6.5 分

The 6.5 answer describes each cue-card point with short, plain sentences ('We used to do a lot of things together after school') and simple time markers, giving a clear but modest account typical of Band 6.5.Band 6.5 的答案用简短朴素的句子来描述提示卡上的每个要点(比如'我们放学后经常一起做很多事情'),并使用简单的时间标记词,呈现出 Band 6.5 清楚但展开有限的叙述方式。

The childhood friend I remember well is a boy called An, who lived on the same street as me in Hue. We became friends when we were about seven years old, in primary school, because we sat next to each other in class.

We used to do a lot of things together after school. Our favourite game was hide and seek around the small alleys near our houses, and sometimes we rode our bicycles to Dong Ba market just to look around, even though we never had much money to buy anything. In summer, we also caught small fish in the stream behind his house, although we always let them go afterwards.

When we were about thirteen, An's family moved to Da Nang because of his father's job, and after that we didn't see each other so often. We still message occasionally on Zalo now, but not very much.

I remember him well because he was my first real friend outside my family, and we had so much fun doing very simple, cheap things. Whenever I go back to Hue and walk past those old alleys, I still think of him and those carefree afternoons we spent together as children.

  • LRcarefree afternoons'Carefree afternoons' pairs two ordinary words into a phrase that plainly sums up the nature of the childhood memories, without reaching for a more varied or literary way of describing that time. A 7.0 answer might replace this with a more specific phrase tied to a particular activity; a 7.5 answer might use something more figurative. Here the phrase closes the answer with a clear, familiar summary that matches the simple, common lexical choices expected at Band 6.5, while still accurately describing the hide-and-seek and fishing memories described earlier.'Carefree afternoons' 把两个普通的词组合成一个短语,平实地概括了童年记忆的本质,而没有寻求更多样或更具文学色彩的方式来描述那段时光。Band 7.0的答案可能会把这个短语换成一个与具体活动相关联的更具体的说法;Band 7.5的答案则可能使用更具比喻色彩的表达。这里这个短语用一个清晰、熟悉的总结为答案收尾,符合Band 6.5所期望的那种简单、常见的词汇选择,同时依然准确地描述了前文提到的捉迷藏和钓鱼的记忆。
  • FCWe became friends when we were about seven years old, in primary school, because we sat next to each other in class. This sentence delivers three pieces of information — age, setting, reason — in a single straightforward chronological line, answering the implicit 'how did you meet' question directly without pausing for reflection or evaluation. A 7.0 answer would likely add a brief personal reaction to this same information; a 7.5 answer might restructure the opening around a more reflective frame. Here the plain, sequential narration gives clear but minimal development, the direct storytelling style that defines Band 6.5 — accurate and on-topic, without added interpretive layers.
  • GRAalthough we always let them go afterwardsA single 'although'-clause is added onto the simple sentence about catching fish, providing one small qualifying detail — the fish were released, not kept — without further subordination or restructuring. A 7.0 answer would likely combine this with an additional reason clause in the same sentence; a 7.5 answer might integrate the qualification more centrally. This modest addition is accurate and functional, representing the kind of basic-to-moderate complexity Band 6.5 grammar typically reaches, while adding a small humanising detail about the childhood memory.

The 7.0 answer adds a touch more reflection, such as noting the friendship 'wasn't really a choice' but geography, and links events with natural connectors like 'looking back' and 'honestly', while grammar stays accurate but not highly varied.Band 7.0 的答案多加了一点反思,比如指出这段友情'其实算不上什么选择',更多是地理位置使然,并用'现在回想起来''说实话'这类自然的连接词把事件串联起来,语法依然准确但还不算特别丰富多样。

The childhood friend I remember best is Thảo, who lived right next door to us in Hue. We must have been around six when we became friends, and it wasn't really a choice - our houses shared a low wall, and her mum and my grandmother used to talk over it most evenings while the two of us climbed up and down it.

What we did together was, looking back, completely pointless but great fun. One summer our big project was a pretend bánh bèo stall in her front yard - we filled bottle caps with mud, put a leaf on top to look like shrimp, and 'sold' them to anyone who walked past in exchange for pebbles. We also spent a lot of time by the Perfume River, mostly failing to fly a kite that her uncle had made for us. She was the braver one; I remember her wading into the river in her school uniform to rescue it, and getting told off afterwards.

When we were twelve, her family moved to Nha Trang because of her father's job, and we gradually drifted apart, the way kids often do. We're still connected on Zalo now, but we probably send about twenty messages a year, if that.

I think I remember her so clearly because she was the first person who made me feel that being a bit shy was completely fine. I was the quiet one, she did most of the talking, and somehow it worked really well. Honestly, I still find myself comparing new friendships to that one - whether the other person is happy just sitting around doing something silly with me, without needing a reason.

  • FCit wasn't really a choice - our houses shared a low wallThis sentence interrupts what could have been a simple factual statement — 'we became friends when we were six' — with a small reflective aside about the mechanism behind the friendship, proximity rather than deliberate choice, adding interpretation to a plain fact. A 6.5 answer would likely state only the fact of becoming friends without this aside; a 7.5 answer might develop the idea further into a broader observation about childhood friendships. This kind of small but genuine reflective addition, rather than just more facts, is exactly the fuller development 7.0 rewards, setting up the shared-wall detail that follows.
  • LRdrifted apart'Drifted apart' is a mildly figurative collocation, borrowing the image of objects separating slowly in water or air, applied to a friendship fading gradually, rather than a flat literal phrase like 'we didn't see each other much.' A 6.5 answer would very likely use that plainer alternative; a 7.5 answer might extend the figurative language even further. Here the phrase captures the gradual, no-fault nature of the separation — reinforced by 'the way kids often do' immediately after — more precisely than a literal description would, the flexible vocabulary beyond plainest choices that 7.0 targets.'Drifted apart'是一个带有轻微比喻色彩的搭配,借用了物体在水中或空气中缓缓分离的意象,用来形容一段友谊逐渐淡去,而不是像'we didn't see each other much'这样平白的字面表达。6.5分的答案极有可能会用那种更朴素的说法;7.5分的答案则可能把这种比喻性语言进一步延伸。这里这个短语捕捉到了这种疏远逐渐发生、不带任何一方过错的性质——紧接着的'the way kids often do'又加以强化——比字面描述更为精准,正是7.0分所追求的那种超越最朴素选项的灵活词汇。
  • GRAWe must have been around six when we became friendsThe modal perfect 'must have been' expresses a confident but not entirely certain guess about the narrator's age, rather than stating it as a flat fact ('We were six'), combined with a 'when'-clause establishing the friendship's starting point. A 6.5 answer would likely simplify this to a direct statement without the modal of deduction; a 7.5 answer might vary the opening further, perhaps with an inverted structure. This accurate, natural use of a modal perfect alongside a time clause is comfortable complexity typical of 7.0, capturing the realistic uncertainty of recalling childhood memories.

The 7.5 answer uses a vivid aside ('I remember her wading into the river in her school uniform to rescue it') and a closing reflective generalisation about friendship, the kind of developed, evaluative detail typical of Band 7.5.Band 7.5 的答案用了一个生动的插入细节('我还记得她穿着校服蹚进河里去捞风筝'),并在结尾对友情做了一个反思性的概括,这种展开充分、带有评价色彩的细节正是 Band 7.5 的典型特征。

The childhood friend I remember most clearly is Thảo, the girl who lived next door to us in Hue. We must have been about six when we became friends, and honestly it wasn't a choice so much as geography — our houses shared a low wall, and her mum and my grandmother used to chat over it every evening while the two of us climbed up and down it.

What we did together was, looking back, wonderfully pointless. Our big project one summer was a pretend bánh bèo stall in her front yard. We'd fill bottle caps with mud, add a leaf on top as the shrimp, and sell them to whoever walked past for pebbles. We also spent a lot of time on the bank of the Perfume River, mostly failing to fly a kite her uncle had made. She was the braver one — I remember her wading into the river in her school uniform to rescue it, and getting a proper telling-off afterwards.

When we were twelve, her family moved to Nha Trang for her dad's work, and we sort of drifted apart the way kids do. We're connected on Zalo now, but we've probably exchanged twenty messages in ten years.

I think I remember her so well because she was the first person who made me feel that being a bit shy was fine. I was the quiet one, she did the talking, and it worked. To be honest, I still catch myself measuring new friendships against that — whether the other person is happy to just sit and do something silly with me without needing a reason.

为什么是这个分数

  • GRAI remember her wading into the river in her school uniform to rescue itThe participial phrase "wading into the river" functions as an object complement after "remember her," compressing what would otherwise need a full clause ("I remember how she waded into the river") into a tighter, more economical structure -- the kind of flexible clause type the 7.5 grammar descriptor specifically names. A Band 6.5 or 7.0 speaker would more likely break this into two separate sentences. The detail "in her school uniform" is also folded into the same clause rather than tacked on afterward, showing the structure isn't just grammatically correct but efficiently packed with information.分词短语"wading into the river"在"remember her"之后充当宾语补足语,把本来需要一整个从句才能表达的内容("I remember how she waded into the river")压缩成一个更紧凑、更经济的结构——这正是7.5分语法描述语特别点名的那种灵活从句类型。6.5或7.0分的说话者更可能把它拆成两句话。细节"in her school uniform"也被折叠进同一个分句里,而不是事后补加上去的,这说明这个结构不仅语法正确,而且信息压缩得很高效。
  • LRwonderfully pointlessPairing a positive-sounding intensifier ("wonderfully") with a negative-sounding adjective ("pointless") creates a small, controlled contradiction that native speakers use to express fond nostalgia -- a genuinely less-common collocation rather than a safe, predictable pairing like "really fun" that a Band 6.5 or 7.0 candidate would default to. It takes confidence to use, since getting the tone wrong could sound like criticism of the memory rather than affection for it. The phrase also sets the emotional register for the whole paragraph, where the mud-shrimp stall and the failed kite are described with the same self-aware humour.
  • FCI still catch myself measuring new friendships against thatThis closing line moves from a childhood anecdote to an admission about present-day behaviour, using the idiomatic construction "catch myself [doing something]" to signal an almost involuntary habit -- a reflective connection between past and present that is precisely the evaluative depth the 7.5 descriptor asks for rather than a plain description. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would likely end simply with how the friendship faded, without drawing this present-tense conclusion. It also gives the whole P2 answer a shape: it starts with geography ("a low wall") and ends with an internal standard the speaker still uses today.

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion and one plain example, joined by simple connectors like 'but', 'because' and 'so', with no attempt at hedged or reflective language.这篇6.5分的答案直接给出观点,并用一个简单的例子来支撑,句子之间用“but”、“because”、“so”这类简单的连接词衔接,没有尝试使用委婉或反思性的表达。

I think children can make friends in a lot of places, but school is the main one. They also make friends in places like the playground, because they play together without adults telling them what to do. For example, near my apartment, I often see kids sharing a scooter for a few minutes and then they act like old friends. So I'd say children make friends more easily when there's an activity to do together, not just when adults put them in the same room.

    • FCSo I'd sayA short, plain connector used to signal the concluding opinion. It keeps the answer moving forward but does it in the most basic way; a 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely use a softer, more spoken opener like 'Honestly' or 'To be fair' instead of jumping straight to 'so'.这是一个简短朴素的连接词,用来引出结论性的观点。它让答案继续往下推进,但方式最为基础;7.0或7.5分的答案更可能使用像“Honestly”或“To be fair”这样更柔和、更口语化的开头,而不是直接跳到“so”。
    • LRact like old friendsA modest, everyday collocation that gets the meaning across without any real precision. A higher band would reach for something more specific and idiomatic, such as behaving 'as if they've known each other for years', which paints a clearer picture of the same idea.这是一个朴素、日常的搭配,能传达意思,但并不精确。更高分段会选用更具体、更地道的表达,比如“as if they've known each other for years”(好像已经认识多年),这能把同样的意思描绘得更清晰。
    • GRAbecause they play together without adults telling them what to doA single because-clause doing all the explanatory work, with no further subordination. A 7.5 answer would likely compress this into a participial or relative clause instead, packing more information into fewer words rather than stacking short clauses end to end.这里只用了一个because从句来承担全部解释的功能,没有进一步的从属结构。7.5分的答案很可能会把这压缩成一个分词短语或关系从句,用更少的词容纳更多信息,而不是把短句一句接一句地堆叠起来。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with the natural spoken hedge 'Honestly, I'd say' and adds a mild qualifying remark ('To be fair, I don't think the exact place matters that much'), while building one longer sentence around a relative clause to connect the playground example to the wider point.这篇7.0分的答案以自然的口语化缓冲语“Honestly, I'd say”开头,并加入了一句温和的限定说明(“To be fair, I don't think the exact place matters that much”),同时围绕一个关系从句构建了一个较长的句子,把游乐场的例子和更宏观的论点连接起来。

Honestly, I'd say it happens wherever kids are left alone together for long enough. School is the obvious answer, but the friendships that form fastest tend to be in places without much structure, like the playground below my building, where two children can share a scooter for ten minutes and then behave as if they've known each other for years. Extracurricular classes work well too, because there's an activity to focus on instead of just talking. To be fair, I don't think the exact place matters that much — what matters is that no adult is managing the interaction.

    • FCTo be fair, I don't think the exact place matters that muchA natural spoken qualifier that gently revises the answer's own claim mid-flow. This kind of self-correcting reflection is typical of band 7.0 — a 6.5 answer would simply state its opinion once and move on, while a 7.5 answer would usually fold the same idea into the main sentence rather than flagging it separately.这是一个自然的口语化限定语,在表达过程中温和地修正了答案自身的论点。这种自我修正式的反思是7.0分段的典型特征——6.5分的答案通常只陈述一次观点就继续往下讲,而7.5分的答案则通常会把同样的想法直接融入主句,而不是单独标出来。
    • LRbehave as if they've known each other for yearsA more developed, natural-sounding collocation than the plain 'act like old friends' a 6.5 answer might use, showing a step up in phrasing without reaching for anything unusual. A 7.5 answer would likely go further still, choosing a less common word somewhere in the sentence for extra precision.这是一个比6.5分答案可能使用的朴素说法“act like old friends”更成熟、更自然的搭配,显示出措辞上的进步,但又没有刻意使用生僻的表达。7.5分答案很可能会更进一步,在句子中的某处选用一个不太常见的词,以获得更高的精确度。
    • GRAwhere two children can share a scooter for ten minutes and then behave as if they've known each other for yearsA relative clause ('where...') carrying a further subordinate 'as if' clause inside it, which is more structurally ambitious than the short, separate sentences typical of 6.5. It still reads as one manageable idea, though, rather than the more compressed, fronted constructions a 7.5 answer tends to use.这里的关系从句(“where...”)内部还嵌套了一个“as if”从句,这种结构比6.5分典型的简短独立句更有野心。不过它读起来仍然是一个容易理解的整体,而不像7.5分答案那样倾向于使用更压缩、前置的结构。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens with the idiomatic 'left to their own devices' and closes with a compact, almost aphoristic line — 'Children, in other words, make friends over something, rather than with someone' — showing a flexibility of phrasing and structure the plainer bands don't attempt.这篇7.5分的答案以地道习语“left to their own devices”(放任自流)开头,并以一句简练、近乎格言式的结语收尾——“Children, in other words, make friends over something, rather than with someone”——展现出更朴素分段不曾尝试的措辞与结构上的灵活性。

Mostly wherever they're left to their own devices long enough, I'd say. School is the obvious setting, but the friendships I notice forming fastest happen somewhere unstructured — the playground beneath my apartment block, say, where two kids will share a scooter for ten minutes and then behave as though they've known each other for years. Extracurricular classes work too, whether it's swimming or a drawing club, since there's a shared activity to hide behind. What matters less, I suspect, is the venue itself, and more the absence of an adult steering things. Children, in other words, make friends over something, rather than with someone.

    • FCWhat matters less, I suspect, is the venue itself, and more the absence of an adult steering things.A fronted, cleft-like construction that organises the whole argument around a single contrast, rather than adding a separate qualifying sentence the way a 7.0 answer does. It shows the speaker shaping the discourse rather than just adding ideas one after another, which is characteristic of the top band.这是一种前置的、近似分裂句的结构,围绕一个单一的对比来组织整个论证,而不是像7.0分答案那样另加一句限定说明。这体现出说话者在主动构建话语,而不只是一个接一个地罗列想法,这正是最高分段的特征。
    • LRleft to their own devicesAn idiomatic phrase used naturally and accurately, well beyond the plain vocabulary of the lower bands. A 6.5 or 7.0 answer would more likely use a literal phrase such as 'left alone together', which says the same thing with far less precision or colour.这是一个使用得自然又准确的习语,远超低分段朴素的词汇水平。6.5或7.0分答案更可能使用像“left alone together”这样字面化的表达,虽然意思相同,但精确度和色彩都要逊色得多。
    • GRAChildren, in other words, make friends over something, rather than with someone.A compressed, parallel construction built around 'rather than' that lands as a deliberate closing point. Lower bands tend to end on a plain restatement of the opinion instead of this kind of tightly balanced, slightly aphoristic sentence.这是一个围绕“rather than”构建的压缩式平行结构,作为一个刻意设计的结语出现。较低分段往往以简单重述观点来结尾,而不是使用这种结构紧凑、略带格言意味的句子。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer gives a direct yes/no opinion up front and supports it with one simple, chronological anecdote about Vy, using plain connectors like 'and', 'so' and 'but' throughout.这篇6.5分的答案一开始就直接给出是/否的观点,并用一个关于阿薇的简单、按时间顺序展开的小故事来支撑,全程使用“and”、“so”、“but”这类朴素的连接词。

Yes, I think it's quite easy for most children, easier than for adults. My younger sister Vy changed schools when she was nine, and by the end of her first week she already had a best friend. They both had the same kind of pencil case, and that was enough. Children don't worry about looking silly, so they make friends fast. But it's not the same for every child — shy children can find it harder, I think.

    查看中文翻译

    是的,我觉得对大多数孩子来说这相当容易,比成年人容易得多。我妹妹阿薇九岁时转学,到第一周结束时她就已经交到了一个最好的朋友。她们俩用的是同一款铅笔盒,这就足够了。孩子们不担心显得傻气,所以交朋友很快。但并不是每个孩子都是这样——我觉得害羞的孩子可能会觉得更难一些。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCYes, I think it's quite easy for most childrenA direct, unhedged opening answer typical of 6.5 — the position is stated immediately with no softening. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would likely delay or qualify this slightly, for instance by adding 'honestly' or comparing it to adults within the same breath rather than as a separate clause.这是6.5分典型的直接、不加缓冲的开场回答——立场立刻被陈述出来,没有任何软化。7.0或7.5分答案可能会稍微延迟或限定这一点,比如加上“honestly”,或者把与成年人的比较直接融入同一句话,而不是作为单独的从句。
    • LRdon't worry about looking sillyPlain, everyday vocabulary that conveys the idea clearly but without any specific or idiomatic flavour. A higher band would likely replace this with a more precise expression such as 'no fear of looking desperate', which names the exact feeling rather than a general one.这是朴素的日常词汇,能清楚传达意思,但没有任何具体或地道的色彩。更高分段可能会用更精确的表达来替换,比如“no fear of looking desperate”(不怕显得急切),这准确点出了具体的感受,而不是笼统的说法。
    • GRAand by the end of her first week she already had a best friendA simple coordinated clause added on with 'and', keeping the grammar safe and linear. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to compress this into a single flowing sentence using a participle or an inserted clause, rather than adding fact after fact with basic conjunctions.这是一个用“and”附加上去的简单并列分句,语法安全且呈线性展开。7.5分答案更可能把这压缩成一个流畅的句子,使用分词或插入从句,而不是用基础连词把事实一条接一条地加上去。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer adds the reflective aside 'honestly, far easier than for adults' and a mild qualifier ('That said, it isn't universal'), while using one moderately complex sentence that links the parents' worry to the surprising speed of the friendship with 'but'.这篇7.0分的答案加入了反思性的插入语“honestly, far easier than for adults”,以及一个温和的限定语(“That said, it isn't universal”),同时用一个中等复杂度的句子,通过“but”把父母的担心和友谊形成的惊人速度连接起来。

For most children, yes — honestly, far easier than for adults. My younger sister Vy switched schools at nine, and my parents were worried about it for weeks, but by the Friday of her first week she'd already found a best friend, apparently on the strength of a matching pencil case. Kids don't really run the same risk assessments we do as adults, so there's less fear of looking desperate. That said, it isn't universal — shy children, or ones who've moved between very different environments, can genuinely struggle.

    对大多数孩子来说,是的——说实话,比成年人容易得多。我妹妹阿薇九岁时转学,我父母为此担心了好几个星期,但到她第一周的周五,她就已经交到了一个最好的朋友,据说全靠一个同款的铅笔盒。孩子们不会像我们成年人那样做各种“风险评估”,所以不太担心显得急切。不过话说回来,这并不是普遍现象——害羞的孩子,或者经历过环境剧变的孩子,确实可能会更艰难。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThat said, it isn't universalA natural spoken qualifier that pulls back from the general claim just made, showing the kind of self-aware reflection typical of 7.0. A 6.5 answer usually states its exception as a separate, blunter sentence ('But it's not the same for every child'), while a 7.5 answer tends to weave the same caveat more tightly into the surrounding sentence.这是一个自然的口语化限定语,从刚刚提出的普遍性论断中稍作后退,体现出7.0分典型的自我觉察式反思。6.5分答案通常会把例外情况作为一个独立、更直白的句子来陈述(“But it's not the same for every child”),而7.5分答案则倾向于把同样的保留意见更紧密地织入周围的句子中。
    • LRon the strength of a matching pencil caseA moderately idiomatic collocation ('on the strength of') that upgrades the plain '...and that was enough' phrasing a 6.5 answer might use. It's a noticeable step toward more natural, less literal vocabulary, though not as unusual as the phrasing a 7.5 answer would reach for.这是一个中等地道程度的搭配(“on the strength of”),把6.5分答案可能使用的朴素表达“...and that was enough”提升了一个层次。这是朝着更自然、不那么字面化的词汇迈出的明显一步,但还没有达到7.5分答案会使用的那种不寻常表达。
    • GRAmy parents were worried about it for weeks, but by the Friday of her first week she'd already found a best friend, apparently on the strength of a matching pencil caseA longer sentence joining two contrasting ideas with 'but' and adding a trailing modifying phrase at the end. This is more ambitious than the short, separate sentences of 6.5, though it still relies on a fairly ordinary coordinating structure rather than the fronted or compressed forms a 7.5 answer favours.这是一个较长的句子,用“but”连接两个对比的想法,并在末尾加上一个修饰性的附加短语。这比6.5分那种简短、独立的句子更有野心,但仍然依赖于相当普通的并列结构,而不是7.5分答案偏爱的前置或压缩形式。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the less common verb 'fretted' and the vivid 'landed a best friend', and closes with an evaluative observation about adults noticing only the sociable kids, giving the answer a reflective edge the plainer bands don't reach for.这篇7.5分的答案使用了不太常见的动词“fretted”(忧心忡忡)和生动的表达“landed a best friend”(找到了一个最好的朋友),并以一句评价性的观察结尾——成年人往往只注意到那些合群的孩子——赋予了答案朴素分段所达不到的反思深度。

For most children, remarkably easy — far easier than it ever is for adults. My sister Vy switched schools at nine, and while my parents fretted about it for weeks, she'd landed a best friend by the Friday of her first week, picked, as far as I can tell, on the basis of a matching pencil case. Kids simply don't run the risk assessments adults do; there's no fear of coming across as desperate. That isn't universal, though — shy children, or those shunted between very different environments, can find it genuinely hard, and I think adults underestimate that because it's the loud, sociable kids who get noticed.

    • FCThat isn't universal, though — shy children, or those shunted between very different environments, can find it genuinely hard, and I think adults underestimate that because it's the loud, sociable kids who get noticed. The caveat isn't just added on but extended into a small argument of its own, ending on an observation about why adults miss it. A 6.5 answer would state the exception in a single short sentence and stop there, without this extra layer of reasoning.这里的保留意见不只是被简单地附加上去,而是被延展成了一个小小的独立论证,最后以一句关于成年人为何会忽视这一点的观察收尾。6.5分答案会用一个简短的句子陈述例外情况,然后就此打住,不会有这层额外的推理。
    • LRfretted about it for weeksA less common, more expressive verb choice than the plain 'worried' a 6.5 or 7.0 answer would use in the same spot. It signals a wider active vocabulary without sounding forced.这是一个比6.5或7.0分答案在同样位置可能使用的朴素词“worried”更不常见、更具表现力的动词选择,显示出更广的主动词汇量,同时又不显得刻意。
    • GRAKids simply don't run the risk assessments adults do; there's no fear of coming across as desperate.A semicolon links two closely related independent clauses into one flowing unit instead of two separate sentences, a more flexible construction than the plainer bands attempt. Lower bands would more likely split this into 'Kids don't do this. So there's no fear of...' with a basic connector.这里用一个分号把两个关系密切的独立分句连接成一个流畅的整体,而不是分成两个独立的句子,这是比朴素分段更灵活的结构。较低分段更可能把这拆成“Kids don't do this. So there's no fear of...”,用一个基础的连接词来处理。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer gives a direct opinion ('I think it's important, but not necessary for every child') and supports it with one plain counter-example, using the simple connector 'but' to introduce the exception.这篇6.5分的答案直接给出观点(“I think it's important, but not necessary for every child”),并用一个朴素的反例来支撑,用简单的连接词“but”来引出例外情况。

I think it's important, but not necessary for every child. A best friend gives a child someone to trust and someone to argue with and make up with, which is a useful skill. But I know a colleague whose daughter doesn't have one single best friend — she has four or five close friends instead — and she's still very confident. So maybe what matters is having at least one close friend, not exactly one 'best' friend.

    查看中文翻译

    我觉得这很重要,但对每个孩子来说并不是必需的。一个最好的朋友能给孩子一个可以信任、也可以争吵后又和好的对象,这是一项有用的技能。但我认识一位同事,她女儿没有一个单独的“最好的朋友”——而是有四五个亲密的朋友——她依然非常自信。所以也许真正重要的是至少有一个亲密的朋友,而不一定非得是一个“最好的”朋友。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo maybe what matters isA plain, direct way of signalling the final point, using the basic hedge 'maybe'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely use a softer, more natural hedge such as 'I'd say' or 'I suspect' placed earlier in the sentence rather than tacked on with 'maybe'.这是一种朴素、直接的方式来引出最后的观点,使用了基础的缓冲词“maybe”。7.0或7.5分答案更可能使用更柔和、更自然的缓冲表达,比如把“I'd say”或“I suspect”放在句子更靠前的位置,而不是用“maybe”附加在后面。
    • LRsomeone to argue with and make up withA plain, literal description of the function of a best friend. A higher band would likely name this more precisely with a word like 'practise', turning the idea into a skill being learned rather than just a list of things a friend does.这是对“最好的朋友”功能的一种朴素、字面化的描述。更高分段可能会用像“practise”(练习)这样的词更精确地表达,把这个想法转化为一种正在被学习的技能,而不只是列举朋友会做的事情。
    • GRAshe has four or five close friends instead — and she's still very confidentTwo short clauses joined loosely with 'and', kept grammatically simple. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to fold this into a single non-finite clause, such as 'cycling instead through a loose circle', to say the same thing more compactly.这里用“and”松散地连接了两个简短的分句,语法保持简单。7.5分答案更可能把这压缩进一个单一的非限定分句,比如“cycling instead through a loose circle”,用更紧凑的方式表达同样的意思。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens the opinion with 'I'd say, but maybe not essential' and adds the reflective aside about why parents can't teach the same lesson, using a since-clause to link two ideas in one longer sentence.这篇7.0分的答案用“I'd say, but maybe not essential”来软化观点,并加入了一段关于父母为何无法教会同样道理的反思性插入语,用一个since从句把两个想法连接进一个更长的句子里。

Important, I'd say, but maybe not essential. A best friend gives a child a safe space to practise things like trust and making up after an argument, which is hard to learn from parents, since parents more or less have to forgive you anyway. On the other hand, a colleague of mine has a daughter who's never had one single best friend — just a rotating circle of four or five — and she's one of the more socially confident kids I know. So I think what really matters is having at least one bond where the child feels chosen.

    • FCImportant, I'd say, but maybe not essential.A hedged opening that states a position while immediately softening it, a step up from the flatter 'I think it's important' a 6.5 answer would use. It signals a speaker weighing the claim rather than simply announcing it.这是一个带有缓冲语气的开头,在陈述立场的同时立刻加以软化,比6.5分答案可能使用的更平直的“I think it's important”更进了一步。这表明说话者是在权衡这个论断,而不只是单纯地宣布它。
    • LRa rotating circle of four or fiveA more natural collocation than the plain 'four or five close friends instead' phrasing a 6.5 answer might use, giving the same idea a slightly more vivid shape without becoming unusual.这是一个比6.5分答案可能使用的朴素表达“four or five close friends instead”更自然的搭配,让同样的想法有了稍微更生动的形态,同时又不显得不寻常。
    • GRAwhich is hard to learn from parents, since parents more or less have to forgive you anywayA relative clause followed by a since-clause, stacking two layers of explanation into one sentence rather than presenting them as separate short statements. This is more structurally developed than 6.5's simple coordination, though still a fairly standard combination.这里是一个关系从句后面跟着一个since从句,把两层解释叠加进一个句子,而不是把它们作为独立的简短陈述分开呈现。这在结构上比6.5分那种简单的并列更为发展成熟,不过仍然是相当标准的组合方式。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer reaches for the vivid collocation 'a safe testing ground' and compresses the counter-example into a participial phrase ('cycling instead through a loose circle of four or five'), rather than the separate clauses a lower band would use for the same idea.这篇7.5分的答案选用了生动的搭配“a safe testing ground”(安全的试验场),并把反例压缩进一个分词短语(“cycling instead through a loose circle of four or five”),而不是像低分段那样用独立的分句来表达同样的想法。

Important, yes, though I wouldn't call it essential. A best friend gives a child a safe testing ground for things like trust, arguing and making up — lessons that are hard to learn from parents, who more or less have to forgive you. Then again, a colleague's daughter has never settled on a single best friend, cycling instead through a loose circle of four or five, and she's one of the most socially confident kids I've met. So what seems to matter is having at least one close bond in which a child feels genuinely chosen, whether that comes from one person or a small group probably just depends on temperament.

    • FCThen again, a colleague's daughter has never settled on a single best friendA natural spoken pivot ('Then again') that turns the argument in a new direction, doing more discourse work than the plainer 'But' a 6.5 answer relies on for the same shift. It signals genuine back-and-forth reasoning rather than a simple list of points.这是一个自然的口语化转折语(“Then again”),把论证转向新的方向,比6.5分答案在同样转折处依赖的朴素“But”承担了更多的话语功能。它体现出真正的来回权衡式推理,而不是简单地罗列要点。
    • LRa safe testing ground for things like trust, arguing and making upA vivid, slightly less common collocation ('testing ground') standing in for the plain 'a place to practise' a lower band would likely use, adding precision and a touch of imagery to an abstract idea.这是一个生动、稍微不常见的搭配(“testing ground”),代替了低分段可能使用的朴素说法“a place to practise”,为一个抽象的概念增添了精确性和一丝意象感。
    • GRAcycling instead through a loose circle of four or fiveA participial phrase compressing what a 6.5 answer would state as a full separate clause ('she has four or five close friends instead'). This kind of non-finite construction packs more information into fewer words, which is characteristic of the most flexible band.这是一个分词短语,压缩了6.5分答案会用一个完整独立分句来表达的内容(“she has four or five close friends instead”)。这种非限定结构用更少的词容纳了更多信息,是最高灵活度分段的特征。

The 6.5 answer states one clear reason up front, backs it up with a single plain anecdote about Quân, and adds one more simple point using 'also', keeping every sentence short and direct.这篇6.5分的答案开门见山地陈述了一个明确的理由,并用一个关于阿军的朴素小故事来支撑,然后用“also”加了一个简单的补充点,每个句子都保持简短直接。

The main advantage is that older friends have already made the mistakes you're about to make. When I finished university, a friend called Quân, who is three years older than me, helped me practise for my first job interview in a café in Da Nang. He asked me questions I would never have thought of myself. Older friends are also usually calmer about things that feel big to you. The only problem is that it can start to feel more like a teacher and student than real friendship.

    最主要的好处是,年长的朋友已经犯过你即将要犯的错误。我大学毕业时,一位叫阿军(Quân)的朋友,比我大三岁,在岘港的一家咖啡馆里帮我练习了第一次求职面试。他问了我一些自己绝对想不到的问题。年长的朋友通常对那些在你看来很严重的事情也更加从容。唯一的问题是,这段关系有时候感觉更像师生关系,而不是真正的友谊。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCThe main advantage is thatA plain, formulaic opener that announces the point directly, typical of how a 6.5 answer organises ideas — one clear statement, then an example. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely fold the same idea straight into the first sentence without this labelling phrase.这是一个朴素、公式化的开场白,直接宣告要点,是6.5分答案组织思路的典型方式——先一个明确的陈述,再举一个例子。7.0或7.5分答案更可能把同样的想法直接融入第一句,而不需要这种标签式的短语。
    • LRhelped me practise for my first job interviewA plain, functional verb phrase that names the action without much colour. A higher band would likely use a more vivid verb like 'rehearsed' or 'talked me through it', which suggests more effort and detail than the neutral 'helped me practise'.这是一个朴素、功能性的动词短语,只是说明了动作,没有太多色彩。更高分段可能会使用更生动的动词,比如“rehearsed”或“talked me through it”,这暗示了比中性的“helped me practise”更多的用心和细节。
    • GRAa friend called Quân, who is three years older than me, helped me practise for my first job interview in a café in Da NangA relative clause ('who is three years older than me') inserted into an otherwise simple sentence — a safe, standard way of adding extra information. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to reorder this as an appositive noun phrase for a more compact effect.这里插入了一个关系从句(“who is three years older than me”)在一个原本简单的句子中——这是一种安全、标准的补充信息方式。7.5分答案更可能把它重新组织成一个同位语名词短语,以达到更紧凑的效果。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer drops straight into the answer with 'Mainly that...' instead of a full framing sentence, and adds the natural aside 'which is oddly reassuring', while using an if-clause to state the one downside as a conditional rather than a flat fact.这篇7.0分的答案直接以“Mainly that...”切入答案,而不是用一个完整的框架句,并加入了自然的插入语“which is oddly reassuring”,同时用一个if从句把唯一的缺点表述为条件情况,而不是一个平铺直叙的事实。

Mainly that they've already made the mistakes you're about to. When I was finishing university, a friend three years older than me, Quân, sat me down in a Da Nang café and basically talked me through my first job interview, including questions I'd never have thought to prepare for. You can't really get that from someone your own age. Older friends also tend to stay calmer about things that feel enormous to you at the time, which is oddly reassuring. The only downside, I'd say, is that the relationship can tip into mentoring rather than friendship if you're not careful.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCYou can't really get that from someone your own age.A short, punchy follow-up sentence that reinforces the point through contrast rather than just adding a new fact, giving the answer a more conversational rhythm than the straightforward listing style of 6.5.这是一个简短有力的后续句子,通过对比来强化论点,而不只是添加一个新事实,这让答案有了比6.5分那种直白罗列式风格更具对话感的节奏。
    • LRsat me down in a Da Nang café and basically talked me through my first job interviewA more natural, idiomatic way of describing the same event as 6.5's plain 'helped me practise', with 'sat me down' and 'talked me through' both carrying more vivid, spoken-register colour.这是描述同一件事时更自然、更地道的方式,相较于6.5分朴素的“helped me practise”,“sat me down”和“talked me through”都带有更生动的口语色彩。
    • GRAthe relationship can tip into mentoring rather than friendship if you're not carefulA conditional structure (if-clause) used to frame the one downside, which is more grammatically varied than the flat statement ('The only problem is that...') a 6.5 answer would use for the same idea.这里用一个条件结构(if从句)来构建唯一的缺点,这比6.5分答案会用来表达同样想法的平铺直叙陈述(“The only problem is that...”)在语法上更加多样。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer opens with the participial phrase 'Finishing university,' instead of a full subordinate clause, and uses the less common word 'unruffled', closing with a practical evaluative point about needing 'something to offer back'.这篇7.5分的答案以分词短语“Finishing university,”开头,而不是一个完整的从句,并使用了不太常见的词“unruffled”(从容不迫),最后以一个关于需要“有所回馈”的实用评价性观点收尾。

Mainly that they've already made the mistakes you're about to make. Finishing university, I had a friend three years my senior, Quân, sit me down in a Da Nang café and essentially rehearse my first job interview with me, questions I'd never have thought to prepare for included. That's not something you get from someone your own age. Older friends also tend to stay unruffled about things that feel enormous to you at the time, which is oddly steadying. The one catch is that the relationship can tip into mentoring rather than friendship if you're not careful, so it works best when you've got something to offer back.

    • FCThe one catch is that the relationship can tip into mentoring rather than friendship if you're not careful, so it works best when you've got something to offer back. The downside isn't just named but immediately resolved with a practical follow-up clause, giving the answer a sense of closure. A 6.5 answer would state the problem and simply stop, without this extra layer connecting it back to a working solution.这里的缺点不只是被点出来,还立刻用一个实用的后续从句加以解决,让答案有了收束感。6.5分答案会陈述问题然后就此打住,不会有这层把问题和可行解决方案连接起来的额外内容。
    • LRstay unruffled about things that feel enormous to youA less common, more precise adjective than the plain 'calmer' a lower band would choose, giving the sentence a more distinctive register while still sounding natural.这是一个比低分段可能选用的朴素词“calmer”更不常见、更精确的形容词,让句子拥有更独特的语域,同时听起来仍然自然。
    • GRAFinishing university, I had a friend three years my senior, Quân, sit me down in a Da Nang caféA participial phrase ('Finishing university,') opens the sentence instead of a full clause like 'When I was finishing university', a more compact and flexible construction than the plainer bands use for the same information.一个分词短语(“Finishing university,”)作为句子的开头,而不是像“When I was finishing university”这样的完整从句,这是一种比朴素分段用来表达同样信息更紧凑、更灵活的结构。

I think they argue less often, but about bigger things. My parents have a couple they've known for thirty years in Hue, and I've noticed they don't argue about small things anymore, like where to eat. But when something serious comes up, like money, the arguments are quieter but they take longer to solve. So I don't think people get more patient exactly. I think they just learn which arguments are worth having.

    我觉得他们争吵的次数变少了,但争吵的事情变大了。我父母在顺化有一对认识了三十年的朋友夫妇,我注意到他们已经不再为小事争吵了,比如去哪儿吃饭。但当真正严重的事情出现时,比如钱的问题,争吵会变得更安静,但要花更长时间才能解决。所以我不认为人们真的变得更有耐心了。我觉得他们只是学会了哪些争吵才值得去吵。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCSo I don't think people get more patient exactly.A plain restating sentence that repeats the point in slightly different words rather than developing it further. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely fold this correction into the same sentence as the reasoning behind it, instead of stating it as a separate short line.这是一个朴素的重述句,用略微不同的措辞重复了论点,而没有进一步展开。7.0或7.5分答案更可能把这个修正和背后的原因融合进同一个句子,而不是作为单独的一句短话陈述出来。
    • LRthe arguments are quieter but they take longer to solveA plain, literal description using ordinary words like 'quieter' and 'longer'. A higher band would likely replace 'take longer to solve' with something more vivid, such as arguments that 'take months to resolve', which is more specific and natural.这是用“quieter”和“longer”这类普通词汇进行的朴素、字面化描述。更高分段可能会把“take longer to solve”替换成更生动的表达,比如争吵“take months to resolve”(需要几个月才能解决),这更具体也更自然。
    • GRAI've noticed they don't argue about small things anymore, like where to eatA simple main clause with an added example tagged on using 'like'. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to compress the observation and example into a single flowing clause rather than adding the example as an afterthought.这是一个简单的主句,后面用“like”附加了一个例子。7.5分答案更可能把观察和例子压缩进一个流畅的分句,而不是把例子作为事后补充加上去。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with a participial clause ('Watching my parents...') instead of a plain statement, and reframes the conclusion as a natural spoken contrast ('it's not exactly... it's more that...') rather than a flat correction.这篇7.0分的答案以一个分词从句(“Watching my parents...”)开头,而不是一个平铺直叙的陈述,并把结论重新表述为一种自然的口语化对比(“it's not exactly... it's more that...”),而不是一个平淡的修正。

I'd say less often, but about more serious things. Watching my parents with a couple they've known for thirty years in Hue, you notice the small disagreements just get dropped — nobody has the energy to argue about where to eat anymore. But when something real comes up, like money or caring for an ageing parent, the arguments get quieter and heavier, and can take months to work through. So it's not exactly that people become more patient — it's more that they've learned which battles are worth the friendship.

    • FCit's not exactly that people become more patient — it's more that they've learned which battles are worth the friendshipA balanced 'not exactly... it's more that...' construction that reshapes the idea rather than simply restating it, giving the ending a more considered, spoken feel than 6.5's flatter 'I don't think... I think...' pattern.这是一个平衡的“not exactly... it's more that...”结构,重塑了想法,而不只是简单地重述它,让结尾比6.5分那种更平淡的“I don't think... I think...”模式更具深思熟虑的口语感。
    • LRnobody has the energy to argue about where to eat anymoreA natural, idiomatic way of expressing the idea, more vivid than 6.5's plain 'don't argue about small things anymore'. The phrase 'has the energy to' adds a sense of tiredness that the plainer version lacks.这是一种自然、地道的表达方式,比6.5分朴素的“don't argue about small things anymore”更生动。“has the energy to”这个短语增添了一种疲惫感,是更朴素的版本所缺乏的。
    • GRAWatching my parents with a couple they've known for thirty years in Hue, you notice the small disagreements just get droppedA participial phrase ('Watching my parents...') opens the sentence, a more flexible structure than the plain subject-first sentence a 6.5 answer would use to introduce the same observation.一个分词短语(“Watching my parents...”)作为句子的开头,这是一种比6.5分答案用来引出同样观察时使用的、以主语开头的朴素句子更灵活的结构。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the less common word 'weightier' and closes with the compact, slightly aphoristic 'and most, it turns out, simply aren't', a compressed evaluative ending the plainer bands don't attempt.这篇7.5分的答案使用了不太常见的词“weightier”(更沉重的),并以一句简练、略带格言意味的话收尾——“and most, it turns out, simply aren't”——这种压缩式的评价性结尾是朴素分段不会尝试的。

Less often, I'd say, but over noticeably weightier things. Watching my parents with a couple they've known for thirty years in Hue, you notice the small disagreements simply get dropped — nobody has the energy left to fight over where to eat anymore. But when something real surfaces, like money or how to care for an ageing parent, the arguments turn quieter and heavier, sometimes taking months to resolve rather than an evening. So it isn't exactly patience that people gain with age; it's more that they've worked out which battles are worth the friendship, and most, it turns out, simply aren't.

    • FCand most, it turns out, simply aren'tA short, self-contained closing clause that lands as a deliberate final judgement rather than just trailing off. This kind of compact, almost throwaway ending is more sophisticated discourse management than the plainer bands' tendency to end on a full restated sentence.这是一个简短、自成一体的结尾分句,它落地时像是一个刻意的最终判断,而不只是不了了之。这种紧凑、近乎随意抛出的结尾,是比朴素分段惯常以完整重述句收尾更成熟的话语组织方式。
    • LRover noticeably weightier thingsA less common comparative adjective ('weightier') used precisely where a lower band would default to the plain 'bigger' or 'more serious'. It shows a wider, more deliberate vocabulary choice without sounding unnatural.这是一个不太常见的比较级形容词(“weightier”),恰好用在低分段通常会默认使用朴素词“bigger”或“more serious”的位置。这显示出更广泛、更用心的词汇选择,同时又不显得不自然。
    • GRASo it isn't exactly patience that people gain with age; it's more that they've worked out which battles are worth the friendship, and most, it turns out, simply aren't.A semicolon joins two closely related clauses into one flowing sentence, and an inserted phrase ('it turns out') interrupts the final clause for effect — a more flexible, compact construction than the separated short sentences a 6.5 answer would produce for the same content.一个分号把两个关系密切的分句连接成一个流畅的句子,一个插入语(“it turns out”)为了效果打断了最后一个分句——这是比6.5分答案针对同样内容会产生的分离式短句更灵活、更紧凑的结构。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer states one clear reason ('friendship needs regular contact') and supports it with a plain personal example about university friends, adding a second point with 'also' and closing on a simple, direct final sentence.这篇6.5分的答案陈述了一个明确的理由(“friendship needs regular contact”),并用一个关于大学朋友的朴素个人例子来支撑,再用“also”加入第二个论点,最后以一个简单直接的句子收尾。

I think it's because friendship needs regular contact, and life often takes that away. My closest friends at university in Hanoi were people I saw every day, but after we graduated and moved to different cities, we didn't see each other much anymore. A group chat isn't really the same as meeting in person. Also, people change — one friend now has two kids, and another still goes out three nights a week, so they don't have much in common anymore. I don't think it's anyone's fault, really.

    我觉得这是因为友谊需要经常的联系,而生活常常会把这一点夺走。我在河内读大学时最好的朋友们,是我每天都能见到的人,但毕业后我们搬到了不同的城市,就不常见面了。群聊终究和当面见面不一样。而且,人也会变——一个朋友现在有了两个孩子,另一个朋友依然每周有三个晚上出去玩,所以他们之间已经没什么共同话题了。我觉得这真的不是谁的错。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCAlso, people changeA basic connector used to introduce a second, separate reason, typical of how a 6.5 answer organises points — one after another rather than woven together. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely link this idea directly to the first with a more natural transition.这是一个用来引出第二个、独立理由的基础连接词,是6.5分答案组织要点的典型方式——一个接一个地罗列,而不是相互交织。7.0或7.5分答案更可能用更自然的过渡把这个想法和第一个直接联系起来。
    • LRA group chat isn't really the same as meeting in person.A plain, literal comparison using ordinary words. A higher band would likely replace this with a more vivid image, such as a group chat failing to replace the 'daily glue' of seeing someone in person, which captures the same idea more memorably.这是一个用普通词汇进行的朴素、字面化比较。更高分段可能会用更生动的意象来替换,比如群聊无法取代当面见面这种“daily glue”(日常的黏合剂),这以更令人印象深刻的方式捕捉了同样的想法。
    • GRAone friend now has two kids, and another still goes out three nights a week, so they don't have much in common anymoreThree short clauses joined with 'and' and 'so' in a simple chain. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to compress the two contrasting examples into a single parallel structure without needing three separate coordinated clauses.这里用“and”和“so”把三个简短的分句串联成一个简单的链条。7.5分答案更可能把这两个对比的例子压缩进一个单一的平行结构,不需要三个独立的并列分句。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer softens the framing with 'Mainly because...' and 'honestly', and uses the natural collocation 'that daily glue disappeared' to describe what changes after graduation, rather than the plain comparison a 6.5 answer relies on.这篇7.0分的答案用“Mainly because...”和“honestly”软化了表述框架,并用自然的搭配“that daily glue disappeared”来描述毕业后发生的变化,而不是像6.5分答案那样依赖朴素的比较。

Mainly because friendship depends on regular contact, and life has a way of removing that. My closest friends at university in Hanoi were the people I sat next to every day, but once we graduated and scattered to Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and further afield, that daily glue disappeared, and a group chat honestly can't replace it. People also grow in different directions — one friend has two kids now, while another is still going out three nights a week, so they don't have that much to say to each other anymore. I don't think it's really anyone's fault.

    • FCI don't think it's really anyone's fault.A brief closing reflection that sums up the emotional tone of the answer, similar in function to 6.5's ending but placed after a more developed explanation, giving the whole response a slightly more considered shape.这是一个简短的结尾反思,总结了答案的情感基调,功能上与6.5分的结尾相似,但被放在了一段更成熟的解释之后,让整个答案的形态显得更加深思熟虑。
    • LRthat daily glue disappearedA natural, moderately vivid collocation used metaphorically to describe lost regular contact, a step up from 6.5's literal 'isn't really the same as meeting in person'. It's accessible but noticeably more figurative.这是一个自然、中等生动程度的搭配,被隐喻性地用来描述失去的日常联系,比6.5分字面化的“isn't really the same as meeting in person”更进一步。它易于理解,但明显更具比喻色彩。
    • GRAonce we graduated and scattered to Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and further afield, that daily glue disappeared, and a group chat honestly can't replace itA longer sentence built around a once-clause followed by two coordinated results, more structurally developed than the short, separate sentences of 6.5, though still relying on fairly standard coordination rather than compression.这是一个较长的句子,围绕一个once从句展开,后面跟着两个并列的结果,比6.5分那种简短独立的句子在结构上更为成熟,不过仍然依赖于相当标准的并列结构,而不是压缩手法。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the idiom 'has a habit of' and the less common word 'sturdiest', closing with a compact generalisation ('most friendships are built around a shared situation, and once that ends, only the sturdiest survive') rather than a simple personal statement.这篇7.5分的答案使用了习语“has a habit of”(总习惯于)和不太常见的词“sturdiest”(最坚韧的),并以一句简练的概括性论断收尾(“most friendships are built around a shared situation, and once that ends, only the sturdiest survive”),而不是一个简单的个人陈述。

Mainly because friendship runs on regular contact, and life has a habit of taking that away. My closest friends at university in Hanoi were simply the people I sat beside every day; once we graduated and scattered to Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and further afield, that daily glue vanished, and a group chat can't really stand in for it. People also drift in different directions — one friend now has two kids, another is still out three nights a week — and there's less and less common ground left to talk about. None of it is really anyone's fault, I think; most friendships are built around a shared situation, and once that ends, only the sturdiest survive.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCNone of it is really anyone's fault, I think; most friendships are built around a shared situation, and once that ends, only the sturdiest survive. The closing reflection is extended into a small general rule rather than a single short sentence, showing the speaker drawing a wider conclusion from personal experience — a more ambitious move than the plainer bands' habit of simply restating the opinion.这里的结尾反思被延展成了一条小小的普遍规则,而不只是一句简短的话,这体现出说话者从个人经历中提炼出更广泛结论的能力——这比朴素分段习惯性地简单重述观点更有野心。
    • LRone friend now has two kids, another is still out three nights a week — and there's less and less common ground leftA vivid, natural phrase ('less and less common ground') replacing the plainer 'they don't have much in common anymore' a lower band would use, adding a slightly more idiomatic feel.这是一个生动、自然的表达(“less and less common ground”),替代了低分段可能使用的更朴素说法“they don't have much in common anymore”,增添了一丝更地道的语感。
    • GRAMy closest friends at university in Hanoi were simply the people I sat beside every day; once we graduated and scattered to Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and further afield, that daily glue vanishedA semicolon links two closely related clauses into one flowing sentence instead of splitting them, a more compact and flexible construction than the separate sentences a 6.5 answer would use for the same content.一个分号把两个关系密切的分句连接成一个流畅的句子,而不是把它们分开,这是比6.5分答案针对同样内容会使用的独立句子更紧凑、更灵活的结构。

I think friendship is very important for well-being, maybe more than people realise. When I first moved to Da Nang, I had a good job and a nice flat, but no friends, and I felt sad without really knowing why. After I joined a running group at My Khe Beach, nothing else changed, but I felt much happier. I've also read that being lonely can be as bad for your health as smoking. So I think it's not about how many friends you have, but how close they are.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI've also read thatA plain way of introducing outside evidence, tacked on after the personal story with 'also'. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely present the same fact more fluently, folding it into the flow of the argument rather than flagging it as a separate added point.这是一种朴素的方式来引入外部证据,用“also”附加在个人故事之后。7.0或7.5分答案更可能更流畅地呈现同样的事实,把它融入论证的流程,而不是作为一个单独附加的要点标出来。
    • LRI felt sad without really knowing whyA plain, direct description of an emotional state. A higher band would likely choose a more precise phrase like being 'quietly miserable in a way I couldn't explain', which captures the same feeling with more nuance.这是对情绪状态的一种朴素、直接的描述。更高分段可能会选择更精确的表达,比如“quietly miserable in a way I couldn't explain”(一种说不清楚的、默默的悲伤),这以更细腻的方式捕捉了同样的感受。
    • GRAI had a good job and a nice flat, but no friends, and I felt sad without really knowing whyA chain of short clauses joined with 'but' and 'and', which is grammatically safe but repetitive. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to vary the connectors and compress the list into a tighter structure.这是一串用“but”和“and”连接的短分句,语法安全但略显重复。7.5分答案更可能变换连接词,把这一系列内容压缩进一个更紧凑的结构。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with the emphatic 'Enormously, honestly' and adds the reflective aside 'probably more than most of us like to admit', while the once-clause about the running group builds a more natural, moderately complex sentence than a flat chronological retelling.这篇7.0分的答案以强调性的“Enormously, honestly”开头,并加入了反思性插入语“probably more than most of us like to admit”,同时关于跑步小组的once从句构建了一个比平铺直叙的时间顺序叙述更自然、复杂度适中的句子。

Enormously, honestly — probably more than most of us like to admit. In my first few months in Da Nang, I had a good job and a nice flat but no friends yet, and I was quietly miserable in a way I couldn't really explain. Once I joined a small running group on My Khe Beach, nothing else in my life changed, but everything somehow felt lighter. There's actual research behind this too, apparently loneliness affects health about as much as smoking does. I'd just add that it's the quality that counts, not the number of friends you have.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCprobably more than most of us like to admitA reflective aside inserted right into the opening sentence, showing the speaker commenting on the claim as they make it. This kind of immediate self-aware reflection is typical of 7.0, whereas a 6.5 answer would more likely state the opinion plainly and add any reflection, if at all, as a separate later sentence.这是一个直接插入开场句中的反思性插入语,显示出说话者在提出论断的同时对其加以评论。这种即时的自我觉察式反思是7.0分的典型特征,而6.5分答案更可能平铺直叙地陈述观点,即使有反思,也会作为一个单独的后续句子加上去。
    • LRquietly miserable in a way I couldn't really explainA more precise, natural phrase than 6.5's plain 'felt sad without really knowing why', with 'quietly miserable' capturing a specific shade of feeling rather than a general one.这是一个比6.5分朴素的“felt sad without really knowing why”更精确、更自然的表达,“quietly miserable”捕捉到了一种具体的情绪色调,而不是笼统的感受。
    • GRAOnce I joined a small running group on My Khe Beach, nothing else in my life changed, but everything somehow felt lighterA once-clause frames the turning point before the main contrast is introduced with 'but', a more deliberately shaped sentence than the plain after-clause a 6.5 answer uses for the same event.一个once从句在用“but”引出主要对比之前,先框定了转折点,这是一个比6.5分答案用来表达同一事件的朴素after从句更精心构造的句子。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses the idiom 'put my finger on' and the punchy collocation 'quality trumps quantity', closing on a vivid, slightly witty contrast between calling someone at midnight and people who 'simply like your photos'.这篇7.5分的答案使用了习语“put my finger on”(说清楚、指明),以及有力的搭配“quality trumps quantity”(质量胜过数量),并以一个生动、略带机智的对比结尾——半夜打电话求助的人和只会“给照片点赞”的人。

Enormously — probably more than most of us openly admit. In my first few months in Da Nang I had a decent job and a nice flat but no friends yet, and I was quietly miserable in a way I couldn't quite put my finger on. Joining a small running group on My Khe Beach changed nothing else about my life, yet everything felt lighter almost overnight. There's solid research behind this too; loneliness, apparently, does about as much damage to health as smoking. I'd only add that quality trumps quantity here — two people you'd call at midnight do more for your well-being than two hundred who simply like your photos.

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCI'd only add that quality trumps quantity here — two people you'd call at midnight do more for your well-being than two hundred who simply like your photos. The closing point isn't just stated but illustrated with a vivid contrast, giving the answer a memorable final image. A 6.5 answer ends on the same idea but as a flat, abstract statement ('it's not about how many friends you have, but how close they are'), without this concrete illustration.结尾的观点不只是被陈述出来,还用一个生动的对比加以说明,让答案有了一个令人印象深刻的收尾画面。6.5分答案以同样的想法结尾,但只是一个平淡、抽象的陈述(“it's not about how many friends you have, but how close they are”),没有这种具体的例证。
    • LRcouldn't quite put my finger onAn idiomatic expression used naturally in place of the plainer 'couldn't really explain' a lower band would use, adding colour without sounding forced.这是一个使用得自然的习语表达,取代了低分段可能使用的更朴素说法“couldn't really explain”,增添了色彩,同时又不显得刻意。
    • GRAJoining a small running group on My Khe Beach changed nothing else about my life, yet everything felt lighter almost overnight.A gerund phrase ('Joining a small running group...') opens the sentence as the grammatical subject, a more compact and flexible construction than the plain 'Once I joined...' clause a lower band would use for the same idea.一个动名词短语(“Joining a small running group...”)作为句子的语法主语开头,这是一种比低分段针对同样想法会使用的朴素“Once I joined...”从句更紧凑、更灵活的结构。

I don't think friendship should be above other relationships, but it is just as important. Family gives you support you didn't choose, but friends are people who choose to be with you, which is special in a different way. For example, my grandmother's children visit her at the weekend, but it's her friends from the market who see her every day and notice if she's unwell. So I don't think we should rank relationships — different ones do different things for us.

    我不认为友谊应该凌驾于其他关系之上,但它同样重要。家人给你的是你没有选择过的支持,而朋友是选择和你在一起的人,这以一种不同的方式而显得特别。比如说,我祖母的孩子们周末会来看她,但每天来看她、注意到她身体不舒服的,是她那些在市场上认识的朋友。所以我不认为我们应该给各种关系排名——不同的关系对我们发挥着不同的作用。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCFor example, my grandmother's children visit her at the weekend, but it's her friends from the market who see her every dayA plain, labelled example introduced with 'For example', a very direct way of moving from claim to evidence. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely fold the example straight into the argument without this explicit signpost.这是一个用“For example”引出的朴素、明确标注的例子,是一种从论断过渡到证据的非常直接的方式。7.0或7.5分答案更可能把例子直接融入论证,而不需要这种明确的路标式提示。
    • LRwhich is special in a different wayA vague, general phrase that names the idea without much precision. A higher band would likely be more specific about what exactly makes the relationship valuable, using a word like 'purely' or 'genuinely' attached to a more exact claim.这是一个模糊、笼统的短语,点出了想法但不够精确。更高分段可能会更具体地说明这段关系究竟为什么有价值,使用像“purely”或“genuinely”这样的词,配合更精确的论断。
    • GRAFamily gives you support you didn't choose, but friends are people who choose to be with youA simple contrast built with 'but' linking two short independent clauses. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to use a semicolon or 'whereas' to fuse the contrast into a single, more compact sentence.这是一个用“but”连接两个简短独立分句所构建的简单对比。7.5分答案更可能使用分号或“whereas”,把这个对比融合进一个单一、更紧凑的句子。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer reframes the question with the crisp 'Not above, I'd say, but alongside' and uses 'whereas' instead of 'but' to link family and friendship in a single sentence, adding the reflective aside 'That said, ranking relationships at all feels like the wrong way to think about it'.这篇7.0分的答案用简练的“Not above, I'd say, but alongside”重新框定了问题,并用“whereas”代替“but”,在一个句子里把家庭和友谊连接起来,还加入了反思性插入语“That said, ranking relationships at all feels like the wrong way to think about it”。

Not above, I'd say, but alongside. Family gives you a safety net you didn't choose, whereas friendship is really the one relationship that exists purely because both people want it to, which makes it valuable in its own way. My grandmother in Hue is a good example — her children visit at weekends, but it's her three friends from the market who see her every single morning and notice when she's unwell. That said, ranking relationships at all feels like the wrong way to think about it, since different ones seem to do different jobs in a person's life.

    • FCThat said, ranking relationships at all feels like the wrong way to think about itA natural spoken pivot that steps back from the question itself, questioning its framing rather than just answering it. This kind of reflective move is more developed than 6.5's straightforward closing statement about not ranking relationships.这是一个自然的口语化转折,从问题本身后退一步,质疑问题的框架,而不只是回答它。这种反思性的处理手法比6.5分那种关于不该给关系排名的直白结语更为成熟。
    • LRa safety net you didn't chooseA natural, moderately vivid collocation replacing the plainer 'support you didn't choose' a 6.5 answer would use, giving the abstract idea of family a more concrete image.这是一个自然、中等生动的搭配,取代了6.5分答案会使用的更朴素说法“support you didn't choose”,为家庭这个抽象概念赋予了更具体的形象。
    • GRAFamily gives you a safety net you didn't choose, whereas friendship is really the one relationship that exists purely because both people want it toUses 'whereas' to build a single balanced sentence out of the contrast, rather than the repeated 'but' structure a 6.5 answer relies on for the same idea.使用“whereas”把这个对比构建成一个平衡的单句,而不是像6.5分答案针对同样想法所依赖的反复使用“but”的结构。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses semicolons to fuse contrasting clauses ('Family hands you a safety net you never chose; friendship, by contrast...') and closes with the vivid collocation 'propped up entirely on one type', ending on the evaluative word 'fragile'.这篇7.5分的答案用分号融合了对比的分句(“Family hands you a safety net you never chose; friendship, by contrast...”),并以生动的搭配“propped up entirely on one type”(完全依赖单一类型)结尾,最后落在评价性的词“fragile”(脆弱)上。

Not above, I'd say, but alongside. Family hands you a safety net you never chose; friendship, by contrast, is the one relationship that exists purely because both people want it to, and there's something worth valuing in that alone. My grandmother in Hue makes the point well — her children visit at weekends, yet it's her three friends from the market who drop by every single morning and notice the moment she's unwell. Ranking relationships at all, though, feels like the wrong instinct; different ones simply do different jobs, and a life propped up entirely on one type, whichever it is, tends to end up fragile.

    • LRa life propped up entirely on one type, whichever it is, tends to end up fragileA vivid, slightly less common collocation ('propped up') used metaphorically, well beyond the plain 'different ones do different things for us' a lower band would use to close the same point.这是一个生动、稍微不常见的搭配(“propped up”),以隐喻的方式使用,远超低分段用来收尾同一观点时会使用的朴素说法“different ones do different things for us”。
    • GRAFamily hands you a safety net you never chose; friendship, by contrast, is the one relationship that exists purely because both people want it toA semicolon fuses two independent clauses into one flowing sentence, with 'by contrast' doing the linking work — a more compact structure than the repeated 'but'-joined clauses a 6.5 answer would use.一个分号把两个独立分句融合成一个流畅的句子,“by contrast”承担了连接的功能——这是一种比6.5分答案会使用的反复用“but”连接的分句更紧凑的结构。

    6.5 分

The 6.5 answer states its main idea plainly and builds a simple if-clause around the apartment example, listing two benefits with 'and' before adding one plain downside with 'but'.这篇6.5分的答案平铺直叙地陈述了主要想法,并围绕公寓的例子构建了一个简单的if从句,用“and”列举了两个好处,再用“but”加上一个朴素的缺点。

I think a lot of problems would become smaller. In my apartment building, there are about two hundred households, but I only know four of them by name. If people knew each other better, older residents might not need to pay someone to check on them, and parents could help each other with childcare. Small arguments could also be solved by talking, instead of going to the management office. But there is a downside too — close communities can sometimes be unfriendly to outsiders.

    我认为很多问题都会变小。在我住的公寓楼里,大约有两百户人家,但我只叫得出其中四户的名字。如果大家彼此更了解,年长的住户或许就不需要花钱请人来照看他们,父母们也可以互相帮忙照顾孩子。一些小争执也可以通过聊聊天就解决,而不是跑去物业办公室。但这也有一个缺点——关系紧密的社区有时候会对外来者不太友好。

    为什么是这个分数

    • FCBut there is a downside tooA plain, direct way of signalling the shift to a counterpoint. A 7.0 or 7.5 answer would more likely use a more natural phrase like 'The flip side is' to make the same turn feel less mechanical.这是一种朴素、直接的方式来示意转向反面观点。7.0或7.5分答案更可能使用更自然的表达,比如“The flip side is”,让同样的转折显得不那么机械。
    • LRclose communities can sometimes be unfriendly to outsidersA plain, general description using ordinary words like 'unfriendly'. A higher band would likely choose more specific, less common words such as 'suspicious of outsiders' or 'insular', which describe the same idea with sharper precision.这是用“unfriendly”这类普通词汇进行的朴素、笼统的描述。更高分段可能会选择更具体、不那么常见的词,比如“suspicious of outsiders”(对外来者心存戒备)或“insular”(封闭的),这些词能更精确地描述同样的想法。
    • GRAIf people knew each other better, older residents might not need to pay someone to check on them, and parents could help each other with childcareA single if-clause followed by two results joined with 'and', a safe and clear but fairly basic structure. A 7.5 answer would be more likely to use a colon to introduce a tighter list of consequences instead.一个单独的if从句后面跟着用“and”连接的两个结果,这是一种安全、清晰但相当基础的结构。7.5分答案更可能改用冒号来引出一个更紧凑的后果清单。
    7.0 分

The 7.0 answer opens with the reflective 'I suspect' and the natural collocation 'pay institutions to solve', then adds the mild qualifier 'That said, tight-knit communities can also turn inward' instead of the flatter 'But there is a downside too' a 6.5 answer would use.这篇7.0分的答案以反思性的“I suspect”和自然的搭配“pay institutions to solve”开头,然后加入了温和的限定语“That said, tight-knit communities can also turn inward”,而不是像6.5分答案那样使用更平淡的“But there is a downside too”。

I suspect quite a few problems we currently pay institutions to solve would shrink. Take my apartment tower in Da Nang — two hundred households, and I know maybe four of them by name. If those bonds were stronger, elderly residents wouldn't need a paid service checking on them, parents could share childcare more easily, and small disputes might get settled over coffee rather than through the management office. Mental health services would probably feel less stretched too. That said, tight-knit communities can also turn inward, becoming suspicious of outsiders and harder on people who don't quite fit.

    • FCThat said, tight-knit communities can also turn inwardA natural spoken qualifier that introduces the downside more smoothly than 6.5's blunt 'But there is a downside too', showing the speaker weighing both sides of the idea rather than just listing them.这是一个自然的口语化限定语,比6.5分直白的“But there is a downside too”更顺畅地引出了缺点,体现出说话者在权衡这个想法的两面,而不只是简单地罗列出来。
    • LRproblems we currently pay institutions to solve would shrinkA more natural, precise collocation than 6.5's plain 'a lot of problems would become smaller', with 'pay institutions to solve' giving a concrete economic angle to an otherwise abstract idea.这是一个比6.5分朴素的“a lot of problems would become smaller”更自然、更精确的搭配,“pay institutions to solve”为一个原本抽象的想法赋予了具体的经济学视角。
    • GRAIf those bonds were stronger, elderly residents wouldn't need a paid service checking on them, parents could share childcare more easily, and small disputes might get settled over coffee rather than through the management officeA single if-clause governs three parallel results in a row, a more ambitious list structure than the two-item 'and'-joined pair a 6.5 answer manages for the same content.一个单独的if从句统领了三个并列的结果,这是一种比6.5分答案针对同样内容所能构建的两项“and”连接结构更有野心的清单结构。
    7.5 分

The 7.5 answer uses a colon to introduce the apartment example and a gerund-led list ('elderly residents no longer needing...', 'parents sharing...') instead of finite clauses, closing on the compact antithesis 'warmer, but not necessarily fairer'.这篇7.5分的答案用冒号引出公寓的例子,并用动名词引导的清单(“elderly residents no longer needing...”、“parents sharing...”)代替限定分句,最后以简练的对立结语“warmer, but not necessarily fairer”收尾。

I suspect a fair number of problems we currently pay institutions to solve would simply shrink. Take my own apartment tower in Da Nang: two hundred households, of which I could name maybe four. Stronger bonds would mean elderly residents no longer needing a paid service to check on them, parents sharing childcare informally, and petty disputes settled over coffee rather than routed through the management office. Mental health services would likely feel less stretched, too. The flip side is that tight-knit communities can just as easily turn insular, wary of outsiders and unforgiving toward anyone who doesn't quite fit — so stronger bonds would make society warmer, but not necessarily fairer.

    • FCso stronger bonds would make society warmer, but not necessarily fairerA tightly balanced closing antithesis that sums up the whole answer's tension in one short clause, rather than the more general closing statement a 6.5 answer would offer ('close communities can sometimes be unfriendly to outsiders').这是一个高度平衡的结尾对立句,用一个简短的分句总结了整篇答案的张力,而不是像6.5分答案那样提供一个更笼统的结语(“close communities can sometimes be unfriendly to outsiders”)。
    • LRtight-knit communities can just as easily turn insular, wary of outsiders and unforgiving toward anyone who doesn't quite fitLess common, more precise words ('insular', 'unforgiving') replace the plain 'unfriendly to outsiders' a lower band would use, giving the downside sharper, more specific edges.不太常见、更精确的词(“insular”、“unforgiving”)取代了低分段可能使用的朴素说法“unfriendly to outsiders”,让这个缺点有了更犀利、更具体的边界。
    • GRAStronger bonds would mean elderly residents no longer needing a paid service to check on them, parents sharing childcare informally, and petty disputes settled over coffeeA gerund-based parallel list ('needing...', 'sharing...', 'settled...') compresses three consequences into one flowing sentence without repeating a full clause structure each time, more compact than the if-clause-plus-modals a 6.5 or 7.0 answer would use.一个基于动名词的平行清单(“needing...”、“sharing...”、“settled...”)把三个后果压缩进一个流畅的句子,而不需要每次都重复完整的分句结构,这比6.5或7.0分答案会使用的“if从句+情态动词”结构更紧凑。
