  • what you know about this person
  • why he/she is so popular
  • and explain how you feel about this person being so popular

6.5 分

The answer uses simple, blunt self-assessment ('What I know about him is fairly basic') and plain connectors, giving accurate but linguistically modest content typical of Band 6.5.这段回答用了简单直接的自我评估('我对他的了解比较基础')和普通的连接词,内容准确但语言表现朴素,是Band 6.5的典型特征。

The person I want to talk about is Sơn Tùng M-TP, a singer who has been extremely popular in Vietnam for around ten years.

What I know about him is fairly basic. He started as quite a young singer, writes a lot of his own songs, and mixes Vietnamese music with pop and hip-hop styles. He has his own record label now and also acts in music videos that look almost like short films. My friend Khánh, who is much younger than me, knows every single one of his songs by heart.

Why he's so popular, I think, is because his songs are catchy and modern, and young people feel he represents something new for Vietnamese music, not just copying foreign styles. He's also very active online, so fans always know what he's doing, and each new song or video becomes a big event that everyone talks about for days.

How I feel about his popularity is a bit neutral, if I'm honest. I'm not really a fan myself, and some of his songs aren't really my style, but I respect that he changed how Vietnamese pop music sounds. Khánh often plays his songs at the office, and I don't mind at all — I think it's good that young people have someone local to be excited about, instead of only foreign singers.

  • FCWhat I know about him is fairly basic. This opening functions as a topic sentence that directly answers the cue-card prompt ("what you know about him") before any detail follows, exactly the plain, front-loaded structure Band 6.5 fluency rewards — say the point first, explain after. A higher-band answer would likely fold this admission into a longer sentence with a qualifying clause ("though what I know is fairly basic, since..."), but here it stands alone as a short, self-contained statement. The word "fairly" is doing the only hedging work in the sentence, typical of the limited hedging range expected at this level.
  • LRHe has his own record label now and also acts in music videos that look almost like short films.Every content word here — "record label," "acts," "music videos," "short films" — is high-frequency and topic-general rather than specialised industry vocabulary ("imprint," "cinematic," "vignettes"), consistent with the "everyday, high-frequency words" ceiling set for Band 6.5. The comparison "almost like short films" is the one mildly more descriptive touch in the sentence, but it stays a simple simile rather than a precise collocation a 7.0 answer might reach for. The two facts are simply added with "and also," reinforcing that the sentence is built for clarity, not lexical range.
  • GRAI'm not really a fan myself, and some of his songs aren't really my style, but I respect that he changed how Vietnamese pop music sounds.Three independent clauses are strung together with the coordinators "and" and "but" rather than subordinated into a single complex sentence (for example, with "although" or a relative clause), the coordination-heavy pattern the descriptor flags as typical of Band 6.5 grammar. The structure is accurate and the contrast between personal taste and professional respect comes through clearly, but a Band 7.0 answer would likely compress this into something like "although I'm not really a fan, I respect..." to show subordination instead of addition. It's a good example of a speaker managing complex content (mixed feelings) with simple grammatical tools.三个独立分句仅用连词"and"和"but"串联在一起,而不是被整合成一个从属关系明确的复杂句(例如用"although"或关系从句),这种偏重并列的模式正是描述语标记为Band 6.5语法典型特征的表现。这个结构准确,个人喜好与职业尊重之间的对比也传达得很清楚,但Band 7.0的答案很可能会把这压缩成类似"although I'm not really a fan, I respect..."这样的说法,用从属结构而不是简单叠加来表现。这是一个很好的例子,说明说话人用简单的语法工具来处理复杂的内容(复杂的情感)。
7.0 分

The answer develops its opinion with a clear reason and a specific remembered scene (watching a free kick 'with a group of neighbours on a shared TV outside a shop'), and links ideas with natural spoken framing ('Why he's so popular, I think, comes down to...'), matching Band 7.0's comfortable mix of description and reasoning.这段回答用一个清晰的理由和一个具体回忆的场景('和邻居们围在一家店门口的电视前'看任意球)来展开观点,并用自然的口语化框架('我觉得他之所以这么受欢迎……')来衔接想法,符合Band 7.0中描述与说理自然结合的特点。

The person I'd talk about is Nguyen Quang Hai, a footballer who's been one of the most well-known sportsmen in Vietnam for the last few years.

What I know about him is mostly from watching matches with friends rather than reading much about his life. He plays as a midfielder, he's known for scoring some memorable free kicks for the national team, and he's played for clubs both in Vietnam and briefly abroad in France. He's still fairly young, but he's already seen as one of the players who helped the national team do better than it had for a long time.

Why he's so popular, I think, comes down to timing as much as skill. He was part of the team that reached the final of an Asian tournament a few years back, and that whole run gave people something to get excited about together, which doesn't happen that often here. On top of that, he seems fairly down to earth in interviews, which people appreciate, rather than acting like a celebrity.

How I feel about his popularity is mostly positive, if I'm honest. I'm not someone who follows football closely, but I remember watching one of his free kicks with a group of neighbours on a shared TV outside a shop, and everyone on the street cheering together. It's rare that one person can bring a whole street, or really a whole country, together like that for an evening. I do think some fans expect too much from him now, comparing every match to that one tournament, which doesn't seem fair. But overall, I think it's a good thing when a country has someone people can rally around without it being about politics or money.

  • FCWhy he's so popular, I think, comes down to timing as much as skill."Comes down to timing as much as skill" is a natural spoken framing device that introduces a reasoned, balanced claim, crediting two causes rather than one, instead of just asserting "he's popular because he's good". That kind of evaluative claim, delivered in natural collocation, is what gives Band 7.0 fluency its unforced, reasoned quality rather than sounding like a list of facts."Comes down to timing as much as skill"是一个自然的口语化引导表达,引出一个有理有据、兼顾两面的论断——把原因归结为两个因素而不是一个,而不是简单地断言"he's popular because he's good"。这种用自然搭配传达出来的评价性论断,正是让 Band 7.0 流利度显得自然、有说理感,而不是像罗列事实清单的原因所在。
  • LRdown to earth"Down to earth" is a fixed idiomatic collocation describing personality, common enough to be natural rather than showy, but still more specific and evocative than a plain alternative like "friendly" or "normal". That's exactly the Band 7.0 profile: mostly everyday words, with the occasional flexible idiom used with ease rather than caution."Down to earth"是一个描述性格的固定习语搭配,足够常见,听起来自然而不炫技,但又比"friendly"或"normal"这类平淡的替代说法更具体、更传神。这正是 Band 7.0 的典型画像:大部分是日常用词,偶尔自如地用上一个灵活的习语,而不是小心翼翼地回避。
  • GRAI remember watching one of his free kicks with a group of neighbours on a shared TV outside a shop, and everyone on the street cheering together. The main clause is extended by a participial clause attached with "and" — "everyone on the street cheering together" — functioning almost like an absolute construction describing a simultaneous scene rather than a separate event. Combining a full clause with this kind of participial addition, and keeping the whole thing accurate, is the comfortable complex grammar Band 7.0 is built around, distinct from the simpler coordinated sentences a 6.5 answer would use for the same content.主句后面用"and"接了一个分词从句加以扩展——"everyone on the street cheering together"——其作用几乎像一个独立结构,描绘一个同时发生的场景,而不是另一个独立事件。把一个完整从句和这种分词性补充结合起来,同时整句话保持准确,正是 Band 7.0 所依托的那种自如的复杂语法,有别于 Band 6.5 的答案在同样内容上会使用的更简单的并列句。
7.5 分

The unexpected, reflective opening to the final paragraph ('mostly relief, which sounds strange') and the precise, slightly dry observation about an industry that 'produces scandals weekly' show the evaluative sophistication and lexical precision of Band 7.5.结尾段那出人意料、带有反思意味的开场('大多是松了口气,说来也怪')以及对一个'每周都能制造出丑闻'的行业所做的精准而略带冷幽默的评论,展现出Band 7.5在评价的老练程度和用词精准度上的水准。

The person I'd talk about is Mỹ Tâm, a singer who's been one of the most popular performers in Vietnam for about twenty-five years, and who happens to come from Da Nang.

What I know about her is what most people know. She started very young, won a national singing competition in her twenties, and has released ballads and pop songs that have been the soundtrack of two generations — my mother knows her early songs and my niece knows the recent ones. She writes some of her own music, she's acted in films, and she's famous for a concert habit of going into the crowd and singing with people. She's also known for charity work she does quietly: scholarships, help for families after floods in the central provinces, things that come out afterwards rather than before.

Why she's so popular, I think, is a combination of longevity and manners. She's been good for a very long time without a scandal, in an industry that produces scandals weekly. She's warm on stage and plain-spoken off it, and she seems to genuinely like her audience, which people can tell. For Da Nang there's the extra pride of ownership: when she gave a free concert on the beach here a few years ago, my entire alley stood in the sand together, and my landlady, who is sixty, sang every word.

How I feel about her being so popular is mostly relief, which sounds strange. Popularity in Vietnam often goes to people who are loud, new and briefly everywhere, and it's cheering that the most loved singer in the country is someone whose main qualities are consistency and kindness. I'm not a passionate fan, but I'd rather my niece admired her than most of the alternatives. And I like that a city famous for bridges and beaches has one famous person who is simply a good singer who never left in spirit.

  • FCHow I feel about her being so popular is mostly relief, which sounds strange.Naming the feeling as "relief" rather than pride or admiration is an unexpected choice for describing how the speaker feels about someone's popularity, and the added aside "which sounds strange" shows the speaker is aware of, and examining, that oddness rather than just reporting it. That kind of genuinely unpredictable, self-scrutinising evaluation, going past straightforward positive description, is the reflective depth Band 7.5 fluency is calibrated to reward, well beyond a 7.0 answer that would more likely just state straightforward admiration.
  • LRan industry that produces scandals weekly"An industry that produces scandals weekly" treats scandal almost like a manufactured product on a schedule, a dry, ironic collocation that does a lot of critical work in very few words. That kind of precise, faintly witty phrasing, deployed with total ease rather than flagged as a clever turn of phrase, is exactly the idiomatic sophistication Band 7.5 Lexical Resource looks for.'An industry that produces scandals weekly'(一个每周都能'生产'丑闻的行业)把丑闻几乎当成按计划生产出来的产品,这种干巴巴、带着讽刺意味的搭配,用极少的词做了大量的批判工作。这种精准、略带机智的措辞,以毫不费力的方式自然运用,而非刻意卖弄的俏皮话,正是Band 7.5词汇资源所追求的那种习语层面的老练。
  • GRAShe's been good for a very long time without a scandal, in an industry that produces scandals weekly. The sentence builds its contrast structurally, a positive main clause ("been good for a very long time without a scandal") set directly against a prepositional phrase describing the industry's norm, rather than relying on an explicit "but" or "although" to signal the antithesis. That kind of controlled, economical contrast, letting the juxtaposition itself do the work, is a more sophisticated grammatical choice than the plainer coordinated "but" sentences typical of lower bands, and it fits Band 7.5's expectation of varied, mostly error-free complex structures.这句话在结构上制造对比:一个正面的主句('been good for a very long time without a scandal',已经很长时间没出丑闻、相安无事)直接与描述该行业常态的介词短语并置,而不是依靠明确的'but'或'although'来标示对立。这种受控、简练的对比方式,让并置本身发挥作用,是比低分段典型的、用'but'简单连接的句子更为精巧的语法选择,也符合Band 7.5对多样化、基本无错的复杂结构的期待。

Keeps each claim in a short plain sentence and signals the turn with a bare 'But', which is clear but doesn't vary its connectors much.把每个论断都放在一个简短朴素的句子里,并用一个裸露的 'But' 来标记转折,清晰,但连接词的变化不多。

I think yes, whether they like it or not. For example, my niece copied a singer's polite manners and a footballer's angry tantrum in the same week, without even thinking about it. Popular people are watched by young people who are still learning how to behave, so this creates a responsibility. But I don't think they need to be perfect in private, only decent in public. The best famous people accept this role calmly and admit their mistakes honestly. Saying 'I'm just a singer' ignores the real effect they have on others.

    • FCFor example, my niece copied a singer's polite mannersThe example opens with the stock connector 'For example'. The 7.5 answer drops this signpost entirely and states the fact directly, which reads as more integrated into the argument rather than tacked on.这个例子以套路化的连接词 'For example' 开头。7.5分的回答完全去掉了这个信号语,直接陈述事实,读起来更像是融入了论证本身,而不是附加上去的。
    • LRa singer's polite manners and a footballer's angry tantrum'Polite' and 'angry' are plain, general adjectives. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers upgrade this to the more specific 'gracious stage manners', which names a particular kind of behaviour rather than just describing it as good or bad.'Polite' 和 'angry' 是朴素、笼统的形容词。7.0和7.5分的回答把它升级为更具体的 'gracious stage manners',这明确指出了一种特定的行为,而不只是简单地描述其好坏。
    • GRABut I don't think they need to be perfect in private, only decent in public.A short contrastive sentence with 'But'. The 7.5 answer expresses a similar contrast inside one longer sentence introduced by a colon ('I'd draw a line, though:'), packing more reasoning into a single grammatical unit.一个用 'But' 连接的简短转折句。7.5分的回答用一个由冒号引出的更长句子('I'd draw a line, though:')表达了类似的对比,把更多的推理压缩进了一个语法单元里。

Uses 'To be fair' to introduce a qualifying limit on the main claim, and closes with a near-idiom ('right about the job and wrong about the effect') echoed almost exactly at 7.5.用 'To be fair' 引出对主论断的限定条件,并以一个近乎习语的表达('right about the job and wrong about the effect')收尾,这个表达在7.5分中几乎原样重现。

Honestly, I'd say yes, whether they want the role or not. My niece, for instance, copied a singer's gracious stage manners and a footballer's tantrum in the very same week, and neither of them had actually asked to be copied. To be fair, I think there's a limit — famous people owe the public decent behaviour in public, not perfection in private, and demanding otherwise usually just makes them fake or miserable. The best ones, I'd say, accept the role lightly, behave well where it's seen, and are honest when they slip up. Claiming 'I'm just a singer' is right about the job and wrong about the effect.

    • FCTo be fair, I think there's a limitThe hedge 'To be fair' signals a qualification to the main argument, a move the 6.5 answer's flat 'But I don't think...' doesn't quite manage with the same nuance. The 7.5 answer achieves a similar pivot even more compactly with 'I'd draw a line, though:'.缓和语 'To be fair' 标志着对主论点的一种限定,这是6.5分回答中平淡的 'But I don't think...' 没能达到同样细腻程度的一种做法。7.5分的回答用 'I'd draw a line, though:' 更紧凑地达成了类似的转折。
    • LRneither of them had actually asked to be copiedThis is a natural, slightly wry aside that adds personality to the anecdote. The 6.5 answer states the same fact more flatly as 'without even thinking about it', missing this small ironic touch.这是一个自然、略带讽刺意味的插入语,为这段轶事增添了个性。6.5分的回答用更平淡的 'without even thinking about it' 陈述了同样的事实,错过了这一丝小小的反讽色彩。
    • GRAMy niece, for instance, copied a singer's gracious stage manners and a footballer's tantrum in the very same week, and neither of them had actually asked to be copied. This sentence coordinates two clauses with 'and' after already packing in an appositive ('for instance'), giving it more internal structure than the 6.5 answer's shorter, simpler version of the same anecdote.这句话在已经嵌入了一个同位语('for instance')之后,又用 'and' 并列了两个分句,比6.5分回答中同一段轶事更短、更简单的版本有更多的内部结构。

Opens with a dash that fuses the answer and its evidence into a single sentence, and closes on the balanced, quotable line 'right about their job and wrong about their effect'.以一个破折号开头,把回答和论据融合成一个句子,并以对称、值得引用的一句 'right about their job and wrong about their effect' 收尾。

Whether they want it or not, I'd say yes — my niece copied a singer's gracious stage manners and a footballer's tantrum in the very same week, and neither of them had asked to be copied. Popularity means being watched by people who are still deciding who to be, and that creates a responsibility that fame doesn't simply cancel out. I'd draw a line, though: famous people owe the public decent behaviour in public, not sainthood in private, and demanding perfection just makes them fake or miserable. The best ones accept the role lightly, behave well where it's seen, and stay honest about their mistakes. Those who insist 'I'm just a singer' are right about their job and wrong about their effect.

    • FCI'd draw a line, though: famous people owe the public decent behaviour in public, not sainthood in privateThe colon after 'though' promises a distinction and delivers it immediately, a tighter cohesive device than the 7.0 answer's dash or the 6.5 answer's separate 'But' sentence.'though' 之后的冒号预示着一个区分,并立刻兑现了这个承诺,比7.0分回答中的破折号或6.5分独立的 'But' 句子更紧密的连贯手段。
    • LRsainthood in private'Sainthood' is a vivid, figurative noun standing in for 'being perfect'. Both lower bands use the much plainer adjective phrase 'be perfect' or 'perfection' for the same idea.'Sainthood' 是一个生动、比喻性的名词,用来代替"完美"。两个低分段都用了更平淡的形容词短语 'be perfect' 或名词 'perfection' 来表达同样的意思。
    • GRAThe best ones accept the role lightly, behave well where it's seen, and stay honest about their mistakes.Three parallel verb phrases are stacked in a single tricolon, a more controlled rhetorical structure than the 6.5 answer's two separate short sentences covering similar ground.三个并列的动词短语被叠加进一个三段式结构里,这是一种比6.5分回答中两个覆盖类似内容的独立短句更受控的修辞结构。

Contrasts each idea in its own 'while' or 'but' sentence, repeating a very similar pattern across the whole answer.每个想法都用自己独立的 'while' 或 'but' 句子来做对比,整个回答重复着非常相似的模式。

I think influence and power are quite different things. For example, a singer can fill a beach with thousands of fans but can't change a single bus route, while a district official can change the route but couldn't fill a small room. Influence is about changing what people want, while power is about changing what actually happens. Influence comes from attention and admiration, and it disappears when people stop caring. Power comes from law and money, and it stays even if nobody admires it. The people who have both are rare and worth watching closely.

    • FCFor example, a singer can fill a beach with thousands of fansThe plain connector 'For example' introduces the contrast. The 7.5 answer removes it and states both halves of the comparison as one flowing sentence, which reads as more naturally connected.朴素的连接词 'For example' 引出了这个对比。7.5分的回答去掉了它,把对比的两半陈述成一个流畅的句子,读起来更自然连贯。
    • LRInfluence is about changing what people want, while power is about changing what actually happens.'Is about' is a serviceable but generic way to define something. The 7.5 answer sharpens this into 'is the ability to change what people want', a more precise, formal definition-style phrase.'Is about' 是一种能用但比较笼统的定义方式。7.5分的回答把它精炼成 'is the ability to change what people want',一个更精确、更正式的定义式短语。
    • GRAInfluence comes from attention and admiration, and it disappears when people stop caring.A simple compound sentence with 'and'. The 7.5 answer fuses a parallel idea about power into the same sentence with 'while', producing one balanced comparison instead of two separate statements.一个用 'and' 连接的简单并列句。7.5分的回答用 'while' 把关于权力的一个平行想法融入了同一个句子,产生了一个平衡的比较,而不是两个独立的陈述。

Honestly, I think the two work quite differently. A singer can fill a beach with fifty thousand people and still can't change a single bus route, whereas the district official who actually can change that route couldn't fill a room. To be fair, influence is really the ability to change what people want, while power is the ability to change what happens — influence works through attention and evaporates when it fades, but power works through law, money and institutions and stays regardless. The two do meet sometimes, like when a celebrity's campaign pushes a real policy. I'd say influence is broader and shallower, while power is narrower and much harder to get.

    • FCThe two do meet sometimes, like when a celebrity's campaign pushes a real policy.Adding a case where influence and power overlap is a cohesive move the 6.5 answer skips entirely, staying with a pure contrast. It shows a slightly more developed argument, considering an exception before returning to the main point.加入一个影响力和权力重叠的例子,是6.5分回答完全跳过的一个连贯性手法,后者只是保持纯粹的对比。这展现出一种稍微更成熟的论证,先考虑一个例外情况,再回到主要观点。
    • LRevaporates when it fades'Evaporates' is a vivid, figurative verb for something disappearing. The 6.5 answer uses the much plainer 'disappears' for the same idea.'Evaporates' 是一个生动、比喻性的动词,用来描述某物消失。6.5分的回答用了更平淡得多的 'disappears' 来表达同样的意思。
    • GRAA singer can fill a beach with fifty thousand people and still can't change a single bus route, whereas the district official who actually can change that route couldn't fill a room. The subordinator 'whereas' plus an embedded relative clause ('who actually can change that route') make this a genuinely complex sentence, well beyond the 6.5 answer's simpler 'while' contrast.从属连词 'whereas' 加上一个嵌入的定语从句('who actually can change that route'),让这句话成为一个真正复杂的句子,远超6.5分回答中更简单的 'while' 对比。

A singer can fill a beach with fifty thousand people and can't change a single bus route; the district official who can change the route couldn't fill a room. Influence, I'd say, is the ability to change what people want; power is the ability to change what actually happens. Influence works through attention and admiration and evaporates the moment they do, while power works through law, money and institutions and stays whether anyone admires it or not. The two meet when influence gets aimed at power — a celebrity's campaign that pushes a policy — and when power buys influence, which governments try constantly. Influence is broader and shallower; power is narrower and harder to come by. The people with both are rare, and worth watching carefully.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe two meet when influence gets aimed at power — a celebrity's campaign that pushes a policy — and when power buys influence, which governments try constantly. The dash-set-off example inside a longer sentence about where the two categories overlap is more tightly woven than the 7.0 answer's separate, simpler sentence making the same point.在一个关于两个类别重叠之处的更长句子里,用破折号设置的例子,比7.0分回答中另起一句、更简单的表达同一观点的方式,编织得更紧密。
    • LRevaporates the moment they doThis idiomatic phrase captures both the verb 'evaporates' and a precise, economical time clause. The 7.0 answer's 'evaporates when it fades' is close but slightly less compact, and the 6.5 answer only manages 'disappears when people stop caring'.这个地道的短语,既保留了动词 'evaporates',又加上了一个精确、经济的时间分句。7.0分回答中的 'evaporates when it fades' 很接近,但稍微不那么紧凑,而6.5分的回答只能做到 'disappears when people stop caring'。
    • GRAInfluence, I'd say, is the ability to change what people want; power is the ability to change what actually happens. The semicolon joins two parallel definition clauses without a connector, a more economical structure than the 6.5 answer's 'while' sentence or the 7.0 answer's dash-interrupted version.分号把两个并列的定义分句连接起来,不用任何连接词,比6.5分回答中的 'while' 句子或7.0分回答中被破折号打断的版本更经济。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThey also gather around whoever seems to have status, like the best football player.'Also' is a simple, repeated way of adding a new point. The 7.5 answer instead uses a dash to attach a second, more specific example ('the child with the newest thing') straight onto the same clause.'Also' 是一种简单、重复的添加新观点的方式。7.5分的回答则用破折号,把第二个更具体的例子('the child with the newest thing')直接附加到同一个分句上。

The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use the more precise phrase 'people were slightly afraid of him', which reads as a touch more deliberate and controlled.这是一个朴素、直白的描述。7.0和7.5分的回答用了更精确的短语 'people were slightly afraid of him',读起来稍微更有分寸、更受控。

    • FCAppearance plays a role earlier than adults tend to admit, and honestly, a lot of it is just chanceThe self-correcting hedge 'honestly' mid-sentence adds a spoken, reflective quality. The 6.5 answer states its points as settled facts without this kind of live qualification.句中自我修正式的缓和语 'honestly',增添了一种口语化、反思性的质感。6.5分的回答把这些观点当作确定的事实来陈述,没有这种即时的限定说明。
    • LRwho arrived first, who lives nearbyThis dash-appended pair of causes is a natural, economical way to gesture at 'chance' without spelling out a full explanation. The 6.5 answer doesn't include this idea of chance at all.这对用破折号附加的原因,是一种自然、经济的方式来暗示"运气",而不需要写出一个完整的解释。6.5分的回答完全没有包含"运气"这个想法。

    为什么是这个分数

    为什么是这个分数

I think they can point attention at things that need it. Celebrities can make a cause visible and reach people who usually ignore officials or the news. Of course, they also sell products, which is the most common but least interesting use. I think it works best when it matches who they are, like a kind singer raising money for flood victims.

    • FCOf course, they also sell products, which is the most common but least interesting use.'Of course' flags an obvious counterpoint plainly. The 7.5 answer makes the identical point with a more casual 'obviously', tucked mid-sentence rather than announced at the start.'Of course' 朴素地标记了一个明显的反面观点。7.5分的回答用更随意的 'obviously' 表达了完全相同的意思,把它塞进句中,而不是在开头就宣布出来。
    • LRpoint attention at things that need itThis is a workable but fairly generic verb phrase. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use the identical structure too, showing that even at 6.5 the core phrase can be reused — the real gap shows up elsewhere, in the flatter 'a famous singer's appeal' versus the named, specific 'Mỹ Tâm's appeal' at the higher bands.这是一个能用但相当笼统的动词短语。7.0和7.5分的回答也用了完全相同的结构,说明即便在6.5分这个核心短语也可以重复使用——真正的差距体现在别处,比如更平淡的 'a famous singer's appeal' 相较于高分段中具名、具体的 'Mỹ Tâm's appeal'。

After the floods a few years ago, for instance, Mỹ Tâm's appeal raised in a single day what the provincial appeal had raised in a whole month — the money came from the same public, but the trust and reach were completely different. To be fair, celebrities can also make a cause visible, model good behaviour like vaccination or recycling, and reach people who ignore officials and newspapers entirely. Selling products is obviously the most common use, though it's honestly the least interesting one. I'd say the influence works best when it fits who the celebrity actually is.

    为什么是这个分数

By pointing attention at something that needs it, mostly. After the floods a few years ago, Mỹ Tâm's appeal raised in a day what the provincial appeal had raised in a month — the money was the same, but the trust and the reach were entirely different. Celebrities can make a cause visible, model behaviour like vaccination or recycling, and reach people who ignore officials and newspapers altogether. They sell products too, obviously, which is the most common use and the least interesting one. The influence is strongest when it fits who they genuinely are; a singer known for kindness raising money for flood victims is believed, while the same singer lecturing on economics simply isn't.

Yes, often, and I've seen it cost a company real money. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCIt isn't completely wrong, since a manager does need to be able to lead a room. This concession is introduced plainly with 'since'. The 7.5 answer makes an almost identical concession but sets it off with a dash instead — 'a manager does need to be able to carry a room' — inside a longer, more fluidly connected sentence.这个让步用 'since' 朴素地引出。7.5分的回答做出了几乎相同的让步,但改用破折号来设置——'a manager does need to be able to carry a room'——放在一个更长、连接更流畅的句子里。
    • LRdoes need to be able to lead a room'Lead a room' is a decent but slightly generic collocation. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use the more idiomatic 'carry a room', a subtly more natural phrase for commanding attention in a group.'Lead a room' 是一个不错但略显笼统的搭配。7.0和7.5分的回答用了更地道的 'carry a room',一个微妙地更自然的短语,用来表达在群体中吸引全场注意力。
    • GRABut being likeable and doing good work are different skills, and companies that confuse them promote the wrong people.A compound sentence joined with 'and'. The 7.5 answer instead uses a dash to attach the same consequence onto a longer sentence, avoiding the need for a separate 'But' opener.一个用 'and' 连接的并列句。7.5分的回答则用破折号把同样的后果附加到一个更长的句子上,避免了需要另起一个 'But' 开头的句子。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBut they also live under constant attention, spend energy keeping their positionThe plain 'But' marks the pivot from advantages to disadvantages directly. The 7.5 answer doesn't need this connector at all — it states the costs as the next sentence in a continuous list.朴素的 'But' 直接标记了从优点到缺点的转折。7.5分的回答根本不需要这个连接词——它把代价陈述为清单中连续的下一句话。
    • LRshe also never had a private thought at schoolThis phrase is already fairly natural, but the 6.5 answer surrounds it with more ordinary connective language ('but she told me years later'). The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use the closer echo 'and, she told me years later,' — a lighter, more parenthetical insertion showing more control over where to place an aside.这个短语本身已经相当自然,但6.5分的回答用更普通的连接语言包围了它('but she told me years later')。7.0和7.5分的回答用了更贴近的呼应 'and, she told me years later,'——一种更轻盈、更具插入语性质的插入方式,展现出对插入语位置更强的掌控力。
    • GRAI'd say popularity is a good thing to have, but a bad thing to need too much.A simple 'but' contrast between two short parallel phrases. The 7.5 answer extends the identical structure with an added clause — 'and school is where children find out which they've got' — turning a two-part contrast into a three-part sentence.两个简短并列短语之间一个简单的 'but' 对比。7.5分的回答用一个附加分句延伸了完全相同的结构——'and school is where children find out which they've got'——把一个两部分的对比变成了一个三部分的句子。

The 7.0 and 7.5 answers drop 'I think' and state the same balance more directly as 'More than ambitious people admit, and less than anxious people fear', which reads as more confidently spoken.这个开头用一个朴素的 'but' 平衡了两组人。7.0和7.5分的回答去掉了 'I think',更直接地陈述了同样的平衡,变成 'More than ambitious people admit, and less than anxious people fear',读起来更自信、更口语化。
    • LRthree people show up to help without even being asked'Show up' is a reasonably natural phrasal verb, but the phrasing overall is fairly plain. The 7.0 and 7.5 answers use 'appear without being asked', a slightly more economical and polished way to say the same thing.'Show up' 是一个相当自然的短语动词,但整体措辞比较朴素。7.0和7.5分的回答用了 'appear without being asked',一种稍微更经济、更精致的说法。
    • GRABut it doesn't mean being everyone's friend or never disagreeing.A short sentence with 'or' linking two things being ruled out. The 7.5 answer expresses a similar idea inside a longer sentence beginning 'What it doesn't require is...', a more formal, essay-style construction.一个用 'or' 连接两个被排除项的简短句子。7.5分的回答在一个以 'What it doesn't require is...' 开头的更长句子里表达了类似的意思,是一种更正式、更像议论文的结构。
    7.0 分

Drops the subject and verb from the opening ('More than ambitious people admit...') for a punchier start, and uses a semicolon to place the two contrasting colleagues side by side in one sentence.开头去掉了主语和动词('More than ambitious people admit...'),让开场更有力,并用一个分号把两位形成对比的同事并列放进了一个句子里。

Honestly, more than ambitious people admit, and less than anxious people fear. There's a designer in our studio everyone likes, and when her project hits trouble at midnight, three people appear without being asked; there's a more brilliant one nobody really wants to sit beside, and he solves everything alone, slowly. To be fair, being liked at work brings help, information and forgiveness for mistakes, since most work is genuinely done through other people. What it doesn't require, though, is being everyone's friend or never disagreeing. I'd say respect matters more than popularity — a colleague who's fair and competent ends up liked enough regardless.

    • FCWhat it doesn't require, though, is being everyone's friend or never disagreeing. The fronted 'What it doesn't require' construction, with 'though' inserted mid-clause, is a more deliberate cohesive move than the 6.5 answer's plain 'But it doesn't mean...' opener.前置的 'What it doesn't require' 结构,加上插入在分句中间的 'though',是一种比6.5分回答中朴素的 'But it doesn't mean...' 开头更有意为之的连贯手法。
    • LRthree people appear without being asked'Appear' is a slightly more economical and polished verb choice than the 6.5 answer's 'show up to help', trimming the phrase without losing meaning.'Appear' 是一个比6.5分回答中 'show up to help' 稍微更经济、更精致的动词选择,削减了短语却没有丢失意思。
    • GRAThere's a designer in our studio everyone likes, and when her project hits trouble at midnight, three people appear without being asked; there's a more brilliant one nobody really wants to sit beside, and he solves everything alone, slowly.A semicolon joins two parallel anecdotes about contrasting colleagues into a single sentence, a more unified structure than the 6.5 answer's two separate sentences telling the same two stories.一个分号把两段关于形成对比的同事的平行轶事连接成一个句子,比6.5分回答中讲述同样两个故事的两个独立句子更统一的结构。
    7.5 分

Ends on a two-part closing sentence naming the people who actually suffer, a further layer of analysis neither lower band adds after making the main point.以一个两部分的结尾句收尾,点明了真正吃苦头的人是谁,这是两个低分段在陈述完主要观点后都没有再补充的一层分析。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe people who suffer are those who are neither trusted nor liked, and the ones who chase popularity at the cost of honesty end up with neither. This closing sentence adds a further category of analysis — who actually loses out — after the main argument is already complete, a cohesive extension neither lower band attempts.这个结尾句子,在主要论证已经完成之后,又增添了一层分析——谁才是真正的输家——这是两个低分段都没有尝试的连贯性延伸。
    • LRat the cost of honestyThis is a precise, slightly formal collocation for sacrificing one thing to get another. Neither lower band reaches for phrasing this economical, relying on plainer verbs like 'chase' alone.这是一个精确、略带正式感的搭配,用来表达为了得到一样东西而牺牲另一样东西。两个低分段都没有触及这种如此经济的措辞,而是依赖更朴素的动词,比如单独的 'chase'。
    • GRARespect matters more than popularity; a colleague who's fair and competent will be liked enough. The semicolon joins a short general claim to its supporting reason without a connector, a more compact structure than the 6.5 answer's separate 'I think... and...' sentence making the same point.分号把一个简短的笼统论断和它的支撑理由连接起来,不需要连接词,比6.5分回答中另起一句、用 'I think... and...' 表达同一观点更紧凑的结构。
