Personality is described with plain, common adjectives ('easy-going and always cheerful') and the answer closes with a short, general statement ('time with her always passes quickly'), which is clear but linguistically modest.性格是用平实常见的形容词来描述的(‘随和、总是很开心’),结尾用一句简短笼统的话收束(‘和她在一起时间总是过得很快’),表达清晰但语言层面比较朴素。

The person I want to talk about is Thao, a woman I met while running at My Khe Beach about two years ago.

We met because we kept running at the same time every Saturday morning and often finished at the same spot near the steps to rest. One day we just started talking, and we found out we lived quite close to each other, so we began running together every weekend after that.

Thao works as a teacher, which is very different from my job, but she is easy-going and always cheerful, even early in the morning, which I am definitely not. She's also very determined, and she's the reason I finally ran my first ten kilometres.

What we do together is mostly running, but we also go for breakfast afterwards, usually banh mi or chao from a small stall near the beach, and we talk about everything from work stress to silly things that happened during the week.

I enjoy spending time with her because she makes an ordinary weekend morning feel worthwhile. Before I met her, running alone felt like a chore, but now I look forward to Saturdays. She's easy to talk to, she never judges me, and time with her always passes quickly, even though we're just running and eating breakfast.

  • FCtime with her always passes quickly'Time with her always passes quickly' is a short, general closing statement that sums up the friendship in one plain claim without pointing back to any specific moment from the story (the runs, the breakfasts) to justify it. This kind of unsupported but clear summary sentence is typical of Band 6.5 coherence, where a point is stated once rather than tied explicitly to evidence.'Time with her always passes quickly' 是一句简短、笼统的收尾陈述,用一个简单的论断概括了这段友谊,却没有回指故事中任何具体的时刻(跑步、早餐)来加以佐证。这种清晰却缺乏支撑证据的概括句,正是6.5分连贯性的典型表现——一个观点被提出一次,而没有明确地与证据挂钩。
  • LReasy-going and always cheerfulThe sentence adds only one small detail to the character description — that Thao is cheerful 'even early in the morning' — but doesn't say what that cheerfulness actually looks like on a run (a joke, a comment, a particular habit). Staying with a safe, general time phrase rather than a specific behavioural detail is what keeps this description at the plain, unelaborated level Band 6.5 lexical resource is calibrated around.这句话只在性格描写上增添了一个小细节——Thảo 'even early in the morning' 也很开朗——但没有说明这种开朗在跑步时具体表现为什么样子(一句玩笑、一句评论,还是某个特定习惯)。停留在一个安全、笼统的时间短语上,而不是给出具体的行为细节,正是使这段描述维持在6.5分词汇资源所围绕设定的平实、未展开水平的原因。
  • GRAshe is easy-going and always cheerful, even early in the morning, which I am definitely notThe main clause is extended with one relative clause tagged on at the end — 'which I am definitely not' — adding a single layer of self-deprecating contrast without any further subordination. This is a correctly formed but modest piece of complexity, matching Band 6.5's expectation of accurate, basic complex sentences rather than more elaborately combined structures.主句在末尾加上一个关系从句加以扩展——'which I am definitely not'——添加了一层自嘲式的对比,却没有任何进一步的从属结构。这是一处形式正确但程度有限的复杂成分,符合6.5分对基础、准确复杂句的期望,而非更精心组合的结构。

The concrete detail 'he'll happily wait twenty minutes for the light to change' shows personality through action rather than adjectives, and the summarising line about patience and impatience balancing out gives natural, reflective fluency.“他心甘情愿等上二十分钟只为等光线变化”这个具体细节,是通过行动而非形容词来展现性格的,而关于耐心与急躁相互平衡的总结句,则赋予了回答自然、富有反思性的流畅感。

The person I'd like to talk about is Bảo, a photographer I met through a mutual friend at a small exhibition here in Da Nang about a year and a half ago.

We got talking because we were both standing in front of the same photo for way too long, both apparently confused about the same technical detail, and ended up chatting for almost an hour after the event finished. It turned out we lived only a few streets apart, so we exchanged numbers and started meeting up fairly regularly after that.

Bảo is quite a calm, patient person, which is honestly the opposite of me — I tend to rush things, while he'll happily wait twenty minutes for the light to change before taking a single shot. He's also very generous with advice, which I appreciate, since I only picked up photography properly after meeting him.

What we've done together is mostly wander around the city early in the morning with our cameras, usually around the fish market or along the river, before it gets too hot or too crowded. We've also gone on a couple of short trips together, including one to Hoi An last spring where we spent an entire afternoon just photographing doorways, which sounds a bit strange but was actually really enjoyable.

I enjoy spending time with him mainly because he's taught me to slow down and actually notice things, rather than rushing past them the way I usually do. Conversations with him rarely feel like small talk; even a simple walk turns into something worth remembering. Between his patience and my impatience, we somehow balance each other out, and I always come back from time with him feeling calmer than when I left.

  • LRhe'll happily wait twenty minutes for the light to changeInstead of a plain adjective like "patient," the speaker dramatizes the trait with a specific, quantified scenario ("twenty minutes for the light to change") plus the adverb "happily" signalling Bảo's temperament -- concrete, topic-specific detail rather than the generic adjective-listing a 6.5 answer would rely on ("he is patient and kind"). This matches the Band 7.0 lexical target's call for topic-specific vocabulary over plain wording, and shows personality through action rather than description.说话者没有用"patient"这样简单的形容词,而是通过一个具体、量化的情境("twenty minutes for the light to change")加上副词"happily"来暗示Bảo的性情,以戏剧化的方式呈现这一特质——这是具体、切合话题的细节,而非6.5分答案会依赖的笼统形容词罗列("he is patient and kind")。这符合Band 7.0词汇目标对"话题相关词汇优于平淡措辞"的要求,并且通过行动而非描述来展现人物性格。
  • FCBetween his patience and my impatience, we somehow balance each other outThe parallel "Between X and Y" structure condenses the two contrasting traits established earlier (his calm, the speaker's rushing) into one balanced closing reflection, giving the answer the reason-plus-reflection development the Band 7.0 fluency and coherence target wants rather than leaving the contrast unresolved. A 6.5 answer would likely just restate "he is patient and I am not" without drawing a conclusion from it; a 7.5 answer might phrase the balance more figuratively.平行结构"Between X and Y"把前面已经建立起来的两种对立特质(他的沉稳、说话者的匆忙)浓缩成一句平衡的收尾反思,让答案拥有了Band 7.0流利度与连贯性目标所期待的"理由加反思"式展开,而不是让这种对比悬而未决。6.5分的答案很可能只会重复"he is patient and I am not"而不从中得出任何结论;7.5分的答案则可能用更具比喻色彩的方式来表达这种平衡。
  • GRAWe got talking because we were both standing in front of the same photo for way too long, both apparently confused about the same technical detailA because-clause is extended by an appositive participial phrase ("both apparently confused about the same technical detail") that adds a second layer of detail without starting a new sentence -- exactly the "comfortable mix of simple and complex sentences, generally accurate" the Band 7.0 grammar target targets, short of the wider range of structures (cleft sentences, layered relative clauses) reserved for 7.5. The informal "way too long" also keeps the register spoken rather than written.一个"because"从句被一个同位性质的分词短语("both apparently confused about the same technical detail")扩展,补充了第二层细节而无需另起一句——这正是Band 7.0语法目标所瞄准的那种"简单句与复杂句的从容混合,总体准确",尚未达到Band 7.5专属的更宽广结构范围(分裂句、多层定语从句)。非正式的"way too long"也让语域保持口语化,而非书面化。
7.5 分

The figurative claim that 'time with An never feels used up' and the closing contrast with a life 'scheduled in thirty-minute blocks' show the idiomatic lexis and reflective coherence typical of genuine Band 7.5.那句富有比喻色彩的说法——“和阿安在一起的时间从不觉得被'用完'”——以及结尾处与“以三十分钟为单位排满日程”的生活形成的对比,共同展现出真正Band 7.5水准的地道词汇与反思性连贯。

The person I'd choose is An, who was my flatmate for three years at university in Hanoi and who, by pure luck, ended up moving to Da Nang a year after I did. He lives across the river now, about fifteen minutes away on the motorbike, which is close enough that we see each other most weeks.

We met the way flatmates do — a shared ad, a tiny apartment near the university, and an argument in the first week about whose turn it was to buy rice. He's a software engineer, so we're in adjacent worlds, but personality-wise he's the opposite of me: restless, endlessly curious, incapable of sitting through a film without looking something up. He's the kind of person who reads about a bridge and then wants to go and stand under it.

What we do together is mostly ordinary. On Sundays we cook, usually something neither of us knows how to make, with mixed results — the bánh xèo experiment took two attempts and a small fire. We go to a second-hand book market that sets up near Han Market once a month and come home with things we'll never read. Last year we spent a whole afternoon trying to find the highest point in the city you can reach without paying, which turned out to be a car park.

Why I enjoy it is hard to explain without sounding sentimental. I think it's that time with An never feels used up. He asks a question, I have an opinion, and three hours later we're somewhere we didn't plan to be, and I haven't looked at my phone once. Most of my life is scheduled in thirty-minute blocks. He's the one person who makes an afternoon feel like a whole day, in the good sense.

  • LRtime with An never feels used up"Feels used up" applies a collocation normally reserved for resources like fuel or money to time itself, which is a genuinely original, figurative metaphor rather than a stock idiom — exactly the kind of natural but unusual image the 7.5 tier's lexical descriptor is looking for. A 7.0 answer would more likely say something literal like "I never get bored spending time with him." Because the metaphor of time as a finite resource is picked up again later with "scheduled in thirty-minute blocks," this phrase also plants the image the whole closing paragraph is built around, rather than existing in isolation."Feels used up"(感觉被用光了)把一个通常用于燃料或金钱这类资源的搭配,用在了时间本身上,这是一个真正原创、比喻性的意象,而不是一个套话式的习语——正是7.5档位词汇描述所寻找的那种自然却又不寻常的意象。Band 7.0的答案更可能说出像"I never get bored spending time with him"这样字面的话。由于“时间是有限资源”这一隐喻在后文又通过"scheduled in thirty-minute blocks"被再次呼应,这个短语也为整个结尾段落所围绕的意象埋下了伏笔,而不是孤立存在。
  • FCMost of my life is scheduled in thirty-minute blocks. He's the one person who makes an afternoon feel like a whole day, in the good sense. The contrast between a rigidly scheduled life and unstructured time spent with An is a considered, structured comparison rather than a simple statement of enjoyment, and it closes the whole answer on a generalised insight about what the friendship represents. This reflective, evaluative payoff — using the friend as a foil for the speaker's own habits — is what the 7.5 tier means by including "one clear reflective or evaluative point, not just description." A 7.0 answer would be more likely to end with a simpler statement such as "I always enjoy spending time with him." I always enjoy spending time with him."
  • GRAincapable of sitting through a film without looking something upThe negative participial construction "without looking something up" is nested inside an adjective phrase ("incapable of..."), a structure that takes real control to produce accurately and that a 7.0 answer would likely simplify into something like "he always looks things up when he watches films." This kind of layered, varied grammar — building a description through nested phrases rather than a chain of short clauses — is exactly the 7.5 tier's "varied complex structures... mostly error-free" target. It also efficiently packs a specific, characterful detail about An's personality into a single economical phrase.否定分词结构"without looking something up"被嵌套在一个形容词短语("incapable of...")内部,这种结构需要真正的掌控力才能准确产出,而Band 7.0的答案很可能会把它简化成类似"he always looks things up when he watches films"这样的说法。这种层层嵌套、富于变化的语法——通过嵌套短语而非一连串短句来构建描述——正是7.5档位"多样的复杂结构……基本无误"这一目标。它也高效地把一个具体、有个性的关于An的细节,压缩进了一个简洁的短语里。

Strings short clauses together with plain 'and'/'but', and adds new points with flat sentence-starters like 'Also' and 'And'.用平实的'and'/'but'把短句串联起来,并用'Also'和'And'这类平淡的句首连接词来引入新的观点。

I think it's mostly about how a person is born. My sister and I grew up in the same house with the same parents, but she loves to be with people and I get tired after an hour and need to leave. Maybe it's about energy — some people get energy from being with others, and some people lose energy. Also, the way you grow up can change it, like if you move a lot. And your job or family can make you want to be alone more too.

    我认为这主要跟一个人天生的性格有关。我和我姐姐在同一个家里、由同样的父母养大,但她喜欢和人在一起,而我一个小时之后就会累,需要离开。也许这跟能量有关——有些人从和别人相处中获得能量,有些人则会因此消耗能量。另外,成长的方式也会改变这一点,比如经常搬家。还有工作或家庭也可能让人更想独处。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCAlso,The answer leans on plain additive connectors like 'Also' and 'And' to open new sentences, which is clear but repetitive. A 7.0 answer would vary this with a spoken hedge such as 'I'd say', and 7.5 folds the extra point into the same sentence with a dash instead of starting a new one.这个答案依赖'Also'和'And'这类平淡的、附加性的连接词来开启新句子,清晰但有些重复。7.0分的答案会用'I'd say'这类口语化的让步语来变换写法,而7.5分则用破折号把额外的观点并入同一个句子,而不是另起一句。
    • LRget energy from being with othersThe phrasal description is accurate but plain, doing the job without much precision. The 7.0 version upgrades this to 'energised by company', and 7.5 tightens it further to 'charged by company', a more natural, economical collocation.这个短语式的描述准确但平淡,完成了任务却缺乏精确性。7.0分的版本把它升级为'energised by company',7.5分则进一步收紧为'charged by company',这个搭配更自然、更经济。
    • GRAbut she loves to be with people and I get tired after an hour and need to leaveThis long chain of clauses joined by 'and' is correct but monotonous. Higher bands subordinate one half instead, as in the 'while' contrast used at 7.0 and 7.5.这一长串用'and'连接的分句是正确的,但显得单调。更高分数段则把其中一半改为从属结构,比如7.0分和7.5分中使用的'while'对比结构。
    7.0 分

Uses the hedge 'I'd say' to soften a claim and pairs it with the moderately complex 'yet... while' contrast in the second sentence.用让步语'I'd say'来软化一个论断,并在第二句里搭配了中等复杂的'yet... while'对比结构。

Honestly, I think a lot of it comes down to how people are wired. My sister and I grew up in exactly the same house, yet she lights up a room while I quietly slip out after an hour to recharge, and nobody really taught us to be that way. I'd say energy is the key factor — some people are energised by company, others are drained by it, and both are completely normal. Upbringing plays a part too, especially for only children, who often learn to enjoy their own company early. To be fair, circumstances like a stressful job can push almost anyone toward solitude.

    • FCI'd sayThe hedge softens the claim about energy being the key factor, typical of natural spoken fluency at this band. The 6.5 answer states the same idea flatly as 'Maybe it's about energy', while 7.5 drops the hedge entirely for a confident diagnosis.这个让步语软化了“能量是关键因素”这一论断,是这个分数段典型的自然口语流利度的体现。6.5分的答案则用'Maybe it's about energy'这种平铺直叙的方式表达同样的意思,而7.5分完全去掉了让步语,做出一个自信的判断。
    • LRenergised by companyThis collocation is more precise than the 6.5 phrasing 'get energy from being with others'. The 7.5 answer pushes further still with the more vivid 'charged by company'.这个搭配比6.5分的说法'get energy from being with others'更精确。7.5分的答案更进一步,用更生动的'charged by company'来表达。
    • GRAyet she lights up a room while I quietly slip out after an hour to rechargeThe contrast is built with 'yet... while', a moderately complex structure, where 6.5 instead chains simple clauses with 'but... and'. It sits a notch below the 7.5 version's dash-interrupted clause that packs in an extra aside.这个对比用'yet... while'构建,是一种中等复杂的结构,而6.5分则是用'but... and'把简单的分句串联起来。它比7.5分那个用破折号打断、插入了额外补充说明的句子要低一个层次。
    7.5 分

Closes with the reflective 'in the end' and uses the idiomatic verb 'savour' to describe enjoying solitude.以反思性的'in the end'收尾,并用地道的动词'savour'来描述享受独处。

Some of it, I suspect, is simply wiring rather than conscious choice. My sister and I were raised under the same roof by the same parents, and yet she walks into a room and fills it, while I quietly retreat after an hour to recover — nobody taught either of us that instinct. Energy seems to be the real dividing line: some people are charged by company, others are drained by it, and neither is a flaw. Upbringing adds another layer, since only children or those who moved house a lot often learn early to savour solitude. Circumstances matter too — a demanding job or a chaotic household can push even a natural extrovert toward the quiet end of the spectrum. Most of us, in the end, drift somewhere in between.

    • FCMost of us, in the end, drift somewhere in between. The closing line uses 'in the end' as a reflective, evaluative signal that rounds the answer off, something the flatter 6.5 ending lacks. The 7.0 answer gestures at reflection with 'To be fair' mid-answer but doesn't close on the same considered note.结尾用'in the end'作为一种反思性的、带有评价意味的信号,把整个答案收拢起来,而6.5分较平铺直叙的结尾则缺少这一点。7.0分的答案中间用'To be fair'做出了一点反思的姿态,但结尾并没有落在同样深思熟虑的调子上。
    • LRsavour solitudeThis is a deliberately vivid, slightly idiomatic collocation neither lower band attempts; 6.5 just says people 'can change it' and 7.0 says people 'learn to enjoy their own company', which is accurate but plainer.这是一个刻意生动、略带地道色彩的搭配,是两个低分数段都没有尝试的;6.5分只是说人们“能改变这一点”,而7.0分说人们“学会享受自己的陪伴”,虽然准确但更平淡。
    • GRAnobody taught either of us that instinctThis dash-led aside interrupts the main clause to add a compressed observation, a flexible structure the 6.5 answer avoids by using separate short sentences. It is slightly more ambitious than the similar aside at 7.0 because it is folded into a longer 'and yet' contrast rather than standing alone.这句用破折号引出的插入语打断了主句,加入了一个浓缩的观察,这是一种灵活的结构,6.5分的答案通过使用独立的短句而避开了这种写法。它比7.0分类似的插入语更有野心一些,因为它被嵌入到一个更长的'and yet'对比结构里,而不是独立存在。

Marks the sequence of influences with plain time words — 'After that', 'Later' — and a simple 'So' to reach the conclusion.用平实的时间词——'After that'、'Later'——来标示影响的先后顺序,并用简单的'So'来得出结论。

I think parents have the biggest influence, especially when you are young. I still copy the way my grandmother handled angry people — she would wait, smile, and ask a question — and I do the same now with angry clients, because I lived with her until I was eight. After that, friends matter a lot too, especially in the teenage years, because young people copy each other. Later, a partner can slowly change you as well. So for me, family in the early years has the strongest effect.

    我认为父母的影响最大,尤其是在你年幼的时候。我至今还会不自觉地模仿我奶奶应对生气的人的方式——她会先等一等,微笑,然后问一个问题——现在我面对生气的客户时也会这样做,因为我和她一起生活到八岁。在那之后,朋友的影响也很大,尤其是在青少年时期,因为年轻人会互相模仿。再后来,伴侣也会慢慢改变你。所以对我来说,早年的家庭影响是最强烈的。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCAfter that,Plain sequencing markers like 'After that' and 'Later' organise the answer clearly but mechanically. The 7.0 version replaces the first with the more natural spoken 'I'd say close friends come next', and 7.5 uses a semicolon to fuse two stages into one sentence instead of separating them.'After that'和'Later'这类平实的顺序标记把答案组织得清晰,但有些机械。7.0分的版本把第一个换成了更自然、更口语化的'I'd say close friends come next',而7.5分则用分号把两个阶段融合进同一句话,而不是分开来写。
    • LRcopy the wayThe verb 'copy' is repeated for both the grandmother anecdote and the teenage-friends point, which is functional but a little repetitive. The 7.0/7.5 versions vary it with 'handling... exactly the way' and 'by imitation', spreading the vocabulary out.动词'copy'在奶奶的例子和青少年模仿朋友的例子里都用到了,行得通但略显重复。7.0分和7.5分的版本用'handling... exactly the way'和'by imitation'来变换措辞,把词汇分散开来。
    • GRAshe would wait, smile, and ask a questionThis is a simple listed sequence inside dashes. It's the same structure used at 7.0 and 7.5, but the 6.5 sentence around it stays short and coordinated with 'and', whereas 7.5 subordinates it further with 'despite having lived with her only until I was eight'.这是一个用破折号括起来的简单顺序列表。它和7.0分、7.5分用的结构相同,但6.5分周围的句子保持简短,用'and'来协调;而7.5分则用'despite having lived with her only until I was eight'进一步添加了从属结构。
    7.0 分

Opens with the discourse marker 'Honestly' and uses 'I'd say' before the second main point, a typical 7.0 hedging pattern.开头用话语标记'Honestly',并在第二个主要论点前用'I'd say',这是7.0分典型的让步表达方式。

Honestly, parents and whoever raises you in the early years are hard to compete with. I catch myself handling an angry client exactly the way my grandmother handled an angry market trader — wait, smile, ask a question — even though I only lived with her until I was eight. I'd say close friends come next, particularly during the teenage years, because that's when people work out who to be, largely by copying each other.

    • FCI'd sayThe hedge introduces the claim about friends more tentatively than the flat 6.5 statement 'friends matter a lot too'. It's a smaller move than 7.5's confident 'If I had to bet', which frames the same idea as a considered judgement.这个让步语比6.5分平铺直叙的陈述'friends matter a lot too'更犹豫地引出了关于朋友的论断。相比7.5分自信的'If I had to bet',这是一个较小的调整,后者把同样的想法处理成一种经过深思熟虑的判断。
    • LRhard to compete withThis idiomatic phrase for 'clearly the strongest' is more natural than the 6.5 phrasing 'have the biggest influence'. 7.5 goes further with the more literary 'in a league of their own'.这个地道的短语比6.5分的说法'have the biggest influence'更自然,用来表示“明显最强”。7.5分更进一步,用了更具文学色彩的'in a league of their own'。
    • GRAeven though I only lived with her until I was eightThis is a concessive subordinate clause, a step up from the plain 'because' clause used at 6.5 ('because I lived with her until I was eight'). It's slightly less compact than 7.5's 'despite having lived with her only until I was eight', which uses a participle after 'despite'.这是一个让步性的从属分句,比6.5分使用的平实'because'分句('because I lived with her until I was eight')更进一步。它比7.5分的'despite having lived with her only until I was eight'略微不那么紧凑,后者是在'despite'后面直接用分词结构。

Uses the semicolon to link two related stages of life in one sentence and closes with the reflective 'If I had to bet'.用分号把人生中两个相关的阶段连在同一句话里,并以反思性的'If I had to bet'收尾。

Parents, or whoever raises you in the early years, are frankly in a league of their own. I catch myself handling an irate client exactly the way my grandmother handled an angry market trader — wait, smile, ask a question — despite having lived with her only until I was eight. After childhood, close friends probably matter most, especially through the teenage years, when people are essentially deciding who to be, and doing so by imitation. Later, a partner reshapes you more than you'd ever expect, purely through the drip-feed of daily contact; teachers and bosses can matter enormously too, but usually along one narrow dimension. If I had to bet, the strongest influences are the people you never actually chose.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCIf I had to bet,This closing hedge frames the conclusion as a considered judgement rather than a flat statement, going beyond the simple 'So for me' at 6.5 and the more neutral 'I'd say' pattern at 7.0.这个结尾的让步语把结论处理成一种经过深思熟虑的判断,而不是平铺直叙的陈述,超越了6.5分简单的'So for me'和7.0分较中性的'I'd say'模式。
    • LRin a league of their ownThis idiomatic phrase is more vivid than 6.5's plain 'the biggest influence' and slightly more ambitious than 7.0's 'hard to compete with'.这个地道的短语比6.5分平淡的'the biggest influence'更生动,也比7.0分的'hard to compete with'更进一步。
    • GRApurely through the drip-feed of daily contact; teachers and bosses can matter enormously too, but usually along one narrow dimensionThe semicolon joins two related ideas into one flowing sentence instead of starting a new one, which is more compact than the separate sentences used at 6.5 and 7.0 for the same content.分号把两个相关的想法连接成一个流畅的句子,而不是另起一句,比6.5分和7.0分中对同样内容使用的独立句子更紧凑。

Joins short observations with the basic contrast word 'But' at the start of the final sentence.用基本的转折词'But'把简短的观察连接起来,放在最后一句的开头。

People usually become more polite and careful around older people. In Vietnam, this is very common. I once saw my loud colleagues become quiet and polite when an old man, our client's father, walked into the room. They stopped joking and sat up straight. People also listen more and don't tell older people everything, like bad news about a party. Some of this is respect, but some is just acting like a 'good' young person. But if the older person is relaxed, people can become more open instead.

    • FCBut if the older person is relaxed,The exception is introduced with a plain sentence-initial 'But', which works but is a little abrupt. The 7.0 version signals the same shift with 'Interestingly', and 7.5 folds it into a longer sentence built around a dash.这个例外情况是用句首的平实转折词'But'来引出的,行得通但略显突兀。7.0分的版本用'Interestingly'来标示同样的转折,而7.5分则把它并入一个围绕破折号构建的更长句子里。
    • LRacting like a 'good' young personThis is a workable but slightly clumsy paraphrase of 'performing a role'. The 7.0/7.5 versions tighten this to 'a kind of performance' and 'the performance of being a good young person', which reads more naturally.这是对'performing a role'(扮演一个角色)这一意思的一种可行但略显笨拙的转述。7.0分和7.5分的版本把它收紧为'a kind of performance'和'the performance of being a good young person',读起来更自然。
    • GRAThey stopped joking and sat up straight. This is a short, simple sentence with two coordinated verbs. Higher bands compress the same information into one clause inside a longer sentence, as in 'the jokes stopped instantly and everyone sat up straighter'.这是一个用两个并列动词构成的简短、简单的句子。更高分数段把同样的信息压缩进一个更长句子里的一个分句,就像'the jokes stopped instantly and everyone sat up straighter'这样的写法。

Uses 'Honestly' to open and 'Interestingly' to flag the exception, both typical 7.0 spoken-discourse markers.用'Honestly'开头,并用'Interestingly'来标示例外情况,这两者都是7.0分典型的口语化话语标记。

Honestly, people tend to become noticeably more formal, and in Vietnam that shift is hard to miss. I once watched my loudest colleagues turn into polite, softly-spoken versions of themselves the moment our client's elderly father walked in — the jokes stopped instantly and everyone sat up straighter. People also listen more, or at least pretend to, and they quietly edit what they share, since nobody tells their grandmother about last weekend's party. I'd say some of this is genuine respect and some is a kind of performance. Interestingly, when the older person is unusually relaxed, people can end up being more open than they would with their own peers.

    • FCInterestingly,This discourse marker flags the exception case clearly, replacing the blunter 'But' used at 6.5. The 7.5 answer achieves a similar effect without a marker at all, relying instead on the phrase 'the curious exception'.这个话语标记清晰地标示出了例外情况,取代了6.5分中较生硬的'But'。7.5分的答案则不用任何标记就达到了类似的效果,而是依靠'the curious exception'这个短语本身。
    • LRsoftly-spoken versions of themselvesThis phrase is more natural than the plain 'quiet and polite' at 6.5. The 7.5 version pushes further with 'softly-spoken children', a slightly more vivid image.这个短语比6.5分平淡的'quiet and polite'更自然。7.5分的版本更进一步,用了更生动的意象'softly-spoken children'。
    • GRAthe moment our client's elderly father walked inThis reduced time clause ('the moment...') is more economical than the 6.5 full clause 'when an old man... walked into the room'. It's comparable in ambition to 7.5's similar structure but slightly shorter overall.这个被压缩的时间状语从句('the moment...')比6.5分完整的从句'when an old man... walked into the room'更经济。它在野心上和7.5分类似的结构相当,只是整体略短一些。

Uses a semicolon to balance two parallel ideas and closes with a because-clause explaining the exception.用分号平衡了两个并列的解释,并以一个“because”从句来收尾,解释这个例外情况的原因。

People generally become more guarded, and in Vietnam the shift borders on theatrical. I once watched my loudest colleagues turn into polite, softly-spoken children the instant our client's elderly father walked into the room — the language shifted to respectful forms, the jokes evaporated, everyone sat up. People also listen more, or at least perform listening, and they quietly edit what they share, since nobody confesses the weekend's party to their grandmother. Some of this is genuine respect; some is simply the performance of being a good young person. The curious exception is the rare older person who's utterly relaxed — around them, people often open up more than they would with their own peers, precisely because there's no status game left to play.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSome of this is genuine respect; some is simply the performance of being a good young person. The semicolon balances two parallel explanations in one sentence, more compact than the 6.5 version's separate 'Some of this is... but some is...' structure and slightly tighter than 7.0's similar pairing.这个分号在同一句话里平衡了两个并列的解释,比6.5分版本中分开的'Some of this is... but some is...'结构更紧凑,也比7.0分类似的搭配略微更紧凑。
    • LRborders on theatricalThis is a vivid, evaluative collocation well beyond the plain 'very common' at 6.5 and the more neutral 'hard to miss' at 7.0.这是一个远比6.5分平淡的'very common'和7.0分较中性的'hard to miss'更生动、更具评价意味的搭配。
    • GRAprecisely because there's no status game left to playThis because-clause gives an explicit causal explanation for the exception, going further than the simple observation at 6.5 and 7.0, which state the exception without explaining its cause.这个'because'从句为这个例外情况给出了明确的因果解释,比6.5分和7.0分中仅仅陈述例外情况本身、却不解释原因的做法更进一步。

I think managers should trust their staff instead of watching them all the time. My boss always ends our meetings by asking 'What do you need from me?' and then she really does it. This one habit is a big reason I stayed at my job even when other companies offered more money. Managers should also be clear about what they want and honest about how someone is doing. They should be fair, because if they have favourites, the team becomes unhappy. A manager doesn't need to be a friend, though — sometimes they need to say difficult things.

    • FCManagers should also be clear about what they want and honest about how someone is doing. The list of requirements is spelled out in a plain, separate sentence starting with 'also'. The 7.0/7.5 versions fold the same list into one flowing sentence with commas instead, e.g. 'clear about expectations, honest about performance, and fair'.这份要求清单是用一个以'also'开头的平实独立句子讲出来的。7.0分和7.5分的版本则用逗号把同样的清单融进一个流畅的句子里,比如'clear about expectations, honest about performance, and fair'这样的写法。
    • LRwatching them all the timeThis is a functional but slightly clumsy way of saying 'surveillance'. The 7.5 answer uses the more precise, formal noun 'surveillance' itself, a clear step up in register.这是一种可行但略显笨拙的说法,用来表达“监视”这个意思。7.5分的答案直接用了更精确、更正式的名词'surveillance',这是语域上明显的提升。
    • GRAbecause if they have favourites, the team becomes unhappyThis cause-effect is expressed with a simple 'because if... then' pattern. Higher bands compress the same logic into a noun phrase acting as subject, as in 'favouritism poisons morale', which is more economical.这个因果关系是用简单的'because if... then'模式来表达的。更高分数段则把同样的逻辑压缩进一个充当主语的名词短语里,比如'favouritism poisons morale'这样的写法,更加经济。

Honestly, I think managers should treat people as adults who need to be trusted rather than watched. The best thing my boss does is end every one-to-one with 'what do you need from me?' — and then she actually follows through, which is a big reason I stayed at the studio through two better-paid offers. I'd say managers should be clear about expectations, honest about performance, and fair in ways the team can actually see, because favouritism poisons morale faster than almost anything else. To be fair, they should also shield their staff from nonsense coming from above, without trying too hard to be liked.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCTo be fair,This hedge introduces an additional point in a considered, conversational way, replacing the flatter 6.5 sentence starter 'A manager doesn't need to be a friend, though'. It's a smaller move than 7.5's tighter colon structure for the same idea.这个让步语以一种经过思考的、口语化的方式引入了一个补充观点,取代了6.5分较平淡的句首'A manager doesn't need to be a friend, though'。相比7.5分用冒号来表达同样想法的更紧凑结构,这是一个较小的调整。
    • LRpoisons moraleThis is a vivid, idiomatic verb choice for 'badly damages', clearly above the plain 6.5 phrasing 'the team becomes unhappy'. The 7.5 version reuses a close variant, 'poisons a team', showing the same lexical upgrade.这是一个生动、地道的动词选择,用来表达“严重损害”,明显高于6.5分平淡的说法'the team becomes unhappy'。7.5分的版本重复使用了一个非常接近的变体'poisons a team',说明这种词汇上的升级是一致的。
    • GRAclear about expectations, honest about performance, and fair in ways the team can actually seeThis is a parallel triple structure joined by commas, more sophisticated than the 6.5 version's two separate sentences for the same content. It's matched in ambition by 7.5's very similar triple, 'transparent about expectations, candid about performance, and visibly fair'.这是一个用逗号连接的三项并列结构,比6.5分版本中用两个独立句子表达同样内容更精巧。7.5分中非常相似的三项并列'transparent about expectations, candid about performance, and visibly fair'与之野心相当。

The single best habit my boss has is ending every one-to-one with 'what do you need from me?' — and then genuinely delivering on it, which alone has kept me at the studio through two better-paid offers elsewhere. They should be transparent about expectations, candid about performance, and visibly fair, since favouritism poisons a team faster than almost anything. A good manager also runs interference, shielding staff from nonsense filtering down from above. What they shouldn't be is a friend: a manager too eager to be liked tends to dodge the difficult conversations that are, in the end, the actual job.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCWhat they shouldn't be is a friend:The colon sets up the closing judgement directly, a more compact device than the softer 6.5 phrase 'A manager doesn't need to be a friend, though' or the 7.0 hedge 'To be fair'.这个冒号直接引出结尾的判断,比6.5分较柔和的说法'A manager doesn't need to be a friend, though'或7.0分的让步语'To be fair'更紧凑。
    • LRruns interferenceThis idiomatic phrase for 'protects proactively' is more vivid than the plain 6.5 verb 'protect' and slightly more colourful than 7.0's 'shield'.这个地道的短语用来表达“主动保护”,比6.5分平淡的动词'protect'更生动,也比7.0分的'shield'略微更有色彩。
    • GRAa manager too eager to be liked tends to dodge the difficult conversations that are, in the end, the actual jobThis sentence nests a relative clause ('that are... the actual job') inside a parenthetical aside ('in the end'), a denser structure than the simpler cause-effect sentences used at 6.5 and 7.0 for the same idea.这句话把一个定语从句('that are... the actual job')嵌套在一个插入语('in the end')里面,比6.5分和7.0分中用于表达同样想法的更简单的因果句结构更紧凑。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo the people we spend most time with are usually not the people we would chooseThe conclusion is signalled with a plain 'So', a functional but basic connector. The 7.0 version upgrades this to 'So the honest answer is that...', adding a small evaluative frame around the same idea.这个结论用平实的'So'来标示,这是一个可行但基础的连接词。7.0分的版本把它升级为'So the honest answer is that...',在同样的想法周围加上了一个小小的评价性框架。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI'd say,This mid-sentence hedge softens the claim about the online layer, a more natural spoken device than the plain 6.5 sentence 'For children, it's classmates and teachers'. Signals the caveat with a plain 'But' and ends on a short, simple comparison sentence.用平实的'But'来标示这个提醒,并以一句简短、简单的比较句收尾。

I strongly agree. I learned more about how a hospital really works from a few coffees with a nurse friend than from months of work research, because she has lived it. If you only spend time with people like yourself — same job, same age, same opinions — your idea of 'normal' becomes too narrow. Different people also make you explain your ideas, which helps you think better. But I think it should be a real friendship, not just collecting different kinds of friends for show. One real friendship matters more than many polite conversations.

    • FCBut I think it should be a real friendship,The caution is introduced with a basic 'But', which is clear but blunt. The 7.0 version frames the same caution more deliberately with 'I'd just add one caution:', and 7.5 tightens this further into 'The one caveat is that...'.这个提醒是用基本的'But'引出的,清晰但生硬。7.0分的版本用'I'd just add one caution:'更经过思考地引出了同样的提醒,而7.5分则把它进一步收紧为'The one caveat is that...'。
    • LRyour idea of 'normal' becomes too narrowThis is a workable but slightly informal way of describing a cognitive limitation. The 7.0/7.5 versions use the more precise verb phrase 'narrows your sense of what's normal', which reads more naturally in academic-leaning speech.这是一种可行但略显口语化的说法,用来描述一种认知上的局限。7.0分和7.5分的版本都用了更精确的动词短语'narrows your sense of what's normal',这在偏学术性的口语表达中听起来更自然。
    • GRAOne real friendship matters more than many polite conversations. This closing comparison is a short, simple sentence. The 7.5 version expands the same comparison with a semicolon and the more specific phrase 'across a divide... a dozen polite conversations', adding detail within one sentence.这个结尾的比较是一个简短、简单的句子。7.5分的版本用分号和更具体的短语'across a divide... a dozen polite conversations'扩展了同样的比较,在一句话里加入了更多细节。

Uses 'simply because' to give a tighter reason and a colon to introduce the closing caution.用'simply because'给出一个更紧凑的原因,并用冒号引出结尾的提醒。

I strongly agree, and I have a clear example. I learnt more about how a hospital actually runs from a few coffees with a nurse friend than from months of formal research for clients, simply because she'd lived it while my clients had only described it. Spending time only with people like yourself — same job, same age, similar opinions — narrows your sense of what's normal until you stop noticing your own assumptions. Different people also force you to explain yourself, which is honestly where real thinking happens. I'd just add one caution: it has to be genuine time, not collecting diverse acquaintances like a project.

    • FCI'd just add one caution:The colon signals an upcoming clarification in a controlled way, more deliberate than the plain 'But' at 6.5. It's slightly less compact than 7.5's parallel phrase 'The one caveat is that...', which achieves the same function with fewer words.这个冒号以一种有控制力的方式预示着即将到来的说明,比6.5分平实的'But'更经过思考。它比7.5分的平行短语'The one caveat is that...'略微不那么紧凑,后者用更少的词达到了同样的功能。
    • LRnarrows your sense of what's normalThis verb phrase is more precise than the 6.5 wording 'your idea of normal becomes too narrow'. The 7.5 answer reuses the same core phrase, showing it's already pitched at a higher band.这个动词短语比6.5分的说法'your idea of normal becomes too narrow'更精确。7.5分的答案重复使用了同样的核心短语,说明它已经处于更高分数段的水准上。
    • GRAsimply because she'd lived it while my clients had only described itThis 'while' contrast clause compresses two related facts into one sentence, more economical than treating them as separate ideas. It's very close to the 7.5 structure but 7.5 adds the word 'secondhand' for extra precision.这个'while'对比从句把两个相关的事实压缩进一句话里,比把它们当作两个独立想法来处理更经济。它和7.5分的结构非常接近,只是7.5分加了'secondhand'一词以求更精确。

Uses a semicolon to attach a punchy final comparison rather than starting a new sentence.用分号连接了一句有力的结尾比较,而不是另起一句。

I strongly agree, and I have a fairly concrete example. I learnt more about how a hospital actually functions from a few coffees with a nurse friend than from months of formal client research, simply because she'd lived it while my clients could only describe it secondhand. Spending time exclusively with people like yourself — same job, same age, the same opinions on repeat — narrows your sense of what's normal until your own assumptions become invisible to you. Different people also force you to explain yourself, which is precisely where real thinking happens. The one caveat is that it has to be genuine time, not diverse acquaintances collected like trophies; one honest friendship across a divide outweighs a dozen polite conversations.

    • FCThe one caveat is that it has to be genuine time,This phrase introduces the caution more crisply than the 6.5 'But' and slightly more economically than 7.0's 'I'd just add one caution:'.这个短语比6.5分的'But'更简洁地引出了这个提醒,也比7.0分的'I'd just add one caution:'更经济一些。
    • LRcollected like trophiesThis is a vivid, slightly idiomatic image for insincere collecting of acquaintances, going beyond the plain 6.5 phrase 'for show' and the more neutral 7.0 phrase 'like a project'.这是一个生动、略带地道色彩的意象,用来形容不真诚地收集人脉,超越了6.5分平淡的说法'for show'和7.0分较中性的说法'like a project'。
    • GRAone honest friendship across a divide outweighs a dozen polite conversationsThis final clause is attached with a semicolon rather than starting a new sentence, and uses the verb 'outweighs' to compress a comparison that the 6.5 version needs a full separate sentence to express.这个结尾分句用分号连接,而不是另起一句,并用动词'outweighs'压缩了一个比较,而6.5分的版本需要用一整个独立句子才能表达同样的意思。

States the exception in a short separate sentence beginning 'The exception is...'.用一个简短、独立的句子来陈述这个例外情况,句首为'The exception is...'。

I agree, and it usually happens without people deciding to. I was once in a meeting where a wealthy client made three weak jokes and the whole room laughed at each one, but when I made a better joke, there was silence. It wasn't planned flattery — his presence just changed the mood. People also stand straighter and agree faster around important people, partly from self-interest and partly an old instinct about status. The exception is people who've been around wealth so long they're no longer impressed by it.

    • FCIt wasn't planned flatteryThe idea is expressed as a short, direct negative statement. The 7.0/7.5 versions expand this into a fuller contrastive clause, 'not because anyone decided to flatter him, but because...', which links cause and effect more explicitly.这个想法是用一个简短、直接的否定句表达出来的。7.0分和7.5分的版本把它扩展成一个更完整的对比分句,'not because anyone decided to flatter him, but because...',更明确地把因果联系起来。
    • LRchanged the moodThis is a simple, slightly vague way of describing the social effect. The 7.5 version upgrades this to the more precise, almost literary 'shifting the room's temperature', a stronger image for the same idea.这是一种简单、略显模糊的说法,用来描述这种社会效应。7.5分的版本把它升级为更精确、近乎文学化的'shifting the room's temperature',这个意象对同样的想法而言更有力。
    • GRAPeople also stand straighter and agree faster around important people, partly from self-interest and partly an old instinct about status. This packs two reasons into one sentence with 'partly... and partly', which is already reasonably complex. The 7.5 version adds a semicolon before this same contrast, integrating it with a preceding list rather than starting fresh.这句话用'partly... and partly'把两个原因压缩进一句话里,已经算是相当复杂的了。7.5分的版本在这个对比前面加了一个分号,把它和前面的列表整合在一起,而不是重新起头。

Uses the dash for a contrastive explanation and a colon to introduce the named exception.用破折号引出一个对比性的解释,并用冒号引出这个被点名的例外情况。

I agree, and honestly it seems to happen involuntarily. I once sat in a meeting where a very wealthy client made three fairly weak jokes and the whole room laughed at each one, and then I made a decent joke and got silence — not because anyone decided to flatter him, but because his presence simply changed the temperature of the room. People stand straighter, agree faster, and steer the conversation toward what the important person wants to discuss. I'd say it's partly self-interest and partly a deep instinct about status. To be fair, there's an exception: people who've been around wealth or fame long enough to be bored by it.

    • FCTo be fair, there's an exception:The colon sets up the exception in a controlled, deliberate way, more developed than the blunt 6.5 sentence starter 'The exception is'. The 7.5 version achieves a similar effect without the colon, relying on the phrase 'The interesting exception is' instead.这个冒号以一种受控的、经过思考的方式引出了这个例外情况,比6.5分中生硬的句首'The exception is'更成熟。7.5分的版本不用冒号也达到了类似的效果,而是依靠短语'The interesting exception is'。
    • LRbored by itThis casual but precise phrase captures a subtle social state economically. The 7.5 version intensifies it slightly to 'thoroughly unimpressed by it', a marginally more formal register.这个随意但精准的短语经济地捕捉到了一种微妙的社交状态。7.5分的版本把它稍稍加强为'thoroughly unimpressed by it',语域略微更正式。
    • GRAnot because anyone decided to flatter him, but because his presence simply changed the temperature of the roomThis 'not because... but because' structure explicitly contrasts two possible causes, a more sophisticated move than the flat 6.5 statement 'It wasn't planned flattery'. It closely matches the 7.5 structure but without the added dash-led aside 'just his presence quietly shifting the room's temperature'.这个'not because... but because'结构明确地对比了两种可能的原因,比6.5分平铺直叙的陈述'It wasn't planned flattery'更成熟。它和7.5分的结构非常接近,只是没有加上后面用破折号插入的补充说明'just his presence quietly shifting the room's temperature'。

Adds a dash-led aside at the end to extend the point about the exception without starting a new sentence.在结尾加上了一句用破折号引出的补充说明,进一步扩展关于例外情况的这一点,而不需要另起一句。

I agree, and what strikes me is how involuntary it is. I once sat in a meeting where a very wealthy client cracked three distinctly weak jokes and the whole room laughed at each one, and then I made a genuinely decent one and got silence — not calculated flattery, just his presence quietly shifting the room's temperature. People stand straighter, agree faster, and steer conversation toward whatever the important person wants to talk about; it's part self-interest, part a deep-rooted instinct about status. The interesting exception is people who've been around wealth or fame long enough to be thoroughly unimpressed by it — and they're often the only ones the rich person actually enjoys talking to.

    • FCwhat strikes me is how involuntary it isThis reflective opening frames the whole answer around a personal observation, a more developed device than the flat 6.5 opening 'it usually happens without people deciding to' and the simpler 7.0 version 'honestly it seems to happen involuntarily'.这个反思性的开头围绕一个个人观察构建了整个答案,比6.5分平铺直叙的开头'it usually happens without people deciding to'和7.0分更简单的版本'honestly it seems to happen involuntarily'更成熟。
    • LRshifting the room's temperatureThis is a vivid, almost literary metaphor for a subtle social effect, clearly beyond the plain 6.5 phrase 'changed the mood' and a step past 7.0's near-identical but less polished 'changed the temperature of the room'.这是一个生动、近乎文学化的比喻,用来描述一种微妙的社交效应,明显超越了6.5分平淡的说法'changed the mood',也比7.0分几乎相同但略显欠打磨的'changed the temperature of the room'更进一步。
    • GRAand they're often the only ones the rich person actually enjoys talking toThis dash-led clause extends the sentence with an additional observation instead of starting a new one, a more flexible structure than the separate final sentence used at 6.5 and 7.0 for the same idea.这个用破折号引出的分句用来扩展句子、补充一个额外的观察,而不是另起一句,比6.5分和7.0分中对同样想法使用独立结尾句的做法更灵活。

Marks the qualified disagreement with the simple phrase 'at least about personality' and lists shared values with a plain dash.用简短的短语'at least about personality'来标示这个有保留的不同意,并用平实的破折号列出共同的价值观。

I disagree, at least about personality. My parents have been married for thirty-two years, and my father says maybe forty words a day while my mother talks about everything she does out loud. They are very different, but it works well. I think what they share is values — like what money is for and how to treat family — and that is what really matters. Similar personalities can be nice at first but boring later, or they can clash in the same way. Different personalities can actually balance each other out if the values match.

    • FCThey are very different, but it works well. This contrast is expressed as a short, simple sentence with 'but'. The 7.0/7.5 versions fold the same contrast into a longer sentence using a dash and 'and yet', which reads as more fluent and connected.这个对比是用一个带有'but'的简单句子表达的。7.0分和7.5分的版本用破折号和'and yet'把同样的对比融进一个更长的句子里,读起来更流畅、更连贯。
    • LRwhat really mattersThis is a plain, slightly vague way of naming the key factor. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace it with the more precise, evaluative phrase 'the real predictor of success', which sounds more like a considered judgement.这是一种平淡、略显模糊的方式,用来指出关键因素。7.0分和7.5分的版本把它换成了更精确、更具评价意味的短语'the real predictor of success',听起来更像是一个经过深思熟虑的判断。
    • GRASimilar personalities can be nice at first but boring later, or they can clash in the same way. This sentence uses a simple 'but' and 'or' to link two possibilities. Higher bands intensify the parallelism with repeated phrasing, as in 7.5's 'clash in identical ways at identical moments', which is grammatically more ambitious.这句话用简单的'but'和'or'把两种可能性连接起来。更高分数段用重复的措辞加强了并列效果,比如7.5分的'clash in identical ways at identical moments',语法上更有野心。

I disagree, at least when it comes to personality itself. My parents have been married for thirty-two years, and my father says perhaps forty words a day while my mother narrates everything she does out loud — they're wildly different people, and somehow it works. What they actually share, I'd say, is values: what money is for, how to treat family, what counts as a good life, and that seems to be the real predictor of success. Similar personalities can be easy at first and then dull, or clash in exactly the same way at exactly the same time. To be fair, different personalities cover each other's blind spots, as long as the values line up.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI'd say,This hedge is inserted mid-sentence to soften the claim about shared values, a more natural spoken device than the flat 6.5 statement 'I think what they share is values'. It's a smaller move than 7.5's similarly placed but slightly bolder 'I'd argue'.这个让步语插入在句中,软化了关于共同价值观的论断,比6.5分平铺直叙的陈述'I think what they share is values'更自然、更口语化。相比7.5分中位置相似但略微更大胆的'I'd argue',这是一个较小的调整。
    • LRthe real predictor of successThis evaluative noun phrase is more precise than the vague 6.5 phrase 'what really matters'. The 7.5 answer reuses this exact phrasing, confirming it's already pitched at the higher band.这个评价性名词短语比6.5分模糊的短语'what really matters'更精确。7.5分的答案重复使用了完全一样的表达,确认它已经处在更高分数段的水准上。
    • GRAthey're wildly different people, and somehow it worksThis clause is attached to the previous one with a dash rather than a full stop, more fluent than the 6.5 version's separate sentence 'They are very different, but it works well.' It's matched closely by 7.5's parallel 'wildly mismatched people, and yet it works', which uses 'yet' for a slightly sharper contrast.这个分句用破折号而不是句号接在前一句上,比6.5分的独立句'They are very different, but it works well.'更流畅。它和7.5分平行的'wildly mismatched people, and yet it works'非常接近,后者用'yet'达到了略微更犀利的对比效果。

Similar personalities can feel effortless at first and then dull, or clash in identical ways at identical moments. Different personalities, provided the values line up, tend to cover each other's blind spots instead. Similarity of temperament is comfortable; similarity of direction is essential.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSimilarity of temperament is comfortable; similarity of direction is essential. This closing sentence balances two abstract noun phrases across a semicolon, a much more compact device than the fuller comparative sentences used at 6.5 and 7.0 to make a similar final point.这句结尾用分号把两个抽象名词短语平衡在一起,比6.5分和7.0分中用来表达类似最终观点的更完整的比较句紧凑得多。
    • LRwildly mismatched peopleThis is a punchier, more vivid phrase than the plain 6.5 description 'very different' and slightly sharper than 7.0's 'wildly different people'.这是一个比6.5分平淡的描述'very different'更有力、更生动的短语,也比7.0分的'wildly different people'略微更犀利。
    • GRADifferent personalities, provided the values line up, tend to cover each other's blind spots instead. The condition 'provided the values line up' is inserted as a parenthetical in the middle of the sentence rather than added afterwards, a more flexible structure than the 6.5 version's trailing 'if' clause at the end of the sentence.条件从句'provided the values line up'被插入到句子中间作为插入语,而不是像6.5分那样放在句末作为一个拖尾的'if'从句,这展现出更灵活的结构。

If I skip it for two weeks, I get irritable without knowing why. Time alone lets people think about what happened to them, instead of just following what the group thinks. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCIt's also when creative ideas often come. This point is given its own short, simple sentence. The 7.0/7.5 versions attach the same idea to the previous sentence instead, using 'and' or a comma, which reads as more connected and less list-like.这一点是用一个独立的简短句子表达的。7.0分和7.5分的版本则用'and'或逗号把同样的想法接到前一句上,读起来更连贯、不那么像列表。
    • LRTime alone lets people think about what happened to themThe verb 'lets' is functional but plain. The 7.0/7.5 versions replace it with the more precise phrase 'is where people process', a noun-based construction that sounds more considered.动词'lets'虽然管用但比较平淡。7.0分和7.5分的版本换成了更精确的短语'is where people process',用名词化的结构听起来更经过深思熟虑。
    • GRAIf I skip it for two weeks, I get irritable without knowing why. This is a simple conditional sentence with 'if... I get'. The 7.5 version embeds the same conditional inside a longer sentence introduced by a dash, joining it directly to the description of the Tuesday ritual.这是一个用'if... I keep Tuesday evenings empty now — no plans, just a motorbike ride to the beach and nobody to talk to — and if I skip it for two weeks I become irritable without quite knowing why. Time alone is where people process what's happened to them and remember what they actually think, as opposed to what the group thinks. It's also where most creative work happens, in my experience. The amount people need varies enormously, but I've never met anyone who was better for having none at all.

    • FCI speak as someone who had to learn it the hard way. This reflective aside frames the speaker's authority on the topic, a more developed opening move than the flat 6.5 statement 'I had to learn this myself'. It's matched almost exactly by the 7.5 version, showing this phrasing already suits the higher band.这句反思性的补充说明为说话者在这个话题上的权威性提供了框架,比6.5分平铺直叙的陈述'I had to learn this myself'更有发展性。7.5分的版本几乎完全采用了相同的说法,说明这种表达方式已经适合更高的分数段。
    • LRprocess what's happened to themThis verb phrase is more precise than the plain 6.5 wording 'think about what happened to them'. The 7.5 answer reuses the identical phrase, confirming its suitability at the top band.这个动词短语比6.5分平淡的说法'think about what happened to them'更精确。7.5分的答案沿用了完全一样的短语,确认它适合最高分数段。
    • GRAno plans, just a motorbike ride to the beach and nobody to talk to — and if I skip it for two weeks I become irritable without quite knowing whyThis sentence chains a listed description with a dash into a following conditional clause, a longer and more integrated structure than the 6.5 version's two separate sentences for the same content.这句话用破折号把一段列举式的描述和后面的条件从句串联成一体,比6.5分把同样内容拆成两个独立句子的做法更长、更整合。
    7.5 分

Closes with a short fragment 'Very important, I'd say' before the main clause, and ends on a generalising final sentence.在主句前用一个简短的片段'Very important, I'd say'收尾,并以一句概括性的结尾句作结。

Very important, I'd say, and I speak as someone who had to learn it the hard way. I now keep Tuesday evenings deliberately empty — no plans, a motorbike ride to the beach, nobody to talk to — and if I skip it for a fortnight I turn irritable without quite knowing why. Time alone is where people process what's happened to them and remember what they actually think, as distinct from what the group thinks, and it's where most creative work quietly gets done. The right dose varies enormously from person to person, yet I've never met anyone who was better off having none. A life with no solitude, in the end, is a life lived entirely in reaction.

    • FCVery important, I'd say, and I speak as someone who had to learn it the hard way.The answer opens with a fronted adjective phrase before the subject, a more stylistically confident opening than the full 'I think it's very important' sentence at 6.5 or the 'Honestly, I'd say' opener at 7.0.这个答案在主语前用一个提前的形容词短语开头,比6.5分完整的句子'I think it's very important'或7.0分的'Honestly, I'd say'开头在文体上更自信。
    • LRA life with no solitude, in the end, is a life lived entirely in reaction. This closing line uses the abstract, evaluative phrase 'lived entirely in reaction', which is more idiomatic and reflective than the plain 6.5 closing 'better off having none' or the near-identical but shorter 7.0 ending.这句结尾使用了抽象、评价性的短语'lived entirely in reaction',比6.5分平淡的结尾'better off having none'或7.0分几乎相同但更短的结尾更具地道色彩、更有反思意味。
    • GRAThe right dose varies enormously from person to person, yet I've never met anyone who was better off having none. The two clauses are joined by 'yet' to create a single flowing contrast, slightly more integrated than the 6.5 version's similar but shorter 'but' sentence.这两个分句用'yet'连接成一个流畅的对比,比6.5分类似但更短的'but'句略微更整合。
