The reaction is described plainly and directly ('she looked a little annoyed that I kept asking her'), a clear but simple observation without further interpretation.反应被平实直接地描述出来('she looked a little annoyed that I kept asking her'),是一个清楚但简单的观察,没有进一步的解读。

The person I want to talk about is Vy, a junior designer at my studio who joined us about a year ago.

What I encouraged her to do was enter a small design competition for young designers in Da Nang. I saw the competition online and thought her work was good enough to join, but Vy did not want to do it at all. She said her designs were not special enough and that she would only feel embarrassed.

I kept telling her that the competition was not really about winning, it was about getting feedback from other designers and getting used to showing her work in public. I also offered to help her prepare her project and practise explaining it before the deadline.

At first, Vy reacted quite negatively. She said no several times and looked a little annoyed that I kept asking her. But after about a week, she finally agreed, mostly, I think, because I did not stop asking.

She worked very hard on her entry for two weeks, and in the end, she did not win first place, but she received a special mention from the judges. She was extremely happy and surprised. After that experience, she became much more confident at work, and now she often shares her ideas in our team meetings without being asked.

  • GRAI saw the competition online and thought her work was good enough to joinTwo simple clauses are joined with a plain 'and' rather than a subordinator like 'because' or 'so', which is exactly the modest, uncomplicated grammar the 6.5 descriptor expects -- accurate, but doing the minimum structural work needed to report two related facts. A 7.0 answer at this point would likely reach for a 'since' or 'which' clause to link the noticing and the judgement more tightly, but here the coordination keeps the account of finding Vy's competition plain and easy to follow.两个简单小句用一个平白的"and"连接起来,而不是用像"because"或"so"这样的从属连词,这恰恰是 Band 6.5 评分描述所期望的那种朴素、不复杂的语法——准确,但只做了报告两个相关事实所需的最低限度结构性工作。在这个位置上,Band 7.0 的答案很可能会用"since"或"which"从句,把"注意到"和"判断"更紧密地联系起来,但这里这种并列结构让发现薇参赛这件事的叙述保持简单、容易理解。
  • LRShe said her designs were not special enoughReported speech here uses only high-frequency words -- 'said', 'designs', 'special enough' -- with no attempt at a more precise verb like 'dismissed' or 'downplayed', which is exactly the plain, safe lexical choice the 6.5 descriptor calls for. It communicates Vy's insecurity clearly enough for the story to make sense, but a 7.0 or 7.5 script would likely vary the reporting verb or add a qualifying collocation instead of repeating 'said' so directly.这里的转述只用了高频词——"said"、"designs"、"special enough"——没有尝试使用像"dismissed"或"downplayed"这样更精确的动词,这恰恰是 Band 6.5 评分描述所要求的那种平实、安全的词汇选择。它把薇的不自信传达得足够清楚,让故事说得通,但 Band 7.0 或 7.5 的脚本很可能会变换转述动词,或加一个限定性搭配,而不是像这样直接反复使用"said"。
  • FCshe became much more confident at workThe answer ends on a flat statement of result -- 'she became much more confident' -- with no reflective follow-up about why that mattered or what it revealed, which matches the 6.5 descriptor's expectation of minimal development beyond one clear point. A stronger answer would likely have paired this outcome with an evaluative comment, but at 6.5 simply reporting the change in Vy's behaviour is sufficient to close the story coherently.答案以一句平淡的结果陈述收尾——"she became much more confident"——没有再跟进反思一下这为什么重要、或者这揭示了什么,这正符合 Band 6.5 评分描述对"除了一个明确要点外几乎没有展开"的预期。一个更强的答案很可能会把这个结果和一句评价性评论搭配起来,但在 Band 6.5 的水平上,单纯报告薇行为上的变化,就足以让故事连贯地收尾了。

The reasoning 'there was really nothing to lose', built on the relative and conditional clauses before it, shows the answer developing a genuine argument fluently and accurately.'there was really nothing to lose'这句推理,建立在前面的定语从句和条件从句之上,显示出回答在流畅准确地展开一个真正的论点。

The person I'd like to talk about is my cousin Thao, who's a few years younger than me and was finishing high school last year.

What I encouraged her to do was apply for a scholarship interview at a university she really wanted to attend. She'd already been accepted onto the course, but there was a separate scholarship that covered part of the tuition fees, and it involved a short interview in English. Thao didn't want to apply at all — she said her English wasn't good enough and that she'd only end up embarrassing herself in front of the interviewers.

I kept telling her that the worst that could happen was simply not getting the scholarship, which was exactly where she already stood if she didn't apply, so there was really nothing to lose. I also offered to help her practise, so we went through some common interview questions together a few evenings a week, and I tried to make it feel more like a normal conversation than a test.

At first, she reacted pretty negatively, saying no more than once and getting a bit annoyed that I wouldn't drop the subject. After about ten days of gentle pushing, though, she finally agreed to give it a try, mainly, I think, because she was tired of me bringing it up.

She practised hard for around three weeks, and although she didn't get the full scholarship, she was offered a partial one, which still made a real difference to her family financially. She was thrilled, and more importantly, she seemed a lot more confident afterwards. These days she doesn't hesitate nearly as much before speaking English in front of people, which is honestly the bigger win as far as I'm concerned.

  • GRAthe worst that could happen was simply not getting the scholarship, which was exactly where she already stood if she didn't applyA relative clause ('which was exactly where she already stood') is chained onto a conditional clause ('if she didn't apply'), both attached to a cleft-style opening, producing a genuinely complex sentence that stays accurate and easy to follow -- the comfortable mix of structures the 7.0 grammar descriptor describes rather than the denser layering a 7.5 answer might attempt. It also reconstructs the actual persuasive argument the speaker used on Thao, rather than just summarising that persuasion happened.一个定语从句('which was exactly where she already stood')被连接到一个条件从句('if she didn't apply')上,两者又都依附在一个分裂句式的开头上,构成了一个真正复杂却依然准确、易于理解的句子——这是7.0分语法描述所说的那种从容的结构组合,而非7.5分答案可能尝试的更密集的层叠结构。它也重现了说话者用来说服Thao的实际论证过程,而不只是概括"说服发生了"这件事。
  • LRthere was really nothing to lose'Nothing to lose' is a common, natural collocation that compresses the whole persuasive argument about the scholarship into a punchy summary phrase, doing more communicative work than a flatter equivalent like 'it wouldn't be a problem if she failed' that a 6.5 answer might use. It's safe and idiomatic without being unusual, fitting the 7.0 descriptor's call for a few flexible phrases layered over otherwise common vocabulary.'Nothing to lose'是一个常见而自然的搭配,把关于奖学金的整套说服性论证浓缩成一句有力的总结,比6.5分答案可能会用的平淡说法'it wouldn't be a problem if she failed'承担了更多的表达功能。它安全、地道却不显得罕见,符合7.0分描述中"在常见词汇基础上点缀几个灵活短语"的要求。
  • FCwhich is honestly the bigger win as far as I'm concernedRather than ending on the factual outcome (the partial scholarship), the answer adds an evaluative comment ranking Thao's new confidence above the money, which is the reason-plus-reflection development the 7.0 fluency descriptor rewards over stopping at bare narration. The hedge 'as far as I'm concerned' also signals this is a personal judgement rather than an objective fact, keeping the tone conversational.这个答案没有以事实性结果(部分奖学金)收尾,而是加入了一句评价性评论,把Thao获得的新自信置于金钱之上,这是7.0分流利度描述所看重的"理由加反思"式展开,胜过单纯停留在叙述层面。模糊限定语'as far as I'm concerned'也表明这是一种个人判断,而非客观事实,使语气保持口语化。

The vivid quoted line 'If I'm doing this, you're listening to it until it's good' captures character through natural, idiomatic dialogue, which is distinctly Band 7.5 in its flexibility.生动的引语'If I'm doing this, you're listening to it until it's good',通过自然习语化的对话刻画出人物性格,其灵活度明显具有7.5分的水准。

The person is Linh, a colleague at my studio who is one of the best designers I know and who, until last year, had never spoken in front of more than six people.

What I encouraged her to do was present our work at a design conference in Hanoi. We'd spent a year on an app for a hospital group, and the organisers invited the studio to give a twenty-minute talk about it. The obvious speaker was me, because I'm comfortable on a stage and had done it before. But the best ideas in that project were Linh's — the whole approach to helping older patients read their results came from watching her own mother struggle with a screen — and I thought it was wrong for me to stand up and describe her thinking.

So I said no to the invitation for myself and yes on her behalf, and then told her. She was furious. She said I'd had no right, that she'd be sick on stage, that the audience would see through her in a minute. Then she came to my desk and said, 'If I'm doing this, you're listening to it until it's good.'

How she reacted after that was the interesting part. She rehearsed the talk to me eleven times over three weeks, in the meeting room after work, and each version was tighter. She cut everything I would have kept and added her mother's story, which I'd never have dared to. On the day she was pale and her hands shook for the first minute — and then she forgot to be afraid, because she was talking about something she knew better than anyone in the room. The applause was the loudest of the day. Afterwards she told me she still hadn't forgiven me, and then she asked whether there were any more conferences. She's done three since. I haven't been invited to speak at any of them.

  • LR'If I'm doing this, you're listening to it until it's good.'This is reported as direct quoted speech rather than paraphrased, and the line itself uses a colloquial, almost threatening rhythm ("until it's good") that sounds like something a real person would actually say under pressure — the kind of idiomatic, character-revealing dialogue the 7.5 tier's "one figurative or idiomatic touch" descriptor points to. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely summarise this as "she was determined to do a good job," losing both the voice and the vividness. Quoting it directly also does double duty for Fluency and Coherence, since it makes the turning point of the story land with far more force than a flat report would.这句话是以直接引语的形式被转述出来,而不是被转述改写的,而这句话本身使用了一种口语化、近乎带威胁意味的节奏("until it's good"),听起来就像一个真实的人在压力下会说出的话——正是7.5档位"一处比喻或习语化的点缀"这一描述所指向的那种习语化、能展现人物性格的对白。Band 6.5或7.0的答案更可能把这一点概括为"she was determined to do a good job",从而失去了语气和生动感。直接引用也对Fluency and Coherence起到双重作用,因为它让故事的转折点产生的冲击力远比平淡的转述要强得多。
  • GRAshe forgot to be afraid, because she was talking about something she knew better than anyone in the roomThe clause "because she was talking about something she knew better than anyone in the room" is itself a comparative construction embedded inside a reason clause, meaning the sentence carries two layers of subordination while remaining completely accurate — exactly the "varied complex structures... mostly error-free" the 7.5 tier requires. A 7.0 answer would likely simplify this to two separate sentences ("She forgot to be afraid. She knew the topic better than anyone."), losing the causal link between expertise and confidence that this single sentence captures. The complexity here isn't decorative either — it's doing real explanatory work, showing exactly why her fear disappeared.从句"because she was talking about something she knew better than anyone in the room"本身就是一个嵌套在原因从句内部的比较结构,意味着这句话在保持完全准确的同时,承载了两层从属结构——这正是7.5档位所要求的"多样的复杂结构……基本无误"。Band 7.0的答案很可能会把它简化为两个独立的句子("She forgot to be afraid. She knew the topic better than anyone."),从而失去了这一个句子所捕捉到的专业知识与自信之间的因果联系。这里的复杂性也不是装饰性的——它在真正地发挥解释作用,准确说明了她的恐惧为何会消失。
  • FCI haven't been invited to speak at any of themThe story could have ended on Linh's triumph, but instead it closes on this dry, understated admission about the narrator's own diminished role — a wry, self-aware twist that reframes the whole anecdote as being as much about ego as about mentorship. That kind of ironic, reflective closing line is what the 7.5 tier means by fluency going beyond plain narration into genuine evaluation; a 7.0 answer would more likely end on a straightforward statement like "I was proud of her." The understatement itself, with no explicit comment on how it feels, is also a very native-like way to let irony do the work rather than spelling it out.这个故事本可以在Linh的胜利中结束,但它却以叙述者对自己角色逐渐淡化这一干脆、克制的坦白收尾——一种诙谐、自省的转折,把整段轶事重新定义为既关乎自我,也关乎指导他人。那种带有反讽意味、反思性的结尾方式,正是7.5档位所说的流利度超越单纯叙事、达到真正评价的表现;Band 7.0的答案更可能以一句直白的陈述结尾,比如"I was proud of her."这种轻描淡写本身,没有对其中的感受做任何明确评论,也是一种非常地道的方式,让反讽自己发挥作用,而不是把话说穿。

Opens with a plain "I think it's mostly when" and lists examples in short, separate sentences joined by simple commas.开头用平实的"I think it's mostly when"(我觉得大多是当……),再用逗号连接的短句一一列举例子。

I think it's mostly when something is new or a bit scary for the child. My nephew refused to join a swimming class for weeks, until my sister got into the pool herself, fully dressed, and then he followed her in. Children need encouragement for things like reading, joining a team, or trying new food, because these things don't feel rewarding at first. Parents also need to push a little when a child wants to quit music or sport too quickly. The hard part is knowing if the child is scared of something good, or just doesn't like something, because those need different reactions.

    • FCI think it's mostly when something is new or a bit scary for the child.A full framing sentence with subject and verb spelled out, clear but effortful. The 7.5 band drops the framing sentence entirely and opens with a bare fragment, "Mostly at the edge of what's comfortable", trusting the listener to follow.这是一句主谓完整的铺垫句,清楚但略显吃力。7.5分的版本则完全省去了铺垫句,直接用一个不完整的短句"Mostly at the edge of what's comfortable"(大多是在舒适区边缘)开头,相信听者能跟上思路。
    • LRbecause these things don't feel rewarding at firstPlain, functional vocabulary. The 7.5 band replaces this kind of explanation with the more vivid "look pointless from inside a five-year-old's head", a genuinely original image the lower band doesn't attempt.用词平实、实用。7.5分的版本用更生动的说法"look pointless from inside a five-year-old's head"(从五岁孩子的脑袋里看这些事毫无意义)取代了这类解释,这是一个真正原创的形象,低分版本没有尝试这样表达。
    • GRAThe hard part is knowing if the child is scared of something good, or just doesn't like something, because those need different reactions.A single sentence with an embedded "or" and a trailing "because" clause, correct but a bit loosely strung together. The 7.5 band expresses the same closing idea with a semicolon splitting two balanced clauses, a tighter structure.这是一个包含"or"和结尾"because"从句的单句,语法正确但衔接得有点松散。7.5分的版本用分号将两个对称的分句隔开来表达同样的结尾意思,结构更紧凑。

The hedge "Honestly, I'd say" softens the opening claim, and the reasoning is joined with "because" for a bit more depth than 6.5.缓和语"Honestly, I'd say"(说实话,我觉得)让开头的断言不那么绝对,而用"because"连接的理由也比6.5分版本多一点深度。

Honestly, I'd say it's mostly at the edge of what feels comfortable. My nephew refused a swimming class for weeks, until my sister actually got into the pool herself, fully clothed, and only then did he follow her in. Children generally need encouragement when something is new, slightly frightening, or takes effort before any reward shows up, things like reading, joining a team, or speaking to strangers. Parents also need to encourage persistence when a child wants to quit at the first sign of difficulty. I think the real skill is telling the difference between fear of something good and genuine dislike of something wrong, because the first deserves a push and the second deserves listening.

    • FCHonestly, I'd say it's mostly at the edge of what feels comfortable. The double hedge "Honestly, I'd say" makes the claim sound considered rather than declared, more natural than the flat 6.5 opener. The 7.5 band removes the hedge but keeps the same compact phrase, "at the edge of what's comfortable", showing hedging isn't the only route to a considered tone.双重缓和语"Honestly, I'd say"让这句断言听起来像是经过思考而非直接宣告,比6.5分平铺直叙的开头更自然。7.5分的版本去掉了缓和语,但保留了同样简洁的说法"at the edge of what's comfortable",说明缓和语并不是营造斟酌语气的唯一办法。
    • LRthings like reading, joining a team, or speaking to strangersA functional list of examples, clear but plain. The 7.5 band tightens the same list and follows it with the vivid image of looking "pointless from inside a five-year-old's head", adding a layer of insight this version doesn't reach for.这是一份实用的例子清单,清楚但平淡。7.5分版本将同样的清单收紧,并接上生动的形象"pointless from inside a five-year-old's head"(从五岁孩子的脑袋里看毫无意义),多了一层这个版本没有触及的洞察。
    • GRAChildren generally need encouragement when something is new, slightly frightening, or takes effort before any reward shows up, things like reading, joining a team, or speaking to strangers.A long sentence stacks a three-part list after "when" and then appends a further example list with a comma, slightly overloaded. The 7.5 band splits the same content into two sentences with a colon, a cleaner division of the same information.这是一个长句,在"when"后堆叠了三项列表,又用逗号加上另一份例子清单,略显负担过重。7.5分版本用冒号把同样的内容拆成两句话,信息分配得更清晰。

My nephew refused a swimming class for weeks until my sister got into the pool herself, fully clothed, and then he followed — children need encouragement when a thing is new, slightly frightening, or requires effort before any reward appears. Learning to read, joining a team, speaking to strangers, trying a food: all of these look pointless from inside a five-year-old's head. Parents also need to encourage persistence when a child wants to quit at the first difficulty. The skill is telling the difference between fear of something good and dislike of something wrong; the first deserves a push, and the second deserves listening.

This kind of compact opening is characteristic of higher-band fluency.整个回答以一个没有动词的短句开头,比6.5分和7.0分使用的完整句子更显自信、更简练。这种简洁的开头方式是高分段流利度的一个特征。
    • LRall of these look pointless from inside a five-year-old's headA vivid, original image that goes well beyond the plain "don't feel rewarding at first" at 6.5 or the functional list at 7.0. It shows genuine control over figurative language.这是一个生动、原创的形象,远超6.5分平淡的"don't feel rewarding at first"(一开始不觉得有回报)或7.0分的实用清单,展现出对比喻语言的真正掌控力。

Opens plainly with "I think the best way is", then lists separate tips one after another in short sentences.以平实的"I think the best way is"(我觉得最好的方法是)开头,然后用一个个短句依次列出各条建议。

I think the best way is to turn the task into a game. My mother made homework into a race against the rice cooker, finish before it clicks, and I did years of maths without noticing I was being tricked. Doing the task together with the child works better than just telling them to do it. Small rewards work for young children, and explanations work better as they get older. Giving some choice also helps, like which room to tidy first. Praise for effort is good, but threats and comparing children to their siblings usually just make things worse.

    • FCI think the best way is to turn the task into a game.A plain topic sentence stating the main idea directly. The 7.5 band opens with the same idea compressed into a shorter, verb-fronted line, "The best ones turn the task into something else", a tighter and slightly more confident move.这是一句直接陈述主旨的平实主题句。7.5分版本将同样的想法压缩成更短、动词前置的一句"The best ones turn the task into something else"(最好的方法是把任务变成别的东西),更紧凑,也显得更自信一些。
    • LRSmall rewards work for young childrenSimple, functional vocabulary. The 7.5 band sharpens this to "small, immediate rewards", adding a precise second adjective that captures why timing matters, a small but deliberate lexical upgrade.用词简单、实用。7.5分版本将其打磨成"small, immediate rewards"(小而即时的奖励),多加了一个精确的形容词,点出了时机为何重要,这是一个虽小但刻意的词汇升级。
    • GRADoing the task together with the child works better than just telling them to do it.A single comparative sentence, correct and clear but plain. The 7.5 band achieves the same comparison in fewer words, "Doing the thing alongside the child works better than instructing from a chair", trading "telling them to do it" for the more compact and specific "instructing from a chair".这是一个比较句,正确清楚但平淡。7.5分版本用更少的词达成同样的比较——"Doing the thing alongside the child works better than instructing from a chair"(陪孩子一起做,比坐在椅子上指挥要管用),用更紧凑、更具体的"instructing from a chair"(坐在椅子上指挥)取代了"telling them to do it"。

The hedge "Honestly" opens the answer, and the reasoning about explanations is linked with "since" for a slightly more developed sentence.缓和语"Honestly"(说实话)开启了整个回答,而关于讲道理的理由用"since"连接,句子显得更充分一些。

Honestly, the best methods tend to turn the task into something else entirely. My mother made homework into a race against the rice cooker, finish before it clicks, and I did a decade of maths without ever noticing I'd been tricked. Doing the task alongside the child generally works better than just instructing from a chair, and small rewards help younger children while explanations work better as they grow, since a child who knows why is more willing than one who's simply told. Giving choice within limits helps too, like letting them pick which room to tidy first. What seems to work worst is threats and comparing siblings, which usually produce resentment along with compliance.

    • FCHonestly, the best methods tend to turn the task into something else entirely. The hedge "Honestly" plus "tend to" softens the generalisation, more natural than the flat 6.5 claim. The 7.5 band removes both hedges and states the idea as a bare fact, a more assertive register.缓和语"Honestly"加上"tend to"(往往)让这个概括说法不那么绝对,比6.5分平铺直叙的说法更自然。7.5分版本去掉了这两个缓和语,把想法当作纯粹的事实陈述,语气更有力。
    • GRAsmall rewards help younger children while explanations work better as they grow, since a child who knows why is more willing than one who's simply toldA long sentence links contrast ("while") and reason ("since") in one breath, more ambitious than the short separate sentences at 6.5. The 7.5 band expresses a similar contrast using a semicolon instead of "while", a subtler way of signalling the same relationship.这是一个长句,一口气用"while"表转折、用"since"表理由,比6.5分的短句更有野心。7.5分版本用分号代替"while"表达类似的转折,是一种更含蓄地表达同样关系的方式。
    • LRwhich usually produce resentment along with complianceA reasonably natural closing phrase. The 7.5 band reorders the same idea into "produce compliance and resentment in equal measure", a more balanced and slightly more polished way of stating the same trade-off.这是一个相当自然的结尾短语。7.5分版本把同样的想法重新排列为"produce compliance and resentment in equal measure"(顺从与怨恨等量产生),表达同样的得失取舍时更平衡、也更精致一些。

The dash around "finish before it clicks" and the colon before the tidying example pack detail into the sentence without extra linking words.用破折号括起"finish before it clicks",以及整理房间例子前的冒号,让细节能被塞进句子里,而不必额外使用连接词。

The best ones turn the task into something else. My mother made homework a race against the rice cooker — finish before it clicks — and I did a decade of maths without noticing I'd been tricked. Doing the thing alongside the child works better than instructing from a chair. Small, immediate rewards work for small children; explanations work better as they grow, because a child who knows why is more willing than one who's just told. Choice within limits helps: not whether to tidy, but which room first. What works worst is threats and comparison with a sibling, both of which produce compliance and resentment in equal measure.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe best ones turn the task into something else.A short, verb-fronted opening sentence that states the thesis immediately, more compact than the fuller 6.5 and 7.0 openers. It lets the rest of the answer unfold as illustration rather than restating the claim.这是一个动词前置的简短开头句,立刻点出主旨,比6.5分和7.0分更完整的开头更紧凑。它让回答的其余部分以举例的方式展开,而不是重复陈述论点。
    • LRboth of which produce compliance and resentment in equal measureA precise, balanced closing phrase pairing two contrasting outcomes. Neither lower band reaches for this kind of crafted parallelism; both settle for a simpler statement that the methods "make things worse" or "produce resentment".这是一个精确、对称的结尾短语,把两个对立的结果配成一对。两个低分段都没有尝试这种精心设计的对仗结构;它们都只满足于更简单地陈述这些做法"make things worse"(让事情更糟)或"produce resentment"(带来怨恨)。
    • GRASmall, immediate rewards work for small children; explanations work better as they grow, because a child who knows why is more willing than one who's just told.A semicolon links two balanced clauses with no conjunction, more flexible than the "while... since" chain at 7.0 or the separate sentences at 6.5. The colon later in the same answer performs a similar compressing function.分号在没有连接词的情况下把两个对称的分句连接起来,比7.0分"while...since"的连锁结构或6.5分的分开句子更灵活。同一回答后面的冒号也起到类似的压缩作用。

I think being told to do something takes away the fun of choosing it yourself. My niece once said she would have done the dishes if nobody had asked her to, which explains a lot. Children are also trying to build their own identity, and refusing is one way to test it. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCI think being told to do something takes away the fun of choosing it yourself.A direct claim stated up front before the supporting story. The 7.5 band reverses this order, opening with the story itself and only revealing the claim afterwards via a dash, a more developed narrative structure.这是先直接给出论断,再讲支持性故事的写法。7.5分版本把顺序颠倒过来,先从故事本身开头,再用破折号揭示论断,是一种更成熟的叙事结构。
    • LRwhich explains a lotA vague, casual closing tag. The 7.5 band replaces this with the more precise "and that's most of it", directly followed by a colon that spells out exactly what "it" refers to, a tighter piece of lexis.这是一个模糊、随意的结尾用语。7.5分版本换成更精确的"and that's most of it"(这基本上就是全部原因了),紧接着用冒号明确说明"it"具体指什么,用词更紧凑。
    • GRAThey live in the present too, so 'this will help you later' doesn't mean much compared to 'this is boring now'.A cause-effect sentence with "so", clear and correct. The 7.5 band achieves the same content with a nearly identical structure, showing this pattern already works well at 6.5, though the surrounding sentences around it are more tightly built at the higher band.这是一个用"so"表达因果的句子,清楚正确。7.5分版本用几乎相同的结构表达了同样的内容,说明这种句式在6.5分时就已经用得不错,只是高分段周围的句子构建得更紧凑。

Honestly, I think being told to do something takes away most of the pleasure of choosing it yourself. My niece once said, with total sincerity, that she'd have done the dishes if nobody had asked her to, and that's most of it right there. Children are also busy building an independent self, so refusing is partly how they test whether that self actually exists. Sometimes the request genuinely makes no sense from their side, or they're just tired, or they've noticed the parents don't do it either.

I think the best way is to give them something that feels like their own. Linh worked much harder on a talk once it had her name on it and her mother's story inside it, more than any bonus scheme our studio has tried. People also work harder when they can see the result of their effort and when someone notices it. Fair pay matters, but paying more than fair doesn't make people try harder. Trust matters too, since staff who are watched the least often work the hardest. Fear and constant checking usually just create busy work, not real effort.

    • FCI think the best way is to give them something that feels like their own.A full sentence with "I think" framing the opinion explicitly. The 7.5 band drops the framing entirely and opens with a two-word imperative, "Give them something that's theirs", a bold, compact move that states the advice directly.这是一个用"I think"明确表明这是个人意见的完整句子。7.5分版本完全去掉了这层铺垫,直接用两个词的祈使句"Give them something that's theirs"(给他们一些属于他们自己的东西)开头,大胆而简练地直接给出建议。
    • LRFear and constant checking usually just create busy work, not real effort.Clear but ordinary vocabulary ("busy work"). The 7.5 band reframes this with the more precise contrast "produce activity rather than effort", a subtly more analytical distinction between two related ideas.用词清楚但普通("busy work",忙碌的假象)。7.5分版本用更精确的对比"produce activity rather than effort"(制造出的是活动而非努力)重新表达,对两个相关概念做出了更细腻的分析性区分。
    • GRATrust matters too, since staff who are watched the least often work the hardest.A cause-effect sentence with "since", clear and functional. The 7.5 band compresses the same idea using a colon instead of "since" — "Trust matters: the staff who are watched least often work most" — a tighter construction with no conjunction at all.这是一个用"since"表达因果的句子,清楚实用。7.5分版本用冒号代替"since"来压缩同样的想法——"Trust matters: the staff who are watched least often work most"(信任很重要:被盯得最少的员工往往干得最多)——这是一个完全不用连接词、更紧凑的结构。

Honestly, I'd say the key is giving people something that's genuinely theirs. Linh worked harder on that talk than on anything I'd seen before, simply because it had her name on it and her mother's story inside it, and ownership beat every bonus scheme the studio has tried. Beyond that, people work hard when they can see the result of their effort, when someone actually notices it, and when the goal is clear but slightly beyond them. Fair pay is more of a floor than a motivator, since underpaid people stop caring, but overpaying rarely makes anyone care more. I'd say trust matters too, because the staff who are watched least often work hardest of all.

I'd disagree, gently. Our studio's founder is a great encourager but a slow decider, and after a while the encouragement wears thin, because what people really need is a decision and a clear priority. I think the most important role of a boss is to make the work possible, with clear goals, honest feedback, and fair treatment.

    • GRAEncouragement matters within that — a team that's never told it's doing well loses heart — but encouragement without direction is just cheerfulness.Dashes frame the middle clause as a clean aside, avoiding the slightly loose comma splice found in the 7.0 version of the same sentence. This is a more controlled way of inserting a supporting example into a longer argument.破折号把中间的分句框成一个干净利落的插入语,避免了7.0版本同一句话中略显松散的逗号连接。这是一种更有控制力的方式,把支持性的例子插入更长的论证中。
    • LRI'd take that over applause any dayAn idiomatic, slightly wry closing phrase that both lower bands avoid; 6.5 doesn't attempt a closing flourish at all, and while 7.0 reaches the same phrase, it arrives at it through a slightly more roundabout "Honestly" lead-in.这是一个地道、略带诙谐的结尾短语,两个低分段都没有使用;6.5分完全没有尝试这种结尾的修饰,而7.0分虽然用到了同样的短语,但是通过略显绕弯的"Honestly"引出的。
    • FCThe most important role of a boss is to make the work possible: clear goals, honest feedback, protection from chaos, and fair treatment.A colon introduces a clean four-item list right after the main claim, a compact, confident structure. The 6.5 band achieves a similar list but needs "with" to attach it, a small but telling difference in economy.冒号在主论断之后立刻引出一份干净利落的四项列表,结构紧凑而自信。6.5分版本也列出了类似的清单,但需要用"with"来连接,这是一个虽小却能说明问题的经济性差异。

I think it's money up to a point, and praise after that. Our studio froze pay for a year during a hard time, and morale stayed fine because people understood and felt seen. A year later, a new manager stopped giving any feedback at all, and three people left within six months on the same salary, so being ignored hurt more than being underpaid. Money matters a lot when it's not enough, but once it's enough, it stops motivating people much. Honest praise keeps working, though, while empty praise is worse than saying nothing at all.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI think it's money up to a point, and praise after that.A plain, hedge-free opening statement. The 7.5 band drops "I think it's" entirely and states the position as a bare fragment, "Money up to a point, and praise beyond it", a more confident and economical opening.这是一个平实、没有缓和语的开头陈述。7.5分版本完全去掉了"I think it's",把立场表达成一个不完整的短句"Money up to a point, and praise beyond it"(一定程度内靠钱,超过之后靠表扬),开头更自信也更简练。
    • LRso being ignored hurt more than being underpaid"Ignored" is a reasonable but slightly plain word choice. The 7.5 band uses "invisible" instead, a more precise and evocative adjective for describing the feeling of receiving no feedback at all."Ignored"(被忽视)是一个还算合理但略显平淡的用词。7.5分版本改用"invisible"(隐形的),这个形容词更精确、更能唤起共鸣,用来描述完全得不到反馈的那种感觉。
    • GRAA year later, a new manager stopped giving any feedback at all, and three people left within six months on the same salary, so being ignored hurt more than being underpaid.A long sentence chains three ideas with "and" and "so", correct but a little repetitive in its connectors. The 7.5 band restructures this with a semicolon and a dash instead, avoiding the repeated conjunctions.这是一个长句,用"and"和"so"把三个想法连起来,语法正确但连接词有点重复。7.5分版本用分号和破折号重新组织了这个句子,避免了重复的连接词。

The hedge "Honestly, I'd say" opens the answer, and "clearly" adds a small evaluative touch to the second example.缓和语"Honestly, I'd say"开启了整个回答,而"clearly"给第二个例子增添了一点评价色彩。

Honestly, I'd say it's money up to a point, and praise beyond it. Our studio froze pay for a year during a rough patch, and morale actually held, because people understood what was happening and felt seen. A year later, when a new manager stopped giving any feedback at all, three people left within six months on unchanged salaries, so being invisible clearly hurt more than being underpaid. Money matters enormously when it's insufficient, but once it's adequate, its power to motivate fades pretty quickly, and a raise is often forgotten within a month. Praise, if it's specific and honest, keeps working in a way money doesn't, though empty praise is arguably worse than silence.

    • LRso being invisible clearly hurt more than being underpaid"Invisible" is a precise, evocative word choice, a clear step up from a plainer word like "ignored". The 7.5 band uses the same word, showing this piece of vocabulary already performs well at 7.0."Invisible"是一个精确、能唤起共鸣的用词,明显比"ignored"这样平淡的词更上一层楼。7.5分版本用了同一个词,说明这个词汇在7.0分时就已经表现得不错了。
    • GRAPraise, if it's specific and honest, keeps working in a way money doesn't, though empty praise is arguably worse than silence.A long sentence with an embedded conditional and a trailing "though" clause, ambitious for 7.0. The 7.5 band splits the same content into two short, punchy sentences instead, a different but equally effective way of achieving emphasis.这是一个长句,内嵌了一个条件从句,结尾还有一个"though"从句,对7.0分来说算是有野心的写法。7.5分版本把同样的内容拆成两个简短有力的句子,是一种不同但同样有效的强调方式。
    • FCMoney matters enormously when it's insufficient, but once it's adequate, its power to motivate fades pretty quicklyA clear contrast built with "but... once", functional and easy to follow. The 7.5 band expresses a very similar contrast using a semicolon in place of "but", a subtly more fluent way of linking two closely related claims.这是一个用"but...once"构建的清晰对比,实用且容易理解。7.5分版本用分号代替"but"表达了非常相似的对比,是一种更为流畅地连接两个密切相关论断的方式。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCMoney up to a point, and praise beyond it.A verbless fragment opens the answer directly, more compact than the full sentences used at 6.5 and 7.0 to state the same position. This kind of confident brevity signals higher fluency from the very first words.整个回答以一个没有动词的短句直接开头,比6.5分和7.0分表达同样立场时使用的完整句子更紧凑。这种自信的简练从一开口就显示出更高的流利度。
    • LRWhat people actually want is fair money and genuine recognition, and most workplaces are stingy with the secondA precise, slightly idiomatic closing line ("stingy with the second") that neither lower band attempts; both simply restate that praise or money matters without this kind of pointed final observation.这是一个精确、略带地道色彩的结尾句("stingy with the second",在第二点上很吝啬),两个低分段都没有尝试;它们都只是重述表扬或金钱很重要,没有这种一针见血的结尾观察。

I think it's very possible, and Linh is a good example. Eleven rehearsals turned someone who couldn't hold a room into someone who could, and what she learned wasn't charisma but structure, like starting with a story and stopping before people get tired. • LRMost persuasive people I know weren't born that way, they were nervous people who prepared.A comma splice joins two independent clauses, functional but grammatically loose. The 7.5 band fixes this exact issue with a semicolon in the equivalent sentence, showing tighter sentence-level control.这里用逗号连接了两个独立分句,虽然能用但语法上略显松散。7.5分版本在对应的句子里用分号修正了这个问题,展现出对句子层面更严谨的把控。

The 7.5 band instead opens the equivalent sentence with "But", a cleaner way of signalling the same contrastive emphasis without interrupting the clause."In fact"被插入到句子中间起强调作用,是一种合理的口语手法。7.5分版本则用"But"来开启对应的句子,以更简洁的方式表达同样的转折强调,而不打断分句。

    • FCVery possible, and Linh is my evidence:A short opening line ending in a colon moves straight from claim to evidence with no wasted words, more economical than the fuller openers at 6.5 and 7.0. This kind of colon-led transition is a recognisable higher-band structural habit.一句以冒号结尾的简短开头,不浪费一个字,直接从论断过渡到证据,比6.5分和7.0分更完整的开头更省字。这种以冒号引导过渡的写法是高分段常见的结构习惯。
    • LRthey were nervous people who preparedA precise, slightly understated closing description. All three bands actually use a close variant of this same phrase, showing that this particular piece of lexis already reads naturally even at the lower bands, with the real differences lying elsewhere in the sentence structure.这是一个精确、略显含蓄的结尾描述。三个分数段实际上都用了这句话的近似变体,说明这个词汇即使在低分段读起来也已经很自然,真正的差异在于句子结构的其他方面。

    为什么是这个分数

    • GRAThe advantage is clear, you get things done and win support for good ideas.A comma splice joins two clauses without a conjunction, functional in speech but grammatically loose. The 7.5 band fixes the equivalent sentence with a colon instead of a comma, a cleaner way of introducing the same list.这里用逗号连接了两个分句,没有连接词,口语中能用但语法上略显松散。7.5分版本在对应的句子里用冒号代替逗号来修正这个问题,是引出同样清单更清晰的方式。
    • LRHighly persuasive people are also mistrusted once people notice the skill, and colleagues start to discount what they say.Plain, direct phrasing without much precision about how much trust is lost. The 7.5 band adds the more exact image "discount what they say by a percentage", a subtly more analytical way of describing the same effect.用词平实直接,没有精确说明失去了多少信任。7.5分版本加入了更精确的形象说法"discount what they say by a percentage"(把他们说的话打个折扣),是一种更细腻、更具分析性的方式来描述同样的效果。
    • FCThere's a risk too, persuading people of bad ideas is just as easy as good onesThe plain additive marker "There's a risk too" signals a new point in the discourse without any more sophisticated cohesive device (an alternative like "On the flip side" or "A subtler danger is" is absent). A 7.0/7.5 answer would more likely vary its sequencing language across a multi-point answer instead of repeating this same flat pattern. Here it does the minimum job of showing the listener a third point is starting, keeping the answer's structure easy to follow but simple, matching Band 6.5's straightforward organisation.平实的附加标记"There's a risk too"(还有一个风险)标志着话语中出现了新的一点,但没有使用更精巧的衔接手段(比如"On the flip side"或"A subtler danger is"这样的替代表达都没有出现)。7.0/7.5分的答案在多要点的回答中更可能变换衔接语言,而不是重复这种平淡的模式。这里它只是起到最基本的作用,向听者示意第三点要开始了,让答案的结构容易跟随但比较简单,符合6.5分直白的组织方式。

A friend of mine in sales can persuade almost anyone of almost anything, and he once told me he's stopped trusting his own enthusiasm, because he can no longer tell whether he believes something or has simply argued himself into it. Highly persuasive people also tend to be mistrusted once their skill becomes known, and colleagues start discounting what they say by some invisible percentage. 为什么是这个分数

    • GRAThe advantage is fairly obvious, you get things done, win support for good ideas, and resolve conflicts that would otherwise stall completely.A three-item list follows a comma splice rather than a colon, and "completely" is added at the end for emphasis. The 7.5 band uses a colon in the equivalent sentence and drops "completely", a cleaner and more economical version of the same list.三项清单跟在逗号连接句而非冒号之后,结尾还加上"completely"作强调。7.5分版本在对应的句子里用冒号,并去掉了"completely",是同一份清单更简洁、更省字的版本。
    • LRdiscounting what they say by some invisible percentage"Invisible percentage" is a nice, slightly playful image for an unspoken discount in credibility. The 7.5 band simplifies this to "by a percentage" without "invisible", showing that at the very top band, precision can sometimes mean cutting a word rather than adding one."Invisible percentage"(看不见的折扣比例)是一个不错、略带俏皮的形象,用来表达可信度上那种未言明的打折。7.5分版本把它简化为"by a percentage",去掉了"invisible",说明在最高分段,精确有时意味着削减一个词,而不是增加一个词。
    • FCThere's a moral hazard too, persuading people of bad ideas is as easy as persuading them of good onesThe phrase "persuading them of good ones" repeats "persuading" for clarity, which is correct but slightly redundant. The 7.5 band trims this to "as easy as good ones", relying on the reader to supply the repeated verb, a more economical piece of ellipsis.短语"persuading them of good ones"重复使用了"persuading"以求清楚,这样写是对的,但略显多余。7.5分版本把它精简为"as easy as good ones",让读者自己补上重复的动词,是一种更省字的省略手法。

This kind of tight list construction is a small but consistent marker of the higher band.冒号引出了一份干净利落的三项清单,没有逗号连接的问题,比6.5分对应的句子更规范,也比结尾加了"completely"的7.0分版本更简洁。这种紧凑的清单构建方式是高分段一个虽小却持续出现的标志。
    • LRcolleagues discount what they say by a percentageA precise, slightly abstract image stated with minimal words. The 7.0 band reaches a similar idea with "some invisible percentage", which is also effective but marginally less economical than this trimmed version.这是一个精确、略带抽象色彩的形象,用最少的词表达出来。7.0分版本用"some invisible percentage"表达了类似的想法,同样有效,但比这个精简版略显多余。

Neither lower band uses this term; 6.5 calls it simply "a risk" and 7.0 softens it to "a moral hazard too" without the same tight colon structure immediately after.精确的术语"moral hazard"(道德风险)直接点明了这个风险,而冒号让解释不需要多余的词就能跟上。两个低分段都没有用这个术语;6.5分只是简单称之为"a risk",7.0分虽然也用了"a moral hazard too",但后面没有紧跟同样紧凑的冒号结构。

Opens with "I mostly agree" and a plain "even though" qualifier before moving into the supporting example.以"I mostly agree"(我大体上同意)开头,加上一个平实的"even though"限定语,然后进入支持性的例子。

I mostly agree, even though it's a bit uncomfortable. My uncle was persuaded by a stranger's video that a common vegetable cures most diseases, but he couldn't be persuaded by his own doctor that it doesn't, because the belief that fitted his hopes won over the one that fitted the evidence. People can be led to believe almost anything if it flatters them, frightens them, or comes from a source they trust, and history has plenty of examples of whole populations believing strange things. The limit is that persuasion mostly works with what people already want, so it's hard to persuade someone of something that costs them.

    • FCI mostly agree, even though it's a bit uncomfortable. The qualifier "even though it's a bit uncomfortable" is tucked into the same sentence as the main claim. The 7.5 band instead fronts "Uncomfortably" as its own opening word, letting the tone of the answer be set before the position itself is even stated.限定语"even though it's a bit uncomfortable"被塞进了和主论断同一句话里。7.5分版本则把"Uncomfortably"前置成一个独立的开头词,在还没说出立场本身之前,就先定下了整个回答的基调。
    • LRThe limit is that persuasion mostly works with what people already want, so it's hard to persuade someone of something that costs them.Plain, functional phrasing for the key limiting idea. The 7.5 band tightens this to the more idiomatic "works with the grain of what people already want", a natural collocation borrowed from woodworking that a 6.5 answer is unlikely to reach for.对这个关键的限制性想法,用了平实、实用的措辞。7.5分版本把它收紧为更地道的"works with the grain of what people already want"(顺着人们已经想要的东西的纹理起作用),这是一个借自木工术语的自然搭配,6.5分的答案不太可能想到这样用。
    • GRAPeople can be led to believe almost anything if it flatters them, frightens them, or comes from a source they trust, and history has plenty of examples of whole populations believing strange things.A long sentence lists three conditions with "or" and then adds a further clause with "and", correct but slightly loosely joined. The 7.5 band achieves a very similar structure with a semicolon later in the answer to separate the limiting claim from its result, a subtly tighter overall shape.这是一个长句,用"or"列出三个条件,又用"and"加上另一个分句,语法正确但衔接略松。7.5分版本在回答后面用分号实现了非常相似的结构,把限制性的论断和它的结果分开,整体形状更紧凑一些。
    7.0 分

The adverb "Uncomfortably" is fronted before the hedge "I'd say", giving the opening a slightly more spoken shape than 6.5.副词"Uncomfortably"被前置到缓和语"I'd say"之前,让开头比6.5分版本更有口语的形态。

Uncomfortably, I'd say I mostly agree. My uncle was persuaded by a stranger's video that an ordinary vegetable cures most diseases, and yet he couldn't be persuaded by his own doctor that it doesn't, because the belief that fitted his hopes simply won over the one that fitted the evidence. People can be led to believe almost anything if it flatters them, frightens them, or comes from a source they've decided to trust, and history is honestly full of whole populations believing fairly absurd things. The real limit is that persuasion tends to work with the grain of what people already want, so it's very hard to persuade someone of something that actually costs them. So 'almost anything' seems about right, as long as it's something they'd like to be true.

    • FCUncomfortably, I'd say I mostly agree.Fronting "Uncomfortably" plus the hedge "I'd say" gives a more spoken, considered opening than the 6.5 version's plainer "I mostly agree, even though...". The 7.5 band keeps the fronted adverb but drops the hedge, arriving at an even more direct opening.把"Uncomfortably"前置,再加上缓和语"I'd say",比6.5分版本更平实的"I mostly agree, even though..."更有口语感、更显斟酌。7.5分版本保留了前置的副词,但去掉了缓和语,开头更加直接。
    • LRpersuasion tends to work with the grain of what people already want"Work with the grain of" is a nicely idiomatic phrase for the limiting principle. The 7.5 band uses the identical phrase, showing this piece of lexis already performs at the top of the range by 7.0."Work with the grain of"是一个很地道的短语,用来表达这个限制性原则。7.5分版本用了完全相同的短语,说明这个词汇在7.0分时就已经达到了该分数段的顶峰表现。
    • GRASo 'almost anything' seems about right, as long as it's something they'd like to be true. The hedge "seems about right" softens the closing conclusion. The 7.5 band removes the hedge for a flatter, more confident "is right" in the equivalent closing sentence, a small but real shift toward assertiveness.缓和语"seems about right"(似乎是对的)软化了结尾的结论。7.5分版本去掉了缓和语,在对应的结尾句里用更平实、更自信的"is right",是朝着更有力方向的一个虽小却真实的转变。
    7.5 分

The fronted single-word opener "Uncomfortably" sets the tone before the position is even stated, and the closing line returns to it with a matching, compact structure.前置的单词开头"Uncomfortably"在还没说出立场之前就定下了基调,而结尾句又用一个对应、紧凑的结构回到了这一点。

Uncomfortably, I mostly agree. My uncle was persuaded by a stranger's video that an ordinary vegetable cures most diseases, and could not be persuaded by his own doctor that it doesn't — the belief that fitted his hopes won over the one that fitted the evidence. People can be led to believe almost anything if it flatters them, frightens them, or comes from a source they've decided to trust, and history is full of whole populations believing absurd things. The limit is that persuasion works with the grain of what people already want; it's very hard to persuade someone of something that costs them. So 'almost anything' is right, as long as the thing is something they'd like to be true.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCUncomfortably, I mostly agree.A single fronted adverb followed by a short, direct statement of position, more compact than the fuller hedged openings at 6.5 and 7.0. This economy at the very start of the answer sets a confident tone for what follows.一个前置的单个副词后面跟着一句简短直接的立场陈述,比6.5分和7.0分带缓和语的更完整开头更紧凑。这种在回答一开始就体现的简洁,为后续内容定下了自信的基调。
    • LRpersuasion works with the grain of what people already wantThe same idiomatic image used at 7.0, confirming this phrase already reads naturally by that band, with 7.5 distinguishing itself instead through tighter surrounding grammar rather than through this particular piece of vocabulary.这里用了和7.0分相同的地道形象,证实了这个短语在那个分数段读起来就已经自然,7.5分的区别体现在周围更严谨的语法上,而不是这一处词汇本身。
    • GRAan ordinary vegetable cures most diseases, and could not be persuaded by his own doctor that it doesn't — the belief that fitted his hopes won over the one that fitted the evidenceA dash lets the concluding explanation follow the anecdote directly with no conjunction, more compact than the "because" clause used for the same content at 6.5 and 7.0. The semicolon later in the same answer performs a similar linking role without repeating a conjunction.破折号让结尾的解释能够不用连接词就直接跟在轶事后面,比6.5分和7.0分对同样内容使用的"because"从句更紧凑。同一回答后面的分号也起到类似的连接作用,而不必重复使用连接词。
