This answer stays close to plain, chronological reporting — sentences like 'She didn't reply for almost a month' state facts directly with little elaboration, and the closing line delivers a simple, stated lesson rather than a developed reflection.这段回答基本停留在平铺直叙、按时间顺序讲述事情的层面——像'她差不多一个月都没回复'这样的句子只是直接陈述事实,几乎没有展开说明,结尾也只是简单地给出一个明确的道理,而不是深入的反思。

The message I want to talk about is a Zalo message I sent to an old friend from university, Hà, about two years ago. She had moved to Ho Chi Minh City for a new job, and we had lost touch for a while.

I sent it in the spring, just before Tết. I had been thinking about the old days at university in Hanoi, and I found some old photos of our class on my phone. I decided to send her a few of the photos and ask how she was doing.

The reason I wrote to her was simple. We used to be very close, but after graduation we both got busy with work and slowly stopped talking. I missed her, and I thought Tết was a good time to reconnect, since everyone thinks about family and old friends at that time of year.

She didn't reply for almost a month. At first I checked my phone every day, then I stopped expecting anything. I thought maybe she didn't want to talk anymore. Finally, she replied with a long message explaining she had changed jobs and phones and had only just seen it. We talked for hours after that, and now we message every week. I learned that a late reply doesn't always mean something bad.

  • FCI sent it in the spring, just before Tết.A short factual sentence gives the timing directly, with "just before Tết" adding one culturally specific but simply-stated detail rather than any elaboration on why the timing mattered. This direct, fact-first approach to answering the cue card's "when" point is exactly the plain, on-topic development the Band 6.5 fluency and coherence target asks for.这是一句简短的事实性陈述,直接给出时间信息,其中"just before Tết"添加了一个具有文化特色但表达简单的细节,而没有进一步阐述为什么这个时间点很重要。这种先给事实、直接回应题卡"何时"这一要点的做法,正是6.5分流利度与连贯性标准所要求的那种平实、切题的展开方式。
  • LRShe didn't reply for almost a month."Didn't reply" uses the simplest, most common verb available rather than a more specific alternative like "went silent" or "left me hanging," which a higher band might choose to add emotional colour. This restraint, stating the bare fact plainly, is consistent with Band 6.5's preference for everyday vocabulary over more expressive or idiomatic phrasing."Didn't reply"用的是最简单、最常见的动词,而不是像"went silent"或"left me hanging"这类更具体、能为叙述增添情感色彩的表达,后者可能出现在更高分的答案里。这种克制、平实地陈述基本事实的方式,与6.5分偏好日常词汇、而非更具表现力或习语色彩措辞的特点相符。
  • GRAI thought maybe she didn't want to talk anymore. The sentence embeds a reported thought using the basic pattern "I thought (that) + clause," with the "that" dropped as is natural in speech, correctly formed but structurally the simplest way to report an internal thought -- a higher band might use a more hedged or nuanced construction. This is squarely within Band 6.5's "mostly simple sentences plus a few basic complex ones."这句话用最基本的句式"I thought (that) + 从句"来转述一个内心想法,并像口语中常见的那样省略了"that",语法正确,但在结构上是转述内心想法最简单的方式——更高分的答案可能会用更委婉或更细腻的结构。这完全落在6.5分"以简单句为主、辅以少量基础复杂句"的范围之内。
  • FCI learned that a late reply doesn't always mean something bad.The closing sentence states the lesson learned in one direct clause, using the plain verb "learned" rather than more reflective phrasing a higher band might use (e.g. "It taught me not to assume the worst") -- this single, unelaborated takeaway is exactly the modest, functional closing Band 6.5 answers are expected to produce rather than a more developed personal reflection.结尾句用一个直接的分句陈述所吸取的教训,使用平实的动词"learned",而不是更高分答案可能采用的更具反思性的措辞(例如"It taught me not to assume the worst")——这种单一、未加展开的收获,正是6.5分答案应有的那种朴素、功能性的收尾,而不是更充分展开的个人反思。
7.0 分

This answer adds a comfortable mix of complex sentences (the 'which was longer than I expected, so...' clause) and one natural collocation ('drifted apart'), while still explaining the wait and reunion in a straightforward, unforced way typical of Band 7.0.这段回答自然地混用了复杂句(比如'比我预想的要久得多,所以……'这样的从句)和一个自然的固定搭配('疏远'),同时依然以一种流畅、不刻意的方式讲述了等待和重逢的过程,是Band 7.0的典型特征。

The message I'd like to talk about was a Facebook message I sent to Mai, a close friend from high school, around eight months ago, after we'd more or less lost contact once she moved to Can Tho for university.

It happened just before the Mid-Autumn Festival last year. I'd been going through some old photos on my phone and came across a few pictures of our class trip, which made me think of her straight away. Instead of just letting the memory pass, I decided to message her and see how she was getting on.

I wrote to her mainly because we used to be really close, and I felt a bit guilty that we'd drifted apart without any particular reason — it was just that life got busy and neither of us made the effort to keep in touch. I also thought the festival was a natural moment to reconnect, since it's the kind of time when people tend to think about family and old friends.

She didn't reply for almost three weeks, which was longer than I expected, so I checked my phone more often than I'd like to admit at first, wondering if I'd said something wrong or if she just wasn't interested anymore. Eventually she messaged back with a long explanation — her phone had broken and she'd only just set up a new one, so she hadn't seen anything for weeks.

Once we started chatting again, it felt like no time had passed at all, and we ended up talking for almost two hours that evening. We still message quite regularly now, and looking back, I've realised that a slow reply doesn't necessarily mean someone doesn't care.

  • FCInstead of just letting the memory pass, I decided to message her and see how she was getting on.The phrase 'instead of just letting the memory pass' explicitly names the alternative the speaker chose not to take, making the link between finding old photos and deciding to message Mai a deliberate narrative choice rather than an unexplained jump -- the kind of extra linking development the 7.0 fluency descriptor rewards. It reads as natural spoken reasoning rather than a formulaic connector like 'therefore', keeping the story about reconnecting before the Mid-Autumn Festival grounded and personal.短语'instead of just letting the memory pass'明确点出了说话者没有选择的那条路,把"翻到旧照片"和"决定给梅(Mai)发消息"之间的联系,变成了一个刻意的叙事选择,而不是一次没有解释的跳跃——这正是7.0分流利度描述所看重的那种额外的连接性展开。它读起来像是自然的口头推理,而不是像'therefore'这样公式化的连接词,让中秋节前重新联系这段故事显得真实而个人化。
  • LRwe'd drifted apart'Drifted apart' is a natural collocation for describing a friendship fading without conflict, more precise than a plain equivalent like 'we stopped talking' that a 6.5 answer would likely use, while still being common enough to carry no error risk. This fits the 7.0 descriptor's target of a few flexible, well-chosen phrases layered over otherwise everyday vocabulary, and it accurately captures the passive, no-one's-fault nature of losing touch with Mai after she moved to Can Tho.'Drifted apart'是一个描述友谊在没有冲突的情况下逐渐淡去的自然搭配,比6.5分答案很可能会用的平淡说法'we stopped talking'更精准,同时又足够常见,不会带来出错风险。这符合7.0分描述"在日常词汇基础上点缀几个精心挑选的灵活短语"的目标,也准确捕捉到了梅搬去芹苴后彼此渐行渐远、并非任何一方过错的那种被动性质。
  • GRAwhich was longer than I expected, so I checked my phone more often than I'd like to admitA non-defining relative clause ('which was longer than I expected') is chained into a result clause with 'so', and the sentence closes with a self-deprecating comparative ('more often than I'd like to admit'), all handled accurately within one flowing spoken sentence. This layering of two subordinate structures without losing control is the comfortable complexity the 7.0 grammar descriptor targets, and the honesty about compulsively checking the phone adds a natural, relatable detail to the three-week wait.一个非限定性定语从句('which was longer than I expected')被连接到一个由'so'引导的结果从句中,句子最后以一个带有自嘲意味的比较结构('more often than I'd like to admit')收尾,所有这些都在一句流畅的口语句子中被准确地处理。这种在不失控的情况下叠加两种从属结构的做法,正是7.0分语法描述所瞄准的从容复杂度,而对"忍不住反复查看手机"这一点的坦诚,也为这三周的等待增添了一个自然、令人感同身受的细节。
  • FCa slow reply doesn't necessarily mean someone doesn't care'Doesn't necessarily mean' hedges the closing generalisation, allowing for exceptions rather than stating an absolute rule like 'a slow reply means someone doesn't care', which is a more nuanced piece of reasoning than a 6.5 answer would typically produce. This hedged reflection is exactly the reason-plus-insight development the 7.0 fluency descriptor rewards, converting the specific story about Mai's three-week silence into a more general, considered lesson.'Doesn't necessarily mean'为结尾的概括性论断加上了限定,允许存在例外,而不是像'a slow reply means someone doesn't care'那样陈述一条绝对的规则,这是一种比6.5分答案通常会给出的更细致的推理。这种带有限定的反思正是7.0分流利度描述所看重的"理由加见解"式展开,把关于梅三周沉默的具体故事转化为一条更具普遍性、经过深思的教训。
7.5 分

The answer builds real narrative tension through pacing devices like the fragmented 'Then nothing. A week, two, four.' and closes on an unexpected, vivid concrete detail (the box of dried squid) rather than a stated moral, both hallmarks of Band 7.5 fluency and lexical control.这段回答通过节奏营造出了真正的叙事张力,比如刻意断句的'然后就没了消息。一周,两周,四周。'并且没有用一句道理来收尾,而是以一个出人意料、生动具体的细节(那盒干鱿鱼)作结——这两点都是Band 7.5流利度和词汇掌控力的典型标志。

The message I'd describe was an email I sent last summer to a type designer in Japan, an elderly man whose typeface I wanted to use for a client's brand, and who took seven weeks to reply.

When it happened was July, in the middle of the seafood branding project I'd been working on since the fish-market shoot. I'd found a typeface online — a slightly rough, handmade-looking script that reminded me of the painted signs on the fishing boats — and discovered it had been drawn thirty years earlier by a designer in Kanazawa who had no website, no agent, and one email address.

Who I wrote to, then, was a man I knew almost nothing about, in a language I don't speak, using a translation tool. I explained who I was, what the brand was, why his letters suited it, and asked what a licence would cost.

Why I wrote was partly professional correctness — using a font without permission is theft, and the studio doesn't do it — and partly that nothing else looked right. I'd tried eleven alternatives. The client, who had never heard of typography, kept pointing at his and saying 'that one'.

Then nothing. A week, two, four. I sent one gentle follow-up at three weeks and got silence again. By week six I'd redesigned the whole brand with a different typeface and was preparing to show it. In week seven, a reply arrived, written in careful English by his daughter, explaining that her father was eighty-one, checked his email roughly once a season, and had been delighted to learn that his letters were wanted for boats in Vietnam. The licence fee, she said, was a box of dried squid, which he'd once eaten in Da Nang in the 1990s and had never forgotten. I sent two. The brand launched with his typeface. We still exchange a message every New Year, and I've learned to wait.

  • LRusing a font without permission is theftCalling unlicensed font use 'theft' is a deliberately blunt, moralised word choice -- far stronger and more precise than a safer phrase like 'not allowed' or 'against the rules' that a 7.0 answer would likely use -- and it's dropped in as a professional conviction rather than flagged as dramatic. This kind of precise, slightly provocative vocabulary, used naturally and without over-explaining, is exactly what the 7.5 lexical descriptor means by several precise or less-common words deployed with control.把未经授权使用字体称为'theft',是一种故意直白、带有道德批判色彩的措辞选择——比7.0分答案很可能会用的更安全的说法'not allowed'或'against the rules'要强烈、精确得多——而且它是作为一种职业上的坚定信念被自然带出的,而非刻意渲染的戏剧化表达。这种精确、略带挑衅意味的词汇,用得自然而不过度解释,正是7.5分词汇描述所说的"若干精确或不常见词汇的受控运用"。
  • GRAIn week seven, a reply arrived, written in careful English by his daughterFronting the time phrase 'In week seven' for emphasis, then attaching a past-participial clause ('written in careful English by his daughter') to the noun 'reply', packs two distinct grammatical devices into one clean sentence without any errors -- exactly the varied, controlled complexity the 7.5 grammar descriptor asks for, layered on top of the semicolons and relative clauses used elsewhere in the same story. A 7.0 answer would more likely state this information across two plainer sentences.把时间状语'In week seven'提前以示强调,再把一个过去分词从句('written in careful English by his daughter')附加到名词'reply'上,在一句干净利落的句子里融入了两种不同的语法手段,且没有任何错误——这正是7.5分语法描述所要求的那种多样化、受控的复杂结构,叠加在同一故事中其他地方使用的分号和定语从句之上。7.0分的答案更可能会用两个较为平淡的句子来表达这些信息。
  • FCThen nothing. A week, two, four.Breaking the narrative into sentence fragments here -- 'Then nothing', then a bare list of week-counts -- deliberately slows the pacing to mimic the waiting itself, a stylistic choice made possible by confidence rather than a grammatical requirement. This kind of controlled fluency device, used for effect rather than by accident, is characteristic of the reflective, well-shaped delivery the 7.5 fluency descriptor rewards, going beyond the straightforward narration a 7.0 answer would use for the same stretch of silence.在这里把叙述打散成句子片段——'Then nothing',接着是一串赤裸裸的周数列表——刻意放慢节奏,以模拟等待本身的感觉,这是一种由自信驱动、而非语法要求所致的文体选择。这种有意为之、用以营造效果而非无心为之的受控流利手段,正是7.5分流利度描述所看重的那种富有反思、精心打磨的表达方式,远超7.0分答案在描述同一段沉默时期时会采用的直白叙述。
  • LRThe licence fee, she said, was a box of dried squidStating the payment as 'a box of dried squid' with no further comment lets the surprising, warm detail speak for itself rather than being explained or exclaimed over, which is a subtle control of tone that a 7.0 answer would be less likely to attempt, more likely adding 'which was funny' or similar. This dry, understated delivery of an unexpected concrete fact is exactly the kind of idiomatic control the 7.5 descriptor rewards, and it rewards the listener for following the whole seven-week wait.把报酬说成'a box of dried squid',不加任何额外评论,让这个意外而温暖的细节自己说话,而不是被解释或惊叹出来,这是一种7.0分答案不太可能尝试的微妙语气把控,后者更可能会补上一句'which was funny'之类的话。这种对意外具体事实的干脆、含蓄的处理方式,正是7.5分描述所看重的那种地道的语言掌控力,也是对听众耐心跟随整整七周等待的一种回报。

The 6.5 answer opens with a direct claim ("There are many reasons") and lists causes one after another with "Other people are... Some people wait...", closing with a personal example.6.5分范文以一个直接的论断开头("There are many reasons"),然后用"Other people are... Some people wait..."这样的句式逐一列出原因,最后以一个个人例子收尾。

There are many reasons, from innocent to avoiding the message. A Japanese designer I know replied late because he only checks his email once a season, so nothing in his life feels urgent. Other people are busy with too many messages, and yours is just one of many. Some people wait until they can answer properly instead of quickly, which feels polite but seems like silence. I also have a drafts folder full of replies I am 'thinking about', which is my own way of avoiding messages that need a difficult answer.

    • FCOther people are busy with too many messages, and yours is just one of manyThis plain sentence, linked with the basic connector "and", states a fact in the most direct way, typical of 6.5's straightforward, unembellished coherence.这个简单的句子用基础连接词"and"连接,以最直接的方式陈述了一个事实,体现出6.5分典型的直白、不加修饰的连贯性。
    • LROther people are busy with too many messages"Busy with too many messages" is plain, functional phrasing; a higher band would reach for a more vivid phrase like "drowning in messages", which the 7.0/7.5 versions use."Busy with too many messages"是一种平实、功能性的表达;更高分段会选用像"drowning in messages"这样更生动的说法,7.0/7.5版本中正是如此使用的。
    • GRAI also have a drafts folder full of replies I am 'thinking about', which is my own way of avoiding messages that need a difficult answer. This long sentence links two ideas with a plain "which" clause, a workable but fairly straightforward structure typical of 6.5.这个长句用一个简单的"which"从句连接两个想法,这种结构虽然可行,但相当直白,是6.5分的典型特征。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with a fronted phrase, "For reasons ranging from the innocent to the avoidant", and uses the vivid idiom "drowning in messages", a step beyond the flatter, more direct 6.5 opening.7.0分范文以一个前置短语开头,"For reasons ranging from the innocent to the avoidant",并使用了生动的习语"drowning in messages",比6.5分更平直、更直接的开头更进一步。

For reasons ranging from the innocent to the avoidant, honestly. The Japanese designer replied late because he checks email once a season, and his life is arranged so that nothing in it is urgent — some people simply live at a different speed. Others are drowning in messages and yours is one of two hundred. Some are waiting until they can answer properly rather than quickly, which is respectful but reads as silence. I have a drafts folder of replies I'm 'thinking about', which is my own version of avoidance — a message that needs a decision gets postponed.

    • FCFor reasons ranging from the innocent to the avoidant, honestlyThe trailing hedge "honestly" attached to the fronted opening phrase is a natural conversational marker the 6.5 answer's plainer, unhedged opening sentence doesn't include.附加在前置开头短语后面的缓冲词"honestly"是一个自然的口语标记,而6.5分答案更平实、没有缓冲语的开头句中并没有使用。
    • LROthers are drowning in messages and yours is one of two hundred"Drowning in messages" is a vivid, figurative phrase for being overwhelmed, well beyond the plain "busy with too many messages" used at 6.5."Drowning in messages"是一个生动的比喻性表达,用来形容被信息淹没的状态,远胜于6.5分中使用的平实说法"busy with too many messages"。
    • GRAwhich is respectful but reads as silenceThe contrast structure "respectful but reads as silence" is a moderately more developed way of expressing the tension than the plainer "which feels polite but seems like silence" sentence used at 6.5.对比结构"respectful but reads as silence"是一种比6.5分中更平实的"which feels polite but seems like silence"句子更进一步发展的表达张力的方式。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses a fronted participial phrase, "his whole life arranged so that nothing in it counts as urgent", and closes with the colon-introduced restatement "my own quiet form of avoidance: anything requiring a decision or an apology just gets postponed indefinitely".7.5分范文使用了一个前置的分词短语,"his whole life arranged so that nothing in it counts as urgent",并以冒号引出的重述句"my own quiet form of avoidance: anything requiring a decision or an apology just gets postponed indefinitely"收尾。

For reasons that range from the entirely innocent to the quietly avoidant. The Japanese designer I correspond with replied late because he checks email once a season, his whole life arranged so that nothing in it counts as urgent — some people simply operate at a different speed altogether. Others are drowning under a backlog and your message is one of two hundred sitting there. Some hold off until they can answer properly rather than quickly, which is well-intentioned but reads, from the outside, as silence. I keep a drafts folder of replies I'm supposedly 'thinking about', my own quiet form of avoidance: anything requiring a decision or an apology just gets postponed indefinitely.

    • FCmy own quiet form of avoidance: anything requiring a decision or an apology just gets postponed indefinitelyThe colon expanding the closing noun phrase into a precise final restatement is a more sophisticated, essay-like move than the plainer "which is my own way of avoiding" clause used at 6.5.用冒号将结尾的名词短语展开为一个精确的最终重述,这是一种比6.5分中更平实的"which is my own way of avoiding"从句更成熟、更具论说文风格的写作手法。
    • LROthers are drowning under a backlog and your message is one of two hundred sitting there"A backlog" is a precise, slightly technical word for accumulated unanswered messages, a step beyond the plainer "drowning in messages" phrasing used at 7.0."A backlog"是一个精确、略带专业色彩的词,用来指积压的未回复信息,比7.0分中更平实的"drowning in messages"说法更进一步。
    • GRAhis whole life arranged so that nothing in it counts as urgentThis participial phrase ("his whole life arranged so that...") compresses an entire separate clause into the main sentence, a more economical construction than the coordinated "and his life is arranged so that" clause used at 7.0.这个分词短语("his whole life arranged so that...")把原本独立的一整个从句压缩进主句中,是一种比7.0分中并列的"and his life is arranged so that"从句更精炼的结构。

The 6.5 answer opens with a direct recommendation ("I think you should follow up once") and closes with a simple warning introduced by "I think people should avoid".6.5分范文以一个直接的建议开头("I think you should follow up once"),并以"I think people should avoid"引出的简单警示收尾。

I think you should follow up once, kindly, and then continue with a plan that does not depend on the reply. I once sent one gentle follow-up after three weeks, thinking my message had been lost, and then made a backup plan so my project was not stuck waiting on a stranger. The reply actually came anyway after that. Checking that the message really arrived is also worth doing, since addresses can change. I think people should avoid sending an angry message, because that can end a relationship that patience might have saved.

    • FCI think people should avoid sending an angry message, because that can end a relationship that patience might have savedThis closing sentence, using the plain phrase "I think people should avoid", delivers the final warning in the most direct way, typical of 6.5's unembellished coherence.这个结尾句用平实的短语"I think people should avoid"以最直接的方式传达了最后的警示,体现了6.5分典型的不加修饰的连贯性。
    • LRChecking that the message really arrived is also worth doing"Really arrived" is plain, functional phrasing; a higher band would reach for a more precise word like "actually arrived", used similarly across bands but with more varied surrounding vocabulary at higher bands such as "filters eat things"."Really arrived"是一种平实、功能性的表达;更高分段会选用更精确的词,如"actually arrived",这个词在各分段中用法相似,但更高分段周围会搭配更丰富多样的词汇,比如"filters eat things"。
    • GRAThe reply actually came anyway after that. This short, separate sentence tacked on after the main example is typical of 6.5-level sentence variety, adding a detail as its own simple statement rather than folding it into a longer sentence.这个附加在主要例子后面的简短独立句子,是6.5分典型的句式变化方式,它把一个细节作为独立的简单陈述加进来,而不是把它融入一个更长的句子中。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with the imperative "Follow up once, kindly" instead of a hedged recommendation, and uses the vivid metaphor "hostage to a stranger's inbox", a step beyond the plainer 6.5 phrasing.7.0分范文以祈使句"Follow up once, kindly"开头,而不是用委婉的建议句式,并使用了生动的比喻"hostage to a stranger's inbox",比6.5分更平实的表达更进一步。

Follow up once, kindly, and then get on with a plan that doesn't need the reply, I'd say. I sent one gentle follow-up at three weeks, assuming my message had been lost rather than ignored, and then designed an alternative so that my project wasn't hostage to a stranger's inbox — and the reply came anyway. A second channel sometimes helps too, a call after a message, or a mutual contact. Checking that the message actually arrived is worth doing; addresses change and filters eat things. Beyond that, resist the temptation to send an angry third message, which ends relationships.

    • LRmy project wasn't hostage to a stranger's inbox"Hostage to a stranger's inbox" is a vivid, figurative phrase for dependency, well beyond the plain "stuck waiting on a stranger" used at 6.5."Hostage to a stranger's inbox"是一个生动的比喻性短语,用来形容依赖状态,远胜于6.5分中使用的平实说法"stuck waiting on a stranger"。
    • GRAChecking that the message actually arrived is worth doing; addresses change and filters eat things. The semicolon joining two related clauses is a moderately more sophisticated structure than the simpler "since addresses can change" sentence used at 6.5.用分号连接两个相关的从句,是一种比6.5分中更简单的"since addresses can change"句子稍微更成熟一些的结构。

Follow up once, kindly, and then quietly get on with a plan that doesn't depend on the reply arriving at all. I sent one gentle nudge at the three-week mark, choosing to assume my message had been lost rather than ignored, and built an alternative so my project wasn't held hostage to a stranger's inbox — the reply turned up anyway, as it happens. A second channel sometimes helps: a call after the message, or a mutual contact who can nudge things along. It's worth checking the message actually arrived, since addresses change and filters swallow things whole. Beyond that, resist firing off an angry third message, which tends to end relationships a little patience would otherwise have kept.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCthe reply turned up anyway, as it happensThe trailing fragment "as it happens" is a natural, understated closing touch the 6.5 and 7.0 answers' fuller sentences don't attempt, showing confident economy of expression.结尾附加的片段"as it happens"是一种自然、含蓄的收尾手法,6.5分和7.0分答案中更完整的句子都没有尝试使用,体现出自信而精炼的表达方式。

    • GRAresist firing off an angry third message, which tends to end relationships a little patience would otherwise have keptThe compressed relative clause "a little patience would otherwise have kept" attached without an explicit connector is a more flexible, economical construction than a fuller "because it can end a relationship that patience might have saved" clause.这个压缩的定语从句"a little patience would otherwise have kept"没有用明确的连接词就直接附加上去,是一种比更完整的"because it can end a relationship that patience might have saved"从句更灵活、更精炼的结构。

No, although many workplaces act like it is. My studio has an unwritten rule that messages should get a reply within about ten minutes, and the week I turned off my notifications to finish some work, people thought something was wrong. Quick replies make sense during emergencies or for people whose job is to respond fast. But outside of that, expecting instant answers treats everyone's attention like it is public, and this is why many people feel like they are always on duty. I think a fairer rule is to say clearly what is urgent.

    为什么是这个分数

No, though a lot of workplaces behave as if it is. My studio has an unwritten rule that messages get a reply within about ten minutes, and the week I turned notifications off to finish a design, people assumed something was wrong — the expectation had become invisible and total. Quick replies are reasonable in an emergency, during agreed hours, and for people whose job is responding. Outside that, expecting instant answers treats everyone's attention as public property, and it's the reason so many people feel permanently on duty. A fairer norm is clarity: say what's urgent and what isn't.

    为什么是这个分数

No, though plenty of workplaces carry on as if it were. My studio operates on an unwritten rule that messages get answered within about ten minutes, and the week I switched notifications off to actually finish a design, people assumed something had gone wrong — the expectation had become so invisible it was total. Quick replies make sense in a genuine emergency, during agreed hours, or for whoever's job it literally is to respond. Beyond that, treating instant answers as the default effectively treats everyone's attention as public property, which is exactly why so many people feel permanently on call. A fairer norm would simply be clarity: flag what's urgent, and accept that a reply within a day still counts as a reply.

The daughter's reply is a good model for this, a greeting, an apology for the delay, an explanation, thanks, and only then the actual answer. Respect online is mostly about small things that only take a few extra seconds. This means using the person's name, reading the whole message before replying, and actually answering the question that was asked. It also means acknowledging a message you cannot answer yet, so the person is not left wondering. And it means not writing anything you would not say to someone's face.

I once wrote eleven painstaking paragraphs to a stranger in Japan and, that same afternoon, fired off a reply to Linh's long message consisting of the single letter 'k' — the stranger walked away with my manners, and my closest friend got my trust instead. With strangers we deploy politeness because we don't yet know the rules, and there's no relationship built up to absorb a slip. With friends we drop the formality because respect is simply assumed, and most of the time that holds up fine. It curdles, though, the moment that assumption tips into neglect — friends quietly inheriting the late replies, the sharp words, the cancelled plans a stranger would never be risked with.

I think it has made ignoring people easier, but also more visible at the same time. The 'seen' mark under a message turns silence from something that might be an accident into something that is clearly a choice, which actually makes people feel more hurt when ignored, not less. On the other hand, because there are so many messages now, people have accepted that not everything can be answered, so some ignoring is forgiven that would have seemed rude before. I think technology has made ignoring normal, without really making it acceptable.

    • FCI think technology has made ignoring normal, without really making it acceptableThis closing sentence, opened with the plain phrase "I think", delivers the final restatement in the most direct way, typical of 6.5's unembellished coherence.这个结尾句以平实的短语"I think"开头,以最直接的方式传达了最后的重述,体现了6.5分典型的不加修饰的连贯性。
    • LRwhich actually makes people feel more hurt when ignored, not less"Makes people feel more hurt" is plain, functional phrasing; a higher band would reach for a more precise phrase like "left people more wounded", which the 7.5 version uses."Makes people feel more hurt"是一种平实、功能性的表达;更高分段会选用更精确的短语,如"left people more wounded",7.5版本中正是如此使用的。
    • GRAOn the other hand, because there are so many messages now, people have accepted that not everything can be answered, so some ignoring is forgiven that would have seemed rude before. This long sentence chains ideas together with "because" and "so", a workable but somewhat mechanical structure compared to the more varied phrasing at higher bands.这个长句用"because"和"so"把几个想法串联在一起,这种结构虽然可行,但相较于更高分段更富变化的表达,显得有些机械。

It's made ignoring easier and, strangely, more visible at the same time. The 'seen' receipt under a message turns silence from something that might be an accident into something that's clearly a choice, and that has made people more hurt by being ignored, not less — technology hasn't made it acceptable so much as made it undeniable. On the other hand, the sheer volume of messages has produced a quiet consensus that not everything can be answered, and some ignoring is now forgiven that once would have been an insult. I'd say technology has made ignoring people normal without making it acceptable.

It's made ignoring easier and, oddly, far more visible at the same time. The 'seen' receipt sitting under a message turns silence from something that might once have been an accident into something unmistakably a choice, and that shift has left people more wounded by being ignored, not less — technology hasn't so much legalised it as made it impossible to deny. Conversely, the sheer volume of messages now flying around has produced a quiet consensus that not everything deserves an answer, so a certain amount of ignoring gets forgiven that once would have counted as an insult. Technology, I'd say, has normalised ignoring people without ever actually making it acceptable, and a lot of modern hurt lives in that gap.

    • FCPositive for reach; uncertain for depthThis short, semicolon-joined closing sentence delivers the final judgment with a compact, almost aphoristic rhythm well beyond the fuller "I think it is positive for reaching people, but uncertain for depth" sentence used at 6.5.这个用分号连接的简短结尾句,以一种紧凑、近乎格言式的节奏传达了最后的判断,远胜于6.5分中更完整的"I think it is positive for reaching people, but uncertain for depth"句子。
    • LRthe client emails I now receive that were clearly drafted by AI all sound like the same polite nobody"The same polite nobody" is a vivid, slightly witty phrase, well beyond the plainer "the same polite stranger" used at 6.5."The same polite nobody"是一个生动、略带机智的短语,远胜于6.5分中使用的更平实的"the same polite stranger"。
    • GRAthat's a door AI opened that was closed to me beforeThe metaphor "a door AI opened that was closed to me before" compresses the idea of newly gained access into one vivid image, a more economical construction than the plainer "a real benefit AI has given me" phrase used at 6.5.比喻"a door AI opened that was closed to me before"把新获得的机会这一概念压缩进一个生动的意象中,是一种比6.5分中更平实的"a real benefit AI has given me"短语更精炼的结构。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the precise verb "prised open" and the vivid phrase "sanded down to the same smooth finish", adding the extra reflective risk about never knowing "whether it's a person or a machine", a small evaluative touch beyond the tidier 7.0 closing.7.5分范文使用了精确的动词"prised open"和生动的短语"sanded down to the same smooth finish",并额外加入了一个反思性的风险,即永远无法确定"whether it's a person or a machine",这是超越7.0分更简洁收尾的一点评价性细节。

Both, and I've already lived both sides of it. A translation tool is the sole reason I could write to a man in Kanazawa at all, and that's a door AI prised open that had previously been shut to me — across languages, for people with disabilities, for anyone who struggles to find the right words, the gain is genuinely enormous. But the client emails now landing in my inbox, obviously AI-drafted, all sound like the same polite nobody, and something gets lost when every voice is sanded down to the same smooth finish. There's a real risk people stop developing the skill of expressing themselves, and a risk of never quite knowing whether it's a person or a machine on the other end. Positive for reach; genuinely uncertain for depth.

    • FCThere's a real risk people stop developing the skill of expressing themselves, and a risk of never quite knowing whether it's a person or a machine on the other endThis extended second risk clause, absent from the 7.0 answer's shorter version, adds a genuinely reflective extra layer, showing sophisticated development of the argument right to the end.这个扩展的第二个风险从句,在7.0分答案更短的版本中并不存在,它加入了一层真正具有反思性的额外内容,展现出论证的成熟发展,直到最后一句依然如此。
    • LRthat's a door AI prised open that had previously been shut to me"Prised open" is a genuinely vivid, physical verb for forcing something open, well beyond the plainer "opened" used at 7.0 for the same idea."Prised open"是一个真正生动、具有物理动作感的动词,用来形容强行打开某物,远胜于7.0分中表达同一意思时使用的更平实的"opened"。
    • GRAsomething gets lost when every voice is sanded down to the same smooth finish"Sanded down to the same smooth finish" compresses the idea of homogenised writing into one vivid, extended metaphor, a more economical and figurative construction than the plainer "smoothed to the same finish" phrase used at 7.0."Sanded down to the same smooth finish"把文字风格趋同这一概念压缩进一个生动的扩展比喻中,是一种比7.0分中更平实的"smoothed to the same finish"短语更精炼、更具比喻性的结构。
