A plain comparative ('cleaner than the beaches near my home') and a direct, simple recommendation at the end keep the answer correct but unembellished, Band 6.5 level.

The holiday I would recommend is Quy Nhon, a beach city south of Da Nang. I went there last summer with my friend Hà, and we chose it because we wanted somewhere with a nice beach that wasn't too crowded or too expensive.

We went because Hà had seen photos of Quy Nhon on Facebook and said it looked much quieter than Da Nang or Nha Trang, so we booked a bus ticket and a small hotel near the beach.

While we were there, we spent most of our time swimming and relaxing at Ky Co beach, which has really clear blue water. We also visited a place called Eo Gio, which means "Wind Gap," where there are big rocks next to the sea and a beautiful view. In the evenings, we walked along the seafront and ate fresh seafood, which was cheap and delicious.

I would recommend Quy Nhon because it still feels calm and a bit untouched, not like some beach cities that are full of hotels and tourists everywhere. The water is cleaner than the beaches near my home, and the local people were very friendly. It's also not too far from Da Nang, so it's an easy trip. I think anyone who wants a relaxing beach holiday without huge crowds should try it.

  • LRvery friendly"Very friendly" is about as plain and high-frequency as adjective phrases get, describing the locals with no more specific alternative like "welcoming" or "warm." It does the job clearly and is grammatically flawless, but it's exactly the kind of single expected word choice that keeps an answer at 6.5 rather than reaching for anything more varied. It sits in a list alongside "cleaner" water, both plain comparative claims made about the destination."Very friendly"几乎是形容词短语中最平实、最高频的一种,用来描述当地人,而没有使用像"welcoming"或"warm"这样更具体的替代词。
  • GRAit still feels calm and a bit untouched, not like some beach cities that are full of hotels and tourists everywhereThe comparison is built with "not like," a simple and direct way to contrast Quy Nhon against other beach cities, rather than a more formal comparative structure such as "unlike many beach cities" or a relative clause. It's used accurately and gets the contrast across clearly, but the grammar itself isn't varied beyond this one comparative device across the sentence. This matches the 6.5 pattern of using one correct structure per idea rather than combining several.
  • FCI think anyone who wants a relaxing beach holiday without huge crowds should try it.The answer closes with a direct, general recommendation stated plainly, without adding a personal reflection on what the trip meant or a nuanced qualification. At 6.5, ending on a clear, simple recommendation like this is sufficient to complete the response coherently; a 7.5 answer would likely turn this into something more specific or evaluative rather than a generic "should try it." It mirrors the straightforward, unembellished tone used throughout the rest of the answer.

The honest, balanced observation that 'the coral wasn't perfect, but there were plenty of colourful fish' develops the answer with a concrete, reasoned example typical of Band 7.0.'

The place I'd recommend is Phú Quốc, an island in the south of Vietnam. I went there two years ago with my partner, and we chose it mainly because we wanted a proper beach holiday somewhere we hadn't been before.

We decided on Phú Quốc after a friend recommended it, saying the water was much clearer than most of the beaches closer to us. So we booked flights and a small resort near the southern part of the island for about five days.

While we were there, we spent most mornings swimming and relaxing on the beach, and one day we went on a boat trip to a few of the smaller islands nearby for snorkelling, which was honestly one of the highlights of the trip — the coral wasn't perfect, but there were plenty of colourful fish. In the evenings we usually went to the night market, which has a good range of fresh seafood at reasonable prices, and we also visited a pepper farm one afternoon, since the island is known for growing it.

I'd recommend Phú Quốc because it manages to feel relaxed without being boring — there's enough to do if you want to be active, like the boat trips, but it's just as easy to do nothing but lie on the beach for a day. The seafood is genuinely excellent and reasonably cheap compared to what you'd pay for similar quality elsewhere. It's a bit more effort to get to than somewhere like Da Nang, since you need to fly, but for a proper relaxing break, I think it's well worth the trip.

  • LRit manages to feel relaxed without being boring"Manages to feel" is a flexible verb phrase that implies a slight tension being resolved — the place could have been boring, but it "manages" not to be — which is more precise than simply saying it's relaxing and fun. A 6.5 speaker would likely use the plainer pairing; this phrasing shows the natural, idiomatic-leaning collocation the 7.0 band targets without tipping into a genuinely rare word. It also functions as the topic sentence for the whole recommendation paragraph that follows."Manages to feel"是一个灵活的动词短语,暗示着一种轻微紧张感被化解——这个地方本可能显得无聊,但它"manages"没有落入这种境地——这比单纯说它令人放松、有趣要精准得多。
  • FCthe coral wasn't perfect, but there were plenty of colourful fishRather than only praising the snorkelling trip, the speaker volunteers a small honest qualification before balancing it with a positive, which is the kind of even-handed development that makes an answer sound genuinely fluent rather than rehearsed. A 6.5 answer would likely just say the snorkelling was good; only at 7.0 does the speaker add this kind of realistic caveat as a concrete example. It keeps the recommendation credible, since an entirely uncritical account would read as less natural.
  • GRAthe water was much clearer than most of the beaches closer to usThis is an accurate comparative structure using "much clearer than," correctly handling the intensifier and the comparison target in one smooth clause. It's not grammatically ambitious — no relative clause or conditional is layered on — which keeps it at 7.0 rather than 7.5, but it's used naturally and without hesitation as part of the everyday mix of sentence types the descriptor expects. It also reports secondhand information from a friend's recommendation, which the comparative form handles cleanly.

The metaphor 'a guest in a village rather than a customer in a machine' and the wry aside about booking 'in a group chat at eleven at night' show the idiomatic precision of Band 7.5.隐喻 'a guest in a village rather than a customer in a machine'(是村庄里的客人,而非机器前的顾客),以及那句关于'晚上十一点在群聊里订好'的诙谐插叙,都展现出7.5分那种地道而精准的语言功力。

The holiday I'd recommend is Phong Nha, in Quảng Bình province, about six hours north of Da Nang. I went last October with three people from my running group — we'd been talking about a trip for a year and finally booked it in a group chat at eleven at night, which is how most of our decisions get made.

We went because two of them wanted the caves, which are the famous thing: enormous limestone caves, some of the biggest in the world, in a national park of jungle and rivers. I mostly went because I needed a week without a screen and the others assured me there'd be no signal in the caves, which turned out to be true.

What we did was more varied than I expected. We kayaked into one cave on a river that ran straight under a mountain, with the light disappearing behind us until we were paddling by headlamp. We walked through another one that had a beach inside it — an actual sand beach, underground, which I still can't quite believe. Outside the caves, we stayed at a farm homestay run by a family who fed us until it hurt, rented bicycles and rode through the valley at dusk with buffalo wandering across the road, and one evening simply sat on a wooden platform over the river doing nothing, which for four people who normally run for fun was a genuine achievement.

Why I'd recommend it is that it's the rare place that's spectacular and unhurried at the same time. It hasn't been turned into a resort — yet — so you're a guest in a village rather than a customer in a machine. It's affordable, the people are kind, and you come home feeling like you've been somewhere rather than just away. My only warning is to go before everyone else reads the same recommendation.

  • FCfinally booked it in a group chat at eleven at night, which is how most of our decisions get madeThe wry aside, "which is how most of our decisions get made," turns a simple narrative detail — when the trip was booked — into a small reflective observation about how the friend group operates, which is exactly the kind of evaluative touch the 7.5 descriptor wants beyond plain narration. A 7.0 answer would likely just state the trip was booked casually and move on. It also sets the informal, slightly self-aware tone that continues through the rest of the answer, including the closing warning about the place getting too popular.
  • LRyou're a guest in a village rather than a customer in a machineThis is a genuinely figurative, idiomatic-feeling contrast — "guest" versus "customer," "village" versus "machine" — built as a clean parallel metaphor rather than literal description, which is precisely the one figurative or idiomatic touch the 7.5 lexical descriptor asks for. A 7.0 answer would more likely say something literal like "it hasn't been made touristy yet." The metaphor also crystallizes the whole argument of the paragraph, that Phong Nha hasn't yet been turned into a resort. Band 7.0的答案更可能说出像"it hasn't been made touristy yet"这样字面化的表达。
  • GRAIt hasn't been turned into a resort — yet — so you're a guest in a village rather than a customer in a machine. The inserted 'yet' and the following result clause form a flexible, less-common structure handled with confidence, reflecting Band 7.5 grammatical range.

The 6.5 answer states a direct opinion with simple connectors like 'because' and 'and', supported by one plain example (Da Nang and Nha Trang) rather than any elaboration.6.5分的答案用简单的连接词,比如 'because' 和 'and',直接陈述了观点,并只用一个朴素的例子(岘港和芽庄)来支撑,没有更多的展开。

Most people in my country go to the beach for their holiday, because the weather is hot and cities like Da Nang and Nha Trang are very popular in summer. Some people, especially older people, like to go to the mountains, like Da Lat, because it is cooler there. Older people also often visit pagodas or temples, like my parents do. And at Tết, families go back to their home village. Nowadays more people also travel to other countries, like Thailand or Japan.

    • FCAnd at Tết, families go back to their home village. This shows the 6.5 pattern of starting a new sentence with 'And' to add a point rather than folding it into an existing sentence. A 7.5 answer would instead compress this into a subordinate clause within a longer sentence, so the ideas read as connected rather than listed.
    • LRvery popular in summerThis is a generic, high-frequency collocation. A higher band would reach for something more specific and vivid, like 'swelling with tourists', instead of the flat 'very popular'.
    • GRAbecause the weather is hotThis is a simple because-clause, the most basic form of subordination. Higher bands vary their connectors and often use non-finite structures, such as participial phrases, instead of repeating 'because' throughout.

The 7.0 answer opens with the spoken hedge 'Honestly, it depends a lot on age' and links ideas with a dash-based aside, showing more natural reflection than the 6.5 version's plain listing.7.0分的答案以口语化的模糊语气 'Honestly, it depends a lot on age' 开头,并用一个破折号插入语来连接观点,比6.5版本平淡的罗列展现出更自然的反思。

Honestly, it depends a lot on age. Younger people head to the coast — cities like Da Nang and Nha Trang basically fill up with domestic tourists once summer starts — while older people, my parents included, tend to combine a trip with visiting pagodas or historical sites. The mountain towns, Da Lat and Sa Pa, are popular too, mainly with people trying to escape the heat. Then there's Tết, when almost everyone travels home to their village, which I'd say is more of a duty than a holiday. More recently, going abroad, to places like Thailand or Korea, has become common as well.

    • FCHonestly, it depends a lot on age. This spoken discourse marker signals genuine reflection before the answer proper begins, which is more natural than the 6.5 band's flat opening statement but still short of the compressed, idiomatic openers seen at 7.5.
    • LRbasically fill up with domestic tourists'Fill up with' is a more natural, image-based collocation than the plain 'very popular' used at 6.5, though it is still a common enough phrase that it falls short of the genuinely less-common vocabulary expected at 7.5.'Fill up with' 是一个比6.5分使用的朴素 'very popular' 更自然、更具画面感的搭配,不过它仍然是一个相当常见的短语,还达不到7.5分所期待的那种真正低频的词汇。
    • GRAonce summer starts — while older peopleThe dash-interruption followed by a 'while' contrast clause shows a longer, more flexible sentence than the short because-clauses typical of 6.5, though it is not as compact as the fronted structures used at 7.5.

The 7.5 answer opens with a fronted conditional ('If you mapped it out'), uses the idiomatic verb 'gravitate toward' instead of a plain word, and closes with a self-aware evaluative remark identifying the underlying pattern.7.5分的答案以前置条件句("If you mapped it out")开头,用了地道的动词 'gravitate toward',而不是一个朴素的词,并以一个带自我意识的评价性结语收尾,点明了背后隐藏的模式。

If you mapped it out, the whole country seems to drift toward the coast the moment summer hits, with Da Nang and Nha Trang swelling with domestic tourists. Older generations, though, gravitate toward something with a bit more purpose — my parents' idea of a trip rarely skips a pagoda — while the cooler mountain towns, Da Lat and Sa Pa, draw people simply desperate to escape the humidity. Tết adds a category of its own: a homeward pilgrimage that's less about relaxing than about obligation. And increasingly, especially among younger professionals, holidays mean crossing a border altogether, usually to Thailand, Japan or Korea. So really, there's a pattern hiding in there — beach for rest, mountains for air, home for duty.

    • FCSo really, there's a pattern hiding in thereThis closing move steps back to name the underlying structure of the whole answer, an evaluative synthesis that neither the 6.5 nor 7.0 versions attempt; those bands simply stop after listing examples.
    • LRgravitate toward something with a bit more purpose'Gravitate toward' is a genuinely less-common, more precise verb than the plain 'like to go to' used at 6.5, giving the description a more idiomatic feel.'Gravitate toward' 是一个真正低频、更精确的动词,比6.5分使用的朴素 'like to go to' 更胜一筹,为这段描述增添了更地道的感觉。
    • GRAIf you mapped it out, the whole country seems to drift toward the coastOpening with a fronted conditional clause before the main subject is a more flexible, compressed structure than the plain subject-first sentences that dominate the 6.5 and 7.0 answers.

The 6.5 answer gives a direct yes/opinion and supports it with one clear comparison (coach tour vs homestay), using simple connectors like 'but' and 'and'.6.5分的答案给出了一个直接的是/否观点,并用一个清晰的比较(跟团大巴游 vs. 民宿)来支撑,使用了简单的连接词,比如 'but' 和 'and'。

Yes, I think so. My parents went on a guided coach tour last year, with a hotel and food all arranged, but my friends and I found a homestay on a farm through a friend's post and just made a plan as we went. Older people usually want comfort and someone to organise everything for them. Younger people want something new and cheap, and they don't mind if it's not comfortable. Sometimes they go to the same place, like Da Lat, but not the same kind of hotel.

    • FCYes, I think so.This short, direct opening states the opinion immediately with no hedging, contrasting with the higher bands, which open with a reflective qualifier before committing to a position.
    • LRwant something new and cheap'New and cheap' is plain, everyday vocabulary. A higher band would use a single more precise word like 'novelty' instead of the two-adjective plain phrase.'New and cheap' 是朴素、日常的词汇。
    • GRAbut my friends and I found a homestay on a farm through a friend's post and just made a plan as we wentThis long sentence is built by simply coordinating clauses with 'and', rather than using subordination, which keeps the grammar basic despite the sentence's length.

The 7.0 answer opens with the qualifying phrase 'To some extent, yes' and reframes the question with 'it's less about the place and more about how', showing the mild hedging typical of this band.7.0分的答案以限定短语 'To some extent, yes' 开头,并用 'it's less about the place and more about how' 重新框定了问题,展现出这个分段典型的轻微模糊语气。

To some extent, yes — though it's less about the place and more about how people want to experience it. My parents took a fully guided coach tour up north, everything arranged down to the meals, whereas my friends and I found a farm homestay through someone's social media post and improvised the rest. I'd say older travellers lean toward comfort, safety and letting someone else handle the logistics, while younger ones are after novelty and a good story, even if that means putting up with a bit of discomfort. Interestingly, the destinations sometimes overlap, like Da Lat, just not the accommodation.

    • LRlean toward comfort, safety and letting someone else handle the logistics'Lean toward' and 'handle the logistics' are moderately natural collocations, a step up from plain vocabulary but not as strikingly precise as the idiomatic phrasing used at 7.5.'Lean toward' 和 'handle the logistics' 是相当自然的搭配,比朴素的词汇更进一步,但没有7.5分使用的那种地道表达那么精确、引人注目。

The 7.5 answer opens with a compressed fragment ('Different places, and honestly more importantly, different ways of being there') and uses idiomatic phrasing like 'winged the rest of the trip' and 'hard-pressed to find them', marking it as the most flexible and idiomatic of the three.7.5分的答案以一个压缩的片段开头("Different places, and honestly more importantly, different ways of being there"),并使用了地道的表达,比如 'winged the rest of the trip' 和 'hard-pressed to find them',标志着这是三者中最灵活、最地道的答案。

Different places, and honestly more importantly, different ways of being there. My parents' idea of a holiday is a guided coach tour — itinerary fixed, meals arranged, back at the hotel by nine — whereas my friends and I stumbled onto a farm homestay through someone's post and winged the rest of the trip. Older travellers, in my experience, prize comfort and having the logistics taken care of, gravitating toward culture and history; younger ones chase novelty and something photogenic, and they'll happily trade comfort for a decent story afterwards. The destinations occasionally overlap — both groups end up in Da Lat — but you'd be hard-pressed to find them sharing a guesthouse.

    • FCDifferent places, and honestly more importantly, different ways of being there. This compact, fragment-style opening directly reframes the question in one economical move, more efficient than the 6.5 band's plain 'Yes, I think so.' and more compressed than the 7.0 band's full-sentence hedge.

I think the best way is to ask a friend who has already been there, not just look at a website. We chose Phong Nha because two friends we trusted said it was great, and that was better than any list online. You should also think honestly about what you want, like rest or adventure. Check the weather for that time of year too. And read the bad reviews, not just the good ones, because bad reviews give more real details. Don't plan too much either.

    • FCDon't plan too much either. This short imperative is tacked onto the end as a separate, final point, showing the additive, list-like structure typical of 6.5 rather than integration into an existing sentence.
    • LRjust look at a websiteThis is plain, generic phrasing. A higher band would use a more specific, idiomatic phrase such as 'algorithm-generated list' instead of the vague 'website'.
    • GRAWe chose Phong Nha because two friends we trusted said it was great, and that was better than any list online. This sentence uses only basic coordination ('and') and a single 'because' clause, the simplest tools for connecting ideas.

The 7.0 answer opens with the spoken hedge 'Honestly, I'd trust' and adds a reflective aside about bad holidays coming from choosing 'who you'd like to be rather than who you are', going beyond the 6.5 answer's flat listing.7.0分的答案以口语化的模糊语气 'Honestly, I'd trust' 开头,并加上了一句反思性的插入语——糟糕的假期源于选择了"你想成为的那个人"而不是"真实的你"——超越了6.5分平淡的罗列。

Honestly, I'd trust a person who's actually been somewhere over any ranking website. We picked Phong Nha mainly because two friends we trusted had loved it, and that turned out to matter more than any list could. Beyond that, it helps to be honest with yourself about what you actually want — rest or adventure, quiet or crowds — since a lot of bad holidays come from choosing somewhere that suits who you'd like to be rather than who you are. I'd also check the season carefully, and read the complaints in reviews rather than the praise, since complaints tend to be far more specific.

    • FCBeyond that, it helps to be honest with yourself about what you actually wantThis transition phrase organises the answer into stages ('Beyond that...') rather than simply appending points with 'And', showing more deliberate coherence-building than 6.5.
    • LRread the complaints in reviews rather than the praiseThis is a natural, moderately precise phrasing, a step up from entirely plain vocabulary though not as idiomatic as the compressed phrasing used at 7.5.

Ask someone who's been there rather than something that ranks it, honestly — that's the rule I go by. We settled on Phong Nha purely because two people we trusted had raved about it, and that turned out to be worth more than any algorithm-generated list. Beyond that, being brutally honest about what you actually want matters more than people admit; most disappointing holidays come from picking a place that suits the person you'd like to be rather than the one you are. Checking the season is non-negotiable too — central Vietnam in October is a gamble — and I always skim reviews for the complaints rather than the praise, since praise tends to be generic while complaints are specific. Leaving the plan a little loose helps as well.

    • FCthat's the rule I go byThis closing tag reinforces the opening claim in a tight, economical way, showing tighter organisation than the plain, separate points of the 6.5 answer.

Families with children are tied to school breaks, which explains why every beach is packed in July. If people do have flexibility, weather usually decides it, since nobody plans a coastal trip for the rainy season on purpose. Money matters too, because off-season travel is noticeably cheaper. And some, frankly, just wait until they're exhausted and book on a whim.

Mostly, the decision gets made for people rather than by them. At my studio, the annual tug-of-war over who gets the week after Tết kicks off in November, and most people's holidays simply land wherever work, school terms and public holidays happen to leave a gap. Families with school-age children are essentially locked into term breaks, which is why every beach is heaving by July. Weather tips the scale for anyone with real flexibility, since nobody schedules a coastal trip for the rainy season on purpose, and money decides the rest, with off-season travel being the obvious bargain. Then there's the least rational method of all, and probably the most common: waiting until you're utterly worn out and booking on a whim.

One member of our group was genuinely uneasy about having no schedule for the second day, and to be fair, a full plan does mean less wasted time and nothing sold out. That said, the best memory from that whole trip was an unplanned bicycle ride at dusk, which only happened because we had an empty afternoon to fill. Detailed plans also tend to collapse at the first bit of rain, which leaves the planner miserable. Personally, I'd plan the things that can't be improvised, like transport and the first night, and leave everything else open.

    • FCThat said, the best memory from that whole trip was an unplanned bicycle ride at duskThe contrastive discourse marker 'That said' signals a deliberate shift in the argument, organising the answer more clearly than the plain 'But' used at 6.5.
    • LRwhich only happened because we had an empty afternoon to fill'An empty afternoon to fill' is a moderately natural collocation, a step above the plain wording at 6.5 though not as vivid as the idiomatic phrasing at 7.5.'An empty afternoon to fill' 是一个相当自然的搭配,比6.5分朴素的措辞更进一步,但没有7.5分的地道表达那么生动。
    • GRADetailed plans also tend to collapse at the first bit of rain, which leaves the planner miserable. The relative clause 'which leaves the planner miserable' adds a consequence onto the main clause, a more complex link than the simple coordination in the 6.5 answer.

The 7.5 answer opens with the balanced idiom 'cuts both ways', uses the precise adjective 'watertight' for a plan, and closes with the vivid compressed phrase 'leave the days themselves wide open', marking its more idiomatic, economical style.7.5分的答案以平衡的习语 'cuts both ways' 开头,用了精确的形容词 'watertight' 来形容计划,并以生动、压缩的短语 'leave the days themselves wide open' 收尾,标志着更地道、更经济的风格。

Planning everything removes the anxiety and the surprises in more or less equal measure, so it genuinely cuts both ways. One member of our group was visibly uncomfortable that we had no schedule for the second day, and I get it — a watertight plan means no wasted time, no arguments about what to do, and nothing sold out from under you. But the trip's best memory turned out to be an unplanned bicycle ride at dusk, born purely from an empty afternoon. Detailed plans also tend to unravel at the first drop of rain, leaving the planner miserable. I'd rather nail down only what can't be improvised — transport, the first night, anything needing a booking — and leave the days themselves wide open.

    • FCso it genuinely cuts both waysThis compact evaluative tag summarises the trade-off in a single idiom, a more economical move than the plain labelling ('good and bad points') used at 6.5.

The 6.5 answer gives a direct main reason ('mainly because of the money') and adds further reasons in short separate sentences using 'Also' and 'too', a plain listing structure.6.5分的答案给出了一个直接的主要理由("mainly because of the money"),并用 'Also' 和 'too' 在简短、独立的句子里补充了更多理由,是一种朴素的列举结构。

Countries want tourists mainly because of the money. Tourists spend money on hotels, food, transport and gifts, and this creates jobs quickly, even in places without many factories. Some of this money also builds things like airports and bridges, for example in Da Nang, which local people can also use. Tourism brings in foreign money too, which governments want. Also, tourists go home and tell other people good things about the country. But this money is not always safe — one bad event, like a pandemic, can make it disappear quickly.

    • FCAlso, tourists go home and tell other people good things about the country. This additive sentence, starting with 'Also', is tacked on as a separate point rather than woven into the surrounding argument.

Mainly, I think, because it's money that comes in without needing a factory. Tourists spend on hotels, food, transport and souvenirs, which creates jobs fast, especially in places without much other industry — and a lot of what gets built for them, like Da Nang's airport and bridges, ends up benefiting residents too. There's also the foreign currency angle, which governments care about quite a bit, plus a softer motive: visitors go home as informal ambassadors, so a country people have enjoyed tends to get treated better internationally. The catch, though, is that this income is fragile — one pandemic can wipe it out almost overnight.

    • FCMainly, I think, because it's money that comes in without needing a factory. This reflective hedge, with 'I think' inserted mid-sentence, shows more natural spoken framing than the 6.5 answer's flat declarative opening.

Money that arrives without needing a factory, essentially — that's the appeal for most countries. Tourists pour cash into hotels, food, transport and souvenirs, generating jobs quickly and in places that have precious few other industries, and much of the infrastructure built to serve them, Da Nang's airport and bridges among them, ends up benefiting residents long after the visitors have gone home. Tourism also earns valuable foreign currency, something governments care about enormously, and there's a subtler motive too: visitors return home as informal ambassadors, and a country people have genuinely enjoyed tends to be treated more generously in trade and diplomacy. The one catch is that this money is notoriously fragile — a single pandemic or bad headline, and it evaporates.

    • FCthat's the appeal for most countriesThis compact tag closes the fronted opening in an economical way, tighter than the plain declarative openings used at 6.5 and 7.0.

I think it depends on who owns the business. The family who runs our homestay in Phong Nha built a second house from the money they earned, and their neighbours sell them vegetables, so the money stays in the area. But in some resort towns, the hotels belong to big companies from other places, so the profit leaves with the tourists, and local people only get low-paid jobs and higher prices. So mass tourism can help a lot or help very little, depending on who owns the hotels. Sadly, governments often choose the second kind because it is easier to attract.

    • FCSo mass tourism can help a lot or help very little, depending on who owns the hotels. This summarising sentence repeats the word 'help' rather than varying the vocabulary, a simpler style than the higher bands' more precise phrasing for the same contrast.

Honestly, it depends entirely on who owns what. The family running our homestay in Phong Nha has built a second house purely from tourism income, and their neighbours sell them vegetables — that's money staying exactly where it should. In resort towns where the hotels belong to companies based elsewhere, though, the profits tend to leave on the same plane as the guests, and locals are mostly left with low-paid jobs and higher prices. So mass tourism can return a great deal or almost nothing, and ownership seems to be the deciding factor. Unfortunately, most governments chase the second model, simply because it's easier to attract.

It depends entirely on who owns what, and that single factor seems to decide everything else. In resort towns where the hotels belong to companies headquartered elsewhere, by contrast, the profits leave on the same plane as the guests, leaving locals with little more than low-paid jobs and inflated prices. So mass tourism can return a great deal to a community or almost nothing at all, and the deciding variable is ownership and scale rather than tourist numbers. Most governments, tellingly, chase the second model anyway, purely because it's the easier one to attract.

No, I don't think it can continue like this forever. In Hội An, the old town is so crowded at sunset that local people avoid their own streets. The quiet, beautiful town that tourists come to see is slowly being destroyed by too many visitors. So too much tourism, without any limit, can ruin the very place it depends on. No, honestly, and the evidence for that is right where I live. Hội An's old town gets so packed at sunset that residents genuinely avoid their own streets, and the quiet, lantern-lit atmosphere that tourists actually come for is being slowly worn away by the sheer number of people chasing it. No, and the evidence is already visible where I live. Hội An's old town gets so crowded at sunset that residents actively avoid their own streets, and the very thing tourists come for — a quiet, lantern-lit town — is being steadily eroded by the sheer number of people coming to see it. Left unchecked, tourism essentially consumes the place it depends on. Restrictions needn't mean outright bans: timed tickets, daily visitor caps, steeper peak-season fees, and nudging people toward less crowded spots all do the job. A handful of cities have already gone down this road, and their tourism is noticeably healthier for it. Without limits, popular places seem doomed to follow the same arc — discovered, loved, ruined, abandoned.
