6.5 分

The answer gives one plain, direct reason for enjoying the evening ('everything was simple and cheap, but we were completely relaxed') and closes with a simple general statement about friendship, a clear but modest structure typical of Band 6.5.回答给出一个简单直接的理由来说明为什么喜欢那个夜晚('一切都简单又便宜,但我们完全放松'),并以一句关于友情的简单概括收尾,结构清晰但比较朴素,是Band 6.5的典型特征。

An evening I really enjoyed with my friends was about three months ago, on a warm evening at Han Market in Da Nang.

It was a Saturday, after I finished work early, and I met my friend Phuong near the market around six in the evening. We walked around the food stalls outside the market, looking for something to eat.

We spent the whole evening together, just the two of us, eating banh xeo and drinking sugarcane juice from a small stall. After that, we walked along the river towards Dragon Bridge to watch it light up and breathe fire, which happens on weekend nights. We sat on the steps near the river for almost an hour, watching the water and talking about our jobs and our families back home.

I think it was such an enjoyable evening because everything was simple and cheap, but we were completely relaxed. There was no plan, we just walked and ate and talked whenever we felt like it. The bridge lighting up in front of us made the evening feel a bit special, even though we did not go anywhere fancy. I left feeling refreshed, and it reminded me how much I enjoy spending time with old friends without needing anything expensive to have a good time.

  • FCI think it was such an enjoyable evening because everything was simple and cheap, but we were completely relaxed. The reason for enjoying the evening is delivered with one because-clause, giving a single clear justification rather than multiple layered reasons or a reflective elaboration on what "relaxed" meant to the speaker. This is sufficient development for 6.5 coherence, a direct answer to the "why" prompt, though a 7.0 speaker would likely follow it with a specific example of what made it feel relaxed. The plain contrast between "simple and cheap" and "completely relaxed" also captures the whole argument of the paragraph in one sentence.喜欢那个夜晚的理由,是用一个单一的because从句表达出来的,给出一个清晰、单一的理由,而不是多个层层叠加的理由,也没有对"relaxed"对说话者意味着什么做反思性的展开。这对6.5分的连贯性来说已经足够,直接回答了"为什么"这个提示,尽管7.0分的说话者很可能会在这之后再举一个让人感到放松的具体例子。"simple and cheap"与"completely relaxed"之间平实的对比,也在一句话里概括了整段的论证。
  • GRAThere was no plan, we just walked and ate and talked whenever we felt like it.Three verbs are strung together with "and" under one shared subject, a coordination-only structure with no subordinate clause at all, which keeps the sentence at the basic end of what 6.5 grammar requires. It's accurate and mirrors the aimless, unplanned nature of the evening being described, since the loose string of verbs echoes the loose structure of the night itself. A 7.0 answer might instead subordinate one of the actions, for example "since there was no real plan, we just...."三个动词在同一个共用主语下用"and"串联在一起,这是一种纯并列、完全没有从属从句的结构,使这句话停留在6.5分语法要求的基础水平。它准确无误,也如实反映出所描述的那个夜晚那种随性、无计划的性质,因为这串松散的动词恰好呼应了那个夜晚本身松散的结构。7.0分的答案则可能会把其中一个动作处理成从属从句,例如"since there was no real plan, we just...."
  • LRwithout needing anything expensive to have a good timeThis stays with plain, concrete vocabulary — "expensive," "good time" — rather than reaching for a more idiomatic phrase like "without breaking the bank," which a higher band might use in the same spot. It's clear and gets the point across accurately, closing the answer on the same simple, unpretentious note that runs through the whole story about Han Market and Dragon Bridge. The plainness here is consistent rather than an isolated dip, which is part of why the whole answer reads as 6.5.这里始终使用平实、具体的词汇——"expensive"、"good time"——而没有去追求像"without breaking the bank"这样更具习语色彩的表达,后者是更高分答案可能会在同样位置使用的说法。它清晰准确地传达了意思,以贯穿整段关于韩市场与龙桥故事的那种简单、不做作的基调为回答收尾。这里的朴素是前后一致的,而不是孤立的一处失误,这也是整个回答读起来像6.5分的部分原因。
7.0 分

The answer develops the evening with one specific concrete detail — Huy giving deliberately useless clues to 'wind me up' — and closes with a reflective generalisation about simple evenings mattering more, giving fuller development than the 6.5 answer while staying less textured than the 7.5 version.回答用一个具体细节来展开那个夜晚——辉故意给出没用的提示来'逗'作者——并以关于简单夜晚反而更有意义的一句反思性概括收尾,展现出比Band 6.5答案更充分的展开,但质感不及Band 7.5版本。

An evening that's really stuck with me was about two months back, a Friday straight after work. My friend Huy and I ended up at a small board game café on Nguyen Chi Thanh street, roughly a ten-minute ride from where I live near the Han River. There wasn't much planning involved — we'd both had a rough week and neither of us was in the mood for a loud bar or a packed cinema.

It was really just the two of us, though the café was buzzing with other tables of people. The atmosphere was warm and a bit dim, with the smell of coffee filling the whole room. We picked a spot by the window and each got an iced milk coffee. First we played Uno, which turned unexpectedly fierce, and then switched to Codenames, a word-guessing game that needs actual teamwork. We spent a lot of the evening laughing, particularly whenever Huy deliberately gave the most useless clue possible just to wind me up. Somewhere along the way the conversation moved from ridiculous client requests at work to stories from growing up in Hue.

What made the evening so good, honestly, was that balance between winding down and genuinely talking to someone. Leaving my phone in my bag and just paying attention to the games and the conversation felt surprisingly good. Nothing about the place tried too hard, and I walked out feeling both relaxed and ready for the weekend ahead. Evenings like that — cheap coffee, a good friend, nowhere to be — often turn out to matter more than the expensive ones.

  • LRdeliberately gave the most useless clue possible just to wind me upThe informal collocation 'wind me up' is a natural, everyday idiom used appropriately in spoken narrative, fitting the Band 7.0 target of a few more flexible expressions.非正式搭配'wind me up'(逗弄我/惹我)是一个自然、日常的习语,在口语化叙述中运用得当,符合Band 7.0在表达上更灵活一些的目标。
  • FCWhat made the evening so good, honestly, was that balance between winding down and genuinely talking to someone. The spoken hedge "honestly" introduces a moment where the speaker steps back from simply narrating the evening (the café, the games, the laughter) to analyse what specifically made it enjoyable, a natural, connected piece of development beyond plain narration, matching 7.0 fluency. A Band 6.5 answer would more likely just state that the evening was fun without identifying the underlying reason. The abstract phrase "that balance between winding down and genuinely talking to someone" also pulls together two separate strands of the story (relaxing with games, connecting through conversation) into a single, considered explanation.口语化的缓冲词 "honestly" 引出了一个时刻:说话者从单纯叙述那个晚上(咖啡馆、游戏、笑声)退一步,转而分析究竟是什么让这个夜晚令人愉快——这是一种自然、有衔接的深入展开,超越了单纯的叙述,符合7.0分的流利度水平。6.5分的答案更可能只是说那晚很开心,而不指出背后的具体原因。抽象短语 "that balance between winding down and genuinely talking to someone" 也把故事中两条各自独立的线索(靠游戏放松、通过交谈建立连接)整合成了一个经过深思的单一解释。
  • GRAEvenings like that — cheap coffee, a good friend, nowhere to be — often turn out to matter more than the expensive ones. The dash-set list interrupts the main clause before it resolves, showing a more varied sentence structure than a simple statement, typical of Band 7.0 grammar.这个用破折号隔开的列表在主句结束之前打断了它,展现出比简单陈述句更为多样的句子结构,是Band 7.0语法的典型特征。
7.5 分

The answer closes with a generalised, reflective claim — that evenings with 'zero pressure to impress anyone' are the ones that really stand out — rather than simply restating that the evening was fun, a developed evaluative move typical of Band 7.5.回答以一个概括性、反思性的论断收尾——那些'完全没有压力要去讨好谁'的夜晚才是真正令人难忘的——而不是单纯重复那晚很愉快,这是一种展开充分的评价性收尾,是Band 7.5的典型特征。

One enjoyable evening that stands out for me happened about two months ago, on a Friday after work. My friend Huy and I decided to unwind at a small board game café on Nguyen Chi Thanh street, which is about a ten-minute ride from my apartment near the Han River. Honestly, it was pretty spontaneous-we'd both had a stressful week, and neither of us felt like heading to a noisy bar or a packed cinema.

It was just Huy and me that evening, but the place was lively with other groups. The café itself was cozy, with low lighting and the smell of fresh coffee in the air. We grabbed a table by the window and ordered two cà phê sữa đá. We started off with a card game called Uno, which somehow turned pretty competitive, and then moved on to Codenames, which is more about teamwork and wordplay. There was a lot of laughter-especially when Huy tried to give the vaguest clues possible just to mess with me. We ended up chatting about everything from weird design requests at work to childhood memories back in Hue.

The reason I found this evening so enjoyable was the balance of relaxing and actually connecting. It felt good to put my phone away and just focus on the games and conversation. The setting felt comfortable and unpretentious, and I left feeling both refreshed and in a better mood for the weekend. Sometimes, it's these simple evenings with a close friend, good coffee, and zero pressure to impress anyone that really stand out.

  • FCSometimes, it's these simple evenings with a close friend, good coffee, and zero pressure to impress anyone that really stand out. This closing sentence uses a cleft-like structure ("it's these simple evenings... that really stand out") to generalise from the one specific Friday evening described to a wider claim about what the speaker values in friendship, the kind of reflective development the 7.5 descriptor asks for rather than a plain summary of the night's events. A Band 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely end by simply restating that the evening was enjoyable. The listed details ("a close friend, good coffee, and zero pressure to impress anyone") also compress the whole story's argument -- informality over performance -- into a single, quotable closing thought.这句结语用一个近似强调句的结构("it's these simple evenings... that really stand out")把前文描述的某一个具体的周五夜晚,概括成一个关于说话人在友谊中真正看重什么的更宏观的主张,这正是Band 7.5描述所要求的那种反思性发展,而不是对当晚事件的平淡总结。Band 6.5或7.0的答案更可能只是简单重复那个晚上很愉快就结束了。列举出的细节("a close friend, good coffee, and zero pressure to impress anyone")也把整个故事的论点——不拘礼节胜过刻意表现——浓缩成一句精炼、值得引用的收尾之语。
  • LRzero pressure to impress anyoneThe informal but precise phrase 'zero pressure' is a natural, less literal way of describing the relaxed mood, characteristic of Band 7.5 lexical resource.非正式却精准的短语'zero pressure'(零压力)是一种自然、不那么字面化的方式来描述放松的氛围,体现出Band 7.5的词汇资源特点。
  • GRAwe'd both had a stressful week, and neither of us felt like heading to a noisy bar or a packed cinemaThe sentence balances two coordinated clauses with parallel structure ('a noisy bar or a packed cinema'), showing the controlled, varied grammar of Band 7.5.这句话用两个结构对称的并列分句('a noisy bar or a packed cinema',嘈杂的酒吧或拥挤的电影院)保持了平衡,体现出Band 7.5那种收放自如、富于变化的语法。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion with a simple list of examples and one plain reason, linked mainly with 'and' and 'because'.6.5的答案给出了一个直接的观点,用简单的举例列表和一个平实的理由,主要用 'and' 和 'because' 连接。

People do many things with friends in the evening. Eating out is very popular, and coffee shops are popular too, because people like to sit and talk. Young people often go to karaoke after a busy week. But my friends and I usually just walk along the river after dinner. We do this because it is free and the view near the bridges is nice. So for us, this is the best way to relax together.

    人们晚上和朋友在一起会做很多事情。出去吃饭很受欢迎,咖啡馆也很受欢迎,因为大家喜欢坐下来聊天。年轻人在忙碌了一周之后常常去唱卡拉OK。但我和朋友通常吃完饭后就沿着河边散步。我们这样做是因为不花钱,而且桥附近的风景很好看。所以对我们来说,这是一起放松的最好方式。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo for us, this is the best way to relax together. The answer closes with a short, plain summary sentence using the simple connector 'So'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would round off with a more reflective or evaluative remark instead of a flat restatement.这个答案用简单连接词 'So' 引出一句简短、平实的总结句作为结尾。7.0或7.5的答案则会用更具反思性或评价性的话语来收尾,而不是平铺直叙地重复论点。
    • LRvery popularThis is a very common, general adjective-noun pairing with no attempt at a more precise or less common word choice. A higher band would reach for a more specific collocation like 'a firm favourite' or 'the go-to option'.这是一个非常常见、泛泛的形容词-名词搭配,没有尝试选用更精确或更少见的词语。更高分数段会选用更具体的搭配,比如 'a firm favourite' 或 'the go-to option'。
    • GRAWe do this because it is freeThis is a short main clause plus a simple 'because' clause, the most basic way to give a reason. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely embed this reasoning inside a longer sentence with a participle or linking clause.这是一个简短的主句加上一个简单的 'because' 从句,是给出理由最基本的方式。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会把这层推理嵌入到一个更长的句子里,用分词或连接从句来表达。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with the natural hedge 'Honestly, it depends a lot on the group' and uses a comparative clause ('more about having a comfortable spot than about the coffee itself') to add a little reflection beyond a flat list.7.0的答案以自然的缓和语 'Honestly, it depends a lot on the group' 开头,并用比较从句('more about having a comfortable spot than about the coffee itself')在单纯罗列之外增添了一点反思。

Honestly, it depends a lot on the group, but eating out is probably the most common choice, since grabbing food at a street-side place gives people hours to just talk. Coffee shops are popular too, especially in the evening, when they become more about having a comfortable spot than about the coffee itself. Karaoke is still a classic among younger people, particularly after exams. To be fair, though, my friends and I usually prefer something quieter, like walking along the river after dinner, mainly because it costs nothing and the view near the bridges is genuinely lovely in the evening.

    • FCHonestly, it depends a lot on the group, butThis spoken hedge softens the opinion before it's given, which sounds more natural than a flat statement. A 6.5 answer would likely skip this and state the opinion directly, while a 7.5 answer might compress the hedge into fewer words.这个口语化的缓和语在给出观点之前先软化了语气,听起来比平铺直叙的陈述更自然。6.5的答案很可能会跳过这一步,直接陈述观点,而7.5的答案可能会把缓和语压缩成更少的词。
    • LRgenuinely lovelyThis is a mildly upgraded collocation compared to a plain word like 'nice', showing some control of natural-sounding intensifiers. A 6.5 answer would just say 'nice', while a 7.5 answer might reach for a less common word like 'picturesque'.相比 'nice' 这样平实的词,这是一个略微升级的搭配,展现出对听起来自然的强调词有一定掌控力。6.5的答案会直接用 'nice',而7.5的答案可能会选用更少见的词,比如 'picturesque'。
    • GRAwhen they become more about having a comfortable spot than about the coffee itselfThis is a moderately complex comparative clause built around 'more about X than about Y', going beyond simple coordination. A 6.5 answer would likely split this into two short separate sentences.这是一个围绕 'more about X than about Y' 构建的中等复杂度的比较从句,超越了简单的并列结构。6.5的答案很可能会把它拆成两个较短的独立句子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens with a fronted participial phrase ('Costing absolutely nothing and offering a genuinely picturesque view... it has become') and closes with the evaluative touch 'one of the more underrated ways to unwind', giving it a more compact, idiomatic finish.7.5的答案以一个前置的分词短语开头('Costing absolutely nothing and offering a genuinely picturesque view... it has become'),并以颇具评价性的 'one of the more underrated ways to unwind' 收尾,让整体显得更紧凑、更地道。

Eating out is probably the go-to option, with people grabbing something like bun bo or grilled meat at a street-side stall and lingering over it for hours. Coffee shops draw a similarly loyal crowd, particularly once evening falls and the appeal shifts from caffeine to simply having a relaxed spot to unwind. Among younger crowds, karaoke rooms remain something of an institution, especially after a gruelling exam period. My own friends and I, however, tend to gravitate toward something far quieter: strolling along the riverside after dinner. Costing absolutely nothing and offering a genuinely picturesque view near the bridges, it has become something of an unspoken ritual for us, and honestly one of the more underrated ways to unwind.

    • FCMy own friends and I, however, tend to gravitate toward something far quieter: strolling along the riverside after dinner. The fronted 'however' and the colon leading into a compressed noun phrase create a more flexible, essay-like flow than a plain sentence would. A 6.5 answer would simply say 'But my friends and I walk along the river', with none of this compactness.前置的 'however' 加上冒号引出一个紧凑的名词短语,营造出比平铺直叙的句子更灵活、更像议论文的行文节奏。6.5的答案只会简单地说 'But my friends and I walk along the river',完全没有这种紧凑感。
    • LRsomething of an institutionThis is a genuinely less common, slightly idiomatic collocation for describing a well-established habit, well beyond a plain word like 'popular' or 'common'. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would be unlikely to reach for this phrase.这是一个真正少见、略带习语色彩的搭配,用来描述一种根深蒂固的习惯,远远超越了 'popular' 或 'common' 这样平实的词。6.5或7.0的答案不太可能用到这个短语。
    • GRACosting absolutely nothing and offering a genuinely picturesque view near the bridges, it has become something of an unspoken ritual for usThis uses a fronted participial phrase ('Costing... and offering...') to compress two reasons into one flowing clause before the main subject appears. A 6.5 answer would instead use two separate simple sentences joined with 'because' and 'and'.这里用一个前置的分词短语('Costing... and offering...')把两个理由压缩进一个流畅的分句里,放在主语出现之前。6.5的答案则会用 'because' 和 'and' 连接两个独立的简单句。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer states a clear position first, then supports it with one simple contrast and a plain example, joined mostly with 'but' and 'so'.6.5的答案先给出明确的立场,然后用一个简单的对比和一个平实的例子来支撑,主要用 'but' 和 'so' 连接。

No, I don't think so. Young people like new and expensive activities, such as escape rooms or board game cafes, because they see them on social media. Older people prefer simple and regular activities. For example, my parents in Hue have tea with the same neighbours every evening. But both groups still like eating together with friends. So the activities are different, but the reason is the same: people want company.

    查看中文翻译

    不,我不这么认为。年轻人喜欢新奇又昂贵的活动,比如密室逃脱或者桌游咖啡馆,因为他们在社交媒体上看到这些。年长的人更喜欢简单、有规律的活动。比如我在顺化的父母,每天晚上都会和同样的邻居一起喝茶。但两个群体依然都喜欢和朋友一起吃饭。所以活动不同,但原因是一样的:人们想要陪伴。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCNo, I don't think so.This is a short, direct opening position with no hedging or softening. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely open with a softer phrase such as 'Not really, no' before giving the reason.这是一个简短、直接的开头立场,没有任何缓和或委婉的语气。7.0或7.5的答案更可能用像 'Not really, no' 这样更委婉的短语开头,再给出理由。
    • LRnew and expensive activitiesThis uses two plain, common adjectives joined by 'and' rather than a single more precise word. A higher band might replace this with a tighter collocation like 'newer, often pricier pursuits'.这里用 'and' 连接了两个平实、常见的形容词,而不是用一个更精确的词。更高分数段可能会用更精炼的搭配来替换,比如 'newer, often pricier pursuits'。
    • GRAmy parents in Hue have tea with the same neighbours every eveningThis is a simple present-tense main clause with no embedded clause or modifier. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely attach this example to the sentence before it using a linking phrase like 'from what I've seen' or 'such as'.这是一个简单的现在时主句,没有嵌入从句或修饰语。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会用像 'from what I've seen' 或 'such as' 这样的连接短语,把这个例子附加到前一句上。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens its opinion with 'I'd say' and adds a reflective closing remark about novelty-seeking rather than just listing examples, showing a bit more analysis than a flat comparison.7.0的答案用 'I'd say' 软化了自己的观点,并在结尾加入了一句关于追逐新鲜感的反思性评论,而不只是罗列例子,展现出比平铺直叙的对比更多一点的分析。

Not really, no, I'd say. Young people tend to go for newer and often pricier activities, like board game cafes or escape rooms, partly because social media keeps exposing them to new trends. Older people, though, from what I've noticed with my parents' generation in Hue, prefer simpler routines that repeat, such as having tea with the same group of neighbours every evening. That said, there's still some overlap, since both groups clearly value a shared meal. To be fair, I think the real difference is just how much novelty people are chasing, not the underlying purpose.

    • FCNot really, no, I'd say. This softened opening, hedged with 'I'd say', sounds more like natural spoken English than a flat 'No, I don't think so'. A 6.5 answer typically states the position bluntly instead.这个用 'I'd say' 缓和过的开头,听起来比平铺直叙的 'No, I don't think so' 更接近自然的口语英语。6.5的答案通常会更直白地陈述立场。
    • LRkeeps exposing them to new trendsThis is a moderately natural collocation using 'expose' rather than the plainer 'show' or 'see', showing slightly wider vocabulary range. A 6.5 answer would more likely just say 'because they see them on social media'.这是一个用 'expose' 而不是更平淡的 'show' 或 'see' 的、比较自然的搭配,展现出稍微更广的词汇量。6.5的答案更可能只会说 'because they see them on social media'。
    • GRAfrom what I've noticed with my parents' generation in Hue, prefer simpler routines that repeatThis embeds an inserted comment clause ('from what I've noticed...') in the middle of the sentence before the main verb, which is more complex than a plain subject-verb-object structure. A 6.5 answer would keep the example in its own separate sentence.这里在主要动词之前的句子中间嵌入了一个插入性评论从句('from what I've noticed...'),比平实的主谓宾结构更复杂。6.5的答案会把这个例子放在自己独立的一句话里。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses a compressed appositive ('my parents' crowd in Hue being a good example') instead of a full clause, and closes with the evaluative, slightly idiomatic 'ultimately just after company and conversation'.7.5的答案用一个压缩的同位语('my parents' crowd in Hue being a good example')取代了完整的从句,并以颇具评价性、略带习语色彩的 'ultimately just after company and conversation' 收尾。

Not entirely, no. Young people gravitate toward newer, often pricier pursuits, board game cafes, escape rooms, that sort of thing, largely because social media bombards them with trends constantly, making novelty itself feel like the whole point of a night out. Older generations, my parents' crowd in Hue being a good example, favour simpler, well-worn routines instead, like a nightly tea session with the very same neighbours, repeated almost ritually. There's overlap too, though: both groups still rate a shared meal above almost anything else. If anything, I'd say the gap comes down to novelty-seeking rather than any real difference in purpose, since everyone, young or old, is ultimately just after company and conversation.

    • FCOlder generations, my parents' crowd in Hue being a good example, favour simpler, well-worn routines insteadThe inserted absolute phrase 'my parents' crowd in Hue being a good example' compresses an example into the middle of the sentence without a separate clause. A 6.5 answer would use a full separate sentence starting with 'For example'.插入的独立结构短语 'my parents' crowd in Hue being a good example' 把一个例子压缩进句子中间,而不需要单独的从句。6.5的答案会用一个以 'For example' 开头的完整独立句子。
    • LRbombards them with trends constantlyThis is a vivid, less common verb choice ('bombards') in place of a plain verb like 'shows', giving a stronger image of constant exposure. A 6.5 answer would use the much plainer 'because they see them on social media'.这是一个生动、不太常见的动词选择('bombards'),取代了像 'shows' 这样平实的动词,营造出持续被信息轰炸的更强烈画面。6.5的答案会用简单得多的 'because they see them on social media'。
    • GRAboard game cafes, escape rooms, that sort of thingThis list is compressed with commas and no connecting words, ending in the informal tag 'that sort of thing' instead of a full clause. A 6.5 answer would join these with 'such as' and a full grammatical structure.这个列表用逗号压缩,没有连接词,并以非正式的短语 'that sort of thing' 收尾,而不是用完整的从句。6.5的答案会用 'such as' 加上完整的语法结构来连接这些内容。

The 6.5 answer gives a direct position ('it depends on the person's age') followed by one clear reason and a simple personal example, linked with plain connectors like 'because', 'but' and 'so'.6.5的答案给出了一个直接的立场('it depends on the person's age'),随后是一个清晰的理由和一个简单的个人例子,用 'because'、'but' 和 'so' 这样平实的连接词连接。

I think it depends on the person's age. When people are young, like in their twenties, they usually spend more time with friends because it feels like their own choice. For example, when I first moved from Hue for university, I chose friends over family evenings. But later in life, when people have children or their parents get older, they spend more time with family again. So it changes, and I don't think one is always preferred.

    我觉得这取决于一个人的年龄。人们年轻的时候,比如二十多岁,通常会花更多时间和朋友在一起,因为这感觉像是自己的选择。比如我刚从顺化搬出来上大学的时候,我就选择了朋友,而不是家庭聚会的晚上。但到了人生的后期,当人们有了孩子,或者父母年纪大了,他们又会花更多时间陪伴家人。所以这是会变化的,我不认为哪一种总是被优先选择。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI think it depends on the person's age. This is a short, direct topic sentence stating the position plainly. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely add a softening phrase like 'I think it really depends' or 'honestly' before the claim.这是一句简短、直接的主题句,平实地陈述了立场。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会在论断之前加上像 'I think it really depends' 或 'honestly' 这样的软化短语。
    • LRit feels like their own choiceThis uses simple, common wording to express the idea of independence. A higher band might replace 'their own choice' with a more precise word like 'autonomy' or a tighter phrase.这里用简单、常见的措辞来表达独立这个概念。更高分数段可能会用更精确的词,比如 'autonomy',或者更精炼的短语来取代 'their own choice'。
    • GRAwhen people have children or their parents get olderThis is a simple 'when' clause listing two plain conditions joined by 'or'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer might instead use a more compressed structure, such as 'once people have children of their own'.这是一个简单的 'when' 从句,用 'or' 连接列出两个平实的条件。7.0或7.5的答案可能会改用更紧凑的结构,比如 'once people have children of their own'。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with 'Honestly' and closes with the reflective observation that preference is 'more of a back-and-forth across a person's life', adding a layer of analysis beyond a simple age-based rule.7.0的答案以 'Honestly' 开头,并以偏好更像是贯穿一生的来回摆动这一反思性的观察收尾,在简单的年龄规律之外增添了一层分析。

Honestly, I think it depends heavily on the stage of life someone's in. In their teens and twenties, friends usually come first, partly because those friendships feel more like a choice than family does. I certainly prioritised friends over family evenings myself when I first moved away from Hue for university. That balance tends to shift back toward family later on, though, especially once people have children or start watching their parents age. So rather than one being universally preferred, I'd say it's more of a back-and-forth across a person's life.

    • FCHonestly, I think it depends heavily on the stage of life someone's in.The discourse marker 'Honestly' at the start signals a natural, conversational opinion rather than a flat statement. A 6.5 answer would likely drop this and start directly with 'I think it depends'.开头的话语标记 'Honestly' 传达出一种自然、口语化的观点,而不是平铺直叙的陈述。6.5的答案很可能会省略这个词,直接以 'I think it depends' 开头。
    • LRprioritised friends over family eveningsThis is a moderately natural collocation using 'prioritised' instead of the plainer 'chose'. A 6.5 answer would more likely say 'I chose friends over family evenings' with the simpler verb.这是一个比较自然的搭配,用 'prioritised' 而不是更平淡的 'chose'。6.5的答案更可能会用更简单的动词,说 'I chose friends over family evenings'。
    • GRAbecause those friendships feel more like a choice than family doesThis comparative clause ('more like X than Y does') is more complex than a simple cause-and-effect sentence. A 6.5 answer would likely state this as two separate, shorter sentences.这个比较从句('more like X than Y does')比简单的因果句更复杂。6.5的答案很可能会把它拆成两个较短的独立句子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer closes with the vivid, slightly idiomatic image of 'a pendulum swinging back and forth across a lifetime', a more compact and evaluative way to summarise the point than a plain restatement.7.5的答案以 'a pendulum swinging back and forth across a lifetime' 这一生动、略带习语色彩的意象收尾,比平铺直叙的重复更紧凑、更具评价性地总结了论点。

It really depends on the stage of life someone's in, I'd say. In their teens and twenties, friends usually take priority, partly because friendship feels like a choice in a way family never quite does, and partly because that's when independence is being built. I certainly prioritised friends over family evenings once I first moved away from Hue for university. That balance tends to swing back toward family later on, though, especially once people have children of their own or start watching their parents age. So rather than either being universally preferred, it's more of a pendulum swinging back and forth across a lifetime.

    • FCIt really depends on the stage of life someone's in, I'd say.Placing 'I'd say' after the claim, rather than before it, gives the opinion a more fluid, spoken-like rhythm. A 6.5 answer would put a flatter 'I think' at the very front of the sentence instead.把 'I'd say' 放在论断之后而不是之前,让整个观点听起来更流畅、更像口语的节奏。6.5的答案则会把更平淡的 'I think' 直接放在句首。
    • LRit's more of a pendulum swinging back and forth across a lifetimeThis is a vivid, genuinely less common metaphor for describing a changing preference over time, well beyond plain vocabulary. A 6.5 answer would simply say 'it changes' with no figurative language.这是一个生动、真正少见的比喻,用来描述随时间变化的偏好,远远超出了平实的词汇。6.5的答案只会简单地说 'it changes',没有任何比喻性的语言。
    • GRApartly because friendship feels like a choice in a way family never quite does, and partly because that's when independence is being builtThis sentence uses two parallel 'partly because' clauses joined by 'and', a more flexible and layered structure than a single simple reason. A 6.5 answer would give only one plain reason in a short clause.这句话用 'and' 连接了两个并列的 'partly because' 从句,比单一简单理由的结构更灵活、更有层次。6.5的答案只会用一个简短的从句给出一个平实的理由。

Eating together is one of the best ways, especially without phones. My family also has a video call almost every Sunday evening, because we now live in different cities, like Hue and Ho Chi Minh City. This helps us stay close even from far away. Doing activities together also helps, like cooking or a family trip. I think small, regular moments are more useful than one big holiday, because they happen more often.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCEating together is one of the best ways, especially without phones. This is a short, plain opening statement giving a direct suggestion. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely soften it with 'honestly' or expand it into a longer, more layered sentence.这是一句简短、平实的开头陈述,给出了一个直接的建议。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会用 'honestly' 来软化语气,或者把它扩展成一个更长、更有层次的句子。
    • LRThis helps us stay close even from far away. This uses simple, everyday vocabulary ('stay close', 'far away') without any more specific or idiomatic phrasing. A higher band might replace 'stay close' with something like 'keeps us in each other's daily lives'.这里用了简单、日常的词汇('stay close'、'far away'),没有任何更具体或更地道的表达。更高分数段可能会用类似 'keeps us in each other's daily lives' 的表达来替换 'stay close'。
    • GRAbecause we now live in different cities, like Hue and Ho Chi Minh CityThis is a simple 'because' clause with a plain example attached using 'like'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely compress this into a participial or appositive phrase instead of a separate clause.这是一个简单的 'because' 从句,用 'like' 附带一个平实的例子。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会把它压缩成一个分词短语或同位语短语,而不是一个独立的从句。

The 7.0 answer uses the natural hedge 'honestly' and a 'whether... or...' structure to add flexibility, plus a mildly reflective closing point about consistency versus a single event.7.0的答案用自然的缓和语 'honestly' 和 'whether... or...' 结构增加了灵活性,并在结尾加入了一点关于持续性与单次活动对比的反思性论点。

Shared meals make the biggest difference, honestly, even something as simple as everyone sitting down together without their phones. My family still does a video call almost every Sunday evening, since we're spread between Hue and Ho Chi Minh City now, and just hearing about each other's small week keeps us close despite the distance. Doing an activity together helps too, whether it's a family trip or cooking a dish together, since it gives people something to bond over besides talking. I'd say regular, smaller moments like this matter more than one big annual holiday, because consistency builds familiarity in a way a single event can't.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCShared meals make the biggest difference, honestlyPlacing 'honestly' after the main claim gives the sentence a more natural, spoken rhythm than starting flatly with the opinion. A 6.5 answer would likely just state 'Eating together is one of the best ways' with no such marker.把 'honestly' 放在主要论断之后,让句子比平铺直叙地陈述观点更具自然的口语节奏。6.5的答案很可能只会直接说 'Eating together is one of the best ways',没有这样的标记词。
    • LRsomething to bond over besides talkingThe phrase 'bond over' is a moderately natural collocation that goes beyond the plainer verb 'helps'. A 6.5 answer would more simply say 'doing activities together also helps'.短语 'bond over' 是一个比较自然的搭配,超越了更平淡的动词 'helps'。6.5的答案会更简单地说 'doing activities together also helps'。
    • GRAwhether it's a family trip or cooking a dish together, since it gives people something to bond over besides talkingThis combines a 'whether...or...' clause with a following 'since' clause in one longer sentence, which is more complex than two short separate statements. A 6.5 answer would likely split this into 'Doing activities together also helps, like cooking or a family trip.'这里把 'whether...or...' 从句和后面的 'since' 从句合并进一个更长的句子里,比两个简短的独立陈述更复杂。6.5的答案很可能会把它拆成 'Doing activities together also helps, like cooking or a family trip.'

Shared meals make the single biggest difference, honestly, even something as modest as everyone sitting down together, phones firmly out of reach. My family still holds a video call almost every Sunday evening, scattered as we now are between Hue and Ho Chi Minh City, and hearing about each other's small, ordinary week keeps us close despite the distance. Doing something together, cooking a dish, gardening, a family trip, tends to help more than conversation alone, since it gives people a shared task to bond over. Regular, smaller moments like these arguably matter more than one big annual holiday, since consistency builds familiarity in a way a single event never quite can.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCscattered as we now are between Hue and Ho Chi Minh CityThis fronted, inverted clause is a more flexible and literary way of saying 'since we're spread between the two cities', adding variety to sentence openings. A 6.5 answer would use a plain 'because' clause instead.这个前置、倒装的从句是一种比 'since we're spread between the two cities' 更灵活、更具文学色彩的说法,为句子开头增添了变化。6.5的答案则会用一个平实的 'because' 从句。
    • LRphones firmly out of reachThis is a vivid, slightly idiomatic way of describing putting phones away, more precise and image-rich than the plain phrase 'without phones'. A 6.5 answer would use the much simpler 'without their phones'.这是一种生动、略带习语色彩的说法,用来描述把手机放到一边,比平实的短语 'without phones' 更精确、更有画面感。6.5的答案会用简单得多的 'without their phones'。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI think it is quite important, but maybe less important than before. This short sentence states the opinion and its contrast plainly, joined only with 'but'. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCmodern life, moving cities for work, in my case, inevitably chips away at how often this happensThe inserted phrase 'in my case' interrupts the sentence in a natural, conversational way, mid-clause, before the main verb arrives. A 6.5 answer would keep the example in a separate, plainer clause with 'like moving cities for work'.插入的短语 'in my case' 以一种自然、口语化的方式打断了句子,出现在从句中间、主要动词到来之前。6.5的答案会把这个例子放在一个独立、更平实的从句里,用 'like moving cities for work' 表达。

My family is a good example: my sister studies in Ho Chi Minh City, I live in Da Nang, and my parents are in Hue, so we only really meet in person a few times a year, usually at Tet. • LRTechnology helps a bitThis is a very plain, vague phrase for describing technology's role. A higher band would likely replace this with a more specific collocation such as 'technology has partly compensated'.这是一个非常平实、含糊的短语,用来描述科技的作用。更高分数段很可能会用更具体的搭配来替换,比如 'technology has partly compensated'。
    • GRAmy sister studies in Ho Chi Minh City, I live in Da Nang, and my parents are in HueThis is a simple list of three short clauses joined only with commas and 'and'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer might instead frame this list as an appositive example attached to the sentence before it.这是一个简单的列表,由三个用逗号和 'and' 连接的短分句组成。7.0或7.5的答案可能会把这个列表处理成附加在前一句上的同位语例子。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens the claim with 'I think' and closes with the reflective comparison 'a thinner substitute than actually sharing a meal', adding a bit more nuance than a flat statement.7.0的答案用 'I think' 软化了论断,并以反思性的比较 'a thinner substitute than actually sharing a meal' 收尾,比平铺直叙的陈述多了一点细腻感。

It's reduced it quite noticeably, I think, mainly because of work pressure and how spread out families have become geographically. My own family is a good example, my sister's studying in Ho Chi Minh City, I'm in Da Nang, and our parents are in Hue, so a proper in-person gathering only happens a few times a year now, usually at Tet. Long commutes and demanding jobs eat into weekday evenings too, even for people living in the same city as their parents. Technology has partly compensated, with quick voice messages on Zalo replacing some of that daily contact, though it's honestly a thinner substitute than actually sharing a meal.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCIt's reduced it quite noticeably, I think, mainly because of work pressure and how spread out families have become geographically.Combining two causes into one phrase ('work pressure and how spread out families have become geographically') flows more naturally than repeating 'because' twice. A 6.5 answer would more likely state each cause in its own short clause.把两个原因合并进一个短语('work pressure and how spread out families have become geographically'),比重复两次 'because' 读起来更自然。6.5的答案更可能会把每个原因分别放在自己的短分句里。
    • LReat into weekday eveningsThis is a moderately natural collocation using 'eat into' rather than the plainer phrase 'take up time'. A 6.5 answer would more likely say 'also take up time in the evening'.这是一个比较自然的搭配,用 'eat into' 而不是更平淡的短语 'take up time'。6.5的答案更可能会说 'also take up time in the evening'。
    • GRAthough it's honestly a thinner substitute than actually sharing a mealThis comparative clause ('a thinner substitute than...') adds a layer of evaluation onto the main statement, making the sentence longer and more complex. A 6.5 answer would likely end with a simpler contrast like 'but it is not the same as eating together'.这个比较从句('a thinner substitute than...')给主要陈述增添了一层评价,让句子更长、更复杂。6.5的答案很可能会以一个更简单的对比结尾,比如 'but it is not the same as eating together'。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens with the compact, idiomatic 'cut it down quite noticeably' and uses a fronted, verbless participial phrase ('quick voice messages on Zalo standing in for...') instead of a full clause, giving the sentence a more flexible, essay-like shape.7.5的答案以紧凑、地道的 'cut it down quite noticeably' 开头,并用一个前置、无谓语的分词短语('quick voice messages on Zalo standing in for...')代替完整的从句,让句子更灵活、更像议论文的行文。

It's cut it down quite noticeably, I'd say, largely down to work pressure and how spread out families have become geographically. My own family sums it up rather well, my sister's studying in Ho Chi Minh City, I'm in Da Nang, and our parents are still in Hue, so an actual in-person gathering only happens a handful of times a year now, usually at Tet. Long commutes and demanding jobs eat into weekday evenings too, even among people living in the same city as their parents. Technology has partly plugged the gap, quick voice messages on Zalo standing in for some of that daily contact, but it remains a thin substitute for sharing an actual meal.

    • FCMy own family sums it up rather wellThis is a compact, idiomatic way of introducing a personal example, more natural-sounding than the plainer 'My family is a good example'. A 6.5 answer would use that simpler phrasing directly.这是一种紧凑、地道的方式来引出个人例子,比更平淡的 'My family is a good example' 听起来更自然。6.5的答案会直接使用那种更简单的表达。
    • LRTechnology has partly plugged the gapThe phrase 'plugged the gap' is a vivid, genuinely less common idiom for describing a partial solution, more precise than the plain phrase 'helps a bit'. A 6.5 answer would simply say 'Technology helps a bit'.短语 'plugged the gap' 是一个生动、真正少见的习语,用来描述一种部分解决方案,比平实的短语 'helps a bit' 更精确。6.5的答案只会简单地说 'Technology helps a bit'。
    • GRAquick voice messages on Zalo standing in for some of that daily contactThis uses a participial phrase ('standing in for...') without a finite verb, compressing what would otherwise be a full clause like 'which stand in for'. A 6.5 answer would use a plainer 'with' phrase instead, as in 'with quick messages on Zalo'.这里用了一个没有限定动词的分词短语('standing in for...'),把原本可能是完整从句的内容压缩了,比如 'which stand in for'。6.5的答案则会改用更平实的 'with' 短语,比如 'with quick messages on Zalo'。

The 6.5 answer gives a direct position, one personal example, and one observed example, with the contrast marked plainly through repeated 'but'.6.5的答案给出了一个直接的立场、一个个人例子和一个观察到的例子,用重复的 'but' 平实地标示出对比。

I think technology brings people together more, but it depends how you use it. For my family, we live in three different cities, so video calls and Zalo groups help us stay close every day. But sometimes technology also keeps people apart. For example, I often see friends sitting together at a coffee shop, but everyone is just looking at their own phone instead of talking. So I think the problem is not technology itself, but how people choose to use it.

    我觉得科技更多地把人们联系在一起,但这取决于你怎么用它。就我家来说,我们住在三个不同的城市,所以视频通话和Zalo群组帮我们每天都保持亲近。但有时候科技也会把人隔开。比如我经常看到朋友们坐在咖啡馆里,却各自只顾着看自己的手机,而不是聊天。所以我觉得问题不在于科技本身,而在于人们选择怎么使用它。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI think technology brings people together more, but it depends how you use it.This opens with a plain, direct claim and a simple qualifier joined by 'but'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely open with a softer hedge like 'I lean toward saying' instead of the flat 'I think'.这个开头用平实、直接的论断加上一个用 'but' 连接的简单限定语。7.0或7.5的答案更可能会用像 'I lean toward saying' 这样更委婉的缓和语开头,而不是平铺直叙的 'I think'。
    • LReveryone is just looking at their own phoneThis is a plain, literal description with no particular vividness or precision. A higher band might replace 'looking at' with a more specific verb like 'scrolling', giving a clearer image.这是一个平实、字面化的描述,没有特别的生动感或精确度。更高分数段可能会用更具体的动词来替换 'looking at',比如 'scrolling',让画面更清晰。
    • GRASo I think the problem is not technology itself, but how people choose to use it.This uses a simple 'not X, but Y' contrast in a short sentence. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely extend this into a longer sentence with an added clause about maintaining versus replacing relationships.这里在一个简短的句子里用了简单的 'not X, but Y' 对比结构。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会把它扩展成一个更长的句子,加入一个关于维系关系与取代关系的从句。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens its claim with 'I lean toward saying' and adds the natural spoken tag 'I'd say' mid-sentence, plus a moderately complex 'whether X or Y' clause at the close.7.0的答案用 'I lean toward saying' 软化了论断,并在句中加入了自然口语化的插入语 'I'd say',结尾还用了一个中等复杂度的 'whether X or Y' 从句。

I lean toward saying it brings people together overall, though it really depends on how it's used. For my own family, scattered across three cities, video calls and Zalo groups genuinely keep us in each other's daily lives in a way that simply wasn't possible a generation ago. The downside shows up in smaller moments, though, friends sitting at the same table but each scrolling their own phone instead of talking, which I notice constantly at coffee shops here. So technology itself isn't really the problem, I'd say, it's more about whether people use it to maintain distant relationships or let it replace the ones right in front of them.

    • FCI lean toward saying it brings people together overallThis hedge is more natural and considered than a flat 'I think X'. A 6.5 answer would likely open with the plainer 'I think technology brings people together more'.这个缓和语比平铺直叙的 'I think X' 更自然、更经过斟酌。6.5的答案很可能会用更平淡的 'I think technology brings people together more' 开头。
    • LRkeep us in each other's daily livesThis is a moderately natural collocation for describing staying connected, more specific than the plain phrase 'help us stay close'. A 6.5 answer would use that simpler wording instead.这是一个比较自然的搭配,用来描述保持联系,比平实的短语 'help us stay close' 更具体。6.5的答案会用那种更简单的措辞。
    • GRAit's more about whether people use it to maintain distant relationships or let it replace the ones right in front of themThis 'whether X or Y' clause embeds two parallel ideas inside one sentence, which is more complex than a short 'not X, but Y' contrast. A 6.5 answer would likely end with the plainer 'the problem is not technology itself, but how people choose to use it'.这个 'whether X or Y' 从句在一个句子里嵌入了两个并列的想法,比简短的 'not X, but Y' 对比更复杂。6.5的答案很可能会以更平实的 'the problem is not technology itself, but how people choose to use it' 结尾。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens with the compact idiomatic 'On balance' and uses vivid, less common word choices like 'woven into' and 'crowd out', giving the answer a more precise, essay-like finish.7.5的答案以紧凑、地道的 'On balance' 开头,并用了 'woven into' 和 'crowd out' 这样生动、不太常见的词语,让整个答案的结尾更精确、更像一篇议论文。

On balance, I'd say it brings people together more, though that really hinges on how it gets used. For my own family, scattered across three cities, video calls and Zalo groups genuinely keep us woven into each other's daily lives in a way that simply wasn't possible a generation ago. The downside surfaces in smaller, quieter moments, though: friends sitting at the same table, each scrolling their own phone instead of talking, something I notice constantly at coffee shops here. Technology itself isn't really the culprit, it's more a question of whether people use it to sustain distant relationships or let it crowd out the ones sitting right in front of them.

    • FCOn balance, I'd say it brings people together moreThis compact opening phrase 'On balance' signals a weighed judgement in just two words, more efficient and natural-sounding than a longer hedge. A 6.5 answer would open with the much plainer 'I think technology brings people together more'.这个紧凑的开头短语 'On balance' 只用两个词就传达出一种经过权衡的判断,比更长的缓和语更高效、更自然。6.5的答案会用平淡得多的 'I think technology brings people together more' 开头。
    • LRlet it crowd out the ones sitting right in front of themThe verb 'crowd out' is a genuinely less common, vivid collocation for describing one thing displacing another. A 6.5 answer would use the much plainer verb 'replace' without this figurative quality.动词 'crowd out' 是一个真正少见、生动的搭配,用来描述一件事物取代另一件事物。6.5的答案会用平淡得多的动词 'replace',没有这种比喻色彩。
    • GRAkeep us woven into each other's daily lives in a way that simply wasn't possible a generation agoThis sentence embeds a relative clause ('in a way that simply wasn't possible a generation ago') onto the main clause, adding a compact time comparison. A 6.5 answer would likely leave this comparison out entirely and just state 'help us stay close every day'.这句话在主句上嵌入了一个关系从句('in a way that simply wasn't possible a generation ago'),增添了一层紧凑的时间对比。6.5的答案很可能会完全省略这层对比,只是简单地说 'help us stay close every day'。

Yes, I think it is a good use of public money, at least to some extent. My city, Da Nang, has a big fireworks festival over the river every year, and it brings local people and tourists together. Families often have a picnic along the river before it starts. But I don't think this should cost more than important things like healthcare or education, so there needs to be a limit. Smaller events, like a weekend market, might actually be more useful than one big event each year.

    是的,我觉得这至少在一定程度上是对公共资金的合理利用。我所在的城市岘港每年都会在河边举办一场盛大的烟花节,把当地人和游客聚在一起。家庭常常会在开始前沿着河边野餐。但我不认为这应该比医疗或教育这样重要的事情花更多钱,所以需要有个限度。像周末市集这样规模较小的活动,可能实际上比每年一场大型活动更有用。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCYes, I think it is a good use of public money, at least to some extent. This is a short, direct opening claim with a simple qualifier tacked on at the end. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely blend the qualifier into the main clause instead, as in 'To some extent, yes, I think it's a reasonable use'.这是一个简短、直接的开头论断,句末附带了一个简单的限定语。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会把限定语融合进主句里,比如 'To some extent, yes, I think it's a reasonable use'。
    • LRa good use of public moneyThis is a plain, common phrase with no attempt at more specific or formal vocabulary. A higher band might replace 'good' with a more precise word like 'reasonable' or 'sensible'.这是一个平实、常见的短语,没有尝试使用更具体或更正式的词汇。更高分数段可能会用更精确的词来替换 'good',比如 'reasonable' 或 'sensible'。
    • GRAit brings local people and tourists togetherThis is a simple main clause joined to the sentence before it with 'and'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely attach an extra descriptive phrase here, such as 'in a way daily life doesn't', to add more detail within the same sentence.这是一个简单的主句,用 'and' 连接到前一句上。7.0或7.5的答案很可能会在这里附加一个额外的描述性短语,比如 'in a way daily life doesn't',在同一个句子里增添更多细节。

To some extent, yes, I think it's a reasonable use of public money, especially for a city like mine that relies partly on its image and community spirit. Da Nang holds a big fireworks festival over the river most years, and it genuinely brings residents and tourists together in a way daily life doesn't, with families picnicking along the banks for hours beforehand. That said, this shouldn't come at the expense of more basic needs like healthcare or education, so there has to be a sensible limit on the budget. Smaller, regular community events, like a weekend market, might actually offer better value than one huge annual spectacle.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCTo some extent, yes, I think it's a reasonable use of public moneyFronting the qualifier 'To some extent' before the main claim gives the sentence a more natural, considered opening than a flat 'Yes, I think'. A 6.5 answer would more likely place the qualifier at the end of the sentence instead.把限定语 'To some extent' 前置到主要论断之前,让句子的开头比平铺直叙的 'Yes, I think' 更自然、更经过斟酌。6.5的答案更可能会把限定语放在句末。
    • LRcome at the expense of more basic needsThis is a moderately natural collocation ('come at the expense of') for describing a trade-off, more precise than the plain phrase 'cost more than'. A 6.5 answer would use that simpler wording instead.这是一个比较自然的搭配('come at the expense of'),用来描述一种取舍,比平实的短语 'cost more than' 更精确。6.5的答案会用那种更简单的措辞。
    • GRAit genuinely brings residents and tourists together in a way daily life doesn't, with families picnicking along the banks for hours beforehandThis sentence attaches a relative-style comparison ('in a way daily life doesn't') and a 'with' participial phrase onto the main clause, making it longer and more layered. A 6.5 answer would likely split this into two short separate sentences.这句话在主句上附加了一个类似关系从句的比较('in a way daily life doesn't')和一个 'with' 分词短语,让句子更长、更有层次。6.5的答案很可能会把它拆成两个简短的独立句子。

To some degree, yes, I'd call it a reasonable use of public money, particularly for a city like mine that trades partly on its image and sense of community. Da Nang puts on a sizeable fireworks festival over the river most years, and it genuinely draws residents and tourists together in a way ordinary daily life simply doesn't, with families picnicking along the banks for hours beforehand. That said, this shouldn't come at the expense of more fundamental needs like healthcare or education, so there has to be a sensible cap on the budget. Smaller, more frequent community events, a weekend market, say, might well offer better value than one enormous annual spectacle.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCa weekend market, say, might well offer better valueThe inserted aside 'say' after the example is a natural, slightly idiomatic way of offering a suggestion mid-sentence. A 6.5 answer would instead attach the example plainly with 'like a weekend market' before the main clause.在例子之后插入的 'say' 是一种自然、略带习语色彩的方式,在句中提出一个建议。6.5的答案则会用 'like a weekend market' 平实地把例子附加在主句之前。
    • LRtrades partly on its image and sense of communityThe verb 'trades on' is a genuinely less common, precise collocation for describing how a city relies on its reputation. A 6.5 answer would use the much plainer verb phrase 'relies on'.动词短语 'trades on' 是一个真正少见、精确的搭配,用来描述一座城市如何依赖自身声誉。6.5的答案会用平淡得多的动词短语 'relies on'。
    • GRAit genuinely draws residents and tourists together in a way ordinary daily life simply doesn'tThis sentence compresses a comparison into a relative-style clause without repeating the verb, rather than writing out a full second sentence. Yes, I think so, mainly because modern life pulls people apart. Families are smaller now, more people work from home, and there is less natural contact with neighbours than before. Without some effort, community connection does not really happen by itself anymore. In my apartment building near the river, some residents started a small group that does a weekend clean-up along the riverbank. It has really helped people know their neighbours' names. So I think small, regular activities like this work better than big events alone.

    • FCYes, I think so, mainly because modern life pulls people apart. This is a short, direct opening claim with one plain reason attached by 'because'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely soften this with 'I'd say' and list several causes in one longer sentence.这是一个简短、直接的开头论断,用 'because' 附带一个平实的理由。7.0或7.5的答案更可能会用 'I'd say' 来软化语气,并在一个更长的句子里列出几个原因。
    • LRIt has really helped people know their neighbours' names. This uses plain, everyday wording with no particular precision. A higher band might replace 'really helped' with a more specific word like 'surprising' or 'remarkable' to add evaluation.这里用了平实、日常的措辞,没有特别的精确度。更高分数段可能会用更具体的词来替换 'really helped',比如 'surprising' 或 'remarkable',以增添评价色彩。
    • GRAsome residents started a small group that does a weekend clean-up along the riverbankThis is a single relative clause ('that does a weekend clean-up') attached simply to the main sentence. The 7.0 answer lists three causes in one flowing sentence and adds the reflective aside 'to be fair' near the end, showing a bit more nuance than a single plain reason.7.0的答案在一个流畅的句子里列出了三个原因,并在结尾附近加入了反思性的插入语 'to be fair',比单一平实的理由多了一点细腻感。

Yes, I'd say so, mainly because modern life naturally pulls people apart, smaller households, more people working from home or moving cities for jobs like I did, and less of that built-in neighbourly contact older generations had. Without some deliberate effort, community connection just doesn't happen on its own anymore. In my apartment building near the river, a few residents started a small group that organises the odd weekend clean-up along the riverbank, and it's surprising how much that's helped people actually know their neighbours' names. Encouraging that kind of low-effort, regular contact seems more realistic, to be fair, than expecting big events alone to rebuild a sense of community.

    • FCit's surprising how much that's helped people actually know their neighbours' namesThe evaluative opener 'it's surprising how much' adds a reflective personal reaction rather than just stating the result plainly. A 6.5 answer would simply state 'It has really helped people know their neighbours' names' without this framing.评价性的开头 'it's surprising how much' 增添了一种反思性的个人反应,而不只是平铺直叙地陈述结果。6.5的答案只会简单地说 'It has really helped people know their neighbours' names',没有这种框架。

A 6.5 answer would use that simpler wording instead.搭配 'built-in neighbourly contact' 比像 'natural contact with neighbours' 这样平实的短语更具体、更自然。6.5的答案会用那种更简单的措辞。

The 7.5 answer opens with the fronted phrase 'Left to its own devices' and closes with the vivid, idiomatic 'a far more realistic bet', giving the answer a more compact and evaluative finish.7.5的答案以前置短语 'Left to its own devices' 开头,并以生动、地道的 'a far more realistic bet' 收尾,让整个答案的结尾更紧凑、更具评价性。

Yes, increasingly so, I'd say, mainly because modern life naturally pulls people apart: smaller households, more people working remotely or relocating for jobs, as I did myself, and less of that built-in neighbourly contact older generations took for granted. Left to its own devices, community connection simply doesn't happen anymore. In my apartment building near the river, a handful of residents started a small group organising the odd weekend clean-up along the riverbank, and it's remarkable how much that's helped people actually learn their neighbours' names. Fostering that kind of low-effort, regular contact seems a far more realistic bet than expecting the odd grand event to rebuild a sense of community on its own.

    • FCLeft to its own devices, community connection simply doesn't happen anymore. This fronted participial phrase replaces a full conditional clause like 'If nothing is done', giving the sentence a more compact, essay-like opening. A 6.5 answer would use the plainer 'Without some effort, community connection does not really happen by itself anymore'.这个前置的分词短语取代了完整的条件从句,比如 'If nothing is done',让句子的开头更紧凑、更像议论文。6.5的答案会用更平实的 'Without some effort, community connection does not really happen by itself anymore'。
    • LRa far more realistic betThe phrase 'a realistic bet' is a genuinely less common, slightly idiomatic collocation for describing a sensible choice, more vivid than the plain word 'better'. A 6.5 answer would simply say 'work better than big events alone'.短语 'a realistic bet' 是一个真正少见、略带习语色彩的搭配,用来描述一个明智的选择,比平实的词 'better' 更生动。6.5的答案只会简单地说 'work better than big events alone'。
    • GRAolder generations took for grantedThis is a compact idiomatic verb phrase standing in for a longer construction like 'which older generations had without thinking about it'. A 6.5 answer would use the much plainer 'than before' to express the same contrast.这是一个紧凑、地道的动词短语,代替了像 'which older generations had without thinking about it' 这样更长的结构。6.5的答案会用平淡得多的 'than before' 来表达同样的对比。

    • LRwe stayed there for about two hours catching upThis is workable but plain phrasing. The 7.5 answer varies it to 'we ended up staying nearly two hours, catching up on work and trading a few laughs', adding the more idiomatic 'trading' in place of the plainer 'sharing'.这种表达可以用,但比较平淡。7.5的答案把它换成了 'we ended up staying nearly two hours, catching up on work and trading a few laughs',用更地道的 'trading' 取代了更平淡的 'sharing'。

For example, last Friday I met my friend Huy at a board game café on Nguyen Chi Thanh street after work. We had bánh mì, played Codenames for a few hours, and caught up on work and random stories. It felt like a break from routine, without any family responsibilities. That said, when I visit Hue, I always prioritise family dinners. So I think most people shift between the two, depending on their mood and schedule.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThat said, when I visit Hue, I always prioritise family dinners.'That said' marks the shift to the exception plainly. The 7.5 answer inserts a stronger hedge, 'without question', right after this same claim, adding emphasis that the 6.5 answer's plainer version lacks.'That said' 平实地标示出转向例外情况。7.5的答案则在同样的论断之后插入了更强的强调语 'without question',这是6.5答案更平淡的版本所缺少的强调。
    • LRIt felt like a break from routine, without any family responsibilities. This is plain, adequate phrasing. The 7.5 answer intensifies it to 'It felt like a genuine break from routine, free of any family responsibilities', adding the adjective 'genuine' and the more formal phrase 'free of' in place of 'without'.这是平实、够用的表达。7.5的答案把它加强为 'It felt like a genuine break from routine, free of any family responsibilities',加入了形容词 'genuine',并用更正式的 'free of' 取代了 'without'。
    • GRASo I think most people shift between the two, depending on their mood and schedule.A short closing sentence with two factors. The 7.5 answer extends a similar conclusion with a third factor — 'depending on mood, schedule, and how recently they've seen each group' — a longer, three-part list.一句简短的结尾句列出了两个因素。7.5的答案则在类似的结论中加入了第三个因素——'depending on mood, schedule, and how recently they've seen each group'——变成一个更长的三项列表。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo honestly, I think most people shift between the two, depending on their mood, schedule, and how recently they've seen each group. The added phrase 'how recently they've seen each group' extends the closing generalisation with a third, more specific factor, a cohesive elaboration the 6.5 answer's two-factor version doesn't include.新增的短语 'how recently they've seen each group' 为结尾的概括性论断加入了第三个、更具体的因素,这是6.5答案的两因素版本没有的衔接性扩展。
    • LRwith no family responsibilities to think aboutThis phrasing frames the freedom as an absence of something to worry about, a slightly more developed idea than the 6.5 answer's plainer 'without any family responsibilities'.这种表达把自由感描绘成没有什么可担心的事,比6.5答案中更平淡的 'without any family responsibilities' 略微更进一步。
    • GRALast Friday, for instance, I met up with my friend Huy at a board game café on Nguyen Chi Thanh street after work, and we grabbed some bánh mì, played Codenames for a few hours, and caught up on work and random life stories.A coordinated three-verb list ('grabbed... played... caught up') is chained onto the anecdote sentence with 'and', producing one long sentence rather than the 6.5 answer's two separate shorter sentences for the same content.一个包含三个并列动词的列表('grabbed... played... caught up')用 'and' 连接到叙事句上,形成一个长句,而不是像6.5答案那样用两个较短的独立句子表达同样内容。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCbánh mì, a few hours of Codenames, and plenty of catching up on work and random life storiesThis verbless fragment list, introduced by a dash, replaces a full coordinated sentence, a more compressed and rhythmic structure than the 7.0 answer's 'we grabbed... played... caught up' construction.这个由破折号引出的无动词片段式列表取代了完整的并列句,比7.0答案中 'we grabbed... played... caught up' 的结构更紧凑、更有节奏感。
    • LRfamily dinners take priority without questionThis phrasing treats 'family dinners' as the grammatical subject taking priority, a slightly more formal and economical construction than the 6.5 and 7.0 answers' 'I always prioritise family dinners'.这种表达把 'family dinners' 当作语法主语来占据优先地位,比6.5和7.0答案中的 'I always prioritise family dinners' 结构更正式、更简练。
    • GRAIt really depends on the person and their stage of life, I'd say, though from what I see around me, most young professionals like myself lean toward spending evenings with friends, especially on weekends. The subordinator 'though' replaces the 6.5 and 7.0 answers' 'but', a slightly more formal way of introducing the same contrast within an otherwise similar opening sentence.从属连词 'though' 取代了6.5和7.0答案中的 'but',在其余部分相似的开头句中,这是一种略微更正式的方式来引出同样的转折。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCOf course, family gatherings are still important — like during Tet, when everyone makes the effort to be together. The dash after 'important' sets off the Tet example more smoothly than the 6.5 answer's comma-joined version of the same sentence.'important' 之后的破折号比6.5答案中用逗号连接同一句子的方式更顺畅地引出了过年的例子。

    • FCOf course, some families might prefer going out — maybe for a walk by the river or ice cream — but honestly, in my experience, it's those simple moments at home that matter most. The dash-set-off aside plus the inserted 'in my experience' makes this closing concession more layered than the 6.5 answer's simpler comma-joined version of the same sentence.破折号隔开的插入语,加上插入的 'in my experience',让这句结尾的让步比6.5答案中用逗号连接的更简单的版本更有层次感。
    • LRswapping stories from our week'Swapping' is a more idiomatic verb for a mutual exchange of stories than the plainer 'sharing' used at 6.5 for the same idea.'Swapping' 作为表达互相交流故事的动词,比6.5中表达同样意思时使用的更平淡的 'sharing' 更地道。
    • GRAIt wasn't anything fancy, but laughing about who would win and swapping stories from our week made the evening feel genuinely special. The verb 'feel' plus the adverb 'genuinely' gives this sentence a more precise, evaluative ending than the 6.5 answer's plainer 'made the evening really special'.动词 'feel' 加上副词 'genuinely',让这句话的结尾比6.5答案中更平淡的 'made the evening really special' 更精确、更具评价性。

Opens with a verbless fragment list ('dinner, a game, the television on in the background') instead of the fuller 'like having dinner, playing games, or watching TV' both lower bands use.开头用一个无动词的片段式列表('dinner, a game, the television on in the background'),而不是像两个较低分数段那样用更完整的 'like having dinner, playing games, or watching TV'。

Most people, I'd say, spend time with family doing things that quietly bring everyone together — dinner, a game, the television on in the background. When I visited my parents and grandmother in Hue last November, for instance, we cooked bún bò Huế together and then played a few rounds of cờ cá ngựa at home. Nothing fancy about it, but laughing over who would win and swapping stories from the week made the evening feel genuinely special. Some families, of course, prefer going out — a walk by the river, ice cream somewhere — but in my experience, it's those small, unremarkable moments at home that end up mattering most.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCdinner, a game, the television on in the backgroundThis fragment list replaces the connector 'like' with a bare dash, a more compressed opening than the 6.5 and 7.0 answers' fuller 'like having dinner, playing games, or watching TV' construction.这个片段式列表用一个简单的破折号取代了连接词 'like',比6.5和7.0答案中更完整的 'like having dinner, playing games, or watching TV' 结构更紧凑。
    • LRsmall, unremarkable moments at home'Unremarkable' is a precise, almost paradoxical adjective for describing moments that matter most, more evaluative than either lower band's plainer 'simple moments'.'Unremarkable' 是一个精确、近乎带有悖论意味的形容词,用来描述最重要的那些时刻,比两个较低分数段中更平淡的 'simple moments' 更具评价性。
    • GRANothing fancy about it, but laughing over who would win and swapping stories from the week made the evening feel genuinely special.Dropping the subject 'It' for the fragment opener 'Nothing fancy about it' is a bolder grammatical choice than the 6.5 and 7.0 answers' full 'It wasn't anything fancy' sentence.省略主语 'It',用片段式开头 'Nothing fancy about it',这是一个比6.5和7.0答案中完整句子 'It wasn't anything fancy' 更大胆的语法选择。

States the cooking-night anecdote and the closing advice as clearly separated sentences, using 'But honestly' as the single pivot between story and lesson.把烹饪之夜的小故事和结尾的建议用清晰分开的句子来陈述,用 'But honestly' 作为故事和道理之间唯一的转折点。

I think one of the best ways for families to strengthen their relationships is to set aside regular time for activities together, not just special occasions. For example, about two months ago, my parents, grandmother, and I did a cooking night on a Sunday when I came home to Hue. We chose bánh bèo, a dish none of us had made before, and it got a bit chaotic, with my dad following a YouTube video and my grandmother giving her own tips. But honestly, that laughter and teamwork brought us closer. It doesn't have to be something big or expensive, even just talking over dinner can make a real difference, as long as everyone is present.

    • FCBut honestly, that laughter and teamwork brought us closer.'But honestly' marks the pivot from the chaos of the anecdote to its lesson. The 7.5 answer achieves a similar pivot without a new sentence, fusing the lesson directly onto the anecdote with 'But honestly, that shared chaos and laughter brought us closer than any planned outing could have.''But honestly' 标示出从故事的混乱转向其中道理的转折点。7.5的答案实现了类似的转折,却不需要另起一句,而是直接把道理融合进故事里——'But honestly, that shared chaos and laughter brought us closer than any planned outing could have.'
    • LRit got a bit chaotic, with my dad following a YouTube video and my grandmother giving her own tipsThis is plain but effective phrasing. The 7.5 answer intensifies it to 'it got properly chaotic in the kitchen, my dad squinting at a YouTube video while my grandmother offered her own, quite different, tips', adding the vivid verb 'squinting' and the pointed phrase 'quite different'.这是平实但有效的表达。7.5的答案把它加强为 'it got properly chaotic in the kitchen, my dad squinting at a YouTube video while my grandmother offered her own, quite different, tips',加入了生动的动词 'squinting' 和颇为犀利的短语 'quite different'。
    • GRAIt doesn't have to be something big or expensive, even just talking over dinner can make a real difference, as long as everyone is present.A comma-spliced chain of three clauses closes the answer. The 7.5 answer punctuates a similar idea with a semicolon after 'expensive', a more formally correct way of joining the same two independent clauses.一串用逗号连接的三个分句结束了这个答案。7.5的答案则用分号在 'expensive' 之后表达类似的意思,以一种更符合语法规范的方式连接同样的两个独立分句。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCIt got a bit chaotic in the kitchen, with my dad trying to follow a YouTube video and my grandmother offering her own conflicting tips, but honestly, that laughter and teamwork really brought us closer. The single sentence chains the chaos description and its silver lining together with 'but honestly', a more integrated structure than the 6.5 answer's two separate sentences for the same content.这一个句子用 'but honestly' 把混乱的描写和其中的积极一面串联在一起,比6.5答案用两个独立句子表达同样内容更整合。
    • LRmy grandmother offering her own conflicting tips'Conflicting' is a more precise adjective than the plainer 'her own tips' used at 6.5, making explicit that the grandmother's advice clashed with the YouTube video.'Conflicting' 是一个比6.5中更平淡的 'her own tips' 更精确的形容词,明确点出奶奶的建议与YouTube视频有所冲突。
    • GRAeven just talking over dinner can make a real difference, as long as everyone's actually present and not glued to their phones. The added phrase 'and not glued to their phones' extends the closing condition with a second, more specific requirement, a cohesive elaboration the 6.5 answer's shorter version doesn't include.新增的短语 'and not glued to their phones' 为结尾的条件加入了第二个更具体的要求,这是6.5答案较短的版本所没有的衔接性扩展。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBut honestly, that shared chaos and laughter brought us closer than any planned outing could have. The explicit comparison 'than any planned outing could have' is a cohesive evaluative step beyond either lower band, which both simply state that the evening brought the family closer without ranking it against alternatives.明确的比较 'than any planned outing could have' 是一个超越两个较低分数段的衔接性评价——两个较低分数段都只是简单陈述那晚让家人更亲近,却没有把它与其他方案相比较排名。

I'd say communication with family is really important, even if you don't live under the same roof. For me, it keeps our relationships strong and helps avoid misunderstandings, especially since my parents and grandmother are in Hue and my sister is in Ho Chi Minh City. For example, last week I got a call from my mom just as I was about to order dinner with friends at a new BBQ spot near the Han River. She wanted to check in and tell me about my grandmother's health. Even brief updates like that let us support each other emotionally, no matter how busy we get. Otherwise, it's easy to drift apart over time.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCFor example, last week I got a call from my mom just as I was about to order dinner with friends at a new BBQ spot near the Han River. The plain connector 'For example' opens the anecdote directly. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers instead attach 'for instance' after the time marker, integrating the signpost into the sentence rather than starting fresh with it.平实的连接词 'For example' 直接引出小故事。而7.0和7.5的答案则是在时间状语之后接上 'for instance',把提示词整合进句子里,而不是另起一句重新开头。
    • LROtherwise, it's easy to drift apart over time. This is a plain, direct closing sentence. The 7.5 answer replaces it with the more idiomatic 'staying in touch is what keeps you from quietly drifting apart', turning the same idea into a positive statement about what staying in touch achieves rather than a warning about what happens without it.这是一句平实、直白的结尾句。7.5的答案把它换成了更地道的 'staying in touch is what keeps you from quietly drifting apart',把同样的意思转化成一句关于保持联系能带来什么正面结果的陈述,而不是关于不联系会发生什么的警告。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCEveryone's situation differs, of course, but for most people I know, staying in touch is what keeps you from quietly drifting apart.Placing 'of course' mid-sentence rather than at the start is a more flexible ordering than the 7.0 answer's 'Of course, everyone's situation is different' opener, and the final clause reframes drifting apart as something staying in touch actively prevents.把 'of course' 放在句中而不是句首,比7.0答案中开头就用 'Of course, everyone's situation is different' 的语序更灵活,而最后的分句则把疏远重新表述成保持联系能主动防止的事情。
