以此标示从叙事转向评价的手法,正是 Band 7.0 所瞄准的那种有展开的衔接方式,比 Band 6.5 答案很可能通篇采用的简单按时间顺序复述要老练得多。它也为后面那个具体细节——不断变化的嫌疑——做了铺垫,把它设置成了“这本书为什么令人兴奋”的真正答案。
  • LRgive it a shot'Give it a shot' is an everyday idiomatic phrase meaning to try something, used in place of the plainer verb 'try', adding a natural, conversational colour to the decision to read a classic novel. This is a single, well-controlled idiom among otherwise ordinary vocabulary, exactly the flexible-but-not-showy phrase Band 7.0 rewards — more natural than a flat 6.5 answer, but without the denser idiom use a 7.5 response might show. It captures the slightly reluctant, persuaded-by-a-friend tone of the decision described just before it.‘Give it a shot’是一个日常习语,意思是尝试做某事,用它来代替更平实的动词‘try’,给“决定读一本经典小说”这件事增添了一种自然的口语色彩。这是在其余普通词汇当中,一个被驾驭得很好的单一习语,正是 Band 7.0 所奖励的那种灵活却不炫技的表达——比 Band 6.5 平淡的答案更自然,但又没有 Band 7.5 答案可能展现出的那种更密集的习语使用。它精准地捕捉到了紧接其前所描述的那个决定——被朋友说服、带着点不情愿——的语气。
  • GRAapparently as punishment for crimes they got away with in the pastA reduced participial-style phrase ('apparently as punishment for...') is attached onto the main clause summarising the plot, compressing what could be a separate clause ('it seemed to be punishment') into a shorter, more economical structure. This kind of efficient phrase attachment is part of the comfortable mix of complex structures Band 7.0 targets, allowing a long plot summary to stay fluent rather than fragmenting into short simple sentences. It adds necessary plot detail (the killer's motive) without breaking the flow of the summary.一个精简的分词式短语(‘apparently as punishment for...’)被附加在概括情节的主句上,把本可以是一个独立分句的内容(‘it seemed to be punishment’)压缩成了一个更短、更精简的结构。这种高效的短语附加方式,是 Band 7.0 所瞄准的那种自如混用复杂结构的一部分,让一段较长的情节概括能够保持流畅,而不是碎成一个个短小的简单句。它添加了必要的情节细节(凶手的动机),同时没有打断概括的流畅度。
7.5 分

The natural collocation 'caught up in all the problem-solving' and the vivid closing image of forgetting to check the phone show the idiomatic vocabulary and reflective development typical of Band 7.5.自然的搭配'caught up in all the problem-solving'(完全沉浸在解谜推理之中)以及结尾处忘记看手机这个生动的画面,展现出Band 7.5典型的习语化词汇和反思性发展。

One exciting book I really enjoyed is called "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir. I picked it up about six months ago, after a friend from my weekend running group mentioned it during a coffee chat at The Roastery café. I usually read design articles and short stories, but she described the book as a mix of science, survival, and unexpected friendship, so I decided to give it a try.

The story is about a man named Ryland Grace who wakes up alone on a spaceship, with no memory of who he is or why he's there. Gradually, he discovers that he's actually on a mission to save humanity from an energy crisis caused by a mysterious microorganism attacking the sun. Most of the book takes place in space, and as Grace pieces together his memories, he realizes the fate of the Earth depends entirely on him. There are lots of tense moments-like when he has to improvise repairs with only a handful of strange tools, or when he suddenly encounters an alien life form with a personality, which is both scary and funny at the same time.

Honestly, I found the book really gripping. Even though I'm not a huge science fiction fan, I got completely caught up in all the problem-solving and clever twists. The story moves quickly, and some of the scenes made me laugh out loud while others had me worried things wouldn't work out. It was the kind of book that made me forget to check my phone or even notice how much time had passed. I finished it in just a few evenings, and I still think about some of the ideas, especially about working together across differences. Overall, I'd say it's the most exciting book I've read in years.

  • GRAas Grace pieces together his memories, he realizes the fate of the Earth depends entirely on himA subordinate time clause ('as Grace pieces together his memories') is layered before the main clause, which itself contains an embedded that-clause ('the fate of the Earth depends...') — two levels of subordination combined accurately in one sentence. This kind of varied, multi-layered complexity, sustained without grammatical slips across a fairly long sentence, is what separates Band 7.5 grammar from the single-clause complexity typical of 7.0. It also efficiently compresses a key plot turn (memory recovery leading to realisation of the stakes) into one economical sentence.一个从属时间从句('as Grace pieces together his memories')被前置在主句之前,而主句本身又包含一个嵌套的that从句('the fate of the Earth depends...')——两层从属结构在一句话里被准确地组合起来。这种多样、多层次的复杂度,在相当长的一句话里始终保持毫无语法失误,正是7.5分语法区别于7.0分那种单层复杂度的地方。它还高效地把一个关键的情节转折(记忆恢复带来对危机的认知)压缩进了一句精炼的话里。
  • LRI got completely caught up in all the problem-solving and clever twists'Caught up in' is a precise, idiomatic collocation describing complete absorption, used instead of a plainer phrase like 'very interested in', and it's intensified naturally with 'completely' rather than a repeated adjective. This kind of idiomatic precision, chosen to match the exact feeling being described rather than a generic substitute, is characteristic of Band 7.5 lexical resource. It also connects directly to the following sentence about losing track of time, reinforcing the same idea of total absorption in a consistent, non-repetitive way.'Caught up in'是一个精确、习语化的固定搭配,用来描述完全沉浸的状态,代替了'very interested in'这样平实的说法,并且用'completely'自然地加以强化,而不是重复使用一个形容词。这种精确的习语化用法——为了精准匹配所描述的感受而选用,而不是一个泛泛的替代词——正是7.5分词汇资源的特征。它还与下一句关于'忘记了时间'的内容直接相连,以一种一致、不重复的方式强化了'完全沉浸'这同一个意思。
  • FCIt was the kind of book that made me forget to check my phone or even notice how much time had passed. The answer closes with a vivid, reflective image of total absorption rather than a plain statement of enjoyment, the evaluative development typical of Band 7.5.回答以一个生动、反思性的'完全沉浸'画面收尾,而不是平淡地陈述喜欢,这正是Band 7.5评价性发展的典型特征。

    6.5 分

This 6.5 answer gives a direct, plainly connected account of reading habits, leaning on simple linking words like 'because' and 'so' and repeating basic vocabulary such as 'self-help books'.这个6.5分的回答直接、平实地连接叙述了阅读习惯,依赖'because'和'so'这类简单的连接词,并重复使用基础词汇,比如'self-help books'。

I think people mostly read short things now, like news articles and social media posts, because everyone is busy and has less time. For books, self-help books are very popular, and also romance novels and manga. As for me, I usually read design blogs and sometimes a graphic novel in the evening. This is because I look at screens all day at work, so long books feel tiring. Older people still like poetry too.

    我觉得人们现在大多读一些简短的东西,比如新闻文章和社交媒体帖子,因为大家都很忙,时间也少。至于书籍,励志类的书很受欢迎,还有爱情小说和漫画。至于我自己,我通常读设计类博客,晚上有时候也会看一本漫画小说。这是因为我上班时整天都盯着屏幕,所以长篇的书让我觉得累。老年人还是比较喜欢诗歌。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCAs for me,This is a simple topic-shift connector used to move from general reading habits to the speaker's own habit. A 6.5 answer strings ideas together with this kind of plain signposting, whereas a higher band would use a more varied cohesive device or embed the shift inside a longer sentence.这是一个简单的话题转折连接词,用来从泛泛的阅读习惯转到说话者自己的习惯。6.5分的回答用这种平实的信号引导把各个想法串起来,而更高分段则会用更多样化的连贯手段,或者把这个转折嵌入到一个更长的句子里。
    • LRself-help booksThe word 'books' is repeated three times across the passage instead of being varied, showing the narrow, common vocabulary typical of 6.5. A 7.5 answer would likely replace this with a more precise collocation like 'personal-development titles' to avoid repetition.单词'books'在这段文字中重复出现了三次,而不是有所变化,这体现出6.5分典型的、较窄的常见词汇范围。7.5分的回答很可能会用更精准的搭配,比如'personal-development titles'来取代它,避免重复。
    • GRAso long books feel tiringThis is a short main clause joined only with 'so', a basic coordinating structure with no subordination or embedding. A higher band would likely compress this into a participial or conditional structure instead of a flat cause-effect statement.这是一个只用'so'连接的简短主句,是一种没有从属或嵌套的基本并列结构。更高分段可能会把这压缩成一个分词或条件结构,而不是一个平铺直叙的因果陈述。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer adds a reflective spoken opener ('Honestly, I'd say') and a moderately complex 'since' clause, while still keeping the overall structure close to plain reporting.7.0分的回答加入了一个反思性的口语开头('Honestly, I'd say'),以及一个适度复杂的'since'从句,同时整体结构依然接近平实的转述。

Honestly, I'd say short-form content like news articles and social captions gets read the most these days, simply because people's attention is pulled in so many directions. When it comes to actual books, though, self-help titles and romance novels sell really well, especially among younger readers. As for me, I mostly stick to design blogs and the occasional graphic novel in the evening, since staring at a screen all day for work makes anything longer feel like extra effort. To be fair, poetry still has a loyal following too, mainly among older readers who grew up studying it.

    • FCHonestly, I'd sayThis spoken discourse marker signals a natural, reflective stance rather than a flat statement of fact. A 6.5 answer would more likely open with a plainer 'I think', while a 7.5 answer might drop the marker altogether in favour of more compact phrasing.这个口语化的话语标记,标示出一种自然、反思性的立场,而不是一个平铺直叙的事实陈述。6.5分的回答更可能会用更平淡的'I think'开头,而7.5分的回答可能会完全去掉这个标记,转而使用更紧凑的措辞。
    • LRpeople's attention is pulled in so many directionsThis is a moderately natural collocation ('attention is pulled') rather than the plainest possible wording like 'people are busy'. A 6.5 answer would likely just say people are busy, while a 7.5 answer might reach for an even more vivid image.这是一个适度自然的搭配('attention is pulled'),而不是最平实的措辞,比如'people are busy'。6.5分的回答很可能只会说人们很忙,而7.5分的回答可能会用一个更生动的意象。
    • GRAsince staring at a screen all day for work makes anything longer feel like extra effortThis combines a 'since' subordinate clause with a non-finite '-ing' phrase, which is more complex than a simple 'so' clause. A 6.5 answer would likely split this into two short sentences instead.这把一个'since'从句和一个非限定的'-ing'短语结合在一起,比一个简单的'so'从句更复杂。6.5分的回答很可能会把这拆成两个短句。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens with a vivid list set off by dashes, uses the less common collocation 'sell briskly', and closes with an evaluative remark about reading habits that 'calcify with age'.7.5分的回答以一个用破折号隔开的生动列表开头,用了较少见的搭配'sell briskly',并以一句关于阅读习惯'calcify with age'(随年龄固化)的评价性评论收尾。

Short-form content probably wins out these days — news snippets, social captions, that sort of thing — simply because everyone's attention is stretched so thin across a dozen apps at once. Self-help and personal-development titles do sell briskly here, alongside romance novels and manga translations that have quite a devoted, almost fanatical teenage following. Having stared at screens all day for work, I tend to unwind with design blogs or, occasionally, a graphic novel, since anything text-heavy feels like a second shift by evening. Poetry, interestingly, still holds a loyal readership among older generations who grew up reciting it at school, which says something about how reading habits calcify with age.

    • FCPoetry, interestingly, still holds a loyal readershipThe evaluative aside 'interestingly' is embedded mid-sentence rather than tacked on as a separate comment, giving smoother, more sophisticated cohesion than a lower band's simple listing of ideas. A 6.5 answer would more likely just add 'Also,' as a new sentence.评价性的插入语'interestingly'被嵌入在句子中段,而不是作为一个单独的评论附加上去,这比较低分段简单的列举式想法展现出更流畅、更老到的连贯性。6.5分的回答更可能只会加一句'Also,'作为新句子。
    • LRsell brisklyThis is a less common, more precise collocation than the plainer 'are very popular' or 'sell well'. A 6.5 answer would use the plainest option, while this phrase shows a wider and more natural lexical range typical of 7.5.这是一个比较低分段中更平淡的'are very popular'或'sell well'更少见、更精准的搭配。6.5分的回答会用最平实的选项,而这个短语展现出7.5分典型的更广泛、更自然的词汇范围。
    • GRAHaving stared at screens all day for work, I tend to unwind with design blogsThis is a fronted participial (non-finite) clause replacing a full subordinate clause like 'Because I have stared at screens...'. It produces more compact, flexible grammar than the plain coordinated sentences typical of lower bands.这是一个前置的分词(非限定)从句,取代了一个完整的从属从句,比如'Because I have stared at screens...'。它产生了比较低分段典型的平铺并列句更紧凑、更灵活的语法。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer states a plain opinion with a simple 'because' reason and basic, repeated vocabulary such as 'things that happened in the past'.6.5分的回答用一个简单的'because'理由和基础、重复的词汇(比如'things that happened in the past')陈述了一个平实的观点。

Younger people usually like fantasy, romance and manga, and also books about how to be successful at work because there is a lot of pressure to do well early. Older people, like my parents, prefer historical novels and biographies about things that happened in the past. My grandmother reads the same few classic Vietnamese novels again and again instead of trying new ones. I think younger people want escape and to improve themselves, but older people want to remember things they know well.

    年轻人通常喜欢奇幻、爱情和漫画,还有关于如何在职场上取得成功的书,因为现在有很大的压力要尽早做出成绩。年长的人,比如我父母,更喜欢历史小说和关于过去发生的事情的传记。我奶奶反复读的是同样那几本经典越南小说,而不是尝试新的。我觉得年轻人想要的是逃避现实、提升自己,而年长的人则想要回忆他们熟悉的东西。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI thinkThis is a plain, direct opinion marker placed at the start of the closing sentence. A 6.5 answer typically states its stance this simply, while a 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely soften or vary this with a spoken hedge like 'I'd say' or 'honestly'.这是一个平实、直接的观点标记,放在结尾句的开头。6.5分的回答通常会这样简单地陈述立场,而7.0分或7.5分的回答则可能会用一个口语化的缓和语,比如'I'd say'或'honestly'来软化或变换表达。
    • LRhow to be successful at workThis is a plain paraphrase rather than a more precise collocation such as 'self-improvement' or 'career advancement'. It shows the narrower vocabulary range typical of 6.5, where common everyday words substitute for more specific terms.这是一个平实的释义,而不是像'self-improvement'或'career advancement'这样更精准的搭配。这体现出6.5分典型的较窄词汇范围,用常见的日常词汇替代更具体的术语。
    • GRAbecause there is a lot of pressure to do well earlyThis is a simple 'because' clause with basic subordination and no further embedding. A higher band would likely compress this into a reduced clause or attach it to a more complex sentence rather than stating it plainly.这是一个带基本从属结构、没有进一步嵌套的简单'because'从句。更高分段可能会把它压缩成一个简化从句,或者附加到一个更复杂的句子上,而不是平铺直叙地陈述出来。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer uses the natural spoken opener 'Honestly' and a moderately complex comparative structure, 'would rather reread... than pick up anything new'.7.0分的回答用了自然的口语开头'Honestly',以及一个适度复杂的比较结构'would rather reread... than pick up anything new'。

Honestly, younger readers here tend to go for fantasy, romance and manga, along with self-improvement books aimed at getting ahead in their careers, since there's real pressure to succeed early. Older readers, from what I've noticed with my parents' generation, lean toward historical novels and biographies, often about periods they actually lived through. My grandmother, for instance, would rather reread the same handful of classic Vietnamese novels every couple of years than pick up anything new. I'd say the difference comes down to what each generation wants from reading — escapism for the young, familiarity for the old.

    • FCHonestly, younger readers here tend to go forThis spoken discourse marker opens the answer with a natural, conversational tone rather than a flat statement. It signals fluency typical of 7.0, where a lower band would more likely start with a plain 'Younger people like'.这个口语化的话语标记以一种自然、口语化的语气开启了这个回答,而不是一个平铺直叙的陈述。它标示出7.0分典型的流利度,而较低分段更可能以平实的'Younger people like'开头。
    • LRself-improvement books aimed at getting ahead in their careersThis is a moderately more precise collocation than the plain paraphrase a 6.5 answer would use, such as 'books about being successful'. It shows a slightly wider, more natural range of vocabulary.这是一个比6.5分回答会用的平实释义(比如'books about being successful')略微更精准的搭配。这体现出略微更宽广、更自然的词汇范围。
    • GRAMy grandmother, for instance, would rather reread the same handful of classic Vietnamese novels every couple of years than pick up anything newThis uses a comparative 'would rather... than' structure, which is moderately more complex than a simple coordinated sentence. A 6.5 answer would likely split this into two short, plain sentences instead.这里用了一个比较结构'would rather... than',比一个简单的并列句适度更复杂。6.5分的回答很可能会把它拆成两个简短、平实的句子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the less common verb 'gravitate toward' and closes with a compact evaluative summary beginning 'What it boils down to, I think'.7.5分的回答用了较少见的动词'gravitate toward',并以一个以'What it boils down to, I think'开头的简练评价性总结收尾。

Younger readers here gravitate toward fantasy, romance and manga, plus a steady stream of self-improvement titles aimed squarely at career advancement, given how much pressure there is to get ahead early. Older readers, judging by my parents' generation, favour historical novels and biographies instead, particularly ones covering eras and upheavals they actually lived through. My grandmother embodies this perfectly, returning to the same handful of classic Vietnamese novels every few years rather than venturing into anything unfamiliar. What it boils down to, I think, is that each generation reads for a different reward: escapism and self-development for the young, reflection and comforting familiarity for the old.

    • FCWhat it boils down to, I think, is thatThis is a cleft-like fronted construction that ties the whole answer together in a cohesive closing statement. A 6.5 answer would more likely just add a plain new sentence starting with 'I think', without this compact framing device.这是一个类似强调句的前置结构,把整个回答用一句连贯的结尾陈述串联在一起。6.5分的回答更可能只会加一句以'I think'开头的平实新句子,没有这种简练的框架手法。
    • LRgravitate towardThis is a less common, more vivid verb choice than the plainer 'like' or 'prefer' used at lower bands. It shows the kind of natural, less predictable lexis expected at 7.5.这是一个比较低分段用的平淡的'like'或'prefer'更少见、更生动的动词选择。它展现出7.5分所期望的那种自然、不那么可预测的词汇。
    • GRAreturning to the same handful of classic Vietnamese novels every few years rather than venturing into anything unfamiliarThis is a participial phrase ('returning to...') attached to the main clause instead of a separate finite sentence, producing more compact, flexible grammar than the plain coordinated sentences a 6.5 answer would use.这是一个附加在主句上的分词短语('returning to...'),而不是一个独立的限定句,产生了比6.5分回答会用的平铺并列句更紧凑、更灵活的语法。

The 6.5 answer strings ideas together with the plain connector 'Also,' and a simple 'because' clause, keeping vocabulary basic throughout, as in 'sound old quickly'.6.5分的回答用平实的连接词'Also,'和一个简单的'because'从句把各个想法串联起来,全程用词都很基础,比如'sound old quickly'。

I think it is because they show things about people that do not really change, even if the story is old. A character's fears or dreams can still feel real many years later, so schools keep teaching the same classic books. A good story also helps, because a strong plot lasts longer than slang words, which can sound old quickly. Also, parents often give their favourite childhood book to their own children, so the book stays popular for a long time. Films based on books can help too.

    • FCAlso,This is a plain additive connector used to open a new sentence and introduce a new idea. A 6.5 answer typically sequences points this way, while a higher band would more likely fold this idea into the previous sentence with a more varied cohesive device.这是一个平实的附加连接词,用来开启一个新句子、引出一个新想法。6.5分的回答通常会这样按顺序排列各点,而更高分段则更可能用一种更多样化的连贯性手段,把这个想法融入前一句话中。
    • LRsound old quicklyThis is plain, common phrasing rather than a more precise word such as 'date' or 'feel outdated'. It reflects the narrower vocabulary range typical of 6.5.这是平实、常见的措辞,而不是更精准的词,比如'date'或'feel outdated'。这体现出6.5分典型的、较窄的词汇范围。
    • GRAbecause a strong plot lasts longer than slang wordsThis is a simple 'because' clause with a basic comparative, with no further subordination or embedding. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely build a relative clause onto this comparison instead of leaving it as a standalone statement.这是一个简单的'because'从句,带一个基础的比较结构,没有进一步的从属或嵌套。7.0分或7.5分的回答很可能会在这个比较之上再构建一个定语从句,而不是让它作为一个独立的陈述。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer adds the qualifying spoken connector 'To be fair,' and the more natural collocation 'ages better than trendy slang'.7.0分的回答加入了带限定意味的口语连接词'To be fair,',以及更自然的搭配'ages better than trendy slang'。

I'd say it's usually because they capture something about human nature that doesn't really change, even when the setting feels a bit dated now. A well-written character's fears or ambitions can still feel relevant decades later, which is probably why classics keep getting assigned in schools generation after generation. To be fair, strong plotting helps too, since a good structure ages better than trendy slang, which can make a book feel outdated within just a few years. There's also the fact that parents tend to pass their favourite childhood book down to their own kids, which honestly keeps certain titles circulating long after they were first published.

    • FCTo be fair,This is a spoken hedging connector that introduces a qualifying, secondary point rather than simply listing it. A 6.5 answer would more likely just say 'Also' or 'A good story also helps' without this reflective qualifier.这是一个口语化的缓和性连接词,用来引出一个限定性的次要观点,而不只是简单地列出它。6.5分的回答更可能只会说'Also'或'A good story also helps',没有这种反思性的限定语。
    • LRages better than trendy slangThis is a moderately more natural collocation ('ages better') than the plainer 'lasts longer' a 6.5 answer would use, showing a slightly wider range of expression.这是一个比6.5分中更平淡的'lasts longer'略微更自然的搭配('ages better'),展现出稍微更广的表达范围。
    • GRAwhich can make a book feel outdated within just a few yearsThis is a relative clause introduced with 'which', adding a moderately complex layer of subordination onto the main comparison. A 6.5 answer would more likely state this as a separate, simple sentence.这是一个用'which'引出的定语从句,在主要的比较之上加了一层适度复杂的从属结构。6.5分的回答更可能会把这个内容陈述为一个独立的简单句子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens with a fronted concessive clause, 'however dated the setting itself might look', and uses the vivid collocation 'ages far more gracefully'.7.5分的回答以一个前置的让步从句开头——'however dated the setting itself might look',并用了生动的搭配'ages far more gracefully'。

Usually it comes down to a book capturing something about human nature that barely shifts, however dated the setting itself might look. A vividly drawn character's fears or ambitions can feel just as relevant decades on, which explains why classics keep getting assigned to yet another generation of students. Strong storytelling structure matters too — a well-built plot ages far more gracefully than trendy slang, which can date a book within a handful of years. Word of mouth plays its part as well, with parents habitually passing a beloved childhood book on to their own kids, quietly keeping certain titles in circulation long after their original release.

    • FCWord of mouth plays its part as well, with parents habitually passing a beloved childhood book on to their own kidsThis fronted topic plus a participial 'with... passing' clause links a new idea smoothly into the paragraph. A 6.5 answer would more likely start this idea with a plain 'Also,' as a separate sentence.这个前置的话题加上一个分词从句'with... passing',把一个新想法顺畅地融入了段落之中。6.5分的回答更可能会用平实的'Also,'把这个想法开启为一个独立句子。
    • LRages far more gracefullyThis is a vivid, less common collocation than the plainer 'lasts longer' or 'ages better' used at lower bands, showing precise and slightly idiomatic word choice.这是一个比较低分段用的更平淡的'lasts longer'或'ages better'更生动、更少见的搭配,展现出精准、略带地道色彩的用词选择。
    • GRAhowever dated the setting itself might lookThis is an inverted, fronted concessive clause used in place of a plain 'even if the story is old'. It produces more compact, flexible grammar typical of 7.5, where a 6.5 answer would use a much simpler 'even if' clause.这是一个倒装的、前置的让步从句,用来取代平实的'even if the story is old'。这产生了7.5分典型的更紧凑、更灵活的语法,而6.5分的回答会用一个简单得多的'even if'从句。

The 6.5 answer gives a direct preference with the plain contrastive connector 'But sometimes' and simple, basic phrasing like 'make you curious'.6.5分的回答给出了一个直接的偏好,用了平实的对比连接词'But sometimes',以及简单、基础的措辞,比如'make you curious'。

I prefer to read the book first because it lets me imagine the characters and places myself, before I see how a director shows them. After you watch the film, it is hard to picture the characters in any other way again. But sometimes watching the film first can make you curious to read the book, especially if you were not sure you would like it. There is no fixed rule, but for books with a lot of description, I think reading first is usually better than watching the film.

    我更喜欢先读书,因为这让我可以在看到导演如何呈现之前,自己去想象人物和场景。看完电影之后,就很难再用别的方式去想象这些人物了。但有时候先看电影也会让你产生好奇心,想去读原著,尤其是当你本来不确定自己会不会喜欢这个故事的时候。这没有固定的规则,但对于那些有很多描写的书,我觉得先读书通常比先看电影更好。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBut sometimesThis is a plain contrastive connector used to introduce a counterpoint. A 6.5 answer signals contrast this directly, while a 7.0 answer would more likely use a softer spoken connector such as 'That said,'.这是一个用来引出反例的平实对比连接词。6.5分的回答以这种直接方式表明对比,而7.0分的回答更可能会用一个更柔和的口语连接词,比如'That said,'。
    • LRmake you curiousThis is plain, everyday phrasing rather than a more natural collocation such as 'work like a preview' or 'spark curiosity'. It reflects the basic vocabulary range typical of 6.5.这是平实、日常的措辞,而不是像'work like a preview'或'spark curiosity'这样更自然的搭配。这反映出6.5分典型的基础词汇范围。
    • GRAit is hard to picture the characters in any other way againThis is a simple present-tense clause with a basic structure and no subordination. A higher band would likely restructure this with a passive or gerund subject, such as 'picturing the characters any other way becomes almost impossible'.这是一个带基本结构、没有从属关系的简单现在时从句。更高分段可能会用被动语态或动名词主语来重新组织这句话,比如'picturing the characters any other way becomes almost impossible'。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens the stance with 'That said,' and builds a moderately complex sentence around 'Once you've seen the film, it's honestly almost impossible...'.7.0分的回答用'That said,'软化了立场,并围绕'Once you've seen the film, it's honestly almost impossible...'构建了一个适度复杂的句子。

I'd generally rather read the book first, mainly because it lets my own imagination build the characters and settings before a director's version takes over. Once you've seen the film, it's honestly almost impossible to picture the characters any other way afterwards. That said, watching the film first can sometimes work like a preview that makes you curious enough to try the book, especially with a story you weren't sure you'd enjoy. There's no strict rule really, though for anything heavy on description, I'd say reading first usually captures more than the film manages to show.

    • FCThat said,This is a natural spoken connector that introduces a qualifying counterpoint rather than a blunt 'But'. It shows a more developed range of cohesive devices than a 6.5 answer would use.这是一个自然的口语连接词,用来引出一个限定性的反例,而不是生硬的'But'。它比6.5分回答所用的连贯性手段更丰富。
    • LRwork like a previewThis is a mildly more natural collocation than the plain 'make you curious' a 6.5 answer would use, showing a slightly wider and more figurative use of vocabulary.这是一个比6.5分回答会用的平实短语'make you curious'略微更自然的搭配,展现出略微更广泛、更具比喻色彩的词汇运用。
    • GRAOnce you've seen the film, it's honestly almost impossible to picture the characters any other way afterwardsThis combines an 'once' time clause with an inserted adverb ('honestly') before the main clause, producing a moderately more complex sentence than the plain statement a 6.5 answer would give.这把一个'once'时间从句和一个插入在主句之前的副词('honestly')结合在一起,产生了一个比6.5分回答的平铺陈述适度更复杂的句子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the vivid phrase 'locks them in permanently' and a compact passive-gerund construction, 'picturing the characters any other way afterwards becomes almost impossible'.7.5分的回答用了生动的短语'locks them in permanently',以及一个简练的被动加动名词结构'picturing the characters any other way afterwards becomes almost impossible'。

Reading the book first is generally my preference, largely because it lets my own imagination shape the characters and settings before a director's interpretation locks them in permanently. Once a film has been watched, picturing the characters any other way afterwards becomes almost impossible, however hard you try to unsee it. That said, watching the adaptation first can occasionally work as a kind of preview, nudging you toward a story you weren't otherwise sure you'd enjoy. There's no hard rule here, though for anything dense with description or interior thought, reading first tends to capture far more nuance than a film usually manages to translate onto the screen.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThat said, watching the adaptation first can occasionally work as a kind of preview, nudging you toward a story you weren't otherwise sure you'd enjoyThe participial phrase 'nudging you toward...' extends the sentence compactly instead of starting a new one, giving smoother, more sophisticated cohesion than a lower band's separate short sentences.分词短语'nudging you toward...'紧凑地延伸了句子,而不是另起一句,比较低分段用独立短句的方式展现出更流畅、更老到的连贯性。
    • LRlocks them in permanentlyThis is a vivid, less common phrase compared to the plainer 'shows them' or 'makes it hard to imagine' used at lower bands, showing precise and slightly idiomatic word choice.相比较低分段用的平淡的'shows them'或'makes it hard to imagine',这是一个生动、少见的短语,展现出精准、略带地道色彩的用词选择。
    • GRAOnce a film has been watched, picturing the characters any other way afterwards becomes almost impossibleThis uses a passive 'once' clause followed by a gerund subject ('picturing... becomes'), a compact and flexible structure. A 6.5 answer would state this far more simply as 'it is hard to picture the characters'.这里用了一个被动的'once'从句,后面跟着一个动名词主语('picturing... becomes'),是一种紧凑、灵活的结构。6.5分的回答会把这个想法说得简单得多,直接说'it is hard to picture the characters'。

Mostly I agree, but not always. Books have more space to show a character's thoughts and feelings, which a two-hour film often has to cut out. I remember reading a novel about a family separated by war, and the book let me feel each character's sadness slowly, over many pages. But the film version showed the same parts very quickly, so it lost that deep feeling. A film can sometimes be paced better, though. So overall, I think books are usually deeper, but films can feel powerful too.

    • FCSo overall,This is a simple concluding connector used to wrap up the answer plainly. A 6.5 answer typically signals its final point this directly, whereas a higher band might instead use a more compact, parallel closing structure.这是一个简单的总结连接词,用来平实地结束这个回答。6.5分的回答通常会这样直接地标示出自己的最终观点,而更高分段可能会改用一个更紧凑、并列式的结尾结构。
    • LRvery quicklyThis is a plain adverb-adjective combination rather than a more vivid or precise word choice such as 'rushed'. It reflects the basic vocabulary typical of 6.5.这是一个平实的副词加形容词组合,而不是像'rushed'这样更生动或更精准的用词选择。这体现出6.5分典型的基础词汇。
    • GRAthe book let me feel each character's sadness slowly, over many pagesThis is a simple past-tense clause joined to the previous one with 'and', a basic coordination rather than subordination. A higher band would likely use a contrastive 'while' clause here instead.这是一个用'and'和前一句连接的简单过去时从句,是一种基本的并列,而不是从属结构。更高分段可能会在这里用一个对比性的'while'从句代替。

The 7.0 answer inserts the qualifying connector 'Occasionally, though,' and a moderately complex 'while' contrast clause describing the rushed film scenes.7.0分的回答插入了限定性的连接词'Occasionally, though,',以及一个描述仓促电影场景的适度复杂的'while'对比从句。

Mostly, yes, though I wouldn't say it's true every time. Books simply have more room to develop a character's inner thoughts and backstory than a two-hour film usually has time for. I remember reading a novel about a family separated during wartime, and the book let me sit with each character's grief for pages, while the film adaptation rushed through the same scenes in minutes and lost a lot of that emotional weight. Occasionally, though, a film actually improves on pacing issues the book had, or a strong visual style adds something the text simply couldn't. I'd say books usually win on depth, while films sometimes win on emotional impact.

    • FCOccasionally, though,This spoken qualifying connector introduces a counterpoint mid-answer, showing more developed cohesion than a 6.5 answer's plainer 'Sometimes, though,'.这个口语化的限定性连接词,在回答中段引出了一个反论点,比6.5分回答中更平淡的'Sometimes, though,'展现出更充分发展的连贯性。
    • LRsit with each character's grief for pagesThis is a natural collocation ('sit with grief') rather than the plainer 'feel sadness' used at 6.5, showing a slightly more precise and idiomatic word choice.这是一个自然的搭配('sit with grief'),而不是6.5分中用的更平淡的'feel sadness',展现出略微更精准、更地道的用词选择。
    • GRAwhile the film adaptation rushed through the same scenes in minutes and lost a lot of that emotional weightThis combines a 'while' contrast clause with a coordinated verb phrase ('rushed... and lost'), a moderately complex sentence. A 6.5 answer would likely split this into two separate short sentences.这把一个'while'对比从句和一个并列的动词短语('rushed... and lost')结合在一起,是一个适度复杂的句子。6.5分的回答很可能会把它拆成两个独立的短句。

Largely, yes, though I wouldn't call it a hard and fast rule. Books simply have more room to unpack a character's inner thoughts, backstory and the small details a two-hour film has to sacrifice for time. Reading a novel once about a family torn apart by war, I found the book let me sit with each character's grief for pages, whereas the adaptation rushed through those same scenes in minutes, gutting most of the emotional weight. Occasionally, though, a film smooths over pacing issues the source material struggled with, or a striking visual style adds something the text simply couldn't reach. On balance, books tend to win on depth, films occasionally on raw emotional punch.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCOn balance, books tend to win on depth, films occasionally on raw emotional punchThis closing sentence uses a compressed parallel structure, omitting the repeated verb 'win' in the second half. This kind of ellipsis produces a more cohesive, compact summary than a 6.5 answer's fuller, plainer restatement.这句结尾用了一个压缩的并列结构,在后半句中省略了重复的动词'win'。这种省略手法比6.5分回答更完整、更平淡的重述产生了更连贯、更紧凑的总结。
    • LRgutting most of the emotional weightThis is a vivid, less common verb choice ('gutting') instead of the plainer 'lost' used at lower bands, showing precise and slightly idiomatic vocabulary.相比较低分段用的更平淡的'lost',这是一个生动、少见的动词选择('gutting'),展现出精准、略带地道色彩的词汇运用。
    • GRAReading a novel once about a family torn apart by war, I found the book let me sit with each character's grief for pagesThis opens with a fronted participial phrase ('Reading a novel once...') modifying the main clause, a compact non-finite construction. A 6.5 answer would state this as two separate, plain sentences joined by 'and'.这句话以一个前置的分词短语('Reading a novel once...')开头,修饰主句,是一个紧凑的非限定结构。6.5分的回答会把这表述成两个用'and'连接的独立、平实的句子。

Yes, I think they can, especially for people who do not usually read books. A good film often makes people curious about parts that were left out or changed, so some of them want to read the real book. I have seen this with a couple of my friends who are not big readers, but they bought the book after they loved the film, just to see how the ending was different. It does not work for everyone, because some people are happy with just the film. But films can still help people start reading.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBut films can still help people start readingThis is a simple concluding sentence with the plain connector 'But', giving a basic wrap-up. A higher band would likely fold this final point into a more cohesive closing phrase instead of a new short sentence.这是一个用平实连接词'But'构成的简单结尾句,给出了一个基础的收尾。更高分段可能会把这最后一点融进一个更连贯的结尾短语,而不是另起一个新的短句。

    • GRAso some of them want to read the real bookThis is a simple 'so' result clause, a basic coordination without further embedding. A 7.0 answer would likely replace 'so' with a more precise verb like 'nudges' inside a relative clause.这是一个简单的'so'结果从句,是一种没有进一步嵌套的基本并列结构。7.0分的回答可能会用一个定语从句内更精准的动词,比如'nudges',来取代'so'。

Honestly, yes, especially for people who wouldn't normally pick up a book on their own. A gripping film often leaves viewers curious about details that were left out or changed, which nudges some of them toward the original novel out of curiosity rather than habit. I've actually noticed this with a couple of friends who aren't big readers but bought the book after loving the adaptation, just to see how the ending differed. It doesn't work for everyone, of course, since plenty of people are content with the film alone. But as a gateway into reading, I'd say adaptations genuinely help.

    • FCHonestly, yes,This is a spoken affirmation opener with a reflective tone, showing more natural fluency than a 6.5 answer's flatter 'Yes, I think they can'.这是一个带有反思语气的口语化肯定开头,比6.5分回答中更平淡的'Yes, I think they can'展现出更自然的流利度。
    • LRnudges some of them toward the original novelThis is a moderately natural collocation ('nudges toward') rather than the plainer 'makes them want to read' used at 6.5, showing a slightly wider vocabulary range.这是一个适度自然的搭配('nudges toward'),而不是6.5分中用的更平淡的'makes them want to read',展现出略微更宽广的词汇范围。
    • GRAwhich nudges some of them toward the original novel out of curiosity rather than habitThis relative clause introduced with 'which' is combined with a contrastive 'rather than' phrase, a moderately complex structure. A 6.5 answer would likely state this as two separate, simpler sentences.这个用'which'引出的定语从句,和一个对比性的'rather than'短语结合在一起,是一个适度复杂的结构。6.5分的回答很可能会把这表述成两个更简单、独立的句子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer closes with the idiomatic collocation 'earn their keep' and a compact reduced clause, 'particularly for viewers who'd never otherwise pick up a novel'.7.5分的回答以地道的搭配'earn their keep'和一个简练的简化从句'particularly for viewers who'd never otherwise pick up a novel'收尾。

They can, certainly, particularly for viewers who'd never otherwise pick up a novel. A gripping film often leaves audiences curious about whatever got trimmed or altered along the way, nudging some of them toward the source material out of sheer curiosity rather than habit. I've seen this play out with a couple of friends who aren't natural readers but went and bought the book after loving the adaptation, purely to see how the ending diverged. Granted, it doesn't work universally, since plenty of viewers are perfectly content with the film alone and feel no pull toward the page. Still, as a gateway into reading, adaptations clearly earn their keep.

    • FCStill, as a gateway into reading, adaptations clearly earn their keepThis closing sentence ties the whole discussion together with a compact evaluative phrase, giving smoother, more cohesive closure than a 6.5 answer's plainer final sentence.这句结尾用一个简练的评价性短语把整个讨论串联在一起,比6.5分回答更平淡的结尾句展现出更流畅、更连贯的收尾。
    • LRearn their keepThis is an idiomatic, less common collocation compared to the plainer 'genuinely help' used at 7.0, showing precise and slightly idiomatic word choice typical of 7.5.相比7.0分中用的更平淡的'genuinely help',这是一个地道、少见的搭配,展现出7.5分典型的精准、略带地道色彩的用词选择。
    • GRAparticularly for viewers who'd never otherwise pick up a novelThis uses a fronted reduced relative clause with a contraction ('who'd never otherwise'), producing more compact grammar than a 6.5 answer's fuller, plainer 'people who do not usually read books'.这里用了一个带缩写形式的前置简化定语从句('who'd never otherwise'),产生了比6.5分回答更完整、更平淡的'people who do not usually read books'更紧凑的语法。

The 6.5 answer links its claim about empathy directly with 'because' and uses the plain phrase 'learn new words' rather than a more precise term.6.5分的回答用'because'直接把关于同理心的论断和理由连接起来,并用平实的短语'learn new words',而不是更精准的术语。

Reading stories helps children learn new words and use their imagination, instead of just watching everything on a screen. Stories also teach empathy, because children follow a character through problems and learn to understand other people's feelings. My sister used to read to our neighbour's daughter almost every evening when we lived in Hue, and after about a year, that girl's vocabulary was much better than her classmates', her teacher said. Stories can also teach children right and wrong gently, through the story itself.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCStories also teach empathy, becauseThis is a plain connector directly linking the claim to its reason. A 6.5 answer typically builds coherence this simply, while a higher band would likely add a hedge such as 'to be fair' before the reason.这是一个直接把论断和理由连接起来的平实连接词。6.5分的回答通常这样简单地构建连贯性,而更高分段可能会在理由之前加一个缓和语,比如'to be fair'。
    • LRlearn new wordsThis is a plain, everyday phrase rather than a more precise term such as 'build vocabulary'. It reflects the basic vocabulary range typical of 6.5.这是一个平实、日常的短语,而不是像'build vocabulary'这样更精准的术语。这体现出6.5分典型的基础词汇范围。
    • GRAher teacher saidThis is a short clause tacked on at the end of the sentence, a basic reporting structure. A higher band would likely embed this as 'according to her teacher' within the main clause instead.这是一个附加在句末的短小从句,是一种基础的转述结构。更高分段可能会把这以'according to her teacher'的形式嵌入主句之中。

The 7.0 answer inserts the hedging spoken phrase 'to be fair,' and the more natural collocation 'noticeably outpaced her classmates''.7.0分的回答插入了带缓和意味的口语短语'to be fair,',以及更自然的搭配'noticeably outpaced her classmates''。

Stories build vocabulary and imagination in a way that's hard to replace with screens alone, since kids have to picture the scenes themselves rather than being shown everything. They also teach empathy, to be fair, because following a character through difficulty helps children understand feelings outside their own experience. My sister used to read to the neighbour's daughter most evenings when we were still in Hue, and within about a year, that little girl's vocabulary had noticeably outpaced her classmates', according to her teacher. Beyond language, stories introduce ideas about consequences and right and wrong fairly gently, which tends to stick with children better than direct lecturing.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCto be fair,This spoken hedging connector is inserted mid-sentence, adding a reflective qualifying tone rather than the flat 'because' a 6.5 answer would use.这个带缓和意味的口语连接词被插入在句子中段,增添了一种反思性的限定语气,而不是6.5分回答会用的平淡的'because'。
    • LRnoticeably outpaced her classmates'This is a moderately more precise collocation than the plain 'was much better than her classmates'' used at 6.5, showing a slightly wider vocabulary range.这是一个比6.5分中用的平淡的'was much better than her classmates''适度更精准的搭配,展现出略微更宽广的词汇范围。
    • GRAwhich tends to stick with children better than direct lecturingThis relative clause introduced with 'which' adds a comparative subordinate idea onto the main statement, a moderately complex structure compared to a 6.5 answer's separate, simpler sentence.这个用'which'引出的定语从句,在主要陈述之上加了一个比较性的从属想法,比6.5分回答中独立、更简单的句子是适度更复杂的结构。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the less common verb 'conjure' and a compressed gerund construction, 'following a character through hardship teaching kids to recognise feelings...'.7.5分的回答用了较少见的动词'conjure',以及一个压缩的动名词结构'following a character through hardship teaching kids to recognise feelings...'。

Stories build vocabulary and imagination in ways screens alone struggle to replicate, since children have to conjure the scenes themselves rather than have everything shown to them. They also cultivate empathy, following a character through hardship teaching kids to recognise feelings well outside their own experience. My sister used to read to the neighbour's daughter most evenings back when we were still in Hue, and within a year that little girl's vocabulary had noticeably outpaced her classmates', or so her teacher reported. Beyond language, stories quietly introduce notions of consequence and right and wrong through narrative rather than direct lecturing, a gentler approach that tends to stick far more durably with children.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBeyond language, stories quietly introduce notions of consequence and right and wrong through narrative rather than direct lecturingThis topic-shift opener ('Beyond language') links a new idea smoothly to the prior point, showing more sophisticated cohesion than a 6.5 answer's plainer 'Stories can also teach'.这个话题转折开头('Beyond language')把一个新想法顺畅地和前一点连接起来,比6.5分回答更平淡的'Stories can also teach'展现出更老到的连贯性。
    • LRconjure the scenes themselvesThis is a vivid, less common verb choice ('conjure') instead of the plainer 'picture' used at lower bands, showing precise and slightly idiomatic vocabulary.这是一个生动、少见的动词选择('conjure'),而不是较低分段用的更平淡的'picture',展现出精准、略带地道色彩的词汇运用。
    • GRAfollowing a character through hardship teaching kids to recognise feelings well outside their own experienceThis is a compressed construction using two participles ('following', 'teaching') without an explicit finite subordinator, producing compact, flexible grammar. A 6.5 answer would state this with a plain 'because' clause instead.这是一个用两个分词('following'、'teaching')构成的压缩结构,没有明确的限定从属连词,产生了紧凑、灵活的语法。6.5分的回答会用一个平实的'because'从句来表达这一点。

Historical novels are a good way to learn about real events, because a story makes facts easier to remember than a plain textbook timeline. I learned more about Vietnam's history from novels my father recommended than from years of school lessons. The problem is that writers sometimes change small facts, adding conversations or events that did not really happen, to make the story more interesting. So readers might get a slightly wrong idea if they think the book is true. But if people remember it is fiction, the benefits are bigger than the risk.

    • FCSo readers might get a slightly wrong ideaThis is a plain connector opening a straightforward result sentence. A 6.5 answer typically signals cause and effect this directly, whereas a higher band would likely fold this into a 'so' clause attached to the previous sentence.这是一个开启一个直白结果句的平实连接词。6.5分的回答通常这样直接地表示因果关系,而更高分段可能会把这融进一个附加在前一句上的'so'从句里。
    • LRnot really happenThis is plain, everyday phrasing rather than a more precise term such as 'invented dialogue'. It reflects the basic vocabulary range typical of 6.5.这是平实、日常的措辞,而不是像'invented dialogue'这样更精准的术语。这体现出6.5分典型的基础词汇范围。
    • GRAbecause a story makes facts easier to remember than a plain textbook timelineThis is a simple 'because' clause with a basic comparative structure and no further subordination. A higher band would likely compress this using a phrase like 'the emotional pull of a story'.这是一个带基本比较结构、没有进一步从属关系的简单'because'从句。更高分段可能会用一个像'the emotional pull of a story'这样的短语来压缩表达。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer marks its counterpoint with 'The drawback, though, is that' and the more idiomatic collocation 'take creative liberties'.7.0分的回答用'The drawback, though, is that'标示出了反论点,并用了更地道的搭配'take creative liberties'。

Historical novels are a fairly painless way to absorb real events, honestly, since the emotional pull of a story makes facts stick far better than a plain textbook timeline. I actually learned more about Vietnam's history from a couple of well-researched novels my father recommended than from years of school lessons. The drawback, though, is that authors take creative liberties, blending fact with invented dialogue or compressed timelines for the sake of drama, so readers can end up with a slightly distorted picture if they treat the book as pure history. As long as someone reads them as fiction inspired by real events rather than a factual record, I'd say the benefits outweigh that risk.

I genuinely absorbed more of Vietnam's history from a couple of well-researched novels my father recommended than from years of formal schooling. The drawback lies in the creative liberties authors take, blending fact with invented dialogue or compressed timelines purely for dramatic effect, which can leave readers with a slightly distorted picture if the book is mistaken for a factual record. Not really, I do not fully agree with this idea. Non-fiction is useful because it gives practical knowledge, and I read a lot of design and business books for this reason. But fiction helps people understand feelings and other people's lives in a way that facts alone cannot do. I think both types are useful for different reasons, not one better than the other. A mix of both is probably good for a reader, instead of only reading one type. Fiction is important because it helps us understand people better.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBut fiction helps people understand feelingsThis is a simple contrastive connector, 'But', opening a plain counterpoint. A 6.5 answer signals contrast this directly, while a higher band would more likely use a softer spoken connector or embed the contrast within a longer sentence.这是一个简单的对比连接词'But',开启了一个平实的反论点。6.5分的回答用这种直接方式表示对比,而更高分段更可能会用一个更柔和的口语连接词,或者把这个对比嵌入一个更长的句子里。

Not entirely, no, I think that view undervalues what fiction actually offers. Non-fiction obviously builds practical knowledge more directly, and I read plenty of design and business books for that reason. But fiction develops empathy and emotional understanding in a way facts alone rarely manage, by putting you inside someone else's perspective for a few hundred pages. I'd say the two serve different purposes rather than one being superior, and honestly a balance between them probably benefits a reader more than leaning entirely on either side. Judging worth purely by usefulness, to be fair, misses what fiction does particularly well.

Fiction, though, cultivates empathy and emotional understanding in ways facts alone rarely manage, dropping you inside someone else's perspective for a few hundred pages at a stretch. I'd argue the two serve fundamentally different purposes rather than one outranking the other, and a balance between them probably serves a reader better than leaning entirely on either side. I still like printed magazines now and then, though — last month I picked up a design magazine at a small bookstore near Han Market, and flipping through the glossy pages felt refreshing after so much screen time. Then there's my cousin Vy, who loves romance novels, mostly on her Kindle. So I'd say it really comes down to convenience and personal taste.

The inserted phrase "in the end" turns the closing sentence into a weighed judgement rather than the plainer summaries of the lower bands.插入的短语'in the end'把这句结尾变成了一个经过权衡的判断,而不是较低分段更平淡的总结。

It felt far more intense than any description on a page could manage. Movies are inherently social too, since we ended up chatting for an hour afterwards about our favourite scenes, comparing notes like we'd both been somewhere. So for sheer excitement and a genuinely shared experience, movies really do have the edge.

    • FCcomparing notes like we'd both been somewhereA striking simile added to the closing image, going beyond the plainer social observation at 7.0.在结尾意象中加入了一个引人注目的明喻,超越了7.0分中较平淡的社交性观察。
    • LRwith nothing left to the imaginationA precise idiomatic phrase capturing why movies feel immersive, more developed than 7.0's plain "all at once."一个精准的地道短语,捕捉了电影为何有沉浸感,比7.0分平淡的'all at once'更有发展。

I think it depends on how people like to experience stories. Books let you imagine everything yourself, so you can picture the characters however you want. My friend Ha loves that freedom, and she spends hours reading at a small café near Tran Phu street. She says books feel more personal to her. On the other hand, movies are quick and visual, which suits people who do not have much time.
