The plain description 'got tired after ten minutes' and the simple chronological account of the training keep the answer clear but linguistically modest, typical of Band 6.5.朴实的描述'got tired after ten minutes',加上按时间顺序简单叙述训练过程,使回答清晰但语言层面比较朴素,是Band 6.5的典型表现。

The person I helped with fitness is my colleague Nam, who sits near me in the office. About six months ago, he went for a health check and the doctor told him his weight was too high and he needed more exercise. He was a bit worried after that.

Nam wanted to get fitter mainly for his health, and also because he felt tired every afternoon at work. He asked me what he should do, since he knew I like sports.

I suggested badminton, because there is a sports center near Vincom mall, not far from our office. We started playing twice a week after work, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. At first Nam was very slow and got tired after ten minutes, but I told him not to give up and just keep playing regularly. We also started taking the stairs instead of the lift sometimes, since our office is on a high floor.

After about three months, Nam's fitness improved a lot. He could play a full game without stopping, and he lost some weight too. He said he felt much more energetic in the afternoons, and he even bought his own racket. Now he sometimes invites other colleagues to join us, so our little badminton group is getting bigger.

  • LRNam's fitness improved a lot"Improved a lot" is a generic verb-plus-intensifier combination that could apply to almost any kind of progress, rather than a more specific phrase ("his stamina built up quickly," "he got noticeably fitter") that would better capture the particular improvement described afterward (playing a full game, losing weight). This generality functions as a topic sentence for the paragraph, with the specific evidence following separately, a common and acceptable pattern at Band 6.5 even though the summary phrase itself stays lexically plain."Improved a lot"是一个笼统的"动词+强调词"组合,几乎可以套用到任何类型的进步上,而不是像"his stamina built up quickly"、"he got noticeably fitter"这样更具体的说法,本可以更好地捕捉到后面所描述的具体进步(打完整场比赛、体重下降)。这种笼统性起到了段落话题句的作用,具体证据在后面单独跟进,这是Band 6.5一种常见且可接受的模式,尽管这句概括性短语本身在词汇上仍然平实。
  • GRAAt first Nam was very slow and got tired after ten minutes, but I told him not to give upTwo separate ideas — Nam's early struggle and the speaker's encouragement — are joined with a single "but," rather than being subordinated ("even though Nam was very slow at first, I told him..."). "Very" and "got tired" are both simple intensifier-plus-verb combinations, keeping the vocabulary plain even as the anecdote itself conveys a fairly specific coaching moment. This reliance on coordination over subordination for linking contrasting ideas is exactly the basic linking pattern the Band 6.5 grammar descriptor describes.两个各自独立的想法——阿南最初的挣扎与说话人的鼓励——只用一个"but"连接起来,而不是被从属化("even though Nam was very slow at first, I told him...")。"Very"和"got tired"都是简单的"强调词+动词"组合,即便这段轶事本身传达的是一个相当具体的指导时刻,词汇仍保持平实。这种依赖并列而非从属结构来连接对比性想法的做法,正是Band 6.5语法描述语所刻画的基础连接模式。
  • FCso our little badminton group is getting biggerThis closing sentence reports a simple, ongoing observation (the group is "getting bigger") using the present continuous, wrapping up the story with a concrete, verifiable fact rather than a more reflective statement about what the experience meant to either the speaker or Nam. It's a functional, understated way to end a Part 2 answer, consistent with the direct, one-idea-at-a-time closing style typical of Band 6.5, where elaborating further isn't necessary to satisfy the task.这句结尾用现在进行时报告了一个简单、正在持续的观察(这个团队正在"getting bigger"),用一个具体、可核实的事实来收束故事,而不是一句关于这段经历对说话人或阿南意味着什么的更具反思性的陈述。这是Part 2答案的一种功能性、低调的收尾方式,符合Band 6.5典型的那种直接、一次一个要点的收尾风格,在这里不需要进一步展开就能满足任务要求。

The comparative clause 'rather than comparing herself to me' and the closing reflection about seeing her 'build that habit up gradually' show natural development and comfortable grammar range typical of Band 7.0.比较从句'rather than comparing herself to me',加上结尾处关于看着她"build that habit up gradually"的反思,展现出Band 7.0典型的自然内容展开和运用自如的语法范围。

One person I helped improve their fitness was my colleague Mai, who sits at the desk next to mine. About five months ago, she mentioned that she'd been feeling constantly out of breath just from climbing the stairs to our office on the third floor, and she wanted to do something about it.

Mai told me she wanted to get fitter mainly because she was worried about her health, and also because she felt embarrassed getting tired so easily in front of colleagues. She knew I cycled to work most days, so she asked if I had any tips for getting started without feeling overwhelmed.

I suggested we try cycling together a couple of mornings a week, since there's a fairly flat route along the river that isn't too difficult for beginners. At first, Mai found even a short ride tiring and had to stop and rest halfway, but I encouraged her to keep going at her own pace rather than comparing herself to me. We also started taking the stairs at work instead of the lift, just as a small extra habit.

After about two months, Mai's fitness had improved noticeably. She could manage the full ride without stopping, and climbing the stairs at work no longer left her out of breath. She told me she felt more energetic generally, not just during exercise, and she's since bought her own bike instead of borrowing mine. It's honestly been nice to see her build that habit up gradually, and a couple of other colleagues have started joining us too. She even mentioned that our early rides became something she genuinely looked forward to, rather than just another task on her to-do list.

  • GRAbut I encouraged her to keep going at her own pace rather than comparing herself to meThis sentence stacks a 'but'-coordinated contrast with an infinitive purpose structure ('encouraged her to keep going') and a 'rather than + gerund' comparison, all inside one sentence describing a specific coaching moment. A 6.5 answer would likely break this into two flatter sentences ('She was tired. I told her not to compare herself to me.'); a 7.5 answer might additionally front-load the contrast for emphasis. The combination here is accurate and unforced, matching 7.0's comfortable mix of simple and complex sentences, and it captures psychological coaching, not just a physical instruction.这句话把一个由 'but' 连接的对比,与一个不定式目的结构('encouraged her to keep going')以及一个 'rather than + 动名词' 的比较结构叠加在一起,全部放进一句话里,描述了一个具体的指导瞬间。Band 6.5的答案很可能会把这个意思拆成两句更平淡的话('She was tired. I told her not to compare herself to me.');Band 7.5的答案则可能进一步把对比部分前置以示强调。这里的组合准确自然、毫不费力,符合Band 7.0简单句与复合句从容混用的特点,也捕捉到了这是一种心理层面的指导,而不仅仅是身体动作上的指令。
  • LRout of breath'Out of breath' is a fixed, everyday collocation used twice — first to introduce Mai's problem, later to mark her improvement — so the same natural phrase functions as a measurable before-and-after marker rather than a one-off description. A 6.5 answer might use a flatter phrase like 'very tired'; a 7.5 answer might vary the repetition with something more figurative. Reusing this exact phrase to bookend the story is a small coherence device as well as an accurate collocation, matching the flexible everyday vocabulary 7.0 calls for.'Out of breath' 是一个固定的日常搭配,在文中出现了两次——先是用来引出Mai遇到的问题,后来又用来标记她的进步——因此同一个自然的短语在前后呼应中充当了可衡量的对照标记,而不只是一次性的描述。Band 6.5的答案可能会用更平淡的说法,比如 'very tired';Band 7.5的答案则可能在重复时换成更具比喻色彩的表达。重复使用这个确切短语来首尾呼应整个故事,既是一种小小的连贯手法,也是一个准确的搭配用法,符合Band 7.0所要求的灵活日常词汇。
  • FCIt's honestly been nice to see her build that habit up graduallyThis closing line shifts from reporting Mai's fitness results to the speaker's own response to watching the change unfold, with 'honestly' marking genuine spoken reflection rather than a rehearsed conclusion. A 6.5 answer would likely end by simply restating the outcome ('Now she is not tired anymore'); here 'build that habit up gradually' also frames the change as a process, adding interpretation on top of fact. That process-aware reflection is the developed coherence 7.0 targets, leading naturally into the detail about other colleagues joining.这句收尾句从转述Mai的健身成果,转向说话人自己在见证这一变化过程时的感受,'honestly' 一词标示出一种真实的口语反思,而非事先准备好的结论。Band 6.5的答案很可能只是简单重复一下结果就结束('Now she is not tired anymore');而这里的 'build that habit up gradually' 也把这一变化框定为一个渐进的过程,在事实之上又添加了一层诠释。这种对过程有所意识的反思,正是Band 7.0所追求的那种有层次的连贯性,并自然而然地引出后面关于其他同事加入的细节。
7.5 分

The closing comparison 'his energy is honestly on a different level compared to before' and the reciprocal reflection that watching him kept the speaker motivated too show the evaluative depth and flexible phrasing typical of Band 7.5.结尾处的比较'his energy is honestly on a different level compared to before',加上"看着他也让说话者自己保持了动力"这一互动式反思,展现出Band 7.5典型的评价深度和灵活措辞。

One person I helped improve their fitness was my good friend Quân, who actually works at a different tech company just across the Han River from my office. This was about six months ago, around the time when he messaged me out of the blue, saying he'd been feeling constantly tired and was having trouble focusing during work. He admitted he'd been skipping meals and not moving much, especially after a busy period with lots of late-night coding sprints.

Quân told me he wanted to get back in shape, mainly to boost his energy and start feeling more confident about his health. Honestly, I could relate because our jobs make it so easy to just sit at a desk for hours and forget about exercise. So, I suggested we try something simple: short morning runs together at My Khe Beach on weekends. I wasn't sure he'd wake up for it, but he surprised me by showing up right at 6:30am the first Saturday. We started with just two kilometers-nothing too ambitious-then stretched and grabbed a quick cà phê sữa đá at a beachside stall. I also shared some easy home exercises I found on YouTube, and we agreed to check in with each other through Zalo during the week.

After about a month, Quân was actually running five kilometers without stopping, and he said he noticed a real difference-he felt less sluggish at work, and his sleep improved too. He even convinced two colleagues from his office to join us, so our little running group grew. I think seeing his progress kept me motivated as well. From what I can tell, he's stuck with the routine, and now his energy is honestly on a different level compared to before.

  • LRhis energy is honestly on a different level compared to before'A different level' is an idiomatic way of expressing a large, qualitative change that avoids the flatter, more literal alternative a lower-band answer would use, such as 'he has a lot more energy now.' Choosing this natural collocation, and softening it with the conversational filler 'honestly,' is the kind of precise, flexible vocabulary the Band 7.5 lexical target rewards over the plain comparative structures a 7.0 answer would rely on. Placing the phrase at the very end of the answer also gives it weight as a closing verdict on Quân's progress, summarising six months of specific detail in one confident, colloquial line.'A different level'是一种习语化的说法,用来表达一种大幅度、质变式的变化,避免了低分段答案会用的那种更平淡、更字面化的替代说法,比如"他现在精力充沛多了。"选择这种自然的搭配,并用口语化的插入语'honestly'来软化它,正是7.5分词汇目标所看重的那种精准、灵活的词汇,胜过7.0分答案会依赖的平实比较结构。把这个短语放在回答的最末尾,也让它承载了对Quân进步情况的收尾定论的分量,用一句自信、口语化的话总结了六个月的具体细节。
  • FCI think seeing his progress kept me motivated as well. The sentence reverses the expected direction of the story — instead of only describing how the speaker motivated Quân, it notes that watching Quân's progress motivated the speaker in return — a reflective, slightly unexpected observation rather than a simple continuation of the narrative. That kind of two-way, self-aware insight is the evaluative depth the Band 7.5 coherence target rewards, where a plainer answer would likely stop at describing the other person's improvement. It also sets up the answer's closing line about the running group growing, reframing the whole story as a mutual, ongoing relationship rather than a one-directional favour.
  • GRAHe admitted he'd been skipping meals and not moving much, especially after a busy period with lots of late-night coding sprints. The sentence opens with reported speech using the past perfect ('he'd been skipping meals'), then extends it with a prepositional phrase modified further by 'especially after a busy period with lots of late-night coding sprints,' stacking detail onto a single main clause rather than starting new sentences for each fact. Managing that much layered elaboration accurately, while keeping the reported-speech tense consistent throughout, is the varied complex grammar the Band 7.5 target rewards, going beyond the simpler reported statements a 7.0 answer would typically produce. The workplace-specific detail about 'coding sprints' also grounds the reported admission in a believable, specific cause.这句话以过去完成时构成的间接引语开头('he'd been skipping meals'),然后用一个进一步被'especially after a busy period with lots of late-night coding sprints'修饰的介词短语加以扩展,把细节层层叠加到单一主句上,而不是为每一条事实另起一句。能够准确驾驭如此多层次的展开,同时全程保持转述语气时态的一致性,正是7.5分目标所看重的多样复杂语法,超越了7.0分答案通常会写出的更简单的转述句。关于"coding sprints"(深夜赶代码冲刺)这一职场特有的细节,也让这句转述出来的坦白建立在一个可信、具体的原因之上。
