6.5 分

The answer states hopes plainly ('I think together we could build something quite good') using a vague intensifier and a single unsubordinated negative sentence, which keeps it clear but linguistically simple.回答平实地表达了期望(‘我觉得我们一起能做出挺不错的成果’),用了一个模糊的程度副词,加上一个没有从属结构的否定句,表达清晰但语言层面简单。

The family member I'd like to work with in the future is my younger sister, Linh. She's studying business in Ho Chi Minh City at the moment.

We haven't really worked together before, apart from small things like helping our parents during Tết, cleaning the house and cooking together. We've never done anything like a real job together.

What I'd like to do with her is open a small online shop, maybe selling clothes or accessories on Shopee. I'm a designer, so I could make the logo, the packaging and the photos look nice, and she's very good with numbers and talking to customers, so she could manage the orders and the money side. I think together we could build something quite good.

The reason I want to work with her is that we trust each other completely, and we both grew up watching our parents run a small business at home, so I think we understand how much effort it takes. Also, we don't get to spend much time together now because she lives so far away, so working on a small project together would be a nice way to stay close, not just talk on Zalo once a week.

  • FCI think together we could build something quite good. This sentence states a hope directly, using the vague hedge "quite good" instead of specifying what success might actually look like, and it closes the paragraph without linking forward to the reasons that follow. That flat, unelaborated closing is characteristic of Band 6.5 coherence — clear and understandable, but a Band 7.0 answer would more likely specify what "good" means or connect it explicitly to the skills described just before it.这句话直接表达了一个愿望,用"quite good"这个模糊的缓和说法,而没有具体说明成功究竟会是什么样子,而且它结束这一段时并没有向前衔接到后面出现的理由。这种平淡、未加展开的收尾正是6.5分连贯性的特征——清楚易懂,但7.0分的答案更可能会具体说明"good"指的是什么,或者明确地把它和前面刚描述的技能联系起来。
  • LRquite good"Quite good" pairs a common intensifier with one of the most general positive adjectives in English, leaving the actual quality of the imagined business entirely unspecified. A Band 7.0 answer would likely replace this with something more concrete or collocational (e.g. "a solid little side business"), but at Band 6.5 this kind of safe, all-purpose phrase is exactly the plain, low-risk vocabulary the tier is built around, keeping the sentence clear even though it says very little."Quite good"把一个常见的强调词和英语里最笼统的正面形容词之一配对使用,让这个想象中的生意到底质量如何完全没有说清楚。7.0分的答案很可能会用更具体或更具搭配感的表达来替换(例如"a solid little side business"),但在6.5分这一档,这种稳妥、万能的说法正是这个分段所依赖的那种朴实、低风险的词汇,即便说得很少,也能让句子保持清晰。
  • GRAWe've never done anything like a real job together. The sentence is a single negative statement with no subordinate clause attached — no "because," no "even though," nothing explaining or qualifying the claim. A Band 7.0 answer might attach a reason or consequence here (e.g. "because we've always lived in different cities"), but on its own this unembellished negative sentence demonstrates the limited structural range that defines Band 6.5 grammar.这句话是一个单独的否定陈述句,没有附加任何从句——没有"because",没有"even though",没有任何解释或限定这个论断的内容。7.0分的答案可能会在这里附上一个理由或后果(比如"因为我们一直住在不同的城市"),但就其本身而言,这个未加修饰的否定句展现出的正是6.5分语法所具有的那种有限的结构广度。
7.0 分

The honest aside 'I also think, selfishly...' and the coordinated clauses building to a comparison ('better than either of us would have done alone') give the answer natural, accurate reflective development.坦诚的插入语“我也有点自私地觉得……”以及层层递进、最终构成比较结构的并列从句(“比我们各自单干要好”),让这个回答具有自然、准确的反思性展开。

The family member I'd like to work with is my cousin Khánh, who's currently training to become a chef at a hotel in Da Nang.

We haven't really worked together before, apart from cooking together at family gatherings, where he usually ends up taking charge of the kitchen while the rest of us just chop vegetables and get in his way. He's a few years younger than me, but he's always been the one with a clear sense of what he wants to do, which honestly I still don't have figured out most of the time.

What I'd like to do with him eventually is open a small restaurant together, something quite specific rather than a general menu — maybe focused on one or two regional dishes done really well, like the bún bò or mì Quảng he grew up eating from our grandmother. He'd obviously handle the cooking, since I can barely manage instant noodles, while I could take care of the branding, the interior design and probably the social media side, since that's closer to what I actually do for work.

The reason I'd like to work with him specifically, rather than just eat at whatever restaurant he ends up running, is that we already argue productively, if that makes sense. When we cook together now, he'll insist on doing something a traditional way, and I'll push back and suggest changing the presentation, and somehow the result is usually better than either of us would have done alone. I also think, selfishly, that working on something together would give us an actual reason to see each other regularly, since right now we mostly just cross paths briefly at Tết and forget to keep in touch the rest of the year.

  • LRwe already argue productivelyThe slightly unusual but natural collocation "argue productively" goes a step beyond everyday vocabulary while remaining clear, fitting Band 7.0 lexical range.“argue productively”(良性争吵)这个略微不寻常却很自然的搭配,比日常词汇更进一步,但依然清晰易懂,符合Band 7.0的词汇广度。
  • FCI also think, selfishly, that working on something together would give us an actual reason to see each other regularlyThe inserted adverb "selfishly" is a small piece of self-critique dropped into the middle of the sentence, acknowledging that the motive isn't purely about the business idea but also about the speaker's own wish for closer contact. This kind of honest, slightly uncomfortable admission goes beyond the safe, single-reason answers typical of Band 6.5, and while it isn't as fully developed as the sustained self-critical reflection a Band 7.5 answer might build around it, it's exactly the reflective aside that lifts Band 7.0 fluency above plain description.插入的副词"selfishly"是嵌在句子中间的一处小小自我批评,承认这个动机并不单纯是出于商业想法,也出于说话人自己渴望更亲密联系的心理。这种诚实、略带不自在的坦白,超越了6.5分典型的那种稳妥、单一理由的答案,虽然还没有发展到7.5分答案可能围绕它构建的持续性自我批评反思那样充分,但它正是把7.0分流利度提升到平铺描述之上的那种反思性插笔。
  • GRAhe'll insist on doing something a traditional way, and I'll push back and suggest changing the presentation, and somehow the result is usually better than either of us would have done aloneThree coordinated clauses (his insistence, the speaker's pushback, the shared outcome) are chained together with "and," and the sentence closes on a comparative structure ("better than either of us would have done alone") that requires tracking a hypothetical alongside the real outcome. That combination of extended coordination and a comparative clause, held together accurately across a long sentence, is the comfortable, generally accurate complexity Band 7.0 grammar targets, well beyond the short, single-clause sentences of Band 6.5.三个并列分句(他的坚持、说话人的反对、共同的结果)用"and"串联在一起,句子最后以一个比较结构("better than either of us would have done alone")收尾,这要求同时追踪一个假设情况和真实结果。这种延伸的并列结构与比较从句的结合,在一个长句中被准确地维系在一起,正是7.0分语法所追求的那种运用自如、总体准确的复杂度,远远超出了6.5分那种简短的单分句句式。
7.5 分

The witty parallel 'I'm like that about pixels' and the closing shift to 'the person who fed me through every university holiday' show the idiomatic economy and reflective coherence that mark genuine Band 7.5.那个诙谐的类比“我对像素也是这样”,以及结尾转向“那个在我大学每个假期都给我做饭吃的人”,共同展现出真正Band 7.5水准的地道简练与反思性连贯。

The family member I'd like to work with is my uncle Minh, my mum's younger brother, who runs a small bún bò Huế restaurant near the Đông Ba market in Hue. It's been going for about fifteen years — twelve tables, a kitchen the size of a wardrobe, and a queue outside most mornings.

We've never really worked together, unless you count the summer I was sixteen and he paid me in noodles to repaint his shop sign. I took it far too seriously, spent three days on the lettering, and he still has that sign, which I think tells you something about both of us.

What I'd actually like to do with him is drag the restaurant online without ruining what makes it work. He gets endless phone orders during the tourist season and writes them on scraps of paper, and half of them go wrong. I've designed ordering systems for clients, so I'd build him a simple one — a menu customers can order from on Zalo, a screen in the kitchen — and I'd give the whole place a proper identity, so the packaging and the sign and the tiny website all feel like the same restaurant.

The reason I'd want to do it with him rather than just for him is that he's the most stubborn perfectionist I know. He'll send a bowl back to his own kitchen if the broth isn't right. I'm like that about pixels. We'd argue constantly, but I think two people who refuse to accept "good enough" in different areas could make something genuinely good. And to be honest, I'd like to give something back to the person who fed me through every university holiday.

  • LRI'm like that about pixelsThe compressed, witty parallel between his cooking standards and the speaker's design standards is a natural, idiomatic economy of expression typical of Band 7.5.把他对烹饪的标准和说话者对设计的标准做了一个凝练诙谐的类比,是一种自然、地道且简练的表达方式,是Band 7.5的典型特征。
  • FCI'd like to give something back to the person who fed me through every university holidayAfter a paragraph explaining the practical, business-oriented reasons for wanting to work with Uncle Minh — modernising his ordering system, building his brand — the final sentence pivots to a purely emotional motivation, framed through the specific, concrete image of being fed 'through every university holiday.' That shift from professional reasoning to personal gratitude, rather than staying in the same register throughout, is the kind of reflective evaluative move the Band 7.5 coherence target rewards, since it shows the speaker organising the answer around a deliberate emotional arc rather than a flat list of reasons. The specific detail about university holidays also grounds the sentiment in something real and remembered.
  • GRAtwo people who refuse to accept "good enough" in different areas could make something genuinely goodThe relative clause 'who refuse to accept "good enough" in different areas' modifies 'two people' and is itself nested inside a broader modal claim about what 'could' result from their collaboration, layering a defining clause inside a hypothetical statement rather than presenting the idea as two separate sentences. That kind of nested complexity, controlled accurately across a longer sentence, is the varied grammar the Band 7.5 target rewards over the simpler cause-effect statements a 7.0 answer would produce. The quoted phrase '"good enough"' — echoing something the speaker imagines Uncle Minh would say about his broth — also ties the abstract claim back to the concrete earlier detail about him sending back his own dishes.

Plain listing sentences joined with commas and 'and', plus the simple connector 'so', give a direct list of business types and one straightforward reason (trust), in everyday vocabulary.平实的列举句用逗号和"and"连接,再加上简单的连接词"so",用日常词汇直接列出了生意类型,并给出了一个简单直接的原因(信任)。

Food businesses are very common, like restaurants, street stalls and bakeries, where every family member has a job to do. There are also traditional trades passed down through generations. For example, I know a street of tailors in Hội An where the grandmother cuts the fabric, her son measures the customers, and a grandchild manages the social media. Small shops, motorbike repair, guesthouses and farms are usually family businesses too. I think the reason is that family gives trust for free, so you do not need much money to start. Some family businesses are big, but most of them are small, with everyone helping out.

    • FCI think the reason is that family gives trust for free, so you do not need much money to start. The reasoning is stated in a flat, separate sentence with the basic connector 'so'. A band 7 answer would more likely integrate this cause-and-effect into the same sentence as the examples, using a phrase like 'What they all share is that...'.这个推理用基本连接词"so"以一个平淡、独立的句子陈述出来。7分段的回答更可能会把这种因果关系整合进与例子相同的句子里,用类似"What they all share is that..."这样的短语。
    • LRthe grandmother cuts the fabric, her son measures the customersThis is simple, literal present-tense description. A higher band answer would likely add a more vivid framing detail, such as describing 'three generations under one roof', to make the same image more precise and memorable.这是一个简单、字面化的现在时描述。更高分段的回答很可能会加上更生动的构建细节,比如描述"three generations under one roof",让同样的意象更精准、更令人难忘。
    • GRASmall shops, motorbike repair, guesthouses and farms are usually family businesses too. This sentence is a simple list followed by a plain verb phrase. A 7.5 answer would likely extend this list with an additional descriptive phrase, such as 'in tourist towns' or 'in the countryside', attached directly without a new clause.这句话是一个简单的列表,后接一个平实的动词短语。7.5分的回答很可能会用额外的描述性短语来扩展这个列表,比如"in tourist towns"或"in the countryside",直接附加上去,而不另起从句。
    7.0 分

The tag 'to be honest' and reflective aside 'I'd say' mark natural spoken fluency, and the sentence about what these businesses share links two reasons with 'and', showing more range than a 6.5 answer's separated sentences.尾词"to be honest"和反思性插入语"I'd say"标志着自然的口语流利度,而关于这些生意共同点的句子用"and"连接了两个原因,比6.5分回答分开的句子展现出更广的范围。

Food is probably the biggest one — restaurants, street stalls, bakeries, that kind of thing, where every family member has their own station. Then there are trades passed down through generations, and I actually know a street of tailors in Hội An where you'll see the grandmother cutting fabric, her son measuring customers and a grandchild running the social media. Small shops, motorbike repair, guesthouses in tourist towns and farms in the countryside tend to be family-run too, to be honest. What they all share, I'd say, is that they need trust more than capital, and family provides that for free. Larger ones exist, of course, but the vast majority are these small, everyone-pitches-in operations.

    • FCtend to be family-run too, to be honestThe trailing tag 'to be honest' softens a generalising claim, a natural spoken habit for signalling a slightly informal opinion. A 6.5 answer would more likely state this as a plain fact without any softening language.尾随的标签"to be honest"软化了一个概括性的论断,是一种标志着略带非正式观点的自然口语习惯。6.5分的回答更可能会把这陈述为一个平实的事实,没有任何软化的语言。
    • LRWhat they all share, I'd say, is that they need trust more than capitalFraming the shared feature as something 'they need... more than capital' is a moderately more abstract, economic way of expressing the idea than a 6.5 answer's simpler 'family gives trust for free'. It shows developing precision in vocabulary.把共同特征构建成"they need... more than capital"是一种比6.5分回答更简单的"family gives trust for free"相当更抽象、更具经济学色彩的表达方式。这展现出用词精准度的发展。
    • GRASmall shops, motorbike repair, guesthouses in tourist towns and farms in the countryside tend to be family-run too, to be honest. This sentence extends a simple list with two prepositional modifiers attached directly to individual items, showing more grammatical control than a 6.5 answer's flatter list. It is not yet as compact as a 7.5 answer's use of apposition for the same kind of detail.这句话用两个直接附加在各个条目上的介词修饰语来扩展一个简单的列表,比6.5分回答更平淡的列表展现出更强的语法控制力。但还没有7.5分回答用同位语来处理同类细节那样紧凑。
    7.5 分

The appositive phrase 'three generations under one roof' compresses a whole extra idea into three words, and the closing list 'small, dense, everyone-pitches-in operations' uses a compact string of modifiers typical of band 7.5's flexible grammar.同位语短语"three generations under one roof"把一整个额外的想法压缩进短短几个词里,而结尾的列表"small, dense, everyone-pitches-in operations"用了一串紧凑的修饰语,是7.5分灵活语法的典型特征。

Food is the big one, I'd say — restaurants, street stalls, bakeries, the kind of place where every family member has a station. Then there are trades handed down through generations: a street of tailors I know in Hội An has the grandmother cutting fabric, her son measuring customers and a grandchild running the social media, three generations under one roof. Small shops, motorbike repair, guesthouses in tourist towns and farms in the countryside are typically family-run as well. What unites them, I think, is that they need trust more than capital, and family supplies trust free of charge. Larger family businesses certainly exist, but the overwhelming majority are these small, dense, everyone-pitches-in operations.

    • FCThen there are trades handed down through generations:The colon here sets up an extended example in one continuous flow rather than starting a completely new sentence, showing tight, deliberate organisation of ideas. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely use a full stop and a separate opening sentence like 'There are also traditional trades'.这里的冒号在一个连续的流程中引出了一个延伸的例子,而不是重新开始一个全新的句子,展现出紧凑、深思熟虑的想法组织。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会用句号,再用一个独立的开篇句,比如"There are also traditional trades"。
    • LRfamily supplies trust free of charge'Free of charge' is a slightly more idiomatic, formal-sounding collocation than the plainer 'for free' a lower band would use, giving the sentence a touch more polish. It shows a marginally wider range of ways to express the same simple idea."Free of charge"是一个略微更地道、听起来更正式的搭配,比低分段会用的更平实的"for free"要精致一点。这展现出表达同一个简单想法的方式略微更广泛。
    • GRAthree generations under one roofThis noun phrase is added directly after the tailor example with no verb or connector, functioning as a compressed appositive summary of the whole anecdote. This kind of verbless compression is characteristic of the flexible, economical grammar expected at band 7.5.这个名词短语直接加在裁缝的例子之后,没有动词或连接词,起到了压缩性同位语的作用,总结了整个轶事。这种无动词的压缩手法是7.5分预期的灵活、简练语法的典型特征。

Short, separate sentences and the plain connector 'so' give a direct claim, a personal example, and a simple summary, all in everyday vocabulary like 'good and bad' and 'very fast answers'.简短、独立的句子,加上平实的连接词"so",给出了一个直接的论断、一个个人例子,以及一个简单的总结,全篇都用日常词汇,比如"good and bad"和"very fast answers"。

I think the biggest effect is that distance does not matter anymore. My design studio in Da Nang works for a client in Germany that we have never met in person. We got the job through a freelance website, we talk on video calls, and we get paid in a currency we never actually see. Ten years ago, that work would have gone to a company in Germany instead. For small businesses, this is both good and bad: a shop can now sell to the whole country through Shopee, but it also has to compete with the whole country. Also, customers now expect very fast answers. So business has become easier to reach but also more tiring.

    • FCSo business has become easier to reach but also more tiring. The conclusion is signalled with the bare connector 'So' as a fresh, final sentence. A band 7 answer would more likely round off the same idea with a phrase like 'Overall, I'd say', giving it a more reflective, spoken finish.结论用赤裸裸的连接词"So"作为一个全新的结尾句来引出。7分段的回答更可能会用"Overall, I'd say"这样的短语来收束同样的想法,给它一个更具反思性、更口语化的结尾。
    • LRthis is both good and bad'Good and bad' is extremely basic, general vocabulary for describing a mixed effect. A higher band answer would likely use a more specific word here, such as 'double-edged', to capture the same contrast more precisely."Good and bad"是极其基础、通用的词汇,用来描述一种混合的影响。更高分段的回答很可能会在这里用一个更具体的词,比如"double-edged",更精准地捕捉同样的对比。
    • GRAWe got the job through a freelance website, we talk on video calls, and we get paid in a currency we never actually see. This sentence lists three facts with the same simple subject-verb pattern repeated, joined by commas and 'and'. A 7.5 answer would likely vary the structure by using nouns instead of repeated clauses, such as 'the meetings are video calls, and payment lands in...'.这句话列举了三个事实,重复用了同样简单的主谓结构,用逗号和"and"连接。7.5分的回答很可能会用名词而不是重复的从句来变化结构,比如"the meetings are video calls, and payment lands in..."。
    7.0 分

The opener 'Honestly, I'd say' and closing 'Overall, I'd say' bookend the answer with natural spoken reflection, while the semicolon-free sentence listing three parallel facts about the German client shows more grammatical range than a 6.5 answer's repeated subject-verb pattern.开篇的"Honestly, I'd say"和结尾的"Overall, I'd say"给整篇回答加上了自然的口语化反思式首尾呼应,而那句列举关于德国客户三个平行事实、没有用分号的句子,比6.5分回答重复的主谓结构展现出更广的语法范围。

Honestly, I'd say they've removed distance as an excuse. My studio in Da Nang currently designs for a client in Germany whom none of us has ever actually met — the brief came through a freelance platform, the meetings are video calls, and payment arrives in a currency we never touch. Ten years ago, that work would probably have gone to a German agency instead. For small businesses the effect is fairly double-edged: a family shop can now sell to the whole country through Shopee, but it also has to compete with the whole country.

    • FCFor small businesses the effect is fairly double-edgedThis phrase names the contrast explicitly with a single evaluative word before explaining it, showing more efficient idea-signalling than a 6.5 answer's flatter 'this is both good and bad'. A 6.5 response would be more likely to state the contrast only through the following example, without naming it first.这个短语用一个评价性的单词明确地点出了这种对比,然后再进行解释,比6.5分回答更平淡的"this is both good and bad"展现出更高效的想法信号传递。6.5分的回答更可能只通过后面的例子来陈述这种对比,而不先点明它。
    • LRTen years ago, that work would probably have gone to a German agency insteadThe modal hedge 'probably' softens a factual-sounding claim in a natural, spoken way, showing awareness that this is a plausible inference rather than a certainty. This is a moderately more sophisticated habit than the flatter, unhedged statement a 6.5 answer tends to make.情态动词式的模糊限制语"probably"以一种自然的口语化方式软化了一个听起来像事实的论断,展现出对"这只是一个合理的推断,而非确定事实"的意识。这是一种相当更精巧的习惯,比6.5分回答倾向于做出的、更平淡、没有限定的陈述要高明。
    • GRAthe brief came through a freelance platform, the meetings are video calls, and payment arrives in a currency we never touchThis list varies its grammar across three parts rather than repeating the same subject-verb pattern three times as a 6.5 answer does. It shows developing sentence variety without reaching full compression.这个列表在三个部分里变化了语法,而不是像6.5分回答那样重复三次相同的主谓结构。这展现出句子多样性的发展,但还没有达到完全压缩的程度。
    7.5 分

The closing phrase 'without a second thought' and the idiomatic aside 'never so much as touch' show precise, natural collocation, while the varied three-part list about the German client avoids any repeated grammatical pattern, typical of band 7.5 range.结尾短语"without a second thought"和地道的插入语"never so much as touch"展现出精准、自然的搭配,而关于德国客户的三段式列表富于变化,避免了任何重复的语法模式,是7.5分范围的典型特征。

They've removed distance as an excuse, essentially. My studio in Da Nang currently designs for a client in Germany none of us has ever met — the brief arrived through a freelance platform, meetings happen over video call, and payment lands in a currency we never so much as touch. A decade ago, that work would have gone to a German agency without a second thought. For small businesses the effect cuts both ways: a family shop can now sell to the whole country through Shopee, but it's competing with the whole country too. Speed has shifted as well, with customers expecting answers within minutes rather than days. Overall, it's made business more accessible and more relentless in roughly equal measure.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCFor small businesses the effect cuts both waysThis idiomatic framing names the contrast in a single vivid image before unpacking it, giving the argument a confident, economical structure. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would be more likely to name the contrast with a plainer word like 'double-edged' or simply describe it without naming it at all.这种地道的构建方式用一个生动的意象点出了对比,然后再展开说明,给论证赋予了自信、简练的结构。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会用更平实的词,比如"double-edged",来点明这种对比,或者干脆不点明就直接描述。
    • LRpayment lands in a currency we never so much as touch'Never so much as touch' is a genuinely idiomatic intensifying structure, going further than the plain 'never touch' a lower band would use. It adds emphasis through a natural, native-like phrase rather than a simple negative statement."Never so much as touch"是一个真正地道的强调结构,比低分段会用的平实的"never touch"更进一步。它通过一个自然、地道的短语来增加强调,而不是一个简单的否定陈述。
    • GRAthe brief arrived through a freelance platform, meetings happen over video call, and payment lands in a currency we never so much as touchEach of the three clauses uses a different grammatical pattern and a different verb, avoiding the repetition a 6.5 answer's parallel structure shows. This deliberate variety across a list is a mark of the flexible range expected at 7.5.这三个从句各自用了不同的语法模式和不同的动词,避免了6.5分回答平行结构所展现出的重复。这种在一个列表内刻意求变的做法,是7.5分预期的灵活范围的标志。
  3. 3. What are the advantages of working for a large company?

This answer states each advantage in its own short sentence connected loosely with 'also', giving concrete examples in plain vocabulary such as 'famous name' and 'good health insurance'.这篇回答用自己独立的短句陈述每一个优势,用"also"松散地连接,并用平实的词汇,比如"famous name"和"good health insurance",给出了具体的例子。

I think the main advantage is resources. A friend of mine works at a big company in the Da Nang tech park, and last year the company sent her to Singapore for two weeks of paid training. My small studio can barely afford a new monitor. Large companies also offer clear career paths, good health insurance, and a famous name that helps you get a job later. It also feels safer because you are one of many employees, so a bad month does not put your job at risk like it would in a small company. But the price is that you own a smaller part of everything you do.

    • FCIt also feels safer because you are one of many employees, so a bad month does not put your job at risk like it would in a small company. The added point starts with the bare word 'also' and links its two halves with 'because' and 'so', a functional but mechanical way of building the argument. A band 7 answer would more likely open with a phrase like 'There's also a kind of safety in...' to integrate the idea more smoothly.这个附加的观点以赤裸裸的"also"开头,再用"because"和"so"连接两半,这是一种有效但机械化的论证构建方式。7分段的回答更可能以"There's also a kind of safety in..."这样的短语开篇,让想法融合得更顺畅。
    • LRa famous name that helps you get a job later'Famous name' and 'helps you get a job later' are plain, literal phrases. A higher band answer would likely use a more idiomatic collocation for the same idea, such as a name that 'opens doors afterwards'."Famous name"和"helps you get a job later"是平实、字面化的短语。更高分段的回答很可能会用更地道的搭配来表达同样的想法,比如一个能"opens doors afterwards"的名字。
    • GRAA friend of mine works at a big company in the Da Nang tech park, and last year the company sent her to Singapore for two weeks of paid training. This sentence joins two facts with 'and', repeating the subject in a straightforward way. A 7.5 answer would likely compress this into a single clause using a passive structure, such as 'was flown to Singapore for two weeks of paid training last year', dropping the repeated subject.这句话用"and"连接了两个事实,以一种直白的方式重复了主语。7.5分的回答很可能会用被动结构把它压缩成一个从句,比如"was flown to Singapore for two weeks of paid training last year",省略重复的主语。
    7.0 分

The reflective opener 'Resources, mainly, I'd say' gives a more considered, spoken start than a 6.5 answer's flat statement, and the sentence about safety links two reasons with 'since' and 'and', showing more grammatical range.反思性的开场"Resources, mainly, I'd say"比6.5分回答平淡的陈述给出了一个更经过深思、更口语化的开头,而关于"安全感"的那句话用"since"和"and"连接了两个原因,展现出更广的语法范围。

Resources, mainly, I'd say. A friend of mine at one of the big firms in the Da Nang tech park was sent to Singapore for two weeks of paid training last year — my own studio can barely afford a new monitor. Large companies tend to offer structured career paths, proper health insurance, and a brand name that opens doors afterwards. There's also a kind of safety in being one of thousands, since a bad quarter doesn't threaten your job the way it would at a five-person studio. And you learn how things are done at scale, which is knowledge you can't really get anywhere else. The price, in my experience, is that you end up owning a smaller piece of anything.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThere's also a kind of safety in being one of thousands, since a bad quarter doesn't threaten your job the way it would at a five-person studio. This sentence integrates the cause with 'since' directly into the same flowing structure as the main claim, rather than splitting it into two separate sentences. A 6.5 answer would more likely present the safety point and its reason as two shorter, separately connected sentences.这句话用"since"把原因直接整合进跟主要论断相同的流畅结构中,而不是把它拆成两个独立的句子。6.5分的回答更可能会把"安全感"这一点和它的原因,呈现为两个更短、分别连接的句子。
    • LRyou learn how things are done at scale'At scale' is a moderately less common, slightly technical collocation compared to simpler phrasing like 'in a big company'. It shows some developing precision in describing an abstract business concept."At scale"是一个相对不太常见、略带技术色彩的搭配,相比更简单的表达如"in a big company"。这展现出在描述一个抽象商业概念时,一定程度精准度的发展。
    • GRAAnd you learn how things are done at scale, which is knowledge you can't really get anywhere else. The relative clause 'which is knowledge you can't really get anywhere else' is attached directly to the main clause, adding an evaluative comment without a new sentence. This shows more complex sentence-building than a 6.5 response's separated statements, though it stops short of the fully compressed structures a 7.5 answer would use.关系从句"which is knowledge you can't really get anywhere else"直接附加在主句上,在不另起一句的情况下加入了评价性评论。这展现出比6.5分回答独立陈述更复杂的句子构建能力,但还没有达到7.5分回答会用的完全压缩结构。

Large companies tend to offer structured career paths, proper health insurance and a brand name that quietly opens doors afterwards. There's also safety in numbers: a bad quarter doesn't threaten your job the way it would at a five-person studio, and you pick up an understanding of how things run at scale that you simply can't acquire anywhere else. The trade-off, in my experience, is that you end up owning a far smaller slice of whatever you make.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThere's also safety in numbers:This idiomatic phrase names the concept in a compact, well-known expression before the colon unpacks it with an example, showing confident, economical organisation of the argument. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely explain the same idea in full sentences rather than compressing it into this familiar phrase.这个地道短语用一个紧凑、广为人知的表达点出了概念,然后再用冒号展开一个例子来解释,展现出自信、简练的论证组织能力。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会用完整的句子来解释同样的想法,而不是把它压缩进这个熟悉的短语。
    • LRyou end up owning a far smaller slice of whatever you make'Slice' used figuratively for a portion of ownership is a genuinely less common, vivid word choice than the plainer 'part' or 'piece' a lower band would default to. It fits naturally with the food-adjacent metaphor while sounding precise rather than decorative."Slice"被用作比喻,指代所有权的一部分,是一个真正不太常见、生动的词语选择,比低分段默认会用的更平实的"part"或"piece"更胜一筹。它自然地契合了与食物相关的隐喻,同时听起来精准而非华而不实。
    • GRAa bad quarter doesn't threaten your job the way it would at a five-person studio, and you pick up an understanding of how things run at scale that you simply can't acquire anywhere elseThis long sentence links two separate advantages with 'and' but nests a further relative clause inside the second half, building layered complexity within one continuous structure. This kind of multi-level embedding without losing clarity is characteristic of the grammatical control expected at 7.5.这个长句用"and"连接了两个独立的优势,但在后半部分里嵌套了一个更进一步的关系从句,在一个连续的结构内构建出多层次的复杂性。这种不失清晰度的多层嵌套,是7.5分预期语法控制力的典型特征。

I think it is because your skills slowly become too specific to one company. A senior designer I worked with stayed at one company for twelve years, and when the company became smaller, he found job interviews very difficult. He was excellent at their software and their way of working, but not good at other things. Changing jobs sometimes forces you to learn new things again, shows you different problems, and is often the best way to get a real pay rise. But I do not think it is always true. If a company keeps giving you new kinds of work, you can grow for twenty years in the same place. The real danger is being too comfortable, not the company itself.

    • FCBut I do not think it is always true. The exception is introduced with the plain connector 'But' as a completely new, short sentence. A band 7 answer would more likely soften and integrate this shift with a phrase like 'That said, I don't think it's a strict rule', building it into the same flow of reasoning.例外情况用平实的连接词"But"引出,作为一个全新的短句。7分段的回答更可能会用"That said, I don't think it's a strict rule"这样的短语来软化并整合这一转折,把它构建进同一个推理流程中。
    • LRhe found job interviews very difficult'Very difficult' is a common intensifier plus adjective pairing. A higher band answer would likely choose a more specific or vivid word for the same idea, such as describing the interviews as 'genuinely painful'."Very difficult"是一个常见的"强调词+形容词"组合。更高分段的回答很可能会为同样的想法选一个更具体或更生动的词,比如把面试描述为"genuinely painful"。
    • GRAHe was excellent at their software and their way of working, but not good at other things. This sentence contrasts two ideas with a simple 'but', using a fairly basic adjective-plus-noun structure on each side. A 7.5 answer would likely use a more compressed, parallel structure without repeating 'at', pairing two adjectives directly before two prepositional phrases.这句话用一个简单的"but"对比了两个想法,两边都用了相当基本的"形容词+名词"结构。7.5分的回答很可能会用一个更压缩的平行结构,不重复"at",把两个形容词直接搭配在两个介词短语前面。
    7.0 分

The opener 'Honestly, I'd say' and the closing tag 'I'd say' bookend this answer with natural spoken reflection, while the long sentence about the senior designer links three ideas with dashes and 'but', showing more range than a 6.5 answer's shorter, separated sentences.开篇的"Honestly, I'd say"和结尾的尾词"I'd say"给这篇回答加上了自然的口语化反思式首尾呼应,而关于资深设计师的那个长句用破折号和"but"连接了三个想法,比6.5分回答更短、分开的句子展现出更广的范围。

Honestly, I'd say it's because your skills quietly narrow to whatever that one company needs. A senior designer I worked with had spent twelve years at a single firm, and when it downsized, he found interviews genuinely painful — he was brilliant at their software and their way of doing things, but rusty at pretty much everything else. Moving occasionally forces you to relearn, exposes you to different problems, and, frankly, is often the only real way to get a decent pay rise. That said, I don't think it's a strict rule, since a company that keeps changing what you work on can let you grow for twenty years in one place. The real danger, I'd say, is comfort, not the company itself.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThat said, I don't think it's a strict rule, since a company that keeps changing what you work on can let you grow for twenty years in one place. The concessive opener 'That said' signals a natural pivot to a qualifying point within the flow of the argument, rather than starting an entirely separate sentence with 'But'. A 6.5 answer would more likely mark this same shift with the plainer 'But I do not think it is always true'.让步性的开场"That said"标志着在论证流程内自然地转向一个限定性的观点,而不是用"But"另起一个完全独立的句子。6.5分的回答更可能会用更平实的"But I do not think it is always true"来标记同样的转折。
    • LRyour skills quietly narrow to whatever that one company needs'Narrow' used as a verb here, paired with the adverb 'quietly', is a moderately more precise, almost literary way of describing skill specialisation than a 6.5 answer's flatter 'become too specific'. It shows developing lexical control without being a rare word."Narrow"在这里被用作动词,搭配副词"quietly",是一种相当更精准、近乎文学化的方式,来描述技能的专精化,比6.5分回答更平淡的"become too specific"要高明。这展现出词汇控制力的发展,同时又不是什么生僻词。
    • GRAhe was brilliant at their software and their way of doing things, but rusty at pretty much everything elseThis contrast uses two single adjectives each followed by a prepositional phrase, a tighter parallel structure than a 6.5 answer's repeated 'good at... not good at'. It shows more economical grammar, though it isn't yet as compressed as a 7.5 answer's version without any repeated preposition.这个对比用了两个单一形容词,各自后接一个介词短语,比6.5分回答重复的"good at... not good at"结构更紧凑。这展现出更简练的语法,但还没有达到7.5分回答那种完全不重复介词的压缩程度。

Because your skills quietly narrow to whatever that one company happens to need. Moving occasionally forces you to relearn, throws you at unfamiliar problems, and, frankly, is often the only realistic route to a decent pay rise. 为什么是这个分数

    • FCThat said, I wouldn't call it a hard rule:The colon here sets up the qualifying explanation as a direct continuation of the same sentence, rather than starting a fresh one, showing tight control over how ideas connect. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely place a full stop here and begin a new sentence to introduce the same exception.这里的冒号把限定性的解释设置为同一句话的直接延续,而不是重新开始一句,展现出对想法之间如何连接的紧密控制力。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会在这里放一个句号,再开始一个新句子来引出同样的例外。
    • LRthe only realistic route to a decent pay rise'Realistic route' is a more precise, slightly idiomatic collocation than the plainer 'best way' or 'only way' a lower band would use. It adds a touch of natural, native-like phrasing to an otherwise ordinary idea."Realistic route"是一个更精准、略带地道色彩的搭配,比低分段会用的更平实的"best way"或"only way"要高明。它为一个原本普通的想法增添了一丝自然、地道的措辞。
    • GRAbrilliant at their software and their particular way of doing things, rusty at nearly everything elseThis structure drops the subject and verb entirely, pairing two bare adjective phrases separated only by a comma, which is a compressed, appositive-style contrast. This answer lists each reason in its own short sentence, joined with 'also', giving a personal example and plain summarising vocabulary such as 'very good at her job' and 'fair thing to want'.这篇回答把每一个原因都写进独立的短句里,用"also"连接,给出了一个个人例子,并用了平实的总结性词汇,比如"very good at her job"和"fair thing to want"。

I think the main reason is that you can never stop being a family member, even at work. A schoolfriend of mine works in her father's pharmacy in Hue, and she says the hardest part is not the working hours, it is that her father still treats her like a teenager, even though she is very good at her job now. In a family business, you might get promoted because of your age in the family, not because of how well you work. Also, if you argue at work, the argument follows you home to dinner. Some people also just want their own identity, not just the family name. I think that is a fair thing to want.

    • FCAlso, if you argue at work, the argument follows you home to dinner. This point is introduced with the plain, standalone connector 'Also' at the start of a fresh sentence. A band 7 answer would more likely fold this into the same sentence as the previous point using 'and', showing a smoother connection between related ideas.这一点用平实、独立的连接词"Also"引出,放在一个新句子的开头。7分段的回答更可能会用"and"把它折进跟前一点相同的句子里,展现出相关想法之间更顺畅的连接。
    • LRshe says the hardest part is not the working hoursThis is a plain, literal phrase. A higher band answer would likely use a more natural, idiomatic collocation for the same idea, such as 'the hardest part isn't the hours' with the contraction and tighter phrasing typical of spoken fluency.这是一个平实、字面化的短语。更高分段的回答很可能会用更自然、更地道的搭配来表达同样的想法,比如"the hardest part isn't the hours",带有缩略形式和更紧凑的措辞,是口语流利度的典型特征。
    • GRAIn a family business, you might get promoted because of your age in the family, not because of how well you work. This sentence contrasts two reasons using the repeated structure 'because of', which is accurate but slightly repetitive. A 7.5 answer would likely vary the vocabulary and structure on each side of the contrast, using different nouns like 'birth order and personality' versus 'performance'.这句话用重复的结构"because of"来对比两个原因,这个说法准确,但略显重复。7.5分的回答很可能会在对比的两边变化用词和结构,用不同的名词,比如"birth order and personality"对"performance"。
    7.0 分

The opener 'Honestly, I'd say' and closing tag 'either' give this answer natural spoken rhythm, while the sentence linking birth order, personality and disagreements with 'and' shows more range than a 6.5 answer's separated points.开篇的"Honestly, I'd say"和结尾的尾词"either"给这篇回答加上了自然的口语节奏,而用"and"连接出生顺序、性格和争执的那句话,比6.5分回答分开的观点展现出更广的范围。

Honestly, I'd say it's that you never really get to clock off from being a relative. A schoolfriend of mine works in her father's pharmacy in Hue, and she says the hardest part isn't the hours — it's that her dad still treats her like the fifteen-year-old who broke the cash register, no matter how competent she's actually become. In a family business, promotion tends to depend on birth order and personality rather than performance, and disagreements at work have a habit of following you home to dinner. There's often no clear moment when the older generation actually lets go, either. Some people also just want their own identity, separate from the family name, which seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to want.

    • FCThere's often no clear moment when the older generation actually lets go, either. The trailing 'either' ties this new point back to the string of difficulties just listed, showing an awareness of cumulative argument-building typical of band 7 coherence. A 6.5 answer would more likely introduce this point with a fresh 'Also' instead of this more natural linking tag.尾随的"either"把这个新观点与刚刚列举的一连串困难联系起来,展现出对"累积式论证构建"的意识,这是7分段连贯性的典型特征。6.5分的回答更可能会用一个新的"Also"来引出这一点,而不是这种更自然的连接尾词。
    • LRpromotion tends to depend on birth order and personality rather than performance'Rather than' is a moderately more sophisticated contrastive structure than the repeated 'because of... not because of' a 6.5 answer uses, and 'birth order' is a more precise, specific term than 'age in the family'. This shows developing lexical precision."Rather than"是一个相当更精巧的对比结构,比6.5分回答用的重复的"because of... not because of"要高明,而"birth order"是一个比"age in the family"更精准、更具体的说法。这展现出词汇精准度的发展。
    • GRAIn a family business, promotion tends to depend on birth order and personality rather than performance, and disagreements at work have a habit of following you home to dinner. This sentence links two separate difficulties with 'and' inside one flowing structure, rather than presenting them as two short separate sentences as a 6.5 answer would. It is not yet as compact as a 7.5 answer's use of varied vocabulary and rhetorical closing tags for the same content.这句话用"and"在一个流畅的结构内连接了两个独立的困难,而不是像6.5分回答那样把它们呈现为两个短的独立句子。但还没有达到7.5分回答用多样化词汇和修辞性结尾尾词处理同样内容那样紧凑。
    7.5 分

The idiomatic closing tag 'and who could blame them' and the vivid verb 'trailing' give this answer a natural, evaluative finish typical of band 7.5, alongside the concessive structure 'however competent she's since become'.地道的结尾尾词"and who could blame them"和生动的动词"trailing",给这篇回答一个自然、具有评价性的结尾,是7.5分典型的特征,再加上让步结构"however competent she's since become"。

Because you never get to clock off from being a relative, essentially. A schoolfriend of mine works in her father's pharmacy in Hue, and the hardest part, she says, isn't the hours — it's that her dad still sees her as the fifteen-year-old who broke the cash register, however competent she's since become. Promotion in a family business tends to ride on birth order and personality rather than performance, and disagreements at work have a way of trailing you home to dinner. There's rarely a clean moment when the older generation actually steps back, either. Some people, quite reasonably, just want an identity separate from the family name — and who could blame them.

    • FCand who could blame themThis short rhetorical closing tag invites agreement from the listener, adding a natural, conversational final flourish that goes beyond simply stating an opinion. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely end the same point flatly with something like 'that is a fair thing to want'.这个简短的修辞性结尾尾词邀请听者认同,增添了一个自然、对话式的结尾点睛之笔,超越了单纯陈述观点。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会用类似"that is a fair thing to want"这样平淡的方式来结束同样的观点。
    • LRhave a way of trailing you home to dinner'Trailing' used here to describe disagreements following someone is a more vivid, slightly literary word choice than the plainer 'follow' a lower band would default to, echoing an image of something persistently tagging along. It adds precision and a touch of personality to the sentence."Trailing"在这里被用来描述争执"跟随"某人,是一个更生动、略带文学色彩的词语选择,比低分段默认会用的更平实的"follow"要高明,呼应了某种东西持续跟着不放的意象。这为句子增添了精准度和一丝个性。
    • GRAhowever competent she's since becomeThis concessive clause is compressed using 'however' plus an adjective rather than a fuller structure like 'no matter how competent she has become', dropping words while keeping the meaning clear. This kind of economical concessive phrasing is characteristic of the flexible grammar expected at 7.5.这个让步从句用"however"加一个形容词进行了压缩,而不是用更完整的结构如"no matter how competent she has become",省略了一些词但保留了清晰的意思。这种简练的让步式措辞,是7.5分预期灵活语法的典型特征。

Short, separate sentences connected with 'also' and 'so' present each advantage one at a time, using plain vocabulary such as 'check the money carefully' and 'feels meaningful'.简短、独立的句子用"also"和"so"连接,一次呈现一个优势,用词平实,比如"check the money carefully"和"feels meaningful"。

I think the biggest advantage is loyalty that you cannot buy with money. A few years ago, tourism stopped for a couple of months, and my uncle's restaurant survived because his wife and two nephews worked without pay until customers came back. A normal employee would probably not do that. There is also more trust, so nobody needs to check the money carefully. Decisions can be made quickly around the kitchen table, instead of through many managers. The business also feels meaningful, because you are building something that will last after you. Younger family members also learn the business as they work. The only problem is that all of this only works if the family gets along well.

    • FCThere is also more trust, so nobody needs to check the money carefully. This point is added with the bare 'also' and linked to its consequence with the plain connector 'so'. A band 7 answer would more likely open with a phrase like 'There's also trust involved, so...' but fold the reasoning more tightly into one continuous idea rather than two separate short clauses.这一点用赤裸裸的"also"添加,并用平实的连接词"so"连接到它的结果。7分段的回答更可能以"There's also trust involved, so..."这样的短语开篇,但会把推理更紧密地折进一个连续的想法中,而不是两个独立的短句。
    • LRso nobody needs to check the money carefullyThis is plain, literal vocabulary describing the idea of financial trust. A higher band answer would likely use a more specific, idiomatic phrase for the same concept, such as 'nobody needs to count the till'.这是描述财务信任这一想法的平实、字面化词汇。更高分段的回答很可能会用一个更具体、更地道的短语来表达同样的概念,比如"nobody needs to count the till"。
    • GRAThe business also feels meaningful, because you are building something that will last after you. This sentence uses a simple 'because' clause to explain the meaning point. A 7.5 answer would likely replace 'will last after you' with a more precise verb like 'outlast', and link the idea with 'since' inside a longer, more flowing sentence about several combined advantages.这句话用一个简单的"because"从句来解释"意义"这一点。7.5分的回答很可能会用一个更精准的动词,比如"outlast",来代替"will last after you",并用"since"把这个想法连接进一个更长、更流畅、涵盖了几个综合优势的句子里。

The reflective opener 'The main one, I'd say' and closing aside 'to be honest' give this answer natural spoken framing, while the sentence linking kitchen-table decisions and meaning with 'and... since...' shows more grammatical range than a 6.5 answer's shorter sentences.反思性的开场"The main one, I'd say"和结尾的插入语"to be honest"给这篇回答加上了自然的口语化构建,而用"and... since..."连接厨房决策和意义感的那句话,比6.5分回答更短的句子展现出更广的语法范围。

The main one, I'd say, is loyalty that money simply can't buy. When tourism collapsed for a couple of months a few years back, my uncle's restaurant survived because his wife and two nephews just worked without pay until customers came back — no ordinary employee would do that. There's also trust involved, so nobody really needs to count the till. Decisions get made quickly around a kitchen table rather than through three levels of management, and the business carries a certain sense of meaning, since you're building something that will outlast you. For younger members there's an apprenticeship built in too. The flip side, to be honest, is that all of this depends on the family actually getting along.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe flip side, to be honest, is that all of this depends on the family actually getting along. The aside 'to be honest' softens this concluding, slightly critical observation, a natural spoken habit for closing an argument on a balanced note. A 6.5 answer would more likely state this final point flatly as 'The only problem is that all of this only works if the family gets along well'.插入语"to be honest"软化了这个略带批评意味的结尾观察,是一种以平衡的方式收尾论证的自然口语习惯。6.5分的回答更可能会平淡地陈述这个最后观点,比如"The only problem is that all of this only works if the family gets along well"。
    • LRno ordinary employee would do thatThis phrase is direct but slightly more idiomatic than a 6.5 answer's flatter equivalent, using 'ordinary employee' as a natural contrastive category. It sits between the very plain vocabulary of 6.5 and a more vivid word choice a 7.5 answer might reach for.这个短语直接,但比6.5分回答更平淡的对应表达略微更地道,用"ordinary employee"作为一个自然的对比类别。它介于6.5分非常平实的词汇和7.5分回答可能会用的更生动的词语选择之间。
    • GRADecisions get made quickly around a kitchen table rather than through three levels of management, and the business carries a certain sense of meaning, since you're building something that will outlast you. This long sentence links two separate advantages using 'rather than' and 'and... since...', combining ideas that a 6.5 answer keeps in shorter, separate sentences. It shows developing complexity, though it stops short of the further compression a 7.5 answer achieves by cutting the transition words further.这个长句用"rather than"和"and... since..."连接了两个独立的优势,把6.5分回答保持在更短、独立句子里的想法结合了起来。这展现出复杂性的发展,但还没有达到7.5分回答那种进一步削减过渡词所实现的压缩程度。

The main one is loyalty that money simply can't buy. When tourism collapsed for a couple of months a few years back, my uncle's restaurant pulled through because his wife and two nephews worked without pay until customers trickled back — no ordinary employee would ever do that. There's trust built in too: nobody needs to count the till. Decisions get made around a kitchen table rather than filtered through three layers of management, and the whole enterprise carries a sense of meaning, since you're building something meant to outlast you. For younger members, an apprenticeship comes free with the job. The flip side, of course, is that every one of these depends on the family actually getting along.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe flip side, of course, is that every one of these depends on the family actually getting along. The aside 'of course' presents the qualifying downside as an expected, almost self-evident observation rather than a surprising addition, showing confident control over how the argument is framed. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely mark this same point with a plainer or more hesitant tag.插入语"of course"把这个限定性的缺点呈现为一个预料之中、近乎不言而喻的观察,而不是一个令人意外的补充,展现出对论证如何被构建的自信控制力。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会用一个更平淡或更犹豫的标签来标记同样这一点。
    • LRcustomers trickled back'Trickled back' is a genuinely less common, vivid verb choice for describing a slow return of customers, more precise and image-rich than the plainer 'came back' a lower band would use. It suggests a gradual process rather than a sudden one."Trickled back"是一个真正不太常见、生动的动词选择,用来描述客人缓慢回归的过程,比低分段会用的更平实的"came back"更精准、更富画面感。它暗示了一个渐进的过程,而不是突然发生的过程。

I think the two biggest changes will be about location and what counts as a real job. My studio now only goes to the office two days a week, and I do not think that will change back, because the tools for working from different places are very good now. Another change is that AI is now doing a lot of the simple work that young workers used to do, like first drafts and basic layouts. In my own work, I now spend more time deciding what to make and less time actually making it. This probably means fewer jobs for beginners, which worries me for young people in the future. People will also probably need to have several careers, not just one.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThis probably means fewer jobs for beginners, which worries me for young people in the future. The consequence is stated directly with the plain phrase 'This probably means', giving a straightforward cause-and-effect link. A band 7 answer would more likely introduce a similar conclusion with a more natural spoken frame like 'That probably means... which honestly worries me', adding a reflective tag.结果用平实的短语"This probably means"直接陈述出来,给出了一个直白的因果链接。7分段的回答更可能会用更自然的口语化构建,比如"That probably means... which honestly worries me",加上一个反思性的尾词,来引出类似的结论。
    • LRAI is now doing a lot of the simple work'Simple work' is a general, plain description. A higher band answer would likely name the specific tasks more precisely, such as 'first drafts, routine layouts', to show more concrete, developed vocabulary."Simple work"是一个通用、平实的描述。更高分段的回答很可能会更精准地点出具体任务,比如"first drafts, routine layouts",展现出更具体、更成熟的词汇。
    • GRAMy studio now only goes to the office two days a week, and I do not think that will change back, because the tools for working from different places are very good now. This sentence chains three clauses together with 'and' and 'because' in sequence, which is accurate but linear. A 7.5 answer would likely break the reasoning off with a dash instead of 'because', creating a punchier, more flexible structure.这句话用"and"和"because"依次把三个从句串联在一起,这个说法准确,但很线性。7.5分的回答很可能会用破折号而不是"because"来打断推理,创造出一个更有力、更灵活的结构。

I think the two biggest changes are around location and what actually counts as a job. My studio has already moved to two office days a week, and honestly I can't see that reversing, since the tools for working apart are just too good now. The other big shift is that a lot of what junior people currently do — first drafts, routine layouts — is being handed over to AI. In my own work, I now spend more time deciding what to build and less time actually drawing it.

    • FCand honestly I can't see that reversingThe aside 'honestly' signals a personal, confident judgement folded directly into the sentence, which is a natural spoken habit associated with band 7 fluency. A 6.5 answer would more likely state this as a separate, plainer sentence: 'I do not think that will change back'.插入语"honestly"标志着一个个人化、自信的判断被直接折进了句子里,这是一种与7分段流利度相关的自然口语习惯。6.5分的回答更可能会把这陈述为一个独立、更平淡的句子:"I do not think that will change back"。
    • LRarrive experienced from day one'Arrive experienced' is a moderately compact, slightly idiomatic phrase compared to a more literal alternative like 'already have experience'. It shows developing precision in expressing an abstract workplace expectation."Arrive experienced"是一个相当紧凑、略带地道色彩的短语,相比更字面化的替代表达"already have experience"。这展现出在表达一种抽象的职场期望时,精准度的发展。
    • GRAThe other big shift is that a lot of what junior people currently do — first drafts, routine layouts — is being handed over to AI.The dash-set list inserts concrete examples directly inside the sentence without a separate connecting word like 'such as' or 'like'. This is more flexible than a 6.5 answer's use of 'like' to introduce examples, though it stops short of fully varying the surrounding sentence structure the way a 7.5 answer would.用破折号设置的列表,在句子内部直接插入了具体的例子,没有用像"such as"或"like"这样独立的连接词。这比6.5分回答用"like"来引出例子的做法更灵活,但还没有像7.5分回答那样完全改变周围的句子结构。
    7.5 分

The rhetorical phrase 'what even counts as a job any more' and the closing balanced clause 'whether they choose to or not' give this answer a polished, evaluative edge, while the dash after 'reversing' replaces a full explanatory clause with a punchier break typical of band 7.5.修辞性短语"what even counts as a job any more",以及结尾平衡的从句"whether they choose to or not",给这篇回答带来了一种精致、具有评价性的锋芒,而"reversing"后面的破折号用一个更有力的停顿代替了一个完整的解释性从句,是7.5分典型的特征。

The two biggest, I'd say, are location and what even counts as a job any more. My studio has already settled into two office days a week, and I can't see that reversing — the tools for working apart are simply too good now. The other shift is that a lot of what junior people currently handle, first drafts, routine layouts, is quietly being handed over to AI. In my own work, I now spend far more time deciding what to build and correspondingly less drawing it myself. That probably spells fewer entry-level jobs and mounting pressure to arrive experienced from day one, which genuinely worries me on behalf of the next generation. People will likely end up cycling through several careers rather than settling into one, whether they choose to or not.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCwhich genuinely worries me on behalf of the next generationThis closing clause extends a personal reaction with the more considered phrase 'on behalf of', framing the worry as concern for others rather than simple personal anxiety. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely state a flatter version of the same worry without this extra layer of framing.这个结尾从句用更经过深思的短语"on behalf of"延伸了一个个人化的反应,把这种担忧构建成对他人的关切,而不是单纯的个人焦虑。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会陈述同样担忧的一个更平淡的版本,没有这层额外的构建。
    • LRquietly being handed over to AIThe adverb 'quietly' modifying 'handed over' adds a subtle, almost ominous nuance to an otherwise neutral statement about automation, a more evaluative word choice than a lower band's plain phrasing. It shows a genuinely more expressive use of vocabulary.修饰"handed over"的副词"quietly",为一个原本中性的关于自动化的陈述,增添了一种微妙的、近乎不祥的色彩,比低分段平实的措辞更具评价性。这展现出真正更具表现力的词汇运用。

This answer builds its argument through short, separate sentences joined with 'but' and 'so', giving a direct claim, a personal example, and a simple concluding contrast in plain, everyday vocabulary.这篇回答通过用"but"和"so"连接的简短、独立的句子来构建论证,给出了一个直接的论断、一个个人例子,以及一个简单的、用平实日常词汇写成的结尾对比。

It can be, but I do not think it always has to be. I have a friend who works at a big bank in Ho Chi Minh City, and she says she only really knows the eight people on her floor. But she says that small group feels warm and friendly, so the other five thousand employees do not really matter to her daily life. I think what makes a company impersonal is not its size, it is the process. When every request needs a ticket and every decision needs a committee, people start to feel less like people. Some big companies handle this well, and some small companies handle it badly. So I think size makes it easier to be impersonal, but it is not always true.

    • FCSo I think size makes it easier to be impersonal, but it is not always true. The conclusion is introduced with the plain connector 'So' at the start of a new, final sentence. A band 7 answer would more likely fold this same conclusion into the flow using a phrase like 'So I'd say scale makes impersonality easy, not inevitable', giving a tighter, more considered close.结论用平实的连接词"So"引出,放在一个全新的结尾句开头。7分段的回答更可能会用类似"So I'd say scale makes impersonality easy, not inevitable"这样的短语,把同样的结论融进整体流程,给出一个更紧凑、更经过深思的结尾。
    • LRshe says that small group feels warm and friendly'Warm and friendly' is common, everyday descriptive vocabulary. A higher band answer would likely use a more compact, idiomatic phrase for the same idea, such as 'a perfectly warm little world'."Warm and friendly"是常见的日常描述性词汇。更高分段的回答很可能会用一个更紧凑、更地道的短语来表达同样的想法,比如"a perfectly warm little world"。
    • GRAWhen every request needs a ticket and every decision needs a committee, people start to feel less like people. This is a single, clearly structured conditional sentence with a parallel 'every... needs...' pattern, which is accurate and functional. A band 7.5 answer would likely replace the repeated 'needs' with two different verbs, such as 'goes through a ticket' and 'through a committee', for less repetitive, more natural phrasing.这是一个单一、结构清晰的条件句,带有平行的"every... needs..."模式,准确且实用。7.5分的回答很可能会用两个不同的动词来代替重复的"needs",比如"goes through a ticket"和"through a committee",让措辞更少重复、更自然。

The tag 'honestly' and the closing 'So I'd say' give this answer natural spoken reflection beyond a 6.5 response's flatter statements, and the colon before the ticket/committee example shows a more flexible way of introducing an explanation.尾词"honestly"和结尾的"So I'd say",在6.5分回答更平淡的陈述之外,给这篇回答加上了自然的口语化反思,而"工单/委员会"例子前面的冒号展现出一种更灵活的引出解释的方式。

It can be, but I don't think it has to be, honestly. A friend of mine who works at one of the big banks in Ho Chi Minh City says she only really knows the eight people on her floor, and that's actually a perfectly warm little world of its own — the other five thousand employees might as well be a different company. What makes a large company impersonal, I'd say, isn't size at all, it's process: when every request goes through a ticket and every decision through a committee, people stop feeling like people. Some large firms manage that well, and some small ones manage it badly. So I'd say scale makes impersonality easy, not inevitable.

    • FCIt can be, but I don't think it has to be, honestly. The trailing 'honestly' softens and personalises the opening claim, a natural spoken habit that goes beyond the flatter, unhedged version a 6.5 answer gives. It signals the speaker's own conviction rather than simply stating a fact.尾随的"honestly"软化并个人化了开篇论断,是一种超越6.5分回答更平淡、无限定版本的自然口语习惯。它标志着说话者自己的确信,而不只是陈述一个事实。
    • LRthat's actually a perfectly warm little world of its own'A perfectly warm little world of its own' is a moderately more vivid, idiomatic image than the plainer 'feels warm and friendly' a 6.5 answer uses, describing the small group with more personality and precision."A perfectly warm little world of its own"是一个相当更生动、更地道的意象,比6.5分回答用的更平淡的"feels warm and friendly"要高明,用更有个性、更精准的方式描述了这个小圈子。
    • GRAWhat makes a large company impersonal, I'd say, isn't size at all, it's process: when every request goes through a ticket and every decision through a committee, people stop feeling like people. This long sentence uses a colon to introduce the explanation directly, and drops the repeated verb in the second half rather than repeating 'goes through'. This shows more grammatical range than a 6.5 answer's fully repeated pattern, though it isn't as consistently varied as a 7.5 response.这个长句用冒号直接引出解释,并在后半部分省略了重复的动词,而不是重复"goes through"。这比6.5分回答完全重复的模式展现出更广的语法范围,但还没有7.5分回答那样始终如一地富于变化。
    7.5 分

The dropped verb in 'every decision through a committee' and the closing phrase 'in other words' show the compressed, connective grammar typical of band 7.5, alongside the vivid contrastive verbs 'manage that gracefully' and 'fumble it badly'.在"every decision through a committee"中省略掉的动词,以及结尾短语"in other words",展现出7.5分典型的压缩、连接性语法,再加上生动的对比动词"manage that gracefully"和"fumble it badly"。

It can be, though I don't think it has to be. A friend of mine at one of the big banks in Ho Chi Minh City says she only really knows the eight people on her floor, and that's a perfectly warm little world in itself — the other five thousand employees might as well work for a different company entirely. What makes a large company impersonal, I'd argue, isn't size at all, it's process: when every request goes through a ticket and every decision through a committee, people stop feeling like people. Some large firms manage that gracefully, and plenty of small ones fumble it badly. Scale, in other words, makes impersonality easy, not inevitable.

    • FCScale, in other words, makes impersonality easy, not inevitable. The phrase 'in other words' signals a confident, compact restatement of the whole argument's conclusion, tying the answer together economically. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely reach the same final idea through a plainer connector like 'So' rather than this more sophisticated summarising tag.短语"in other words"标志着对整个论证结论的一种自信、紧凑的重述,简练地把整篇回答串联在一起。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会通过一个更平实的连接词,比如"So",来达到同样的最终想法,而不是这种更精巧的总结性尾词。
    • LRplenty of small ones fumble it badly'Fumble' is a genuinely less common, vivid verb choice for mishandling something, far more precise and image-rich than the plain 'handle it badly' a lower band would use. It pairs naturally with the contrasting 'manage that gracefully' just before it."Fumble"是一个真正不太常见、生动的动词选择,用来表示处理不当,比低分段会用的平实的"handle it badly"要精准、富有画面感得多。它跟前面对比的"manage that gracefully"自然地配对。
    • GRASome large firms manage that gracefully, and plenty of small ones fumble it badly. This sentence pairs two different, precisely chosen verbs across a parallel structure, rather than repeating the same verb 'handle' as a 6.5 or 7.0 answer does. This kind of varied, non-repetitive parallelism is characteristic of the lexical and grammatical range expected at 7.5.这句话在一个平行结构中配对了两个不同的、精心挑选的动词,而不是像6.5分或7.0分回答那样重复同一个动词"handle"。这种富于变化、不重复的平行结构,是7.5分预期词汇和语法范围的典型特征。
  9. 9. Will there be no place for small businesses in the future?

    6.5 分

Plain, separate sentences with 'but' and 'so' present a direct opinion, one concrete example (the coffee stall), and a simple prediction, using everyday vocabulary throughout.平实、独立的句子用"but"和"so"呈现了一个直接的观点、一个具体例子(咖啡摊),以及一个简单的预测,全篇都用日常词汇。

I do not think small businesses will disappear, but maybe they will be different in the future. There is a small coffee stall outside my office that has survived longer than two chain coffee shops on the same street, because the owner remembers every regular customer's order, and the big chains could not compete with that. Big companies are usually better at price and convenience, but small businesses are better at character, speed, and personal relationships, and people still want those things. What will probably change is that small businesses will need big platforms like Shopee, Grab, and Zalo to find customers. So they will feel independent, but actually depend on these platforms. I think there will be fewer small businesses, but not zero.

    • FCSo they will feel independent, but actually depend on these platforms. This conclusion is introduced with the plain connector 'So' as a fresh, separate sentence, stating the idea directly. A band 7 answer would more likely fold the same idea into the previous sentence using 'so they'll end up...', linking cause and consequence more smoothly.这个结论用平实的连接词"So"引出,作为一个全新、独立的句子,直接陈述这个想法。7分段的回答更可能会用"so they'll end up..."把同样的想法折进前一句话中,更顺畅地连接因果关系。
    • LRthe owner remembers every regular customer's orderThis is direct, simple vocabulary. A higher band answer would likely choose a slightly more natural phrasing, such as 'the owner knows every regular's order', which reads more like natural spoken English than the fuller, more formal version.这是直接、简单的词汇。更高分段的回答很可能会选择略微更自然的表达,比如"the owner knows every regular's order",读起来比更完整、更正式的版本更像自然的口语英语。
    • GRABig companies are usually better at price and convenience, but small businesses are better at character, speed, and personal relationships, and people still want those things. This sentence repeats the structure 'X are better at Y' on both sides of the contrast, which is accurate but somewhat repetitive. A 7.5 answer would likely drop the repeated verb on the second side, using a semicolon instead of 'but' for a tighter, more economical contrast.这句话在对比的两边都重复了"X are better at Y"结构,这个说法准确,但有点重复。7.5分的回答很可能会在第二边省略重复的动词,用分号而不是"but"来达到一个更紧凑、更简练的对比。
    7.0 分

The opener 'I'm fairly sure' and closing 'I doubt there'll ever be none' frame this answer with natural spoken reflection, and the dash-set list of platform names shows a more flexible way of adding detail than a 6.5 answer's plainer listing.开篇的"I'm fairly sure"和结尾的"I doubt there'll ever be none"给这篇回答加上了自然的口语化反思式框架,而用破折号设置的平台名称列表,比6.5分回答更平实的列举展现出更灵活的加入细节的方式。

I'm fairly sure there'll always be a place for them, though perhaps a different one from now. Outside my office there's a tiny coffee stall that has outlived two chain coffee shops on the same block, simply because the owner knows every regular's order and the chains couldn't compete on that. Big companies tend to win on price and convenience, whereas small ones win on character, speed and relationships, and people keep wanting those things regardless. What will probably change is that small businesses increasingly need the big platforms — Shopee, Grab, Zalo — just to reach customers, so they'll end up independent in spirit but dependent in practice. Fewer of them, maybe, but I doubt there'll ever be none.

    • FCthough perhaps a different one from nowThis trailing qualifying phrase softens the confident opening claim with a note of nuance, a natural spoken habit of hedging a strong statement. A 6.5 answer would more likely state the same idea as a separate, flatter sentence: 'but maybe they will be different in the future'.这个尾随的限定短语,用一丝细微差别软化了自信的开篇论断,是一种给强烈陈述加限定语的自然口语习惯。6.5分的回答更可能会把同样的想法陈述为一个独立、更平淡的句子:"but maybe they will be different in the future"。
    • LRthe chains couldn't compete on that'Compete on that' is a natural, moderately idiomatic collocation, slightly more compact than a 6.5 answer's fuller phrasing 'could not compete with that'. It shows developing fluency in using prepositions naturally with abstract nouns."Compete on that"是一个自然、相当地道的搭配,比6.5分回答更完整的措辞"could not compete with that"略微更紧凑。这展现出在配合抽象名词自然使用介词方面,流利度的发展。
    • GRABig companies tend to win on price and convenience, whereas small ones win on character, speed and relationships, and people keep wanting those things regardless. This sentence uses 'whereas' instead of 'but' for the main contrast and drops the repeated word 'businesses' on the second side, showing more grammatical variety than a 6.5 answer's fully repeated pattern. It is not yet as tightly compressed as a 7.5 answer's semicolon-based version of the same contrast.这句话用"whereas"代替"but"来做主要对比,并在第二边省略了重复的词"businesses",比6.5分回答完全重复的模式展现出更多的语法多样性。但还没有像7.5分回答用分号处理同一个对比那样紧密压缩。
    7.5 分

The semicolon in 'Big companies tend to win on price and convenience; small ones win on character, speed and relationships' drops the connector entirely for a tighter contrast, and the closing three-word sentence shows the compact, evaluative punch typical of band 7.5."Big companies tend to win on price and convenience; small ones win on character, speed and relationships"中的分号,完全省去了连接词,达到了更紧密的对比,而结尾三个词的短句展现出7.5分典型的紧凑、具有评价性的力度。

I'm fairly confident there'll always be a place for them, though quite possibly a different one from the one they occupy now. Outside my office sits a tiny coffee stall that has quietly outlived two chain coffee shops on the same block, purely because the owner remembers every regular's order and the chains never could compete on that. Big companies tend to win on price and convenience; small ones win on character, speed and relationships, and people show no sign of losing their appetite for those. What's likely to change is that small businesses will increasingly rely on the big platforms — Shopee, Grab, Zalo — just to be found at all, so they'll end up independent in spirit but dependent in practice. Fewer, perhaps, but never none.

    • FCFewer, perhaps, but never none. This extremely short closing sentence delivers the whole answer's final judgement in a compact, almost aphoristic form, rounding off the argument with confident economy. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely spell out the same idea in a fuller sentence, such as 'I think there will be fewer small businesses, but not zero'.这个极其简短的结尾句,以一种紧凑、近乎格言式的形式传递了整篇回答的最终判断,以自信而简练的方式收束了论证。6.5分或7.0分的回答更可能会用一个更完整的句子来拼写出同样的想法,比如"I think there will be fewer small businesses, but not zero"。
    • LRpeople show no sign of losing their appetite for those'Appetite' used figuratively to describe ongoing demand is a genuinely less common, vivid word choice than the plainer 'still want those things' a lower band would use. It adds a slightly idiomatic, image-rich texture to the sentence."Appetite"被用作比喻,来描述持续的需求,是一个真正不太常见、生动的词语选择,比低分段会用的更平实的"still want those things"要高明。它为句子增添了略带地道色彩、富有画面感的质感。
    • GRABig companies tend to win on price and convenience; small ones win on character, speed and relationshipsThe semicolon joins the two contrasting halves without any connecting word at all, relying on parallel structure alone to signal the contrast. This kind of connector-free, punctuation-based compression is characteristic of the flexible grammar expected at 7.5.分号在没有任何连接词的情况下,把两个对比的部分连接在一起,单单依靠平行结构来传递对比信号。这种不用连接词、依赖标点的压缩手法,是7.5分预期灵活语法的典型特征。
