6.5 分

This answer stays plain and direct — a simple listing of what grandmother grows and where, with one clear reason ('keeps her busy and happy') for the closing point, typical of a solid but modest Band 6.5 response.这个答案保持简单直接——只是简要列出奶奶种了什么、种在哪里,结尾处用一个明确的理由('让她保持忙碌和开心')收尾,这是稳健但略显朴素的6.5分答案的典型特征。

The person I want to talk about is my grandmother, who still lives in the family house in Hue with my parents. She is over seventy now, but she still spends most of her mornings in the garden.

What she grows is mainly vegetables and herbs for cooking, like lemongrass, mint, Vietnamese coriander, and a kind of pepper leaf we use for many local dishes. She also grows a few flowers, mostly roses and some yellow chrysanthemums near the gate, which she likes for decoration during Tet.

Where she grows all this is the small yard behind the house, which isn't very big, maybe the size of two parking spaces. She has divided it into small sections with bricks, one for herbs, one for vegetables, and one just for flowers. There's also an old mango tree in the corner that she never planted herself — it was already there when she got married into the family.

Why I think she likes growing plants is because it keeps her busy and happy, especially since my grandfather passed away. She always says the garden needs her every day, rain or shine, and I think that feeling of being needed is important to her. Also, whenever we visit, she gives us bags of vegetables to take home, and I can see how proud that makes her.

  • LRvegetables and herbs for cookingThe phrase names the general category ('vegetables and herbs for cooking') in the plainest possible terms before the sentence goes on to list specific examples (lemongrass, mint, coriander), so the plain opening functions as a simple label the specifics then fill in. A higher-band answer might instead open with a more evocative framing of the garden's purpose; here the vocabulary stays purely functional and descriptive, consistent with the 6.5 target of clear, everyday words carrying the content rather than the words themselves being the point of interest.这个短语用尽可能平实的措辞点出了总类别('vegetables and herbs for cooking'),然后句子才接着列举具体例子(柠檬草、薄荷、香菜),所以这个朴素的开头起到了一个简单标签的作用,由后面的具体内容来填充。更高分段的答案或许会用更有画面感的方式来引出花园的用途;而这里的词汇纯粹是功能性和描述性的,符合Band 6.5的目标——用清晰、日常的词汇来承载内容,而不是让词语本身成为关注点。
  • GRAwhich isn't very big, maybe the size of two parking spacesThe relative clause 'which isn't very big' modifies 'yard' in the most standard way possible, and the appositive-style addition 'maybe the size of two parking spaces' gives a concrete, informal comparison rather than a precise measurement — a natural way to estimate size in spoken English without needing exact numbers. Grammatically this is a single layer of subordination plus a loosely attached comparative phrase, accurate and easy to process, rather than the kind of nested or varied structure a 7.0 answer might use to convey the same spatial detail.关系从句'which isn't very big'以最标准的方式修饰'yard',而同位语式的补充说明'maybe the size of two parking spaces'给出的是一个具体、口语化的类比,而不是精确的测量数据——这是口语英语中估算大小的自然方式,不需要确切数字。从语法上看,这只是一层从属结构外加一个松散附加的比较短语,准确且易于理解,而不是Band 7.0答案在表达同样空间细节时可能采用的那种嵌套或多变的结构。
  • FCShe always says the garden needs her every day, rain or shineThe quoted habit ('she always says...') gives one direct, memorable reason for the grandmother's daily gardening, using the fixed phrase 'rain or shine' as a single, comfortable idiom rather than elaborating further on what 'being needed' means to her emotionally. The sentence stops right after this one supporting detail, without extending into the speaker's own interpretation of why this feeling of being needed matters, keeping the development at the 'one clear reason... is enough' level the 6.5 descriptor sets.被引用的口头禅('she always says...')为祖母每天做园艺给出了一个直接、令人印象深刻的理由,用固定短语'rain or shine'作为一个简单、顺手的习语,而没有进一步阐述"被需要"这种感觉在情感上对她意味着什么。句子在这一个支撑细节之后就戛然而止,没有延伸到说话人自己对"为什么这种被需要的感觉很重要"的解读,把展开程度维持在6.5描述语所设定的"一个清楚的理由……就足够了"这一水平。
7.0 分

The answer expands each cue-card point with a short concrete detail (the wooden shelves made from old furniture, the rigged-up hose) and closes on a personal reflection, giving it more development than a 6.5 answer while staying short of the extended digressions typical of 7.5.这个答案为提示卡上的每一点都补充了一个简短而具体的细节(用旧家具搭的木架、自己接的水管),并以个人感悟收尾,发展程度比6.5分答案更高,但还没达到7.5分那种延展、发散的程度。

The person I'd like to talk about is Mr. Tuấn, a retired teacher who lives two doors down from me in my apartment block. I've known him for around four years, mainly because he's often out on the rooftop when I go up to hang my washing.

What he grows is a real mix. He's got maybe thirty pots of orchids along one wall, which he's quite proud of, plus a smaller section with tomatoes, mint, and a few chilli plants for cooking. He also keeps a couple of small lemon trees in big plastic buckets that he says took years to get flowering properly.

Where he grows everything is the shared rooftop of our building, which technically belongs to all of us, but nobody minds because he keeps it tidy and even waters other people's forgotten plants. He's built simple wooden shelves out of old furniture to fit more pots in, and he's rigged up a hose so he doesn't have to carry water up every day.

Why I think he enjoys it so much is that gardening gives him a proper routine now that he's retired. He told me once that teaching kept him busy for thirty years, and when that stopped, the rooftop became the new thing that needed him every morning. I also think he likes the attention it brings — neighbours often stop to ask about his orchids, and he clearly enjoys explaining how he grows them. Honestly, before I met him I assumed rooftop gardens were only for magazines, but watching him tend to it every day changed my mind completely.

  • GRAwhich technically belongs to all of us, but nobody minds because he keeps it tidyA relative clause, "which technically belongs to all of us," is combined with a because-clause, "because he keeps it tidy," inside the same sentence, handling two different subordinate structures accurately without losing clarity. This is the comfortable complex-sentence mix the 7.0 descriptor describes, more ambitious than a single subordinate clause but not layering in anything like a conditional. It also efficiently explains a slightly unusual social arrangement, using shared rooftop space without objection, that needs both pieces of information to make sense.一个关系从句"which technically belongs to all of us"与一个because从句"because he keeps it tidy"被组合进同一个句子里,准确处理了两种不同的从属结构而不失清晰度。这正是Band 7.0描述中那种从容的复杂句组合方式,比单一的从属从句更有野心,但还没有叠加像条件句那样的结构。这句话也高效地解释了一种略显特殊的社会安排——大家共用屋顶空间却无人异议——而这需要两条信息合在一起才说得通。
  • LRgardening gives him a proper routine now that he's retired"Proper routine" is a natural, everyday-but-flexible collocation, more specific than just saying gardening "keeps him busy," implying structure and regularity, used here to connect the hobby directly to his retirement. This is the step above plain vocabulary the 7.0 lexical descriptor calls for, without being rare or showy. It also directly answers the "why" question posed by the topic, linking the routine to the thirty years of teaching mentioned in the next sentence."Proper routine"(有规律的routine)是一个自然的日常但又灵活的搭配,比单纯说园艺"keeps him busy"(让他保持忙碌)更具体,暗示着一种结构感和规律性,在这里用来把这个爱好直接与他的退休生活联系起来。这正是Band 7.0词汇描述中所要求的、比普通词汇更进一步的用词,但并不罕见或炫技。这个短语也直接回答了话题提出的“为什么”这一问题,把这种规律与下一句提到的三十年教书生涯联系了起来。
  • FCHonestly, before I met him I assumed rooftop gardens were only for magazinesThis opens with the natural spoken connector "Honestly" and then contrasts a prior assumption with a change of mind, giving the closing point real development rather than a flat restatement of admiration. This is the kind of reflective closing the 7.0 descriptor rewards over plain description; a 6.5 answer would likely just say "I think his garden is impressive." It also nicely bookends the whole answer, since it reveals the speaker's own changing perspective rather than only describing Mr. Tuấn's actions.这句话以自然的口语连接词"Honestly"开头,然后把之前的一个假设与后来想法的转变形成对比,使结尾的观点真正有所发展,而不是平淡地重复赞美。这正是Band 7.0描述中看重的反思性结尾,胜过单纯的描写;Band 6.5的答案很可能只会说"I think his garden is impressive."这句话也巧妙地首尾呼应了整篇回答,因为它揭示的是说话人自己不断变化的看法,而不仅仅是描述Tuấn先生的行为。
7.5 分

The answer opens with a vivid extended simile ('the way you get to know someone in a tower') and closes on the figurative 'quiet colonisation', showing the sustained image-building and idiomatic reach expected at Band 7.5.答案开头用了一个生动而延展的明喻('在一栋楼里认识一个人的那种方式'),结尾又用了比喻性的'悄悄的殖民',展现出7.5分所要求的持续意象营造能力和地道的语言表达。

The person I'd describe is Mrs Yến, who lives on the twelfth floor of my apartment building, three floors below me. I know her the way you get to know someone in a tower — first by the smell of basil in the lift, then by the seedlings.

What she grows is, frankly, everything that can be grown on a balcony three metres wide. Chillies of at least four kinds in old paint buckets. Vietnamese herbs — coriander, perilla, the sawtooth one — in long trays along the railing. A passion-fruit vine that has climbed the wall, crossed onto the neighbour's balcony, and produces fruit that both households claim. Tomatoes in the good months, lemongrass in a cracked rice pot, and one stubborn papaya tree that everyone told her wouldn't survive in a container and now hits the ceiling of the balcony above.

Where she grows it is the point, really. She has no garden. The balcony faces west, gets brutal afternoon sun, and floods when it rains sideways in October. She's built shade from bamboo, raised everything on bricks, and runs a watering schedule in a notebook that my studio would call a project plan.

Why she likes it, I asked her once, and she gave me two answers. The practical one is that she grew up on a farm outside Quảng Ngãi and moving to a concrete tower at fifty felt like being cut off from the ground. The balcony is her way of keeping a piece of that. The other answer she gave while pressing a chilli seedling into my hands: she likes giving things away, and plants are the only thing she can produce more of every month. Half the balconies in our building now have her chillies on them. It's a kind of quiet colonisation, and the building is better for it.

  • FCI know her the way you get to know someone in a tower — first by the smell of basil in the lift, then by the seedlings. The sentence opens with a generalised claim about apartment-tower relationships ('the way you get to know someone in a tower') and then illustrates it with two parallel sensory stages — first smell, then seedlings — rather than simply stating 'I met her in my building.' Building a mini-argument about how neighbours get to know each other, right at the start of the answer, is the reflective depth the Band 7.5 fluency and coherence target rewards over a plain, purely factual opening. The parallel 'first... then...' structure also sets the tone for the whole answer, which goes on to catalogue Mrs Yến's plants in exactly this kind of accumulating, observational detail.这句话以一个关于公寓楼邻里关系的概括性论断开头("在一栋楼里认识一个人的方式"),然后用两个并列的感官阶段——先是气味,再是幼苗——来说明这一点,而不是简单地说"我在我住的楼里认识了她。"在回答一开始就构建这样一个关于邻居如何相互认识的小论点,正是7.5分流利度与连贯性目标所看重的反思深度,胜过一个纯粹陈述事实的平淡开头。并列的'first... then...'结构也为整个回答定下了基调,后文正是以这种层层累积的观察式细节来描述Yến阿姨的植物。
  • GRAThe balcony faces west, gets brutal afternoon sun, and floods when it rains sideways in October.Three different verb phrases — 'faces west,' 'gets brutal afternoon sun,' 'floods when it rains sideways' — are chained together with the same subject carried across all three, each one adding a distinct and increasingly severe problem with the balcony's conditions. Sustaining that kind of varied, listed verb structure without repeating a simple pattern is the confident, error-free grammatical range the Band 7.5 target rewards, where a lower-band answer would likely offer just one flat description like 'it's a difficult place to grow plants.' The escalating specificity — sun, then flooding, then the precise detail of 'sideways' rain in October — also builds credibility for the claim that Mrs Yến's success is earned rather than easy.
  • LRIt's a kind of quiet colonisation'Colonisation' is normally a loaded, large-scale political word, and using it playfully to describe one woman's chilli plants spreading across a building's balconies is a deliberate, slightly ironic mismatch of register that only works because the speaker trusts the listener to catch the joke. That kind of figurative, idiomatic repurposing of an unexpected word is precisely the Band 7.5 lexical target's 'one figurative or idiomatic touch if it fits the moment,' well beyond the plain description a 6.5 answer would offer ('she shares her plants with neighbours'). It also lands as the answer's final punchline, giving the whole anecdote a witty, memorable close rather than ending on a flat factual statement.'Colonisation'(殖民)通常是一个带有政治色彩、指涉宏大规模的沉重词汇,而用它来俏皮地描述一位女士的辣椒植株蔓延到整栋楼各个阳台的情形,是一种刻意为之、略带反讽意味的语域错位用法,只有在说话者信任听者能领会这个玩笑时才成立。这种把一个出人意料的词进行比喻性、习语化再利用的做法,正是7.5分词汇目标所说的"在合适时机点缀一处比喻或习语",远远超出6.5分答案会给出的平实描述("她把自己的植物分享给邻居")。它也是整个回答最后的点睛之笔,让整段轶事以机智、令人难忘的方式收尾,而不是以平淡的事实陈述结束。

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion and one simple reason, closing with the plain linking phrase 'So growing plants is a normal part of life here.'6.5版本给出了一个直接的观点和一个简单的原因,以朴素的连接短语"So growing plants is a normal part of life here."收尾。

Yes, it's very common in my country. In Hue, where I grew up, most houses have a small yard or rooftop with kumquat trees, bonsai, and pots of herbs, and people in flats in Da Nang grow plants on their balconies too. I think it's common because herbs are used in almost every meal, so growing them saves money. Plants are also important at Tết, when streets turn into flower markets. So growing plants is a normal part of life here.

    是的,在我们国家非常普遍。我在顺化长大,那里大多数房子都有一个小院子或者屋顶,种着金桔树、盆景,还有一盆盆的香草,岘港住公寓的人也会在阳台上种植物。我觉得这么普遍,是因为香草几乎每一顿饭都要用到,所以自己种能省钱。植物在春节期间也很重要,那时候街道会变成花市。所以种植物在这里是生活中很正常的一部分。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo growing plants is a normal part of life here. This closing sentence uses the simplest possible connector, 'So', to sum up the answer in a single linear step. A 7.0+ answer would instead use a reflective closer like 'so the habit really does run deep', which adds a small evaluative twist rather than just restating the point. It shows coherent but very basic organisation.这个结尾句用了最简单的连接词"So",把整个回答的观点用一个直线式的单一步骤总结了出来。7.0以上的回答会改用一个更具反思性的收尾方式,比如"so the habit really does run deep",加入一点评价性的转折,而不只是重复观点。它展示了连贯但非常基础的组织方式。
    • LRsaves moneyThis is a plain, everyday collocation that gets the meaning across without any attempt at precision or nuance. A higher band would likely reach for something like 'make a genuine dent in the grocery bill', which is more vivid and specific. Here the vocabulary is accurate but entirely safe and common.这是一个朴素、日常的搭配,能把意思传达出来,但没有任何精准或细致的尝试。更高分数段很可能会用像"make a genuine dent in the grocery bill"这样的表达,这更生动、更具体。这里的词汇准确,但完全是安全、常见的选择。
    • GRAI think it's common because herbs are used in almost every meal, so growing them saves money. This sentence chains two simple clauses together with 'because' and 'so', which is grammatically correct but structurally basic, essentially just cause then effect. A 7.5 answer would likely compress this into a dash-separated explanation or a participial phrase instead of two full linked clauses. It shows accurate but unambitious grammar.这句话用"because"和"so"把两个简单从句串联在一起,语法上是正确的,但结构上很基础,基本上就是原因加结果。7.5版本很可能会把这个想法压缩成一个用破折号隔开的解释,或者一个分词短语,而不是两个完整连接的从句。它展示了准确但不够有野心的语法。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with the natural spoken filler 'Honestly, yes' and adds a mild concessive clause ('even though she has far less space') that shows a touch of reflection beyond a flat statement.7.0版本以自然的口语填充语"Honestly, yes"开场,并加入了一个温和的让步从句("even though she has far less space"),展示出超越平铺直叙陈述的一点反思性。

Honestly, yes — it's common across almost every type of home. Where I grew up in Hue, most houses have a small yard or rooftop crowded with kumquat trees, bonsai, and herb pots, and my neighbour in her Da Nang flat does much the same on her balcony, even though she has far less space. I'd say growing herbs is partly tradition and partly economics, since fresh herbs go into nearly every meal and a few pots save real money. Ornamental plants matter too, especially at Tết, when whole streets turn into flower markets, so the habit really does run deep.

    • FCHonestly, yesThis natural spoken opener signals a personal, considered response rather than a rehearsed one, which examiners associate with genuine fluency. A 6.5 answer would more likely open with a flatter 'Yes, it's very common', skipping this conversational framing. It's a small marker but a very typical 7.0 fluency feature.这个自然的口语开场,标志着一种个人化、经过思考的回应,而不是一种背诵式的回答,这正是考官认为体现真正流利度的标志。6.5版本更可能用更平淡的"Yes, it's very common"开场,跳过这种对话式的框架。这虽然是一个小信号,但却是7.0流利度非常典型的特征。
    • LRpartly tradition and partly economicsThis paired collocation is a step up from a plain word like 'reason', showing the speaker can categorise an idea more precisely. A 6.5 speaker would likely just say 'it's common because', while a 7.5 speaker might push further into a more idiomatic phrase. It sits in the moderately elevated middle ground typical of this band.这个成对的搭配比一个朴素的词比如"reason"更进一步,展示了说话者能更精准地对一个想法进行归类。6.5的说话者很可能只会说"it's common because",而7.5的说话者可能会更进一步,用一个更地道的短语。它处在这个分数段典型的、适度提升的中间地带。
    • GRAeven though she has far less spaceThis concessive clause adds a mild complexity beyond the plain coordination seen at 6.5, showing the speaker can qualify a claim rather than just state it. It isn't as compact as the participial phrases a 7.5 answer might use, but it does demonstrate controlled subordination. This is a solid example of the 'one moderately complex sentence' expected at this band.这个让步从句在6.5版本所展示的简单并列结构之外,加入了一点温和的复杂性,展示出说话者能够限定一个论断,而不只是陈述它。它不如7.5版本可能会用的分词短语那么紧凑,但确实展示出受控的从属结构。这是这个分数段所期待的"一个中等复杂句子"的一个很好的例子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses a fronted structure ('What's newer is the indoor-plant craze...') to pivot the answer and closes with a vivid, idiomatic collocation, 'make a genuine dent in the grocery bill'.7.5版本用一个前置结构("What's newer is the indoor-plant craze...")来转移回答的焦点,并以一个生动、地道的搭配"make a genuine dent in the grocery bill"收尾。

Very much so, and it cuts across every kind of home. Back in Hue, almost every house has a small yard or rooftop crowded with kumquat trees, bonsai, and pots of herbs, while apartment dwellers in Da Nang, my neighbour among them, make do with the same arrangement squeezed onto a balcony. Growing food plants is partly tradition, partly economics — fresh herbs feature in nearly every meal, and a few pots make a genuine dent in the grocery bill. Ornamental plants carry their own weight too, especially around Tết, when entire streets are transformed into flower markets. What's newer is the indoor-plant craze among young people, driven more by aesthetics than utility, but the underlying habit is old and deep.

    • FCWhat's newer is the indoor-plant craze among young peopleThis fronted cleft structure signals a deliberate shift in the answer's focus, managing the discourse more elegantly than a plain 'Also, young people like indoor plants now' would. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would likely introduce this idea with a flatter connector. It shows the kind of flexible topic management examiners reward at the top band.这个前置的分裂句结构,标志着回答焦点的一次刻意转移,比一句平淡的"Also, young people like indoor plants now"更优雅地管理了话语。6.5或7.0版本很可能会用一个更平淡的连接词来引出这个想法。它展示了考官在最高分数段所奖励的那种灵活的话题管理能力。
    • LRmake a genuine dent in the grocery billThis is a vivid, mildly idiomatic collocation that goes well beyond the plain 'saves money' a 6.5 answer would use. It shows precise, natural control of everyday spoken idiom rather than textbook vocabulary. This kind of phrase is a clear marker of the 'genuinely less-common word choice' expected at 7.5.这是一个生动、略带习语色彩的搭配,远远超出了6.5版本会用的朴素说法"saves money"。它展示了对日常习语精准、自然的掌控,而不是教科书式的词汇。这种短语正是7.5所期待的"真正少见的词汇选择"的一个明显标志。
    • GRAapartment dwellers in Da Nang, my neighbour among them, make do with the same arrangement squeezed onto a balconyThis sentence compresses two ideas — who does it, and a specific example — into one flowing structure using the appositive 'my neighbour among them' and the participial phrase 'squeezed onto a balcony', instead of two separate clauses. A 7.0 answer would likely split this into a full extra sentence. This compact, flexible grammar is characteristic of the top band.这句话用同位语"my neighbour among them"和分词短语"squeezed onto a balcony",把两个想法——谁在做这件事,以及一个具体的例子——压缩进了一个流畅的结构里,而不是用两个从句。7.0版本很可能会把这个想法拆成一个完整的额外句子。这种紧凑、灵活的语法正是最高分数段的一个标志。

The 6.5 answer opens with the plain listing phrase 'There are several benefits' and gives modest, direct reasons using simple connectors like 'and' and 'because'.6.5版本以朴素的列举短语"There are several benefits"开场,并用"and"和"because"这样简单的连接词给出了一些朴实、直接的理由。

There are several benefits. I keep a fern on my desk, and watering it makes me feel calm when I'm stressed with work. Plants make a room feel more alive and less empty, and they add a bit of humidity when the air conditioner is on. Looking after a plant is also good for people who live alone, because it gives them something to care for. And it's simply nice to watch something grow.

    好处有好几个。我桌上摆了一盆蕨类植物,工作压力大的时候,给它浇水能让我感觉平静下来。植物能让房间显得更有生气,不那么空荡荡的,开空调的时候还能增加一点湿度。照顾一盆植物对独居的人也很有好处,因为这给了他们一件可以照顾的事情。而且看着一样东西成长,本身就是件挺美好的事。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThere are several benefits. This is a plain, formulaic opener that simply announces the structure of the answer rather than engaging with the question directly. A 7.0 answer would more likely open with a personal reflection like 'Honestly, the measurable benefits are fairly modest'. It's clear and coherent, but organisationally very basic.这是一个公式化的、朴素的开场,只是宣布了回答的结构,而不是直接切入问题本身。7.0版本更可能用像"Honestly, the measurable benefits are fairly modest"这样的个人化反思来开场。这个开场清晰、连贯,但在组织上非常基础。
    • LRmakes me feel calmThis is a common, entirely safe adjective-verb combination that conveys the idea clearly but without any particular precision. A 7.5 answer would likely replace this with something more specific and idiomatic, like 'a small pause that actually helps'. It's accurate modest vocabulary typical of this band.这是一个常见、完全安全的形容词加动词搭配,能把意思清楚地传达出来,但没有任何特别的精准度。7.5版本很可能会用一个更具体、更地道的说法来替代,比如"a small pause that actually helps"。这是这个分数段典型的、准确但适度的词汇。
    • GRALooking after a plant is also good for people who live alone, because it gives them something to care for. This sentence uses a simple because-clause to link cause and effect, which is grammatically correct but structurally plain. A 7.0 answer would likely turn this into a conditional, such as 'if you live alone, caring for something living gives you...'. It shows accurate but unambitious sentence construction.这句话用一个简单的"because"从句把原因和结果连接起来,语法上是正确的,但结构上很朴素。7.0版本很可能会把这个想法变成一个条件句,比如"if you live alone, caring for something living gives you..."。它展示了准确但不够有野心的句子结构。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer adds a mild qualifying remark up front ('the measurable benefits are fairly modest') and closes with the natural hedge 'To be fair, it's a modest benefit, but a genuine one.'7.0版本一开始就加入了一个温和的限定语("the measurable benefits are fairly modest"),并以自然的缓冲语"To be fair, it's a modest benefit, but a genuine one."收尾。

Honestly, the measurable benefits are fairly modest — a plant or two won't purify the air the way some adverts claim — but the effects you actually feel are real. I keep a fern on my desk, and watering it has become the thing I do when I'm stuck on something, instead of reaching for my phone. Plants also make a room feel calmer and more lived-in, and if you live alone, caring for something living gives you a small sense of responsibility. To be fair, it's a modest benefit, but a genuine one.

    • FCTo be fair, it's a modest benefit, but a genuine one. This closing hedge shows the speaker weighing and qualifying their own claim rather than just stating it, which is a natural feature of reflective spoken English. A 6.5 answer would likely end more flatly, without this kind of self-correction. It signals the 'mild qualifying remark' this band is known for.这个结尾的缓冲语,展示了说话者在权衡、限定自己的论断,而不是单纯地陈述它,这是反思性口语英语的一个自然特征。6.5版本更可能以更平淡的方式收尾,不带这种自我修正。这正标志着这个分数段所特有的"温和的限定性评论"。
    • LRmore lived-inThis is a slightly less common, more evocative word choice than a plain option like 'nicer' or 'cosy', showing a bit more control of natural collocation. A 6.5 answer would likely settle for 'more alive', which is safer but flatter. It isn't as striking as a 7.5 phrase like 'inhabited rather than sterile', but it sits clearly above plain vocabulary.这是一个比一个朴素的选项比如"nicer"或"cosy"稍微更少见、更有画面感的词,展示了对自然搭配多一点的掌控。6.5版本很可能会满足于"more alive"这个更安全但更平淡的说法。它还没有7.5版本"inhabited rather than sterile"这样的短语那么有冲击力,但明显高于朴素的词汇。
    • GRAif you live alone, caring for something living gives you a small sense of responsibilityThis is a real conditional structure, which adds a layer of grammatical complexity beyond the simple because-clause a 6.5 answer would use for the same idea. It isn't as compressed as the semicolon-linked structures a 7.5 answer might produce, but it demonstrates controlled subordination. This is a good example of the 'one moderately complex sentence' expected at 7.0.这是一个真正的条件句结构,比6.5版本表达同样想法时用的简单"because"从句多了一层语法上的复杂度。它还没有7.5版本可能会用的分号连接结构那么压缩,但展示了受控的从属结构。这是这个分数段所期待的"一个中等复杂句子"的一个好例子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the compact idiomatic phrase 'an indoor plant doubles as a low-stakes first lesson in responsibility' and manages several points fluidly with the discourse marker 'Beyond that'.7.5版本用了紧凑、地道的短语"an indoor plant doubles as a low-stakes first lesson in responsibility",并用话语标记语"Beyond that"流畅地管理了好几个要点。

The measurable benefits are honestly pretty modest — a plant or two isn't going to purify a room the way adverts suggest — but the felt ones are real enough. I keep a fern on my desk, and watering it has become the thing I do when a design is stuck, instead of picking up my phone; it's a small pause that actually helps. Beyond that, plants make a room feel inhabited rather than sterile, they add welcome humidity in air-conditioned flats, and tending something living is quietly good for people who live on their own. For children, an indoor plant doubles as a low-stakes first lesson in responsibility. There's also, simply, the pleasure of watching something grow in a space where nothing else changes.

    • FCBeyond that,This discourse marker smoothly pivots the answer from the personal fern anecdote to a wider list of benefits, managing several distinct points within one coherent flow. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely just start a new sentence with 'Plants also...'. This kind of flexible signposting is typical of top-band coherence.这个话语标记语,平滑地把回答从个人的蕨类植物轶事,转向了更广泛的好处列表,在一个连贯的流程里管理了好几个不同的要点。6.5或7.0版本更可能只是用"Plants also..."开始一个新句子。这种灵活的路标提示,正是最高分数段连贯性的典型特征。
    • LRan indoor plant doubles as a low-stakes first lesson in responsibilityThe collocations 'doubles as' and 'low-stakes' are genuinely less common word choices that convey a precise, slightly witty idea in very few words. A 7.0 answer would likely need a longer, plainer sentence to say the same thing, such as 'it teaches children responsibility without much risk'. This compression and precision is a clear 7.5 marker.搭配"doubles as"和"low-stakes"是真正少见的用词,用极少的词就传达出一个精准、略带诙谐的想法。7.0版本很可能需要一个更长、更朴素的句子来表达同样的意思,比如"it teaches children responsibility without much risk"。这种压缩和精准正是7.5分数段的一个明显标志。
    • GRAwatering it has become the thing I do when a design is stuck, instead of picking up my phone; it's a small pause that actually helpsThis uses a semicolon to fuse two closely related ideas into one flexible unit rather than splitting them into separate sentences, which is a more advanced way of managing complex information. A 7.0 answer would likely present these as two plainer, separate sentences. This compact grammar is characteristic of the top band.这句话用一个分号,把两个紧密相关的想法融合成一个灵活的单元,而不是把它们拆成分开的句子,这是一种更高级的信息管理方式。7.0版本很可能会把这两个想法呈现为两个更朴素、分开的句子。这种紧凑的语法正是最高分数段的典型特征。

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion, 'Yes, I think all children should try it at least once,' followed by one plain example and simple supporting points.6.5版本给出了一个直接的观点,"Yes, I think all children should try it at least once,"后面跟着一个朴素的例子和简单的支撑要点。

Yes, I think all children should try it at least once. In my primary school, we each grew a bean in a plastic cup on the windowsill, and many of my classmates still remember it. Growing a plant teaches children patience and shows them where food actually comes from. It also helps them care more about nature. Not every child needs to love gardening, but everyone should try it once, and a simple cup and a bean is enough.

    是的,我觉得所有孩子至少都应该尝试一次。我上小学的时候,我们每个人都在窗台上的一个塑料杯里种过一颗豆子,我的很多同学到现在还记得这件事。种一株植物能教会孩子耐心,也能让他们明白食物到底是从哪里来的。这也能让他们更关心自然。并不是每个孩子都要爱上园艺,但每个人都应该试一次,而且一个杯子加一颗豆子就足够了。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCYes, I think all children should try it at least once. This is a direct, unhedged opinion statement placed right at the start, which is clear but leaves no room for nuance. A 7.0 answer would more likely soften this with 'I'd say yes, at least once', adding a layer of natural tentativeness. It's coherent and appropriate, but structurally the simplest possible opening.这是一句直接、不加任何缓冲的观点,放在开头,清晰但没有留出任何细致处理的空间。7.0版本更可能用"I'd say yes, at least once"来软化这个观点,加入一层自然的犹豫感。它连贯而恰当,但在结构上是最简单的开场方式。
    • LRcare more about natureThis is plain, general vocabulary that gets the point across without any specific imagery. A 7.5 answer would likely replace it with something more vivid, like 'a small attachment to the natural world that might blossom into real care later on'. The word choice here is accurate but entirely ordinary.这是一个把意思传达出来、却没有任何具体画面感的笼统词汇。7.5版本很可能会用一个更生动的表达来替代,比如"a small attachment to the natural world that might blossom into real care later on"。这里的词汇选择是准确的,但完全是普通的。
    • GRAGrowing a plant teaches children patience and shows them where food actually comes from. This sentence joins two ideas with a simple 'and', producing a compound predicate rather than any subordination. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely add a relative clause or dash to expand on one of these ideas instead of just listing them side by side. It's grammatically correct but structurally basic.这句话用"and"把两个想法连接起来,形成了一个并列谓语,而不是任何从属结构。7.0或7.5版本很可能会加入一个定语从句或者一个破折号来展开其中一个想法,而不是这样把它们简单地并列摆在一起。它语法正确,但结构上很基础。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens its opinion with 'I'd say yes' and adds the natural qualifying remark 'and to be fair that's fine' when conceding not every child will enjoy it.7.0版本用"I'd say yes"软化了自己的观点,并在承认不是每个孩子都会喜欢这件事的时候,加入了自然的限定语"and to be fair that's fine"。

I'd say yes, at least once, and honestly it doesn't need to be anything elaborate. Half my primary-school class still remembers the bean we each grew in a plastic cup on the windowsill, mainly because it was the first time something happened because of us rather than to us. Growing a plant teaches patience and cause and effect, and it shows children where food comes from, which city kids increasingly don't know. Not every child will end up loving it, and to be fair that's fine — the goal isn't to make farmers, just to make sure nobody grows up thinking tomatoes come from a shelf.

    • FCand honestly it doesn't need to be anything elaborateThis natural spoken aside, using 'honestly', shows the speaker adding a small personal reflection rather than just stating a bare opinion. A 6.5 answer would likely skip this and move straight to the example. It's a small but clear marker of the conversational fluency expected at 7.0.这个自然的口语插入语,用了"honestly",展示了说话者在加入一点个人化的反思,而不仅仅是陈述一个赤裸的观点。6.5版本很可能会跳过这一点,直接进入例子。它是7.0分数段所期待的那种对话流利度的一个清晰标志。
    • LRcause and effectThis is a moderately elevated fixed collocation, a step up from a plain phrase like 'what happens because of what', showing the speaker can name an abstract idea concisely. A 6.5 answer would likely avoid this term altogether in favour of simpler wording. It isn't as strikingly idiomatic as a 7.5 phrase, but it's clearly above the most basic vocabulary.这是一个适度提升的固定搭配,比一个朴素的短语比如"what happens because of what"更进一步,展示了说话者能简洁地为一个抽象想法命名。6.5版本很可能会完全避开这个术语,选择更简单的措辞。它没有7.5版本的短语那样惊艳地道,但明显高于最基础的词汇。
    • GRAsomething happened because of us rather than to usThis parallel contrastive structure, balancing 'because of us' against 'to us', is a more sophisticated way of expressing agency than a plain sentence would allow. A 6.5 answer would likely just say 'we did something ourselves' without this kind of built-in contrast. It shows controlled, moderately complex grammar typical of this band.这个平行的对比结构,把"because of us"和"to us"对立起来,是一种比朴素句子更精巧的方式,来表达能动性这个概念。6.5版本很可能只会说"we did something ourselves",没有这种内置的对比。它展示了这个分数段典型的、受控的中等复杂语法。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer closes with the compact evaluative touch 'A cup and a bean, frankly, is enough' and plays on the word 'plants' with 'might blossom into real care later on'.7.5版本以紧凑的评价性收尾语"A cup and a bean, frankly, is enough"结尾,并借"plants"和"blossom into real care later on"这两个词玩了个文字游戏。

Yes, at least once, and it needn't be anything elaborate. Half my primary-school class still remembers the bean we each grew in a plastic cup on the windowsill, simply because it was the first time something happened because of us, not to us. Growing a plant teaches patience, cause and effect, and where food actually comes from — knowledge that city children are increasingly missing out on. It also plants a small attachment to the natural world that might blossom into real care later on. Not every child will take to it, and that's fine; the point isn't to churn out farmers but to ensure nobody reaches adulthood believing tomatoes come from a shelf. A cup and a bean, frankly, is enough.

    • FCA cup and a bean, frankly, is enough. This short, compact closing sentence, with the parenthetical 'frankly' inserted mid-clause, delivers a confident evaluative punchline rather than just restating the position. A 7.0 answer would more likely close with a fuller, plainer sentence. This kind of compressed, flexible closing touch is typical of the top band.这个短小、紧凑的结尾句,在句子中间插入了一个括注式的"frankly",传递出一种自信的评价性点睛之笔,而不只是重复立场。7.0版本更可能用一个更完整、更平淡的句子来收尾。这种压缩、灵活的收尾方式正是最高分数段的典型特征。
    • LRplants a small attachment to the natural world that might blossom into real care later onThis sentence plays deliberately on the words 'plants' and 'blossom', a genuinely less-common and slightly witty piece of wordplay that a 6.5 or 7.0 answer would be unlikely to attempt. It shows a level of lexical control that goes beyond accuracy into style. This kind of idiomatic flourish is a clear 7.5 marker.这句话在"plants"和"blossom"这两个词上刻意玩了个文字游戏,这是一种真正少见、略带诙谐的文字技巧,6.5或7.0版本不太可能尝试。它展示出一种超越准确、进入风格层面的词汇掌控力。这种地道的点缀正是7.5分数段的一个明显标志。
    • GRAnobody reaches adulthood believing tomatoes come from a shelfThe participial phrase 'believing tomatoes come from a shelf' compresses what would otherwise need a relative clause like 'who believes that tomatoes come from a shelf' into a tighter, more fluent structure. A 7.0 answer would likely use the fuller relative-clause version instead. This compact grammar is characteristic of the top band.分词短语"believing tomatoes come from a shelf"把一个原本需要一个定语从句(比如"who believes that tomatoes come from a shelf")才能表达的意思,压缩成了一个更紧凑、更流畅的结构。7.0版本很可能会用更完整的定语从句版本。这种紧凑的语法正是最高分数段的典型特征。

The 6.5 answer lists reasons one by one with plain connectors, ending simply with 'And finally, people just enjoy eating something they grew themselves.'6.5版本一个一个地列出理由,用朴素的连接词,以"And finally, people just enjoy eating something they grew themselves."这样简单的一句话收尾。

One big reason is trust. My aunt stopped buying morning glory from the market after a pesticide scare, so now she grows it herself in a plastic tub. Cost is another reason, because growing your own food is cheaper for families with tight budgets. The taste is also better, since a fresh tomato tastes different from one that travelled for days. And finally, people just enjoy eating something they grew themselves.

    一个很重要的原因是信任。我姑姑在经历了一次农药恐慌事件之后,就再也不从市场买空心菜了,现在她自己在一个塑料桶里种。成本是另一个原因,因为对预算紧张的家庭来说,自己种食物更便宜。味道也更好,因为一个新鲜的番茄,和一个在路上颠簸了好几天的番茄,味道完全不一样。最后,人们就是单纯喜欢吃自己种出来的东西。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCAnd finally, people just enjoy eating something they grew themselves. This closing sentence uses the plainest possible list-ending connector, 'finally', to wrap up the answer. A 7.0 answer would more likely tie the reasons together with a phrase like 'everyone seems to mention the same thing', which shows synthesis rather than just listing. It's clear but structurally the most basic way to close.这个结尾句用了最朴素的列举收尾连接词"finally",来结束整段回答。7.0版本更可能用一个像"everyone seems to mention the same thing"这样的短语,把这些理由串联到一起,展示出综合归纳,而不只是罗列。它清晰,但是结尾方式上最基础的一种。
    • LROne big reason is trust. This uses the plain, common phrase 'big reason', which is accurate but entirely ordinary vocabulary. A 7.0 answer would more likely phrase this as 'the first reason is often trust', which sounds slightly more natural and considered. The word choice here is correct but unremarkable.这里用的是朴素、常见的短语"big reason",准确但完全是普通的词汇。7.0版本更可能会把这个表达成"the first reason is often trust",听起来会稍微更自然、更经过思考一些。这里的词汇选择是正确的,但并不出彩。
    • GRAMy aunt stopped buying morning glory from the market after a pesticide scare, so now she grows it herself in a plastic tub. This sentence links two events with the simple connector 'so', producing a straightforward cause-then-effect structure. A 7.0 answer would likely replace 'so' with a because-clause explaining her motive, adding a layer of reasoning rather than just sequence. It's accurate but grammatically the simplest option available.这句话用简单的连接词"so"把两个事件连接起来,形成了一个直白的因果结构。7.0版本很可能会把"so"换成一个"because"从句,解释她的动机,加入一层推理,而不只是先后顺序。这句话是准确的,但在语法上是最简单的选择。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens its claim with 'I'd say' and pulls its points together at the end with the reflective phrase 'Either way, everyone seems to mention the same thing.'7.0版本用"I'd say"软化了自己的观点,并在结尾用反思性的短语"Either way, everyone seems to mention the same thing."把各个要点归纳到了一起。

In Vietnam, I'd say the first reason is often trust. My aunt stopped buying morning glory from the market after a pesticide scare and now grows it herself in a plastic tub, because she wants to know exactly what's on it. Cost matters too, especially for families on tight budgets, and taste is a real factor, since a tomato picked that morning is honestly a different thing from one that's travelled three days. For older people, it's also continuity with a rural childhood, while for younger ones it's more of a hobby. Either way, everyone seems to mention the same thing: the satisfaction of eating something you grew yourself.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCEither way, everyone seems to mention the same thingThis phrase synthesises the separate reasons into one observation rather than just listing them, showing a more reflective, considered way of concluding. A 6.5 answer would more likely just add one more item to the list with 'finally' or 'also'. It demonstrates the natural cohesive wrap-up typical of this band.这个短语把分开的理由综合成了一个统一的观察,而不只是把它们罗列出来,展示出一种更反思性、更经过思考的收尾方式。6.5版本更可能只是用"finally"或"also"往列表上再加一项。它展示了这个分数段所特有的那种自然的衔接式收尾。
    • LRcontinuity with a rural childhoodThis is a moderately elevated collocation, more precise than a plain phrase like 'reminds them of when they were young'. A 6.5 answer would likely use simpler wording to express the same idea. It isn't as vivid as a 7.5 phrase, but it shows clearly above-basic vocabulary control.这是一个适度提升的搭配,比一个朴素的短语比如"reminds them of when they were young"更精准。6.5版本很可能会用更简单的措辞来表达同样的想法。它没有7.5版本的短语那样生动,但明显展示出超越基础水平的词汇掌控力。
    • GRAFor older people, it's also continuity with a rural childhood, while for younger ones it's more of a hobby. The 'while' clause here creates a contrastive link between two groups within a single sentence, which is more complex than simply stating each group's reason separately. A 6.5 answer would likely split this into two short, separate sentences instead. This is a good example of the 'one moderately complex sentence' expected at 7.0.这个"while"从句在一个句子内部,为两组人之间建立起了一种对比性的联系,这比单独分别陈述每组人的理由要复杂。6.5版本很可能会把这个拆成两个短小、独立的句子。这是这个分数段所期待的"一个中等复杂句子"的一个好例子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the vivid, idiomatic phrase 'a world apart from' and balances two groups in one semicolon-linked sentence for a more compact, sophisticated structure.7.5版本用了生动、地道的短语"a world apart from",并在同一个用分号连接的句子里,平衡地呈现了两组人。

In Vietnam the first reason is often trust. My aunt stopped buying morning glory from the market after a pesticide scare and now grows it in a plastic tub in her yard, simply because she wants to know exactly what's on it. Cost matters for families on tight budgets, and taste does too — a tomato picked that morning is a world apart from one that's travelled three days. For older people, it's continuity with a rural childhood; for younger ones, it's partly a hobby and partly a quiet protest against how far food has drifted from them. And then there's the satisfaction everyone mentions: eating something you grew is a pleasure wildly out of proportion to the size of the plant.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCAnd then there's the satisfaction everyone mentions:This phrase, followed by a colon, sets up the closing idea as a deliberate final flourish rather than just another item in a list. A 7.0 answer would likely use the flatter 'Either way, everyone seems to mention the same thing' without the colon's forward-pointing effect. It shows confident, flexible management of the closing move.这个短语后面跟着一个冒号,把结尾的这个想法塑造成了一次刻意的、点睛式的收尾,而不只是列表里的又一项。7.0版本更可能用更平淡的"Either way, everyone seems to mention the same thing",没有冒号那种向前指引的效果。它展示了对收尾这个动作自信、灵活的管理能力。
    • LRa world apart fromThis idiomatic collocation is far more vivid and precise than a plain comparison like 'different from', painting a stronger image of the contrast in taste. A 7.0 answer would more likely use the safer, plainer 'a different thing from'. This kind of natural idiom is a clear marker of the top band.这个习语化的搭配比一个朴素的对比,比如"different from"要生动、精准得多,为味道上的对比描绘出了一幅更强烈的画面。7.0版本更可能用更安全、更朴素的"a different thing from"。这种自然的习语正是最高分数段的一个明显标志。
    • GRAFor older people, it's continuity with a rural childhood; for younger ones, it's partly a hobby and partly a quiet protest against how far food has drifted from them. The semicolon here balances two parallel clauses about different groups within a single compact sentence, rather than splitting them with a plainer connector like 'while'. A 7.0 answer would likely use 'while' instead of this semicolon-based parallelism. This tighter, more flexible construction is characteristic of 7.5 grammar.这里的分号在一个紧凑的句子里,平衡地呈现了关于不同人群的两个平行从句,而不是像用"while"这样更平淡的连接词那样把它们拆开。7.0版本更可能用"while"来代替这种基于分号的平行结构。这种更紧凑、更灵活的构造正是7.5语法的典型特征。

No, I don't think so. My own windowsill is proof — I've tried to grow basil three times, and it died three times. Growing food needs light, space, water, and time, but most city flats don't have enough of these things. People who work long hours also find it hard to keep a plant alive. Herbs in a small pot are possible for most people, but growing enough food to actually eat is much harder for people living in cities.

    • FCNo, I don't think so.This is a short, direct position statement with no hedging or softening. A 7.0 answer would more likely open with 'Honestly, no' to add a touch of natural spoken tone. It's clear and appropriate, but the simplest possible way to state disagreement.这是一句没有任何缓冲或软化的短小、直接的立场陈述。7.0版本更可能以"Honestly, no"开场,加入一点自然的口语语气。它清晰恰当,但是表达不同意时最简单的方式。
    • LRMy own windowsill is proofThe word 'proof' here is plain and functional, stating the point directly without any vivid imagery. A 7.5 answer would likely turn this into something more memorable, like calling failed basil attempts 'funerals'. The vocabulary is accurate but entirely ordinary."Proof"这个词在这里用得朴素、纯功能性,直接陈述了观点,没有任何生动的画面感。7.5版本很可能会把这个变成更令人印象深刻的说法,比如把种罗勒失败的经历称为"funerals"。这里的词汇准确,但完全是普通的。
    • GRAI've tried to grow basil three times, and it died three times. This sentence repeats the structure 'three times... three times' joined by a simple 'and', which is a plain, slightly repetitive way to make the point. A 7.5 answer would likely compress this into a punchier phrase like 'three attempts at basil, three funerals'. It's grammatically correct but structurally basic.这句话用简单的"and"重复了"three times... three times"这个结构,这是一种朴素、略显重复的表达方式。7.5版本很可能会把这个压缩成一个更有力的短语,比如"three attempts at basil, three funerals"。它语法正确,但结构上很基础。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer hedges its final claim with 'I'd say' and 'at least not for the average city dweller', softening a flat conclusion into a more considered judgement.7.0版本用"I'd say"和"at least not for the average city dweller"这样的限定语,给最后的判断加了一层缓冲,把一个平铺直叙的结论软化成了一种更经过思考的判断。

Honestly, no, and my own north-facing windowsill is the evidence — three attempts at basil, three funerals. Growing food needs light, space, water, and time, and city flats are usually short of all four, so people who work long hours or travel a lot simply can't keep a plant alive. Knowledge matters as well; my neighbour makes her balcony jungle look effortless because she grew up doing it, while beginners like me tend to kill things for years. I'd say herbs in a pot are within most people's reach, but growing a meaningful amount of food isn't, at least not for the average city dweller.

    • FCI'd say herbs in a pot are within most people's reachThe hedge 'I'd say' frames this as a considered personal judgement rather than a flat fact, which is a natural feature of reflective spoken English. A 6.5 answer would more likely just state 'Herbs in a small pot are possible for most people' without this softening. It's a clear marker of the mild reflection expected at 7.0.这个缓冲语"I'd say"把这句话框定成一种经过思考的个人判断,而不是一个平铺直叙的事实,这是反思性口语英语的一个自然特征。6.5版本更可能只是平铺直叙地陈述"Herbs in a small pot are possible for most people",没有这种软化。这是这个分数段所期待的"温和反思"的一个明显标志。
    • LRthree attempts at basil, three funeralsThis mildly idiomatic, humorous metaphor, calling dead plants 'funerals', is more vivid than a plain statement like 'it died three times'. A 6.5 answer would likely stick to the literal, plainer wording. It shows a moderately elevated, natural turn of phrase typical of this band.这个略带习语色彩、诙谐的比喻,把死掉的植物称为"funerals",比一句朴素的陈述比如"it died three times"更生动。6.5版本很可能会坚持用更直白的措辞。它展示了这个分数段所特有的适度提升、自然的说法。
    • GRAKnowledge matters as well; my neighbour makes her balcony jungle look effortless because she grew up doing it, while beginners like me tend to kill things for years. This sentence uses a semicolon followed by a 'while' clause to link two contrasting ideas about knowledge in one flowing unit. A 6.5 answer would more likely present these as two separate, plainer sentences. This is a good example of the moderately complex sentence structure expected at 7.0.这句话用一个分号加一个"while"从句,把两个关于知识的对比想法连接进了一个流畅的单元里。6.5版本更可能把这两个想法呈现为两个更朴素、分开的句子。这是这个分数段所期待的中等复杂句子结构的一个好例子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer closes with a compact tricolon, 'easy for some, possible for many, and realistic as an actual food supply for very few', and uses inverted grammar with 'as is a bucket of chillies'.7.5版本以一个紧凑的三项排比("easy for some, possible for many, and realistic as an actual food supply for very few")收尾,并用了"as is a bucket of chillies"这样的倒装语法。

No, and my own north-facing windowsill is the evidence — three attempts at basil, three funerals. Growing food demands light, space, water, and time, and city flats are chronically short of all four. People who work long hours or travel simply can't keep a plant alive, let alone a vegetable patch. Knowledge counts for just as much; my neighbour makes her balcony jungle look effortless because she grew up doing it, while beginners kill things for years before they get the knack. Herbs in a pot are within most people's reach, as is a bucket of chillies, but a meaningful amount of food isn't, not for the majority of urban dwellers. It's easy for some, possible for many, and realistic as an actual food supply for very few.

    • FCIt's easy for some, possible for many, and realistic as an actual food supply for very few. This closing tricolon compresses the whole answer's argument into one balanced, rhythmic sentence rather than a plain restated conclusion. A 7.0 answer would more likely end with a flatter sentence like 'at least not for the average city dweller'. This kind of compact evaluative closing is a hallmark of the top band.这个结尾的三项排比,把整个回答的论点浓缩进了一个平衡、有节奏感的句子里,而不是一个平淡的重复性结论。7.0版本更可能用一个更平淡的句子来结尾,比如"at least not for the average city dweller"。这种紧凑、带评价性的收尾正是最高分数段的一个标志。
    • LRcity flats are chronically short of all fourThe collocation 'chronically short of' is a genuinely less-common, more precise way of saying flats permanently lack these resources, going beyond a plain phrase like 'don't have enough'. A 7.0 answer would more likely use the simpler 'usually short of'. This is a clear example of elevated lexical choice.搭配"chronically short of"是一个真正更少见、更精准的说法,意思是公寓永久性地缺乏这些资源,超越了一个朴素的短语比如"don't have enough"。7.0版本更可能用更简单的"usually short of"。这清楚地展示了词汇选择上的一次提升。
    • GRAHerbs in a pot are within most people's reach, as is a bucket of chilliesThe inverted structure 'as is a bucket of chillies' uses subject-auxiliary inversion instead of a plainer 'and so is a bucket of chillies', giving the sentence a tighter, more literary rhythm. A 7.0 answer would be unlikely to attempt this inversion. This flexible, compressed grammar is characteristic of 7.5.这个倒装结构"as is a bucket of chillies",用了主谓倒装,而不是一个更平淡的"and so is a bucket of chillies",给了这句话一种更紧凑、更有文学韵律的感觉。7.0版本不太可能尝试这种倒装。这种灵活、压缩的语法正是7.5的典型特征。

I think a little more, but not a lot. In Da Nang, supermarkets now sell small grow-boxes for rooftops next to the vegetables, which shows people are interested. Worries about food safety and rising prices make people want to grow their own food, and new technology like automatic watering makes it easier. But cities are getting busier and more crowded, so most people won't have time or space. I think growing food will become a popular hobby, but most food will still come from farms.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI think a little more, but not a lot. This is a short, direct opinion statement placed right at the start, using the plainest possible framing. A 7.0 answer would more likely soften this with 'A bit more, I'd guess', which sounds more like natural reflection. It's clear and appropriate but structurally very basic.这是一个放在开头、用最朴素的框架表达出来的短小、直接的观点陈述。7.0版本更可能用"A bit more, I'd guess"来软化这句话,听起来更像自然的反思。它清晰恰当,但结构上非常基础。
    • LRwhich shows people are interestedThis is plain, general vocabulary that states the point without much precision. A 7.5 answer would likely replace it with something more specific, like 'which tells you there's a genuine appetite for the idea'. The word choice here is accurate but entirely ordinary.这是朴素、笼统的词汇,陈述了观点,但没有太多精准度。7.5版本很可能会用一个更具体的说法来替代,比如"which tells you there's a genuine appetite for the idea"。这里的词汇选择是正确的,但完全是普通的。
    • GRABut cities are getting busier and more crowded, so most people won't have time or space. This sentence links two simple clauses with 'so', producing a plain cause-then-effect chain. A 7.0 answer would more likely combine several such factors into one sentence using 'while' or 'plus'. It's grammatically correct but structurally the simplest option.这句话用"so"把两个简单从句连接起来,形成了一个朴素的因果链。7.0版本更可能用"while"或"plus"把好几个这样的因素合并进一个句子里。它语法正确,但是结构上最简单的选项。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer hedges with 'I'd guess' and pivots naturally with 'That said', a spoken connector that signals a balanced, considered view.7.0版本用"I'd guess"来缓冲,并用"That said"这样的口语连接词自然地转折,展示出一种权衡两方面的、经过思考的观点。

A bit more, I'd guess, but probably not as a serious share of what people actually eat. Da Nang supermarkets now sell rooftop grow-boxes right next to the vegetables, which honestly tells you there's already a market for the idea. Concerns about food safety and rising prices, plus the general wish to do something with your hands, will push some people toward it, especially as technology like automatic watering makes it easier. That said, cities are getting denser and people busier, while industrial farming keeps getting cheaper. So my guess is that growing food becomes a popular hobby rather than a real source of calories.

    • FCThat said, cities are getting denser and people busierThe connector 'That said' signals a natural pivot to a counter-argument, showing the speaker weighing both sides rather than just listing points. A 6.5 answer would more likely use the plainer 'But' in its place. This kind of natural spoken contrastive marker is typical of 7.0 fluency.连接词"That said"标志着一次自然的转折,转向一个反面论点,展示出说话者在权衡两方面,而不只是罗列要点。6.5版本更可能在同样的位置用更朴素的"But"。这种自然的口语对比标记语,正是7.0流利度的典型特征。
    • LRa real source of caloriesUsing 'calories' instead of the plain word 'food' shows a slightly more precise, considered word choice appropriate to a discussion of nutrition and supply. A 6.5 answer would more likely just repeat 'food' throughout. It's a modest but clear step up in lexical precision.用"calories"代替朴素的词"food",展示了一种更精准、更经过思考的词汇选择,适合关于营养和供应的讨论。6.5版本更可能全程都重复用"food"这个词。这是词汇精准度上一个适度但清晰的提升。
    • GRAConcerns about food safety and rising prices, plus the general wish to do something with your hands, will push some people toward it, especially as technology like automatic watering makes it easier. This long sentence embeds a 'plus' phrase and an 'especially as' clause inside a single main clause, layering several ideas together rather than listing them as separate sentences. A 6.5 answer would more likely break this into two or three shorter sentences. It shows the moderately complex grammar expected at this band.这个长句在一个主句里,嵌入了一个"plus"短语和一个"especially as"从句,把好几个想法层层叠加在一起,而不是拆成分开的句子。6.5版本更可能把这个拆成两三个短句。它展示了这个分数段所期待的中等复杂语法。

A bit more, I suspect, but not as a serious share of what people eat. Da Nang supermarkets now sell rooftop grow-boxes right next to the vegetables, which tells you there's a genuine appetite for the idea. Concerns about food safety, rising prices, and the general urge to do something with your hands will nudge people toward it, and technology like automatic watering only smooths the way. Working against that, though, cities are getting denser, people busier, and industrial farming keeps undercutting the price of doing it yourself. My best guess is that growing food settles into a popular hobby and a source of herbs and pride, while the actual calories keep coming from farms — probably even more so than now.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCWorking against that, though,This fronted clause pulls the counter-argument to the front of the sentence for emphasis, a more sophisticated cohesion device than a plain 'But' at the start of a sentence. A 7.0 answer would more likely use the flatter 'That said' in this position. It shows confident, flexible management of contrastive discourse.这个前置的从句把反面论点提到了句首,以求强调,这是一种比在句首简单用"But"更精巧的衔接手法。7.0版本更可能在这个位置用更平淡的"That said"。它展示了自信、灵活地管理对比性话语的能力。
    • LRindustrial farming keeps undercutting the price of doing it yourselfThe verb 'undercutting' is a genuinely less-common, business-flavoured collocation that precisely captures competitive pricing pressure. A 7.0 answer would more likely use the plainer 'keeps getting cheaper'. This is a clear example of elevated, natural lexical choice.动词"undercutting"是一个真正更少见、带有商业色彩的搭配,精准地捕捉到了价格竞争的压力。7.0版本更可能用更朴素的"keeps getting cheaper"。这清楚地展示了一种提升、自然的词汇选择。
    • GRAWorking against that, though, cities are getting denser, people busier, and industrial farming keeps undercutting the price of doing it yourself. This sentence drops the repeated verb in 'people busier' (instead of 'people are getting busier'), creating a compressed, elegant parallel list rather than repeating the full structure each time. A 7.0 answer would be unlikely to omit the verb this way. This kind of ellipsis is characteristic of flexible top-band grammar.这句话在"people busier"这里省略了重复的动词(而不是"people are getting busier"),制造出了一种紧凑、优雅的并列列表,而不是每次都重复完整结构。7.0版本不太可能这样省略动词。这种省略正是灵活的最高分数段语法的典型特征。

For most countries, I don't think it's realistic. Vietnam exports a lot of rice and coffee, but imports things like wheat, dairy, and beef, because our climate isn't good for growing everything. If a country tried to produce all its own food, it would be very expensive and some countries just couldn't do it, especially small ones. I think it's good to grow some basic food for safety, but trying to produce everything would make people poorer and hungrier.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCFor most countries, I don't think it's realistic. This opening sentence states the position plainly and directly with no hedging or added nuance. A 7.5 answer would more likely use a compact elliptical version like 'not remotely realistic', which sounds more confident and less like a rehearsed template. It's clear and appropriate but the simplest possible opener.这个开场句朴素而直接地陈述了立场,没有任何缓冲或额外的细致处理。7.5版本更可能用一个紧凑的省略式版本,比如"not remotely realistic",听起来更自信,也不像是背出来的模板。它清晰恰当,但是最简单的开场方式。
    • LRvery expensiveThis is plain, common vocabulary that gets the idea across without any vivid detail. A 7.5 answer would likely replace it with something more idiomatic, like 'paying handsomely for the privilege'. The word choice here is accurate but entirely ordinary.这是朴素、常见的词汇,能把意思传达出来,但没有任何生动的细节。7.5版本很可能会用一个更习语化的说法来替代,比如"paying handsomely for the privilege"。这里的词汇选择是正确的,但完全是普通的。
    • GRAIf a country tried to produce all its own food, it would be very expensive and some countries just couldn't do it, especially small ones. This is a basic conditional structure ('If... it would...') joined to a second clause with 'and', which is correct but the simplest hypothetical form available. A 7.0 answer would likely extend this conditional with a relative clause for more nuance. It shows accurate but unambitious grammar.这是一个基本的条件结构("If... it would..."),用"and"连接到了第二个从句,这是正确的,但却是可用的最简单的假设形式。7.0版本很可能会用一个定语从句来延伸这个条件句,加入更多细微差别。它展示了准确但不够有野心的语法。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer adds the reflective aside 'I'm not sure it's even desirable' and closes with the natural hedge 'to be fair', qualifying its own judgement.7.0版本加入了反思性的插入语"I'm not sure it's even desirable",并以自然的缓冲语"to be fair"收尾,限定了自己的判断。

Honestly, for most countries it's not realistic, and I'm not sure it's even desirable. Vietnam exports rice and coffee by the shipload but imports things like wheat, dairy, and beef, because our climate suits some crops and not others. If a country tried to be fully self-sufficient, it would mean eating only what grows locally and paying a lot more for it, which small or dry countries simply couldn't manage. That said, having some self-reliance in basics makes sense as a kind of insurance — the pandemic showed what happens when supply chains break down. But total self-sufficiency, to be fair, is more of a fantasy than a plan.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBut total self-sufficiency, to be fair, is more of a fantasy than a plan. The inserted hedge 'to be fair' shows the speaker qualifying a strong claim rather than just stating it outright, which is a natural feature of reflective spoken English. A 6.5 answer would more likely state this flatly as 'trying to produce everything would make people poorer'. It's a clear example of the mild qualifying remark expected at 7.0.插入语"to be fair"展示了说话者在限定一个强烈的论断,而不是单纯地把它说出来,这是反思性口语英语的一个自然特征。6.5版本更可能平铺直叙地表达为"trying to produce everything would make people poorer"。这是这个分数段所期待的"温和限定性评论"的一个明显例子。
    • LRexports rice and coffee by the shiploadThe phrase 'by the shipload' is a vivid, moderately elevated collocation that paints a stronger picture than a plain phrase like 'exports a lot of'. A 6.5 answer would more likely use the flatter wording. It shows natural, slightly idiomatic control of vocabulary typical of this band.短语"by the shipload"是一个生动、适度提升的搭配,比一个朴素的短语比如"exports a lot of"描绘出了更强的画面感。6.5版本更可能用更平淡的措辞。它展示了这个分数段典型的、自然、略带习语色彩的词汇掌控力。
    • GRAIf a country tried to be fully self-sufficient, it would mean eating only what grows locally and paying a lot more for it, which small or dry countries simply couldn't manage. This extends a basic conditional with an added relative clause, 'which small or dry countries simply couldn't manage', layering extra detail into a single sentence rather than starting a new one. A 6.5 answer would more likely stop at the plain conditional and add the extra detail as a separate sentence. This shows the moderately complex grammar expected at 7.0.这句话给一个基本的条件句扩展加上了一个定语从句"which small or dry countries simply couldn't manage",把额外的细节叠加进了同一个句子里,而不是另起一句。6.5版本更可能停在朴素的条件句那里,把额外的细节另起一句表达。这展示了7.0所期待的中等复杂语法。

For most countries, not remotely realistic, and not necessarily desirable either. Vietnam exports rice and coffee by the shipload and imports wheat, dairy, and beef, simply because our climate favours some crops and is hopeless for others — true self-sufficiency would mean eating only what grows here and paying handsomely for the privilege. Small or arid countries couldn't feed themselves at any price. Some self-reliance in staples makes sense as a form of insurance; the pandemic laid bare what happens when supply chains snap. But chasing total self-sufficiency is a fantasy that would leave everyone poorer and hungrier. A country should be able to weather a shock, not pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCFor most countries, not remotely realistic, and not necessarily desirable either. This opening drops the subject and verb ('it is') entirely, producing a compact fragment that sounds more confident and considered than a full plain sentence. A 6.5 answer would more likely write the full 'I don't think it's realistic'. This kind of elliptical opener is a hallmark of top-band fluency.这个开场完全省略了主语和动词(即"it is"),形成了一个紧凑的片段,听起来比一个完整的朴素句子更自信、更经过思考。6.5版本更可能写出完整的"I don't think it's realistic"。这种省略式的开场正是最高分数段流利度的一个标志。
    • LRpaying handsomely for the privilegeThe idiomatic collocation 'paying handsomely for the privilege' is a genuinely less-common, slightly ironic way of describing high cost, far more vivid than a plain phrase like 'paying a lot more'. A 7.0 answer would more likely use that simpler wording instead. This is a clear marker of top-band lexical control.习语化的搭配"paying handsomely for the privilege"是一个真正更少见、略带讽刺意味的说法来描述高昂的成本,比一个朴素的短语比如"paying a lot more"要生动得多。7.0版本更可能用那种更简单的措辞。这清楚地展示了最高分数段的词汇掌控力。
    • GRASome self-reliance in staples makes sense as a form of insurance; the pandemic laid bare what happens when supply chains snap. The semicolon here joins two independent clauses into one tightly linked unit without a connecting word, a more compact and literary structure than using 'because' or starting a new sentence. A 7.0 answer would more likely use the plainer 'the pandemic showed what happens...' as a separate sentence. This flexible, compressed grammar is characteristic of 7.5.这里的分号把两个独立从句连接成了一个紧密关联的整体,没有用连接词,这是一种比用"because"或者另起一句更紧凑、更具文学色彩的结构。7.0版本更可能用更平淡的"the pandemic showed what happens..."作为独立的一句。这种灵活、压缩的语法正是7.5的典型特征。

    • FCNo, not always. This is a short, direct position statement with no additional framing or reflection. A 7.0 answer would more likely open with 'Not always, and honestly my uncle's farm shows both sides of it', adding a personal reflective touch. It's clear and appropriate but the plainest possible opener.这是一句短小、直接的立场陈述,没有任何额外的铺垫或反思。7.0版本更可能用"Not always, and honestly my uncle's farm shows both sides of it"来开场,加入一点个人化的反思色彩。它清晰恰当,但是可能出现的最朴素的开场方式。
    • LRless tasty foodThis is plain, everyday vocabulary that states the idea simply. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely use a more precise word like 'flavour' instead of 'tasty'. The word choice here is accurate but entirely ordinary.这是朴素、日常的词汇,简单地陈述了这个想法。7.0或7.5版本更可能用一个更精准的词,比如"flavour"来代替"tasty"。这里的词汇选择是正确的,但完全是普通的。
    • GRANew seeds and fertilisers doubled his rice yields over twenty years, which meant his children could go to university. This sentence uses a simple relative clause with 'which' to add a consequence, a straightforward and correct but unambitious structure. A 7.5 answer would likely tighten this with 'which is precisely why', adding more emphasis and flow. It shows accurate but basic grammar.这句话用一个简单的以"which"引导的定语从句加入了一个结果,这是一个直接、正确、但不算有野心的结构。7.5版本很可能会用"which is precisely why"把这句话收得更紧,加入更强的力度和流畅感。它展示了准确但基础的语法。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer inserts the natural parenthetical hedge 'that's not really in doubt' mid-sentence, showing the speaker weighing certainty against nuance in real time.7.0版本在一个更长的句子中间插入了自然的括注式缓冲语"that's not really in doubt",展示出说话者在实时权衡确定性和细微差别。

Not always, and honestly my uncle's farm shows both sides of it in one place. New seed varieties and fertilisers roughly doubled his rice yields over twenty years, which is actually why his children went to university. Over those same years, though, the fish he used to catch in the field channels disappeared, because of the chemicals that produced those higher yields. I'd say technology has clearly fed a growing population and reduced hunger — that's not really in doubt — but it's also produced food with less flavour and soil that now depends on constant inputs. To be fair, a lot of today's technology is really just trying to fix problems the earlier technology created.

    • FCthat's not really in doubtThis parenthetical aside, dropped into the middle of a longer sentence, shows the speaker qualifying their own claim in real time rather than just stating it. A 6.5 answer would more likely leave this idea out or state it as a separate, plainer sentence. It's a clear marker of the natural spoken reflection expected at 7.0.这个插入在一个更长句子中间的括注式插入语,展示出说话者在实时限定自己的论断,而不只是把它说出来。6.5版本更可能省略这个想法,或者把它写成一个更平淡的独立句子。这是这个分数段所期待的自然口语反思的一个明显标志。
    • LRsoil that now depends on constant inputsThe collocation 'constant inputs' is a moderately elevated, more technical way of describing ongoing dependence on fertiliser, going beyond a plain phrase like 'soil that needs more chemicals'. A 6.5 answer would more likely use that simpler wording. It shows a clear step up in lexical precision.搭配"constant inputs"是一个适度提升、更专业一点的说法,用来描述对化肥的持续依赖,超越了一个朴素的短语比如"soil that needs more chemicals"。6.5版本更可能用更简单的措辞。它清楚地展示了词汇精准度上的一次提升。
    • GRAOver those same years, though, the fish he used to catch in the field channels disappeared, because of the chemicals that produced those higher yields. This sentence fronts the adverbial 'Over those same years, though' and embeds a relative clause at the end, layering two structural devices into one sentence. A 6.5 answer would more likely present the time reference and the cause as two separate, plainer sentences. This shows the moderately complex grammar expected at 7.0.这句话把状语"Over those same years, though"前置,并在结尾嵌入了一个定语从句,在一句话里叠加了两种结构手法。6.5版本更可能把时间参照和原因拆成两个更朴素的独立句子。这展示了7.0所期待的中等复杂语法。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens its closing thought with the sophisticated connector 'If anything' and uses a triple compressed verb structure, 'churned out... left... racked up', instead of three separate sentences.7.5版本用一个精巧的连接词"If anything"引出了结尾的思考,并用了一个三重压缩的动词结构"churned out... left... racked up",而不是三个分开的句子。

Not always, and my uncle's farm lays bare both sides of it in one place. New seed varieties and fertilisers roughly doubled his rice yields over twenty years, which is precisely why his children made it to university. Over those same years, though, the fish he grew up catching in the field channels vanished, a casualty of the very chemicals that produced those yields. Technology has undeniably fed a growing population and slashed hunger — that much isn't in doubt. But it has also churned out food with less flavour, left soil dependent on constant inputs, and racked up long-term costs nobody priced in at the time. If anything, today's best technology is mostly busy fixing problems the earlier technology created, which counts as progress of a sort.

    • FCIf anything, today's best technology is mostly busy fixing problems the earlier technology createdThe connector 'If anything' introduces a refined, slightly counterintuitive closing observation rather than a plain restatement. A 7.0 answer would more likely close with the flatter 'To be fair, a lot of today's technology is really just trying to fix problems'. This kind of sophisticated connector is a hallmark of top-band coherence.连接词"If anything"引出了一个精巧、略带出人意料的结尾观察,而不是一句平淡的重复。7.0版本更可能用更平淡的"To be fair, a lot of today's technology is really just trying to fix problems"来收尾。这种精巧的连接词正是最高分数段连贯性的一个标志。
    • LRa casualty of the very chemicals that produced those yieldsUsing 'casualty' metaphorically to describe the vanished fish is a genuinely less-common, vivid word choice that goes well beyond a plain phrase like 'disappeared because of the chemicals'. A 7.0 answer would more likely stick to that literal wording. This is a clear example of idiomatic, top-band vocabulary.用"casualty"这个词来比喻性地描述消失的鱼,是一个真正更少见、生动的词汇选择,远远超越了一个朴素的短语比如"disappeared because of the chemicals"。7.0版本更可能坚持用那种更字面化的措辞。这清楚地展示了最高分数段那种习语化的词汇。
    • GRABut it has also churned out food with less flavour, left soil dependent on constant inputs, and racked up long-term costs nobody priced in at the time. This sentence lists three distinct effects using three different verbs, 'churned out', 'left', and 'racked up', in a single parallel structure without repeating the subject each time. A 7.0 answer would more likely split these across two separate sentences. This compact, flexible parallelism is characteristic of 7.5 grammar.这句话用三个不同的动词,"churned out"、"left"、"racked up",在一个平行结构里列出三种不同的影响,而不需要每次都重复主语。7.0版本更可能把这些拆成两个分开的句子。这种紧凑、灵活的排比正是7.5语法的典型特征。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion, 'I don't think so, at least not in my country', supported by plain listed reasons joined with 'but', 'because', and 'and'.6.5版本给出了一个直接的观点,"I don't think so, at least not in my country,"用朴素的、通过"but"、"because"和"and"连接的理由罗列出来支撑。

I don't think so, at least not in my country. Vietnam's population isn't growing much now, but farms are still under pressure because salt water is moving into the rice fields as the sea rises, and young people are leaving farming. I think bigger problems are climate change, water shortages, and the fact that fewer young people want to be farmers — my uncle's neighbours are all older farmers. So feeding more people isn't really the hardest problem; feeding people while the planet changes is.

    我不这么认为,至少在我们国家不是。越南的人口现在增长得不多了,但农田依然承受着压力,因为随着海平面上升,咸水正在渗入稻田,而且年轻人也在离开农业。我觉得更大的问题是气候变化、水资源短缺,还有越来越少的年轻人愿意当农民——我叔叔那些邻居全都是年纪大的农民。所以说,养活更多人其实不是最难的问题;在一个不断变化的地球上养活人,才是真正的难题。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI don't think so, at least not in my country. This is a direct, plain position statement placed right at the start with minimal framing. A 7.0 answer would more likely open with 'Honestly, I don't think so', adding a natural spoken filler. It's clear and appropriate but structurally the simplest possible opener.这是一个放在开头的、几乎没有任何铺垫的直接、朴素的立场陈述。7.0版本更可能以"Honestly, I don't think so"开场,加入一个自然的口语填充语。它清晰恰当,但是可能出现的最简单的开场方式。
    • LRwater shortagesThis is plain, everyday vocabulary that names the problem directly without any added precision. A 7.0 answer would likely fold this into a longer list phrase like 'the sharper challenges are climate, water, and degraded soil'. The word choice here is accurate but entirely ordinary.这是朴素、日常的词汇,直接说出了问题,没有任何额外的精准度。7.0版本很可能会把这个融入一个更长的列表短语,比如"the sharper challenges are climate, water, and degraded soil"。这里的词汇选择是正确的,但完全是普通的。
    • GRAVietnam's population isn't growing much now, but farms are still under pressure because salt water is moving into the rice fields as the sea rises, and young people are leaving farming. This long sentence strings together clauses with 'but', 'because', and 'and', producing an additive but somewhat loosely coordinated structure. A 7.5 answer would more likely tighten this using a participial phrase like 'coupled with young people abandoning the land'. It's grammatically correct but structurally plain.这个长句用"but"、"because"和"and"把从句串联在一起,形成了一种叠加式、但连接得较为松散的结构。7.5版本更可能用一个分词短语,比如"coupled with young people abandoning the land",来收紧这个结构。它语法正确,但结构上很朴素。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer adds the reflective aside 'There's also the question of what people eat' before introducing a further point, showing genuine mid-answer consideration.7.0版本用短语"There's also the question of what people eat"引出了一个额外的观点,展示出真正在当场进行思考的痕迹。

Honestly, I don't think so, at least not where I live. Vietnam's population is barely growing now, and the real pressure on farms in the centre of the country comes from salt water creeping into the rice fields as the sea rises, plus young people leaving the land altogether. Globally, population probably matters in some regions, but I'd say the sharper challenges are climate, water, and degraded soil, along with the loss of farmers themselves — my uncle's neighbours, for instance, are all over sixty. There's also the question of what people eat, since a shift toward more meat strains farming far more than extra mouths do. Feeding more people is a solvable problem; feeding them with nobody left to farm is the harder one.

    • FCThere's also the question of what people eatThis phrase introduces an additional reflective point as though the speaker is genuinely thinking it through in the moment, rather than just adding another item to a rehearsed list. A 6.5 answer would more likely just add 'Also, people are eating more meat now' without this framing. It's a clear marker of the natural reflection expected at 7.0.这个短语像是说话者当场真正在思考出一个额外的观点,而不只是把它当作一份预先准备好的列表里的又一项来添加,展示了这种感觉。6.5版本更可能只是加一句"Also, people are eating more meat now",没有这种框架。它是7.0所期待的自然反思的一个明显标志。
    • LRa shift toward more meat strains farmingThe verb 'strains' is a moderately elevated collocation, more precise than a plain phrase like 'is bad for farming' or 'causes problems for farming'. A 6.5 answer would more likely use that simpler wording. It shows a clear step up in lexical precision typical of this band.动词"strains"是一个适度提升的搭配,比一个朴素的短语比如"is bad for farming"或者"causes problems for farming"更精准。6.5版本更可能用那种更简单的措辞。它清楚地展示了这个分数段典型的词汇精准度上的一次提升。
    • GRAFeeding more people is a solvable problem; feeding them with nobody left to farm is the harder one. This closing sentence uses a semicolon to balance two parallel clauses directly against each other, rather than joining them with a plainer word like 'but'. A 6.5 answer would more likely write this as two separate, plainer sentences. It shows the moderately complex, balanced grammar expected at 7.0.这个结尾句用一个分号,把两个平行的从句直接对立起来,而不是用一个更平淡的词比如"but"连接。6.5版本更可能把这个写成两个分开的、更朴素的句子。它展示了7.0所期待的那种中等复杂、平衡的语法。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer inserts the parenthetical 'to my mind' mid-sentence and uses the compact participial phrase 'coupled with young people abandoning the land altogether' instead of a full extra clause.7.5版本插入了括注式的"to my mind",并用了紧凑的分词短语"coupled with young people abandoning the land altogether",而不是用一整个额外的从句。

Feeding them on a changing planet with nobody left to farm it is the hard one.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCFeeding more people is, in the end, a solvable problem. The parenthetical insertion 'in the end' breaks up the main clause to add a considered, evaluative tone, functioning as a compact closing judgement rather than a plain statement. A 7.0 answer would more likely write this without the interruption, as a flatter sentence. This kind of flexible insertion is a hallmark of top-band coherence.插入语"in the end"打断了主句,加入了一种经过思考的评价性语气,起到了一个紧凑收尾判断的作用,而不是一句平淡的陈述。7.0版本更可能不加这个插入,写成一句更平淡的句子。这种灵活的插入正是最高分数段连贯性的一个标志。
    • LRcoupled with young people abandoning the land altogetherThe collocation 'coupled with' is a genuinely less-common, more formal way of linking two contributing factors than a plain 'and', giving the sentence a more polished, precise feel. A 7.0 answer would more likely just use 'plus young people leaving the land'. This is a clear example of elevated lexical choice.搭配"coupled with"是一个真正更少见、更正式的说法,用来连接两个共同起作用的因素,比一个朴素的"and"更进一步,让句子多了一种更精炼、更精准的感觉。7.0版本更可能只用"plus young people leaving the land"。这清楚地展示了词汇选择上的一次提升。
    • GRAthe sharper challenges, to my mind, are climate, water, degraded soil, and the loss of farmers themselvesThe parenthetical 'to my mind' is inserted directly into the middle of the main clause rather than placed at the start or end, which is a more flexible and natural way of marking opinion. A 7.0 answer would more likely place a similar hedge, like 'I'd say', at the front of the sentence instead. This mid-clause insertion is characteristic of the compact, flexible grammar expected at 7.5.插入语"to my mind"直接插在主句中间,而不是放在句首或句尾,这是一种更灵活、更自然地标记观点的方式。7.0版本更可能把一个类似的缓冲语,比如"I'd say",放在句子最前面。这种句中插入正是7.5所期待的紧凑、灵活语法的典型特征。
