Reasons are given directly and simply ('I found his work really interesting, because...') with correct but basic causal linking, characteristic of Band 6.5.

A person I would like to meet is Mr. Hoang Dao Kinh, an architect who has spent his career restoring old buildings and temples in Hue, my hometown. I think he must be around eighty years old now, since he has been working since before I was born.

I first heard about him from my parents, who told me stories about how he helped repair some of the old temples near our house after they were damaged. Later, I read a short article about his work online, and I also saw some of his restoration projects when I visited Hue last year. As a designer myself, I found his work really interesting, because he manages to keep old buildings looking authentic while still making them safe and usable today.

I would love to meet him in person and ask him questions about his projects, especially how he decides what to keep and what to change when he restores an old building. I think this is similar to what I do at work sometimes, just on a much bigger scale. Meeting someone who has protected so much of my hometown's history would be really meaningful to me, and I think I could learn a lot from his experience.

  • GRAI think he must be around eighty years old now, since he has been working since before I was born. The modal 'must be' expresses a deduction about the architect's age, followed by a single 'since' clause giving the reason — he's been working since before the speaker was born. One basic causal subordinator used accurately is consistent with the Band 6.5 grammar target — correct, but limited to the small set of connectors (because/when/since) named at that level.
  • LRI found his work really interesting, because he manages to keep old buildings looking authentic while still making them safe and usable todayThe reasoning connecting authenticity to safety is logically sound — 'manages to keep old buildings looking authentic while still making them safe and usable' — but it's expressed entirely through common, everyday verbs and adjectives rather than more specific architectural vocabulary. This shows that the quality of the reasoning and the range of vocabulary are separate things: the Band 6.5 lexical ceiling limits the words available even when the idea itself is clear and well-formed.把"原真性"与"安全性"联系起来的推理在逻辑上是站得住脚的——'manages to keep old buildings looking authentic while still making them safe and usable'——但它完全是通过常见、日常的动词和形容词来表达的,而不是更专业的建筑词汇。
  • FCI think I could learn a lot from his experience.'I think I could learn a lot from his experience' closes the answer with a general statement of expected benefit, without specifying what exactly might be learned from the architect's restoration work. Ending on this kind of unelaborated closing line, rather than naming a specific lesson, matches the Band 6.5 fluency target of stopping once one point has been made.'I think I could learn a lot from his experience'以一句关于预期收获的笼统陈述为答案收尾,没有具体说明究竟能从建筑师的修复工作中学到什么。

The phrase 'a useful reset for me' is a natural, slightly flexible collocation, and the sentence combining a relative clause with a participial phrase shows accurate complex-sentence control without the extra polish of Band 7.5.

Someone I'd really like to meet is a calligrapher named Ông Tùng, who's well known around the Citadel area in Hue for his traditional thư pháp writing. I'm not sure exactly how old he is, but I'd guess somewhere around seventy, based on the photos I've seen of him.

I actually don't know him personally — I first came across his work a few years ago, when my parents bought one of his calligraphy scrolls as a Tet gift, and I've since seen a short documentary about him and followed a page dedicated to his work online. As someone who works in design, I find his sense of composition really impressive, especially how he balances the empty space around each character so it still feels complete.

What makes me want to meet him in person is mainly his patience and the way he seems to treat every piece as something worth taking real time over, which is quite different from how I usually work, rushing between client deadlines. I'd love to sit with him for an afternoon, maybe at a small tea stall near the Citadel, and ask how he decides what to write for someone he's never met before, or how he kept practising through years when digital design and printing made his craft feel a bit old-fashioned to some people.

I think meeting him would remind me that good design doesn't always need to be fast, and that there's something valuable in doing one thing carefully rather than many things quickly. Given how much of my own work depends on speed and deadlines, hearing his perspective would probably be a useful reset for me.

  • GRAwhich is quite different from how I usually work, rushing between client deadlinesThe relative clause 'which is quite different from how I usually work' is extended by a trailing participial phrase, 'rushing between client deadlines', adding a second layer of detail onto the comparison in one sentence. That combination pushes slightly beyond the single relative-clause pattern typical of Band 7.0 toward the kind of layered structure a 7.5 answer would use, while staying accurate and natural throughout.定语从句'which is quite different from how I usually work'被后面跟着的分词短语'rushing between client deadlines'加以扩展,在一句话中为这个比较增添了第二层细节。
  • LRhow he balances the empty space around each character so it still feels complete'How he balances the empty space around each character so it still feels complete' uses the topic-specific collocation 'balances the empty space', vocabulary drawn directly from calligraphy and design rather than generic description. This is the 'few flexible or topic-specific' words the Band 7.0 lexical target calls for, grounded in the speaker's own design background mentioned earlier in the answer.'How he balances the empty space around each character so it still feels complete'使用了具有话题特色的搭配'balances the empty space',这是直接来自书法和设计领域的词汇,而非笼统的描述。
  • LRhearing his perspective would probably be a useful reset for me'A useful reset' is a collocation one step above plain wording — more specific than 'would help me' but not fully idiomatic or unusual — describing what meeting the calligrapher would do for the speaker's own fast-paced work. This sits precisely at the Band 7.0 lexical target: flexible and natural, without reaching for anything showy.'A useful reset'是一个比朴素措辞高出一档的搭配——比'would help me'更具体,但还没有完全达到习语化或不寻常的程度——描述了与书法家见面会为说话人自己那种快节奏的工作带来什么。

The long, layered question in the third paragraph strings together two subordinate clauses fluently, and the precise adjective 'timeless' shows the more selective lexical choices typical of Band 7.5.

One person I would really like to meet in person is Professor Tran Van Khoi. He's a well-known Vietnamese graphic designer, and I think he's in his mid-seventies now, maybe around seventy-five. I first heard about him during my university days in Hanoi-his textbooks on layout and visual storytelling were kind of a staple for every design student. Even now, I sometimes look up his interviews on YouTube or read articles about his creative process when I get stuck on a project at work.

What really inspires me about Professor Khoi is how he managed to blend traditional Vietnamese motifs with modern design principles, especially back in the eighties and nineties when the whole digital design scene was just starting here. His posters for the Hue Festival are actually still displayed in some cafes in my hometown, and I always notice how timeless they look. I admire not just his technical skill, but also the way he talks about staying curious and open to change, even as technology keeps evolving.

Honestly, I'd love to sit down with him-maybe over cà phê sữa đá near the Han River-and hear some stories about his early career. I want to ask him how he keeps his creativity fresh after so many years, and if he has any advice for younger designers like me who're trying to find our own style. I think meeting someone with that much experience, who's seen so many changes in the design world, would really motivate me to keep pushing myself and learning new things.

  • LRHis posters for the Hue Festival are actually still displayed in some cafes in my hometown, and I always notice how timeless they look.'Timeless' is a more specific, judgement-laden word than a generic alternative like 'nice' or 'old' would be — it makes a claim about the posters' enduring quality across decades, not just their age, which is exactly the kind of 'precise or less-common word' the Band 7.5 lexical target asks for over the plainer vocabulary a 6.5 or 7.0 answer would default to. The word choice also does double duty here, linking directly to the speaker's stated reason for admiring Professor Khoi: that his eighties- and nineties-era design still holds up decades later. Using 'timeless' instead of simply 'good' turns a passing observation into a small piece of evidence for the larger argument about the designer's lasting relevance.'Timeless'是一个比泛泛的替代词(如'nice'或'old')更具体、更带评判意味的词——它主张的是这些海报跨越数十年依然保持的持久品质,而不仅仅是它们的年代久远,这正是7.5分词汇目标所要求的那种"精准或不常见的词",胜过6.5分或7.0分答案默认会用的更平实的词汇。
  • GRAI want to ask him how he keeps his creativity fresh after so many years, and if he has any advice for younger designers like me who're trying to find our own styleThe sentence strings together an indirect question ('how he keeps his creativity fresh'), a coordinated second indirect question ('if he has any advice'), and a relative clause modifying 'designers' ('who're trying to find our own style'), all inside a single breath without losing grammatical control. Managing that many layered clauses accurately, rather than breaking the thought into two or three shorter sentences, is the wider grammatical range the Band 7.5 target calls for; a 7.0 or 6.5 answer would more likely ask one simple question and stop. Because both questions genuinely follow from what the speaker just said about Khoi's career, the length reads as natural curiosity rather than a grammar showcase.这句话把一个间接疑问句('how he keeps his creativity fresh')、一个并列的第二个间接疑问句('if he has any advice'),以及一个修饰'designers'的关系从句('who're trying to find our own style')全部串联在一口气里,却没有失去语法上的掌控。
  • FCI think meeting someone with that much experience, who's seen so many changes in the design world, would really motivate me to keep pushing myself and learning new things.Rather than simply restating admiration for Professor Khoi, the closing sentence projects forward to what a hypothetical meeting would do for the speaker personally — 'would really motivate me to keep pushing myself' — turning description of an admired figure into a reflection on the speaker's own growth. That forward-looking, self-referential evaluation is the fully developed reflective point the Band 7.5 fluency and coherence target expects, in contrast to a 6.5 answer that would likely stop at 'I really admire him.' The relative clause 'who's seen so many changes in the design world' also folds in a summary of everything the answer has described about Khoi's career, closing the whole response rather than just adding one more fact. 关系从句'who's seen so many changes in the design world'还把整段回答此前描述Khoi职业生涯的内容都收拢概括进来,为整个回答画上句号,而不只是再添一条事实。

States the opinion plainly and describes Mr. Bao's advice simply, using safe, common phrasing throughout.

I think there's a lot both young and old people can learn from each other if they're open-minded. For example, last year our office invited a retired software developer named Mr. Bao to talk about the history of UI design. He was in his late sixties, and I was surprised by how much practical advice he had for dealing with client feedback and difficult teams. I think younger people can learn from their experience and calmness under pressure. On the other hand, older people can learn new tech skills from us. At that session, I showed Mr. Bao how to use Figma, and he was very interested.

    • FCI think there's a lot both young and old people can learn from each other if they're open-minded.A plain direct claim, less conditional or reflective than 7.5's 'provided neither side assumes it already has nothing left to learn'.一个朴素、直接的论断,不像7.5版本的 'provided neither side assumes it already has nothing left to learn' 那样带有条件性或反思性。

Opens with a conditional 'provided neither side assumes...' framing and closes with a complex sentence about the exchange 'breaking down'.

I'd say the learning genuinely runs both ways, provided neither side assumes it already has nothing left to learn. Last year, our office invited a retired software developer, Mr. Bao, probably in his late sixties, to talk through the history of UI design, and what struck me wasn't the history lesson so much as his practical wisdom - the calm, almost unbothered way he handled talk of client feedback and difficult teams, something that took me years of trial and error to even approach. In return, I showed him how to prototype quickly in Figma, and watching someone his age lean forward with genuine curiosity was oddly moving. If anything, that afternoon convinced me the generational exchange only breaks down when one side decides it's done being a student.

    • FCI'd say the learning genuinely runs both ways, provided neither side assumes it already has nothing left to learn.A conditional, reflective framing that adds real nuance, well beyond the direct claims at 6.5 and 7.0.

Reframes the whole question around 'which decade happened to shape you' and closes with the metaphor 'baked into'.把整个问题重新构建为围绕 'which decade happened to shape you' 展开,并以隐喻 'baked into' 收尾。

I think the generation gap isn't really about age itself, it's about which decade happened to shape you - the reference points you grew up trusting become the ones that later generations find slightly baffling. Talking with my grandmother in Hue about her teenage years drove that home: she didn't own a mobile phone or watch television regularly until her forties, whereas I can't picture a day without Zalo notifications and TikTok's endless scroll. What strikes me is that the gap isn't really about technology alone, it's about entirely different assumptions around careers and relationships. Families can still meet in the middle, usually over food or shared traditions, but the distance itself seems baked into how fast the world keeps reinventing itself.

I think the real divide isn't digital versus traditional exactly, it's passive versus curated - older people tend to receive their media on a fixed schedule, while younger people actively assemble theirs. My grandmother in Hue is a perfect illustration: the evening news on VTV1 arrives at exactly 7 o'clock every night, non-negotiable, alongside the print magazines my uncle drops off at her restaurant. My younger sister, meanwhile, studying in Ho Chi Minh City, has essentially built her own personal news feed out of TikTok clips, YouTube videos and Zalo messages. I suspect older people find new platforms less intimidating in themselves than genuinely disorienting, with no fixed schedule to lean on. That said, my dad recently fell down a travel-vlog rabbit hole, so the pattern isn't absolute.

Riverside exercise equipment, accessible public spaces, regular health check-up campaigns, none of that existed when his father was ageing, and it shows. I think older people's daily lives tend to be structured less around productivity and more around ritual - small, repeatable anchors that make each day feel recognisable. My friend Linh's grandfather is a nice example: every morning, without fail, he walks slowly from his quiet neighborhood near Son Tra Peninsula to a local café, where the same old friends gather over cà phê sữa đá to trade newspaper headlines and, occasionally, a game of chess. The afternoons unfold more loosely - tending his small garden, helping around the house - but the morning ritual is clearly the anchor everything else hangs off. Opens with the playful idiom 'won the unofficial popularity contest' and closes with a cleft, colon-led sentence.

Walking and badminton seem to have won the unofficial popularity contest among older people here, and honestly, once you've watched a doubles match, it's not hard to see why. Early mornings along the riverfront or in parks like Bien Dong, you'll find groups power-walking with the seriousness of a commute, and my own neighbor, Mrs. Lan, in her early seventies, plays badminton twice a week at a community center near Dragon Bridge with a competitiveness that genuinely humbled me the one time she invited me along - I could barely return a serve. What both sports offer is a rare combination: gentle on ageing joints, but demanding enough to keep people sharp and social. Tai chi and swimming trail not far behind, particularly among retirees with mornings to fill.

I think media affects younger and older people quite differently, mainly because of how comfortable they are with technology. For example, my grandmother in Hue mostly watches TV news and listens to the radio in the evenings, and she tends to accept what the presenters say without questioning it much. In contrast, my younger sister, who's at university in Ho Chi Minh City, is constantly scrolling through TikTok and Instagram, picking up trends or fact-checking things online quickly. I remember visiting her last summer and being surprised by how fast she could spot fake news just by searching a few keywords. Older people in my family seem to trust traditional media more, while young people are more skeptical.

My friend's grandmother in Da Nang is a good example: decades on, she can still describe, almost frame by frame, the floods that swept through her village, the water climbing the street, neighbors working through the night to drag belongings to higher ground. I suspect those memories endure because they were the moments she discovered what she, and her community, were actually capable of.
