6.5 分

This answer stays clear and direct throughout, using plain vocabulary like 'nicer place to work' and simple because-clauses, which keeps it correct but unambitious — solid Band 6.5 without any stretch.这篇答案自始至终保持清晰直接,使用了像 'nicer place to work'(更宜人的工作场所)这样朴素的词汇,以及简单的 because 从句,虽然表达正确,但缺乏野心——是稳扎稳打的6.5分水平,没有任何突破。

The person I want to describe is Minh, a senior designer at the studio where I work in Da Nang. He has worked there for almost ten years, much longer than me, and he is the person everyone goes to when they have a problem.

What he does is help junior designers and new employees, including me when I first started. If someone is stuck on a design problem or doesn't understand what a client wants, Minh will stop his own work and sit with them until it's solved. He explains things patiently, even simple things he must have explained a hundred times before.

He helps people almost every day, honestly. In our open-plan office, I can usually see at least one person sitting next to his desk asking for advice, sometimes for ten minutes, sometimes for a whole hour.

I think Minh enjoys helping others because he remembers being a nervous junior designer himself once, and nobody helped him much back then. He told me once that he doesn't want new employees to feel as lost as he felt. Also, I think he simply likes solving problems, and helping someone else is just another kind of problem to solve. Whatever the reason, the whole office is a nicer place to work because of him.

  • FCWhat he does is help junior designers and new employees, including me when I first started."What he does is help junior designers and new employees, including me when I first started" answers the cue-card question directly through a plain "what he does is X" formula, with the personal detail ("including me") added but not developed into its own moment or example. That straightforward, question-answering structure is a typical Band 6.5 development move — direct and relevant, but not yet illustrated with a specific remembered instance.“What he does is help junior designers and new employees, including me when I first started”通过一个平实的“what he does is X”句式,直接回答了提示卡上的问题,加入了一个个人化的细节(“including me”),但没有把它展开成一个独立的场景或例子。这种直白的、直接回答问题的结构,是 Band 6.5 典型的展开方式——直接、切题,但还没有用一个被记住的具体实例来加以说明。
  • GRAHe explains things patiently, even simple things he must have explained a hundred times before."He explains things patiently, even simple things he must have explained a hundred times before" embeds a modal perfect ("must have explained") inside an appositive-like addition ("even simple things..."), a modest but correctly controlled complex sentence. It isn't combined with any further subordination, which keeps it within the Band 6.5 grammar range: accurate and reasonably ambitious for one sentence, but not layered the way a 7.0 answer would push it further.“He explains things patiently, even simple things he must have explained a hundred times before”在一个近似同位语的补充成分(“even simple things...”)内部嵌入了一个情态完成体结构(“must have explained”),是一个适度但被准确掌控的复杂句。它没有再结合任何进一步的从属结构,这使它停留在 Band 6.5 的语法范围内:对单个句子来说准确且颇具野心,但没有像 Band 7.0 答案那样再进一步分层推进。
  • LRnicer place to work"Nicer place to work" is a plain, high-frequency comparative adjective phrase used to sum up Minh's effect on the office, rather than a more precise or idiomatic alternative like "a genuinely better environment to work in" or "noticeably more welcoming". That reach for the simplest available phrase to close a fairly warm observation is characteristic Band 6.5 Lexical Resource.“Nicer place to work”是一个平实、高频的比较级形容词短语,用来概括 Minh 对办公室的影响,而不是选用更精确或更具习语色彩的替代表达,比如“a genuinely better environment to work in”或“noticeably more welcoming”。用手边最简单的短语来收束一个颇为温暖的观察,正是 Band 6.5 Lexical Resource 的典型特征。
7.0 分

The answer develops smoothly from description to reason using the natural collocation 'second nature' and a comfortable cause-and-result sentence, sounding fluent without reaching for anything unusual.这篇答案从描述自然过渡到原因,使用了地道的搭配 'second nature'(本能),并配合一个流畅的因果句,听起来自然流利,却并不刻意追求生僻的表达。

The person I'd like to talk about is my neighbour, Mrs Lan, who lives two doors down from me in our apartment block in Da Nang. She's probably in her fifties, and ever since I moved in about three years ago, she's been the one everyone turns to when something goes wrong.

What she does is help pretty much anyone who needs it. If a new family moves in and doesn't know where the market is, she'll walk them there herself. Last year, when my washing machine broke down right before Tet, she lent me hers and even helped me carry my laundry over, which I really appreciated at the time.

She helps people quite regularly, I'd say almost every week, because in a building like ours there's always something — a lost key, a sick pet, a parcel nobody's home to collect. She seems to know everyone's schedule better than they do themselves.

As for why she enjoys it, I think it comes from the fact that she used to work as a nurse before she retired, so looking after people is just second nature to her now. She once told me that sitting at home doing nothing made her feel a bit useless, and helping neighbours gives her something meaningful to do with her day. I also think she genuinely likes the connection it brings — she knows practically the whole building by name, which is rare these days when people barely greet each other in the lift. Honestly, our building would feel a lot less friendly without her.

  • FCshe's been the one everyone turns to when something goes wrongThe phrase "the one everyone turns to" is an evaluative summary of Mrs Lan's role in the building, stated as a settled fact via present perfect ("she's been") rather than describing a single incident. This generalizing claim, which the following paragraphs then support with specific examples (the washing machine, lost keys), is exactly the reason-then-example development the Band 7.0 fluency and coherence target rewards."the one everyone turns to"这个短语是对Lan在这栋楼里所扮演角色的一种评价性概括,通过现在完成时("she's been")表述为一个既成事实,而不是描述某一次具体事件。这一概括性论断在后面的段落中得到了具体例子的支持(洗衣机、丢钥匙),正是Band 7.0流利度与连贯性标准所奖励的"先给理由、再举例"的发展方式。
  • LRsecond nature to her now"Second nature" is an idiom-adjacent collocation meaning a skill or behaviour has become automatic through habit, more precise than a plain phrase like "very natural for her," and it's used here to link Mrs Lan's nursing background causally to her current helpfulness. This is a single well-placed piece of flexible vocabulary rather than a string of impressive phrases, matching the Band 7.0 descriptor's "few flexible or topic-specific" ceiling."Second nature"是一个近乎习语的搭配,意为某项技能或行为因习惯而变得自动化,比"very natural for her"这样简单的说法更精准,在这里被用来把Lan的护理背景与她如今乐于助人的性格之间建立因果联系。这是一个恰到好处、单独使用的灵活词汇,而不是一连串刻意堆砌的漂亮短语,契合Band 7.0标准"若干灵活或话题相关的"上限。
  • GRAI think it comes from the fact that she used to work as a nurse before she retired, so looking after people is just second nature to her nowA "the fact that" noun clause supplies the origin (her nursing career), and a following "so" clause draws the logical consequence (looking after people is automatic now) -- two linked layers of reasoning in one sentence, comfortably accurate without reaching for the more marked structures (cleft sentences, dash-inserted asides) that would mark Band 7.5. It efficiently turns a biographical detail into an explanation of character.一个以"the fact that"引导的名词性从句交代了缘由(她的护理生涯),紧接着一个"so"从句得出逻辑上的结果(如今照顾他人已成为一种本能)——两层推理被自然而准确地联结在一句话里,而没有伸展到会标志着Band 7.5的更显眼的结构(分裂句、破折号插入语)。它高效地把一个生平细节转化为对性格的解释。
  • FCwhich is rare these days when people barely greet each other in the liftThe relative clause "which is rare these days" makes an implicit comparison to the wider norm, and the added detail "people barely greet each other in the lift" grounds that generalization in a specific, relatable image of urban apartment life. This comparative, socially observant aside is more developed than a Band 6.5 answer's likely flat statement ("She is very friendly"), giving the answer a small moment of genuine social commentary.关系从句"which is rare these days"隐含地与更普遍的社会常态作比较,而补充细节"people barely greet each other in the lift"则把这一概括落实到一个具体、可引起共鸣的都市公寓生活场景中。这种带有比较性、社会观察意味的补充说明,比Band 6.5答案很可能给出的平淡陈述("She is very friendly")更为发展充分,给答案增添了一小段真正的社会评论。
7.5 分

The figurative closing line about being 'built out of nothing but a rag and a willingness to be interrupted' and the semicolon-linked contrast ('retirement took that away; the building gave it back') mark this as genuinely Band 7.5 language.结尾那句富有画面感的话——形容自己'不过是由一块抹布和随时愿意被打扰的心态所构成'——再加上用分号连接的对比('退休夺走了那种感觉;这栋楼又把它还了回来'),都标志着这确实是7.5分水准的语言。

The person I'd describe is Mr Tâm, who lives on the ground floor of my apartment building in Da Nang. He's a retired mechanic, somewhere in his late sixties, and he has appointed himself, without anyone asking, the person who helps everyone in the building with everything.

Mostly it's motorbikes. If your bike won't start in the morning, you find him in the basement car park with a rag over his shoulder, and ten minutes later it starts. He won't take money — I've tried, and the closest he'll accept is a bag of fruit left outside his door. But it's not only bikes. He keeps a handwritten list of every elderly resident and which floor they're on, because the building floods most Octobers, and when the water comes he goes door to door with two young men from the fifth floor making sure nobody's stuck. He fixed the lift's call button once when management had ignored it for a month.

How often? Honestly, daily. I don't think there's a day he doesn't help somebody, and he's often in the car park before I leave for my morning run.

Why he enjoys it — and he clearly does, he whistles while he works — I've thought about quite a bit. His wife passed away a few years ago and his children are in Ho Chi Minh City, and I think being needed is what gets him out of bed. Fixing things was his whole working life, and retirement took that away; the building gave it back. There's also a kind of quiet authority in it. Two hundred households know his name, and in a tower where most of us don't know our neighbours, that's a strange and lovely thing to have built out of nothing but a rag and a willingness to be interrupted.

  • LRhe has appointed himself, without anyone askingThe idiomatic phrase 'appointed himself' is a natural, less-common way to describe self-assigned responsibility, reflecting Band 7.5 lexical resource.习语化表达 'appointed himself'(自封为)是一种自然而不常见的方式,用来描述自我赋予的责任,体现了7.5分的词汇资源水平。
  • GRAFixing things was his whole working life, and retirement took that away; the building gave it back. The semicolon joins two independent clauses that mirror each other structurally -- "retirement took that away" and "the building gave it back" -- using the same subject-verb-object pattern to create a balanced, almost aphoristic contrast without any connecting word at all. This punctuation-driven parallelism, requiring confident control of sentence boundaries, is a genuinely advanced structure that a Band 7.0 answer would more likely render as two sentences joined by "but" or "however."分号连接了两个在结构上相互映照的独立分句——"retirement took that away"和"the building gave it back"——用相同的主谓宾模式,在完全不用任何连接词的情况下,制造出一种平衡、近乎格言式的对比。这种由标点驱动的对仗,需要对句子边界有自信的掌控力,是一个真正高阶的结构,Band 7.0的答案更可能把它处理成用"but"或"however"连接的两个句子。
  • FCWhy he enjoys it — and he clearly does, he whistles while he works — I've thought about quite a bit.The sentence fronts the topic ("Why he enjoys it") before its verb, delaying the main clause with a dash-inserted aside that inserts supporting evidence (whistling) mid-thought -- a genuinely flexible, conversational way of structuring reflection that mimics real spoken thinking-aloud rather than a pre-planned linear explanation. This inverted, interrupted syntax is well beyond the more linear reason-clauses typical of Band 7.0 reflection.这句话把话题("Why he enjoys it")前置于动词之前,用一个破折号插入语在思路进行到一半时插入支持性证据(吹口哨),从而推迟了主句的出现——这是一种真正灵活、口语化的组织反思的方式,模拟了真实说话时"边想边说"的状态,而不是一种事先规划好的线性解释。这种倒装、被打断的句法,远远超出了Band 7.0反思中典型的那种更线性的原因从句。
  • LRthat's a strange and lovely thing to have built out of nothing but a rag and a willingness to be interrupted"Built out of nothing but a rag and a willingness to be interrupted" is a figurative extended metaphor -- treating an intangible social role (being needed) as something physically constructed from mundane and abstract materials -- combining precise concrete imagery (a rag) with an abstract, almost paradoxical concept (a willingness to be interrupted) in one balanced phrase. This is the single deliberate figurative touch the Band 7.5 lexical target calls for, used at the emotional high point of the story rather than scattered throughout."Built out of nothing but a rag and a willingness to be interrupted"是一个具有比喻色彩的延伸隐喻——把一种无形的社会角色(被需要的感觉)当作用平凡而抽象的材料physically构建出来的东西——在一个平衡的短语中,把精确具体的意象(一块抹布)与一个抽象、近乎悖论的概念(愿意被打断)结合在一起。这正是Band 7.5词汇标准所要求的那种唯一一处刻意的比喻笔触,用在了故事情感的最高点,而不是散布在全文各处。

Uses the plain verb 'are' for rice cookers' location and the general phrase 'don't think they really clean' for dishwasher scepticism.用朴素的动词 'are' 来表达电饭煲的位置,并用泛泛的短语 'don't think they really clean' 来表达对洗碗机的怀疑。

The usual list has grown fast in Vietnam. Washing machines are everywhere now, rice cookers are in every kitchen, and robot vacuums have arrived in a big way — my parents bought one last year, gave it a name, and my father genuinely argues with it when it gets stuck under the sofa. Air conditioners, water purifiers, and electric kettles are standard in cities. Dishwashers are still rare here, partly because of how we eat and partly because people don't think they really clean. What I notice is that each machine removes a chore but adds a small new job, so the time you save is always less than the advert promised.

    • FCrice cookers are in every kitchenThe plain verb 'are' simply states location. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace this with the more vivid verb 'sit', a small personifying touch that makes the sentence read slightly more naturally.朴素的动词 'are' 只是单纯陈述了位置。7.0/7.5版本把它换成了更生动的动词 'sit',这是一个小小的拟人化处理,让句子读起来更自然一些。
    • LRpeople don't think they really cleanThis is a workable but slightly informal way of describing a common belief. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace it with the more formal noun phrase 'the belief that they don't really clean', which matches the more analytical tone of the rest of the answer.这是一种可用但略显非正式的方式来描述一种普遍看法。7.0/7.5版本把它换成了更正式的名词短语 'the belief that they don't really clean',与答案其余部分更具分析性的语气相匹配。
    • GRAeach machine removes a chore but adds a small new jobThis uses the plain coordinator 'but' and the vague noun 'job'. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace 'but' with 'and' and 'a small new job' with the more precise 'a small maintenance job', both small but real upgrades in precision.这里用了朴素的并列连词 'but' 和含糊的名词 'job'。7.0/7.5版本把 'but' 换成了 'and',把 'a small new job' 换成了更精确的 'a small maintenance job',这两处都是虽小但实在的精确度提升。

    • FCsit in every kitchenThis slightly personifying verb choice is a natural upgrade from the plain 6.5 verb 'are', giving the sentence a touch more descriptive life without changing the meaning.这个略带拟人色彩的动词选择,是对6.5分朴素动词 'are' 的自然升级,在不改变意思的前提下,给句子增添了一点描述性的生气。
    • LRthe belief that they don't really cleanThis nominalised phrase is more precise and formal than the plain 6.5 clause 'people don't think they really clean', better fitting the reflective, analytical tone established elsewhere in the answer.这个名词化短语比6.5分朴素的从句 'people don't think they really clean' 更精确、更正式,也更符合答案其他部分所建立的反思性、分析性语气。
    • GRAeach machine removes a chore and adds a small maintenance job, so the total time saved is always less than the advert promisedThis sentence uses 'and' rather than 'but' to link the two clauses, treating them as part of one continuous observation rather than a contrast, a subtly more sophisticated way of presenting cause and effect together.这个句子用 'and' 而不是 'but' 来连接两个从句,把它们当作一个连续观察的一部分,而不是一种对比,这是一种更微妙、更老练的方式,把因果关系放在一起呈现。

Dishwashers remain rare here, partly because of how we eat and partly because of the lingering belief that they don't really clean. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCrobot vacuums have arrived in forceThe idiom 'in force' is a more vivid, almost military metaphor for sudden widespread adoption, replacing the plainer 7.0/6.5 phrase 'in a big way' with something more distinctive.习语 'in force' 是一个更生动、近乎军事化的比喻,用来形容突然大范围普及,取代了7.0/6.5分更朴素的短语 'in a big way',更具辨识度。
    • LRthe lingering belief that they don't really cleanThe added participle 'lingering' gives the noun phrase a sense of a stubborn, persistent idea, a more evocative upgrade from 7.0's plain 'the belief that they don't really clean'.加上的分词 'lingering',让这个名词短语带有一种顽固、持久观念的意味,这是对7.0分朴素的 'the belief that they don't really clean' 更具画面感的升级。
    • GRAeach machine removes one chore and quietly adds a small maintenance job of its own, so the time actually saved never quite matches what the advert promisedThis sentence adds the adverb 'quietly' and the phrase 'of its own' as parenthetical insertions within the main clause, and closes with the more idiomatic 'never quite matches' instead of 7.0's plainer comparative 'is always less than', showing more flexible control over sentence-internal modification.这个句子在主句中插入了副词 'quietly' 和短语 'of its own' 作为插入成分,并用更地道的 'never quite matches' 代替7.0分更朴素的比较级 'is always less than' 来收尾,展现出对句内修饰更灵活的掌控力。

Ends the answer on the two parental mistakes without an added clause spelling out the consequence of the punishment mistake.以两个家长常犯的错误结束答案,没有增加一个从句来说明"惩罚"这个错误会带来什么后果。

They should, and early, and I say that as someone who didn't like it at the time. I was washing rice and sweeping the yard at seven years old, and I only understood why when I moved into my first flat at twenty and watched a flatmate who had never done either struggle with both. Helping at home teaches you to be capable, of course, but it also teaches that a household is shared work, not a service one tired adult provides. It builds a feeling of belonging — you're a member, not a guest. The mistake some parents make is doing everything for the child out of love, or using chores as a punishment.

    • FCI say that as someone who didn't like it at the time. This is a plain, direct way of admitting past reluctance. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace 'didn't like it' with the more precise, slightly formal verb 'resented', a stronger and more natural word for describing childhood frustration.这是一种朴素、直接地承认过去不情愿的方式。7.0/7.5版本把 'didn't like it' 换成了更精确、略显正式的动词 'resented',这是一个更有力、更自然的词,用来描述童年时的抵触情绪。

The 7.0/7.5 versions replace this with the single abstract noun 'competence', a more economical and formal way of naming the same quality.这里重复了动词 'teaches',宾语是 'you to be capable'。7.0/7.5版本把它换成了单一的抽象名词 'competence',用更经济、更正式的方式来命名同一种品质。
    • GRAThe mistake some parents make is doing everything for the child out of love, or using chores as a punishment. This sentence lists the two mistakes with 'or' but stops there. The 7.0/7.5 versions extend the same sentence with a further relative clause explaining the consequence of the second mistake, adding an extra layer of reasoning within one sentence.这个句子用 'or' 列出了两个错误,但就此打住。7.0/7.5版本在同一个句子后面加了一个进一步的关系从句,解释第二个错误的后果,在一个句子里增添了一层推理。

Adds the hedge 'I'd say' before naming the two parental mistakes and extends the closing sentence with a consequence clause.在提到两个家长常犯的错误之前加上了模糊语气 'I'd say',并用一个表示后果的从句延伸了结尾句。

They should, and early, and I say that as someone who resented it at the time. I was washing rice and sweeping the yard at seven, and I only understood why when I moved into my first flat at twenty and watched a flatmate who'd never done either struggle with both. Helping at home teaches competence, obviously, but it also teaches that a household is shared work rather than a service provided by one tired adult. It builds a sense of belonging — you're a member, not a guest. The mistake some parents make, I'd say, is either doing everything for the child out of love, or using chores as punishment, which teaches the opposite lesson entirely.

    • FCI'd say,This hedge softens the claim about parental mistakes, a more natural spoken device than the flat 6.5 statement 'The mistake some parents make is'. The 7.5 version drops the hedge for a more direct, confident final claim.这个模糊语气软化了关于家长错误的论断,是一种比6.5分平淡陈述 'The mistake some parents make is' 更自然的口语手法。7.5版本去掉了模糊语气,让最后的论断更直接、更自信。
    • LRresentedThis precise, formal verb is a clear upgrade from the plain 6.5 phrase 'didn't like it', capturing childhood frustration more vividly and naturally.这个精确、正式的动词,明显是对6.5分朴素短语 'didn't like it' 的升级,更生动、更自然地捕捉到了童年时的抵触情绪。
    • GRAwhich teaches the opposite lesson entirelyThis relative clause extends the closing sentence with an explicit consequence, a structural move the 6.5 version doesn't make, stopping instead at simply naming the two mistakes.这个关系从句用一个明确的后果延伸了结尾句,这是6.5版本没有做的结构性处理,它只是止步于单纯列出两个错误。
    7.5 分

Drops the hedge used at 7.0 and replaces the vague 'opposite lesson entirely' with the more specific, ironic final clause about helping being tied to punishment.去掉了7.0分用过的模糊语气,并把含糊的 'opposite lesson entirely' 换成了更具体、更带讽刺意味的结尾从句——把帮忙和惩罚联系在了一起。

They should, and early, and I say that as someone who resented it at the time. I was washing rice and sweeping the yard at seven, and I only understood why when I moved into my first flat at twenty and watched a flatmate who'd never done either struggle with both. Helping at home teaches competence, obviously, but also that a household is shared work rather than a service provided by one tired adult. It builds a sense of belonging — you're a member, not a guest. The mistake some parents make is either doing everything for the child out of love, or using chores as punishment, which teaches that helping is what happens when you've been bad.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe mistake some parents make is either doing everything for the child out of love, or using chores as punishment, which teaches that helping is what happens when you've been bad. This closing sentence states the mistake directly, without the hedge 'I'd say' used at 7.0, and replaces 7.0's vaguer consequence ('teaches the opposite lesson entirely') with a specific, ironic explanation of exactly what gets taught instead.这个结尾句直接陈述了这个错误,不像7.0分那样使用模糊语气 'I'd say',并把7.0分较含糊的后果("teaches the opposite lesson entirely")换成了一个具体、带讽刺意味的解释,说明到底教给了孩子什么。
    • LRteaches that helping is what happens when you've been badThis precise, almost ironic final clause names the exact wrong lesson a child learns, a more specific and memorable upgrade from 7.0's vaguer closing phrase 'teaches the opposite lesson entirely'.这个精确、近乎讽刺的结尾从句,点明了孩子学到的确切的错误一课,比7.0分较含糊的结尾短语 'teaches the opposite lesson entirely' 更具体、更令人印象深刻。
    • GRAbut also that a household is shared work rather than a service provided by one tired adultThis drops the repeated 'it' before 'also', fusing the two verb complements ('teaches competence... but also that a household is...') into one smoother coordinated structure, a slightly tighter construction than 7.0's version, which repeats the subject 'it' before 'also teaches'.这里去掉了 'also' 前面重复的 'it',把两个动词补语("teaches competence... but also that a household is...")融合成一个更流畅的并列结构,比7.0版本在 'also teaches' 前重复主语 'it' 的做法更紧凑一些。

I agree, and the reason isn't really about fairness, it's about what unfairness does to a family. For years my mother cooked the whole Tết feast alone while everyone else watched television, and the resentment came out in small ways all year. When my sister and I started taking two dishes each, the cooking became something we did together and the whole holiday felt warmer. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCthe reason isn't really about fairness, it's about what unfairness does to a familyThis uses the plain phrase 'isn't really about... it's about'. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace this with the more idiomatic comparative structure 'isn't so much fairness as' / 'isn't fairness so much as', a more elegant, native-sounding way of making the same contrast.这里用了朴素的短语 'isn't really about... it's about'。7.0/7.5版本把它换成了更地道的比较结构 'isn't so much fairness as' / 'isn't fairness so much as',用一种更优雅、更接近母语者的方式表达了同样的对比。
    • LRthe resentment came out in small ways all yearThis is complete but plain. The 7.0 version extends it slightly to 'all year round', a small but more natural, idiomatic addition to the same time phrase.这个说法完整但朴素。7.0版本把它稍微扩展为 'all year round',为同一个时间短语增添了一点更自然、更地道的表达。
    • GRAFamilies where one person carries it all tend to be quietly angry. This sentence ends without further qualification. The 7.0/7.5 versions extend the same sentence with the concessive tag 'whether or not anyone says so', adding a further layer of nuance within one sentence.这个句子没有进一步的限定就结束了。7.0/7.5版本在同一个句子后面加上了让步性的尾句 'whether or not anyone says so',在一个句子里增添了一层细致的意味。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCisn't so much fairness as what unfairness does to a familyThis idiomatic 'not so much X as Y' comparative structure is more elegant and native-sounding than the plainer 6.5 phrasing 'isn't really about fairness, it's about'.这种地道的 'not so much X as Y' 比较结构,比6.5分更朴素的表达 'isn't really about fairness, it's about' 更优雅、更接近母语者的说法。
    • LRall year roundThis slightly fuller, more idiomatic time phrase is a small natural upgrade from the plain 6.5 phrase 'all year'.这个稍微更完整、更地道的时间短语,是对6.5分朴素短语 'all year' 的一个小小的自然升级。
    • GRAwhether or not anyone says soThis concessive tag, absent from the 6.5 version, extends the final sentence with an additional layer of nuance, a structural move the 6.5 version doesn't make.这个让步性的尾句,是6.5版本没有的,它为最后一句增添了一层额外的细致意味,这是6.5版本没有做的结构性处理。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCisn't fairness so much as what unfairness does to a familyThis reorders the comparative slightly compared with 7.0's 'isn't so much fairness as', placing 'fairness' first for a marginally more natural, emphatic rhythm in spoken English.这里对比较结构做了些微的语序调整,与7.0分的 'isn't so much fairness as' 相比,把 'fairness' 放在前面,在口语英语中带来了略微更自然、更有节奏感的强调效果。
    • LRall yearThis reverts to the leaner 6.5 phrasing rather than 7.0's slightly fuller 'all year round', suggesting a deliberately economical choice consistent with the tighter overall phrasing elsewhere in this band's answer.这里回归到了6.5分更精炼的表达,而不是7.0分稍微更完整的 'all year round',这表明这是一个刻意追求经济性的选择,与这个分段其他地方更紧凑的整体表达一致。
    • GRAFamilies where one person carries it all tend to be quietly angry, whether or not anyone says so.This closing sentence is identical to 7.0's, showing the concessive tag introduced at 7.0 was already a mature, higher-band structure requiring no further change at the top band.这个结尾句与7.0分的完全相同,说明7.0分引入的让步性尾句已经是一个成熟的高分段结构,不需要在最高分段再做进一步的改动。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCfar more than the written onesThe intensifier 'far' is a more emphatic, natural upgrade from the plain 6.5 word 'much', better suiting the confident opening claim of the answer.加强语气词 'far' 比6.5分朴素的词 'much' 更有力、更自然,更符合答案开头那种自信的论断。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCMost companies provide the login and skip everything else. This closing observation is given its own short, separate sentence rather than being attached to the previous one with 'which' as at 7.0, creating a punchier, more memorable final statement.这个结尾的观察被独立成了一句简短的话,而不是像7.0分那样用 'which' 附加在前一句后面,创造出更有力、更令人印象深刻的结尾陈述。
    • LRnothing settles nerves like finishing somethingThis drops the intensifier 'quite' used at 7.0's version of the same phrase, a slightly leaner, more confident final version of the same idiomatic claim.这里去掉了7.0版本同一短语中用到的加强语气词 'quite',使同一个地道的论断变得更精炼、更自信。

    • LRI once lost two days on a layout problem because of prideThe cause is expressed with the plain phrase 'because of pride'. Some will, and I can already see the shape of it. My studio hired one junior designer this year instead of the usual three, because the first drafts they used to spend weeks on now come out of software in an hour. That's not three people fired; it's two jobs that never existed, which is probably how most of the loss will happen — quietly, at the entry level. Whole types of routine work, like basic translation, customer support and bookkeeping, will shrink. Whether 'many' is the right word depends on how fast new work appears alongside it. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCSome will, and I can already see the shape of it.This opening is plain and direct. The 7.0 version extends it slightly with 'happening' at the end, a small but natural addition that makes the claim feel more concrete and ongoing.这个开头朴素而直接。7.0版本在结尾稍微延伸加上了 'happening',这是一个虽小但自然的补充,让这个论断显得更具体、更具持续性。
    • LRWhole types of routine workThis is a workable but slightly informal category noun. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace 'types' with the more formal, precise noun 'categories', a small but real register upgrade appropriate to a discussion of labour trends.这是一个可用但略显非正式的类别名词。7.0/7.5版本把 'types' 换成了更正式、更精确的名词 'categories',这是一个虽小但实在的语域升级,更适合讨论劳动力趋势的语境。
    • GRAHistory suggests it does, but maybe not for the same people. This sentence ends after one qualifying clause. The 7.0/7.5 versions extend the same sentence with a further clause about the gap being 'where the real damage happens', adding an evaluative conclusion the 6.5 version doesn't reach.这个句子在一个限定从句之后就结束了。7.0/7.5版本在同一个句子后面又加了一个从句,说明那个差距正是"真正损害发生的地方",增添了一个6.5版本没有达到的评价性结论。

Adds the word 'happening' to the opening and extends the closing sentence with the evaluative clause about where 'the real damage happens'.在开头加上了 'happening' 这个词,并用一个关于"真正损害发生的地方"的评价性从句延伸了结尾句。

Some will, and I can already see the shape of it happening. My studio hired one junior designer this year instead of the usual three, because the first drafts they used to spend weeks on now come out of software in an hour. That's not three people fired; it's two jobs that never appeared, which is probably how most of the loss will actually happen — quietly, at the entry level. Whole categories of routine work, like basic translation, customer support and bookkeeping, will shrink. Whether 'many' is the right word depends on how quickly new work appears alongside it. History suggests it does, but not necessarily for the same people, and that gap is where the real damage happens.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI can already see the shape of it happeningThe added participle 'happening' makes this claim feel more concrete and ongoing than the plain 6.5 version 'I can already see the shape of it', a small but deliberate extension.加上的分词 'happening',让这个论断比6.5分朴素的版本 'I can already see the shape of it' 显得更具体、更具持续性,这是一个虽小但刻意的延伸。
    • LRcategories of routine workThis more formal, precise noun is a clear upgrade from the plain 6.5 word 'types', better fitting the analytical register of a discussion about labour market shifts.这个更正式、更精确的名词,明显是对6.5分朴素词汇 'types' 的升级,更符合讨论劳动力市场变化的分析性语域。
    • GRAand that gap is where the real damage happensThis final clause, absent from the 6.5 version, extends the closing sentence with an evaluative conclusion, a structural move the 6.5 version doesn't make, stopping instead at the milder observation about timing.这个最后的从句,是6.5版本没有的,它用一个评价性的结论延伸了结尾句,这是6.5版本没有做的结构性处理,而是止步于一个关于时机更温和的观察。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCbut not for the same people, and not at the same time, and that gap is where real damage happensThis closing sentence adds a third parallel clause ('and not at the same time') beyond the two clauses used at 7.0, building a triple structure that makes the final point about timing more emphatic and complete.这个结尾句在7.0分使用的两个从句之外,又加上了第三个并列从句("and not at the same time"),构建出一个三重结构,让关于时机的最后观点更有力、更完整。
    • LRit's two jobs that never appearedThis phrase is identical to 7.0's already precise wording, showing the lexical upgrade from 6.5's 'never existed' to 'never appeared' was already achieved at 7.0.这个短语与7.0分已经很精确的措辞完全相同,说明从6.5分的 'never existed' 到 'never appeared' 的词汇升级,在7.0分就已经完成了。
    • GRASome will, and I can already see the shape of it.This reverts to the leaner 6.5-style opening without the extra participle 'happening' used at 7.0, suggesting a deliberately compact opening that leaves room for the more elaborate triple-clause ending later in the same answer.这里回归到了6.5分风格更精炼的开头,没有7.0分用过的额外分词 'happening',这表明这是一个刻意紧凑的开头,为同一个答案后面更精心的三重从句结尾留出了空间。

Uses the plain verb phrase 'gave... the job of' rather than the more precise formal verb 'assigned'.用朴素的动词短语 'gave... the job of',而不是更精确、更正式的动词 'assigned'。

I think so, though how much responsibility depends on what a person can actually carry. Nobody gave Mr Tâm the job of keeping our building's flood list; he saw a gap and filled it, and that seems to me like the model — not grand duty, but noticing what's in front of you. A person struggling to feed their family has already met their responsibility by doing that. Someone with more time, money or skills has more to answer for. Where I'd push back is on the idea that responsibility means activism; helping a neighbour, doing your job honestly and raising good children improve society more than most campaigns.

    • FCNobody gave Mr Tâm the job of keeping our building's flood listThis uses the everyday phrase 'gave... the job of'. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace this with the single, more formal verb 'assigned', a more economical and precise way of expressing the same idea of an official, delegated duty.这里用了日常短语 'gave... the job of'。7.0/7.5版本把它换成了单一、更正式的动词 'assigned',用一种更经济、更精确的方式表达了同样的"正式委派职责"这个意思。
    • LRA person struggling to feed their family has already met their responsibility by doing that. The adverb 'already' adds a slightly redundant emphasis. The 7.0/7.5 versions drop it, tightening the sentence to 'has met their responsibility by doing that/exactly that', a cleaner construction.副词 'already' 增添了一点略显多余的强调。7.0/7.5版本去掉了它,把句子收紧为 'has met their responsibility by doing that/exactly that',这是一个更干净的结构。
    • GRAimprove society more than most campaigns. This comparative ends plainly. The 7.0 version extends it with 'ever do', an emphatic echo structure that intensifies the comparison, showing a more developed grammatical device than the plain comparative used here.这个比较句平淡地结束了。7.0版本用 'ever do' 延伸了它,这是一种带强调意味的回声结构,加强了这个比较,展现出比这里使用的朴素比较级更成熟的语法手法。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCNobody assigned Mr Tâm the jobThis single, precise verb is a clear economical upgrade from the fuller 6.5 phrase 'gave... the job of', capturing the sense of an official duty in one word.这个单一、精确的动词,明显是对6.5分更完整的短语 'gave... the job of' 的一种经济性升级,用一个词就捕捉到了"正式职责"这个含义。
    • LRhas met their responsibility by doing exactly thatThe added intensifier 'exactly' sharpens the claim slightly more than the plain 6.5 phrase 'has already met their responsibility by doing that', giving the sentence a touch more precision.加上的加强语气词 'exactly',比6.5分朴素的短语 'has already met their responsibility by doing that' 让这个论断更为锐利,为句子增添了一点精确度。
    • GRAimprove society more than most campaigns ever doThe echo structure 'ever do' after the comparative intensifies the claim, a more sophisticated grammatical device than the plain comparative ending used at 6.5, which stops at 'more than most campaigns'.比较级后面的回声结构 'ever do' 加强了这个论断,这是一种比6.5分单纯的比较级结尾更老练的语法手法,后者只止步于 'more than most campaigns'。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCEveryone owes something, but the something can be small. This additional closing sentence, absent from both 6.5 and 7.0, distils the whole argument into a final compact generalisation, a structural device unique to this band.这个额外的结尾句,是6.5分和7.0分都没有的,它把整个论证提炼成一个最终紧凑的总结,这是这个分段独有的结构手法。
    • LRthe something can be smallThis deliberately vague repetition of 'something' as a noun is a distinctive, almost playful piece of phrasing that neither lower band attempts, giving the final line a memorable, aphoristic quality.这种刻意含糊、把 'something' 当名词重复使用的手法,是一种独特、近乎俏皮的表达,两个低分段都没有尝试过,让最后一句带上了令人难忘的格言感。
    • GRAimprove society more than most campaigns. Everyone owes something, but the something can be small.Rather than intensifying the comparative sentence itself (as 7.0 does with 'ever do'), this band adds an entirely new short sentence afterwards, a different but equally valid way of extending and rounding off the same idea.这个分段没有像7.0分那样通过 'ever do' 来加强比较句本身,而是在后面新增了一整个简短的句子,这是一种不同但同样有效的方式,来延伸和收束同一个想法。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCbut calling it the best way isn't fair to peopleThis uses the plain, general phrase 'isn't fair to people'. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace it with the idiomatic phrasal expression 'sells people short', a more vivid, natural way of criticising an overstated claim.这里用了朴素、泛泛的短语 'isn't fair to people'。7.0/7.5版本把它换成了地道的短语表达 'sells people short',用一种更生动、更自然的方式来批评一个被夸大的论断。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCsells people rather shortThis idiomatic phrase is a vivid, natural upgrade from the plain 6.5 phrase 'isn't fair to people', with 'rather' softening it slightly as a natural spoken hedge.这个地道的短语,是对6.5分朴素短语 'isn't fair to people' 的一种生动、自然的升级,'rather' 作为一个自然的口语模糊语气,让它稍微软化了一些。
    • LRno attention or care involvedThis more precise noun pairing is a clear upgrade from the vaguer 6.5 phrase 'no real effort or care involved', better capturing the specific quality that taxation lacks compared with voluntary help.

    • FCwhich is where transformation startsThis states the closing observation directly, without the intensifier 'genuinely' used at 7.0's version of the same clause, giving the final line a slightly more understated, confident register.这里直接陈述了结尾的观察,没有7.0版本同一从句中使用的加强语气词 'genuinely',让最后一句带有略微更低调、更自信的语域。
    • LRthe government did the transformingThis phrase is identical to 7.0's already precise wording, confirming the lexical upgrade from 6.5's 'the actual changing' was already achieved at 7.0.这个短语与7.0分已经很精确的措辞完全相同,证实了从6.5分的 'the actual changing' 升级而来的这一步,在7.0分就已经完成了。
    • GRAIndividuals can't transform society alone; they can decide what society will accept, which is where transformation starts. This sentence keeps the same semicolon-plus-relative-clause structure introduced at 7.0, showing that particular grammatical development was already mature at 7.0, with 7.5's refinement concentrated in trimming the intensifier rather than changing the structure.这个句子保留了7.0分引入的同样的"分号加关系从句"结构,说明这个特定的语法发展在7.0分就已经成熟了,7.5分的改进集中在修剪加强语气词上,而不是改变结构本身。
