6.5 分

The 6.5 answer states routine facts plainly ('We meet for coffee almost every week') and uses simple contrastive sentences to describe the friend's personality without much elaboration.6.5分的答案朴素地陈述日常事实(如'我们几乎每周都会一起喝咖啡'),用简单的对比句来描述朋友的性格,不多加阐述。

The friend I enjoy talking with most is Thảo, who I met at a yoga class near My Khe Beach about eight months ago. We were both beginners and kept ending up next to each other, so we started chatting after class.

Thảo is a primary school teacher, and she's a very calm, patient person, which I think comes from her job. She's also quite funny in a quiet way, and she notices small details about things that most people would miss.

We meet for coffee almost every week, usually on Sunday mornings before it gets too hot. We talk about all kinds of things, like her students, my work projects, and books we're both reading. She also tells me a lot about teaching, which is a completely different world from mine, and I find it really interesting.

I enjoy talking with her because she listens carefully and never seems to be in a hurry, even though her job must be exhausting. Unlike some of my colleagues, she doesn't talk about work all the time, so our conversations always feel relaxed. After talking with her, I usually feel calmer, which is not something I can say about most conversations in my life.

  • FCWe meet for coffee almost every week, usually on Sunday mornings before it gets too hot. This sentence states the routine (meeting for coffee) and then adds two pieces of specific detail — frequency and timing — in a single, additive sentence, directly answering the "how often do you meet" aspect of the cue card without elaborating further on what the meetings are like (that comes in the next sentence). The detail "before it gets too hot" is a nice concrete, locally grounded touch, but the sentence structure itself remains simple and fact-stating, the straightforward, cue-card-following development typical of Band 6.5.这句话先说出日常习惯(约喝咖啡),然后在同一个累加式句子里补充两个具体细节——频率和时间——直接回答了提示卡中"多久见一次面"这一部分,而没有进一步展开说明见面时具体是什么样子(那部分留到下一句)。细节"before it gets too hot"是一个不错的、贴近当地生活的具体点缀,但句子结构本身依然简单,只是陈述事实——这是6.5分典型的、紧跟提示卡展开的直白方式。
  • LRquite funny in a quiet way"Quite funny in a quiet way" uses ordinary vocabulary to describe a fairly specific kind of humour (understated rather than loud), but rather than reaching for a more precise term like "dry" or "deadpan" that would capture this nuance in a single word, the speaker builds the idea out of simple, common words strung together. The result is clear and the intended meaning comes through, but the phrasing itself stays within the everyday register the Band 6.5 descriptor expects rather than showing more flexible lexical choice."Quite funny in a quiet way"用普通词汇来描述一种相当特定的幽默类型(含蓄而非张扬),但说话人没有去寻找像"dry"或"deadpan"这种能用一个词就捕捉这种细微差别的更精确说法,而是用简单、常见的词串联起来表达这个意思。结果意思清楚,想表达的内容也传达到位,但措辞本身仍停留在6.5分描述所期望的日常语域内,而没有展现出更灵活的词汇选择。
  • GRAUnlike some of my colleagues, she doesn't talk about work all the time, so our conversations always feel relaxed. The sentence opens with a contrastive prepositional phrase ("unlike some of my colleagues") and closes with a result clause introduced by "so," giving it two linked grammatical moves within one sentence — genuinely a bit more ambitious than a single simple clause, though still built from very common connective devices rather than more varied subordination. This combination of contrast and consequence in one sentence is accurate and effective, sitting at the more complex end of what's typical for Band 6.5 grammar without crossing into the comfortably varied complexity that would mark it as Band 7.0.这句话以带有对比意味的介词短语("unlike some of my colleagues")开头,以"so"引导的结果从句收尾,在一句话里做出了两个相互关联的语法动作——确实比单一简单从句更有野心一些,不过仍然是用非常常见的连接手段构建的,而非更多样的从属结构。这种在一句话里同时呈现对比与结果的做法准确而有效,处在6.5分语法典型范围中较复杂的一端,但还没有跨入能标志7.0分的那种自如多样的复杂度。
7.0 分

The 7.0 answer uses a natural collocation ('comes across as rude') and develops the answer with a specific supporting example about the kinds of questions the friend asks, fitting the comfortable Band 7.0 target.7.0分的答案使用了一个自然搭配('显得没礼貌'),并用一个关于朋友常问哪类问题的具体例子来展开回答,符合7.0分运用自如的目标水平。

The friend I most enjoy talking with is Linh, who I met at a photography club that meets once a month near the Dragon Bridge, about a year and a half ago.

We got talking because we were the only two people who'd brought completely useless cameras that evening, and we ended up laughing about it instead of taking any decent photos. Linh works as an architect, which is quite different from my job in design, but we've found we actually have a lot in common when it comes to how we think about things.

She's quite a direct person, actually, someone who says exactly what she thinks rather than being overly polite about it, but somehow it never comes across as rude. She also notices things most people wouldn't bother with, like the way light falls on a building at a certain time of day, which I find genuinely interesting even though it's not something I'd normally think about.

We meet up for coffee roughly every two weeks, and our conversations cover pretty much everything, from her current building projects to whatever's annoying me at work that week. She often asks questions about my job that nobody in my own industry would think to ask, and answering them usually helps me understand my own ideas better.

I enjoy talking with her mainly because she listens properly instead of just waiting for her turn to speak, which isn't as common as it should be. Conversations with her never feel rushed, and I usually leave feeling like I've actually thought about something properly, rather than just filled the time.

  • LRcomes across as rude'Comes across as rude' uses the phrasal verb 'come across as' to describe how behaviour is perceived by others, which is more precise than simply saying someone 'sounds rude' because it distinguishes intention from impression. This kind of natural, slightly more sophisticated collocation for describing social perception is the Band 7.0 lexical resource target, without reaching for anything as marked as an idiom.‘Comes across as rude’ 用短语动词 ‘come across as’ 来描述某种行为在他人眼中的样子,比单纯说某人 ‘sounds rude’ 更精确,因为它把“意图”和“别人接收到的印象”区分开来。这种自然、又比最基本表达略胜一筹的搭配,用来描述社会认知,正是 Band 7.0 词汇资源想要达到的目标,而不必用上像习语那样显眼的表达。
  • FCShe often asks questions about my job that nobody in my own industry would think to ask, and answering them usually helps me understand my own ideas better. The general claim that Linh asks unusual, valuable questions is backed up with a specific consequence — that answering them 'helps me understand my own ideas better' — rather than being left as an abstract compliment about her curiosity. This reason-plus-effect development, grounding a general claim in a concrete personal outcome, is precisely the pattern the Band 7.0 descriptor asks for.关于 Linh 会提出独特、有价值的问题这一泛泛论断,被一个具体的后果所支撑——回答这些问题“helps me understand my own ideas better”——而不是停留在对她好奇心的一句空泛夸赞上。这种“理由+效果”式的展开,把一个笼统论断落实到一个具体的个人收获上,正是 Band 7.0 评分标准所要求的模式。
  • GRAI usually leave feeling like I've actually thought about something properly, rather than just filled the time. The sentence uses a present participle clause ('feeling like I've actually thought about something properly') followed by a contrastive 'rather than' phrase, meaning two different structures work together to draw a distinction between genuine engagement and merely passing time. Combining a participial clause with a contrastive tail in one accurate sentence is the comfortable complex-grammar range Band 7.0 is calibrated to expect.这句话用一个现在分词从句(‘feeling like I've actually thought about something properly’)接上一个表转折的‘rather than’短语,意味着两种不同的结构合力,划出了“真正投入”与“只是打发时间”之间的界线。在一个准确无误的句子里同时用上分词从句和转折尾句,正是 Band 7.0 语法预期中那种驾驭自如的复杂结构范围。
7.5 分

The 7.5 answer balances bluntness and generosity in one fluent sentence ('She'll tell you your idea is bad in the first sentence and then spend an hour helping you fix it') and closes with a genuinely reflective semicolon-linked insight.7.5分的答案在一个流畅的句子里平衡了直率与慷慨('她会在第一句话就直言你的想法很糟,然后花上一个小时帮你把它改好'),并以一个用分号连接、真正具有反思意味的洞见收尾。

The friend I most enjoy talking with is Hà, who I met at a pottery class in An Thượng about a year ago. We were the two people at the back of the room whose bowls kept collapsing, and by the third week we'd given up on pottery and were mostly just talking while pretending to centre clay.

She's a paediatric nurse at the children's hospital here in Da Nang, which makes her about as different from me as it's possible to be. I sit in front of a screen worrying about the spacing of buttons; she spends twelve-hour shifts with sick kids and their frightened parents. Personality-wise she's direct in a way I'm not — she'll tell you your idea is bad in the first sentence and then spend an hour helping you fix it.

We meet for coffee every other Sunday, usually somewhere on the beach road, and we talk about everything. She tells me about the hospital, never the sad parts, mostly the absurd ones — the child who refused all medicine unless it came in a Grab delivery bag. I tell her about clients, and she asks questions nobody in my industry asks, like why an app for a hospital needs to be beautiful at all. That question changed a whole project for me.

Why I enjoy it, I think, is that she's the only friend who makes me explain myself properly. With colleagues I can hide behind jargon; with Hà I have to say what I actually mean, and I usually discover what I think in the process. She also listens without waiting for her turn, which is rarer than it should be. And she laughs at my jokes, which, given how few of them there are, I appreciate.

  • GRAshe'll tell you your idea is bad in the first sentence and then spend an hour helping you fix itThe sentence pairs two verb phrases under a single subject — "she'll tell you... and then spend..." — so the contrast between bluntness and generosity is carried by parallel structure alone, with no subordinating conjunction needed to signal it. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would likely split this into two sentences joined by "but", spelling the contrast out; here the coordination itself does the work, which is the kind of economical, controlled complexity Band 7.5 grammar rewards. It also lands right after the speaker calls Hà "direct in a way I'm not", so the sentence functions as proof of that claim rather than just restating it.这句话在同一个主语下并列了两个动词短语——“she'll tell you... and then spend...”——因此“直率”与“慷慨”之间的对比完全靠并列结构本身来呈现,不需要任何从属连词来提示。Band 6.5 或 7.0 的答案很可能会把它拆成两个用“but”连接的句子,把对比明说出来;而这里,并列结构本身就完成了这项工作,这正是 Band 7.5 语法所奖励的那种经济、受控的复杂性。这句话也紧跟在说话人称 Hà “direct in a way I'm not”之后出现,因此它起到的是证明这一论断的作用,而不只是重复它。
  • LRpretending to centre clay"Centre" is technical pottery vocabulary — the term for aligning clay on a spinning wheel — and it's dropped into a self-deprecating aside ("pretending to centre clay") rather than explained or flagged as jargon, which is exactly the natural, in-register use of precise vocabulary that marks Band 7.5 Lexical Resource. A lower-band answer would likely avoid the specialist term altogether and just say something like "trying to make pottery". The word choice also does double duty here, since it quietly confirms both friends were bad at the class, setting up the story's real subject: talking, not pottery.“Centre”是陶艺中的专业词汇——指把陶土在转盘上找正中心——它被随手用在一句自嘲的插话里(“pretending to centre clay”),而不是被解释或标注为术语,这正是 Band 7.5 Lexical Resource 所看重的那种自然、贴合语境地使用精准词汇的方式。分数较低的答案很可能会完全避开这个专业术语,只说类似“trying to make pottery”这样的话。这个用词选择还兼具双重作用,因为它不动声色地证实了两位朋友在那门课上都学得不怎么样,从而引出了这个故事真正的主题:聊天,而不是做陶。
  • FCWith colleagues I can hide behind jargon; with Hà I have to say what I actually mean, and I usually discover what I think in the process. This is a parallel "with X... with Y..." comparison that doesn't stop at contrast — it pushes on to a genuine realisation ("I usually discover what I think in the process"), which is the one clear reflective point Band 7.5 Fluency & Coherence asks for beyond plain description. A 7.0 answer would likely stop at the observation that Hà is easy to talk to; this answer goes further and explains what talking to her actually does to the speaker's thinking. That shift from "she is direct" to "she changes how I process my own ideas" is what turns a description of a friend into genuine self-reflection.这是一个“with X... with Y...”式的并列对比,但它并没有止步于对比——而是进一步推向一个真正的领悟(“I usually discover what I think in the process”),这正是 7.5 档次 Fluency & Coherence 在单纯描述之外所要求的那一个清晰的反思点。Band 7.0 的答案很可能只停留在“Hà 很好聊”这一观察上;而这篇答案更进一步,解释了和她聊天究竟对说话人的思维产生了什么作用。从“she is direct”转向“she changes how I process my own ideas”这一转变,正是把对朋友的描述变成真正自我反思的关键所在。

Stays at 6.5 through short, separate sentences joined by plain connectors like 'But' and 'Also', never risking a longer combined clause.全程通过简短、独立的句子来维持在6.5分的水平,用'But'和'Also'这类朴素的连接词来衔接,从不冒险使用更长的组合分句。

Not always, I think. Face-to-face is usually better because you can see the other person's face and body language. But it isn't always possible. My best friend from university now lives in Melbourne, so we talk on video calls every two weeks. These calls are still very meaningful to us, even though we are far apart. Also, some people find it easier to say honest things online than in person. So I would choose face-to-face when I can, but I don't think phone calls are a bad substitute.

    我觉得不一定。面对面通常更好,因为你能看到对方的表情和肢体语言。但这并不总是可行的。我大学时最好的朋友现在住在墨尔本,所以我们每两周会视频通话一次。即使相隔遥远,这些通话对我们来说仍然非常有意义。而且,有些人觉得在网上说真心话比面对面更容易。所以只要有可能,我还是会选择面对面,但我不认为电话是一种糟糕的替代方式。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThese calls are still very meaningful to us, even though we are far apart. The point is stated flatly with no development. The 7.0 version instead explains why the calls matter ('mainly because we both give the call our full attention'), and 7.5 adds a further justification ('no distractions and a fixed hour set aside'), so both higher bands turn the claim into a small argument rather than a statement.这个观点被平淡地陈述出来,没有任何展开。7.0版本则解释了为什么这些通话很重要('mainly because we both give the call our full attention'),而7.5又加上了一个进一步的理由('no distractions and a fixed hour set aside'),所以两个更高分段都把这个论断变成了一个小小的论证,而不只是一句陈述。
    • LRvery meaningfulA basic intensifier-plus-adjective pairing. 7.0 upgrades this to 'genuinely some of the best conversations I have' and 7.5 to 'some of the most rewarding conversations I have', both trading the plain phrase for a more precise, evaluative one.一个基础的强调语加形容词的搭配。7.0把它升级成了'genuinely some of the best conversations I have',7.5则升级成了'some of the most rewarding conversations I have',两者都用一个更精确、更具评价性的短语取代了朴素的说法。
    • GRAeven though we are far apartA simple subordinate clause with basic grammar. 7.0 embeds a comparable idea inside a longer sentence with a causal clause, and 7.5 compresses two ideas into one flexible sentence using a colon-free appositive structure, showing more range than this short clause allows.一个语法基础的简单从句。7.0把一个类似的想法嵌入到一个带因果分句的更长句子里,而7.5则用一个不带冒号的同位语结构,把两个想法压缩进一个灵活的句子里,展现出比这个短分句更宽广的语言范围。
    7.0 分

The spoken hedge 'Honestly, I'd say' and the contrastive 'That said' push this past 6.5's flat statements into a lightly argued opinion.口语化的缓冲语'Honestly, I'd say'和转折语'That said',把这段话从6.5那种平铺直叙的陈述,推进到了一个略带论证意味的观点。

Honestly, I'd say face-to-face is better in most ways, but I don't think the alternatives are as poor as people often claim. One of my closest friends from university moved to Melbourne, and our video calls every two weeks are genuinely some of the best conversations I have, mainly because we both give the call our full attention. Face-to-face does let you read body language and comfortable silences, which matter a lot for serious talks. That said, online chats can sometimes feel more honest, since a little distance makes people braver. So face-to-face is my default, but the phone is a real second choice, not a poor substitute.

    • FCour video calls every two weeks are genuinely some of the best conversations I haveThis adds a reason ('mainly because we both give the call our full attention') that 6.5 leaves unexplained. 7.5 goes further still, layering two reasons ('no distractions... a fixed hour set aside') into one sentence, so the idea keeps deepening across the bands.这里加上了一个6.5没有解释的理由('mainly because we both give the call our full attention')。7.5则更进一步,在一个句子里叠加了两个理由('no distractions... a fixed hour set aside'),让这个想法在各个分段中不断加深。
    • LRa little distance makes people braverA neat, slightly figurative way to phrase the idea, more precise than 6.5's plain 'easier to say honest things online'. 7.5 pushes the same idea further into idiom with 'people occasionally confess things there they'd never risk across a table', showing a clearer step up in register.一种整齐、略带比喻性的表达方式,比6.5朴素的'easier to say honest things online'更精确。7.5把同样的想法进一步推向了地道的表达'people occasionally confess things there they'd never risk across a table',展现出语域上更明显的提升。
    • GRAThat said, online chats can sometimes feel more honest, since a little distance makes people braver. One sentence carries a contrast and a causal clause, more complex than 6.5's separate short sentences on the same idea. It's still simpler than 7.5's version, which folds the contrast, an idiom, and a supporting clause into a single flowing sentence.一个句子承载了一个对比和一个因果分句,比6.5那种针对同一想法的分开短句更复杂。不过它还是比7.5的版本更简单,后者把对比、一个习语,还有一个支撑性的分句,全都融进了一个流畅的句子里。
    7.5 分

The closing image 'not a consolation prize' gives an evaluative finish that neither lower band attempts.结尾的意象'not a consolation prize'给出了一个评价性的收尾,两个较低分段都没有尝试过这一点。

Better in most respects, I'd argue, though not always available, and I resist the common line that phone or online chats are a poor substitute. One of my closest friends from university relocated to Melbourne, and our fortnightly video calls have become some of the most rewarding conversations I have, precisely because we both show up with no distractions and a fixed hour set aside. Face-to-face offers the small stuff — body language, a comfortable silence — that carries real weight in serious conversations. Yet there's something to be said for the slight distance of a screen or message: people occasionally confess things there they'd never risk across a table. So face-to-face remains my instinctive choice, while the phone earns its place as a genuine alternative, not a consolation prize.

    • FCprecisely because we both show up with no distractions and a fixed hour set asideThis packs two supporting reasons into one clause, going beyond 7.0's single reason ('mainly because we both give the call our full attention') and far beyond 6.5's unexplained claim. The layering is what pushes the idea from stated to genuinely argued.这里在一个分句里塞进了两个支撑性的理由,超越了7.0单一的理由('mainly because we both give the call our full attention'),也远远超出了6.5那种没有解释的论断。正是这种层层叠加,把这个想法从单纯的陈述推进到了真正的论证。
    • LRnot a consolation prizeAn idiomatic, slightly witty closing phrase that 6.5's 'not a bad substitute' and 7.0's 'not a poor substitute' both approach more literally. The idiom signals a more natural, native-like register.一个地道、略带机智的结尾短语,而6.5的'not a bad substitute'和7.0的'not a poor substitute'都是以更直白的方式来处理这一点的。这个习语标志着一种更自然、更接近母语者的语域。
    • GRAFace-to-face offers the small stuff — body language, a comfortable silence — that carries real weight in serious conversations. The dashes interrupt the main clause to insert examples before the sentence resolves, a more flexible structure than 6.5's simple list joined by 'and', and more compact than 7.0's plainer coordinated clause on the same point.破折号打断了主句,在句子结束之前插入了例子,比6.5那种用'and'连接的简单列举更灵活,也比7.0针对同一点更朴素的并列分句更紧凑。

Simple cause-effect sentences like 'so small meanings and jokes get lost' keep the grammar and vocabulary safely plain.像'so small meanings and jokes get lost'这样简单的因果句,让语法和词汇都稳妥地保持朴素。

A lot of misunderstanding can happen, even when both sides think they agree. I once used a translation app in a meeting with a Japanese client, and we both left happy, but later we found out we understood 'end of the month' differently, which caused problems. Without a shared language, people use simpler words, so small meanings and jokes get lost. Discussions become more like business transactions. On the good side, people also listen more carefully to body language and tone, which sometimes helps them understand each other better.

    • FCwhich caused problemsVague and unspecific compared to 7.0's concrete detail ('which cost us two weeks') and 7.5's identical but more polished phrasing. The higher bands quantify the consequence instead of just naming it.和7.0具体的细节('which cost us two weeks')以及7.5那种相同但更精致的措辞相比,这里显得含糊、不具体。更高分段量化了后果,而不只是单纯地提到它。
    • LRsmall meanings and jokes get lostPlain, everyday wording. 7.0 and 7.5 both upgrade this to a sequence — 'nuance disappears first, then humour, then honesty' — which is more precise and more sophisticated than the general phrase 'small meanings and jokes'.朴素、日常的措辞。7.0和7.5都把它升级成了一个序列——'nuance disappears first, then humour, then honesty'——比笼统的短语'small meanings and jokes'更精确、更老练。
    • GRADiscussions become more like business transactions.A short, simple standalone sentence. 7.5 compresses a related idea into a subordinate clause inside a longer sentence ('and the discussion quietly hardens into a transaction'), showing tighter sentence control than this separate statement.一个简短、简单的独立句子。7.5把一个相关的想法压缩进了一个更长句子里的从属分句('and the discussion quietly hardens into a transaction'),比这个独立的陈述展现出更紧凑的句子掌控力。

The hedge 'To be fair, though' signals a natural spoken pivot that 6.5's flatter 'On the good side' doesn't quite achieve.缓冲语'To be fair, though'标志着一种自然的口语转折,而6.5那种更平淡的'On the good side'并没有完全做到这一点。

Usually there's a lot of nodding and less real agreement than people assume. I remember a meeting with a Japanese client's team where we relied on a translation app, and both sides left the room happy — until we realised 'by the end of the month' meant two different months to us, which cost us two weeks. Without a shared language, people tend to simplify what they say, so nuance disappears first, then humour, then honesty. To be fair, though, people also become more patient and pay closer attention to gestures and tone, and that attention sometimes produces better understanding than two fluent speakers talking past each other.

    • FCwhich cost us two weeksA concrete, quantified consequence, sharper than 6.5's vague 'which caused problems'. 7.5 keeps this exact detail but sets it inside a more elaborate lead-up, showing the idea is stable across bands while the surrounding language grows more complex.一个具体的、经过量化的后果,比6.5含糊的'which caused problems'更犀利。7.5保留了这个确切的细节,但把它放进了一个更精心的铺垫里,说明这个想法在各分段中是稳定的,而周围的语言变得更复杂。
    • LRnuance disappears first, then humour, then honestyA precise three-step sequence, more sophisticated than 6.5's blanket phrase 'small meanings and jokes get lost'. 7.5 reuses this same sequence, showing it's already near-ceiling phrasing rather than something that needs further upgrading.一个精确的三步序列,比6.5笼统的短语'small meanings and jokes get lost'更老练。7.5重用了同样的序列,说明这已经是接近顶点的表达方式,不需要进一步升级。
    • GRAboth sides left the room happy — until we realised 'by the end of the month' meant two different months to usThe dash creates a turn mid-sentence, a more complex structure than 6.5's two short sentences joined by 'but'. It's slightly less compact than 7.5's version of the same idea, which trims the wording further.破折号在句中创造了一个转折,比6.5那种用'but'连接的两个短句更复杂。它还是比7.5对同样想法的版本略微不那么紧凑,后者进一步精简了措辞。

The image 'hardens into a transaction' is the kind of compact, evaluative metaphor that marks this out from 7.0's more literal 'become more like business transactions' idea.意象'hardens into a transaction'是一种紧凑、带评价性的比喻,正是这种手法让它和7.0那种更直白的'become more like business transactions'区分开来。

Usually a great deal of nodding, and considerably less agreement than everyone in the room believes. I once sat through a meeting with a Japanese client's team where we leaned entirely on a translation app, and both sides walked away satisfied — except that we'd understood 'by the end of the month' to mean different months, a slip that cost us two weeks. Without a shared language, people instinctively simplify what they say, so nuance vanishes first, then humour, then honesty, and the discussion quietly hardens into a transaction. On the brighter side, people also grow more patient and start reading gestures and tone with unusual care, and that heightened attention occasionally produces a sharper understanding than fluent speakers manage when they're simply talking past one another.

    • FCa slip that cost us two weeksReframes the same consequence as 7.0 ('which cost us two weeks') but folds it into an appositive noun phrase ('a slip that...') rather than a separate clause, a more economical structure.重新构建了和7.0相同的后果('which cost us two weeks'),但把它折叠进了一个同位语名词短语('a slip that...')里,而不是一个独立的分句,是一个更经济的结构。
    • LRthe discussion quietly hardens into a transactionA vivid, slightly metaphorical verb choice ('hardens into') replacing 6.5's plain 'become more like business transactions'. This is the kind of precise, idiomatic collocation examiners associate with the top band.一个生动、略带比喻性的动词选择('hardens into'),取代了6.5朴素的'become more like business transactions'。这种精确、地道的搭配正是考官会联想到最高分段的那种表达。
    • GRAand that heightened attention occasionally produces a sharper understanding than fluent speakers manage when they're simply talking past one anotherA long sentence carrying a comparison, a subordinate clause, and an idiom ('talking past one another') all at once, more ambitious than 7.0's already-complex but shorter equivalent, and far beyond 6.5's simple 'which sometimes helps them understand each other better'.一个长句同时承载了一个比较、一个从属分句,以及一个习语('talking past one another'),比7.0那种已经算复杂但更短的对应版本更有野心,也远远超出了6.5那句简单的'which sometimes helps them understand each other better'。

Very often, especially if you live in a city. Every morning I talk to the parking attendant, the bánh mì seller, and my Grab driver, and each is a short conversation with a stranger. I also ask for directions, talk to people in shops and banks, or make small talk in a lift. At work, new clients and new colleagues are strangers too, and hospitals or government offices are common as well. Most of these conversations follow the same pattern, so people usually know what to say.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCMost of these conversations follow the same pattern, so people usually know what to sayStates the idea of scripted talk in basic, generic terms. 7.0 sharpens this to 'how scripted most of these exchanges are', and 7.5 to the idiomatic 'we've quietly memorised the lines', both more precise and more vivid.用基础、笼统的说法陈述了"对话是程式化的"这个想法。7.0把它锐化成了'how scripted most of these exchanges are',而7.5则用了地道的表达'we've quietly memorised the lines',两者都更精确、更生动。
    • LRa short conversation with a strangerPlain, literal phrasing. 7.5 upgrades the same idea to 'a small conversation with a total stranger', where 'total' adds emphasis that this simpler version lacks.朴素、直白的措辞。7.5把同样的想法升级成了'a small conversation with a total stranger',其中'total'增添了这个更简单版本所缺乏的强调意味。
    • GRAI also ask for directions, talk to people in shops and banks, or make small talk in a lift.A simple list joined with commas and 'or'. 7.5 restructures a similar list with varied connectors and a more literary flourish ('the unavoidable small talk that fills a lift'), showing greater sentence variety than this single flat list.一个用逗号和'or'连接的简单列举。7.5用多样的连接词和更有文学色彩的笔触('the unavoidable small talk that fills a lift')重构了一个类似的列举,比这个单一、平淡的列举展现出更强的句式多样性。

The reflective close 'What's interesting, I'd say' adds a layer of commentary that 6.5's plain listing doesn't attempt.带反思意味的收尾'What's interesting, I'd say'增添了一层评论,这是6.5那种朴素的列举没有尝试过的。

Honestly, if you live in a city, it's almost constant. My average morning involves the parking attendant, the bánh mì seller, and my Grab driver, and each of those is a small conversation with someone I don't know. Then there's asking for directions, dealing with shops and banks, and the slightly awkward small talk in a lift. At work, strangers are the clients on a first call or the new colleague on their first day, and hospitals or government offices are full of the same kind of interaction. What's interesting, I'd say, is how scripted most of these exchanges are, since we've all learned the same lines to use.

    • FCthe slightly awkward small talk in a liftAdds an evaluative adjective ('slightly awkward') that 6.5's bare 'make small talk in a lift' skips. 7.5 keeps a similar idea but reframes it as 'the unavoidable small talk that fills a lift', trading the adjective for a stronger verb choice.加上了一个评价性的形容词('slightly awkward'),而6.5那句光秃秃的'make small talk in a lift'省略了这一点。7.5保留了类似的想法,但把它重新构建成了'the unavoidable small talk that fills a lift',用一个更强的动词选择取代了形容词。
    • LRhow scripted most of these exchanges areA more analytical noun phrase than 6.5's 'follow the same pattern'. 7.5 pushes further into idiom with 'we've quietly memorised the lines', which is more figurative than this more literal 7.0 phrasing.一个比6.5的'follow the same pattern'更具分析性的名词短语。7.5进一步推向了地道的表达'we've quietly memorised the lines',比7.0这种更直白的措辞更具比喻性。
    • GRAWhat's interesting, I'd say, is how scripted most of these exchanges are, since we've all learned the same lines to use.A cleft sentence ('What's interesting... is...') followed by a causal clause, more complex than 6.5's separate simple sentences on the same point, though less compact than 7.5's version with its added contrast clause about going 'off the script'.一个强调句('What's interesting... is...')后面接一个因果分句,比6.5针对同一点分开的简单句子更复杂,不过还是不如7.5的版本紧凑,后者还加上了一个关于"脱离剧本"的对比分句。
    7.5 分

The closing observation about someone going 'off the script' gives an evaluative twist absent from the more descriptive lower bands.结尾处关于"偏离剧本"的观察,给出了一个评价性的转折,而较低分段那种更偏描述性的写法并没有这一点。

Constantly, if you happen to live in a city. My average morning involves the parking attendant, the bánh mì seller, and a Grab driver, and each of those counts as a small conversation with a total stranger. Then there's asking for directions, navigating shops and banks, sitting beside someone on a long bus, and the unavoidable small talk that fills a lift. At work, strangers arrive as the client on a first call and the new colleague on their first day, while hospitals and government offices supply plenty more of the same. What strikes me is how scripted most of it is — we've quietly memorised the lines — and how visibly uncomfortable people get the moment a stranger wanders off the script.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCcounts as a small conversation with a total strangerThe word 'counts as' frames the claim more analytically than 6.5's plain statement 'is a short conversation with a stranger', while still describing the same everyday moment.'Counts as' 这个词比6.5朴素的陈述'is a short conversation with a stranger'更具分析性地构建了这个论断,同时仍然描述着同样的日常瞬间。
    • LRwe've quietly memorised the linesA vivid, idiomatic recasting of 7.0's more literal 'we've all learned the same lines to use', trading a plain verb for a more evocative one ('memorised') paired with 'quietly'.对7.0更直白的'we've all learned the same lines to use'做出的一次生动、地道的重塑,用一个更有感染力的动词('memorised')搭配'quietly',取代了朴素的动词。

The simile 'almost like another person' is offered plainly, without the sharper 'third participant' phrasing the higher bands use.明喻'almost like another person'是以朴素的方式给出的,没有使用更高分段那种更犀利的'third participant'表达。

Mostly the same things young people have always talked about, just with new topics added. Last week I heard students at a café talking about an exam, a crush, and which phone plan was cheaper. They also talk about relationships and complaints about parents or teachers. Nowadays a lot of the conversation is about online content, like a video or a meme, instead of their own lives. Phones are usually on the table too, almost like another person in the conversation. But it's still mostly about who they are and who likes them.

    • FCalmost like another person in the conversationA simple, everyday simile. 7.0 and 7.5 both upgrade this to the more precise 'a third participant', a term borrowed from formal register that reads as more sophisticated.一个简单、日常的明喻。7.0和7.5都把它升级成了更精确的'a third participant',这个借自正式语域的术语读起来更老练。
    • LRwith new topics addedVague, general wording. 7.0 and 7.5 both replace this with the more vivid metaphor 'different props', which more precisely captures the idea that the underlying topics are old but the surface details are new.含糊、笼统的措辞。7.0和7.5都用了更生动的比喻'different props'来取代它,更精确地抓住了"底层话题是旧的,而表面细节是新的"这个想法。
    • GRANowadays a lot of the conversation is about online content, like a video or a meme, instead of their own lives.A straightforward sentence with a simple list. 7.5 restructures a similar idea using a dash-set list and the phrase 'orbits content', showing more grammatical ambition than this plain construction.一个带简单列举的直白句子。7.5用一个破折号标示的列举和短语'orbits content'重构了一个类似的想法,比这个朴素的结构展现出更强的语法野心。

The construction 'Add X, and that's most of it' is a natural spoken shortcut that keeps the answer efficient without sounding like a list.'Add X, and that's most of it'这种结构是一种自然的口语化捷径,让答案保持高效,而不会听起来像一份清单。

Honestly, probably the same things young people have always talked about, just with different props. At the next table in a café last week, a group of students spent an hour on three topics: an exam, someone's crush, and which phone plan was cheaper. Add relationships, plans for the future, complaints about parents and teachers, and whatever's trending online, and that's most of it. What's a little newer, I'd say, is that a lot of the talk is about content — a video, a meme, a match — rather than about their own lives directly, with the phone often sitting on the table like a third participant.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCAdd relationships, plans for the future, complaints about parents and teachers, and whatever's trending online, and that's most of it.An imperative-plus-result construction that's more natural and economical than 6.5's plain 'They also often talk about...' listing sentence. 7.5 keeps a nearly identical structure, showing this phrasing is already close to ceiling.一个祈使句加结果的结构,比6.5那种朴素的列举句'They also often talk about...'更自然、更经济。7.5保留了几乎相同的结构,说明这种表达方式已经接近顶点了。
    • LRdifferent propsA compact metaphor replacing 6.5's literal 'new topics added'. It implies the underlying script is unchanged and only the surface objects differ, a more precise idea than the plain version conveys.一个紧凑的比喻,取代了6.5直白的'new topics added'。它暗示着底层的剧本没有改变,只有表面的对象不同,这是一个比朴素版本更精确的想法。
    • GRAwith the phone often sitting on the table like a third participantA participial phrase adds a personifying image to the end of the sentence, more elaborate than 6.5's short separate sentence on the same idea ('Phones are usually on the table too'). 7.5 extends this further into 'propped on the table like a silent third participant', adding yet another descriptive layer.一个分词短语在句尾加上了一个拟人化的意象,比6.5针对同一想法的独立短句('Phones are usually on the table too')更精心。7.5进一步延伸成了'propped on the table like a silent third participant',又加上了一层描述。
    7.5 分

The verb 'orbits' in 'orbits content' is the kind of precise, slightly unusual collocation that marks the top band's vocabulary choices.'orbits content'中的动词'orbits'正是那种精确、略微不寻常的搭配,标志着最高分段的词汇选择。

Much the same things young people have always talked about, just with different props these days. Throw in relationships, plans for the future, gripes about parents and teachers, and whatever's currently trending online, and you've covered most of it. What feels genuinely newer is that a good chunk of the conversation orbits content — a video, a meme, a match — rather than their own lives directly, with the phone propped on the table like a silent third participant. Underneath it all, though, it's still mostly the old question of who they are and who likes them.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCorbits contentA striking, compact verb choice replacing 7.0's more conventional 'is about content'. The metaphor of orbiting suggests the conversation circles around the content without being directly about the speakers' own lives.一个引人注目、紧凑的动词选择,取代了7.0那种更常规的'is about content'。"围绕轨道运行"的比喻暗示着对话围着内容打转,而不是直接谈论说话者自己的生活。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCWith strangers, people usually behave more carefully; with friends, they relax.A balanced but simple semicolon sentence. 7.5 achieves the same contrast with punchier, more idiomatic phrasing ('we perform a little; with friends, we finally relax'), where 'perform' is a sharper verb choice than 'behave more carefully'.一个平衡但简单的分号句。7.5用更有力、更地道的措辞('we perform a little; with friends, we finally relax')实现了同样的对比,其中'perform'是一个比'behave more carefully'更犀利的动词选择。
    • LRbehave more carefullyA generic, literal verb phrase. 7.0 and 7.5 both replace it with the more figurative 'perform', which captures the idea of consciously managing one's presentation rather than simply being careful.一个笼统、直白的动词短语。7.0和7.5都用更具比喻性的'perform'取代了它,抓住了"有意识地管理自己的表现"这个想法,而不只是单纯地小心谨慎。

With friends, though, silence is fine, interruptions feel affectionate rather than impolite, and you're allowed to be wrong out loud. With strangers, people gravitate toward safer topics, steer clear of strong opinions, lean on titles and softer grammar, and rush to fill silences because silence feels rude. With friends, silence sits comfortably, interruptions read as affectionate rather than intrusive, and you're free to be wrong out loud. There's a subtler shift in listening too: with strangers we listen for cues about who they are, whereas with friends we already know — so, if I'm honest, we sometimes stop listening quite so closely.

    • FCthe full formal politeness Hue is known forAdds cultural specificity that neither lower band includes; 6.5 and 7.0 both just say 'formal politeness' or 'quite formal politeness' without locating it in a place, so this detail deepens the example.加上了两个较低分段都没有的文化具体性;6.5和7.0都只是说'formal politeness'或'quite formal politeness',没有把它定位在某个地方,所以这个细节让例子更有深度。
    • LRpeople gravitate toward safer topics, steer clear of strong opinions, lean on titles and softer grammarThree varied verb phrases ('gravitate toward', 'steer clear of', 'lean on') replace 6.5's repeated plain verbs ('choose', 'avoid', 'quickly fill'), giving the list more lexical variety.三个多样的动词短语('gravitate toward'、'steer clear of'、'lean on')取代了6.5反复使用的朴素动词('choose'、'avoid'、'quickly fill'),让这份列举有了更多的词汇变化。
    • GRAwhereas with friends we already know — so, if I'm honest, we sometimes stop listening quite so closelyA dash interrupts the main clause to insert a hedge before the sentence resolves, a more flexible structure than 7.0's colon-based version of the same idea, itself already more complex than 6.5's simple coordinated sentence.一个破折号打断了主句,在句子结束之前插入了一个缓冲语,比7.0对同样想法的冒号版本更灵活,而7.0的版本本身已经比6.5那种简单的并列句更复杂了。

The phrase 'find new people tiring to talk to' names the feeling directly, unlike 7.5's more abstract 'costly in energy'.短语'find new people tiring to talk to'直接说出了这种感受,不像7.5那种更抽象的'costly in energy'。

Mainly because they are afraid of being judged before people really know them. At work events, I sometimes practise an opening line in my head, then stand near the snacks and say nothing, because I know a stranger only judges me by my first sentence. Some people also grew up in small towns with close families, so they never got used to strangers. Others had bad experiences before, or they are simply shy and find new people tiring to talk to. In Vietnam, the rules for addressing someone senior are also complicated, which makes a first sentence feel risky.

    • FCpractise an opening line in my head, then stand near the snacks and say nothingA concrete, plainly told anecdote. 7.5 tells the same story with a punchier verb ('plant myself near the snacks') and adds emphasis ('absolutely nothing'), giving the same content more vividness.一个具体、朴素讲述的轶事。7.5用一个更有力的动词('plant myself near the snacks')讲了同样的故事,并加上了强调('absolutely nothing'),让同样的内容更生动。
    • LRfind new people tiring to talk toSimple, literal wording for social fatigue. 7.0 and 7.5 both replace it with the more abstract, precise phrase 'costly in energy', a metaphor borrowed from economics that's more sophisticated than the plain description here.对社交疲惫的简单、直白的措辞。7.0和7.5都用更抽象、更精确的短语'costly in energy'取代了它,这是一个借自经济学的比喻,比这里的朴素描述更老练。
    • GRASome people also grew up in small towns with close families, so they never got used to strangers.A simple cause-result sentence. 7.5 compresses a similar idea into a single balanced clause ('small towns and close-knit families produce excellent friends and nervous networkers in roughly equal measure'), which packs a contrast into the same space this plainer sentence needs two clauses for.一个简单的因果句。7.5把一个类似的想法压缩进了一个对称的分句里('small towns and close-knit families produce excellent friends and nervous networkers in roughly equal measure'),把一个对比塞进了这个更朴素的句子需要两个分句才能表达的空间里。

The self-deprecating aside 'Speaking for myself' and the reflective 'and I know how much rests on it' keep the tone personal and slightly hedged.自嘲式的插入语'Speaking for myself'和带反思意味的'and I know how much rests on it',让语气保持个人化,并带一点缓冲。

Speaking for myself, it's the fear of being judged before you've had the chance to be yourself. At industry events, I rehearse an opening line in the lift and stand next to the snacks saying nothing, because a stranger only has my first sentence to judge me by, and I know how much rests on it. Some people simply weren't raised around strangers, since small towns and close families tend to produce great friends but nervous networkers. Others have had bad experiences, or they're introverted and find each new person a bit draining. Cultures differ too — in Vietnam, the rules for addressing someone older or more senior are complex enough to make a first sentence feel risky.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCsmall towns and close families tend to produce great friends but nervous networkersA neat contrastive pairing ('great friends but nervous networkers'). 7.5 extends this with 'in roughly equal measure' and 'close-knit', adding precision that this 7.0 version doesn't quite reach.一对整齐的对比搭配('great friends but nervous networkers')。7.5用'in roughly equal measure'和'close-knit'延伸了这一点,增添了这个7.0版本还没有完全达到的精确度。
    • LRa bit drainingA common, moderately informal phrase. 7.5 replaces it with the more original, economics-flavoured metaphor 'costly in energy', which is less common and more evocative.一个常见、略带非正式感的短语。7.5用更有原创性、带有经济学色彩的比喻'costly in energy'取代了它,这个说法更少见,也更有感染力。
    • GRACultures differ too — in Vietnam, the rules for addressing someone older or more senior are complex enough to make a first sentence feel risky.A dash introduces the final point as an aside, more varied than 6.5's plain 'In Vietnam...' sentence starting cold. 7.5 pushes this further with the added metaphor 'like a minefield' at the very end.一个破折号把最后一点作为插入语引出来,比6.5那种冷不丁开始的朴素'In Vietnam...'句子更多样。7.5又在最末尾加上了比喻'like a minefield',进一步推进了这一点。
    7.5 分

The closing simile 'feel like a minefield' is the kind of vivid, evaluative image that lifts the ending beyond 7.0's more neutral 'feel risky'.结尾的明喻'feel like a minefield'正是那种生动、带评价性的意象,让结尾超越了7.0那种更中性的'feel risky'。

Speaking for myself, it's the fear of being judged before you've had any real chance to be yourself. At industry events I rehearse an opening line in the lift, then plant myself near the snacks and say absolutely nothing, because a stranger only has my first sentence to go on, and I know how much rides on it. Some people simply weren't raised around strangers — small towns and close-knit families produce excellent friends and nervous networkers in roughly equal measure. Others carry bad experiences, or they're genuinely introverted and find each new person costly in energy. And cultures diverge sharply here: in Vietnam, the etiquette around addressing someone older or more senior is intricate enough to make a single opening sentence feel like a minefield.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCfeel like a minefieldA vivid, slightly exaggerated simile that intensifies 7.0's plainer 'feel risky', giving the closing point a more memorable, idiomatic punch.一个生动、略带夸张的明喻,强化了7.0更朴素的'feel risky',给结尾观点带来了更令人印象深刻、更地道的冲击力。

The maintenance comparison is stated as a simple simile ('like regular maintenance') rather than developed into the sharper closing point the higher bands make.关于保养的比较是以一个简单的明喻('like regular maintenance')给出的,而不是像更高分段那样发展成更犀利的结尾观点。

I think it's very important, for the same reason regular contact matters in any relationship. Problems tend to grow bigger when people stop talking. I once saw a small disagreement with a client almost turn into losing the contract, just because we stopped having our weekly call for a month. Between countries, the risk is much higher, and regular meetings help leaders build the trust needed to call each other quickly during a crisis. Even if meetings don't produce big results, they are still useful, like regular maintenance.

    为什么是这个分数

    • GRAI once saw a small disagreement with a client almost turn into losing the contract, just because we stopped having our weekly call for a month.A single long sentence, but built from simple coordinated ideas. 7.5 expresses a similar anecdote with a more literary verb phrase ('edge toward a near-cancellation') and the addition 'assuming the worst', showing more descriptive control.一个长句,但由简单的并列想法构成。7.5用一个更有文学色彩的动词短语('edge toward a near-cancellation')和补充语'assuming the worst'表达了一个类似的轶事,展现出更强的描述性掌控力。

Very important, I'd say, and for the same reason it matters in any relationship: problems tend to grow in silence. I've seen a minor disagreement with a client almost turn into a cancelled contract, simply because we let the weekly call slip and both sides spent a month assuming the worst. Between countries the stakes are obviously much higher, and regular contact builds the personal familiarity that makes an emergency call possible at all. It also stops leaders relying purely on what their advisers tell them about each other. Honestly, the meetings themselves often look like they've achieved nothing, but I'd argue that's rather the point — they're maintenance, and you only notice maintenance once it stops.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCproblems tend to grow in silenceA compact, near-aphoristic phrase compressing 6.5's longer sentence 'Problems tend to grow bigger when people stop talking' into fewer words with more rhetorical weight. 7.5 uses the identical phrase, suggesting it is already well pitched at 7.0.一个紧凑、近乎格言式的短语,把6.5那句更长的'Problems tend to grow bigger when people stop talking'压缩成了更少的词,却带上了更多的修辞分量。7.5使用了完全相同的短语,说明它在7.0就已经拿捏得很好了。

    • GRAthey're maintenance, and you only notice maintenance once it stopsA two-part sentence that both states and extends the metaphor within one breath, more developed than 6.5's separate simile 'like regular maintenance'. 7.5's version is structurally almost identical, showing this construction was already strong here.一个两部分的句子,在一口气之内既陈述又延伸了这个比喻,比6.5那种独立的明喻'like regular maintenance'更完整。7.5的版本在结构上几乎相同,说明这个构造在这里已经很有力了。

Very, I'd say, and the logic is the same one that governs any relationship: problems grow fastest in silence. I've watched a minor disagreement with a client edge toward a near-cancellation simply because we let the weekly call slip, and both sides spent a month quietly assuming the worst. Between countries the stakes run enormously higher, and regular contact builds the personal familiarity that makes a crisis call even possible in the first place. It also keeps leaders from relying solely on what their advisers report about one another. The meetings themselves often produce nothing visible, granted, but that's rather the point — they're maintenance, and maintenance is the kind of thing you notice only once it stops.

No, not always, and I think it's unrealistic to believe otherwise. Two neighbours on my parents' street have argued over a wall for ten years, and even with the whole street trying to help, nothing has changed because both of them believe they are completely right. Some international problems are similar — both sides want something that cannot be shared. Discussion works better when there is room to compromise. But when one side wants something the other simply cannot give, talking mostly just delays the problem, and sometimes that delay is still useful.

I think it's extremely important, and I learned this in an embarrassing way. A friend once told me about her marriage ending, but I was thinking about my own week instead of really listening, and I only realised when she stopped talking and looked at me. Friendship is mostly built on being the person who notices things. Listening carefully also helps you notice what isn't said, like a change in someone's tone. Friends who listen well also give better advice, because they understand the real question. Most people think they listen well, but honestly, many conversations are only half-heard.

    • GRAMost people think they listen well, but honestly, many conversations are only half-heard.A simple two-clause sentence joined by 'but'. 7.5 restructures a similar closing idea using an inverted, more literary sentence ('the sheer number of half-heard conversations drifting through any café suggests otherwise'), where the evidence becomes the grammatical subject rather than being tacked on after 'but'.一个用'but'连接的简单双分句句子。7.5用一个倒装、更具文学色彩的句子('the sheer number of half-heard conversations drifting through any café suggests otherwise')重构了一个类似的结尾想法,让证据本身成为了语法上的主语,而不是附加在'but'之后。

The closing semicolon sentence sets a claim against counter-evidence in one breath, a more efficient move than 6.5's separate 'but' clause.结尾的分号句在一口气之内把一个论断和反证摆在了一起,比6.5那种分开的'but'分句更高效。

It's basically the whole thing, honestly, and I learnt that lesson in an embarrassing way. A friend once spent ten minutes telling me her marriage was ending while I was mentally composing a story about my own week, and I only realised what she'd said when she stopped and looked at me. Friendship, I'd say, is largely built on being the person who noticed. Careful listening also catches what isn't said — the flat tone, the subject that keeps getting changed. And practically speaking, friends who listen give better advice, because they're answering the actual question. Most of us assume we're good listeners; the number of half-heard conversations in any café suggests otherwise.

    • FCmentally composing a story about my own weekA vivid, self-aware image replacing 6.5's plainer 'thinking about my own week instead of really listening'. 7.5 keeps this phrase almost identically, showing it was already well-pitched here.一个生动、带自我察觉意味的意象,取代了6.5那种更朴素的'thinking about my own week instead of really listening'。7.5几乎原样保留了这个短语,说明它在这里就已经拿捏得很好了。
    • LRthe flat tone, the subject that keeps getting changedTwo specific, concrete details replace 6.5's vague 'a change in someone's tone'. The listing structure itself, without connecting words, is more compact and more native-sounding than a fuller sentence would be.两个具体、明确的细节取代了6.5模糊的'a change in someone's tone'。这种不带连接词的列举结构本身,就比一个更完整的句子更紧凑、更接近母语者的语感。
    • GRAMost of us assume we're good listeners; the number of half-heard conversations in any café suggests otherwise.A semicolon joins a claim to contrary evidence without a connecting word, a more compact structure than 6.5's 'but'-joined sentence. 7.5 keeps nearly the same structure, adding only 'sheer' and 'drifting through' for extra vividness.一个分号把一个论断和反证连接起来,不需要连接词,比6.5那种用'but'连接的句子更紧凑。7.5保留了几乎相同的结构,只加上了'sheer'和'drifting through'来增添生动感。

The verb 'grasped' in place of 'realised' is a small but telling upgrade, suggesting effortful understanding rather than a simple realisation.用动词'grasped'取代'realised',是一个虽小但很能说明问题的提升,暗示了一种费力才达成的理解,而不是简单的意识到。

It's the whole thing, honestly, and I learnt that the embarrassing way. A friend once spent ten minutes telling me her marriage was ending while I was quietly composing a story about my own week, and I only grasped what she'd said when she stopped talking and looked at me. Friendship, at bottom, is largely built on being the person who noticed. Careful listening also catches what goes unsaid — the flattened tone, the subject that keeps getting steered away from. And practically, friends who listen give sharper advice, because they're actually answering the question that was asked. Most of us like to think we're good listeners; the sheer number of half-heard conversations drifting through any café suggests otherwise.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI only grasped what she'd saidA more precise verb than 7.0 and 6.5's plain 'realised', suggesting the understanding took real mental effort to arrive at, which fits the story of a distracted friend catching up late.一个比7.0和6.5朴素的'realised'更精确的动词,暗示了这种理解是经过真正的心理努力才达成的,这与一个走神的朋友迟迟才反应过来的故事很契合。
    • LRthe subject that keeps getting steered away fromA more active, deliberate-sounding phrase than 7.0's 'keeps getting changed', implying the avoidance is intentional rather than accidental, a subtler reading of the same behaviour.一个比7.0的'keeps getting changed'更主动、更听起来带有意图感的短语,暗示着这种回避是有意为之,而不是无意的,是对同一种行为更细腻的解读。
    • GRAthe sheer number of half-heard conversations drifting through any café suggests otherwiseThe subject of the clause is expanded with 'sheer' and given a participial phrase ('drifting through any café'), making the sentence more descriptively loaded than 7.0's leaner but structurally similar version.分句的主语用'sheer'扩展了,还加上了一个分词短语('drifting through any café'),让这个句子比7.0那种更精简但结构相似的版本承载了更多的描述性内容。
