The description relies on plain adjectives ('friendly and hardworking') and a short closing statement ('Now her shop does well'), with only single-clause subordination, keeping the language clear but simple.描述依赖平实的形容词(‘友好又勤劳’),并用一句简短的结尾陈述收尾(‘现在她的店生意不错’),只用了单层从属结构,语言清晰但简单。

The person I want to talk about is a woman called Phương. She owns a small coffee shop near my office building, close to the river.

I got to know her about two years ago. I walk past her shop every morning on my way to work, and one day I stopped to buy a coffee because it was raining hard. After that I started going almost every day, and we began chatting. Now she remembers my order without asking.

I don't know all the details about why she started the business, but she told me once that she used to work in a big company and felt very tired of sitting at a desk all day. She wanted something of her own, so she saved money for a few years and then rented a small space. It wasn't easy at first because there are many coffee shops in Da Nang, so she had to work very hard to get customers.

Now her shop does well. She sells coffee, tea and some simple cakes, and in the morning it's always full of office workers like me. I think she is successful because she is friendly and hardworking, and she never seems to get tired of talking to customers, even early in the morning.

  • FCNow her shop does well. This four-word sentence states the outcome and stops, without a connector back to the effort described in the previous paragraph or any elaboration on what "doing well" actually looks like. That bare, list-like closure is typical of Band 6.5 coherence — clear and on-topic, but a Band 7.0 answer in the same position would likely link it explicitly to the earlier struggle, e.g. "and after all that effort, her shop finally does well," turning two flat facts into one developed point.这句只有四个词的话陈述了结果就戛然而止,既没有连接词把它与前一段描述的努力联系起来,也没有对"doing well"具体是什么样子做任何阐述。这种赤裸、罗列式的收尾是Band 6.5连贯性的典型表现——清晰且切题,但同一位置的Band 7.0答案很可能会明确地把它与前面的艰辛联系起来,例如"and after all that effort, her shop finally does well",把两个平淡的事实变成一个得到充分展开的观点。
  • LRfriendly and hardworkingTwo of the most common personality adjectives in English are joined with a simple "and," giving an accurate but very general character description. A Band 7.0 answer would likely choose one more specific or collocational phrase instead (e.g. "she's got a real knack for making regulars feel welcome"), but at Band 6.5 the target is exactly this kind of plain, unambiguous vocabulary that a listener can process instantly, without any risk of misuse.英语中两个最常见的性格形容词被一个简单的"and"连接在一起,给出了一个准确却非常笼统的性格描述。Band 7.0的答案很可能会选用一个更具体或更具搭配性的说法(例如"she's got a real knack for making regulars feel welcome"),但在Band 6.5,目标恰恰就是这种平实、清楚明了、听者能够立即理解、毫无误用风险的词汇。
  • GRAI stopped to buy a coffee because it was raining hardThis sentence has exactly one subordinate clause, a "because" clause giving a simple reason, and no further layering on top of it — no relative clause, no second connector, no conditional. A Band 7.0 answer describing the same rainy morning would likely fold in an additional detail within the same sentence (e.g. "because it was raining hard, which is unusual for that time of year"), so the single, isolated "because" clause here marks the modest structural range Band 6.5 grammar is built around.这句话恰好只有一个从句——一个给出简单理由的"because"从句,上面没有再叠加其他任何层次——没有关系从句、没有第二个连接词、也没有条件句。描述同一个雨天早晨,Band 7.0的答案很可能会在同一句话中融入一个额外细节(例如"because it was raining hard, which is unusual for that time of year"),因此这里这个孤立单一的"because"从句标示出Band 6.5语法所围绕的那种朴实结构范围。

The paired reason 'partly for more plants and partly because she's just easy to talk to' and the embedded 'when' clause about the pandemic give the answer natural, accurate development without unusual vocabulary.成对出现的理由——“一部分是为了再买些植物,一部分也是因为跟她聊天特别自在”——以及嵌入其中的关于疫情的“when”从句,让回答自然、准确地展开,而不需要使用生僻词汇。

The person I'd talk about is a woman named Trâm, who runs a small plant shop not far from where I live in Da Nang.

I got to know her about three years ago, when I moved into my current apartment and wanted to buy a few plants to make the balcony look less empty. Her shop was the closest one, so I went in not really knowing anything, and she ended up spending almost half an hour explaining which plants would actually survive on a balcony that gets full sun all afternoon. I kept going back after that, partly for more plants and partly because she's just easy to talk to.

Why she started the business is actually a fairly ordinary story. She used to work in an office job she didn't particularly enjoy, and during the pandemic, when she had a lot of free time at home, she started growing plants just as a hobby to fill the days. Friends kept asking to buy cuttings from her, and eventually she realised there might be real demand for it, so she quit her job and rented a tiny space to sell from properly.

What the business does now has grown quite a bit since then. Besides selling plants and pots, she also runs small workshops on weekends teaching people how to care for indoor plants, which are apparently quite popular with young couples setting up their first apartment together.

I think she's successful because she genuinely cares whether a plant survives once it leaves her shop, not just whether it sells. She'll message customers weeks later to check how things are going, which most shops wouldn't bother doing, and I think that kind of attention is exactly why people keep coming back to her instead of buying online.

  • LRwhich plants would actually survive on a balcony that gets full sun all afternoonThe phrase stays entirely within everyday gardening vocabulary — "survive," "full sun," "balcony" — but combines them into a precise, practical detail that shows real specificity rather than a vague summary like "she gave me advice about plants." A Band 6.5 answer would likely settle for that vaguer version, while a Band 7.5 answer might reach for a more technical or idiomatic gardening term; this line demonstrates the Band 7.0 target of concrete, topic-specific phrasing built from ordinary words rather than unusual vocabulary.这个短语完全停留在日常园艺词汇的范围内——"survive"、"full sun"、"balcony"——但把它们组合成了一个精确、实用的细节,显示出真正的具体性,而不是像"she gave me advice about plants"这样笼统的概括。6.5分的答案很可能满足于那种更笼统的说法,而7.5分的答案则可能会去寻找更专业或更习语化的园艺术语;这一句体现了7.0分目标:用普通词汇构建出具体、话题相关的表达,而非依靠不常见的词汇。
  • FCI kept going back after that, partly for more plants and partly because she's just easy to talk to.The "partly... partly..." frame splits a single fact (that the speaker kept returning to the shop) into two distinct, weighted motivations instead of giving one flat reason. This layering of cause is a small but genuine piece of development — it shows the speaker thinking about why, not just what happened — which is the difference between the one-reason answers typical of Band 6.5 and the fuller, dual-reason development Band 7.0 Fluency and Coherence expects."partly... partly..."这一框架把一个单一的事实(说话人总是一再光顾那家店)拆分成两个各有分量、彼此不同的动机,而不是只给出一个平淡的理由。这种对原因的分层处理是一处虽小却真实的展开——它表明说话人在思考"为什么",而不只是"发生了什么"——这正是6.5分典型的单一理由答案,与7.0分流利度和连贯性所期望的更充分的双理由展开之间的区别所在。
  • GRAduring the pandemic, when she had a lot of free time at home, she started growing plants just as a hobby to fill the daysA "when" clause is embedded inside the main sentence, sitting between the time phrase "during the pandemic" and the main verb "she started," so the listener has to hold two pieces of context before reaching the main action. This embedding — rather than simply stringing two separate sentences together, as a Band 6.5 answer would ("It was during the pandemic. She had free time. She started growing plants.") — is exactly the comfortable, accurate complexity that defines Band 7.0 grammatical range.一个"when"从句被嵌入主句内部,夹在时间短语"during the pandemic"和主要动词"she started"之间,这使得听者需要在到达主要动作之前先记住两段语境信息。这种嵌入方式——而不是像6.5分答案那样简单地把两个独立句子串联起来("It was during the pandemic. She had free time. She started growing plants.")——正是定义7.0分语法范围的那种运用自如、准确的复杂度。
7.5 分

The compressed insight 'the reassurance is the product' and the embedded rhetorical question inside the main sentence show the idiomatic lexis and grammatical range that mark genuine Band 7.5.那句凝练的洞见“让人安心才是真正的产品”,以及嵌入主句内部的反问句,共同展现出真正Band 7.5水准的地道词汇与语法广度。

The person I'd describe is a woman called Hoa, who runs a motorbike-rental business here in Da Nang. I met her in my very first week in the city, when I needed a bike and walked into what was then a tiny shopfront near the beach with six motorbikes and a handwritten price list. She rented me a scooter, told me which streets flooded, and somehow remembered my name a month later when I came back. We've been friendly ever since, and I actually designed her booking website a couple of years ago.

She started the business about eight years ago, and the reason is quite specific. She'd been a receptionist at a mid-range hotel, and every day tourists asked her where to rent a bike, and every day she sent them to shops that overcharged them or gave them something unsafe. At some point she thought: I already know these customers, I know what they're afraid of, why am I sending them to someone else? So she borrowed money from her sister, bought six second-hand scooters, and opened next to the hotel that used to employ her.

What the business does now is a lot bigger. Three branches, a fleet of over a hundred bikes, helmets that actually fit, a booking app, and a WhatsApp line where she or her staff answer within minutes in three languages. She also does the thing nobody else did — she delivers the bike to your hotel and picks it up when you leave.

I think it's successful for one boring reason: she never stopped being a receptionist. She still treats every customer like a guest who's slightly nervous and far from home. The bikes are a commodity; the reassurance is the product, and she understood that before anyone else on that street did.

  • LRthe reassurance is the productThis compressed, abstract formulation is a genuinely sophisticated, idiomatic way of summarising a business insight, typical of Band 7.5 lexical resource.这种凝练、抽象的表述方式,是一种真正精致、地道的商业洞见总结方式,是Band 7.5词汇资源的典型特征。
  • FCI think it's successful for one boring reason: she never stopped being a receptionist. The colon construction sets up a deliberate anticlimax — promising 'one boring reason' and then delivering an insight about customer service rather than a dramatic secret — which is an evaluative, almost argumentative move rather than plain narration. This matches the Band 7.5 requirement for 'one clear reflective or evaluative point, not just description'; a lower-band answer would more likely just list facts about Hoa's business growth without this interpretive claim. The word 'boring' is also doing ironic work: it signals the speaker knows the explanation sounds unglamorous but is arguing it's actually the real, more interesting, reason for Hoa's success, which the following sentences then unpack.
  • GRAAt some point she thought: I already know these customers, I know what they're afraid of, why am I sending them to someone else?Embedded direct-thought clauses inside the main sentence, including a rhetorical question, show the wide range of mostly error-free complex grammar typical of Band 7.5.嵌入主句内部的直接思维从句,包括一个反问句,展现出Band 7.5典型的、范围广泛且几乎无错误的复杂语法。

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opening claim with several examples, using the plain connector 'too' once and simple vocabulary like 'a lot' and 'a long time'.6.5分的答案给出了一个直接的开头论断,配上几个例子,用了一次平实的连接词"too",以及像"a lot"和"a long time"这样的简单词汇。

My street has changed a lot in a year. A pet café opened where a hardware shop used to be, and two English centres appeared close to each other. There's also a new gym in a building that was empty for a long time. Coffee shops keep opening too - Da Nang seems to think it can never have enough. Near the beach, most new businesses are for tourists, like bike rental and small hostels. What surprises me is how many of these sell things people want rather than things they need, which shows incomes here have risen.

    为什么是这个分数

    • GRAA pet café opened where a hardware shop used to be, and two English centres appeared close to each other. Two ideas joined only with 'and', a basic coordination pattern. A band 7 answer would more likely present these as a compact list instead of two full clauses joined together.两个想法只用"and"连接,是一种基础的并列方式。7分段的答案更可能把它们呈现为一份紧凑的清单,而不是两个连在一起的完整分句。
    • LRkeep opening tooA plain, general verb phrase. A higher band answer would likely use a more vivid or specific word, such as 'multiplying', instead of the everyday 'keep opening'.这是一个平实、笼统的动词短语。高分段的答案更可能用一个更生动或更具体的词,比如"multiplying"(成倍增长),而不是日常的"keep opening"。
    • FCWhat surprises me is how many of these sell things people want rather than things they need, which shows incomes here have risen.A flat closing sentence stating the conclusion directly. A 7.5 answer would more likely phrase this same insight more compactly, using more precise vocabulary like 'wants' and 'needs' as nouns.这是一个平淡的结尾句,直接陈述了结论。7.5分的答案更可能用更紧凑的方式表达同样的见解,用更精确的名词"wants"和"needs"。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer upgrades 'keep opening' to the more vivid 'keep multiplying', and closes with the more precise noun pair 'wants rather than needs', showing sharper vocabulary than the plainer band 6.5 phrasing.7.0分的答案把"keep opening"升级为更生动的"keep multiplying",并以更精确的名词对"wants rather than needs"作结,比6.5分更平淡的措辞展现出更犀利的词汇运用。

My street has changed almost completely in a year. A pet café opened where a hardware shop used to be, two English-language centres appeared within a hundred metres of each other, and there's a new gym in a building that was empty for a decade. Coffee shops keep multiplying - Da Nang seems to believe it can never have enough. Around the beach it's mostly businesses aimed at tourists: bike rental, laundry, small hostels. 为什么是这个分数

    • LRCoffee shops keep multiplyingA more vivid, precise verb choice than the plainer 'keep opening too' phrasing used at band 6.5, capturing a faster, almost uncontrolled growth.这是一个比6.5分更平淡的"keep opening too"更生动、更精确的动词选择,捕捉到了一种更快、几乎不受控制的增长。
    • GRAtwo English-language centres appeared within a hundred metres of each other, and there's a new gym in a building that was empty for a decadeA list of examples is packed into one sentence using a colon-free comma structure, a more economical way of presenting three separate observations than the two-clause 'and' sentence used at band 6.5.一份例子清单通过不用冒号、只用逗号的结构被塞进了一句话里,比6.5分用"and"连接两个分句的句子,是更省字地呈现三个独立观察的方式。
    • FCwhich tells you incomes here have risen past the point of just getting byThe added phrase 'past the point of just getting by' extends the closing observation with a reflective detail, typical of band 7.0's mild elaboration beyond the flatter conclusion at band 6.5.新增的短语"past the point of just getting by"(超过了勉强维持生计的阶段)给结尾的观察增添了一层有思考深度的细节,是7.0分典型的适度展开,超越了6.5分更平淡的结论。

The 7.5 answer adds the extra observation about logistics depots and delivery hubs, using the vivid verb phrase 'sprung up', giving a fuller, more precise picture than the shorter band 7.0 list.7.5分的答案加入了关于物流仓库和配送中心的额外观察,用了生动的动词短语"sprung up"(纷纷冒出),比7.0分更短的清单呈现出更完整、更精确的画面。

    为什么是这个分数

    • LRlogistics depots and delivery hubs have sprung up to serve online shoppingThe vivid verb phrase 'sprung up' suggests rapid, almost organic growth, a more distinctive word choice than a plainer verb like 'opened' or 'appeared' used elsewhere in the answer.生动的动词短语"sprung up"暗示了一种快速、近乎有机的增长,比回答中其他地方使用的更平淡的动词"opened"或"appeared"是更具特色的用词。
    • GRAFurther out, logistics depots and delivery hubs have sprung up to serve online shopping.A fronted prepositional phrase, 'Further out', opens the sentence to signal a shift in geography before the main clause, a more flexible structure than simply adding another item to the earlier list.前置的介词短语"Further out"(再往外一点)开启了这句话,在主句之前先示意地理位置的转移,比单纯在原有清单上再加一项是更灵活的结构。
    • FCwhich tells you incomes here have risen past the point of just getting byThe closing reflection is reused but now follows a fuller set of examples, giving the conclusion more evidence to stand on and a more complete, deliberate shape than the shorter band 7.0 version.结尾的思考被重复使用,但现在跟在一组更完整的例子后面,让结论有了更多证据支撑,呈现出比7.0分更短的版本更完整、更有意为之的形态。

Starting is the easy part. A designer friend of mine registered her studio in about a week, since the paperwork in Vietnam is fairly simple now, but then spent six months finding her first real client, which is the part nobody warns you about. Money is the first problem, since most people start with family money because banks won't lend to an idea. 为什么是这个分数

    • GRAA designer friend of mine registered her studio in about a week, since the paperwork in Vietnam is fairly simple now, but then spent six months finding her first real client, which is the part nobody warns you about.A long sentence built from 'since', 'but' and 'which' clauses stacked together, a fairly basic way of packing in the whole anecdote. A band 7 answer would more likely split this into two tighter sentences.这是一个由"since"、"but"和"which"从句叠加在一起构建的长句,是把整个轶事塞进去的一种相当基础的方式。7分段的答案更可能把它拆成两个更紧凑的句子。
    • LRMoney is the first problemA plain, general phrase. A higher band answer would likely use a more specific or vivid word, such as 'hurdle', instead of the everyday 'problem'.这是一个平实、笼统的短语。高分段的答案更可能用一个更具体或更生动的词,比如"hurdle"(障碍),而不是日常的"problem"。
    • FCThe personal cost is also high, since there's no salary and your savings disappear month by month.A flat closing sentence stating the point directly with 'since'. The 7.5 answer sharpens 'several people' to the more vivid 'ten people', and adds the compact closing metaphor 'easy to open a door and hard to get anyone to walk through it', giving a more finished, deliberate ending than band 7.0.7.5分的答案把"several people"锐化为更生动的"ten people",并加上了简洁的结尾比喻"easy to open a door and hard to get anyone to walk through it"(打开门容易,让人走进来难),比7.0分呈现出更完整、更有意为之的结尾。

Starting is the easy half. A designer friend of mine registered her studio in about a week - the paperwork in Vietnam has become fairly straightforward - and then spent six months finding her first real client, which is the half nobody warns you about. Capital is the first hurdle; most people start with family money because banks won't lend to an idea. Then there's the sheer number of competitors: whatever you're doing, ten people nearby are doing it too. And the personal cost is high - no salary, no weekends, and your savings disappearing month by month. So it's easy to open a door and hard to get anyone to walk through it.

    • LRten people nearby are doing it tooThe specific number 'ten' is a more vivid, concrete exaggeration than the vaguer 'several people' phrasing used at band 7.0, giving the point a sharper, more memorable edge.具体数字"ten"是一种比7.0分更模糊的"several people"更生动、更具体的夸张手法,让这一点更犀利、更令人印象深刻。
    • GRASo it's easy to open a door and hard to get anyone to walk through it.A single extended metaphor closes the answer in one balanced clause instead of stopping at the last list of consequences, a more compact and deliberate final construction than the ending at band 7.0.一个延伸的比喻用一个对称的分句结束了整个回答,而不是停在最后一份后果清单上,比7.0分的结尾是更紧凑、更有意为之的收尾结构。
    • FCSo it's easy to open a door and hard to get anyone to walk through itThe image of a door replacing the literal 'starting...surviving' contrast used earlier gives the closing line a more vivid, memorable finish, characteristic of band 7.5's small evaluative flourishes.用门的形象取代了前面直白的"starting...surviving"对比,给结尾句带来了更生动、更令人难忘的收尾,是7.5分小评价性修饰的特征。

    为什么是这个分数

    • GRAA bakery opened near my office selling pricey croissants on a street of office workers who just wanted cheap bánh mì, and it closed after five months.A long sentence built from a participial phrase and a final 'and' clause, a fairly basic way of packing in the whole example. A band 7 answer would more likely split this into a shorter, punchier structure.这是一个由分词短语和一个结尾"and"分句构建的长句,是把整个例子塞进去的一种相当基础的方式。7分段的答案更可能把它拆成一个更短、更有力的结构。
    • LRcome up a lot tooA plain, general phrase. A higher band answer would likely use a more specific or formal word, such as 'come up constantly', instead of the vaguer 'come up a lot'.这是一个平实、笼统的短语。高分段的答案更可能用一个更具体或更正式的词,比如"come up constantly"(不断出现),而不是更模糊的"come up a lot"。
    • FCMany businesses even fail from early success, when a bigger shop and higher rent can't be covered by a normal month.A flat closing sentence stating the idea directly. A 7.5 answer would more likely trace this cause-and-effect chain in a punchier, more compressed sequence of short clauses.这是一个平淡的结尾句,直接陈述了这个想法。7.5分的答案更可能用一串更有力、更压缩的短分句来梳理这条因果链。
    7.0 分

    • LRall come up constantlyA more precise, formal collocation than the plainer 'come up a lot too' phrasing used at band 6.5, giving the claim a slightly sharper, more confident register.这是一个比6.5分更平淡的"come up a lot too"更精确、更正式的搭配,让这个论断的语域略微更犀利、更自信。
    • FCRunning out of money before customers arrive is the most common cause; people underestimate how long the quiet period lasts.A semicolon links the claim to its explanation smoothly within one sentence, a more sophisticated structure than the separate 'since' clause a band 6.5 answer used for the same idea.分号在一句话里把论断和它的解释顺畅地连接起来,比6.5分对同样想法使用的独立"since"从句是更精巧的结构。

For most small businesses, yes - Hoa's shop proves it, spending almost nothing on advertising in eight years while it keeps growing through word of mouth at the hostel. A recommendation from a happy customer is trusted in a way no advert can really buy. But it has a limit: it's slow, it only reaches the friends of existing customers, and it doesn't work for something nobody has tried. A new product still needs to announce itself. So satisfied customers are the best advertising for keeping a business alive, and paid advertising sometimes gets it started.

    • GRAHoa's shop proves it, spending almost nothing on advertising in eight years while it keeps growing through word of mouth at the hostel.A participial phrase ('spending...') attached after a dash, a fairly basic way of packing in the whole example. A band 7 answer would more likely tighten this into a shorter, punchier structure.一个分词短语("spending...")跟在破折号之后,是把整个例子塞进去的一种相当基础的方式。7分段的答案更可能把它收紧成一个更短、更有力的结构。
    • LRno advert can really buyA plain, general phrase. A higher band answer would likely use a more precise or idiomatic word to describe the special credibility of a personal recommendation.这是一个平实、笼统的短语。高分段的答案更可能用一个更精确或更地道的词来描述个人推荐所带来的那种特殊可信度。
    • FCSo satisfied customers are the best advertising for keeping a business alive, and paid advertising sometimes gets it started.A flat closing sentence stating the distinction directly with 'and'. A 7.5 answer would more likely phrase this same contrast more compactly, with a sharper final warning not to confuse the two.这是一个平淡的结尾句,用"and"直接陈述了这个区分。7.5分的答案更可能更紧凑地表达同样的对比,并加上一个更犀利的结尾警告,提醒不要把这两者搞混。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer upgrades 'no advert can really buy' to the more precise 'no advert can buy', and closes with the more vivid contrast 'get it born', showing sharper, more deliberate vocabulary than band 6.5.7.0分的答案把"no advert can really buy"升级为更精确的"no advert can buy",并以更生动的对比"get it born"(让它诞生)结尾,比6.5分展现出更犀利、更有意为之的词汇。

For most small businesses, yes, and Hoa's shop is the proof - she's spent almost nothing on advertising in eight years, and grows because every tourist tells the next one at the hostel. A recommendation from a satisfied person is trusted in a way no advert can buy. But it has a limit: it's slow, it only reaches the friends of existing customers, and it doesn't work for something nobody has tried yet. A new product still needs to announce itself. So satisfied customers are the best advertising for keeping a business alive, and paid advertising is sometimes the only way to get it born.

    为什么是这个分数

    • LRtrusted in a way no advert can buyThe tighter phrase 'no advert can buy' is more precise and idiomatic than the padded 'no advert can really buy' used at band 6.5, removing the unnecessary intensifier.更紧凑的短语"no advert can buy"比6.5分带有多余成分的"no advert can really buy"更精确、更地道,去掉了不必要的加强语气词。
    • GRABut it has a limit: it's slow, it only reaches the friends of existing customers, and it doesn't work for something nobody has tried yet.A colon introduces a compact list of three limitations directly, a more economical structure than the fuller 'since' clause a band 6.5 answer used to introduce the same list.冒号直接引出了一份简洁的三项局限清单,比6.5分用来引出同一份清单的更完整的"since"从句是更省字的结构。
    • FCpaid advertising is sometimes the only way to get it bornThe verb 'born' extends the earlier idea of a business being 'kept alive', creating a small consistent metaphor across the sentence, a more deliberate, polished touch than the plainer 'get it started' phrasing at band 6.5.动词"born"延伸了前面"kept alive"这个想法,在整句话里营造出一个小而连贯的比喻,比6.5分更平淡的"get it started"是更有意为之、更精致的处理。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer adds the short final sentence 'The trick is not to confuse the two', a compact closing warning that gives the whole answer a more deliberate, aphoristic finish than band 7.0's ending.7.5分的答案加上了简短的最后一句"The trick is not to confuse the two",这个简洁的结尾警告,比7.0分的结尾赋予了整个回答更有意为之、更格言式的收尾。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe trick is not to confuse the two.A short, standalone final sentence adds a warning that reframes the whole answer, a more deliberate, aphoristic close than simply stopping at the last point, as band 7.0 does.一句简短、独立的结尾句加上了一个警告,重新框定了整个回答,比7.0分那样单纯停在最后一点上,是更有意为之、更格言式的收尾。
    • LRget it bornThe consistent metaphor of a business being 'born' rather than simply 'started' is carried through from the earlier idea of keeping it 'alive', a more distinctive, unified image than a plainer alternative would give.把生意说成"born"(诞生)而不只是"started"(启动)这个一贯的比喻,是从前面"alive"(存活)这个想法延续下来的,比一个更平淡的替代说法呈现出更有特色、更统一的形象。
    • GRASo I'd say satisfied customers are the best advertising for keeping a business alive, and paid advertising is sometimes the only way to get it born. The inserted hedge 'I'd say' softens the closing claim slightly before the final warning sentence, giving the whole ending a more considered, two-part shape than the single flat conclusion at band 7.0.插入的缓和语"I'd say"在最后的警告句之前稍微软化了这个结尾论断,让整个结尾呈现出比7.0分单一、平淡的结论更有斟酌感的两段式结构。

Not to anyone, since that would fund plenty of bad ideas and a few fraudsters. There was a start-up grant scheme in Da Nang a few years ago, and the money mostly went to connected people who could fill in a long form, not to someone with a good idea but no paperwork patience. Governments should make starting a business cheap and simple: easy registration, low taxes, cheap loans for businesses with real customers. Support for groups banks usually ignore also makes sense. But giving money to everyone removes the real test: whether anybody will pay for what you're selling.

    为什么是这个分数

    • GRAThere was a start-up grant scheme in Da Nang a few years ago, and the money mostly went to connected people who could fill in a long form, not to someone with a good idea but no paperwork patience.A long sentence built from 'and' and 'not to' clauses stacked together, a fairly basic way of packing in the whole example. • LRfill in a long formA plain, general phrase. A higher band answer would likely use a more specific or vivid detail, such as naming the length of the form, to make the same point more memorably.这是一个平实、笼统的短语。高分段的答案更可能用一个更具体或更生动的细节,比如具体说出表格有多长,来更令人难忘地表达同样的观点。

    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer sharpens the vague 'a long form' into the vivid, specific 'a forty-page form', and names a concrete example ('the woman with six motorbikes'), giving a sharper, more memorable contrast than band 6.5.7.0分的答案把模糊的"a long form"锐化成生动、具体的"a forty-page form",并点出了一个具体的例子("the woman with six motorbikes"),比6.5分呈现出更犀利、更令人难忘的对比。

    为什么是这个分数

    • LRcould fill in a forty-page formThe specific detail 'forty-page' is far more vivid and concrete than the vaguer 'a long form' phrasing used at band 6.5, making the bureaucratic barrier tangible.具体的细节"forty-page"比6.5分更模糊的"a long form"生动、具体得多,让这道官僚障碍变得可以感知。
    • GRAnot to the woman with six motorbikes and a good ideaA concrete, specific noun phrase replaces the vaguer 'someone with a good idea but no paperwork skills' construction at band 6.5, a more compact and memorable way of naming the excluded applicant.一个具体、明确的名词短语取代了6.5分更模糊的"someone with a good idea but no paperwork skills"结构,是一种更紧凑、更令人难忘地指出那个被排除在外的申请人的方式。

Governments would do better making starting cheap and simple: easy registration, low early taxes, cheap loans for businesses that can already show real customers. Targeted support for groups the banks overlook makes sense too. But handing money to anyone who asks quietly removes the one test that actually matters - whether anybody will pay for what you're selling.

But a company that pays fair wages, treats suppliers decently, and doesn't pollute helps society every day, in a way one yearly charity cheque doesn't. Suspicious cases give generously while paying their own staff too little. So more profit should go to society, but mainly through the business itself first.

    为什么是这个分数

    • GRAA coffee chain in Da Nang funded a school library last year and earned more genuine loyalty than any advert would have - so it's often in their own interest too.A long sentence built from 'and' and dash-led clauses stacked together, a fairly direct way of packing in the whole example. But a company that pays fair wages, treats suppliers decently and doesn't pollute is helping society every single day, in a way that a charity cheque once a year doesn't. The suspicious cases are firms that give generously while underpaying staff. So yes, more profit should flow to society, but through the business itself first, and through donations second.

    • GRASo yes, more profit should flow to society, but through the business itself first, and through donations second.A parallel 'through X first, and through Y second' structure closes the sentence, a more developed and balanced construction than the shorter closing sentence a band 6.5 answer used for the same conclusion.一个对称的"through X first, and through Y second"结构结束了这句话,比6.5分对同样结论使用的更短的结尾句是更成熟、更平衡的结构。
    • FCit earned them more genuine loyalty than any advert - so it's often in their own interestThe dash-led aside 'so it's often in their own interest' adds a reflective observation about self-interest, a small elaborative touch typical of band 7.0 that a band 6.5 answer states more bluntly.破折号引导的插入语"so it's often in their own interest"增添了一层关于自身利益的思考性观察,是7.0分典型的一点展开修饰,而6.5分的答案陈述得更直白。

    为什么是这个分数

    • GRAearned itself more genuine loyalty than any advert could have bought - so the motive was never purely selflessAn unreal past conditional ('could have bought') replaces the simpler past tense used at band 7.0, adding a layer of speculative grammar to the same claim.一个非真实过去条件句("could have bought")取代了7.0分使用的更简单的过去时,给同样的论断增添了一层假设性的语法。
    • LRin a way one charity cheque a year never managesThe verb 'manages' personifies the charity cheque, treating it as an agent that fails at a task, a more vivid, distinctive choice than the plainer 'doesn't' used in the equivalent clause at band 7.0.动词"manages"把慈善支票拟人化了,把它当作一个没能完成任务的主体,比7.0分对应分句中更平淡的"doesn't"是更生动、更有特色的选择。

    • GRAThat's how it will happen for most businesses: clean choices becoming the profitable ones.A colon introduces a compact noun-phrase explanation directly, a more economical structure than the fuller 'the clean choice slowly becoming' sentence used at band 6.5 for the same idea.冒号直接引出了一个简洁的名词短语解释,比6.5分对同样想法使用的更完整的"the clean choice slowly becoming"句子是更省字的结构。
    • FCSo it's possible for most, likely for many, and certain for none unless someone changes the prices. The final clause names an agent, 'someone changes the prices', rather than the passive 'unless prices change' used at band 6.5, giving the closing point a slightly sharper, more active edge.最后的分句点出了一个主体,"someone changes the prices",而不是6.5分使用的被动语态"unless prices change",给结尾这一点带来了略微更犀利、更主动的锋芒。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer fronts the concession with 'not from any sense of virtue' and closes with the colon-led 'So: possible for most...', a more compressed, rhetorically pointed structure than band 7.0's fuller equivalent sentences.7.5分的答案把让步状语“not from any sense of virtue”前置,并以冒号引导的“So: possible for most...”结尾,比7.0分更完整的对应句子是更凝练、更有修辞力度的结构。

Most, I think, but only once rules and infrastructure make the clean option the cheap one. Hoa is slowly converting her fleet to electric scooters, not from any sense of virtue but because they cost less to run now that charging points have finally sprung up around Da Nang. That's the likely pattern for most businesses: green choices turning profitable, not the other way round. Some industries genuinely can't follow, not with current technology - heavy shipping, cement, most of farming. And profit without damage ultimately depends on damage actually carrying a price tag, which only governments can attach. So: possible for most, likely for many, certain for none, unless somebody moves the prices.

    • GRAnot from any sense of virtue but because they cost less to run now that charging points have finally sprung up around Da NangThe fronted 'not from any sense of virtue' inverts the usual word order for emphasis, a more flexible, rhetorically pointed structure than the plainer 'not out of virtue, but because' clause used at band 7.0.前置的“not from any sense of virtue”为了强调而颠倒了通常的词序,比7.0分使用的更平淡的“not out of virtue, but because”分句是更灵活、更有修辞力度的结构。
    • LRgreen choices turning profitable, not the other way roundThe added tag 'not the other way round' sharpens the causal claim beyond the plainer 'clean choices becoming the profitable ones' phrasing at band 7.0, ruling out the reverse explanation explicitly.附加的尾句“not the other way round”让这个因果论断比7.0分更平淡的“clean choices becoming the profitable ones”表达更犀利,明确排除了反向的解释。
    • FCSo: possible for most, likely for many, certain for none, unless somebody moves the prices.A colon replaces the connective 'it's' used at band 7.0, and the final clause names an agent, 'somebody moves the prices', giving the closing rhythm a tighter, more active finish.冒号取代了7.0分使用的连接词“it's”,而最后的分句点出了一个主体,“somebody moves the prices”,让结尾的节奏更紧凑、更主动。
