The answer stays clear and direct throughout, using plain vocabulary ('a bright orange', 'a softer colour') and simple chained sentences, wrapping the story up in one tidy concluding sentence rather than any deeper reflection — typical Band 6.5 competence without added sophistication.这段答案从头到尾都保持清晰直接,使用的是简单词汇('一种明亮的橙色'、'一种柔和一点的颜色')和简单的连接句,用一句工整的总结句收尾,而没有更深层的反思——这正是典型的6.5分水平的表现,没有额外的语言深度。

The time I remember was a few months ago, when my colleague Quan asked for my opinion about a new logo he had designed for a client.

He wanted to know my opinion because we work on the same design team, and he trusts my eye for colour and detail. He had been working on it for two weeks and wasn't sure if it was good enough to show the client, so he asked me to look at it before the meeting.

The opinion I gave him was honest but careful. I told him the shape of the logo was strong, but the colour he chose, a bright orange, didn't really match the client's brand, which is a quiet, expensive skincare company. I suggested he try a softer colour instead, maybe a pale green or grey.

How I felt when he asked me was actually quite good. I felt trusted, because he could have asked anyone else on the team. At the same time, I felt a little pressure, because I didn't want to discourage him after all his hard work. In the end, he changed the colour, the client loved it, and he later told me my opinion really helped him see the design differently.

  • FCIn the end, he changed the colour, the client loved it, and he later told me my opinion really helped him see the design differently. The closing line chains three separate outcomes — the colour change, the client's reaction, and the colleague's later comment — using commas and a single final "and" rather than subordinating any of them, a plain but perfectly clear way to resolve the story. "In the end" is the only discourse marker doing coherence work here, signalling closure without a more reflective wrap-up that a higher band might add (evaluating what the moment taught the speaker about giving feedback). The chaining keeps momentum and answers the cue card fully, exactly the "one clear reason or example is enough" standard for Band 6.5 fluency.
  • LRhe trusts my eye for colour and detail"Trusts my eye for" is a mildly fixed phrase but still common enough to sit within everyday usage rather than counting as a genuinely idiomatic or topic-specific collocation a 7.0+ speaker might reach for (like "he defers to my judgement on..."). Pairing "colour and detail" keeps the description concrete and grounded in the design context without introducing any technical vocabulary from the field. It's an accurate, natural way to explain why the colleague asked for an opinion, but it stays within the plain vocabulary band the descriptor sets as the Band 6.5 ceiling."Trusts my eye for" 是一个略带固定搭配色彩的短语,但仍然常见到属于日常用语范畴,而算不上 Band 7.0+ 水平的说话者可能会追求的那种真正习语化或特定话题的搭配(比如 "he defers to my judgement on...")。将 "colour and detail" 搭配在一起,使描述保持具体、扎根于设计语境,而没有引入该领域的任何专业术语。这是一种准确、自然地解释同事为何征求意见的方式,但它仍处于该描述语所设定的 Band 6.5 上限——平实词汇的范围之内。
  • GRAI felt a little pressure, because I didn't want to discourage him after all his hard work. The sentence adds exactly one subordinate clause ("because I didn't want to discourage him") onto the main statement of feeling, the single-layer complexity the descriptor calls "a few basic complex ones." The prepositional phrase "after all his hard work" tacks on a further detail without triggering another clause, so the sentence stays grammatically simple even though it conveys a reasonably nuanced mixed emotion (trust plus pressure). A Band 7.0 version might instead link the trust and the pressure within a single more integrated sentence rather than presenting them as two separate short statements across the paragraph.

This answer develops each point with a concrete reason and example (the weekend flower sales, the advice to wait and save first) and links ideas with natural spoken phrases like 'really' and 'though', producing fluent, comfortable delivery that sits clearly above 6.5 without reaching for the more literary structures of 7.5.这段答案通过具体的理由和例子(周末卖花、建议先等一等再存钱)来展开每一个要点,并用'really'、'though'这类自然的口语词把各个想法衔接起来,呈现出流畅、从容的表达,明显高于6.5分,但还没有用到7.5分那种更具文采的句式结构。

The time I'm thinking of was about eight months ago, when my friend Trang called me late one evening and asked what I honestly thought about her plan to quit her office job and open a small flower stall near the market.

She wanted my opinion because she trusts me to tell her the truth rather than just being polite. She'd been unhappy at her company for over a year, and flowers were something she'd always loved, but she was scared of giving up a steady salary for something so uncertain, so she needed someone outside her family to talk it through with.

The opinion I gave her was honest, though I tried to be careful about how I said it. I told her the idea wasn't crazy at all, especially since she already had some regular customers who bought flowers from her on weekends as a side job. What I did suggest, though, was that she keep her job for a few more months and build up some savings first, instead of quitting straight away, just to reduce the risk a little.

How I felt when she asked me was a mix of things, really. I felt flattered that she trusted my judgement on something so personal, but I also felt a bit nervous, because I didn't want to give her the wrong advice about her own future. In the end, she followed a version of what I suggested — she kept working part-time while the stall grew, and about six months later she finally left her job for good. Every time I walk past her stall now, I think about that phone call, and I'm glad I took it seriously.

  • FCHow I felt when she asked me was a mix of things, really. The fronted question-form subject 'How I felt when she asked me' functions as an explicit topic sentence announcing the paragraph's focus, while the closing tag 'really' softens the claim into something the speaker seems to be working out in real time rather than reciting. That combination — clear organisational signalling plus a natural spoken hedge — is exactly the kind of unscripted-but-structured delivery Band 7.0 fluency rewards over the flatter topic sentences a 6.5 answer would use. The vague phrase 'a mix of things' is also a deliberate hook setting up the contrasting feelings named in the sentences that follow.前置的疑问句式主语"How I felt when she asked me"起到了明确主题句的作用,宣告了这一段的重点,而句尾的缓冲语"really"把这个说法软化成一种说话者似乎正在当场想清楚、而不是背诵出来的东西。这种组合——清晰的组织性提示加上自然的口语缓冲语——正是 Band 7.0 流利度所奖励的那种未经排练却依然有结构的表达方式,胜过 Band 6.5 答案会使用的更平淡的主题句。模糊的短语"a mix of things"也是一个刻意设下的钩子,为后面几句话里点名的那些相互矛盾的感受做了铺垫。
  • LRreduce the risk a little'Reduce the risk' is a natural collocation slightly more precise than a plainer paraphrase like 'make it safer', and the softening tag 'a little' keeps the claim modest and realistic rather than overstated — appropriate since the advice being described was itself cautious. This is a single flexible word choice deployed naturally in context rather than a showcase of idiom, matching the 7.0 descriptor's 'a few flexible or topic-specific' vocabulary target rather than the denser figurative range a 7.5 answer would reach for around the same advice.'Reduce the risk'是一个自然的搭配,比"make it safer"这样更平白的转述略微精确一些,而句尾的软化语"a little"让这个说法保持谦逊、贴近实际,而不是言过其实——这很合适,因为被描述的这条建议本身就是谨慎的。这是在语境中自然运用的一个灵活用词选择,而不是一场惯用语的展示,符合 Band 7.0 评分描述"几个灵活或贴合话题"的词汇目标,而不是 Band 7.5 答案围绕同一条建议会去够的那种更密集的比喻范围。
  • GRAI told her the idea wasn't crazy at all, especially since she already had some regular customers who bought flowers from her on weekends as a side job.The sentence nests a relative clause ('who bought flowers from her on weekends') inside an 'especially since' clause, which is itself attached to the main reported-speech clause, giving three layers of subordination handled without losing grammatical control across the whole sentence. This is more structural ambition than the single-clause justifications a 6.5 answer would offer, while the connectors used remain common enough to read as comfortable rather than the more marked structures that would mark 7.5. Nesting the customer detail inside the justification also shows the reasoning was evidence-based, not generic encouragement.

The tonal pivot from 'I'm used to giving opinions about buttons' to 'This was somebody's future' delivers the evaluative insight examiners look for at 7.5, and the closing line's figurative twist ('served back to me in a cup') shows genuine idiomatic control rather than merely correct grammar.语气从'I'm used to giving opinions about buttons'(我平时给的意见顶多是关于扣子这种小事)转向'This was somebody's future'(这可是别人的一生)所带来的这种评价性的洞察力,正是考官在7.5分答案中寻找的东西;而结尾那句带有比喻色彩的转折('served back to me in a cup',仿佛被盛在一只杯子里递回给我)展现出的是真正地道的语言掌控力,而不仅仅是语法正确。

The time I'd describe was about a year ago, when my landlady, Mrs Hoa, stopped me on the stairs and asked if I had time for tea. I've rented the top floor of her house for four years, and tea on the stairs usually means the rent is going up, so I said yes with some nerves.

What she wanted was my opinion on a family decision. Her daughter, Vy, who is twenty-four, wanted to turn the ground floor — which had been a small clothes shop, then empty — into a café. Mrs Hoa had two worries: whether it would work, and whether her daughter should do it alone or take a franchise from a big coffee chain that had offered her a package.

Why she asked me, she explained, was that I design apps and therefore 'know what young people want'. I think the real reason was that I was outside the family. Her husband was against the whole idea, her daughter was for it, and she needed a third voice that had no stake.

The opinion I gave was to do it, but small and her own. The street has three franchise coffee shops within two hundred metres and no independent one, so copying them meant competing with their prices, while something with Vy's own character could become the place the neighbourhood actually belongs to. And I said the decision should be Vy's, because it would be her fifteen-hour days, not her parents'.

How I felt was mostly flattered, and then, about halfway through, slightly alarmed, because I realised a family was going to spend real money partly on what I said. I'm used to giving opinions about buttons. This was somebody's future. The café opened last spring, with Vy's paintings on the walls, and I now drink my coffee there most mornings, which may be the only time my opinion has ever been served back to me in a cup.

  • FCmostly flattered, and then, about halfway through, slightly alarmedThe phrase tracks an emotional trajectory across time — 'mostly flattered' shifting to 'slightly alarmed' partway through the conversation — rather than naming a single static feeling the way a 6.5 or 7.0 answer typically would. The parenthetical time marker 'about halfway through' anchors the shift to a specific moment in the unfolding anecdote, a more sophisticated narrative technique than simply listing two feelings side by side. This process-tracking, rather than snapshot, emotional reporting is exactly the 'one clear reflective or evaluative point, not just description' the 7.5 descriptor calls for, immediately justified by the following explanation of why the alarm set in.
  • LRwhich may be the only time my opinion has ever been served back to me in a cupThe metaphor extends the coffee-shop setting of the whole story into its own closing image — the speaker's opinion literally 'served... in a cup' — rather than stating plainly that they now enjoy visiting the café they helped inspire, which is what a 7.0 answer would more likely do. The hedge 'may be' keeps the claim understated rather than overreaching, matching the story's generally modest, self-deprecating tone. This kind of original, situation-specific figurative language — built from the story's own materials rather than a borrowed idiom — is precisely the 'figurative touch if it fits the moment' the 7.5 lexical descriptor names.
  • GRAHer husband was against the whole idea, her daughter was for it, and she needed a third voice that had no stake. The first two clauses are built in deliberate grammatical parallel — 'was against... was for it' — mirroring each other in structure to visually balance the family's opposing positions, before a third clause breaks the pattern to explain why the speaker was asked at all. This kind of engineered parallelism is a stylistic choice beyond what accuracy alone requires; a 7.0 answer would likely convey the same information in two separate, unbalanced sentences. The relative clause 'that had no stake' adds a further layer of subordination, and the whole sentence stays error-free under that load, matching the 7.5 grammar bar.

Closes with a plain, direct two-part conclusion, without the more polished parallel structure the higher bands use.以一个平实、直接的两部分结论收尾,没有使用更高分段所采用的那种更工整的并列结构。

Only partly, and the difference can be big. Vy's café got three angry one-star reviews in its first month, all from one family who had to move tables, while hundreds of happy regular customers said nothing online at all. Online opinions come mostly from people with strong feelings, either very happy or very angry, or people who enjoy arguing. Most people are busy and don't post anything. Algorithms also make the loudest opinions look more common than they really are. So online opinion shows strong feelings, but not what most people actually think.

    • FCSo online opinion shows strong feelings, but not what most people actually think. This closing sentence states the balanced conclusion plainly and directly, in keeping with 6.5's simple style. 7.0 softens this into two parallel noun phrases ('a useful early warning... a poor guide'), and 7.5 extends the same pairing with an added evaluative frame, giving the ending more rhetorical shape.这句收尾句平白、直接地陈述了这个平衡的结论,符合6.5分简洁的风格。7.0把它软化为两个并列的名词短语('a useful early warning... a poor guide');7.5则在同样的搭配上加入了一个额外的评价性框架,让收尾更具修辞的形态。
    • LRpeople who enjoy arguingThis is plain, functional vocabulary. 7.5 upgrades the same idea to 'those who simply enjoy arguing', a small but more precise addition, and surrounds it with a fuller, more idiomatic list overall.这是平实、功能性的词汇。7.5将同样的想法升级为 'those who simply enjoy arguing',这是一个虽小却更精确的补充,并且整体上用一个更完整、更地道的列举把它包裹起来。
    • GRAVy's café got three angry one-star reviews in its first month, all from one family who had to move tables, while hundreds of happy regular customers said nothing online at all. This single long sentence already uses 'while' to balance two groups, reasonably advanced for 6.5. 7.5 extends the same sentence further with an added dash-linked interpretive clause, showing a longer, more developed unit.这个长句已经用 'while' 来平衡两组人,对6.5分来说已经相当高级了。7.5在同样的句子上进一步延伸,加入了一个由破折号连接的解读性分句,展现出一个更长、更完整的单元。

Adds the hedge 'Honestly' and the intensifier 'pretty dramatic' to the opening, giving it a more spoken, considered tone.在开头加入了缓和语 'Honestly' 和强调语 'pretty dramatic',使语气更具口语化、更显经过深思熟虑。

Honestly, only partly, and the gap can be pretty dramatic. Vy's café got three furious one-star reviews in its first month, all from one family who'd been asked to move tables, while hundreds of happy regulars said absolutely nothing online. I'd say online opinion over-represents people with time, strong feelings, and a reason to type — the very pleased, the very upset, and people who enjoy arguing. Most of society, meanwhile, is busy, moderate and silent. Algorithms then amplify whatever gets a reaction, so the loudest views end up looking like the common ones. It's a useful early warning, but a poor guide to what most people actually think.

    • FCHonestly, only partly, and the gap can be pretty dramatic. The hedge 'Honestly' plus the intensifier 'pretty dramatic' gives this opening more spoken colour than 6.5's flatter version. 7.5 achieves a similarly confident tone without the hedge, using 'genuinely dramatic' instead, a marginally stronger single-word intensifier.缓和语 'Honestly' 加上强调语 'pretty dramatic',让这个开头比6.5分中更平淡的版本多了一层口语色彩。7.5在没有缓和语的情况下也达到了同样自信的语气,改用 'genuinely dramatic',这是一个略微更有力的单词强调语。
    • LRthe very pleased, the very upset, and people who enjoy arguingThis is a clear, parallel list using plain intensifiers. 7.5 keeps a very similar list but adds 'simply' before 'enjoy arguing', a small refinement that sharpens the same idea.这是一个清晰的并列列举,使用了平实的强调语。7.5保留了非常相似的列举,但在 'enjoy arguing' 之前加入了 'simply',这个小小的打磨让同样的想法更加犀利。
    • GRAAlgorithms then amplify whatever gets a reaction, so the loudest views end up looking like the common ones. This uses 'so' to link cause and effect in one sentence, correct and fluent. 7.5 keeps a nearly identical structure but replaces 'looking like' with the more vivid 'masquerading as', a stronger verb choice within the same grammatical frame.这里用 'so' 在一个句子中连接了因果关系,正确且流畅。7.5保留了几乎相同的结构,但把 'looking like' 替换为更生动的 'masquerading as',在同样的语法框架内选择了一个更有力的动词。

Online opinion over-represents people with time, strong feelings and a reason to type: the very pleased, the very upset, and those who simply enjoy arguing. Most of society, by contrast, is busy, moderate and silent. Algorithms then amplify whatever provokes a reaction, so the loudest views end up masquerading as the common ones. Online opinion, I'd say, is a useful early warning of what some people feel intensely — and a poor guide to what most people actually think.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCOnline opinion, I'd say, is a useful early warning of what some people feel intensely — and a poor guide to what most people actually think. This closing inserts the hedge 'I'd say' mid-sentence and balances two parallel noun phrases around a dash, giving the conclusion a more deliberate, weighed rhythm than the plainer endings at 6.5 and 7.0. It reads as a carefully constructed final judgement rather than a simple final fact.这个收尾在句中插入了缓和语 'I'd say',并用一个破折号平衡了两个并列的名词短语,让结论比6.5分和7.0分中更平淡的收尾多了一种从容、经过权衡的节奏。读起来像是一个经过精心构建的最终判断,而不是一个简单的最终事实陈述。
    • LRmasquerading as the common ones'Masquerading as' is a vivid, precise metaphor for something falsely appearing to be something else, well beyond the plain 'looking like' used at 6.5 and 7.0. It shows the kind of natural, image-based vocabulary expected at 7.5.'Masquerading as' 是一个生动、精确的比喻,用来形容某事物虚假地伪装成另一副样子,远远超出了6.5分和7.0分中平实的 'looking like'。这展现出7.5分中所期望的那种自然、富有意象的词汇运用。
    • GRAwhile hundreds of perfectly happy regulars said absolutely nothing online — the internet, in other words, only heard the angry threeThis clause adds a dash-linked restatement that interprets the fact just given, rather than simply stating it. That extra interpretive layer, built through flexible punctuation, is more ambitious than the single-clause sentences at 6.5 and 7.0.这个分句加入了一个由破折号连接的重述,用来解读刚刚陈述的事实,而不是仅仅陈述它。这层通过灵活标点构建出的额外解读,比6.5分和7.0分中单一分句的句子更有野心。

They are good at bringing different views into one room, but weak at solving them. I watched a climate summit with a colleague, and she kept asking, 'but who can make them do it?' That's the limit — these organisations can persuade and coordinate, but they can't force a powerful country to do anything it refuses. They work well on shared problems and give small countries a voice. When the biggest members disagree, the organisation becomes more like a stage than a referee.

    • FCThat's the limit — these organisations can persuade and coordinate, but they can't force a powerful country to do anything it refuses. This states the central limitation directly in one sentence, suiting 6.5's plain style. 7.0 extends the same list with a third verb ('persuade, coordinate and embarrass'), and 7.5 adds the intensifier 'flatly' to the refusal, both giving the same point more precision.这句直接在一句话中陈述了核心的局限,符合6.5分平实的风格。7.0把这个列举扩展为第三个动词('persuade, coordinate and embarrass');7.5则在"拒绝"上加入了强调语 'flatly',两者都让这一点更加精确。
    • LRthe organisation becomes more like a stage than a refereeThis is a clear, effective metaphor, already fairly vivid. 7.5 compresses the equivalent idea into 'slides from referee into mere stage', a more economical and dynamic verb-led version of the same image.这是一个清晰、有效的比喻,已经相当生动。7.5将同样的想法压缩为 'slides from referee into mere stage',用一个动词主导的、更经济、更有动感的版本呈现同样的意象。
    • GRAStill, it's better than no room to talk at all.A short, simple closing sentence with basic grammar. 7.5 extends a similar closing idea into a longer sentence with two balancing adverbs, showing more controlled sentence-final modification.一个用基础语法构成的简短收尾句。7.5把一个类似的收尾想法扩展成一个带有两个平衡副词的更长句子,展现出更有控制力的句末修饰。

Adds the hedge 'Honestly' and 'pretty weak' to the opening, giving it a more spoken, considered quality than a flat statement.在开头加入了缓和语 'Honestly' 和 'pretty weak',使语气比平淡的陈述更具口语化、更显经过深思熟虑。

Honestly, they're effective at bringing different views into one room, but pretty weak at actually settling them. I watched a climate summit with a colleague who kept asking, 'but who can make them do it?', and that's the limit — these bodies can persuade, coordinate and embarrass, but they can't compel a powerful country to do anything it refuses. Where they work well is on problems everyone agrees are shared, like disease or refugee camps, and in giving small nations a voice they'd otherwise lack. Where they fail is when the biggest members disagree, and the organisation becomes a stage rather than a referee. That's a modest achievement, but a real one.

    • FCHonestly, they're effective at bringing different views into one room, but pretty weak at actually settling them. The hedge 'Honestly' plus 'pretty weak' gives this opening a more spoken, considered quality than 6.5's flatter statement. 7.5 achieves a similarly weighed tone without the hedge, using 'considerably weaker' instead, a more formal and precise intensifier.缓和语 'Honestly' 加上 'pretty weak',让这个开头比6.5分更平淡的陈述多了一层口语化、经过深思熟虑的质感。7.5在没有缓和语的情况下也达到了同样经过权衡的语气,改用更正式、更精确的强调语 'considerably weaker'。
    • LRthese bodies can persuade, coordinate and embarrassThis three-verb list is a precise, functional description. 7.5 keeps the same list, showing that at the top two bands a well-chosen list can recur while the surrounding sentence grows more demanding.这个三个动词的列举是精确、功能性的描述。7.5保留了同样的列举,说明在最高的两个分段中,一个选词得当的列举可以重复出现,而周围的句子则变得更有难度。
    • GRAWhere they work well is on problems everyone agrees are shared, like disease or refugee camps, and in giving small nations a voice they'd otherwise lack. This sentence fronts 'Where they work well is...' for emphasis, then adds a second coordinated clause, a fairly advanced structure. 7.5 keeps this same fronted structure but extends the list to three items with a dash instead of 'like', showing marginally denser detail within an identical frame.这句用 'Where they work well is...' 前置结构来强调,随后又加入了第二个并列分句,这是一个相当高级的结构。7.5保留了同样的前置结构,但把列举扩展为三项,用破折号代替了 'like',在同样的框架内展现出略微更密集的细节。

Closes with the paired adverbs 'admittedly' and 'nonetheless', framing the concession with more rhetorical balance than the plainer endings below.以一对副词 'admittedly' 和 'nonetheless' 收尾,用比下面更平淡的结尾更具修辞平衡感的方式来框定这个让步。

Effective at bringing differing views into one room, I'd say, but considerably weaker at actually settling them. I watched a climate summit stream with a colleague who kept asking, 'but who can make them do it?' — and that's the honest limit: international bodies can persuade, coordinate and embarrass, but they can't compel a powerful country to do anything it flatly refuses. Where they genuinely excel is on problems everyone agrees are shared — disease, aviation rules, refugee camps — and in giving small nations a voice they'd otherwise never have. Where they fail is precisely when the biggest members disagree, and the organisation slides from referee into mere stage. That's a modest achievement, admittedly, but a real one nonetheless.

    • FCThat's a modest achievement, admittedly, but a real one nonetheless. The paired adverbs 'admittedly' and 'nonetheless' frame this closing concession with more rhetorical balance than the plainer versions at 6.5 and 7.0. It reads as a carefully weighed final judgement rather than a simple final fact.这对副词 'admittedly' 和 'nonetheless' 用比6.5分和7.0分更平淡的版本更具修辞平衡感的方式,框定了这个收尾的让步。读起来像是一个经过仔细权衡的最终判断,而不是一个简单的最终事实陈述。
    • LRslides from referee into mere stageThis is a vivid, dynamic metaphor using the verb 'slides' to suggest gradual decline, more economical and evocative than the static 'becomes more of a stage than a referee' used at the lower bands. It shows the kind of natural, image-based vocabulary expected at 7.5.这是一个生动、有动感的比喻,用动词 'slides' 来暗示逐渐的衰退,比低分段中静态的 'becomes more of a stage than a referee' 更经济、更传神。这展现出7.5分中所期望的那种自然、富有意象的词汇运用。
    • GRAWhere they genuinely excel is on problems everyone agrees are shared — disease, aviation rules, refugee camps — and in giving small nations a voice they'd otherwise never have. This sentence keeps the fronted 'Where... is' structure from 7.0 but extends the example list to three items using a dash and intensifies the final clause with 'otherwise never have'. This incremental layering within a shared grammatical frame is characteristic of the top band's control.这句保留了7.0分中前置的 'Where... is' 结构,但把例子的列举扩展为三项,用破折号连接,并用 'otherwise never have' 强化了最后的分句。这种在共享的语法框架内逐层叠加细节的方式,正是最高分段掌控力的典型特征。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo staying silent is often a choice, not really an empty mind. This closing sentence states the reframing directly in plain terms, fitting 6.5's simple style. 7.0 restructures the same contrast with 'less... than', and 7.5 sharpens it further with 'not... at all, but', both giving the final claim more precision and weight.这句收尾句用平实的措辞直接陈述了这一重新定义,符合6.5分简洁的风格。7.0用 'less... than' 重组了同样的对比;7.5则用 'not... at all, but' 进一步打磨,二者都让这个最终论点更精确、更有分量。
    • LRgiving an opinion feels like starting a fightThis is a clear, functional metaphor. 7.5 upgrades the equivalent phrase to 'voicing an opinion feels like picking a fight', using the slightly more vivid verbs 'voicing' and 'picking' for the same image.这是一个清晰、功能性的比喻。7.5将同样的短语升级为 'voicing an opinion feels like picking a fight',用略微更生动的动词 'voicing' 和 'picking' 来呈现同样的意象。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCHonestly, Mrs Hoa's husband had very strong views on the café and expressed them entirely by leaving the room, which is one common styleThe hedge 'Honestly' at the very start gives this opening a more personal, spoken quality than a bare statement of fact. 7.5 drops the hedge but reaches a similarly confident tone through the more formal word 'recognisable' in place of 'common'.开头的缓和语 'Honestly' 让这个开场比一句平铺直叙的事实陈述更具个人化、更口语化的色彩。7.5去掉了这个缓和语,但用更正式的词 'recognisable' 代替 'common',达到了同样自信的语气。
    • LROthers are simply afraid of being wrong in publicThis is plain, direct vocabulary for the fear described. 7.5 replaces 'afraid' with 'wary', a slightly more precise and understated word for the same feeling.这是平实、直接的词汇,用来描述那种恐惧。7.5用 'wary' 取代了 'afraid',这是一个略微更精确、更含蓄的词来表达同样的情绪。
    • GRASo silence is often less an absence of opinion than a calculation about what it'll cost. This uses a 'less... than' comparative structure to reframe the idea, correct and reasonably sophisticated. 7.5 restructures the same idea with 'not... at all, but', a marginally more emphatic variant of the same underlying contrast.这里用 'less... than' 的比较结构来重新定义这个想法,正确且相当高级。7.5用 'not... at all, but' 重组了同样的想法,是同一底层对比的一个略微更有力的变体。

Mrs Hoa's husband had very strong views on the café and expressed them entirely by leaving the room, which is one recognisable style: for some people, especially older men here, voicing an opinion feels like picking a fight they'd rather sidestep. Others are simply wary of being wrong in public, or of being held responsible if things go badly. In more hierarchical settings, offering an opinion above your station can seem outright rude, so people learn silence early and never quite unlearn it. Some genuinely don't feel strongly and resent being pushed to pretend otherwise. And a few have voiced opinions before and paid for it, at work or at home. So silence is often not an absence of opinion at all, but a quiet calculation about what it will cost.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo silence is often not an absence of opinion at all, but a quiet calculation about what it will cost. The added intensifier 'at all' and the adjective 'quiet' before 'calculation' give this closing claim more emphasis and imagery than the plainer versions at 6.5 and 7.0. It reads as a more deliberately crafted final statement.加入的强调语 'at all' 以及 'calculation' 前的形容词 'quiet',让这个收尾的论断比6.5分和7.0分中更平淡的版本更有力度、更富意象。读起来像是一个经过更刻意雕琢的最终陈述。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCFive-star reviews tend to be short and vague; one-star reviews are long, specific and emotional.Using a semicolon instead of 'while' to join this final contrast gives the closing a tighter, more clipped rhythm than the looser conjunction used at 6.5 and 7.0. Often it takes about as long as it takes for people to be replaced. So the nation's opinion moved mostly because new people arrived with new views, not because old people changed their minds. So decades is usually about right, and sometimes it takes even longer.

    • FCSo the nation's opinion moved mostly because new people arrived with new views, not because old people changed their minds. This states the mechanism plainly with a 'not because' contrast, suiting 6.5's direct style. 7.0 embeds the same contrast inside a longer dash-linked sentence, and 7.5 keeps that structure but adds a further phrase, giving the point slightly more polish.这句话用 'not because' 的对比平白地陈述了这一机制,符合6.5分直接的风格。7.0把同样的对比嵌入到一个更长的、由破折号连接的句子中;7.5保留了这个结构,但又加了一个短语,让这一点略微更打磨。

Honestly, it often takes roughly the time it takes for people to be replaced. In my family, my grandmother's views on women working never changed, my mother's shifted halfway, and my sister holds the opposite view — the nation's opinion moved, but mostly through generations arriving with new views rather than old people actually changing theirs. Some shifts are faster, admittedly: a war, a disaster or a scandal can turn a nation's mind within a year, and technology has sped this up too.

    • FCHonestly, it often takes roughly the time it takes for people to be replaced. The hedge 'Honestly' softens this claim into a more considered, spoken opening than 6.5's flatter statement. 7.5 drops the hedge and instead adds the reflexive 'themselves', achieving a similarly weighed tone through precision rather than a spoken aside.缓和语 'Honestly' 把这个论断软化成一个更经过深思熟虑、更口语化的开场,比6.5分中更平淡的陈述更胜一筹。7.5去掉了这个缓和语,转而加入了反身代词 'themselves',通过精确性而不是口语化的插入语,达到了同样经过权衡的语气。
    • LRSome shifts are faster, admittedly'Admittedly' is a precise, concessive adverb reused identically at 7.5, showing that at the top two bands a well-chosen discourse marker can recur while the surrounding sentence structure grows more demanding.'Admittedly' 是一个精确的让步副词,在7.5分中被原封不动地重复使用,说明在最高的两个分段中,一个选得恰当的话语标记词可以重复出现,而周围的句子结构却变得更有难度。
    • GRAthe nation's opinion moved, but mostly through generations arriving with new views rather than old people actually changing theirsThis clause uses 'rather than' to contrast two mechanisms within one dash-linked sentence, a fairly advanced structure. 7.5 keeps an almost identical structure but replaces the ending with a more natural, idiomatic phrasing of the same contrast.这个分句用 'rather than' 在一个由破折号连接的句子内对比了两种机制,是一个相当高级的结构。7.5保留了几乎相同的结构,但把结尾替换成了同样对比更自然、更地道的表达方式。

Often it takes roughly the time it takes for people themselves to be replaced. In my own family, my grandmother's views on women working never budged an inch, my mother's shifted halfway, and my sister holds the polar opposite view — the nation's opinion moved, but mostly through generations arriving with new views rather than old ones changing their minds. Some shifts happen faster, admittedly: a war, a disaster or a scandal can turn a nation's mind within a single year, and technology has accelerated everything by exposing people to entirely different ways of living. But deep views about family, honour, religion and outsiders tend to move at the speed of funerals and births. Decades is about right on average, and sometimes it's closer to centuries.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCDecades is about right on average, and sometimes it's closer to centuries. The added qualifier 'on average' and the more precise 'closer to centuries' give this closing more careful calibration than the plainer versions at 6.5 and 7.0. It reads as a more considered, statistically-minded final judgement.加入的限定语 'on average' 和更精确的 'closer to centuries',让这个收尾比6.5分和7.0分中更平淡的版本多了一层更细致的校准。读起来像是一个更经过深思、更具统计学思维的最终判断。
    • LRnever budged an inchThis is a vivid, physical idiom for total resistance to change, well beyond the plain 'never changed' used at 6.5 and 7.0. It shows the kind of natural, image-based vocabulary that marks 7.5 lexical resource.这是一个生动、带有身体动作意味的习语,用来表达对改变的完全抗拒,远远超出了6.5分和7.0分中平实的 'never changed'。这展现出7.5分词汇运用典型的那种自然、富有意象的特点。
    • GRAthe nation's opinion moved, but mostly through generations arriving with new views rather than old ones changing their mindsThis sentence uses 'rather than' to contrast two mechanisms within a dash-linked structure, closely matching 7.0's grammar but with a more idiomatic final phrase. That fine-tuned variation on an already complex shared structure is characteristic of the top band's control.这句话用 'rather than' 在一个由破折号连接的结构中对比了两种机制,语法上与7.0分非常接近,但结尾短语更地道。这种在一个已经很复杂的共享结构上进行的精细调整,正是最高分段掌控力的典型特征。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCMuch more often, and about many more things. This short opening states the intensified claim plainly, suiting 6.5's direct style. Both higher bands replace 'many' with 'far', a marginally stronger, more natural intensifier for the same claim.这个简短的开头平白地陈述了这一被强调过的论断,符合6.5分直接的风格。两个更高的分段都用 'far' 取代了 'many',这是一个略微更有力、更自然的强调语来表达同样的论断。
    • LRThe amount of opinion is huge nowThis is a plain, general statement. 7.5 replaces it with 'the sheer volume is staggering now', a noticeably more vivid and precise pair of words for the same idea.这是一个平实、笼统的陈述。7.5将其替换为 'the sheer volume is staggering now',用一对明显更生动、更精确的词语来表达同样的想法。
    • GRANow every purchase ends with a request for a rating, so giving an opinion has become a normal step instead of something brave. This uses 'so' to link cause and effect in one sentence, correct and fluent. 7.5 keeps a very similar structure but adds a trailing clause about baffling shopkeepers 'a generation ago' to a related later sentence, extending the overall argument further than either lower band.这里用 'so' 在一个句子中连接了因果关系,正确且流畅。7.5保留了非常相似的结构,但在后面一个相关的句子中加入了一个尾随分句,讲的是「一代人之前」的店主会对此感到困惑,把整体论证延伸得比另外两个较低的分段都更远。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCHonestly, far more often, and about far more things. The hedge 'Honestly' plus the repeated intensifier 'far' gives this opening more conviction than 6.5's plainer 'much... many'. 7.5 achieves a similar effect without the hedge, adding 'if I'm honest' at the end of the sentence instead, a subtly more natural placement.缓和语 'Honestly' 加上重复使用的强调语 'far',让这个开头比6.5分中更平实的 'much... many' 多了一份确信感。7.5在没有缓和语的情况下也达到了类似的效果,转而在句末加入了 'if I'm honest',这是一种略微更自然的位置安排。
    • LRopinion has become a routine step rather than an act of courageThis is a precise, idiomatic contrast. 7.5 varies it slightly to 'a routine reflex rather than an act of courage', swapping 'step' for the more vivid 'reflex', a small but telling upgrade.这是一个精确、地道的对比。7.5将其略作变化为 'a routine reflex rather than an act of courage',用更生动的 'reflex' 替换了 'step',是一个虽小却颇能说明问题的升级。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCWhether the opinions are any more considered is another matter entirely, but the sheer volume is staggering now, in a way that would have baffled shopkeepers a generation ago. This closing sentence extends the contrast made at the lower bands with an additional trailing clause comparing today to a past generation, giving the conclusion more historical depth. Neither 6.5 nor 7.0 reaches this far beyond the immediate comparison.这句收尾句在低分段所做的对比基础上,又加入了一个尾随分句,把当下和过去一代人做对比,让这个结论多了一层历史的纵深感。6.5分和7.0分都没有超出眼前的比较,走到这一步。
    • LRpurely because the app asked her to'Purely because' is a precise, slightly more formal intensifier than the plain 'because' used at 6.5 or 'simply because' at 7.0. It shows a small but deliberate step up in register for the same causal link.'Purely because' 是一个精确、略显正式的强调语,比6.5分中平实的 'because' 或7.0分中的 'simply because' 都更进一步。这展现出针对同一因果关系,语域上一个虽小却经过刻意选择的提升。
    • GRAMy mother went sixty years without ever once complaining to a shop, and last year wrote her first review — of a rice cooker, four stars, with a note about the lid — purely because the app asked her to and it took all of thirty seconds. This sentence embeds a dash-set appositive list in the middle of a long coordinated sentence, managing considerably more detail in one unit than the shorter equivalent at 6.5. That capacity to sustain a long, multi-part sentence without losing clarity is a hallmark of the grammatical range expected at 7.5.这句话在一个长长的并列句中间,嵌入了一个由破折号标出的同位语列举,在一个单元里承载了比6.5分中更简短的对应版本多得多的细节。这种能在不丧失清晰度的情况下维持一个长的、多部分句子的能力,是7.5分中所期望的语法广度的典型标志。

    为什么是这个分数

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCthe internet strips that away and then wonders why everyone sounds so angryThis closing personifies the internet as an actor that both causes and is puzzled by a problem, giving the ending a sharp, slightly satirical edge. Neither 6.5 nor 7.0 personifies the internet this directly; both describe the effect more literally.这个收尾把互联网拟人化为一个既制造问题、又对此感到困惑的行动者,让结尾多了一层犀利、略带讽刺意味的锋芒。6.5分和7.0分都没有如此直接地把互联网拟人化;两者都用更字面化的方式描述这种效果。
    • LRconflict gets defused before it starts'Defused' is a precise, vivid metaphor, borrowed from bomb disposal, for preventing conflict, well beyond the plain 'avoids conflict' used at 6.5 and 7.0. It shows the kind of natural, image-rich vocabulary that marks 7.5.'Defused' 是一个精确、生动的比喻,借用自拆除炸弹的说法,用来表达防止冲突,远远超出了6.5分和7.0分中平实的 'avoids conflict'。这展现出7.5分典型的那种自然、富有意象的词汇运用。
    • GRAA screen removes the face that would normally soften us; nobody sees the effect of their words, and there's no risk of an awkward silence to check them. This sentence uses a semicolon to join two independent clauses and adds a further purpose phrase at the end, managing more layers of reasoning in one unit than either lower band. That density, built through flexible punctuation, is characteristic of 7.5 grammar.这句话用分号连接了两个独立分句,并在末尾又加了一个目的短语,在一个单元里承载了比两个较低分段都更多层次的推理。这种通过灵活标点构建出的密度,是7.5分语法的典型特征。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCMine, for one — as a designer, I get asked 'what do you think of this?' many times a day, and being paid for an honest answer is most of the job. This opening sentence uses a dash to introduce the personal example directly, a clear and effective structure for 6.5. Both higher bands keep this same dash structure almost unchanged, showing that at this level the technique itself can already be strong; the real differences appear in the surrounding vocabulary and the closing sentence.这个开场句用一个破折号直接引出个人例子,对6.5分来说是一个清晰、有效的结构。两个更高的分段几乎原封不动地保留了这个破折号结构,说明这个层次上这种技巧本身就已经相当扎实;真正的差异出现在周围的词汇和收尾句上。
    • LRDoctors and lawyers give opinions that have real consequences'Have real consequences' is a plain, functional phrase. 7.5 upgrades the equivalent idea to 'dispense opinions with real consequences', using the more formal, precise verb 'dispense' for a stronger register.'Have real consequences' 是一个平实、功能性的短语。7.5将同样的想法升级为 'dispense opinions with real consequences',用更正式、更精确的动词 'dispense' 来提升语域。
    • GRAWhat's interesting is that some jobs, like a customs officer, don't allow personal opinion at all. This is a single sentence giving one example, correct but limited. Both higher bands extend the same idea into a longer sentence with a three-item dash-set list and a 'where' clause explaining the underlying skill, showing considerably more developed structure for the same point.这是一个只给出一个例子的单句,正确但有限。两个更高的分段都把同样的想法延伸为一个更长的句子,加入了一个由破折号标出的三项列举,以及一个解释背后所需技能的 'where' 从句,展现出针对同一观点更为成熟的结构。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCWhat's interesting, though, is the jobs where opinion is actually forbidden — a customs officer, a referee, an accountant — where the whole skill is applying rules without letting your view show. This closing observation is introduced with the concessive 'though', signalling a deliberate shift in direction after the main argument, a step beyond 6.5's plainer 'What's interesting is that...'. 7.5 keeps this same shift but adds 'genuinely' and a final summarising sentence, extending the reflection even further.这个收尾的观察用让步词 'though' 引出,提示在主要论证之后有意进行了一次方向转折,比6.5分中更平淡的 'What's interesting is that...' 更进一步。7.5保留了同样的转折,但加入了 'genuinely',并加了一句总结性的收尾句,把这层思考延伸得更远。

Adds a final reflective sentence applying to both kinds of job discussed, something neither lower band includes.加入了一句最后的反思句,同时适用于前面讨论的两种职业类型,这是另外两个较低分段都没有涉及的内容。

Mine, for one — a designer gets asked 'what do you think of this?' twenty times a day, and being paid for an honest answer is essentially the whole job. Consultants, critics, editors and advisers of every stripe are much the same, since their opinion effectively is the product. Doctors and lawyers dispense opinions with real consequences, and they're held accountable for them in a way most professions never are. Teachers give opinions on work constantly; my sister marks essays she personally disagrees with and has to keep the two firmly apart. What's genuinely interesting, though, is the jobs where opinion is explicitly forbidden — a customs officer, a referee, an accountant — where the whole skill lies in applying rules without ever letting your view show. Both kinds turn out to be harder than they look.

    • FCBoth kinds turn out to be harder than they look. This final sentence steps back from the specific examples to state a general reflection that applies to both types of job discussed, giving the whole answer a clear sense of arriving at a conclusion. Neither 6.5 nor 7.0 includes this kind of summarising final observation; both stop at the last example given.这句最后的句子从具体的例子中抽身而出,给出了一个同时适用于前面讨论的两种职业类型的总体反思,让整个答案有了一种明确抵达结论的感觉。6.5分和7.0分都没有包含这种总结性的收尾观察;两者都在最后一个例子处就止步了。
    • LRtheir opinion effectively is the productThis is a precise, almost paradoxical way of collapsing the distinction between a person's opinion and what they're paid for, more economical than the plainer 'is essentially the product' used at 7.0. It shows the kind of tight, natural phrasing that marks 7.5 lexical resource.这是一种精确、近乎悖论式的方式,把一个人的意见和他们所获报酬的对象之间的区别彻底抹平,比7.0分中更平淡的 'is essentially the product' 更为经济。这展现出7.5分词汇运用典型的那种紧凑、自然的措辞。
    • GRADoctors and lawyers dispense opinions with real consequences, and they're held accountable for them in a way most professions never are. This sentence adds a comparative relative clause onto an already complete sentence, extending the reasoning further than either lower band. That capacity to keep building a sentence with additional, precisely judged comparison is a hallmark of 7.5 grammar.这句话在一个已经完整的句子上又加了一个比较性的定语从句,把推理延伸得比两个较低分段都更远。这种能够用额外的、判断精准的比较持续扩展句子的能力,是7.5分语法的典型标志。

Ends with one 'so' result clause, whereas the higher bands add a further sentence extending the argument.以一个 'so' 结果从句结尾,而更高分段则加入了另一句来延伸论证。

Important, but not really because of the speeches. The plan to protect Da Nang's beach from erosion got funding after a regional conference put coastal cities on the agenda and put our officials with people who had money and knowledge. Conferences work by connecting problems to resources, and by making countries commit in front of each other. The environment is an example, because no country can fix climate change alone, and without a shared table, there's no way to share it. The weak point is that promises made at conferences are cheap, so results often disappoint.

    • FCImportant, but not really because of the speeches. This short opening states the qualified answer plainly, in keeping with 6.5's direct style. 7.0 softens this with the hedge 'Honestly' and 'though', and 7.5 adds 'themselves' plus a trailing 'if I'm honest', both giving the same opening more nuance.这个简短的开头平白地陈述了这个有所保留的答案,符合6.5分直接的风格。7.0用缓和语 'Honestly' 和 'though' 软化了它;7.5则加入了 'themselves' 以及句末的 'if I'm honest',两者都让同样的开头多了一层细腻感。
    • LRConferences work by connecting problems to resources'Connecting' is a plain, functional verb. 7.5 upgrades this to 'tethering problems to resources', a more vivid, physical metaphor for the identical idea.'Connecting' 是一个平实、功能性的动词。7.5将其升级为 'tethering problems to resources',用一个更生动、带有身体动作意味的比喻来表达同一个想法。
    • GRAThe weak point is that promises made at conferences are cheap, so results often disappoint. This uses 'so' to give a simple result, correct and clear. 7.5 extends a similar sentence with an additional coordinated clause about enforcement and a whole new final sentence about the alternative, showing considerably more developed argument.这里用 'so' 给出了一个简单的结果,正确且清晰。7.5在一个类似的句子上延伸出了另一个关于「执行力」的并列分句,还加了一整句全新的、关于「替代方案」的收尾句,展现出成熟得多的论证。
    7.0 分

Softens the opening with 'Honestly... though' and adds 'enforcement is thin' as a second cause, beyond 6.5's single reason.用 'Honestly... though' 软化了开场,并加入了 'enforcement is thin' 作为第二个原因,超出了6.5分中单一的理由。

Honestly, important, though not really for the speeches. The plan to protect Da Nang's beach from erosion actually got funding after a regional conference put coastal cities on the agenda and put our officials in a room with people who had both money and expertise — conferences work by connecting problems to resources and by making countries commit to things in front of each other. The environment is probably the clearest case, since no single nation can fix the climate alone, and without a shared table there's no way to divide the burden. The weakness is that promises made at conferences are cheap and enforcement is thin, so the results often disappoint.

    • FCHonestly, important, though not really for the speeches. The hedge 'Honestly' combined with the concessive 'though' gives this opening a more careful, spoken quality than 6.5's flatter version. 7.5 reaches a similarly qualified tone by moving a nearly identical hedge to the end of the sentence, a marginally more natural placement.缓和语 'Honestly' 和让步词 'though' 结合,让这个开头比6.5分中更平淡的版本多了一份更谨慎、更口语化的质感。7.5通过把一个几乎相同的缓和语移到句末,达到了类似的、有所保留的语气,这种位置安排略微更自然。
    • LRpeople who had both money and expertiseThis is a clear, functional pairing. 7.5 keeps the same pairing but adds 'actually' before it, a small intensifier that sharpens the same point without changing the core vocabulary.这是一个清晰、功能性的搭配。7.5保留了同样的搭配,但在前面加入了 'actually',这是一个小小的强调语,能在不改变核心词汇的情况下让这一点更加犀利。
    • GRAconferences work by connecting problems to resources and by making countries commit to things in front of each otherThis sentence uses a parallel 'by... and by...' structure, correct and fluent. 7.5 keeps the same parallel structure but replaces 'connecting' with the more vivid 'tethering' and drops 'to things', a marginally tighter and more image-based variant.这句话用了并列的 'by... and by...' 结构,正确且流畅。7.5保留了同样的并列结构,但用更生动的 'tethering' 替换了 'connecting',并去掉了 'to things',是一个略微更紧凑、更富意象的变体。
    7.5 分

Adds a whole new closing argument about the failed alternative, giving the ending far more weight than either lower band.加入了一整段全新的收尾论证,讲的是那个已经失败的替代方案,让结尾比两个较低分段都更有分量。

Important, though rarely for the speeches themselves, if I'm honest. The plan to protect Da Nang's beach from erosion only got funding after a regional conference put coastal cities on the agenda and put our officials in a room with people who actually had money and expertise — conferences work by tethering problems to resources and by making countries commit in front of each other. The environment is perhaps the clearest case, since no single nation can fix the climate alone, and without a shared table there's simply no way to divide the burden fairly. The weakness is that promises made at conferences come cheap and enforcement stays thin, so results often disappoint. But the alternative — every country deciding alone — has already been tried, and that's largely how we got here.

    • FCBut the alternative — every country deciding alone — has already been tried, and that's largely how we got here. This final sentence adds a whole new argument — that the alternative to conferences has already failed — giving the answer a stronger, more complete sense of closure than either lower band. Neither 6.5 nor 7.0 reaches this far; both end on the simpler observation that promises are cheap.这句最后的句子加入了一整个全新的论证——即会议的替代方案已经失败了——让答案比两个较低分段都拥有更强、更完整的收尾感。6.5分和7.0分都没有走到这一步;两者都止步于「承诺代价低廉」这个更简单的观察。
    • LRtethering problems to resources'Tethering' is a vivid, physical metaphor for firmly connecting two things, well beyond the plain 'connecting' used at 6.5 and 7.0. It shows the kind of natural, image-rich vocabulary that marks 7.5.'Tethering' 是一个生动、带有身体动作意味的比喻,用来表达把两件事物牢牢连接在一起,远远超出了6.5分和7.0分中平实的 'connecting'。这展现出7.5分典型的那种自然、富有意象的词汇运用。
    • GRAThe weakness is that promises made at conferences come cheap and enforcement stays thin, so results often disappoint. This sentence uses two parallel verb phrases joined by 'and' before the 'so' result clause, a more balanced and rhythmic structure than the single clause used at 6.5. This kind of deliberate internal parallelism within a result sentence is a marker of the wider grammatical range expected at 7.5.这句话在 'so' 结果从句之前,用 'and' 连接了两个并列的动词短语,比6.5分中单一的分句拥有更平衡、更有节奏感的结构。这种在一个结果句内部有意为之的并列结构,是7.5分中所期望的更宽广语法范围的一个标志。
